The Mangalwar Complex of the Aravalli craton is marked by the presence of late Paleoproterozoic granites referred to as Anjana Granite and Amet Granite. These granites occur as 1.64 Ga old plutons intruding greenstone sequences and migmatitic gneisses of Mangalwar Complex which comprises parts of BGC of the Aravalli craton. In the present contribution major, trace and REE data of these granites along with associated microgranular mafic enclaves (MMEs) are presented and discussed. Geochemically these granites are quartz monzonite, metaluminous, sub-alkaline and high-K calc-alkaline rocks. The most important characteristics of Anjana and Amet granites are low SiO2, high MgO, Mg#, K2O, Ba, and low Na2O/K2O ratios. In addition, the REEs show moderate to high fractionation, with (La/Yb) ratios up to 22 and 23 of the Anjana and Amet granites respectively, with no or positive europium anomalies. In the primitive mantle-normalized trace element diagrams both granites show depletion in high-field strength elements (HFSE) such as Nb, Ta, P, Ti and enrichment in LILEs. Most of these features are comparable to those of sanukitoid series rocks. Geochemically both granites are distinguished as high-Ti sanukitoids. Geochemical characteristics of MMEs suggest that they are similar to Anjana and Amet granites and in turn to sanukitoids with lower SiO2 content. They display LREE enriched patterns with low values (avg. 13) of (La/Yb)N, negative Eu anomalies and high HREE contents (58 ppm). It is suggested that the parental magma of Anjana and Amet granitic plutons originated through a four stage process (1) Generation of magmatic melts produced by partial melting of terrigeneous sediments of subducting slab in an arc setting; (2) interaction of those melts with the overlying mantle wedge, and total consumption of slab-derived melts during the reaction resulting in production of a metasomatized mantle; (3) tectonothermal event, possibly related to the slab break-off, causing asthenospheric mantle upwelling. This may have induced the melting of the metasomatized mantle and the generation of sanukitoid magmas. The parental magmas of Anjana and Amet granites and their mafic enclaves were generated at lower and higher lithospheric levels respectively (4) Granitic magma ascended due to viscosity and gravity instabilities and interacted with enclave magma at higher mantle level. Both magmas ascended towards upper crust and evolved through fractional crystallisation. Existing data suggest that in the Mangalwar Complex, the formation of sanukitoid magma started even during Mesoarchaean times and continued till late Paleoproterozoic. Formation of sanukitoid magma during this time indicates that in northern Indian shield the multi-stage subduction- accretionary orogenic processes continued for a protracted geological period and played a major role in the origin and evolution of early continental crust.  相似文献

Through detailed studies we have delineated a suite of banded TTG gneisses from the Zanhuang Complex. The protolith of the gneisses, predominantly tonalite, has undergone intensive metamorphism, deformation and anatexis and in a banded structure is intimately associated with melanocratic dioritic gneiss and leucocratic trondhjemitic veins. SHRIMP Zircon U–Pb data show that the tonalite was formed ca. 2692 ± 12 Ma ago. The tonalitic gneiss has the features of high SiO2 (67.76–73.31%), high Al2O3 (14.38–15.83%), rich in Na2O (4.48–5.07%) and poor in K2O (0.77–1.93%). The gneiss is strongly fractioned in REE ((La/Yb)N = 12.02–24.65) and shows a weak positive Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* = 1.05–1.64). It has high contents of Ba (199–588 ppm) and Sr (200–408 ppm), low contents of Yb (0.32–1.00 ppm) and Y (3.41–10.3 ppm) with high Sr/Y ratios (21.77–96.77) and depletion in HFSE Nb, Ta and Ti. These characteristics are similar to those of the high-Si adakitic rocks. The melanocratic dioritic gneiss has low SiO2 (59.81%), high MgO (6.34%), high Al2O3 (14.02%) contents, rich in Na2O (3.7%) and poor in K2O (1.79%), with high Mg index (Mg# = 67). REE and trace elements are on the whole similar to that of the tonalitic gneiss, but compatible element abundances V (116 ppm), Cr (249 ppm), Co (37 ppm) and Ni (179 ppm) are higher. The leucocratic felsic bands (approximating trondhjemite in composition) have major oxides similar to that of the TTG gneisses but the REE and compatible elements are extremely low, which are indicative of the products of anatexis. The tonalitic gneiss has positive εNd(t) (2.37–3.29) and low initial Sr (0.69719–0.70068) values with depleted mantle Nd model age of ca. 2.8 Ga, suggesting its generation from partial melting of mantle-derived juvenile crust. The dioritic gneiss was also derived from subduction environment, but has undergone significant metasomatism of mantle wedge. The delineation of the ca. 2.7 Ga TTG gneisses in the Zanhuang Complex further proves that the North China Craton experienced large-scale continental crustal accretion in early Neoarchean, and gives new constraints on the subdivision of the early blocks and greenstone belts of the craton.  相似文献

Diverse models have been proposed for the role of the Tarim Craton within the Paleoproterozoic Columbia supercontinent assembly. Here we report a suite of-1.71 Ga Nb-enriched meta-gabbro lenses in the eastern Quanji Massif, within the Tarim Craton in NW China. The meta-gabbroic rocks have Nb contents of 11.5-16.4 ppm with Nb/La ratios varying from 0.84 to 1.02((Nb/La)_N = 0.81-0.98) and Nb/U ratios from 38.0 to 47.2. They show low SiO_2(45.1-48.5 wt.%) and MgO(5.96-6.81 wt.%) and Mg#(Mg# = Mg/(Mg + Fe) = 43.5-47.7), high FeO~t(13.0-15.7 wt.%) and moderate Ti02(1.70-2.51 wt.%).with tholeiitic affinities. These rocks possess low fractionated REE patterns without obvious Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu~* = 0.87-1.02). Their primitive mantle-normalized elements patterns display significant Zr-Hf troughs, positive Nb anomalies, weak negative Ti and P anomalies, and high contents of Rb and Ba,resembling Nb-enriched basalts generated in arc-related tectonic settings. Their arc-like geochemical signatures together with whole rock εNd(t) values of 0.4-2.1 and corresponding old T_(DM)(2.22-2.37 Ga)as well as(~(143)Nd/~(144)Nd)_t and(~(87)Sr/~(86)Sr)t(t = 1712 Ma) values of 0.5104-0.5105 and 0.7030-0.7058,respectively, suggest that their precursor magma originated from mantle wedge peridotite metasomatised by subduction-derived melts. The results from our study reveal subduction along the eastern periphery of the Tarim Craton and marginal outgrowth continuing to ~1.7 Ga within the Columbia supercontinent.  相似文献

The appearance of voluminous K-rich granitoids within nearly all ancient cratons represents one major characteristic of late Archean Earth, which hold the key to understand the transitional geodynamic regimes globally during this period. The genetic regimes and links among different K-rich granitoids and their implications for crustal growth and evolution remain controversial. A series of late Neoarchean K-rich granitoids, including quartz dioritic, granodioritic, and monzogranitic gneisses, occur in the Jiaobei terrane of North China Craton. Zircon U-Pb isotopic data reveal that they emplaced during ~2544–2494 Ma, coeval with regional ~2530–2470 Ma high-grade metamorphism. The quartz dioritic-granodioritic gneisses are magnesian rocks, and they show low Si and Ti, but high K and Mg, similar to Archean low-Ti sanukitoids. The Sr/Y and (La/Yb)N are high (mostly 59.99–119.32 and 8.56–61.42), with moderate to high Nb (up to 11.79 ppm). Geochemical modeling, combined with depleted zircon εHf(t2) (+0.5 − +7.2) and the presence of minor xenocrystic zircons, indicate that these low silica samples were derived from a metasomatized depleted mantle source with inputs of slab-derived fluids and melts, and minor contamination by ancient crustal materials. The monzogranitic rocks are ferroan rocks showing high Si, K, and Fe, but low Mg. They are divided into two subgroups: the first displays low TREE of 44.00–127.00 ppm and positive Eu anomalies (EuN/Eu*N = 1.06–1.60), whereas the second shows high TREE of 85.76–819.02 ppm but negative Eu anomalies (EuN/Eu*N = 0.51–0.62). Geochemical modeling and depleted zircon εHf(t2) of +2.6 − +8.4 suggest their formation by partial melting of juvenile crustal sources involving tonalitic and some metasedimentary rocks at diverse crustal levels.Combined with regional geological data, these late Neoarchean K-rich granitoids were generated by coupled melting of metasomatized depleted mantle and dominantly juvenile crustal materials during crustal stabilization. Furthermore, the Jiaobei terrane experienced ~2.6–2.5 Ga crustal growth under a subduction-accretion setting.  相似文献

Several bodies of granulites comprising charnockite, charno-enderbite, pelitic and calc-silicate rocks occur within an assemblage of granite gneiss/granitoid, amphibolite and metasediments (henceforth described as banded gneisses) in the central part of the Aravalli Mountains, northwestern India. The combined rock assemblage was thought to constitute an Archaean basement (BGC-II) onto which the successive Proterozoic cover rocks were deposited. Recent field studies reveal the occurrence of several bodies of late-Palaeoproterozoic (1725 and 1621 Ma) granulites within the banded gneisses, which locally show evidence of migmatization at c. 1900 Ma coeval with the Aravalli Orogeny. We report single zircon ‘evaporation’ ages together with information from LA-ICP-MS U-Pb zircon datings to confirm an Archaean (2905 — ca. 2500 Ma) age for the banded gneisses hosting the granulites. The new geochronological data, therefore, suggest a polycyclic evolution for the BGC-II terrane for which the new term Sandmata Complex is proposed. The zircon ages suggest that the different rock formations in the Sandmata Complex are neither entirely Palaeoproterozoic in age, as claimed in some studies nor are they exclusively Archaean as was initially thought. Apart from distinct differences in the age of rocks, tectono-metamorphic breaks are observed in the field between the Archaean banded gneisses and the Palaeoproterozoic granulites. Collating the data on granulite ages with the known tectono-stratigraphic framework of the Aravalli Mountains, we conclude that the evolution and exhumation of granulites in the Sandmata Complex occurred during a tectono-magmatic/metamorphic event, which cannot be linked to known orogenic cycles that shaped this ancient mountain belt. We present some field and geochronologic evidence to elucidate the exhumation history and tectonic emplacement of the late Palaeoproterozoic, high P-T granulites into the Archaean banded gneisses. The granulite-facies metamorphism has been correlated with the thermal perturbation during the asymmetric opening of Delhi basins at around 1700 Ma.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Volcanic rocks in the Hala’alate and Aladeyikesai formations, which are composed of basaltic andesite and pyroxene andesite, are widespread in Hala’alate Mountain, West Junggar, Northwest China. These rocks (plagioclase + clinopyroxene/olivine) formed in the late Carboniferous and show a remarkable geochemical affinity with typical sanukitoids with oversaturated SiO2 (52.9–56.9 wt.%) and high MgO (3.47–6.88 wt.%, Mg# >48) contents. They also exhibit a narrow range of Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes within (87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.7037–0.7041, εNd(t) = 4.4–6.2, 206Pb/204Pb = 18.22–18.41, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.48–15.52, 208Pb/204Pb = 37.99–38.30. Hala’alate Formation volcanic rocks are similar to the sanukitoids of Karamay, with high Sr (633.5–970.1 ppm), Ba (268.7–796.3 ppm), and Sr/Y (61.34–84.28), formed by partial melting of the mantle metasomatized by slab-derived adakitic melts. In contrast, Aladeyikesai Formation volcanic rocks show some affinity with sanukitoids of the Hatu area and the Setouchi Volcanic Belt, with low Sr (442.2–508.7 ppm), Ba (199.2–485.1 ppm), and Sr/Y (25.03–30.28), generated by the partial melting of subducting sediments. Identification of late Carboniferous sanukitoids in Hala’alate Mountain provides important constraints on the closing time of the remnant ocean basin in West Junggar, and implies that multi-stage subduction–accretionary orogeny plays a crucial role in the evolution and growth of the continental crust in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.  相似文献

From July to November 2009, concentrations of CO2 in 78 samples of ambient air collected in 18 different interior spaces on a university campus in Dallas, Texas (USA) ranged from 386 to 1980 ppm. Corresponding δ13C values varied from −8.9‰ to −19.4‰. The CO2 from 22 samples of outdoor air (also collected on campus) had a more limited range of concentrations from 385 to 447 ppm (avg. = 408 ppm), while δ13C values varied from −10.1‰ to −8.4‰ (avg.=-9.0‰). In contrast to ambient indoor and outdoor air, the concentrations of CO2 exhaled by 38 different individuals ranged from 38,300 to 76,200 ppm (avg. = 55,100 ppm), while δ13C values ranged from −24.8‰ to −17.7‰ (avg. = −21.8‰). The residence times of the total air in the interior spaces of this study appear to have been on the order of 10 min with relatively rapid approaches (∼30 min) to steady-state concentrations of ambient CO2 gas. Collectively, the δ13C values of the indoor CO2 samples were linearly correlated with the reciprocal of CO2 concentration, exhibiting an intercept of −21.8‰, with r2 = 0.99 and p < 0.001 (n = 78). This high degree of linearity for CO2 data representing 18 interior spaces (with varying numbers of occupants), and the coincidence of the intercept (−21.8‰) with the average δ13C value for human-exhaled CO2 demonstrates simple mixing between two inputs: (1) outdoor CO2 introduced to the interior spaces by ventilation systems, and (2) CO2 exhaled by human occupants of those spaces. If such simple binary mixing is a common feature of interior spaces, it suggests that the intercept of a mixing line defined by two data points (CO2 input from the local ventilation system and CO2 in the ambient air of the room) could be a reasonable estimate of the average δ13C value of the CO2 exhaled by the human occupants. Thus, such indoor spaces appear to constitute effective “sample vessels” for collection of CO2 that can be used to determine the average proportions of C3 and C4-derived C in the diets of the occupants. For the various groups occupying the rooms sampled in this study, C4-derived C appears to have constituted ∼40% of the average diet.  相似文献

The Imataca Complex in an area near Cerro Bolivar, Venezuela, consists of a conformable, predominantly acid, compositionally-intergradational, sequence of acid, intermediate and mafic granulites, granitic gneisses and amphibolites with minor iron-formation and other metasedimentary interlayers.Major- and trace-element compositions of granulites, granitic gneisses, and amphibolites, and compositional relations in pyroxenes and irontitanium oxides indicate an igneous protolith. Pyroxenes and oxides in the granulites appear to be relict igneous phases, and record TfO2 of original igneous crystallization, despite high-grade metamorphism. Mineral thermometers in granitic gneisses (biotite, FeTi oxides) and in metasedimentary biotite gneisses (cordieritegarnet, FeTi oxides) indicate metamorphic TPT of 625–675°C, 4–6.5 kbar.Major- and trace-element variations in meta-igneous granulites, granitic gneisses, and amphibolites are calc-alkaline in character, and the sequence, particularly in its predominantly acid composition, most closely resembles continental (i.e., “Andean”) calc-alkaline series. Mafic granulites and amphibolites, however, are tholeiitic and relatively iron-rich.The compositional similarity between the Imataca series and other granulite series raises the possibility that acidic calc-alkaline continental volcanism may be more important in the Archean than recent emphasis on greenstones and island-arc oceanic types of volcanism would suggest.  相似文献

The Dharwar Craton is a composite Archean cratonic collage that preserves important records of crustal evolution on the early Earth. Here we present results from a multidisciplinary study involving field investigations, petrology, zircon SHRIMP U–Pb geochronology with in-situ Hf isotope analyses, and whole-rock geochemistry, including Nd isotope data on migmatitic TTG (tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite) gneisses, dark grey banded gneisses, calc-alkaline and anatectic granitoids, together with synplutonic mafic dykes along a wide Northwest – Southeast corridor forming a wide time window in the Central and Eastern blocks of the Dharwar Craton. The dark grey banded gneisses are transitional between TTGs and calc-alkaline granitoids, and are referred to as ‘transitional TTGs’, whereas the calc-alkaline granitoids show sanukitoid affinity. Our zircon U–Pb data, together with published results, reveal four major periods of crustal growth (ca. 3360-3200 Ma, 3000-2960 Ma, 2700-2600 Ma and 2570-2520 Ma) in this region. The first two periods correspond to TTG generation and accretion that is confined to the western part of the corridor, whereas widespread 2670-2600 Ma transitional TTG, together with a major outburst of 2570–2520 Ma juvenile calc-alkaline magmatism of sanukitoid affinity contributed to peak continental growth. The transitional TTGs were preceded by greenstone volcanism between 2746 Ma and 2700 Ma, whereas the calc-alkaline magmatism was contemporaneous with 2570–2545 Ma felsic volcanism. The terminal stage of all four major accretion events was marked by thermal events reflected by amphibolite to granulite facies metamorphism at ca. 3200 Ma, 2960 Ma, 2620 Ma and 2520 Ma. Elemental ratios [(La/Yb)N, Sr/Y, Nb/Ta, Hf/Sm)] and Hf-Nd isotope data suggest that the magmatic protoliths of the TTGs emplaced at different time periods formed by melting of thickened oceanic arc crust at different depths with plagioclase + amphibole ± garnet + titanite/ilmenite in the source residue, whereas the elemental (Ba–Sr, [(La/Yb)N, Sr/Y, Nb/Ta, Hf/Sm)] and Hf-Nd isotope data [εHf(T) = −0.67 to 5.61; εNd(T) = 0.52 to 4.23; ] of the transitional TTGs suggest that their protoliths formed by melting of composite sources involving mantle and overlying arc crust with amphibole + garnet + clinopyroxene ± plagioclase + ilmenite in the residue. The highly incompatible and compatible element contents (REE, K–Ba–Sr, Mg, Ni, Cr), together with Hf and Nd isotope data [εHf(T) = 4.5 to −3.2; εNd(T) = 1.93 to −1.26; ], of the sanukitoids and synplutonic dykes suggest their derivation from enriched mantle reservoirs with minor crustal contamination. Field, elemental and isotope data [εHf(T) = −4.3 to −15.0; εNd(T) = −0.5 to −7.0] of the anatectic granites suggest their derivation through reworking of ancient as well as newly formed juvenile crust. Secular increase in incompatible as well as compatible element contents in the transitional TTGs to sanukitoids imply progressive enrichment of Neoarchean mantle reservoirs, possibly through melting of continent-derived detritus in a subduction zone setting, resulting in the establishment of a sizable continental mass by 2700 Ma, which in turn is linked to the evolving Earth. The Neoarchean geodynamic evolution is attributed to westward convergence of hot oceanic lithosphere, with continued convergence resulted in the assembly of micro-blocks, with eventual slab break-off leading to asthenosphere upwelling caused extensive mantle melting and hot juvenile magma additions to the crust. This led to lateral flow of hot ductile crust and 3D mass distribution and formation of an orogenic plateaux with subdued topography, as indicated by strain fabric data and strong seismic reflectivity along an E-W crustal profile in the Central and Eastern blocks of the Dharwar Craton.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We report the oldest I-type granites in the Lengshui Complex of the Yangtze Craton, providing new insights for its tectonic evolution during the Neoarchean. An approach-combined study of zircon U-Pb dating and Lu-Hf isotopes, as well as whole-rock element geochemistry and Nd isotopes, were employed. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating for the monzogranite sample LSG03 and LSG16 yielded ages of 2732 ± 13 Ma and 2738 ± 25 Ma, respectively. The more precise age of 2732 ± 13 Ma for the sample LSG03 was taken as the crystallization age of the monzogranite. These rocks have high SiO2 (73.11–74.01 wt%), K2O (3.93–5.48 wt%), Na2O (3.93–4.86 wt%) and low CaO (0.30–0.69 wt%), MgO (0.17–0.30 wt%), TiO2 (0.14–0.17 wt%), P2O5 (0.01–0.06 wt%), Al2O3 (14.11–14.37 wt%) content with weakly peraluminous affinity (A/CNK = 1.04–1.11). Geochemically, they belong to I-type granites, indicating partial melting of a thickened lower crust. Their relatively high Nb/Ta (15.2–34.8) ratios further suggest they formed under eclogite-facies conditions. The consistent whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf isotopic compositions indicate a homogeneous source. According to their εHf(t) values (?2.0 to 0.8), two-stage Hf model ages (3.1 to 3.2 Ga) and positive εNd(t) (1.4 to 2.1), we argue that they were probably generated by partial melting of a juvenile lower crust with little ancient materials. Monzogranites formed in a late-orogenic or collisional compressive tectonic regime, whereas subsequent ca. 2.73 Ga and 2.67–2.62 Ga A-type granites in the Zhongxiang Uplift (including the Lengshui Complex) may represent a prolonged extensional setting. Thus, Archean subduction (probably unlike modern subduction) likely occurred prior to ca. 2.73 Ga. Similar magmatism in the Kongling Complex implies that the Zhongxiang Uplift may have accrete to the Kongling Complex during the early Neoarchean. The transition from I-type to A-type magmatism may have resulted from a change in the geodynamic regime from the late-orogenic or collisional compressive environment to an extensional environment caused by the subsequent lithospheric collapse and mantle upwelling, suggesting an early Neoarchean orogenic event in the eastern Yangtze Craton.  相似文献

The Xes-Xen dating of zircons from rocks of the Rayner Complex of the Enderby Land at the Molodezhnaya Station area (coast of the Alasheyev Bight) yielded age estimates of 550 ± 50 and 1040 ± 30 Ma. The metamorphic rocks of the Rayner Complex record two main events: first, the crystallization of the magmatic protoliths of charnockitic and enderbitic gneisses and, second, superimposed structural and metamorphic alterations under conditions transitional from the amphibolite to granulite facies (metamorphism manifested regionally in the rocks of the Rayner Complex). The most reliable Xes-Xen age estimates for magmatic zircons from the charnockitic and enderbitic gneisses correspond to the Grenville stage of the development of the Rayner Complex (~1.0 Ga). The Xe isotopic systematics of metamorphic zircons reflect a pan-African stage in the evolution of the Rayner Complex (600–550 Ma). Pan-African events are reflected in the U-Xe isotope system in two cases: if metamorphic zircons crystallized at the same time (which probably resulted in the formation of a plateau in the Xes-Xen age spectrum) and if the initial isotopic systems were disturbed (which resulted in a decrease in apparent age toward low-temperature gas fractions). It is important that secondary alterations and a decrease in apparent ages to 600–550 Ma affected only those components (i.e., caused xenon release only from those traps) that were unstable under the maximum metamorphic temperatures and yielded T cl values lower than 750°C (conditions transitional from the amphibolite to granulite facies). At a higher xenon retention, “primary” isotopic systems are preserved. Consequently, the age of metamorphism transitional between the amphibolite and granulite facies can be estimated at 600–550 Ma on the basis of Xes-Xen dating. In general, the results of our study indicate that the age of regional metamorphism of the Rayner complex at the Molodezhnaya area is approximately 600–550 Ma rather than ~1.0 Ga, as was previously supposed.  相似文献

A detailed study of geochemical changes associated with the retrogressive metamorphism of granulite-facies gneisses of the Lewisian Complex of NW Scotland has been made, using nearly 250 gneisses analysed for 24 major, minor and trace elements. The gneiss samples have been divided into 3 groups: (1) granulite facies, (2) granulite facies retrogressed to amphibolite facies but remaining undeformed, and (3) retrogressed (amphibolite-facies) gneisses deformed in shear zones. Element distributions within these groups have been examined using correlation coefficients, and have been compared and tested for significance using Student's t and Fisher z statistics. It is shown that the process of retrogression involved considerable large-scale chemical equilibration. Major-element pairs show marked increases in correlation during retrogression, reflecting considerable reordering of elements into one or other of the main amphibolite-facies minerals: hornblende, plagioclase and (minor) biotite. These correlations are enhanced, but otherwise unchanged, in the deformed gneisses. The retrogressed gneisses have a much more constant Fe/Mg ratio and a more uniform plagioclase composition, while there is a strong correlation between Fe3+ and Fe2+ throughout the area studied. Trace elements, by contrast, mostly show a significant loss of correlation during retrogression, although Cr and Ni are exceptions. Retrogression occurred as a result of widespread introduction of hydrous fluids up vertical structures in the gneiss complex during the Early Proterozoic. These fluids allowed considerable metasomatic redistribution of elements within the complex as the whole-rock compositions adjusted to the new mineralogy. Throughout the North Atlantic Archaean Craton there is a close association between retrogression of high-grade gneisses and basic magmatism in the form of dyke swarms. It is suggested that the two may be connected, and that the fluids causing retrogression are mantle-derived.  相似文献

We have carried out zircon U-Pb SHRIMP dating and Hf isotope determinations on a biotite paraschist and on a tonalitic orthogneiss of the Yaminue Complex, and re-evaluate this complex in the broader context of the tectonic evolution of the Patagonia composite terrane. In the metasedimentary unit (msuYC),the youngest detrital zircon dated at 318±5 Ma(Mississippian/Pennsylvanian boundary) indicates a Pennsylvanian(or younger) depositional age.The three main age populations peak at 474,454 and 374 Ma.Preliminary Hf isotope data for two detrital zircons(447 and 655 Ma) yieldedε(Hf) values of -0.32 and 0.48,indicating that their primary sources contained small amounts of recycled crustal components(of Calymmian age;TDM 1.56 Ga).Zircons from the orthogneiss(miuYC;intrusive into msuYC) show a crystallization age of 261.3±2.7 Ma(Capitanian;late middle Permian) which is broadly coeval with deformation, and Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic inheritance.Meaningful core-rim relationship between Neoarchean zircon cores and late Permian rims is well defined, indicating the occurrence of Archean crust in this sector of Patagonia.Hf TDM of Permian zircons is mainly Meso-Paleoarchean(2.97-3.35 Ga),with highly negativeε(Hf) values(ca.-33).Hf TDM of inherited Neoarchean zircon cores is also Meso-Paleoarchean(3.14-3.45 Ga) but more juvenile(ε(Hf) = -0.3).Hf isotopes reinforce the presence of unexposed ancient crust in this area. Combining geological and isotope data,as well as geophysical models,we identify the Yaminue Complex within the La Esperanza-Yaminue crustal block flanked by two other, distinct crustal blocks:the Eastern block which forms part of the Patagonia terrane sensu stricto, located in the eastern Patagonian region, and the Western block forming part of the Southern Patagonia terrane.Their origins and timing of amalgamation to form the Patagonia composite terrane are also discussed.  相似文献

The Archean to Paleoproterozoic Central Zone of the North China Craton is situated between the Eastern and Western Archean continental blocks and contains two contrasting series of Neoarchean granitoids: the 2523–2486 Ma tonalite−trondhjemite–granodiorite (TTG) gneisses in the Fuping Complex, and the 2555–2525 Ma calc-alkaline granitoids (tonalite, granodiorite, granite and monzogranite) in the Wutai Complex. The Fuping TTG gneisses most likely formed from partial melting of 2.7 Ga basalts at >50 km, with an involvement of 3.0 Ga crustal material. The Wutai granitoids have higher K2O, LILE and Rb/Sr, but lower Sr/Y and LaN/YbN than the Fuping TTG gneisses, are characterized by Nd TDM from 2.5 to 2.8 Ga and Nd(t) from 0.49 to 3.34, and are derived from partial melting of a juvenile source at <37 km.The geochemistry of these two contrasting series of Neoarchean granitoids provides further evidence that the Wutai Complex originated and evolved separately from the Fuping Complex. The Wutai Complex most likely formed as an oceanic island arc with volcanism and synvolcanic granitoid intrusions at 2555–2525 Ma. The Wutai Complex was subsequently accreted onto the Eastern Archean Continental Block, and was probably responsible for crustal thickening and TTG magmatism at 2523–2486 Ma in the Fuping Complex (as part of the Taihangshan–Hengshan block), at the western margin of the Eastern Archean Continental Block.  相似文献

Major elements, highly siderophile elements (HSE) and Re-Os isotope ratios were analysed in situ on individual sulfide grains in spinel peridotite xenoliths hosted by Miocene intraplate basalts from the Penghu Islands, Taiwan. The xenoliths represent texturally and compositionally different mantle domains, and the geochemical characteristics of the sulfides show changes in HSE distribution and Re-Os isotope systematics, produced as their host rocks were metasomatised by percolating fluids/melts. In prophyroclastic and partly metasomatised peridotites from the Kueipi (KP) locality, the sulfides have subchondritic to superchondritic 187Re/188Os and 187Os/188Os ratios. Many of these sulfides reflect fluid/melt interaction with residual MSS and/or crystallization of fractionated sulfide melts, which produced high contents of Cu and PPGEs and high Re/Os; inferred melt/rock ratios are low. In contrast, sulfides in equigranular and extensively metasomatised peridotites from the Tungchiyu (TCY) locality are mainly more sulfur-rich Ni-(Co)-rich MSS, with subchondritic to chondritic 187Os/188Os and subchondritic 187Re/188Os. These sulfides are interpreted as products of interaction between pre-existing MSS and percolating silicate melts. Melt/rock ratios were high and the percolating melt was less differentiated than the melt that percolated the KP peridotites. Sulfides in a TCY pyroxenite are mainly MSS; they have the lowest HSE contents, subchondritic to superchondritic 187Os/188Os and subchondritic 187Re/188Os, and may have precipitated from sulfide melts that segregated from basaltic melts under S-saturated conditions. In most sulfides melt percolation appears to have induced fractionation among the HSEs and disturbed Re-Os isotope compositions. Despite the metasomatic effects, rare residual MSS, sulfides that from crystallised sulfide melts and sulfides modified by addition of Re (with no evidence for Os addition) can still provide useful chronological information. Such sulfides yield TRD age peaks of 1.9, 1.7-1.6, 1.4-1.3 and 0.9-0.8 Ga, which may record the timing of melt extraction and/or metasomatic events in the mantle. These periods are contemporaneous with the major crustal events recorded by U-Pb dates and Nd and Hf model ages in the overlying crust. This close correspondence indicates that the sulfide TRD ages reflect the timing of lithosphere-scale tectonothermal events (such as melting and metasomatism) that affected both the lithospheric mantle and the overlying crust. The sulfide TRD ages, taken together with the crustal data, suggest that most of the Cathaysia block had formed at least by Paleo-Proterozoic time, and that some domains are Archean in age.  相似文献

The Maevatanana greenstone belt in north-central Madagascar contains widespread exposures of tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite(TTG) gneisses, and is important for its concentrations of various metal deposits(e.g.,chromium,nickle,iron,gold).In this paper we report on the petrography, and major and trace element compositions of the TTG gneisses within the Berere Complex of the Maevatanana area,as well as LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages and Lu-Hf isotopic compositions of zircons from the gneisses. The gneisses consist mainly of granitoid gneiss and biotite(±hornblende) plagiogneiss, and analysis of thin sections provides evidence of crushing, recrystallization, and metasomatism related to dynamic metamorphism.Samples have large variations in their major and trace element contents, with SiO_2 = 55.87-68.06 wt%,Al_2O_3 = 13.9-17.8 wt%,and Na_2O/K_2O =0.97-2.13.Geochemically,the granitoid gneisses and biotite plagiogneisses fall on a low-Al trondhjemite to granodiorite trend, while the biotite-hornblende plagiogneisses represent a high-Al tonalite TTG assemblage.Zircon U-Pb dating shows that the Berere Complex TTG gneisses formed at2.5-2.4 Ga.Most ε_(Hf(t)) values of zircons from the biotite(± hornblende) plagiogneisses are positive, while most ε_(Hf(t)) values from the granitoid gneisses are negative, suggesting a degree of crustal contamination.Two-stage Hf model ages suggest that the age of the protolith of the TTG gneisses was ca.3.4-2.6 Ga,representing a period of paleocontinent formation in the Mesoarchean.Geothermometries indicate the temperature of metamorphism of the TTG gneisses was 522-612℃.Based on these data, the protolith of the TTG gneisses is inferred to have formed during the development of a Mesoarchean paleocontinent that is now widely exposed as a TTG gneiss belt(mostly lower amphibolite facies) in the Maevatanana area, and which records a geological evolution related to the subduction of an ancient oceanic crust and the collision of microcontinents during the formation of the Rodinia supercontinent. The lithological similarity of Precambrian basement, the close ages of metamorphism within greenstone belts and the comparable distribution of metamorphic grade all show a pronounced Precambrian geology similarity between Madagascar and India, which can provide significative clues in understanding the possible Precambrian Supercontinent tectonics, and also important constraints on the correlation of the two continental fragments.  相似文献

This paper presents rare earth element (REE) geochemistry of siliceous deposits from which hydrothermal activity and basin evolution are elucidated, in the Late Devonian, in the Yangshuo basin, South China, where siliceous deposits widely occurred as nodular chert in the deep-water limestones and bedded chert interbeded with tuffaceous chert in the early Late Devonian. Both nodular and bedded cherts are characterized by very low La abundances (avg. 2.07 and 2.49 ppm, respectively), intermediate negative Ce anomalies (Ce/Ce*: avg. 0. 69 and 0.61), slight to intermediate positive Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu*: avg. 1.33 and 1.57), and low to intermediate shale-normalized Lan/Ybn values (avg. 0.86 and 0.52) and intermediate Lan/Cen values (avg. 1.61 and 1.72). These suggest both nodular and bedded cherts formed in the open marine basin of South China, rather than in the intracontinental rift basin as previously assumed, with involvement both with seawaters as indicated by intermediate negative Ce anomalies and generally LREE-depleted patterns, and hydrothermal vent fluids as indicated by convex, less LREE-depleted patterns with apparent positive Eu anomalies. In comparison with nodular and bedded chert, the tuffaceous chert has the highest La abundances (avg. 17.11 ppm), similar ranges of Ce anomalies (avg. 0.63) and Lan/Cen values (avg. 1.77), but lower Lan/Ybn values (avg. 0.48) and no apparent positive Eu anomalies (avg. 0.97). This suggests that the tuffaceous fallouts were also significantly modified by the hydrothermal fluid and seawater. Rapid spatial variations of Eu/Eu* values and degree of LREE-depletions in the studied basin are recognized, characterizing a spatially differential hydothermal activity that is not well discriminated by major element features. Such a difference in hydrothermal activity is interpreted as having been related to the intensity and depth of syndepositional tectonic activity, reconciling the structural pattern unraveled by stratigraphic packages.  相似文献

We report new zircon U–Pb geochronologic and Hf-isotopic data, and whole-rock major and trace element data, for the Labuco granitoids of the southern margin of the Southern Qiangtang terrane (SQ), Tibet. Five intermediate–felsic samples yielded zircon U–Pb ages of 169–156 Ma, making the Labuco granitoids contemporaneous with Middle–Late Jurassic magmatism in the SQ. The granitoids exhibit a range of zircon εHf(t) values from − 7.3 to − 0.6. The samples from Labuco can be divided into low-Sr/Y granitoids (LSG) and high-Sr/Y granitoids (HSG). The LSG are normal calc-alkaline I-type granitoids, characterized by varying major and trace element contents indicative of partial melting of ancient mafic lower crust. The HSG are characterized by high Sr/Y ratios (64–75), (La/Yb)N (chondrite-normalized) ratios of 57–76, and (Gd/Yb)N ratios of 6.6–8.9. These signatures indicate that the HSG were derived by partial melting of garnet-bearing thickened lower crust. The across-arc variation in magma geochemistry in the SQ was caused by tectonic shortening and crustal thickening, which occurred as a result of the northward subduction of the Bangong–Nujiang Ocean lithosphere during the Middle–Late Jurassic. These results have important implications for our understanding of tectonic shortening, crustal thickening, and the geometry of modern and ancient subduction zones.

As part of Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), the Central Tianshan zone plays a crucial role in the reconstruction of the tectonic evolution of the CAOB. Furthermore, it is bordered by the Tarim Craton to the south, and the comparable evolutionary history between them enables the Central Tianshan zone to provide essential information on the crustal evolution of the Tarim Craton. The eastern segment of the Central Tianshan tectonic zone is characterized by the presence of numerous Precambrian metamorphic rocks, among which the Xingxingxia Group is the most representative one. The granitoids gneisses, intruded into the Xingxingxia Group, consist of two major lithological assemblages: (1) biotite-monzonitic gneisses and (2) biotite-plagioclase gneisses. These metamorphosed granitoid rocks are characterized by enrichment in SiO2, Al2O3 and K2O and depletion in MgO and FeOT. The Rittmann index (σ) spreads between 1.44 and 2.21 and ACNK (Al2O3/(CaO + Na2O + K2O)) ranges from 1.03 to 1.08, indicating that these granitoid gneisses are high-K calc-alkaline and peraluminous. Trace element data indicate that the studied samples are enriched in LREE with moderate REE fractionated patterns ((La/Yb)N = 10.5–75.3). The concentrations of HREE of the garnet-bearing gneisses are significantly higher than those of garnet-free gneisses. The former show pronounced negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.32–0.57), while the latter are characterized by negligible negative Eu anomalies to moderate positive Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.80–1.35). In addition, the enrichment of LILE (Rb, Th, K, Pb) and depletion of HFSE (Ta, Nb, P, Ti) of the examined granitoid gneisses are similar to typical volcanic-arc granites. Zircons U–Pb dating on the biotite monzonitic gneiss yields a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 942.4 ± 5.1 Ma, suggesting their protoliths were formed in the early Neoproterozoic, which is compatible with the time of the assembly of supercontinent Rodinia. The zircons have a large εHf(t) variation from −5.6 to +3.2, suggesting that both old crust-derived magmas and mantle-derived juvenile materials contributed to the formation of their protoliths. Based on field observation, and petrological, geochemical and geochronological investigations, we infer that the granitoid gneisses from Xingxingxia were probably formed on a continental arc that resulted from the interaction of Australia and the Tarim Craton during the assembly of the Rodinia supercontinent, and that the Central Tianshan zone was a part of the Tarim Craton during that time. Besides, the Grenvillian orogenic events may have developed better in the Tarim Craton than previously expected.  相似文献
