During the total eclipse of ε Aur, 18 spectra in the region were taken in rapid succession on 1983 March 9, and 6 spectra on March 10, with the Reticon at the Coudé focus of the McDonald Observatory 2-metre telescope. The data were processed and plotted by computer. Variations on short time-scales were observed in the radial velocities of the metallic lines and . The radial velocities of individual metallic lines are between 3 and 16 km/s more negative than calculated from the orbital elements. The has 3 emission features with equivalent widths 300 mÅ, 54 mÅ and 1 mÅ and 1 absorption feature with an equivalent width of 1800 mÅ. The profile and the equivalent widths changed only slightly while substantial variations occurred on the blue side of the two stronger emission features. The radial velocities of the emission features are about ?60, +12 and +57 km/s; that of the absorption component is +20 km/s. The radial velocity of the strongest emission feature also varies, but by much smaller amounts than the metallic lines and the variation appears to be periodic. A model in which the secondary is a B-star surrounded by hot, active clouds is proposed.  相似文献

I present an evolutionary stellar population synthesis model which predicts spectral energy distributions, SEDs, for simple old single-metallicity stellar populations, SSPs, in the wavelength intervalsλλ 3856–4476Å and 4795–5465Å at a resolution of FWHM$equals;1.8 $Aring;, on the basis of an extensive empirical spectral library composed of ≈550 stars. The synthesized model spectra can be used to analyse observed galaxy spectra in a very easy and flexible way, allowing us to adapt the theoretical predictions to the characteristics of the data instead of proceeding in the opposite direction (as we must do, for example, when transforming observational data to a particular system of indices at specific resolution/s, such as Lick, which is heavily instrument-dependent).The SSP spectra, with flux-calibrated response curves, can be smoothed to the same resolution as that of the data or to galaxy internal velocity dispersion, allowing us to analyse the observed spectra in their own system, and with no need to correct the index measurements for velocity dispersion. Thus, we are able to use all the information contained in the data, at their higher spectral resolution. Excellent fits are obtained for various metal-rich globular clusters at relatively high resolution, and well known spectral peculiarities such as the strong CN absorption features are detected. When applied to early-type galaxies the model also shows its potential for studying element ratios such as the Mg/Fe overabundance. The model spectra provided robust age indicators for old stellar populations which do not depend on metallicity and therefore have a great potential for solving the age–metallicitydegeneracy of galaxy spectra.  相似文献

The instrumental profile of a Lyot-filter with 0.5 Å pass-band for H has been determined from photographic spectra obtained with a large grating spectrograph and a continuous light source.After fine adjustment of the filter, the transmission profile in parallel light agrees closely with the theoretical profile as given by crystal optics. The peak transmission has been found to be 12% of the incident unpolarized radiation.Convolving the measured instrumental profile with the average solar spectral distribution near H, it can be shown that the parasitic light (transmission outside the main pass-band) contributes 10% to the total light flux with the filter centered on the line. At wavelength shifts of 0.5 and 0.8Å, the parasitic light contribution is 25% and 40%, respectively.The deformation of the line-profile of various solar phenomena (faculae, filaments, flares) by the instrumental profile is discussed quantitatively.Mitteilungen aus dem Fraunhofer Institut Nr. 82.  相似文献

Stokes polarization profiles of the Mg?b2 5172.68 Å spectral line on two simple sunspots are obtained with the Multi-Channel Solar Telescope (MCST) at the Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS). This is done by means of scanning this line over the wavelength interval from 200 mÅ redward of the line center to 200 mÅ blueward, in steps of 10 mÅ. A generalized analytic solution to the transfer equation for polarized radiation is presented. With a nonlinear least-square fitting technique, the linear calibration coefficients for the low-chromospheric longitudinal magnetic field is obtained in the weak-field case. We also discuss the problems in calibrating the transverse field with this line. It is shown that the weak-field approximation is not applicable to the chromospheric Mg?b2 line for the transverse component of the magnetic field.  相似文献

Eleven high-dispersion spectra of Venus, taken with blue Doppler shifts have enabled us to unmask the 7323.88 Å forbidden line of Ca ii from terrestrial absorption. We obtain an equivalent width of 7.4±0.4 mÅ for this line in integrated sunlight. Our value of W λ is smaller than previous values and much more accurate. The HSRA solar model gives a solar calcium abundance of A Ca = 6.21.  相似文献

We present the results of ground based observations and model analysis of transits of exoplanets WASP-33b, WASP-43b, WASP-104b, and HD 219134b. Broadband transmission spectra (dependence of the observed radii on wavelength) have been plotted for all exoplanets, ranging from the near-UV to the IR region. We show that the transmission spectrum of WASP-33b is, within errors, flat in the range of 3800 Å to 12 000 Å. The derived broadband spectrum of WASP-43b is also flat in the first approximation, although other authors have reported the presence of absorption lines of various chemical elements in the narrow bands. Model spectra of WASP-43b taken from the literature and based on IR data allowed us to obtain a direct estimate of its nighttime temperature. We present and analyze the results of ground based observations which confirm the discovery of a transiting super-Earth in the HD 219134 star system. Signs of this planet’s existence were discovered earlier during the radial velocity analysis of the star, as well as transit observations with the Spitzer space telescope in the IR.At the estimated time, we registered a transit in the near-UV range several times. The transit depth measured in the U-band of the Johnson photometric system amounts to 0.13% ± 0.027%, which is deeper than the one based on Spitzer measurements. o And is one of the most frequently observed Be stars, both in photometry and spectroscopy. It is a multiple system of at least four stars (a Be star, a close binary of spectral types B7 and B8, and an A star). For over a century, numerous observers report a highly variable spectrum, photometric changes, and a substantial range of radial velocity. The star has changed back and forth between a shell-type and a normal B-type star. The last emission phase started in 1992 and ended in 2000. Analysis of the dynamical spectra at spectral lines Mg II 4481 Å and He I 6678 Å and radial velocity curves shows that the two binary components can be resolved. We decomposed the triple star spectra and computed orbital parameters of the binary companion using the KOREL code for spectrum disentangling.  相似文献

Isophotes of the luminance distribution over the disk of Venus at several phase angles and in several wavelengths are constructed by means of isodensitometry of high-quality photographic negatives of Venus. Twenty-three plates were selected from more than 2000 original negatives available at the IAU Planetary Photographs Center of Meudon Observatory. Six isophote maps were made from a series of yellow light images (λ = 5850Å), corresponding to phase angles from 22° to 129°. Special attention was paid to the rare occurrences of distinct features in yellow light. A sequence of isophote maps was taken in six wavelengths from λ = 5850 to 3250Å. The ultraviolet cloud markings appear as changes in the isophote configurations for different wavelengths. Variations of contrast with wavelengths are deduced. Dark features, almost invisible at 4500Å, reach a contrast of 25% at 3500Å which then no longer increases toward ultraviolet. The polar bright clouds give contrasts of 40% to 60% in ultraviolet. A series of images taken in ultraviolet at 3500Åshows configurations characteristic of observations at short wavelengths for both the waxing and the waning crescent.In Parts II and III of this series of papers, the isophote maps will be compared with theoretical curves computed from the theory of multiple-order scattering by aerosol particles.  相似文献

The LASCO-C3 coronagraph on SOHO, launched in December 1995, has been collecting images of the corona and background star fields in a regular manner since 1996. This instrument contains a number of broadband filters with various passbands in the range between 400 and 1100 nm. The filter used most often has been the Clear filter (400–900 nm) but there are four other filters with about 100 nm passbands that are also used periodically. Preliminary calibration of the C3 optical system was done before flight and a number of techniques that use star intensities or magnitudes and position have been applied during flight. In order to understand the long-term behavior of the C3 instrument, we have recently performed an analysis of LASCO data that examines the observed intensities of a set of moderately bright stars whose spectra is known from 13 color photometry. Using these star spectra and the observed count rates we have derived the photometric calibration factors of the C3 coronagraph for all five color filters with an absolute precision of about ± 7%. Observations with the Clear filter have been used to look for long-term trends in the instrument sensitivity. The observations indicate a very slight decrease in the instrument sensitivity of about 3.5% over the 8 years studied here.  相似文献

Thirty well-exposed photographic plates showing the spectrum of the carbon-dioxide band at 8689 Å in the atmosphere of Venus were obtained during 1968 and 1969. All spectra were obtained at a dispersion of 2 Å/mm for Venus phase angles varying from 10° to 126°. We find rotational temperatures ranging from 236 to 274 K. The average value of the rotational temperature is 246 ± 1 K (one standard deviation); for our 1967 observations, the rotational temperatures ranged from 222 to 248 K, with an average value of 238 ± 4 K. The variation of the equivalent width of the 8689 Å band, with Venus phase angle, was very similar for the two sets of observations (53 plates). The temporal variations, of approximately 30% were comparable with the phase variations over this limited range of phase angle.  相似文献

Accurate knowledge of the spectral transmission profile of a Lyot filter is important, in particular in comparing observations with simulated data. The paper summarizes available facts about the transmission profile of the Dutch Open Telescope (DOT) Hα Lyot filter pointing to a discrepancy between sidelobe‐free Gaussian‐like profile measured spectroscopically and signatures of possible leakage of parasitic continuum light in DOT Hα images. We compute wing‐to‐center intensity ratios resulting from convolutions of Gaussian and square of the sinc function with the Hα atlas profile and compare them with the ratios derived from observations of the quiet Sun chromosphere at disk center. We interpret discrepancies between the anticipated and observed ratios and the sharp limb visible in the DOT Hα image as an indication of possible leakage of parasitic continuum light. A method suggested here can be applied also to indirect testing of transmission profiles of other Lyot filters. We suggest two theoretical transmission profiles of the DOT Hα Lyot filter which should be considered as the best available approximations. From the data on bright stars of different spectral and luminosity classes from the 13-color photometry catalog, the selective extinction of light by the interstellar dust has been studied. The stars from the 1000-pc vicinity of the Sun were investigated. In the optical spectral range, the interstellar extinction curves show systematic deviations from the “λ?1” law, which allows one to sort them into three types. The observed curves of the interstellar dust extinction were compared with the theoretical curves calculated from the reflectance spectra of the asteroids under the approximation of the Rayleigh particles. The calculated extinction curves for the surface material of D-type asteroids and the Tagish Lake carbonaceous chondrite agree rather well with the observed curves of the interstellar extinction of the first type.  相似文献

We present the results of our tests of an acousto-optical imaging spectrophotometer with a CCD detector for astronomical observations. The tunable acousto-optical filter, based on a paratellurite single crystal with a 13 Å pass band operates in the wavelength range 6300–11000 Å. We obtained image spectra for the planetary nebula NGC 7027 in the Hα line and for Saturn in the methane absorption band, as well as Hα and continuum images for the nuclear region of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068.  相似文献

We present results on the ability of microturbulence, LTE line formation, and a homogeneous thermal model to realistically represent the center-limb variation of temporally and spacially averaged solar line profiles. We have used three somewhat similar semi-empirical thermal models in combination with five current microturbulence models which cover the gamut of homogeneous-isotropic to nonhomogeneous-anisotropic. From high resolution photoelectric data for λ λ5000–6000 at five μ-values (1, 0.63, 0.4, 0.25, 0.16) obtained at KPNO, we selected 17 Fe i and 5 Fe ii line profiles to unblend and symmetrize for study. An iterative scheme has been developed to calculate theoretical profiles for the various combination of models and compare them to the observed profile using the abundance at each limb position and the magnitude of the pressure broadening at the center of the disc as parameters. We find that a microturbulence model, for which the radial and tangential components increase into deeper layers with ξtanrad, produces a reasonable good center-limb fit for lines less than 100 mÅ. However, for lines stronger than 140 mÅ, microturbulence models with no depth dependence produce the best match between theory and observation. Thus, there is reason to question the uniqueness of the microturbulence concept.  相似文献

Three sets of spectra (in all 85 spectra) of the well-known standard and high eccentricity spectroscopic binary star Beta Ari were taken with the Boller and Chivens grating spectrography (29 and 35 Å mm?1) applied to the 137 cm reflector of the Merate Astronomical Observatory. These sets were takenduring the periastron passage of 14–15 November 1976,after the periastron passage of 2–3 October 1977 and before the apastron passage of 23 November 1977. The analysis of the radial velocitiesRV and equivalent widthsW λ of hydrogen and metal lines show periodic variations similar to those of some classical Delta Scuti stars. The variations of the asymmetries of the profiles of H and Caii K lines, linked to the variations of theRV seem to recall the Schuster effect observed in classical Cepheids. A periastron effect appears from: (a) increased amplitudes of theRV curves, (b) remarkable variations of the averagedW λ curves, (c) strong positive asymmetry (blue wing larger than red wing) in the Hγ and Caii K lines. A faint ‘bump’ inRV andW λ curves of Caii K line is singled out and could be in agreement with some theoretical forecasts of Aleshin (1964).  相似文献

Axial rotation of a star plays an important role in its evolution, physical conditions in its atmosphere and the shape of its spectrum. Methods of determining of v sin i are based on comparison of the observed profiles of spectral lines with the theoretical ones. Their accuracy depends on the type and quality of spectrograms, as well as on the algorithms used. A frequently used method is a simple comparison of one line, e.g. the Ca ii at 3933 Å or Mg ii at 4481 Å. This, however, may result in a false value of v sin i in case when low-dispersion spectra are used. We investigate the spectra of stars with a significant discrepancy of their rotational velocities introduced in various sources, and analyze the corresponding spectral region from the point of view of possible admixed features, which may mask the true line profiles. We use CCD spectra of the stars having this discrepancy, to compare with theoretical spectra. We also studied photographic spectra, obtained during the 1970s and 1980s. In this work we studied the spectra of the binary HD 2913A, and identified the spectrum of its weaker component designated as “Ab”. We estimated the effective temperature, surface gravity and projected rotational velocity of the weaker component that classify it as an early F-type Main Sequence star. The discrepancy between the values of v sin i derived from the two lines of calcium and magnesium is explained as a consequence of superposition of the pair’s spectra. The cooler component contributes by a strong Ca ii-K line, and thus significantly broadens the observed line profile.  相似文献

The 2200 Å bump is a major figure of interstellar extinction. However, extinction curves with no bump exist and are, with no exception, linear from the near‐infrared down to 2500 Å at least, often over all the visible‐UV spectrum. The duality linear versus bump‐like extinction curves can be used to re‐investigate the relationship between the bump and the continuum of interstellar extinction, and answer questions as why do we observe two different kinds of extinction (linear or with a bump) in interstellar clouds? How are they related? How does the existence of two different extinction laws fits with the requirement that extinction curves depend exclusively on the reddening E (BV) and on a single additional parameter? What is this free parameter? It will be found that (1) interstellar dust models, which suppose the existence of three different types of particles, each contributing to the extinction in a specific wavelength range, fail to account for the observations; (2) the 2200 Å bump is very unlikely to be absorption by some yet unidentified molecule; (3) the true law of interstellar extinction must be linear from the visible to the far‐UV, and is the same for all directions including other galaxies (as the Magellanic Clouds). In extinction curves with a bump the excess of starlight (or the lack of extinction) observed at wavelengths less than λ = 4000 Å arises from a large contribution of light scattered by hydrogen on the line of sight. Although counter‐intuitive this contribution is predicted by theory. The free parameter of interstellar extinction is related to distances between the observer, the cloud on the line of sight, and the star behind it (the parameter is likely to be the ratio of the distances from the cloud to the star and to the observer). 本文讨论Blazar天体中光学射电大爆发频谱演化的理论模型.考虑沿喷流传播的相对论性激波所注入或加速的相对论性电子,受到康普顿、同步辐射和绝热膨胀三种损耗,并计及相对论电子能谱的高能截断.假定喷流轴线与观测者方向构成很小角度.文中给出了大爆发频谱三阶段连续演化的特性,即康普顿阶段,同步辐射阶段和绝热膨胀阶段的爆发特性.频谱演化用(Sm-vm)关系表达(见图2,图中Sm为频谱反转流量,vm为反转频率),它与一些Blazar天体中观测到的典型形式相符合.  相似文献

We present ultraviolet spectra of two eclipsing interacting binary systems, W Ser and UX Mon, with good coverage over the 14.16-day and 5.9-day orbital periods, respectively, using observations taken by the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) during the period between 1978–1993 and 1981–1991. Two profiles of W Ser and UX Mon showing variations of line fluxes at two orbital phases are presented. This paper focuses on the N V emission line at 1240 Å, C II emission line at 1336 Å, C IV emission line at 1550 Å, O III emission line at 1666 Å and the Si III emission line at 1892 Å, produced in an extended gaseous envelope around the mass-gaining component by calculating spectral line fluxes. Our results show that there are variations of line fluxes with time, similar to the light curves found for both W Ser and UX Mon. We attribute these spectral variations to eclipse effects and to variations in the mass transfer rate. These results from the IUE observations support the thick disk model around the primary star in which variations of mass transfer affect the observed radiation from the gaseous envelope around the hot star. Future, high-resolution imaging is recommended to confirm the inferred asymmetrical circumstellar envelopes.  相似文献
