The Darwin-Kaula theory of bodily tides is intended for celestial bodies rotating without libration. We demonstrate that this theory, in its customary form, is inapplicable to a librating body. Specifically, in the presence of libration in longitude, the actual spectrum of Fourier tidal modes differs from the conventional spectrum rendered by the Darwin–Kaula theory for a nonlibrating celestial object. This necessitates derivation of formulae for the tidal torque and the tidal heating rate, that are applicable under libration. We derive the tidal spectrum for longitudinal forced libration with one and two main frequencies, generalisation to more main frequencies being straightforward. (By main frequencies we understand those emerging due to the triaxiality of the librating body.) Separately, we consider a case of free libration at one frequency (once again, generalisation to more frequencies being straightforward). We also calculate the tidal torque. This torque provides correction to the triaxiality-caused physical libration. Our theory is not self-consistent: we assume that the tidal torque is much smaller than the permanent-triaxiality-caused torque, so the additional libration due to tides is much weaker than the main libration due to the permanent triaxiality. Finally, we calculate the tidal dissipation rate in a body experiencing forced libration at the main mode, or free libration at one frequency, or superimposed forced and free librations.  相似文献

Inside the 3/2 mean motion resonance some Hilda-type orbits show effects of a three-body resonance that includes the frequency of the libration due to the 3/2 resonance. A graphical method presents numerical results for such orbits and demonstrates in 6 cases a process of temporary libration, that is ruled by the additional resonance together with the secular period of the eccentricities of Jupiter and Saturn.  相似文献

In this paper the effect of the Galactic tidal field on a Sun–comet pair will be considered when the comet is situated in the Oort cloud and planetary perturbations can be neglected. First, two averaged models were created, one of which can be solved analytically in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions. In the latter system, switching between libration and circulation of the argument of perihelion is prohibited. The non-averaged equations of motion are integrated numerically in order to determine the regions of the ( e ,  i ) phase space in which chaotic orbits can be found, and an effort is made to explain why the chaotic orbits manifest in these regions only. It is evident that for moderate values of semimajor axis, a ∼50 000 au , chaotic orbits are found for ( e <0.15 , 40°≤ i ≤140°) as determined by integrating the evolution of the comet over a period of 104 orbits. These regions of chaos increase in size with increasing semimajor axis. The typical e-folding times for these orbits range from around 600 Myr to 1 Gyr and thus are of little practical interest, as the time-scales for chaos arising from passing stars are much shorter. As a result of Galactic rotation, the chaotic regions in ( e ,  i ) phase space are not symmetric for prograde and retrograde orbits.  相似文献

The behavior of a test particle placed at a triangular libration point of the Earth-Moon system is calculated using Newton's equations for the four-body problem, with arbitrarily chosen initial conditions. If the orbits of the massive bodies have their real eccentricities, then the test particle leaves the vicinity of the libration point in three years, much faster than if the orbits were circular. Very small particles are affected by solar radiation pressure, and may leave even faster.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study on applying numerical techniques to accurately compute and robustly extend the libration point orbits (LPOs). A new methodology is proposed exploiting the hyperbolic dynamics of the collinear libration points. Numerical tools are developed to facilitate the efficient computation process, which are applicable to realistic force models and inherently parallelizable. Extensive numerical explorations in the Earth–Moon system are carried out, revealing the delicate structures of nested island chains and bounded chaotic motions on the center manifold. Numerical results confirm that the proposed approach can handle the computations of various types of LPOs in a unified manner and is operational over a wide range of energy levels. LPOs obtained with this approach offer a broad range of future mission possibilities in an extended vicinity of the collinear libration points.  相似文献

This paper investigates the orbit radial stabilization of a two-craft virtual Coulomb structure about circular orbits and at Earth–Moon libration points. A generic Lyapunov feedback controller is designed for asymptotically stabilizing an orbit radial configuration about circular orbits and collinear libration points. The new feedback controller at the libration points is provided as a generic control law in which circular Earth orbit control form a special case. This control law can withstand differential solar perturbation effects on the two-craft formation. Electrostatic Coulomb forces acting in the longitudinal direction control the relative distance between the two satellites and inertial electric propulsion thrusting acting in the transverse directions control the in-plane and out-of-plane attitude motions. The electrostatic virtual tether between the two craft is capable of both tensile and compressive forces. Using the Lyapunov’s second method the feedback control law guarantees closed loop stability. Numerical simulations using the non-linear control law are presented for circular orbits and at an Earth–Moon collinear libration point.  相似文献

The Kozai mechanism often destabilizes high-inclination orbits. It couples changes in the eccentricity and inclination, and drives high inclination, circular orbits to low inclination, eccentric orbits. In a recent study of the dynamics of planetesimals in the quadruple star system HD 98800, there were significant numbers of stable particles in circumbinary polar orbits about the inner binary pair which are apparently able to evade the Kozai instability.
Here, we isolate this feature and investigate the dynamics through numerical and analytical models. The results show that the Kozai mechanism of the outer star is disrupted by a nodal libration induced by the inner binary pair on a shorter time-scale. By empirically modelling the period of the libration, a criteria for determining the high-inclination stability limits in general triple systems is derived. The nodal libration feature is interesting and, although affecting inclination and node only, shows many parallels to the Kozai mechanism. This raises the possibility that high-inclination planets and asteroids may be able to survive in multistellar systems.  相似文献

The stability of collinear and triangular libration points is investigated in the photogravitational elliptic restricted three-body problem, in which two primary bodies emit light energy simultaneously. The conditions of stability of the collinear and triangular libration points are obtained based on a linearized set of equations of perturbed motion for various values of the eccentricity of the Keplerian orbits and the mass ratio of the primary bodies. The maximal numerical value is defined for the eccentricity at which a stable libration point can still exist. It is demonstrated how the parametric resonance causes an instability of collinear and triangular libration points; the evolution of the origination of the instability zones is traced. The minimal eccentricity value is found at which zones of instability of triangular libration points arise.  相似文献

The classical Öpik theory provides an estimate of the collision probability between two bodies on bound, heliocentric or planetocentric orbits under restrictive assumptions of: (i) constant eccentricity and inclination, and (ii) uniform circulation of the longitude of node and argument of pericenter. These assumptions are violated whenever either of the orbits has a large inclination with respect to the local Laplace plane or large eccentricity, and their motion is perturbed by an exterior (tidal) gravitational field of a planet or the Sun. In this situation, known as the Lidov–Kozai regime, the eccentricity and inclination values exhibit large and correlated oscillations. At the same time, the longitude of node and the argument of pericenter may have strongly nonlinear time evolution, with the latter being even bound to a small interval of values. Here we develop a new Öpik-type collision probability theory which is valid even for highly inclined and/or eccentric orbits of the projectile. We assume that the orbit of the target is circular and in the local Laplace plane. Such a generalized setting is necessary, as an example, to correctly estimate the terrestrial impact fluxes of sporadic micrometeoroids on high-inclination orbits (notably those from the toroidal source and the associated helion and anti-helion arcs).  相似文献

In this paper, the lunar gravity assist (LGA) orbits starting from the Earth are investigated in the Sun–Earth–Moon–spacecraft restricted four-body problem (RFBP). First of all, the sphere of influence of the Earth–Moon system (SOIEM) is derived. Numerical calculation displays that inside the SOIEM, the effect of the Sun on the LGA orbits is quite small, but outside the SOIEM, the Sun perturbation can remarkably influence the trend of the LGA orbit. To analyze the effect of the Sun, the RFBP outside the SOIEM is approximately replaced by a planar circular restricted three-body problem, where, in the latter case, the Sun and the Earth–Moon barycenter act as primaries. The stable manifolds associated with the libration point orbit and their Poincaré sections on the SOIEM are applied to investigating the LGA orbit. According to our research, the patched LGA orbits on the Poincaré sections can efficiently distinguish the transit LGA orbits from the non-transit LGA orbits under the RFBP. The former orbits can pass through the region around libration point away from the SOIEM, but the latter orbits will bounce back to the SOIEM. Besides, the stable transit probability is defined and analyzed. According to the variant requirement of the space mission, the results obtained can help us select the LGA orbit and the launch window.  相似文献

Cycloids, arcuate features observed on Europa’s surface, have been interpreted as tensile cracks that form in response to diurnal tidal stress caused by Europa’s orbital eccentricity. Stress from non-synchronous rotation may also contribute to tidal stress, and its influence on cycloid shapes has been investigated as well. Obliquity, fast precession, and physical libration would contribute to tidal stress but have often been neglected because they were expected to be negligibly small. However, more sophisticated analyses that include the influence of Jupiter’s other large satellites and the state of Europa’s interior indicate that perhaps these rotational parameters are large enough to alter the tidal stress field and the formation of tidally-driven fractures. We test tidal models that include obliquity, fast precession, stress due to non-synchronous rotation, and physical libration by comparing how well each model reproduces observed cycloids. To do this, we have designed and implemented an automated parameter-searching algorithm that relies on a quantitative measure of fit quality, which we use to identify the best fits to observed cycloids. We then apply statistical techniques to determine the tidal model best supported by the data. By incorporating obliquity, fits to observed southern hemisphere cycloids improve, and we can reproduce equatorial and equator-crossing cycloids. Furthermore, we find that obliquity plus physical libration is the tidal model best supported by the data. With this model, the obliquities range from 0.32° to 1.35°. The libration amplitudes are 0.72–2.44°, and the libration phases are −6.04° to 17.72° with one outlier at 84.5°. The variability in obliquity is expected if Europa’s ice shell is mechanically decoupled from the interior, and the libration amplitudes are plausible in the presence of a subsurface ocean. Indeed, the presence of a decoupling ocean may result in feedbacks that cause all of these rotational parameters to become time-variable.  相似文献

Stability regions are identified in the neighborhood of periodic orbits. Features of motion in these regions are investigated. The structure of stability regions in the neighborhood of the Schubart, Moore, and Broucke orbits, the S-orbit, and the Ducati orbit is studied. The following features of motion are identified near these periodic orbits: libration, precession, symmetrization, centralization, bounce (a transition between types of trajectories), ejections, etc.  相似文献

The convergence of Lagrange series is studied on a part of the elliptical orbit for values of eccentricity exceeding the Laplace limit. The regions in the vicinity of the two apses of the orbit are identified in which the Lagrange series converge absolutely and uniformly for the values of the eccentricity greater than the Laplace limit. The obtained results are of practical interest for astronomy when studying motions of stellar bodies in orbits with high eccentricity. In particular, these series may be used to calculate the orbits of comets or asteroids with high eccentricity as they pass through the neighborhood of perihelion or to calculate the orbits of artificial satellites with high eccentricity “hanging” in the vicinity of apogee. In stellar dynamics, these series may be used in cases of close binary stars, many of which move in orbits with an eccentricity greater than the Laplace limit.  相似文献

We study homoclinic transport to Lyapunov orbits around a collinear libration point in the planar restricted three body problem. A method to compute homoclinic orbits is first described. Then we introduce the scattering map for this problem (defined on a suitable normally hyperbolic invariant manifold) and we show how to compute it using the information already obtained for the homoclinic orbits. An example application to Astrodynamics is also proposed.  相似文献

The dynamics of the two Jupiter triangular libration points perturbed by Saturn is studied in this paper. Unlike some previous works that studied the same problem via the pure numerical approach, this study is done in a semianalytic way. Using a literal solution, we are able to explain the asymmetry of two orbits around the two libration points with symmetric initial conditions. The literal solution consists of many frequencies. The amplitudes of each frequency are the same for both libration points, but the initial phase angles are different. This difference causes a temporary spatial asymmetry in the motions around the two points, but this asymmetry gradually disappears when the time goes to infinity. The results show that the two Jupiter triangular libration points should have symmetric spatial stable regions in the present status of Jupiter and Saturn. As a test of the literal solution, we study the resonances that have been extensively studied in Robutel and Gabern (Mon Not R Astron Soc 372:1463–1482, 2006). The resonance structures predicted by our analytic theory agree well with those found in Robutel and Gabern (Mon Not R Astron Soc 372:1463–1482, 2006) via a numerical approach. Two kinds of chaotic orbits are discussed. They have different behaviors in the frequency map. The first kind of chaotic orbits (inner chaotic orbits) is of small to moderate amplitudes, while the second kind of chaotic orbits (outer chaotic orbits) is of relatively larger amplitudes. Using analytical theory, we qualitatively explain the transition process from the inner chaotic orbits to the outer chaotic orbits with increasing amplitudes. A critical value of the diffusion rate is given to separate them in the frequency map. In a forthcoming paper, we will study the same problem but keep the planets in migration. The time asymmetry, which is unimportant in this paper, may cause an observable difference in the two Jupiter Trojan groups during a very fast planet migration process.  相似文献

Using inter-satellite range data, the combined autonomous orbit determination problem of a lunar satellite and a probe on some special orbits is studied in this paper. The problem is firstly studied in the circular restricted three-body problem, and then generalized to the real force model of the Earth-Moon system. Two kinds of special orbits are discussed:collinear libration point orbits and distant retrograde orbits.Studies show that the orbit determination accuracy in both cases can reach that of the observations. Some important properties of the system are carefully studied. These findings should be useful in the future engineering implementation of this conceptual study.  相似文献

We explore the long-term stability of Earth Trojans by using a chaos indicator, the Frequency Map Analysis. We find that there is an extended stability region at low eccentricity and for inclinations lower than about $50^{\circ }$ even if the most stable orbits are found at $i \le 40^{\circ }$ . This region is not limited in libration amplitude, contrary to what found for Trojan orbits around outer planets. We also investigate how the stability properties are affected by the tidal force of the Earth–Moon system and by the Yarkovsky force. The tidal field of the Earth–Moon system reduces the stability of the Earth Trojans at high inclinations while the Yarkovsky force, at least for bodies larger than 10 m in diameter, does not seem to strongly influence the long-term stability. Earth Trojan orbits with the lowest diffusion rate survive on timescales of the order of $10^9$  years but their evolution is chaotic. Their behaviour is similar to that of Mars Trojans even if Earth Trojans appear to have shorter lifetimes.  相似文献
