An analysis of the longitudinal distribution of gamma rays from SAS-II data has been carried out using the available information on the gas distribution in the Galaxy. The overall distribution of cosmic rays in the galactic plane can be represented by an exponential function in galactocentric distance with a scale length of 8 kpc upto the solar circle and 10 kpc beyond. There is no evidence for a large gradient of the cosmic ray intensity in the outer parts of the Galaxy. The local emissivities of gamma rays in the energy regionsE >100 MeV and 35 MeV<E <100 MeV are (1.73±0.27)×10–25 photon/(cm3 s nH) and (2.40±0.41)×10–25 photon/(cm3 s nH) respectively. The contribution of °-decay gamma rays is 80% forE >100 MeV and 20% at lower energies. The electron spectrum required by this analysis has a power law spectral index of about –2.7 below a few hundred MeV. The observed gas distribution towards the galactic centre would predict a gamma-ray flux larger than observed. It is suggested that the molecular gas in the central region may be in the form of dense coudlets, in which low evergy cosmic rays do not penetrate; in this case the centre should be seen as a strong source only at high energies. An analysis of the radio sky survey map of the Galaxy at 408 MHz shows thatB varies with a scale-length of 40 kpc; no significance can be attached to the apparent deviation from the equipartition of energy densities between cosmic rays and magnetic field. The derived local emissivity is (1.46±0.28)×10–40 W/((m3 Hz), which corresponds toB 5 G. The surface brightness of radio and gamma-ray emissions in the Galaxy decreases from the centre with scale-lengths 6 kpc and 7 kpc respectively. No positive correlation can be noticed with either co-rotation radius or pattern speed, when compared with external spiral galaxies.  相似文献

Surface photometry of the UV continuum galaxy NGC 838 has been carried out in theB, V system using photographic plates obtained with the 74 Kottamia telescope, Egypt. Isophotes, luminosity profiles, integrated photographic magnitudes, effective diameters and other photometric parameters are derived. The photoelectrically calibrated total apparent magnitudes areB T =13.57 with maximum diameters 1.57×1.34 (at threshold m =27.7 mag.//) andV T =12.91 with maximum diameters 1.54×1.32 (at threshold m =27.7 mag./). The integrated colour index(B–V) T =0.66 and the effective surface brightness e (B=19.0 mag./) and e (V=19.7 mag./. The major axis is at position angle =85°±1°.The nucleus of NGC 838 is quite blue (integrated colour(B–V)=0.41 forr *<0.1) compared to normal galaxies while the colour becomes redder from the nucleus outwards. The UV excess, H emission and radio continuum emission previously observed from this galaxy by other investigators may be attributed to a recent burst of star formation in the nucleus of the galaxy of duration slightly greater than 2×107 yr.  相似文献

Spherically symmetric, steady-state, optically thick accretion onto a nonrotating black hole with the mass of is studied. The gas accreting onto the black hole is assumed to be a fully ionized hydrogen plasma withn 0=108 cm–3 andT 0=104 K far from the black hole, and a new approximate expression for the Eddington factor is introduced. The luminosity is estimated to beL=1.875×1033 erg s–1, which primarily arises from the optical surface (1) ofT104 K. The accretion flow is characterized by 1 and (v/c)10. In the optically thin region, the flow remains isothermal, and the increase of temperature occurs at 1. The radiative equilibrium is strictly realized at (v/c)10.  相似文献

On the basis of empirical (D)-dependency at the frequency of 5 GHz constructed using 15 planetary nebulae with the independently measured distances (10–171×10–20 W m–2 Hz–1 ster–1), we evaluated distances of 335 objects. Independent evidence of the correctness of the accepted scale are given. Then(D)-dependency is constructed and it is shown that atD<0.08 pc the mean electron density is higher than the one determined by the Seaton method. We showed that the filling factor diminishes with the increase of the PN diameter (1 atD0.08 pc and 0.2 atD0.4 pc). the ionized mass of 33 PNs is determined. With the diameter increase the ionized mass grows and atD0.4 pc reaches the valueM0.07M . We used the new distance scale when investigating the space distribution of PNs. The mean scale height =130±15 pc and the mean gradient of the change of surface densitym=0.37, which allowed us to estimate the total number of nebulae in the GalaxyN4×104. We divided the PNs according to their velocities (withV LSR>35 km s–1 andV LSR<35 km s–1) and permitted us to confirm that the PN belong to different sub-systems of the Galaxy. The estimated local formation rate of PNs [=(4.6±2.2)×10–12 pc–3 yr–1] is a little higher than the one of the white dwarfs. That can be explained by a large number of PNs having binary cores, which used in our sample. The statistical estimation of PN expansion velocity showed thatV ex increases from 5–7 km s–1 (atD0.03 pc) to 40–50 km s–1 (atD0.8 pc).  相似文献

On the basis of more abundant data a relation logPV/logR for cepheid variables (Fernie, 1965) is constructed. A linear relation between logP V and logR for classical cepheids is found, which perhaps has a break at R=10R . On the logR/logP diagram thes-cepheids (Efremov, 1968) show a distinct sequence. Alls-cepheids present a relative variation of the radii R/R0.075. The existence of non-s-cepheids with R/R0.075 raises a point about the evolutionary place of these stars (see Efremov, 1968). One could suppose that cepheids with logP>1.1 pulsate in the first overtone.  相似文献

Relative abundances in the region 74Z83 (W to Bi) are determined for 73 Dra, HR 4072, and some other Ap stars. Abundance peaks occur at atomic massesA=191±2 on 73 Dra, atA=201±3 on HR 4072, atA=199±5 on other main group Ap stars, and atA=201±2 on Mn stars. Pb has a relatively low abundance on Ap stars and also in cosmic rays which have an abundance peak atA=193±3. The abundance peaks on main group Ap stars are due to the cyclicr-process which occurred in explosions of former companion stars. Fission products of transuranic elements are recycled by further rapid neutron captures. At the end of ther-process, the high neutron flux decreases gradually so that the final -decays take place in a neutron-rich environment; superheavy elements (Z110) formed in ther-process may be partly destroyed by neutron-induced fission. The pulsar remnants of the explosions accelerater-process elements to cosmic-ray energies. The peak atA 201 on Mn stars is discussed briefly.  相似文献

Time resolved spectroscopy of the dwarf nova IP Pegasi in the range 7670–8320Å shows absorption lines originating from the cool secondary. A radial velocity curve for this component has been derived by cross-correlation with a normal M star. The curve has semi-amplitude K2=288.3±4 km s–1, and is slightly distorted. This distortion is equivalent to an orbit with an apparent eccentricity of 0.075±0.024. The mass function of the primary is 0.394±0.016M. From this we derive constraints on the component masses of 0.621<1.14M and 0.172<0.71M. The red star has a radius in the range 0.322<0.51R and is probably on the main sequence.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. We present Very Large Array observations at wavelengths of 2, 3.5, 6, and 20 cm, of angular broadening of radio sources due to the solar wind in the region 2–16 solar radii. Angular broadening is anisotropic with axial ratios in the range 2–16. Larger axial ratios are observed preferentially at smaller solar distances. Assuming that anisotropy is due to scattering blobs elongated along magnetic field lines, the distribution of position angles of the elliptically broadened images indicates that the field lines are non-radial even at the largest heliocentric distances observed here. At 5R , the major axis scattering angle is 0.7 at =6 cm and it varies with heliocentric distance asR –1.6. The level of turbulence, characterized by the wave structure function at a scale of 10 km along the major axis, normalized to =20 cm, has a value 20±7 at 5R and varies with heliocentric distance asR –3. Comprison with earlier results suggest that the level of turbulence is higher during solar maximum. Assuming a power-law spectrum of electron density fluctuations, the fitted spectral exponents have values in the range 2.8–3.4 for scales sizes between 2–35 km. The data suggests temporal fluctuations (of up to 10%) in the spectral exponent on a time scale of a few tens of minutes. The observed structure functions at different solar distances do not show any evidence for an inner scale; the upper limits are 1 km at 2R and 4 km at 13R . These upper limits are in conflict with earlier determinations and may suggest a reduced inner scale during solar maximum.  相似文献

The contact binary system CC Com (=12h09m33s.8, =+22°4339, (1950);V max=11.31, (B-V)max=1.24) is a W UMa-type system with the shortest known period. The photometric solution of CC Com is presented using the Wilson and Devinney method. The results show that the CC Com belongs to the late-type eclipsing binary with the spectral type K5V and K6V, low temperatureT 1=4300 K,T 2=4265 K, the mass ratioq=0.5873±0.0021, and the inclinationi=87°.719±1°.44. The best regions of the gravity darkening exponents , the bolomotric albedov, and the limb-darkening coefficients are tested. It is found that 0.1250.065, 0.1v0.5, =0.5 are better regions for CC Com. The third body ofl 3 is not found to be significant. The results are combined with the spectroscopic results of Rucinski to provide an estimate of the absolute parameters.  相似文献

The relative abundances of cool neutral hydrogen, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde are studied using all the available observational data in the literature. The obtained mean valuesN H 1/ ,N H 1/N CO,N CO/ are approximately constant in the dark clouds of the solar neighbourhood and in the distant molecular clouds. The observed correlationsN CO,A v and ,A v show that formaldehyde can also be used as an indicator of molecular hydrogen. The ratioN H1/A v depends on densities and decays considerably in the ranges of visual absorptions in which the molecules become detectable (A v 2 mg); an average of /N H 110 is calculated for the dense dark clouds.Indications of systematic temperature gradiens T/A v are found for formaldehyde and neutral hydrogen inside the dark clouds, and qualitative comparisons are made with theoretical quantum mechanics calculations. The observed carbon monoxide and formaldehyde abundances, the free electron layer in the Galaxy, the distribution of neutral hydrogen in different states are only compatible if an ionization rate of 10–16 is accepted, provided presumably by 2 MeV protons of cosmic radiation.Three main states for neutral hydrogen and dust are identified from different kinds of observational data (21 cm line in emission, absorption in galactic radio sources and self-absorption in the hot gas background): (1) a homogeneous intercloud stratum of tenuous gas and dust with a galactic halfwidth of 350 pc and mean parametersn H=0.2 atom cm–3, spin temperatureT s 10000 K andn d 0.3 mg kpc–1; (2) cool gas and dust concentrated in spiral features with a galactic half-width of less than 100 pc, probably forming clouds with diffuse and indefinite limits, with mean parametersn H2 atom cm–3,T s <1100 K (probable average,T s =135 K) andn d 3 mg kpc–1; (3) dense gas and dust clouds with a mean diameter of 7 pc and mean parametersn H700 atom cm–3 (90% in a molecular state),T s 63 K andn d 1 mg pc–1 on which molecules as CO and H2CO are formed. The application of the Jeans criteria for gravitational instability shows that the dense clouds are gravitationally bound while the gas in the intermediate state (2) can be protected against collapse by the total internal energy in the medium increasing due to cosmic rays and the magnetic field in the Galaxy. The observed velocity halfwidths and galacticZ-halfwidths in states (1) and (2) are compatible with a total mass density in the galactic layer of 90M pc–2 (gas plus stars) according to the barometric equation. The relative abundancesN H 1/N CO, calculated from C12O and C13O data and comparisons with studies in the 21 cm emission line, show that the antenna temperatureT A + in the 2.6 mm line of C12O is a good indicator of the cool gas densities in the Galaxy. The possible application of this for studies in galactic structure is discussed and hypothetical distributions of carbon monoxide in the zones outside the galactic planeB=0° are presented. From a synthesis based on the results obtained, a cycle is postulated for the neutral hydrogen in the Galaxy: condensation and cooling of gas molecular formation gravitational collapse and star formation gas dissipation and heating by cosmic rays and UV radiation.  相似文献

The observed distribution of waiting times t between X-ray solar flares of greater than C1 class listed in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) catalog exhibits a power-law tail (t) for large waiting times (t>10hours). It is shown that the power-law index varies with the solar cycle. For the minimum phase of the cycle the index is =–1.4±0.1, and for the maximum phase of the cycle the index is –3.2±0.2. For all years 1975–2001, the index is –2.2±0.1. We present a simple theory to account for the observed waiting-time distributions in terms of a Poisson process with a time-varying rate (t). A common approximation of slow variation of the rate with respect to a waiting time is examined, and found to be valid for the GOES catalog events. Subject to this approximation the observed waiting-time distribution is determined by f(), the time distribution of the rate . If f() has a power-law form for low rates, the waiting time-distribution is predicted to have a power-law tail (t)–(3+) (>–3). Distributions f() are constructed from the GOES data. For the entire catalog a power-law index =–0.9±0.1 is found in the time distribution of rates for low rates (<0.1hours –1). For the maximum and minimum phases power-law indices =–0.1±0.5 and =–1.7±0.2, respectively, are observed. Hence, the Poisson theory together with the observed time distributions of the rate predict power-law tails in the waiting-time distributions with indices –2.2±0.1 (1975–2001), –2.9±0.5 (maximum phase) and –1.3±0.2 (minimum phase), consistent with the observations. These results suggest that the flaring rate varies in an intrinsically different way at solar maximum by comparison with solar minimum. The implications of these results for a recent model for flare statistics (Craig, 2001) and more generally for our understanding of the flare process are discussed.  相似文献

The general relativistic Lense—Thirring effect can be measured by inspecting a suitable combination of the orbital residuals of the nodes of LAGEOS and LAGEOS II and the perigee of LAGEOS II. The solid and ocean Earth tides affect the recovery of the parameter by means of which the gravitomagnetic signal is accounted for in the combined residuals. Thus an extensive analysis of the perturbations induced on these orbital elements by the solid and ocean Earth tides is carried out. It involves the l=2 terms for the solid tides and the l=2,3,4 terms for the ocean tides. The perigee of LAGEOS II turns out to be very sensitive to the l=3 part of the ocean tidal spectrum, contrary to the nodes of LAGEOS and LAGEOS II. The uncertainty in the solid tidal perturbations, mainly due to the Love number k 2, ranges from 0.4% to 1.5%, while the ocean tides are uncertain at 5–15% level. The obtained results are used in order to check in a preliminary way which tidal constituents the Lense-Thirring shift is sensitive to. In particular it is tested if the semisecular 18.6-year zonal tide really does not affect the combined residuals. It turns out that, if modeled at the level of accuracy worked out in the paper, the l=2,4 m=0 and also, to a lesser extent, the l=3, m=0 tidal perturbations cancel out. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A cross-correlation study for time-lags of ±5 yrs between eleven ground based ozone stations (1957–1985) for = 40°N–75° N and = 30° E-114° W and five volcanic emissivity indices has shown their close connection: significant correlations well above 90% were obtained. Intepretation of these positive/negative correlations () was based on the global wind circulation (aided also by a 2-D, 3-D representation between, , ), and the types of volcanic aerosols leading to heterogeneous chemical reactions with ozone.  相似文献

Synoptic photoelectric observations of the coronal Fexiv and Fex emission lines at 530.3 nm and 637.4 nm, respectively, are analyzed to study the rotational behavior of the solar corona as a function of latitude, height, time and temperature between 1976 (1983 for Fex) and 2001. An earlier similar analysis of the Fexiv data at 1.15 R over only one 11-year solar activity cycle (Sime, Fisher, and Altrock, 1989, Astrophys. J. 336, 454) found suggestions of solar-cycle variations in the differential (latitude-dependent) rotation. These results are tested over the longer epoch now available. In addition, the new Fexiv 1.15 R results are compared with those at 1.25 R and with results from the Fex line. I find that for long-term averages, both ions show a weakly-differential rotation period that may peak near 80° latitude and then decrease to the poles. However, this high-latitude peak may be due to sensing low-latitude streamers at higher latitudes. There is an indication that the Fexiv rotation period may increase with height between 40° and 70° latitude. There is also some indication that Fex may be rotating slower than Fexiv in the mid-latitude range. This could indicate that structures with lower temperatures rotate at a slower rate. As found in the earlier study, there is very good evidence for solar-cycle-related variation in the rotation of Fexiv. At latitudes up to about 60°, the rotation varies from essentially rigid (latitude-independent) near solar minimum to differential in the rising phase of the cycle at both 1.15 R and 1.25 R . At latitudes above 60°, the rotation at 1.15 R appears to be nearly rigid in the rising phase and strongly differential near solar minimum, almost exactly out of phase with the low-latitude variation.  相似文献

Systematic reductions of nineteenth century observations to the system of the FK4 are discussed. Reductions made on a nightly basis are described and compared with the results obtained through the use of conventional tables. The series of observations made at the Paris Observatory from 1837 to 1881 was used to compare the two methods, and a combined system of 24 000 FK4, FK4 Sup and AGK 3R positions and proper motions provided the reference stars. The results show that for Uranus the mean error of a single observation in right ascension is ±1..33 when tables are used for the reductions, and ±1.12 when nightly reductions are made, while in declination the corresponding mean errors are ±0.88 and ±0.80. The observations of Neptune show an even greater difference between the two methods; the mean errors for the tabular and nightly reductions are ±1.57 and ±1.09 in right ascension and ±0.88 and ±0.75 in declination. Secular rates in the (0–C)'s of Uranus of –0.029/year in right ascension and ±0.030/year in declination are present when the observations are reduced with tables. These rates are reduced to –0.007/year and +0.015/year, respectively, when nightly reductions are made.Presented at the Symposium Star Catalogues, Positional Astronomy and Celestial Mechanics, held in honor of Paul Herget at the U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, November 30, 1978.  相似文献

Intensity, polarization, and cooling rate of the two-photon annihilation radiation are studied in detail in the case of one-dimensional power-law distributions of electrons and positrons, assuming that they occupy the ground Landau level in a strong magnetic fieldB1010–1012 G. Simple analytical expressions for limiting cases are obtained and results of numerical calculations of radiation characteristics are presented. Power-lawe ± distributions ± ± –k are shown to generate power-law spectra of the annihilation radiation atEmc 2 andEmc 2, with indices depending on the direction of radiation. The annihilation spectra at =0 show the largest blue-shifts of their maxima and the hardest high-energy tailsI(Emc 2, =0)E –(k–1). The blue-shifts reduce, and the hard tials steepen, with increasing . At >(2mc 2/E)1/2 the slopes of the high-energy tails rapidly transform to that at =2,I(Emc 2, =/2)E –(2k+3). The direction-integrated spectraS(E) also display the power-law tials at low and high energies,S(Emc 2)E –(k+1). The total annihilation rate and energy losses decrease with decreasingk, being higher than for the isotropice ± power-law distributions at the samek. The radiation is linearly polarized in the plane formed by the magnetic field and wave-vector. The polarization degreeP is maximum atEmc 2:P max0.6 for =/2. Annihilation features and power-law-like hard tails observed in many gamma-ray burst spectra may be associated with the annihilation radiation of the magnetized power-law distributed plasma near neutron stars. Comparison of the observed and theoretical spectra allows one to estimate the power-law index of thee e +-distribution and the gravitational redshift factor in the radiating region.  相似文献
