The adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions by soda lignin as an absorbent using a batch adsorption system is presented in this paper. The soda lignin used in this study was extracted from black liquor derived from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) using 20% v/v sulfuric acid. The effects of varying experimental parameters such as pH value, adsorbent dosage, different concentrations of Cu(II) ions, and agitation period were investigated. The results revealed that the optimum adsorption of Cu(II) onto soda lignin was recorded at a pH of 5.0 at an adsorbent dosage of 0.5 g soda lignin and an agitation period of 40 min. The adsorption capacities and rates of Cu(II) ions onto soda lignin was evaluated. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to calculate the isotherm constants. It was found that the adsorption isothermal data could be well interpreted by the Freundlich model. The kinetic experimental data properly correlated with the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model, which implies that chemical sorption is the rate‐limiting step.  相似文献

Sedimentary pigments are useful proxy indicators of phytoplankton biomass, community structure, primary productivity and human influence in lacustrine and oceanic ecosystems. Pigments are relatively labile due to their complex chemical structures, which makes the extraction and analysis of sedimentary pigments challenging. In addition, it is important to select appropriate methods to study sedimentary pigments in regions which lack previous investigations. In this study, we adopted the L_9(3~4) orthogonal design to develop methods of extraction and HPLC(high performance liquid chromatography) analysis of sedimentary pigments at two lakes on the Tibetan Plateau: meromictic lake-Dagze Co and dimictic lake-Jiang Co. The orthogonal design comprises 9 combinations of various parameters for extraction and HPLC analysis. The results show that the type and volume of solvent are the most important factors for pigment extraction, and the mobile phase and column selection are the most important for HPLC analysis. For the study sites, we found that the best methods to extract sedimentary pigments are as follows: the use of a mixture of acetone:methanol:water(80:15:5, v:v:v) as the extraction solvent; solvent/sample ratio of 10 m L/g; sonication for 30 s and standing extraction for 6 h. The best methods for HPLC analysis are as follows: Zorbax Eclipse plus C8 column with mobile phase A, methanol:acetonitrile:0.25 M aqueous pyridine(50:25:25, v:v:v) and mobile phase B, methanol: acetonitrile: acetone(20:60:20, v:v:v); p H of mobile phase A adjusted to 6 with acetic acid; and HPLC column temperature maintained at 40°C. The study provides an experimental basis for future investigations of past changes in primary productivity and the response of lake ecosystems to climate change and human activities on the Tibetan Plateau.  相似文献

Determination of Atrazine, Terbutylazine and their Deethyl- and Hydroxymetabolites in Soil by SFE and HPLC/UV-DAD The supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) (CO2 and CH3OH as modifier) of the herbicides atrazine and terbutylazine as well as their deethyl- and hydroxymetabolites from soil was investigated. The analytes were determined after extraction by HPLC/UV-DAD using a C18 column. The limits of detection of the chromatographic step were between 0.01 μg/mL and 0.07 μg/mL, the relative standard deviations between 0.8% and 1.4%. With the aid of a control chart, the stability of the chromatographic system was evaluated. For extraction, soil was spiked with 5 μg/g for each component. For SFE, CO2 and methanol as modifier were used, and a pressure program was applied. Beside SFE, Soxhlet extraction with methanol and a solid-liquid extraction with acetone/water by shaking were carried out. For chlorine-containing triazines, the recovery rates were comparable for all extraction methods. The following recovery rates for SFE were obtained: deethylterbutylazine 77.4%, terbutylazine 80.2%, deethylatrazine 87.4%, atrazine 92.6%. However, the recovery rates for the hydroxymetabolites (4.1% for hydroxyatrazine, 21% for hydroxyterbutylazine) were not satisfying compared with the “classical” methods of extraction (above 50%). The limits of detection for the total process (SFE and HPLC/UV-DAD) estimated by the signal to noise ratio amounted 0.08 μg/g soil for chlorine-containing derivates, for hydroxyatrazine 2…3 μg/g, and for hydroxyterbutylazine 0.8 μ/g.  相似文献

Determination of Pesticides in Water by On-line Solid-phase Extraction and HPLC-DAD This paper describes an HPLC on-line procedure for the determination of 29 relevant pesticides in water by diode-array detection using a compact HPLC-system with integrated column-switching. The sample – 5 mL – is injected with a large volume injection system on a precolumn cartridge (RP-C18). Enriched compounds are eluted in frontflush mode by columnswitching to a microbore column and separated with a gradient water/acetonitrile. During desorption the precolumn cartridge is heated at 80°C resulting in a comparable efficiency to the separation with direct injection. The procedure is fully automated for continuous monitoring of drinking-, ground-, and surface water with low contamination levels. Sample preparation is limited to a filtration step with an anion-exchange membrane filter to reduce natural contaminations e.g. humic acids simultaneously. For a concentration of 50 ng/L, the signal to noise ratio varies from 3:1 (Ethidimuron) up to 25:1 (Chloridazon). The standard deviations compare to the standardized HPLC-method DIN EN ISO 11369; the recovery rates are 100% and reproducible. The method was successfully tested on ruggedness with several sequences from a monitoring program. The precolumn cartridge needs replacement after 100 sample injections. Finally, this method was coupled with a benchtop mass-spectrometer (electrospray mode) without changing the chromatographic conditions. With selected ion monitoring (SIM) selectivity and detection sensitivity could be improved considerably compared to DAD-detection.  相似文献

The need for most efficient use of energy is abruptly in conflict with the need to maintain environmental quality in terms of heated effluents released from power plants. This study synthesizes biological results found from four effluent canals from power plants releasing heat on shallow estuaries: tropics, edge of tropics and subtropics. The dominant near-shore community in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean is that of Thalassia, rich in animal and plant abundance and biomass. Summer mean temperatures in all three estuaries ranged around 30°C. Results show sustained temperatures of +5°C in summer denude the area of the Thalassia community. Temperatures +1 and +1.5°C were minimally damaging to the studied areas and can be considered rational release temperatures. Insufficient data was available at +2°C to make a statement; +4°C areas showed intense damage to the biological communities at all locations; +3°C effect varied from severe damage in the subtropics to 40% damage in the tropics. Recommended summer heated effluent release for power plants eliminating heat onto Thalassia beds would certainly nerver be greater than +3°C. A trade-off decision must be made by decision-makers as to +3 or +2°C as the upper permissable limit. Winter release of effluent temperature in areas where winter temperatures fall below 25°C could be above +3°C apparently without damage. Tropical and subtropical ecosystems are on the brink of disaster and small increments of change by man's activities can push them beyond tolerance limits. Evidently the marine tropics differ from marine temperate zones in their capacity to assimilate man's activities.  相似文献

Two comparative simulation experiments(a normal atmospheric-pressure opening system and a 20 MPa closed system)were conducted to study the geochemical evolution of n-alkane,sterane,and terpane biomarkers in the process of oil cracking into gas under different pressures.With an initial experimental temperature set at 300°C,the temperature was increased to 650°C at a heating rate of 30°C/h.The products were tested every 50°C starting at 300°C,and a pressure of 20 MPa was achieved using a water column.The low-maturity crude oil sample was from the Paleogene system in the Dongying sag in eastern China.The threshold temperature obtained for the primary oil cracking process in both pressure systems was 450°C.Before the oil was cracked into gas,some components,including macromolecular n-alkanes,were cracked into medium-or small-sized n-alkanes.The secondary oil cracking of heavy hydrocarbon gases of C2–5to methane mainly occurred between 550°C to 650°C,and the parameters Ln(C1/C2)and Ln(C1/C3),as well as the dry coefficients,increased.Overpressure inhibited the oil cracking process.In the 20 MPa system,the oil conversion rate decreased,the temperature threshold for gas generation rose,and oil cracking was inhibited.Compared with the normal pressure system,high-carbon n-alkanes and other compounds in the 20 MPa pressure system were reserved.Furthermore,the parameters∑C21-/∑22+,Ln(C1/C2),and Ln(C1/C3),as well as the dry coefficients,decreased within the main temperature range.During secondary oil cracking(550°C to 600°C),the Ph/nC18and Pr/nC17decreased.High pressure influenced the evolution of the biomarkers Ts and Tm,C31homohopane,C29sterane,and their related maturity parameters to different extents during oil cracking under different temperature ranges.  相似文献

The kinetics of metamorphism of the Staroe Boriskino C2 chondrite heated at 450°C in an inert atmosphere of helium flow was investigated. After being heated at 450°C during 160 minutes one specimen was moreover heated for 10 minutes at 500°C. The phase distribution was determined by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and electron probe microanalysis.The material changes rapidly (1–2 minutes). As a result of dehydration, the iron of the phyllosilicate is oxidized, the charge compensation being realized through the removal of iron and magnesium cations with the formation of magnetite and forsterite. Upon 10 minutes additional heating at 500°C iron appears in the olivine structure, the degree of iron oxidation declines, and magnetite disappears. This paper reports the variations of strength, resistivity and thermal parameters of clay after high-temperature heating. Experiments were carried out to test the physical properties of clay heated at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 800°C in a furnace. The experiment results show that below 400°C the uniaxial compressive strength and resistivity change very little. However, above 400°C, both increase rapidly. At a temperature under 400°C, the thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity decrease significantly. The thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) test indicate that a series of changes occur in kaolinite at temperatures from 400 to 600°C, which is considered the primary cause of the variation of physical and mechanical properties of clay under high temperatures.  相似文献

Abstract

Abstract The water storage capacity (WSC) of dehiscent fruits that constitute a portion of litter on the forest floor is inadequately understood. This study has quantified the WSC of empty fruiting heads of sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.) in an effort to reduce the data gap on the WSC and interception of fruit litter. In a laboratory experiment, empty fruiting heads of sweetgum were found to have a mean WSC of 399% of their oven-dried weight. The maximum volume of water detained by fruiting heads in the field was 507 ml container-1. Interception by the empty fruiting heads is considerable, ranging from 2.6 to 218.5% of the incident gross precipitation, with a mean of 42.7%. The data indicate that the interception storage capacity of empty fruiting heads is reached at 2.5 cm depth equivalent of incident gross precipitation. A logarithmic relationship was observed between the volume of water detained by the fruiting heads and the length of time since precipitation. Results of the study suggest that fruit litter may have a considerable influence on the seasonal water balance and ecohydrology of plantations and forests with significant proportions of sweetgum.  相似文献

Organic compounds were evaluated in March 2010 at 22 stations in Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island Canada and at 66 locations in Puget Sound. Of 37 compounds, 15 were xenobiotics, 8 were determined to have an anthropogenic imprint over natural sources, and 13 were presumed to be of natural or mixed origin. The three most frequently detected compounds were salicyclic acid, vanillin and thymol. The three most abundant compounds were diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), ethyl vanillin and benzaldehyde (∼600 ng L−1 on average). Concentrations of xenobiotics were 10-100 times higher in Puget Sound relative to Barkley Sound. Three compound couplets are used to illustrate the influence of human activity on marine waters; vanillin and ethyl vanillin, salicylic acid and acetylsalicylic acid, and cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid. Ratios indicate that anthropogenic activities are the predominant source of these chemicals in Puget Sound.  相似文献

Microcracks can have a strong influence on the elastic and fracture mechanical properties of rocks if they are numerous, or if they are orientated in unfavourable directions in anisotropic rocks in particular. This paper presents results from a great number of mechanical tests on Stripa granite containing various amounts of microcracks. Variations in the microcrack density were obtained by shock-heating the rock at different temperatures in the range 100–600°C for 3 h.The results presented are obtained from sound velocity measurements, uniaxial compression tests, Brazilian tests and three-point bending tests. The density of microcracks in the heated rock is studied by means of optical microscopy, SEM and differential strain analysis (DSA).Some of the calculated parameters show a maximum value for specimens heat-treated at about 100°C. The tensile strength is, for instance, substantially higher for specimens shock-heated at 100°C than for non-heated ones. Another striking feature is the initial decrease of the diameter observed in specimens heat-treated at 600°C when loaded in uniaxial compression. Both optical microscopy and DSA experiments reveal a large increase in microcracking when the heat-treatment temperature exceeds 300°C.  相似文献

A preliminary study was undertaken to determine the optimal conditions for the biodegradation of a crude oil. Among 57 oil‐degrading bacterial cultures isolated from oil‐contaminated soil samples, Bacillus sp. IOS1‐7, Corynebacterium sp. BPS2‐6, Pseudomonas sp. HPS2‐5, and Pseudomonas sp. BPS1‐8 were selected for the study based on the efficiency of crude oil utilization. Along with the selected individual strains, a mixed bacterial consortium prepared using the above strains was also used for degradation studies. The mixed bacterial consortium showed more growth and degradation than did individual strains. At 1% crude oil concentration, the mixed bacterial consortium degraded a maximum of 77% of the crude oil. This was followed by 69% by Pseudomonas sp. BPS1‐8, 64% by Bacillus sp. IOS1‐7, 45% by Pseudomonas sp. HPS2‐5, and 41% by Corynebacterium sp. BPS2‐6. The percentage of degradation by the mixed bacterial consortium decreased from 77 to 45% as the concentration of crude oil was increased from 1 to 12%. Temperature of 35°C and pH 7 were found to be optimum for maximum degradation.  相似文献

High-temperature isothermal heating of biominerals has commonly been used to artificially accelerate protein degradation in order to extrapolate kinetic parameters to the lower temperatures experienced in vivo and in the burial environment. It is not easy to test the accuracy of these simulations due to the difficulty of finding samples of known age held at a known temperature. We compare protein degradation in the intra-crystalline organic matrix of heated (80 °C, 110 °C, and 140 °C) massive Porites sp. coral to that directly measured in the skeleton of colonies growing at ∼26 °C and deposited over the last five centuries. This provides the opportunity to critically evaluate the underlying assumption that high-temperature experiments accurately mimic degradation processes and kinetics occurring in a ‘naturally aged’ biomineral. In all samples the intra-crystalline protein fraction was isolated and the L- and D- concentration of multiple amino acids measured using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). There was no evidence of a failure of the closed system in the high-temperature experiments (assessed by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analyses and determination of leached amino acid concentration). We compared conventional methods for estimation of kinetic parameters with a new ‘model-free’ approach that makes no assumptions regarding the underlying kinetics of the system and uses numerical optimisation to estimate relative rate differences. The ‘model-free’ approach generally produced more reliable estimates of the observed rates of racemization in ‘naturally aged’ coral, although rates of hydrolysis (as estimated from the release of free amino acids) were usually over-estimated. In the amino acids for which we were able to examine both racemization and hydrolysis (aspartic acid/asparagine, glutamic acid/glutamine and alanine), it was clear that hydrolysis was less temperature sensitive than racemization, which may account for the differences in degradation patterns observed between the ‘naturally aged’ coral and high-temperature data. It is clearly important to estimate the individual temperature dependence of each of the parallel reactions.  相似文献

We recently conducted a laboratory study to measure the dispersion effectiveness of eight dispersants currently listed on the National Contingency Plan Product Schedule. Results are useful in determining how many commercial dispersant products would have been effective for use on South Louisiana crude oil in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The test used was a modification of the Baffled Flask Test (BFT), which is being proposed to replace the current Swirling Flask Test (SFT). The modifications of the BFT in this study included use of one oil rather than two, increasing replication from 4 runs to 6, and testing at two temperatures, 5 °C and 25 °C. Results indicated that temperature was not as critical a variable as the literature suggested, likely because of the low viscosity and light weight of the SLC. Of the eight dispersants tested, only three gave satisfactory results in the laboratory flasks at both temperatures.  相似文献

Over the last decade, monoculture plantations have rapidly developed in Jambi Province on Sumatra, Indonesia. Meanwhile, there has been intensification of discharge fluctuation in the study area. We examined the relative contribution of changes in evapotranspiration and soil compaction to the catchment discharge by using the Soil Water Assessment Tool model. Evapotranspiration values based on the catchment water balance analysis in intensively cultivated oil palm plantations, smallholder oil palm plantations, rubber plantations, and the secondary forest are 5.03 ± 0.30, 4.11 ± 0.38, 3.36 ± 0.32, and 4.50 ± 0.18 mm d?1, respectively. Infiltration rate in active interrows of oil palm, rubber plantations, agroforest, oil palm frond pile is 2.6 ± 1.7, 16.3 ± 6.8, 28.0 ± 3.9, 58.2 ± 21.8 cm h?1, respectively. We found that increased evapotranspiration and soil compaction increased the frequency of low discharge by 30%, with increased evapotranspiration contributing 10% and increased soil compaction contributing 20%.  相似文献

The partitioning of rain water into throughfall, stemflow and interception loss when passing through plant canopies depends on properties of the respective plant species, such as leaf area and branch angles. In heterogeneous vegetation, such as tropical forest or polycultural systems, the presence of different plant species may consequently result in a mosaic of situations with respect to quantity and quality of water inputs into the soil. As these processes influence not only the water availability for the plants, but also water infiltration and nutrient leaching, the understanding of plant effects on the repartitioning of rain water may help in the optimization of land use systems and management practices. We measured throughfall and stemflow in a perennial polyculture (multi‐strata agroforestry), monocultures of peach palm (Bactris gasipaes) for fruit and for palmito, a monoculture of cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum), spontaneous fallow and primary forest during one year in central Amazonia, Brazil. The effect on rain water partitioning was measured separately for four useful tree species in the polyculture and for two tree species in the primary forest. Throughfall at two stem distances, and stemflow, differed significantly between tree species, resulting in pronounced spatial patterns of water input into the soil in the polyculture system. For two tree species, peach palm for fruit (Bactris gasipaes) and Brazil nut trees (Bertholletia excelsa), the water input into the soil near the stem was significantly higher than the open‐area rainfall. This could lead to increased nutrient leaching when fertilizer is applied close to the stem of these trees. In the primary forest, such spatial patterns could also be detected, with significantly higher water input near a palm (Oenocarpus bacaba) than near a dicotyledonous tree species (Eschweilera sp.). Interception losses were 6·4% in the polyculture, 13·9 and 12·3% in the peach palm monocultures for fruit and for palmito, respectively, 0·5% in the cupuaçu monoculture and 3·1% in the fallow. With more than 20% of the open‐area rainfall, the highest stemflow contributions to the water input into the soil were measured in the palm monocultures and in the fallow. The effects of thermal and compressional treatment on40Ar-39Ar systematics have been investigated on three artificially heated biotite samples (heated for 1 hour at 700°C and 860°C in air and 700°C in vacuum respectively) and uniaxially compressed granite (p = 1400bar) and basalt samples (p = 1650bar). The40Ar-39Ar results for the disturbed samples are compared with those for undisturbed samples. Except for the vacuum-heating case, the effects of the disturbances may be interpreted as the combined effect of a partial loss of radiogenic40Ar from the sample and an incorporation of air Ar into the sample. Common diagnostic effects are (1) reduction of the total fusion age, (2) distortion of the age spectrum and, if the degree of the partial Ar loss is small, (3) approximate preservation of the isochron age, and (4) reduction of the intercept value (40Ar/36Ar) in the isochron plot.The features observed in the age spectra of artificially disturbed samples are rather common in geologically disturbed samples, suggesting that the artificial disturbances simulate the effects of geological disturbances on40Ar-39Ar systematics.  相似文献

The ability of adsorbed water to react with feldspar-rich lunar soils, create fine pores, and expand the specific surface area is reduced about five-fold if the fines are heated at 700°C rather than 300°C. The loss of reactivity is attributed to the annealing of radiation damage tracks which reduces their etchability by water. Although the pore volume which can be induced decreases drastically, the distribution of pore sizes is not altered significantly. Most of the induced pores have a width of about 45Åwith a smaller population concentrated at about 120Å. For fines without water treatment, loss of specific surface area by sintering does not occur at temperatures below 700°C.  相似文献

Competition and predation are the two major biotic interactions in zooplankton community. Various rotifer species exhibit polymorphism in lorica and spine morphology in the presence of predators and competitors, which effectively increases their defence competition capacity. This study compared life-history parameters between long-spined morph (LSM) and short-spined morph (SSM) of Keratella tropica at three temperatures. The results showed that both morphs showed significantly higher intrinsic rate of population increase at 25 °C than those at 20 °C and 30 °C. The intrinsic rate of population increase was significantly lower in LSM than SSM at 25 °C and 30 °C, and the net reproductive rate was significantly lower in LSM than SSM at 30 °C. These results suggested that K. tropica had cost on development of long spines, which, however, was dependent on temperature. Moreover, the competition outcome of LSM and SSM with Moina macrocopa were investigated at three densities of Scenedesmus obliquus (0.5 × 106, 1.0 × 106 and 2.0 × 106 cells/mL) and three initial densities of M. macrocopa (0.1, 0.3 and 0.9 ind./mL), revealing that both LSM and SSM populations decreased significantly at all tested algal densities and Moina levels. LSM showed higher population growth rate than SSM at lower algal density (0.5 × 106 cells/mL) and higher Moina densities (0.3 and 0.9 ind./mL), which suggested that LSM could be more effective to defend M. macrocopa. Three-way analysis of variance showed no significant effects of algal density on population growth rate of K. tropica, but interaction between algal density and M. macrocopa density significantly affected its population growth rate.  相似文献

Magnetic susceptibility (MS) of natural specimens of hematite and goethite is studied under continuous heating with various additives: with carbon (sugar), nitrogen (carbamide), and elemental sulfur. It is found that heating of hematite with carbon above 450°C results in the formation of single-domain magnetite, while the magnetic susceptibility rises by a factor of 165. The increase in magnetic susceptibility on heating of hematite with nitrogen above 540°C reflects the generation of a single-domain maghemite with the Curie point of about 650°C, which is stable to heating. After the first heating, the magnetic susceptibility increases by 415 times. The subsequent cycle of thermal treatment results in the transition of maghemite to hematite, a decrease of MS, and an increase of coercivity. Heating with sulfur produces a stable single-domain magnetite at a temperature above the Curie point, which is manifested in the cooling curves. Here, the MS increases by a factor of 400. The heating curves for goethite exhibit a sharp drop in susceptibility to a temperature of 350–360°C, which reflects the transition of hematite to goethite. Heating of hematite with carbon produces stable maghemite at above 530°C, and with sulphur and nitrogen, it produces magnetite. When heated with pyrite, hematite reduces to magnetite under the action of sulfur released from pyrite.  相似文献
