In every map, irrespective of its theme, objects are represented at a reduced scale. Map contents do not decrease proportionally to the reduction of the map size. Usually an increasing density of the map contents occurs at smaller scales. That is where the generalization plays an important role. Generalization is the process of creating a legible map at a given scale from a more detailed geographical dataset. It is done in such a manner that the character or essence of the original features is retained at successively smaller scales. Though the purposes and benefits of generalization are manifold it is indeed a complex decision-making process which must be intelligently steered by goals and rules from the geographical application domain such that the generalized representation conveys knowledge consistent with the reality. In recent past, lot of work has been done in 2D generalization (Beard, 1991; Weibel, 1995; Bealla, 1995; Ruas and Plazanet, 1996; Sarjakoski and Kilpeläinen, 1999) which defines a set of operations to be performed with the goal to achieve the similar results to those from manual generalization. But 3D generalization is altogether perceived differently. A given 3D urban area mostly consists of roads and buildings. These buildings are of different styles and features. Further the city area may be viewed from different angles and at different heights. So generalization in general and aggregation in particular must deal with all these issues. The shapes of geological boundaries such as contacts and faults play a crucial role in the transportation, deposition and preservation of metals in magmatic and hydrothermal systems. Analyzing the shapes of geological boundaries, in particular those associated with mineralization, is an important step in 3D mineral prospectivity modeling. However, existing methods of shape analysis are limited in the adaptation of various shapes, scales and topologies of geological boundaries. This paper presents a general method of shape analysis based on mathematical morphology (MM), which is a generalization of the original MM method for shape analysis. The generalization extends the applicability of the original MM method from closed surfaces to general surfaces, while inheriting the real 3D and multi-scale analysis capabilities of the original method. This is achieved by regarding MM operations on 3D sphere structural elements as their equivalent operations, and redefining the operations to general surfaces. The generalized MM method enables us to handle complex 3D shapes such as overturned and/or recumbent geological boundaries as well as incomplete shapes due to weathering processes and data unavailability. The proposed method was applied to analyze the shape of an intrusive contact in the Fenghuangshan Cu ore field, Eastern China, whose shape was in the form of a non-closed surface. This analysis revealed a stronger spatial association between the large concave parts of the contact zone and the mineralization. Due to its enhanced adaptability to different shapes, the generalized MM method, compared with the original MM method, allows us to capture shape features that are more plausible for the geological setting.

自动制图综合的研究长期以来未能取得突破性进展,原因之一是人们对制图综合的知识处理的深度不够。本文探讨在GIS环境下实现智能化制图综合的方法。方法要点是:①采用知识推理+数学模型的方法,即将基于专家知识的智能化推理与数学模型处理结合起来,用知识推理引导和操纵数学模型处理,以期达到较理想的结果;②在专家知识规则中贯穿面向地理特征的思想,即包括面向地理要素、面向地物对象-类,面向特殊地理区域等方面的知识法则。本文首先阐述在GIS环境下实现智能化制图综合功能的策略,其次描述知识推理控制下的数学模型操作流程,以及制图综合专家知识库的组织形式;最后阐述各种面向地理特征的制图综合知识规则。  相似文献

Automated cartographic generalization has been an intensive research topic in cartography for decades. Some problems associated with this topic could be resolved to a certain extent using fractal analysis and fractal dimension. This paper investigates the fundamental theories and operational methods of generalization. Among others, methods of calculating fractal dimensions of curves and even complicated 3-dimensional geographic objects are explained. Fractal dimensions can be used as an objective criterion for both scaling the natural geographic objects and economical computer storage. More important is that the generalization algorithms based on fractal dimensions can be performed automatically.  相似文献

As a basic and significant operator in map generalization, polyline simplification needs to work across scales. Perkal’s ε-circle rolling approach, in which a circle with diameter ε is rolled on both sides of the polyline so that the small bend features can be detected and removed, is considered as one of the few scale-driven solutions. However, the envelope computation, which is a key part of this method, has been difficult to implement. Here, we present a computational method that implements Perkal’s proposal. To simulate the effects of a rolling circle, Delaunay triangulation is used to detect bend features and further to construct the envelope structure around a polyline. Then, different connection methods within the enveloping area are provided to output the abstracted result, and a strategy to determine the best connection method is explored. Experiments with real land-use polygon data are implemented, and comparison with other algorithms is discussed. In addition to the scale-specificity inherited from Perkal’s proposal, the results show that the proposed algorithm can preserve the main shape of the polyline and meet the area-maintaining constraint during large-scale change. This algorithm is also free from self-intersection.  相似文献

This paper discusses extensions of GAP‐trees from three aspects and its implementation based on non‐topological structure in order to enhance access to large vector data sets. First of all, we apply cartographic generalization rules to build a generalization procedure of the GAP‐tree, which makes coarse representations more consistent with human cognition. Second, we replace the three‐dimensional (pseudo‐) Reactive‐tree index with a 2D R‐tree index and a B‐tree index to improve the system efficiency. Finally, we compress a binary GAP‐tree into multi‐way GAP‐trees in order to reduce data redundancy. The shallower multi‐way GAP‐trees not only eliminate redundant data but also accelerate the system's response time. The extensions have been successfully implemented in PostgreSQL. A test of Beijing's land‐use data at the 1:10 000 scale demonstrates that the extended GAP‐trees are efficient, compact, and easy to implement.  相似文献

毛乌素沙地砒砂岩与沙复配农田的固沙效应及其微观机理   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3  
砒砂岩与沙复配成土及其工程化核心技术的提出与应用,为毛乌素沙地合理利用土地资源、科学推进生态建设提供了新的思路与技术支撑。前期研究对利用层面的技术问题给予了较多关注并取得显著进展,而在潜在风险层面特别是关于复配土壤的固沙效应及其微观机理的探索则相对薄弱。基于集沙仪、扫描电镜及激光粒度仪,结合野外定位试验和室内仪器观测,对毛乌素典型原状沙地及复配农田的输沙特征差异及其固沙微观机理进行探索。结果表明:(1)观测周期内,原状沙地输沙总量为4 951 g,远高于复配农田2 436 g的输沙总量,原状沙地更易受风蚀,而复配农田土壤起沙风速大、输沙量较小,具有明显的固沙效应;(2)扫描电镜图像显示,原状沙地土粒(沙粒)粗骨化、无粘结,而耕种两年的复配农田土壤中已出现团聚体;(3)激光粒度仪分析显示,原状沙地的粉、黏粒含量仅为2.74%,而复配农田这一比例增至15.12%;(4)复配土防风固沙效应的形成与粉粒和黏粒含量及土壤结构等紧密相关。鉴于复配农田输沙固沙能力的动态差异性和风力敏感性,进一步实施复配成土造田工程时,宜在复配农田主导风向的上风向区域及成片农田内适当布设具有防风功能的适生草类或灌木条带。  相似文献

如何自动获得居民地矢量信息是遥感和地理信息系统领域研究的热点问题。以南京市江宁区为研究区域,基于光谱特征分析,建立决策树模型进行居民地信息的自动提取。重点研究如何将已提取的居民地图斑进行形态综合,得到满足地理信息系统数据建库与更新、遥感制图等的可视化图形数据,为灾害评估、城镇扩展和环境变化研究等提供必要的基础信息。最后,给出文章方法的实验结果并做出讨论。  相似文献

Hybrid terrain models combine large regular data sets and high-resolution irregular meshes [triangulated irregular network (TIN)] for topographically and morphologically complex terrain features such as man-made microstructures or cliffs. In this paper, a new method to generate and visualize this kind of 3D hybrid terrain models is presented. This method can integrate geographic data sets from multiple sources without a remeshing process to combine the heterogeneous data of the different models. At the same time, the original data sets are preserved without modification, and, thus, TIN meshes can be easily edited and replaced, among other features. Specifically, our approach is based on the utilization of the external edges of convexified TINs as the fundamental primitive to tessellate the space between both types of meshes. Our proposal is eminently parallel, requires only a minimal preprocessing phase, and minimizes the storage requirements when compared with the previous proposals.  相似文献

地图综合理论与方法的研究重点之一,是依据上下文环境进行结构化选取和化简。水系作为地图的基本要素之一,在地图综合中必须依据水系的类型和河网密度进行化简,以保持河网密度差异等宏观特征。本文提出了一种基于支流数量差异的选取指标分配与河系简化方法,将选取数量在河流的各个子流域上按比例分配并递归分配到下一层次的子流域,在各个子流域依据长度和间距选取河流,从而实现顾及密度差异的结构化选取。在软件开发基础上进行了选取试验,并对照手工综合的河系图进行了分析。结果表明,基于支流数量差异的比例选取方法切实可行,能够有效地保持树状河系的特点和河网密度的区域差异。  相似文献

This paper focuses on a topic barely considered in the literature: how to improve the accuracy of a given Digital Elevation Model (DEM) irrespective of its lineage by identifying its most suspicious values (also denoted here as outliers). Methods tailored to a specific procedure and source (contour maps, remote sensing image, etc.) exist but they are not valid for other cases. This is a problem for both the producer and end user. The results of a comparison of two methods using six DEMs intended to be representative of different landscapes are reported here. Both methods have been applied to each DEM, producing a number of height candidates to be analysed. Assuming that all candidates are wrong, their elevations have been blindly replaced by interpolated heights, simulating the behaviour of the inexperienced user. The improved (or degraded) DEMs are then compared against the ground truth, and updated accuracy figures are calculated. The RMSE can diminish by 2 to 8% of the original value by changing less than 1% of the elevations in the dataset.  相似文献

In map generalization, the displacement operation attempts to resolve proximity conflicts to guarantee map legibility. Owing to the limited representation space, conflicts may occur between both the same and different features under different contexts. A successful displacement should settle multiple conflicts, suppress the generation of secondary conflicts after moving some objects, and preserve the distribution patterns. The effect of displacement can be understood as a force that pushes related objects away with properties of propagation and distance decay. This study borrows the idea of vector fields from physics discipline and establishes a vector field model to handle the displacement of multiple conflicts in building generalization. A scalar field is first constructed based on a Delaunay triangulation skeleton to partition the buildings being examined (e.g., a street block). Then, we build a vector field to conduct displacement measurements through the detection of conflicts from multiple sources. The direction and magnitude of the displacement force are computed based on an iso-line model of vector field. The experiment shows that this global method can settle multiple conflicts and preserve the spatial relations and important building patterns.  相似文献

Quarries and roadcuts are time-honored stopping points on geoscience field trips. Artificial exposures are good field sites for learning because of their accessibility, and the potential range of features they present for first-hand examination. On undergraduate-level field excursions, site discussions typically center on stratigraphic unit identification, correlation, depositional environments, paleontology, facies relationships, lithology, mineralogy, and/or structural features. It is rare (in my experience) for geomorphologic features and relationships to be the focus of attention, or even to receive more than passing mention. Yet, roadcuts and quarries offer much potential for learning about basic landform features, forms, and processes. This paper, with illustrated examples, discusses five general characteristics, present in artificial exposures, that offer opportunities for learning about geomorphology. (1) Roadcuts and quarries expose cross sections, not only of structure, but also of landforms, illustrating relationships between subsurface geology and the surface landscape. (2) The faces of roadcuts and quarries are anthropomorphic landforms of relatively well-known age and original form, two qualities that provide opportunities for discussing erosional modification over time. (3) These sites are generally nodes of intense geomorphic activity, useful for directly observing landform processes and their effects. The intensity of degradational and depositional processes at artificial exposures often produces (4) landform miniatures, and (5) landform analogs, both providing instructional examples or illustrations of geomorphic features. In addition to their utility to other geoscience sub-disciplines, roadcuts and quarries also offer important opportunities for students to learn about basic geomorphologic concepts, processes, and forms.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Schematic maps are popular for the representation of transport networks. Many automated methods have been developed to generate such maps. In these methods, optimization techniques work with various sets of constraints. Most of these constraints govern geometric properties of individual features. A few constraints address relationships among features, but none explicitly deal with the main structure of an entire network. We believe that preservation of main structure is the most important and preservation of relative relations is helpful. This is because human perception follows a global-to-local process. These constraints have recently been formed into four general principles, with two for global structure and two for relativity of features. This study develops an automated method by integrating these principles into the mixed-integer programming (MIP) framework. Experimental evaluations have been conducted with two sets of real-world transit networks. In comparison to the existing method, the proposed method has smaller fractal dimensions, better computational performance and higher scores in terms of clarity, recognition of major lines, visual simplicity and satisfaction. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed method can generate schematic maps with improved clarity and aesthetics. The idea in this study is also helpful for the design of other visual representations.  相似文献

本文以我国典型快速城市化地区深圳市为例,综合使用GIS技术、道路网络结构特征分析、景观格局分析和相关分析方法研究其道路网络结构特征的成因及其景观生态效应。在确定了24个独立的空间研究单元的基础上,重点分析了深圳市道路网络结构特征的相关关系、城市化水平差异对道路网络结构特征的影响和道路格局特征的景观整体及重要组分的格局效应。结果表明:城市建设用地密度的增加导致交通用地密度、节点和廊道储量增加,道路网络结构复杂程度、格局指数降低;资源条件、环境和生态保护约束是导致道路网络复杂性增加、结构发育水平下降、网络格局指数不断降低的主要原因;深圳市的道路网络格局特征对全市景观整体格局没有表现显著的约束性影响,对建设用地显示出环境保护约束和空间吸引两个方面的综合效应,对于林地则表现出生态保护约束、空间排斥和物理分割三个方面的综合效应。  相似文献

Two general approaches have been applied to understanding the fractal structure of fluvial topography: (1) deterministic, process-based models, and (2) stochastic partial differential equations (PDE). Deterministic models reproduce the fractal behavior of fluvial topography but have two limitations: they often underestimate the amount of lateral valley and ridge migration that occurs in nature, and the complexity has made it difficult to identify the precise origin of fractal behavior in fluvial landscapes. The simplicity of stochastic PDE models has made them useful for investigating fractal behavior, but they incorrectly suggest that fractal behavior is only possible with stochastic forcing. In this paper I investigate whether simplified, deterministic PDE models of landform evolution also exhibit fractal behavior and other features of complexity (i.e. deterministic chaos). These models are based on the KPZ equation, well known in the physics literature. This equation combines diffusion (i.e. hillslope processes) and nonlinear advection (i.e. bedrock or alluvial channel incision). Two models are considered: (1) a deterministic model with uniform erodibility and random initial topography, and (2) a deterministic model with random erodibility and uniform initial topography. Results illustrate that both of these deterministic models exhibit fractal behavior and deterministic chaos. In this context, chaotic behavior means that valley and ridge migration and nonlinear amplification of small perturbations in these models prevent an ideal steady state landscape from ever developing in the large-system limit. These results suggest that fractal structure and deterministic chaos are intrinsic features of the evolution of fluvial landforms, and that these features result from an inverse cascade of energy from small to large wavelengths in drainage basins. This inverse cascade differs from the direct cascade of three-dimensional turbulence in which energy flows from large to small wavelengths.  相似文献

地图综合是当前国际GIS和制图学领域的一个难题。化简是地图综合的一个基本操作算子,线要素是地图综合操作的主要对象,该文主要研究地图线要素的化简问题。首先,从算法的适用范围、阈值设置等方面分析了现有算法的优点,重点阐述了一种常用的弧比弦算法,并指出了其在化简过程中存在的不足。然后,基于地图曲线的空间认知特征,提出了一种改进弧比弦算法。该算法能够更好地保持曲线的特征点和曲线的几何形态,避免阈值的设置问题。在算法评价上,采用3种定量评价指标,即:偏移平均值、偏移量中值和面积变形值,对改进的弧比弦算法与现有经典算法进行了比较分析。最后,通过算例分析验证了该算法的可行性、有效性和健壮性。  相似文献
