The present paper considers resonant slow waves in 1D non-uniform magnetic flux tubes in dissipative MHD. Analytical solutions are obtained for the Lagrangian displacement and the Eulerian perturbation of the total pressure for both static and stationary equilibrium states. From these analytical solutions we obtain the fundamental conservation law and the jump conditions for resonant slow waves in dissipative MHD. The validity of the ideal conservation law and jump conditions obtained by Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg (1991) for static equilibria and Goossens, Hollweg, and Sakurai (1992) for stationary equilibria is justified in dissipative MHD.  相似文献

Resonant absorption of fast magnetoacoustic (FMA) waves in an inhomogeneous, weakly dissipative, one-dimensional planar, strongly anisotropic and dispersive plasma is investigated. The magnetic configuration consists of an inhomogeneous magnetic slab sandwiched between two regions of semi-infinite homogeneous magnetic plasmas. Laterally driven FMA waves penetrate the inhomogeneous slab interacting with the localised slow or Alfvén waves present in the inhomogeneous layer and are partly reflected, dissipated and transmitted by this region. The presented research aims to find the coefficient of wave energy absorption under solar chromospheric and coronal conditions. Numerical results are analysed to find the coefficient of wave energy absorption at both the slow and Alfvén resonance positions. The mathematical derivations are based on the two simplifying assumptions that i) nonlinearity is weak, and ii) the thickness of the inhomogeneous layer is small in comparison to the wavelength of the wave, i.e. we employ the so-called long wavelength approximation. Slow resonance is found to be described by the nonlinear theory, while the dynamics at the Alvén resonance can be described within the linear framework. We introduce a new concept of coupled resonances, which occurs when two different resonances are in close proximity to each other, causing the incoming wave to act as though it has been influenced by the two resonances simultaneously. Our results show that the wave energy absorption is heavily dependent on the angle of the incident wave in combination with the inclination angle of the equilibrium magnetic field. In addition, it is found that FMA waves are very efficiently absorbed at the Alvén resonance under coronal conditions. Under chromospheric conditions the FMA waves are far less efficiently absorbed, despite an increase in efficiency due to the coupled resonances.  相似文献

Oscillations of magnetic flux tubes are of great importance as they contain information about the geometry and fine structure of the flux tubes. Here we derive and analytically solve in terms of Kummer’s functions the linear governing equations of wave propagation for sausage surface and body modes (m=0) of a magnetically twisted compressible flux tube embedded in a compressible uniformly magnetized plasma environment in cylindrical geometry. A general dispersion relation is obtained for such flux tubes. Numerical solutions for the phase velocity are obtained for a wide range of wavenumbers and for varying magnetic twist. The effect of magnetic twist on the period of oscillations of sausage surface modes for different values of the wavenumber and vertical magnetic field strength is calculated for representative photospheric and coronal conditions. These results generalize and extend previous studies of MHD waves obtained for incompressible or for compressible but nontwisted flux tubes. It is found that magnetic twist may change the period of sausage surface waves of the order of a few percent when compared to counterparts in straight nontwisted flux tubes. This information will be most relevant when high-resolution observations are used for diagnostic exploration of MHD wave guides in analogy to solar-interior studies by means of global eigenoscillations in helioseismology.  相似文献

This paper considers driven resonant nonlinear slow magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in dissipative steady plasmas. A theory developed by Ruderman, Hollweg, and Goossens (1997) is used and extended to study the effect of steady flows on the nonlinear resonant behaviour of slow MHD waves in slow dissipative layers. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to describe the behaviour of the wave variables in the slow dissipative layer. The nonlinear analogue of the connection formulae for slow MHD waves obtained previously by Goossens, Hollweg, and Sakurai (1992) and Erdélyi (1997) in linear MHD, are derived. The effect of an equilibrium flow results partly in a Doppler shift of the available frequency for slow resonance and partly in the modification of the width of the dissipative layer.  相似文献

Twisted magnetic flux tubes are of considerable interest because of their natural occurrence from the Sun’s interior, throughout the solar atmosphere and interplanetary space up to a wide range of applicabilities to astrophysical plasmas. The aim of the present work is to obtain analytically a dispersion equation of linear wave propagation in twisted incompressible cylindrical magnetic waveguides and find appropriate solutions for surface, body and pseudobody sausage modes (i.e. m = 0) of a twisted magnetic flux tube embedded in an incompressible but also magnetically twisted plasma. Asymptotic solutions are derived in long- and short-wavelength approximations. General solutions of the dispersion equation for intermediate wavelengths are obtained numerically. We found, that in case of a constant, but non-zero azimuthal component of the equilibrium magnetic field outside the flux tube the index ν of Bessel functions in the dispersion relation is not integer any more in general. This gives rise to a rich mode-structure of degenerated magneto-acoustic waves in solar flux tubes. In a particular case of a uniform magnetic twist the total pressure is found to be constant across the boundary of the flux tube. Finally, the effect of magnetic twist on oscillation periods is estimated under solar atmospheric conditions. It was found that a magnetic twist will increase, in general, the periods of waves approximately by a few percent when compared to their untwisted counterparts.  相似文献

Resonantly driven Alfvén waves are studied in non-uniform stationary magnetic flux tubes. Analytic dissipative MHD solutions are obtained for the Lagrangian displacement and the Eulerian perturbation of the total pressure. These analytic solutions are valid in the dissipative layer and in the two overlap regions to the left and the right of the dissipative layer. From these analytic solutions we obtain the fundamental conservation law and the jump conditions for resonantly driven Alfvén waves in magnetic flux tubes with an equilibriun flow. The fundamental conservation law and the jump conditions depend on the equilibrium flow in a more complicated way than just a Doppler shift. The effects of an equlibrium flow are not to be predicted easily in general terms with the exception that the polarization of the driven Alfvén waves is still in the magnetic surfaces and perpendicular to the magnetic field lines as it is in a static flux tube.  相似文献

The present paper extends the analysis by Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg (1991) on resonant Alfvén waves in nonuniform magnetic flux tubes. It proves that the fundamental conservation law for resonant Alfvén waves found in ideal MHD by Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg remains valid in dissipative MHD. This guarantees that the jump conditions of Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg, that connect the ideal MHD solutions for r , andP across the dissipative layer, are correct. In addition, the present paper replaces the complicated dissipative MHD solutions obtained by Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg for r , andP in terms of double integrals of Hankel functions of complex argument of order with compact analytical solutions that allow a straightforward mathematical and physical interpretation. Finally, it presents an analytical dissipative MHD solution for the component of the Lagrangian displacement in the magnetic surfaces perpendicular to the magnetic field lines which enables us to determine the dominant dynamics of resonant Alfvén waves in dissipative MHD.  相似文献

The problem of surface wave propagation on a magnetised cylindrical plasma is investigated allowing for different axial magnetic fields inside and outside the flux tube. Properties of surface waves for symmetric and asymmetric modes of perturbations are investigated idealising the material inside and outside the cylinder to be insulator or infinitely conducting both in compressible and incompressible approximations for the tube material.  相似文献

The hydromagnetic stability of a planar jet moving in an external magnetized plasma is investigated assuming the fluids to be infinitely conducting, compressible plasmas and allowing for different magnetic field strengths and their different relative orientation within and outside the jet. Numerical results on growth rates of unstable modes are obtained both for kink and sausage perturbations for an incompressible jet, as also for a compressible jet in the limit of the wide and slender jet approximations.  相似文献

The problem of wave-propagation in a magnetically structured compressible slab configuration is investigated, allowing for different magnetic field strengths inside and outside the slab and also a general orientation of the field vectors relative to each other and to the propagation vector. Several magnetic field geometries such as equal parallel, and equal orthogonal fields are considered. Properties of body and surface waves both for symmetric and asymmetric modes of perturbation propagating along and normal to the slab field are investigated idealising the slab to be incompressible, or considering the limiting case of wide and slender compressible slab. Numerical results are also obtained for a compressible slab of finite thickness for a specific choice of sound and Alfvén speeds involved.  相似文献

The mechanism of spatial resonance of Alfven waves for heating a collisionless plasma is studied in the presence of a twisted magnetic field. In addition to modifying the equilibrium condition for a cylindrical plasma, the azimuthal component of the magnetic field gives extra contribution to the energy deposition rate of the Alfven waves. This new term clearly brings out the effects associated with the finite lifetime of the Alfven waves. The theoretical system considered here conforms to the solar coronal regions.  相似文献

Flux pile-up magnetic reconnection is traditionally considered only for incompressible plasmas. The question addressed in this paper is whether the pile-up scalings with resistivity are robust when plasma compressibility is taken into account. A simple analytical argument makes it possible to understand why the transition from a highly compressible limit to the incompressible one is difficult to discern in typical simulations spanning a few decades in resistivity. From a practical standpoint, however, flux pile-up reconnection in a compressible plasma can lead to anomalous electric resistivity in the current sheet and flare-like energy release of magnetic energy in the solar corona.  相似文献

By employing a self-similar, two-fluid MHD model in a cylindrical geometry, we study the features of nonlinear ion-acoustic (IA) waves which propagate in the direction of external magnetic field lines in space plasmas. Numerical calculations not only expose the well-known three shapes of nonlinear structures (sinusoidal, sawtooth, and spiky or bipolar) which are observed by numerous satellites and simulated by models in a Cartesian geometry, but also illustrate new results, such as, two reversely propagating nonlinear waves, density dips and humps, diverging and converging electric shocks, etc. A case study on Cluster satellite data is also introduced.  相似文献

The effect of equilibrium flow on linear Alfvén resonances in coronal loops is studied in the compressible viscous MHD model. By means of a finite element code, the full set of linearised driven MHD equations are solved for a one-dimensional equilibrium model in which the equilibrium quantities depend only on the radial coordinate. Computations of resonant absorption of Alfvén waves for two classes of coronal loop models show that the efficiency of the process of resonant absorption strongly depends on both the equilibrium parameters and the characteristics of the resonant wave. We find that a steady equilibrium shear flow can also significantly influence the resonant absorption of Alfvén waves in coronal magnetic flux tubes. The presence of an equilibrium flow may therefore be important for resonant Alfvén waves and coronal heating. A parametric analysis also shows that the resonant absorption can be strongly enhanced by the equilibrium flow, even up to total dissipation of the incoming wave.  相似文献

The present paper discusses the implementation of the SGHR method (Sakurai, Goossens, and Hollweg, 1991; Goossens, Ruderman, and Hollweg, 1995) in a numerical scheme for determining resonantly driven Alfvén waves in nonuniform magnetic flux tubes. This method is based on jump conditions over the dissipative layer which are obtained from an asymptotic analysis of analytical solutions to simplified versions of the linear non-ideal MHD equations in this dissipative layer. The emphasis is on the computational simplicity and the accuracy of the method. The method derives its computational simplicity from the fact that it circumvents the numerical integration of the non-ideal MHD equations. The implementation only requires the numerical integration of the ideal MHD equations away from the resonant position. There is no need for a special integration scheme and a PC suffices as a hardware tool. The accuracy of the method is verified by means of test computations. These test computations deal with the loss of power of acoustic waves in sunspots by resonant absorption of Alfvén waves. Results for the absorption coefficients obtained with the SGHR method are compared with known results in the literature obtained by integration of the full set of the linearized non-ideal MHD equations. The agreement is excellent and identifies the SGHR method as a powerful and extremely easy to use tool for studying resonant Alfvén waves.  相似文献

The qualityQ of a resonance is defined as the ratio of the total energy contained in the system to the dissipation per driving cycle. Hence, a good quality resonance is one with little losses, i.e., little dissipation per driving cycle. However, for heating coronal plasmas by means of resonant absorption of waves, bad quality resonances are required. Here, the quality of the MHD resonances that occur when an inhomogeneous coronal loop is excited by incident waves is investigated for typical coronal loop parameter values in the frame work of linear, resistive MHD. It is shown that the resonances in coronal loops have bad quality and, hence, yield a lot of Ohmic heating per driving cycle compared to the total energy stored in the loop. As a consequence, the time scales of the heating process are relatively short and resonant absorption turns out to be a viable candidate for the heating of the magnetic loops observed in the solar corona.  相似文献

It is shown that the conclusions arrived at regarding the instability of an incompressible fluid cylinder in the presence of the magnetic field and the streaming velocity in a recent communication easily follow from the study of propagation characteristics of Alfvén surface waves along cylindrical plasma columns made earlier.  相似文献

The effect of large Larmor radius on the nonlinear behaviour of Alfvén waves propagating parallel to a uniform magnetic field in a compressible fluid is investigated with the aid of LLR-MHD equations. It is shown that asymptotic evolution of these waves is governed by the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The dispersion is provided by the large Larmor radius effect in the magnetic field equation. It is suggested that these calculations can have a bearing on the investigation of the structure of MHD waves in both laboratory and space plasmas, e.g., imploding pinches, laser-blow-off plasma experiment, recent barium releases in the magnetosphere, plasma flow near small planetary bodies such as comets and plasma dynamic near collisionless shock fronts.  相似文献

Recent advances in understanding of the basic properties of compressible Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence call for revisions of some of the generally accepted concepts. First, the MHD turbulence is not so messy as it is usually believed. In fact, the notion of strong nonlinear coupling of compressible and incompressible motions is not tenable. Alfven, slow and fast modes of MHD turbulence follow their own cascades and exhibit degrees of anisotropy consistent with theoretical expectations. Second, the fast decay of turbulence is not related to the compressibility of fluid. Rates of decay of compressible and incompressible motions are very similar. Third, the viscosity by neutrals does not suppress MHD turbulence in a partially ionized gas. Instead, MHD turbulence develops magnetic cascade at scales below the scale at which neutrals damp ordinary hydrodynamic motions. The implications of those changes of MHD turbulence paradigm for molecular clouds require further studies. Those studies can benefit from testing of theoretical predictions using new statistical techniques that utilize spectroscopic data. We briefly discuss advances in development of tools using which the statistics of turbulent velocity can be recovered from observations.  相似文献

Three of the well-known jump conditions across hydromagnetic shock waves are reduced to identities for density, vector velocity and scalar speed in terms of the vector magnetic field. Scalar pressure and ion and electron temperature are not made use of. For thermal equilibrium plasmas, these relations may be useful even when no information as to thermal state or degrees of freedom is available. In addition the reduced shock relations may be valid in many non-equilibrium situations. Plasma and field measurements necessary for validating these relations are gradually becoming routine in both laboratory and space experiments.Research supported in part by NASA Grant NsG-283, Office of Space Science and Applications.  相似文献
