Travertine deposits of calcium carbonate can dominate channel geomorphology in streams where travertine deposition creates a distinct morphology characterized by travertine terraces, steep waterfalls, and large pools. Algae and microorganisms can facilitate travertine deposition, but how travertine affects material and energy flow in stream ecosystems is less well understood. Nearly a century of flow diversion for hydropower production has decimated the natural travertine formations in Fossil Creek, Arizona. The dam will be decommissioned in 2005. Returning carbonate-rich spring water to the natural stream channel should promote travertine deposition. How will the recovery of travertine affect the ecology of the creek? To address this question, we compared primary production, decomposition, and the abundance and diversity of invertebrates and fish in travertine and riffle/run reaches of Fossil Creek, Arizona. We found that travertine supports higher primary productivity, faster rates of leaf litter decomposition, and higher species richness of the native invertebrate assemblage. Observations from snorkeling in the stream indicate that fish density is also higher in the travertine reach. We postulate that restoring travertine to Fossil Creek will increase stream productivity, rates of litter processing, and energy flow up the food web. Higher aquatic productivity could fundamentally shift the nature of the stream from a sink to a source of energy for the surrounding terrestrial landscape.  相似文献

198 9/1 990年夏季作者在中国第六次南极考察环极航行中 ,对南大洋不同海区的浮游植物细胞大小分级叶绿素 a和初级生产力、颗粒有机碳及有关环境参数进行了测定。结果表明 ,在南极水域中以南大西洋最为肥沃 ,叶绿素 a浓度平均超过 2 μg/dm3 ,POC的平均浓度也最高 (>1 0 0 μg/dm3 ) ,而德雷克海峡和南印度洋较低。叶绿素 a和 POC的空间变异具有同步的波动。分级叶绿素 a结果表明 ,在肥沃的南大西洋以细胞 >2 0 μm的绢滤浮游生物 (主要是小型浮游生物 )所占比重最高 (6 5 %) ,而在较贫瘠的南印度洋则以微微型浮游生物 (<2 μm)最高 (47%)。分级初级生产力的结果表明 ,在南大西洋和德雷克海峡对总初级生产力的贡献以微微型浮游生物为最大 ,微型浮游生物和小型浮游生物的贡献大致相当。微微型浮游生物相对高的光合作用生理活性显示了它们在南大洋海洋生态系中的重要性。与南极水域相比 ,亚南极和亚热带水域较为贫瘠。  相似文献

中国第 1 6次南极考察期间 ,作者随雪龙船于 1 999年 1 1月 2 2日至 2 0 0 0年 1月 1 8日从澳洲西南部到达东南极普里兹湾 ,后经南印度洋 -南大西洋 -德雷克海峡 -南大西洋 -南印度洋返回普里兹湾。航渡中定时采集表层海水 ,进行水温、盐度、营养盐、浮游生物现存量和光合作用速率的现场观测 ,研究环绕南极海域表层水叶绿素 a和初级生产力的分布特征。结果表明 ,南大洋表层水营养物质、浮游生物现存量和初级生产力分布具明显的区域性特征 ,南极辐合带以南的南极水营养盐浓度高于亚南极水和亚热带水。叶绿素 a浓度与营养物质的分布趋势一致 ,南极水、亚南极水和亚热带水的平均叶绿素 a浓度分别为 1 .77、1 .40和 0 .2 1 μg/dm3。在环绕南极的大洋中 ,南大西洋海域营养物质丰富 ,海水最为肥沃 ,叶绿素 a浓度和初级生产力高于南印度洋和德雷克海峡。在短期往返东南极 -西南极 -东南极的航渡观测中 ,由于南极夏季水温的升高 ,陆缘冰融化 ,冰藻释放 ,长城湾至普里兹湾的西 -东向航渡中观测的初级生产力、浮游植物细胞丰度、叶绿素 a浓度和光合作用同化数分别比普里兹湾至长城湾的东 -西向航渡中高 1 45%、1 1 3%、68%和 1 8%。与 1 0年前的观测结果比较 ,南大西洋仍为高生物量和高生产力海区 ;1 999/2 0 0 0  相似文献

Bacterial productivity was measured using 3H-thymidine methods in the Prydz Bay and its adjacent waters in the Southern Ocean during the 16th National Antarctic Research Expedition of China (CHINARE). The results showed that bacterial productivity in our study areas ranged from 4.5 to 191 ngC·dm -3·h -1, with an average of 50.4 ngC·dm -3·h -1. These values were comparable to those reported for the Ross Sea. The mean ratio of bacterial productivity to primary productivity in our study areas was 41%. The general characteristics in the vertical profiles showed a subsurface maximum at most of the stations, which was also consistent with those observed in the other sea areas in the Southern Ocean. The spatial distribution of bacterial productivity and dissolved organic carbon in the surface waters showed that their variations were inversely correlative. The relationship among bacterial productivity, primary productivity and dissolved organic carbon suggested that bacterial productivity in the Prydz Bay and its adjacent water was influenced mostly by phytoplankton activities and the hydrologic conditions.  相似文献

河南是农业大省,粮食产量居全国首位,但全省粮食产量区域差异比较明显,豫东平原、豫北山前平原、南阳盆地为主要产粮区,而西部山区粮食生产力低下。农用地质量的优劣直接决定着粮食产量的高低,而作物的生产潜力和现实生产力影响着农用地质量的好坏。一般来说,作物生产潜力空间分布具有明显的南北纬度地带渐变规律,现实生产力则是在土地的自然属性融入社会经济因素而导致的土地投入和利用上的差异。文章以小麦为例,主要从潜在生产力和现实生产力2个方面阐述了造成小麦产量区域差异的原因并分析了它们对农用地分等产生的影响。  相似文献

本文阐述了在中国第 1 6次南极科学考察期间 ( 1 999/ 2 0 0 0南半球夏季 )运用3H 胸腺嘧啶核苷示踪法研究南极普里兹湾及其邻近海域细菌生产力的分布特征。结果表明 :该海区细菌生产力比较低 ,变化范围在 4.5- 1 91ngC·dm- 3·h- 1 ,平均为 5 0 .4ngC·dm- 3·h- 1 ,其水平与Ross海相当。细菌生产力的变化较好地反映了浮游植物变化的特性 ,BP与PP的比值为 0 .41。表层水体中BP与DOC的分布特征呈反相关关系。普里兹湾及邻近海域细菌生产力、初级生产力及溶解有机碳之间的关系表明 ,细菌的活动受浮游植物活跃程度及其它环境条件的影响  相似文献

本文报道了 1 990 /1 991年夏季在南极普里兹湾及其毗连海域对浮游植物细胞丰度 ,优势种类组成 ,粒度分级生物量和初级生产力和颗粒有机碳浓度的分布及其与环境因子关系的研究。结果表明 ,调查海区具有显著的空间区域化特征 ,普里兹湾及其毗连陆架由于水体较为稳定 ,有利于浮游植物和冰藻的生长 ,其生物量、生产力和颗粒有机碳均较高 ;在普里兹湾北部毗连南印度洋的近南极大陆海域 ,由于水团沿陆坡的扭曲运动和上升流的出现 ,致使西冰架和谢克尔顿冰架之间的北部区域浮游植物生物量 ,生产力和颗粒有机碳均较高。由于浮游植物的大量繁殖 ,使该二区域营养盐浓度降低 ,溶解氧增加。在调查海区的东西两侧则相反。粒度分级结果表明 ,微型 (<2 0 μm)和微微型 (<2 .0 μm)浮游生物在浮游植物群落生物量和生产力中占有重要比重 ,它们对总生物量和总生产力的平均贡献分别为 5 3 %和 6 9%。  相似文献

The majority of the arctic waters are only seasonally ice covered; the northern Barents Sea, where freezing starts at 80 to 81°N in September, is one such area. In March, the ice cover reaches its greatest extension (74-75°N). Melting is particularly rapid in June and July, and by August the Barents Sea may be ice free. The pelagic productive season is rather short, 3 to 3.5 months in the northern part of the Barents Sea (north of the Polar Front, 75°N), and is able to sustain an open water production during only half of this time when a substantial part of the area is free of ice. Ice algal production starts in March and terminates during the rapid melting season in June and July, thus equalling the pelagic production season in duration.
This paper presents the first in situ measurements of both pelagic and ice-related production in the northern Barents Sea: pelagic production in summer after melting has started and more open water has become accessible, and ice production in spring before the ice cover melts. Judged by the developmental stage of the plankton populations, the northern Barents Sea consists of several sub-areas with different phytoplankton situations. Estimates of both daily and annual carbon production have been based on in situ measurements. Although there are few sampling stations (6 phytoplankton stations and 8 ice-algae stations), the measurements represent both pelagic bloom and non-bloom conditions and ice algal day and night production. The annual production in ice was estimated to 5.3 g Cm-2, compared to the pelagic production of 25 to 30 g Cm-2 south of Kvitøya and 12 to 15 g Cm-2 further north. According to these estimates ice production thus constitutes 16% to 22% of the total primary production of the northern Barents Sea, depending on the extent of ice-free areas.  相似文献

普里兹湾是南大洋碳循环研究典型代表海区,也是中国历次南大洋考察的重点调查区域。从初级生产力、营养盐、叶绿素、海-气CO2通量、真光层颗粒有机碳(POC)输出通量,净群落生产力(NCP)等方面综合阐述了其碳循环特征。生物泵运转效率和海冰过程是碳吸收的主要控制因素。普里兹湾总体上可以从陆坡划界,分为湾内和湾外两大部分。两者碳循环特征差异显著。湾内碳循环过程活跃,是南大洋夏季的高生产力区域。湾外则表现出高营养盐、低叶绿素(HNLC)特征,初步认为存在Fe限制。总体上,溶解有机碳(DOC)、POC、营养盐、叶绿素、二氧化碳分压(pCO2)等存在从湾内向湾外随纬度递增或递减的规律。海冰消长对碳循环过程影响剧烈。夏季融冰造成的冰藻释放、水体垂直稳定性增加是提高生物生产力的首要原因。总体上普里兹湾的碳循环受各种生物、物理过程及其耦合作用控制,对南大洋碳循环机制研究有重要意义。  相似文献

菲尔德斯半岛潮间带食物链是较简单的 ,一般说来在不利环境条件下的生物群落只有很少的消费者和较少的营养级。食物链中主要的生产者是大型底栖藻类 ,主要消费者是腹足类和石鳖 ,棘皮动物中的海胆与海星 ,甲壳动物 ,鱼和海鸟 ,海鸟和鱼占营养级的上层 ,草食软体动物位于中间营养级 ,大量的固着藻类 -叶状藻类、皮壳状藻类构成营养级的底层。观测实验表明 :(1 )海鸟和鱼类减少了草食性软体动物和肉食性螺类的数量 ;(2 )肉食性腹足类减少了草食性软体动物和固着无脊椎动物的数量 ;(3 )草食性软体动物减少了叶状藻类的数量并影响到皮壳状藻类的数量 ,在不清除消费者的实验中 ,皮壳状藻类显示出与其它固着生物竞争空间的优势。作者观察了并在本文中描述了异性底质与消费者对固着生物多样性的影响。壳状藻类在低潮带岩石表面占优势 ,其它的固着生物 (叶状藻类与固着无脊椎动物 )占据洞穴和狭缝。同质岩石表面固着生物的种类与数量低于异质性的岩石表面。清除岩石表面的消费者后叶状藻类与其它固着无脊椎动物的种数就超过皮壳状藻类  相似文献

南极海洋硅藻作为海洋食物网的基石,在南大洋生态系统中扮演着至关重要的角色。南极海洋硅藻具有极端生境适应性,是生物抗辐射性、抗冻性和抗盐性研究的理想实验材料。综述了近30年来国内外有关南极海洋硅藻对强辐射、低温、高盐和低光照的光合适应性研究进展,表明其在长期的极端生境中,形成独特的生理、生化、遗传和代谢特征,相关研究为深入开展南极海洋硅藻的抗逆境研究和开发利用提供了重要参考依据。  相似文献

以黄土高原丘陵沟壑区典型小流域纸坊沟为案例,应用能值方法研究其植物初级生产力、动物次级生产力、农户经济生产力及生态系统服务生产力能值的特征及相互间的关系。结果表明:纸坊沟流域经过20年的治理,初级生产力水平有了明显提高,林草植被得到了一定恢复,巨大的生态系统服务为农业系统生产力的形成创造了基础。但整个流域依然处于低能值投入度、低耦合度、低能效的状态。主要表现为农林牧子系统之间耦合效应仍不明显;动物次级生产能值水平较低,初级生产的产品能值不能高效转化为动物次级生产能值;农户产业结构的不合理性,导致农业系统产品能值的潜在经济价值向农户现实经济收入的转化能力低下,因此,调整农户种植结构及产业配置是促进系统生产力高效转化的内在需求。  相似文献

利用南极磷虾渔业科学观察员收集的南极磷虾生物学数据,在将研究区域划分成60'×30'精细尺度单元的基础上,分析了南奥克尼群岛南极磷虾种群捕捞群体年龄结构的时空变化。结果表明,2009/2010年度,南极磷虾体长范围为33.2—69.0 mm,平均体长为51.8 mm,优势体长组为52—60 mm(52.3%),另在44—48 mm有一个次峰区;2010/2011年度,体长范围为22.9—59.3 mm,平均体长为44.5 mm,优势体长组为42—50 mm(56.8%);2011/2012年度,体长范围为18.5—59.4 mm,平均体长为41.7 mm,优势体长组为36—46 mm(67.3%)。三个年度间南极磷虾体长频次分布呈显著性差异(p0.001),且不具相似性(PSI=41.25—73.42)。2009/2010—2011/2012年度各旬别磷虾体长组可分成3个组,其中2011年2月上旬和2012年3月中旬可划分为一组,2010年1月下旬至2月中旬以及2011年2月中旬可归为一组,这几个体长组均呈双峰分布,其他的体长组划归为一组。1+和2+龄虾大多出现在离南奥克尼群岛最近的水域,而离南奥克尼群岛较远的单元中则多为4+龄以上的磷虾个体。  相似文献

Solander Basin is characterized by subduction initiation at the Pacific‐Australia plate boundary, where high biological productivity is found at the northern edge of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Sedimentary architecture results from tectonic influences on accommodation space, sediment supply and ocean currents (via physiography); and climate influence on ocean currents and biological productivity. We present the first seismic‐stratigraphic analysis of Solander Basin based on high‐fold seismic‐reflection data (voyage MGL1803, SISIE). Solander Trough physiography formed by Eocene rifting, but basinal strata are mostly younger than ca. 17 Ma, when we infer Puysegur Ridge formed and sheltered Solander Basin from bottom currents, and mountain growth onshore increased sediment supply. Initial inversion on the Tauru Fault started at ca. 15 Ma, but reverse faulting from 12 to ca. 8 Ma on both the Tauru and Parara Faults was likely associated with reorganization and formation of the subduction thrust. The new seabed topography forced sediment pathways to become channelized at low points or antecedent gorges. Since 5 Ma, southern Puysegur Ridge and Fiordland mountains spread out towards the east and Solander Anticline grew in response to ongoing subduction and growth of a slab. Solander Basin had high sedimentation rates because (1) it is sheltered from bottom currents by Puysegur Ridge; and (2) it has a mountainous land area that supplies sediment to its northern end. Sedimentary architecture is asymmetric due to the Subtropical Front, which moves pelagic and hemi‐pelagic sediment, including dilute parts of gravity flows, eastward and accretes contourites to the shelf south of Stewart Island. Levees, scours, drifts and ridges of folded sediment characterize western Solander Basin, whereas hemi‐pelagic drape and secondary gravity flows are found east of the meandering axial Solander Channel. The high‐resolution record of climate and tectonics that Solander Basin contains may yield excellent sites for future scientific ocean drilling.  相似文献

运用NCAR/CAM3全球大气环流模式,结合气候学诊断方法,分析了南极海冰涛动异常对南半球降水的影响,并对可能的作用机理进行了初步探讨。结果表明,南半球中纬度降水对海冰涛动异常的响应较为显著,且异常响应的空间分布与海冰涛动类似,分别在南美洲大陆以东大西洋和以西太平洋的广阔海域上存在两个正负值中心。 数值模拟结果显示,海冰涛动异常可以通过改变地表热通量,影响对流层中层大气,进而驱动费莱尔环流的上升支,加强或减弱费莱尔环流的强度,最终对南半球中纬度地区的降水分布产生影响。在阿蒙森/别林斯高晋海外围海冰异常偏少的海域,向上的热通量增加,局地加热会使得费莱尔环流的上升支异常偏强,费莱尔环流的经向输送增强,对应其在中低纬的下沉支也偏强,局地下沉气流异常偏强则会抑制降水的生成,导致降水异常偏少。在威德尔海外围海冰异常偏多的海域,经向环流和降水的响应几乎相反,但因受西南极半岛和南美洲陆面作用的影响,对应经度带费莱尔环流对海冰异常的响应较弱。  相似文献

This article describes the development of an international and multidisciplinary project funded by the Spanish Polar Programme on Byers Peninsula (Livingston Island, South Shetlands). The project adopted Byers Peninsula as an international reference site for coastal and terrestrial (including inland waters) research within the framework of the International Polar Year initiative. Over 30 scientists from 12 countries and 26 institutions participated in the field work, and many others participated in the processing of the samples. The main themes investigated were: Holocene changes in climate, using both lacustrine sediment cores and palaeo-nests of penguins; limnology of the lakes, ponds, rivers and wetlands; microbiology of microbial mats, ecology of microbial food webs and viral effects on aquatic ecosystems; ornithology, with investigations on a Gentoo penguin rookery (Pygoscelis papua) as well as the flying ornithofauna; biocomplexity and life cycles of species from different taxonomic groups; analysis of a complete watershed unit from a landscape perspective; and human impacts, specifically the effect of trampling on soil characteristics and biota.Byers Peninsula offers many features as an international reference site given it is one of the largest ice-free areas in the Antarctic Peninsula region, it has a variety of different landscape units, and it hosts diverse aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, the Byers Peninsula is a hotspot for Antarctic biodiversity, and because of its high level of environmental protection, it has been very little affected by human activities. Finally, the proximity to the Spanish polar installations on Livingston Island and the experience derived from previous expeditions to the site make it logistically feasible as a site for ongoing monitoring and research.  相似文献

作为海洋中最丰富的有机含硫化合物之一,二甲基巯基丙酸内盐(DMSP)不仅在浮游植物细胞内具有重要的生理生化及生态功能,同时也是海洋微生物的重要营养物,其分解产物二甲基硫(DMS)还是海洋中最重要的还原态挥发性生源有机硫化物,因此DMSP的代谢在全球硫循环中扮演着重要角色。细菌可通过脱甲基与裂解这两条途径降解海水中的DMSP,从而决定硫元素是以含硫蛋白形式进入微生物食物网还是以DMS形式进入大气。截至目前,在高纬度北极海域开展的有关细菌降解DMSP的相关研究报道很少。本文采用荧光定量PCR技术,首次对北极王湾夏季(2015及2016年)海水中涉及细菌降解DMSP的两条主要代谢途径中的脱甲基酶基因dmdA及裂解酶基因dddP的丰度及分布进行了检测。结果显示, 2015—2016年海水中DMSP降解酶基因(dmdA、dddP)与细菌16S rRNA基因的丰度比值的平均值分别为0.25%±0.31%、0.32%±0.58%。2015年水样中,除K5站位的dddP基因之外,表层水中dmdA及dddP的丰度相对值从湾口至湾内均呈递增趋势。但2016年的结果却显示出很大差异:湾口附近dmdA基因丰度相对值总体高于湾内;表层水中的dddP基因丰度相对值变化趋势不明显,而深层水中dddP基因丰度相对值从湾口到湾内总体呈递减趋势。本次研究的结果初步表明,含有DMSP降解基因的浮游细菌在王湾夏季水体中丰度很低,而且参与不同代谢途径的DMSP降解菌在海水中的时空分布存在很大变化。对于王湾水域中细菌参与DMSP分解代谢及其在当地硫元素循环中的生态地位的进一步认识,尚待后续研究工作的深入开展。  相似文献

With the recognition that global climate change may adversely affect human health, there has been an increase in relevant research worldwide. In the Antarctic medical research has been largely directed at the potential health effects of stratospheric ozone depletion. For over a decade continuous broad-band measurements of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) have been made at all Australian stations. Results of UV measurements are presented and comparisons made with the "ozone hole" moving over the stations, erythemal UVR increasing by a factor of more than 2.5 over a three day period. During late spring and despite the large difference in latitude, Davis, Antarctica, and Melbourne, Australia, are very similar in erythemal UVR. Antarctic immunological and photobiological research is presented and the role of UVR discussed. Epidemiological data is reviewed for short-term links between UVR and related disease. With increased awareness of the dangers of UVR and consequent changes in sun-related behaviour, the incidence of the acute effects of UVR is much lower than decades ago. As the itinerant Antarctic population spends a maximum of 12-1 8 months at a time in that location it is an excellent control group for studies on the health effects of UVR on permanent populations at similar latitudes in the Arctic.  相似文献
