The KAr isochron method is an attempt to obtain the initial age or reset age and the extraneous argon isotopic ratio of a suite of cogenetic samples of different K-contents. Some samples contain excess argon-40 and others lose argon-40. The resultant ages on single samples are not significant geologically. We have discussed the principles of three types of isochrons commonly used, the 40Ar vs 40K isochron, the 40Ar/36Ar vs 40K/30Ar isochron, and the 40Ar/36Ar vs 39Ar/36Ar isochron, and evaluated the first two types for ten different hypothetical cases. If a straight line is obtained in the 40Ar vs 40K isochron, a positive intercept indicates an approximately constant amount of excess argon, whereas a negative intercept indicates argon loss. A curved line or scattering of points indicates that the basic assumptions are not valid for the set of samples under consideration. The 40Ar/36Ar vs 40K/36Ar isochron method is valid, rigorously, only when all samples of the system under consideration have the same non-radiogenic argon isotope composition. This requires that either no excess argon is present in the system, or else each analysis contains the same proportion of excess and atmospheric argon. If these conditions do not hold, approximately, invalid ages and invalid intercepts are obtained. Any KAr isochron needs to be used with caution.  相似文献

The ambient pressure elastic properties of single-crystal TiO2 rutile are reported from room temperature (RT) to 1800 K, extending by more than 1200 oK the maximum temperature for which rutile elasticity data are available. The magnitudes of the temperature derivatives decrease with increasing temperature for five of the six adiabatic elastic moduli (C ij ). At RT, we find (units, GPa): C 11=268(1); C 33=484(2); C 44=123.8(2); C 66=190.2(5); C 23=147(1); and C 12=175(1). The temperature derivatives (units, GPa K−1) at RT are: (∂C 11/∂T) P =−0.042(5); (∂C 33/∂T) P =−0.087(6); (∂C 44/∂T) P =−0.0187(2); (∂C 66/∂T) P =−0.067(2); (∂C 23/∂T) P =−0.025; and (∂C 12/∂T) P −0.048(5). The values for K S (adiabatic bulk modulus) and μ (isotropic shear modulus) and their temperature derivatives are K S =212(1) GPa; μ=113(1) GPa; (∂K S /∂T) P =−0.040(4) GPa K−1; and (∂μ/∂T) P =−0.018(1) GPa K−1. We calculate several dimensionless parameters over a large temperature range using our new data. The unusually high values for the Anderson-Gròneisen parameters at room temperature decrease with increasing temperature. At high T, however, these parameters are still well above those for most other oxides. We also find that for TiO2, anharmonicity, as evidenced by a non-zero value of [∂ln (K T )/∂lnV] T , is insignificant at high T, implying that for the TiO2 analogue of stishovite, thermal pressure is independent of volume (or pressure). Systematic relations indicate that ∂2 K S /∂TP is as high as 7×10−4 K−1 for rutile, whereas ∂2μ/∂TP is an order of magnitude less. The glaucony series (of which glauconitic mica is the K-rich end member) is one of the few widely occurring minerals in the sedimentary record. So their isotopic ages determined mainly by the K–Ar method represent a major database for the geologic time scale. Many K–Ar ages were, however, found to be too young and often also discordant with available corresponding Rb–Sr ages. This discrepancy may reflect the disparate responses of the chemically contrasting daughter elements, Ar and Sr to postdepositional processes, and renders either age equivocal. A potentially promising approach to evaluate the intrinsic potential of glauconies and other K-rich minerals for direct and reliable dating of sediments is the conjunctive use of the chemically very similar K–Ca and Rb–Sr systems. The relationship between K–Ca and Rb–Sr ages may show a coherence or regularity indicative of a geologically meaningful age like in the case of the well known chemically identical dual U–Pb decay systems. As a crucial first step, this report presents the first successful precise K–Ca dating in conjunction with Rb–Sr dating of an Ordovician glauconite using the same sample aliquot, chemical procedure and mass spectrometer.  相似文献

The results of spot-coverage modeling for 13 active G–K dwarf stars based on many-year photometric observations are presented. The results of UBVRI observations of eight stars performed at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory were used together with data from the literature in this analysis. The spot-coverage parameters for 13 selected BY Dra active red dwarfs have been redetermined to improve the zonal spot-coverage model for the stellar photospheres, which currently allows for the presence of two active longitudes. Time variations of the spot-activity characteristics of these systems were analyzed with the aim of searching for possible cyclic variations. All the stars, with the exception of OU Gem and BE Cet, show fairly strong correlations between variations in the spot latitudes and spot areas, with absolute values of the correlation coefficients, R(〈?〉, S), ranging from 0.38 to 0.92. For five stars, an anti-correlation between the mean latitude and area of the spots was found (R(〈?〉, S) from–0.24 to–0.73). This behavior may reflect the drift of spots toward the equator in the course of their development. Eight stars feature positive correlations, i.e. the spots drift towards the pole as their areas increase. Nine stars demonstrate activity cycles, which are reflected in photometric variations as well as variations of the spot areas and mean latitudes. The periods of the latitude drift of the spots are found for five stars; the magnitudes of the spot-latitude drift rates are lower than the corresponding value for sunspots by a factor of 1.5–3.  相似文献

To investigate the equation of state of -MnS at high pressure and the possibility of a phase transition, the compression curve was measured at 298 K from 0 to 21 GPa using powder x-ray diffraction with a diamond anvil cell. The compression data are fit to a thirdorder Birch-Murnaghan equation of state, with parameters K 0 = 72(2) GPa and K 0 = 4.2(13). To compare present results with previous work, the data sets from three previous investigations (Clendenen and Drickamer 1966; Wakabayashi et al. 1968; Kraft and Greuling 1988) are refit to a Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. The exchage equilibrium has been used to measure activity-composition relations along the olivine join FeSi0.5O2−MgSi0.5O2 at 1400 K and 1 atm pressure. Equilibrium Fe−Mg partitioning between the two phases was determined by reversing the compositions of olivine coexisting with oxide and matallic iron over the composition range Fo23 to Fo92. A detailed study of the thermodynamic properties of the oxide phase has recently been made by Srečec et al. and we have confirmed their results in the composition range of interest. Application of the oxide data to the exchange equilibrium enables the properties of olivine to be determined. Within experimental uncertainly (Fe, Mg)Si0.5O2 olivine can, at 1400 K, be treated as a symmetric solution with W Fe-Mg o1 of 3.7±0.8 kJ/mol. The data permit the presence of only very slight asymmetry in the series. The data do not support recent assertions that olivine is highly non-ideal (W≈10 kJ/mol) under these conditions.  相似文献

White mica (phengite and paragonite) K–Ar ages of eclogite-facies Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks (15 eclogitic rocks and eight associated pelitic schists) from four different localities yielded ages of 84–89 Ma (Seba, central Shikoku), 78–80 Ma (Nishi-Iratsu, central Shikoku), 123 and 136 Ma (Gongen, central Shikoku), and 82–88 Ma (Kotsu/Bizan, eastern Shikoku). With the exception of a quartz-rich kyanite-bearing eclogite from Gongen, white mica ages overlap with the previously known range of phengite K–Ar ages of pelitic schists of the Sanbagawa metamorphic belt and can be distinguished from those of the Shimanto metamorphic belt. The similarity of K–Ar ages between the eclogites and surrounding pelitic schists supports a geological setting wherein the eclogites experienced intense ductile deformation with pelitic schists during exhumation. In contrast, phengite extracted from the Gongen eclogite, which is less overprinted by a ductile shear deformation during exhumation, yielded significantly older ages. Given that the Gongen eclogite is enclosed by the Higashi-Akaishi meta-peridotite body, these K–Ar ages are attributed to excess 40Ar gained during an interaction between the eclogite and host meta-peridotite with mantle-derived noble gas (very high 40Ar/36Ar ratio) at eclogite-facies depth. Fluid exchange between deep-subducted sediments and mantle material might have enhanced the gain of mantle-derived extreme 40Ar in the meta-sediment. Although dynamic recrystallization of white mica can reset the Ar isotope system, limited-argon-depletion due to lesser degrees of ductile shear deformation of the Gongen eclogite might have prevented complete release of the trapped excess argon from phengites. This observation supports a model of deformation-controlled K–Ar closure temperature.  相似文献

Cenozoic volcanic rocks widespread in eastern China constitute an important part of the circum-Pacific volcanic belt.This paper presents more than 150K-Ar dates and a great deal of petrochemical analysis data from the Cenozoic volcanic rocks distributed in Tengchong,China‘s southeast coast,Shandong,Hebei,Nei Monggol and Northeast China.An integrated study shows that ubiquitous but uneven volcanic activities prevailed from the Eogene to the Holocene,characterized as being multi-eqisodic and multicycled.For example,in the Paleocene(67-58Ma),Eocene(57-37.5Ma),Miocene(22-18,16-19Ma),Pliocene(8-3Ma),and Early Pleistocene-Middle Pleistocene(1.2-0.5Ma) there were upsurges of volcanism,while in the Oligocene there was a repose period.In space,the older Eogene volcanic rocks are distributed within the region or in the central part of the NE-NNE-striking fault depression,while the younger Neogene and Quaternary volcanic rocks are distributed in the eastern and western parts.Petrologically,they belong essentially to tholeiite-series and alkali-series basalts,with alkalinity in the rocks increasing from old to youg.The above regularities are controlled by both global plate movement and regional inherent tectonic pattern.  相似文献

Enrichment in K2O in oceanic island basalts (OIB) is correlated with high SiO2, low CaO/Al2O3, and radiogenic isotopic signatures indicative of enriched mantle sources (EM1 and EM2). These are also chemical characteristics of the petit-spot lavas, which are highly enriched in K2O (3–4 wt%) compared to other primitive oceanic basalts. We present experimentally derived liquids with varying concentrations of K2O in equilibrium with a garnet lherzolite residue at 3 GPa to test the hypothesis that the major element characteristics of EM-type basalts are related to their enrichment in K2O. SiO2 is known to increase with K2O at pressures less than 3 GPa, but it was previously unknown if this effect was significant at the high pressures associated with partial melting at the base of the lithosphere. We find that at 3 GPa for each 1 wt% increase in the K2O content of a garnet lherzolite saturated melt, SiO2 increases by ~0.5 wt% and CaO decreases by ~0.5 wt%. MgO and $K_{D}^{{{\text{Fe}} - {\text{Mg}}}}$ K D Fe - Mg each decrease slightly with K2O concentration, as do Na2O and Cr2O3. The effect of K2O alone is not strong enough to account for the SiO2 and CaO signatures associated with high-K2O OIB. The SiO2, CaO, and K2O concentrations of experimentally derived partial melts presented here resemble those of petit-spot lavas, but the Al2O3 concentrations from the experimental melts are greater. Partitioning of K2O between peridotite and melt suggests that petit spots, previously considered to sample ambient asthenosphere, require a source more enriched in K2O than the MORB source.  相似文献

Lake Seyfe is located in a closed basin near K?r?ehir in the central Anatolian region, Turkey. The aim of this study is to evaluate the groundwater quality and effects of lithogenic contamination carried out in the Lake Seyfe basin, which is represented by various lithologies and groundwater types. Seyfe, Horla and Akp?nar springs are recharged through marbles at the western and southwestern of the basin are ultimately and discharged into the K?z?l?rmak Formation and Lake Seyfe. The waters of deep wells drilled into the marbles are of bicarbonate type (type I) in the Ca2+–Mg2+–HCO3 ? and Ca2+–HCO3 ? facies. Özlühüyük spring and waters from most of trenches and shallow wells, which are fed by the K?z?l?rmak Formation, have a mixed (type II) composition in the Ca2+–Mg2+–HCO3 ?–Cl? facies. Groundwater in the alluvium and K?z?l?rmak Formation along Lake Seyfe has a salty (type III) character in the Na+–Cl? facies. The main reasons of formation and change of the groundwater salinity and hydrochemical facies in the Seyfe basin are causing the various (a) lithogenic pollution and heterogeneity of the K?z?l?rmak Formation, (b) salinity of the upper soil zones, and (c) evaporation of the trench and channel waters open to the atmosphere. Considering parameters such as sodium hazard, specific conductivity, bicarbonate and carbonate hazards, waters in the study area are generally suitable for agricultural usage.  相似文献

Uranium mining in southeastern Germany resulted in significant environmental risks. Closure of the mines and subsequent rises of water levels may result in heavy-metal and radionuclide-bearing mine waters penetrating aquifers that are used for water supply. While there are certain (geo-)technical constraints on the schedule with which flooding of the mines can proceed, this process must not result in aggravating the problem of metal release. Evaluation of the likely 'natural' geochemical situation of Königstein mine after mining has ceased, and different scenarios for the release of metals indicates that rapid flooding, albeit avoiding unnecessary aeration of the waters, is likely to result in reducing conditions and consequently low U-solubilities.  相似文献

Soil losses and siltation of the hydrological system (watershed–dam) of K’sob were obtained using direct and indirect methods. The Wadi K’sob watershed of 1,484 km2, average slope of 0.14, and average elevation of 1,060 m is located in a semiarid climate. The average annual rainfall is 341 mm and the mean annual water discharge is 0.89 m3/s. Data from the Medjez gauging station located 6 km upstream of the dam, are the daily liquid flow and instantaneous concentrations of suspended sediments. Over a time period from 1973 to 2010, the relationship between water and sediment discharges is quantified by the equation: Q s?=?5.6 Q 1.31. Thus, in view of the availability data on a daily scale, the assessment of soil erodibility of the K’sob watershed was used to estimate specific soil losses of 203 t?km?2?year?1or 301,000 t eroded annually from the K’sob basin. The bathymetric measurements of the sediment volumes deposited in the K’sob dam, has quantified the annual siltation of 0.8 hm3, corresponding to an average erodibility of the K’sob watershed of 809 t?km?2?year?1. However, when adding the volume of sediment removed by the dredging operation and de-silting by the valves during heavy floods, the value of soil losses is 2,780 t?km?2?year?1. The indirect assessment of soil erodibility of the basin was obtained by applying two models: the quantitative geomorphological analysis (QGA) and PISA model (prediction of silting in the artificial reservoirs, in Italian: Previsioni dell’Interimento nei Serbatoi Artificiali) using physical and climatic factors in the watershed. The obtained results by QGA method underestimate specific soil losses of 524 t?km?2?year?1. The PISA model gives a value of 2,915 t?km?2?year?1, which is close to the value obtained by bathymetric measurements. This study concludes that PISA model is most suitable to estimate soil loss and siltation of the K’sob hydrological system.  相似文献

Knowledge of the transport behavior of radionuclides in groundwater is needed for both groundwater protection and remediation of abandoned uranium mines and milling sites. Dispersion, diffusion, mixing, recharge to the aquifer, and chemical interactions, as well as radioactive decay, should be taken into account to obtain reliable predictions on transport of primordial nuclides in groundwater. This paper demonstrates the need for carrying out rehabilitation strategies before closure of the Königstein in-situ leaching uranium mine near Dresden, Germany. Column experiments on drilling cores with uranium-enriched tap water provided data about the exchange behavior of uranium. Uranium breakthrough was observed after more than 20 pore volumes. This strong retardation is due to the exchange of positively charged uranium ions. The code TReAC is a 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D reactive transport code that was modified to take into account the radioactive decay of uranium and the most important daughter nuclides, and to include double-porosity flow. TReAC satisfactorily simulated the breakthrough curves of the column experiments and provided a first approximation of exchange parameters. Groundwater flow in the region of the Königstein mine was simulated using the FLOWPATH code. Reactive transport behavior was simulated with TReAC in one dimension along a 6000-m path line. Results show that uranium migration is relatively slow, but that due to decay of uranium, the concentration of radium along the flow path increases. Results are highly sensitive to the influence of double-porosity flow.  相似文献

This study is aimed at determining the diffusion coefficient of net-work modifiers (mainly Na, K, and Ca) in a two-phase melt-NaCl system, in which the melts are granitic and the system is NaCl-rich in composition. The diffusion coefficients of Na, K, and Ca were measured at the temperatures of 750 – 1400°C, pressures of 0.001 × 108 – 2 × 108 Pa, and initial H2O contents of 0 wt% –6.9 wt% in the granitic melts. The diffusion coefficients of Fe and Mg were difficult to resolve. In all experiments a NaCl melt was present as well. In the absence of H2O, the diffusion of net-work modifiers follows an Arrhanious equation at 1 × 105 Pa: lgDca=−3. 88−5140/T, lgDk =−3. 79−4040/T, and lgDNa, =−4.99−3350/T, where D is in cm2 /s andT is in K. The diffusion coefficients of Ca, Na, K, and Fe increase non-linearly with increasing H2O content in the melt. The presence of about 2 wt% H2O m the melt will lead to a dramatical increase in diffusivity, but higher H2O content has only a minor effect. This change is probably the result of a change in the melt structure when H2O is present. The diffusion coefficients measured in this study are significantly different from those in previous works. This may be understood in terms of the “transient two-liquid equilibrium” theory. Element interdiffusion depends not only on its concentration, but also on its activity co-efficient gradient, which is reflected by the distribution coefficient, of the two contacting melts.  相似文献
