We have investigated the evolutionary behaviour of intermediate mass (2, 3, 4, 5, and 7M ) Population I stars, assuming two different rates of rotation at the threshold of stability.In the first part of the study, stars are assumed to start with a critical rotation (fast rotation model) and to progress to the point of rotational instability. The stars evolve by losing mass and become rotationally unstable before they reach the zero-age Main Sequence. It is argued that multiple star systems might be formed through the evolution of rapidly rotating stars. An expression for the rotational mass loss rate is derived as a function of the physical parameters of stars.In the second part of the study, stars are assumed to rotate at a rate below the critical value (slow rotation model). The evolution of slowly rotating stars is followed as far as zero-age Main Sequence on the theoretical Hertzsprung-Russell diagram and compared with that of normal stars. The evolutionary paths are found to be more or less similar to those of normal stars; but their positions on the Main Sequence are characterized by effective temperatures and luminosities lower than those of normal stars. The zero-age Main-Sequence times of these stars are longer than those of normal stars. The rotational rates obtained for the zero-age Main Sequence are in good agreement with observed values.  相似文献

Generalized and interconsistent approximation formulas are derived to describe the relationship between the hydrogen-burning time and the zero-age stellar mass for the mass and elemental composition ranges characteristic of stars that have been formed during the lifetime of the universe. The maximum masses of population I stars are estimated based on the known statistical relationships among stellar characteristics that agree with observational data.  相似文献

We discuss the effects of convective overshooting in the pre-main-sequence (PMS) evolution of intermediate-mass stars, by analysing in detail the early evolution towards the main sequence of a  2 M  stellar model. These effects can be extremely important in the end of the PMS, when the abundances in CNO elements approach the equilibrium in the centre. We provide a possible physical explanation on why a moderate amount of overshooting produces, as the star approaches the zero-age main-sequence, an extra loop in the evolutionary tracks on the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram.
An interesting feature is that there is a very well defined amount of overshooting (for a given stellar mass and chemical composition) beyond which a loop is produced. For smaller amounts of overshooting such a loop does not take place and the evolutionary tracks are similar to those found in the literature. The amount of overshooting needed to produce the loop decreases with stellar mass.
We discuss the underlining physical reasons for the behaviour predicted by the evolution models and argue that it provides a crucial observational test for convective overshooting in the core of intermediate-mass stars.  相似文献

This is a review of close binary systems with very early spectral types (B, O, Of, and WR stars). We limit our selection to systems with Roche model photometric solution only. There are 10 contact systems known at present. Three of them (V701 Sco, BH Cen, and RZ Pyx) are located in the vicinity of the zero-age contact (ZC) according to a Spectral Type — Period diagram. Only the first two systems have absolute dimensions available. Both of these fall into the ZC zone in the logP-logm diagram and the logm-logR diagram. The system TU Mus was thought to be a ZC system is located in the evolved contact zone (EC) in the above diagrams. Both V701 Sco and BH Cen were thought to be having mass ratios about unity. With the much improved light curves of BH Cen and new analysis the mass ratio has been revised to 0.84! This result may favor Shu's model for early-type zero-age contact systems. The evolved systems might be undergone Case A mass exchange except for two systems (V729 Cyg and RY Sct) which might be from Case B. The systems V367 Cyg was classified by Plavec as a W Ser system may be a evolved contact system.It is interesting to note that V729 Cyg (O7f+OfIa), UW CMa(O7f+O) and CQ Cep(WN7+O) are all highly evolved contact systems. The Max II of UW CMa and CQ Cep are displaced to 0.78 and 0.80 phase, respectively. The displacement for V729 Cyg is not known due to poor coverage at this phase. The most distinct feature going from Of to Wolf-Rayet stars is the increasing domination of emission lines. It is suspected that this phaseshifts reflect the increasing activity of mass-flow in the common envelope.There are 8 semidetached systems with reliable absolute dimensions. This paper is the next one in the series of our works aimed at determining the atmospheric parameters and chemical composition of southern-hemisphere Cepheids. We present the results of our study for six bright Cepheids: V Cen, V737 Cen, BB Sgr, W Sgr, X Sgr, and Y Sgr. We have analyzed 14 high-resolution spectra taken with the 1.9-m telescope at the South African Astronomical Observatory. In addition to determining the chemical composition and atmospheric parameters, we point out and discuss several features in the spectra of individual Cepheids. In particular,we have detected emission in the cores of the Hβ and Hα lines forWSgr near its maximum light, while X Sgr shows the splitting of metal absorption lines into individual components without any change of the hydrogen lines. These peculiarities can be explained by different manifestations of shock waves in the Cepheid atmospheres and by the presence of circumstellar envelopes around X Sgr and W Sgr. The chemical composition has been estimated for V737 Cen, BB Sgr, and X Sgr for the first time. On the whole, our abundance estimates for α-elements, iron-peak elements, and r- and s-process elements are close to the solar ones for all objects, carbon is underabundant, the oxygen abundance is nearly solar, the “odd” elements, Na and Al, are overabundant (except X Sgr), magnesium is underabundant for V Cen and X Sgr and overabundant for the remaining objects. Abstract The source crater of the youngest and largest of the tektite strewnfields, the Australasian strewnfield, has not been located. A number of lines of evidence indicate that the Muong Nong-type tektites, primarily found in Indochina, are more primitive than the much more abundant and widespread splash-form tektites, and are proximal to the source. In this study the spatial distribution of Muong Nong-type tektite sites and chemical character have been used to indicate the approximate location of the source. The variation of Muong Nong-type tektite chemical composition appears to be caused by mixing of two silicate rock end-members and a small amount of limestone, and not by vapor fractionation. The variation in composition is not random, and does not support in-situ melting or multiple impact theories. The distribution of both Muong Nong and splash-form tektite sites suggest the source is in a limited area near the southern part of the Thailand-Laos border.  相似文献

Theoretical models are calculated for 15 planetary nebulae of medium-to-high excitation, following procedures previously described. Initial stellar energy distributions are adopted from Cassinelli (1971), but are subsequently modified to obtain the best representation of optical spectra for the selected objects. Other adjustable parameters include the stellar radius,R (*), the nebular density,N H, the truncation radius,r c, for the nebular shell, and the chemical composition. Excitationsensitive ratios are usually well-represented as are the actual observed intensities of spectral lines. Forbidden lines arising from 3p 3 configurations, e.g., those of [SII], [ArIV], and [ClIII] offer difficulties. For this sample of nebulae, the mean abundances seem to agree well with those found in an earlier study where the models were used as interpolation devices (Aller, 1978). Our objective is not to use the models to derive abundances explicitly, but rather to use them to find ionization correction factors. Some cautions and limitations of this procedure are described.  相似文献

The influence of internal rotation on the evolution of a 0.85M star is investigated by the construction of model sequences. Rotation is treated by a simple one-dimensional approximation. The calculations assume solid-body rotation on the zero-age Main Sequence, followed by conservation of angular momentum in shells. The 4 cases considered have the initial angular velocities 0,2×10–4, 6×10–4, and 8×10–4/sec. All cases but the last are followed to helium ignition. Compared with the non-rotating case, the rotating models are older at Main-Sequence turnoff, develop fast-spinning central regions on the red-giant branch, and ignite helium at higher surface luminosities and at larger helium-core masses. The increases in the last two quantities are roughly proportional to the square of the initial angular velocity.The 6×10–4 case is followed through the helium core flash to the zero-age horizontal branch. Under the assumption of spherical symmetry, the non-central ignition of helium leads to a sequence of flashes of decreasing amplitude occurring progressively closer to the center. The flashes are weaker than those encountered in previous studies and do not produce mixing.  相似文献

UBV light curves of AO Cam were analyzed with Wilson and Devinney's model. The system was found to be a contact configuration with a degree of overcontact of 1.4%. The mass ratio of the system is about 1.30, and the inclination is 75 . 0 9. The primary eclipse appears to be an occultation. Thus AO Cam has the characteristics of a W-type W UMa system. Its location in a period-spectral type diagram suggests that the system may be a zero-age contact system.  相似文献

The models of non-rotating and rotating 2.31M \ stars of Population I composition have been calculated, starting at the threshold of stability. A 2.31M \ star was chosen to compare the results with the observational parameters of the primary component of the well-known detached binary YZ Cassiopeiae. The effects of rotation on the internal structure during the evolution of the star were studied by constructing sequences of axisymmetric rotating models under the assumption that angular momentum was conserved according to a predetermined angular velocity distribution depending on the structure of the star.The first section of this paper deals with effects of rotation on the evolutionary behaviours of the 2.31M \ star through the pre-Main-Sequence evolution as well as the zero-age Main Sequence.In the second section of this paper, the evolutionary studies have been extended up to near-hydrogen exhaustion phase in order to obtain a theoretical model corresponding to the given mass and radius of the primary component of YZ Cassiopeiae. The theoretical models were found to be in a good agreement with observational parameters. The computed rotating models of the primary of YZ Cassiopeiae indicates that its evolutionary age is 6.01×108 years; and the central hydrogen content 0.183 — which means that about 75% of its original value was depleted.  相似文献

Sets of theoretical models of spherically symmetrical gaseous nebulae are calculated for a fixed chemical composition and with central star, energy distributions given by Cassinelli (1971) and by Kunasz, Mihalas and Hummer (1975). A central region of constant densityN H=100 cm–3 is surrounded by a broken shell consisting of zones of different density and optical thickness. It is found that for a fixed chemical composition and central star flux, a considerable range can be found in the emitted fluxes of certain lines such as 4686 which are often used to fix the level of excitation of a nebula. Although it is possible to produce models yielding a variety of nebular line ratios in this way, these truncated inhomogeneous shell models have not reproduced the integrated spectra of nebulae that simultaneously show extreme features of high and low excitation with great strength-e.g. [Nii], [Oii] and 4686 Heii.  相似文献

We have analyzed a sample of 74 magnetically active stars toward the Taurus-Auriga starforming region. Based on accurate data on their basic physical parameters obtained from original photometric observations and published data on their proper motions, X-ray luminosities, and equivalent widths of the Hα and Li lines, we have refined the evolutionary status of these objects. We show that 50 objects are young stars with ages of 1–40 Myr and belong to the Taurus-Auriga star-forming region. Other 20 objects have a controversial evolutionary status and can belong to both Taurus-Auriga starforming region and the Gould Belt. The remaining four objects with ages of 70–100 Myr belong to the zero-age main sequence. We have analyzed the relationship between the rotation period, mass, and age for 50 magnetically active stars. The change in the angular momentum of the sample stars within the first 40 Myr of their evolution has been investigated. An active star-protoplanetary disk interaction is shown to occur on a time scale from 0.7 to 10Myr.  相似文献

We determine the atmospheric parameters of the secondary in the close binary system FF Aqr and analyze its chemical composition. A series of high-resolution spectra are taken at different orbital phases using the coude echelle spectrometer of the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT150). We show that the absorption line intensity of heavy elements varies with phase due to the spotty nature of the cool component. We determine the abundances of heavy elements in the star’s atmosphere by modelling the synthetic spectra and performing a differential analysis of the chemical composition of FF Aqr relative to the solar composition. Our analysis of the averaged spectrum of FF Aqr yielded 539 abundance estimates for 21 chemical elements. We found the metallicity of the star ([Fe/H] = −0.11 ± 0.08) to be close solar, in agreement with the hypothesis that FF Aqr should belong to the Galactic disk. The inferred chemical composition of the objects exhibits no anomalous abundances of the α-, r-, and s-process elements like those earlier found in other systems (IN Com, LW Hya, V471 Tau). The lack of such anomalies in FF Aqr must be due to the fact that the elements heavier than 16 O cannot be synthesized in the core of the primary during the last stages of its evolution.  相似文献

We present high-resolution optical echelle spectroscopy for a large fraction of the Li-rich late-type stars recently discovered in the vicinity of the Lupus dark clouds. Our results confirm the high Li  i   λ 6708 equivalent widths previously estimated from medium-resolution spectra, thus adding strength to the conclusion that the large majority of these stars are still in the pre-main-sequence phase of their evolution, contrary to claims from other authors that many of them might be zero-age main-sequence stars. We present a statistical approach to derive a mean distance for the sample, and find that it is consistent with, or slightly lower than, the Hipparcos distance of the Lupus star-forming region. The radial velocities measured for part of these stars are consistent with those observed for the Lupus star-forming region, while stars outside the dark clouds show a mean difference of the order of 3 km s−1. The projected rotational velocities show a lack of slow rotators, which is interpreted as a consequence of the X-ray selection of the sample. The Li-rich stars in Lupus studied in this work yield a fairly 'clean' sample of very young stars, while in other star-forming regions a larger fraction of older zero-age main-sequence stars has been found among ROSAT -discovered Li-rich stars. We argue that this fact reflects the relation of these stars with the Gould Belt.  相似文献

The evolutionary behaviour of rotating low-mass stars in the mass range 0.2 and 0.9M has been investigated during the pre-Main-Sequence phase. The angular momentum is conserved locally in radiative regions and totally in convective regions, according to a predetermined angular velocity distribution depending on the structure of the star. As the stars contract toward the zero-age Main Sequence, they spin up under the assumption that the angular momentum is conserved during the evolution of the stars. When the stars have differential rotations, their inner regions rotate faster than the outer regions. The effective temperatures and luminosities of rotating low-mass stars are obtained lower than those of non-rotating stars. They have lower central temperature and density values compared to those of non-rotating stars.  相似文献

Based on the observed energy curves of nine Ap stars, three Am stars, four normal A stars and one F0 V magnetic star, their radii have been estimated.Thence, the bolometric magnitudesM bo1 have been obtained and a plot between logT e andM bo1 of these stars shows that a majority of Ap and Am stars are a little above the zero-age Main-Sequence, suggesting that they are slightly more evolved as compared to the normal A stars.The bolometric corrections derived from the aboveM bo1 are much closer to those computed by Mihalas than to the ones given by Davis and Webb, the latter being about O m 1 more negative than the former.  相似文献

The available literature on sources, chemical composition, and importance of dust particles for the origins of life is analyzed. The most abundant sources of dust on the early terrestrial planets are sedimentation of interplanetary dust, meteoritic/cometary impacts, and volcanic eruptions. Interplanetary dust can originate directly from interstellar space, from evaporation of cometary bodies, from collisional destruction of asteroidal and meteoritic bodies, and nucleation in sunspots. Many rather complex organic species, including those of prebiotic interest, have been identified in the interstellar medium and cometary dust. Some of them are believed to formvia catalytic processes on the surfaces of dust particles. However, the mechanisms are not known, and even simulating experiments are difficult to perform due to insufficient knowledge of physical conditions in the space media and of chemical composition and properties of the dust. Besides the catalytic roles, cometary dust is believed to be the best delivery vehicle for organic matter of space origin to the atmospheres of terrestrial planets. Abundant sources of catalytically active fine dust can be volcanoes. Various organic and biological compounds have been found in terrestrial volcanic gases and ash, which are assumed to formvia the catalytic Fischer-Tropsch reactions. At present the eruptions on the Earth provide a unique opportunity to observein situ the formation of organic matter, and knowledge of the ash composition and local conditions allows to perform simulating experiments.  相似文献

The present work is a review of papers related to the theory of prominence radiation. Special attention is paid to stationary equations and the theory of radiation diffusion in the lines and continua of hydrogen, helium and metals.We conclude that prominences are low-temperature formations T e 7000 K, of low density 1012 particles per cm3, n e 1011 cm–3, effective thickness 109 cm, and that the chemical composition of prominences and that of the Sun's atmosphere are the same. The prominence radiation in the lines of hydrogen, helium and metals is due mainly to quasiresonance scattering of the photospheric radiation.  相似文献

Observations of the stellar content of the bulge of the Milky Way can provide critical guidelines for the interpretation of observations of distant galaxies, in particular for understanding their stellar content and evolution. In this brief overview I will first highlight some recent work directed towards measuring the history of star formation and the chemical composition of the central few parsecs of the Galaxy. These observations point to an episodic history of star formation in the central region with several bursts having occurred over the past few 100 Myr (e.g. Blum et al., 1996b). High resolution spectroscopic observations by Ramírez et al. (1998) of luminous M stars in this region yield a near solar value for [Fe/H] from direct measurements of iron lines. Then I will present some results from an ongoing program by my colleagues and myself the objective of which is the delineation of the star formation and chemical enrichment histories of the central 100 parsecs of the Galaxy, the `inner bulge'. From new photometric data we have concluded that there is a small increase in mean [Fe/H] from Baade's Window to the Galactic Center and deduce a near solar value for stars in the central region. For radial distances greater than 1° from the Galactic Center we fail to find a measurable population of stars that are significantly younger than those in Baade's Window. Within 1° we find a number of luminous M giants that most likely are the result of a star formation episode not more than one or two Gyr ago.
