The H.E.S.S. array of imaging Cherenkov telescopes has discovered a number of previously unknown γ-ray sources in the very high energy (VHE) domain above 100 GeV. The good angular resolution of H.E.S.S. (∼0.1° per event), as well as its sensitivity (a few percent of the Crab Nebula flux) and wide 5° field of view, allow a much better constrained search for counterparts in comparison to previous instruments. In several cases, the association of the VHE sources revealed by H.E.S.S. with pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) is supported by a combination of positional and morphological evidence, multi-wavelength observations, and plausible PWN model parameters. These include the plerions in the composite supernova remnants G 0.9+0.1 and MSH 15–52, the recently discovered Vela X nebula, two new sources in the Kookaburra complex, and the association of HESS J1825–137 with PSR B1823–13. The properties of these better-established associations are reviewed. A number of other sources discovered by H.E.S.S. are located near high spin-down power pulsars, but the evidence for association is less complete. We present the results of our optical identification of two X-ray sources from the RXTE and INTEGRAL all-sky surveys: XSS J00564+4548 and IGR J00234+6141. Using optical observations with the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT150) and publicly accessible X-ray data from the SWIFT Orbital Observatory, we show that these sources are most likely intermediate polars, i.e., binary systems with accreting white dwarfs that possess a moderately strong magnetic field (≲10 MG). We have found periodic optical oscillations with periods of ≈480 and ≈570 s. These periods most likely correspond to the rotation periods of the white dwarfs in these systems. Further optical RTT150 observations of these systems will allow their parameters to be studied in more detail. We have computed and studied the mosaic correlation maps of the ILC WMAP microwave background data with the positions of infrared and submillimeter sources. Using the histograms of the signal values in pixels and angular power spectra, we studied the statistical properties of these maps. We discovered similar behavior of a number of harmonics in the maps of correlations with the FSC IRAS, 2MASX and Planck catalog objects. The most prominent multipoles among them, which may reflect the actual distribution of radiation sources are the = 6 for the FSC and Planck data, and = 3 for the Planck source data.  相似文献

We present results of the ATCA IDV Survey of southern extragalactic radio sources. We discuss briefly the properties of the 22 new intraday variable sources discovered in the Survey. The follow-up observations of a few extreme examples of strong intraday variability are presented. We find that the characteristics of the total flux density fluctuations at different wavelengths are consistent with intersteller scintillations (ISS) of the microarcsecondsize soorten components. However, the scintillating components of a few extreme IDVs are characterized by the brightness temperatures far exceeding the T B=1012 K limit. The relativistic beaming invoked in such sources would require Doppler factors up to as high as δ∼ 103. Observations of the inner radian of the Galactic disk at very high energy (VHE) gamma-rays have revealed at least 16 new sources. Besides shell type super-nova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae (PWN) appear to be a dominant source population in the catalogue of VHE gamma-ray sources. Except for the Crab nebula, the newly discovered PWN are resolved at VHE gamma-rays to be spatially extended (5–20 pc). Currently, at least 3 middle aged (t>10 kyrs) PWN (Vela X, G18.0-0.7, and G313.3+0.6 in the “Kookaburra” region) and 1 young PWN MSH 15-52 (t=1.55 kyrs) have been identified to be VHE emitting PWN (sometimes called “TeV Plerions”). Two more candidate “TeV Plerions” have been identified and have been reported at this conference (Carrigan, These proceedings, in preparation). In this contribution, the gamma-ray emission from Vela X is explained by a nucleonic component in the pulsar wind. The measured broad band spectral energy distribution is compared with the expected X-ray emission from primary and secondary electrons. The observed X-ray emission and TeV emission from the three middle aged PWN are compared with each other.  相似文献

We use two independent methods to reduce the data of the surveys made with RATAN-600 radio telescope at 7.6 cm in 1988–1999 at the declination of the SS433 source. We also reprocess the data of the “Cold” survey (1980–1981). The resulting RCR (RATAN COLD REFINED) catalog contains the right ascensions and fluxes of objects identified with those of the NVSS catalog in the right-ascension interval 7 h ≤ R.A. < 17 h . We obtain the spectra of the radio sources and determine their spectral indices at 3.94 and 0.5 GHz. The spectra are based on the data from all known catalogs available from the CATS, Vizier, and NED databases, and the flux estimates inferred from the maps of the VLSS and GB6 surveys. For 245 of the 550 objects of the RCR catalog the fluxes are known at two frequencies only: 3.94 GHz (RCR) and 1.4 GHz (NVSS). These are mostly sources with fluxes smaller than 30mJy. About 65% of these sources have flat or inverse spectra (α > −0.5). We analyze the reliability of the results obtained for the entire list of objects and construct the histograms of the spectral indices and fluxes of the sources. Our main conclusion is that all 10–15 mJy objects found in the considered right-ascension interval were already included in the decimeter-wave catalogs.  相似文献

We present a multiwavelength study of the environment of the unidentified X-ray/γ-ray sources IGR J18027–1455 and IGR J21247 + 5058, recently discovered by the IBIS/ISGRI instrument, onboard the INTEGRAL satellite. The excellent spatial resolution of the Chandra observatory offers the unprecedented possibility to measure proper motions at X-ray wavelength with relatively high accuracy using as reference the background of extragalactic or remote galactic X-ray sources. We took advantage of this capability to constrain the proper motion of RX J0806.4-4123 and RX J0420.0-5022, two X-ray bright and radio quiet isolated neutron stars (INSs) discovered by ROSAT and lacking an optical counterpart. In this paper, we present results from a preliminary analysis from which we derive 2σ upper limits of 76 mas/yr and 138 mas/yr on the proper motions of RX J0806.4-4123 and RX J0420.0-5022 respectively. We use these values together with those of other ROSAT discovered INSs to constrain the origin, distance and evolutionary status of this particular group of objects. We find that the tangential velocities of radio quiet ROSAT neutron stars are probably consistent with those of ‘normal’ pulsars. Their distribution on the sky and, for those having accurate proper motion vectors, their possible birth places, all point to a local population, probably created in the part of the Gould Belt nearest to the earth.   相似文献

We carried out a search for peak in homogeneities in the distribution of matter – namely clumps and voids, within the range Z ∼ 1-3. We used a new method, based on the lensing of quasars by a combination of lenses, belonging to the above sought in homogeneities in the matter distribution. This work confirms the evidence of the existence of in homogeneities found by us earlier – of a clump (superattractor N.1), and of a void(supervoid). Besides, the existence of a new gigantic clump (superattractorN.2) was also discovered at Z ∼ 3. These clumps could well serve ascenters of the Bose-condensation in the early Universe; in particular –as Anselm's arion condensate, which leads to the formation of quasiperiodic structures with a period p ∼ 100-200 Mpc. We present photometric observations of four stars that are optical counterparts of soft X-ray/EUV sources, namely 1ES 0829+15.9, 1ES0920-13.6, 2RE J1 10159+223509 and 1ES 1737+61.2. We have discovered periodic variability in two of the stars, viz., MCC 527 (1ES 0829+15.9; Period = 0 d .828 ± 0.0047) and HD 81032 (1ES 0920-13.6; Period = ∼ 57.02 ± 0.560 days). HD 95559 (2RE J1 10159+223509) is found to show a period of 3 d . HD 160934 (1ES1737+61.2) also shows photometric variability but needs to be monitored further for finding its period. These stars most likely belong to the class of chromospherically active stars.  相似文献

Ultraluminous X-ray sources fed by Wolf-Rayet star winds and X-ray bursters in ultracompact binaries with He or C white dwarfs have accretion disks whose properties may differ significantly from those of pure Hα-accretion disks. Therefore, we have included the dependence on charge number Z and mean molecular weights μe/I in the Shakura and Sunyaev (1973) scaling relations for the key parameters of the disk. Furthermore, we also consider the pseudo-Newtonian potential of Paczyńsky and Wiita (1980). These scaling relations might become useful, e.g., when estimating the illumination efficiency of the outer parts of the disk. We also address the changes in the structure of the boundary (spreading) layer on the surfaces of neutron stars that occurs in the case of H-depleted accretion disks. A remarkable number of pulsar wind nebulae (PWN) are coincident with EGRET γ-ray sources. X-ray and radio imaging studies of unidentified EGRET sources have resulted in the discovery of at least six new pulsar wind nebulae (PWN). Stationary PWN (SPWN) appear to be associated with steady EGRET sources with hard spectra, typical for γ-ray pulsars. Their toroidal morphologies can help determine the geometry of the pulsar which is useful for constraining models of pulsed γ-ray emission. Rapidly moving PWN (RPWN) with more cometary morphologies seem to be associated with variable EGRET sources in regions where the ambient medium is dense compared to what is typical for the ISM.  相似文献

The evolution of the solar corona is dominated to a large extent by the hugely complicated magnetic field which threads it. Magnetic topology provides a tool to decipher the structure of this field and thus help to understand its behaviour. Usually, the magnetic topology of a potential field is calculated due to flux sources on a locally planar photospheric surface. We use a Green's function method to extend this theory to sources on a global spherical surface. The case of two bipolar flux-balanced source regions is studied in detail, with an emphasis on how the distribution and relative strengths of the source regions affect the resulting topological states. A new state with two spatially distinct separators connecting the same two magnetic null points, called the “dual intersecting“ state, is discovered. We present the radio-optical imaging of ATLBS, a sensitive radio survey (Subrahmanyan et al. 2010). The primary aim of the ATLBS survey is to image low-power radio sources which form the bulk of the radio source population to moderately high red-shifts (z ∼ 1.0). The accompanying multiband optical and near infra-red observations provide information about the hosts and environments of the radio sources. V2213 Cyg was discovered as a variable star by Pavlenko (1999) in 1998. We present our photometry of V2213 Cyg from 1998–2003 based on CCD observations with the K-380 Cassegrain telescope of CrAO and the 60 cm Zeiss telescope of SAI. Observations have been carried out mostly in R and sometimes in B and V Johnson system. The total amount of data is 2270 points, covering ∼50 nights. We classify this binary as a W UMa-type contact system. Using all data we determined the orbital period to be 0.350079 ± 0.000007 day. The mean brightness varies between R = 14.35 and 14.05. The mean 1999–2003 orbital light curve has two humps and a primary minimum (I), which is 0.04 mag brighter than the deeper secondary one (II). The mean humps have slightly different height. The difference between two individual maxima varies within 0.1 mag, which may indicate an activity of the components. The highest hump is an asymmetrical one: it has sort of a shoulder at phases 0.75–0.80, before entering the less deep primary minimum (phase 0.0). The system is rather reddened, its colour indices are: BV ∼ 0.8 and VR ∼ 0.7, and give a spectral class of V2213 Cyg earlier than K.  相似文献

Amongst the sources seen in very high gamma-rays several are associated with Pulsar Wind Nebulae (“TeV plerions”). The study of hard X-ray/soft gamma-ray emission is providing an important insight into the energetic particle population present in these objects. The unpulsed emission from pulsar/pulsar wind nebula systems in the energy range accessible to the INTEGRAL satellite is mainly synchrotron emission from energetic and fast cooling electrons close to their acceleration site. Our analyses of public INTEGRAL data of known TeV plerions detected by ground based Cherenkov telescopes indicate a deeper link between these TeV plerions and INTEGRAL detected pulsar wind nebulae. The newly discovered TeV plerion in the northern wing of the Kookaburra region (G313.3+0.6 powered by the middle aged PSR J1420-6048) is found to have a previously unknown INTEGRAL counterpart which is besides the Vela pulsar the only middle aged pulsar detected with INTEGRAL. We do not find an INTEGRAL counterpart of the TeV plerion associated with the X-ray PWN “Rabbit” G313.3+0.1 which is possibly powered by a young pulsar.  相似文献

In this study we attempt to assess the possibility of detection of variable sources using the data of the 7.6-cm wavelength surveys carried out on the RATAN-600 radio telescope in the period from 1980 through 1994. Objects selected according to certain criteria from the RCR catalog are used to construct the calibration curves and to estimate the accuracy of the resulting calibration curves and determine the r.m.s. errors for the measured source flux densities. To check the calibration sources for the presence of variable objects, quantitative estimates are performed for a number of parameters that characterize variability, in particular, for the long-term variability index V and the χ 2 (chi-square) probability p. The long-term variability index was found to be positive for 14 out of approximately 80 calibration sources, possibly indicating that these sources are variable. The most likely candidate variables are the three sources with the χ 2 probability p > 0.95. Five sources have χ 2 probabilities in the 0.85 < p < 0.95 interval, and the remaining six in the 0.6 < p < 0.8 interval. Nine out of 14 objects are possibly variable in the optical range. The light curves and spectra are determined for possible variable sources and a number of “non-variable” objects. We plan to use the results of this study in our future searches for variable radio sources using the data of the “Cold” surveys.  相似文献

A major legacy of the EGRET experiment aboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) is the detection of a large number of unidentified Gamma-ray sources. Out of the 271 EGRET sources are 170 not identified yet [Hartman et al. ApJS (123) (1999) 79]. To provide additional information on these unidentified EGRET sources, we derived simultaneous MeV fluxes or flux limits for each source by analyzing the contemporaneous COMPTEL data. Then we compare these MeV fluxes to the extrapolations of the published EGRET spectra. Our results can be grouped into 4 categories [Zhang et al. A&A (421) (2004) 983]: (1) non-constraining upper limits (∼120 sources), (2) hints (> 2 sigma) or detections with consistent MeV fluxes (∼16 sources), (3) enhanced MeV emission (2 sources), and (4) constraining MeV flux limits, requiring a spectral break (∼22 sources). In summary, for about 40 of the unidentified EGRET sources we can provide supplementary spectral information in the neighboring gamma-ray band, which – together with other source parameters – might provide clues to the underlying source nature.  相似文献

We describe an observational programme aimed at understanding the radio emission from distant, rapidly evolving galaxy populations. These observations were carried out at 1.4 and 8.5 GHz with the VLA, centred on the Hubble Deep Field, obtaining limiting flux densities of 40 and 8 μJy respectively. The differential count of the radio sources is marginally sub-Euclidean to the completeness limits(γ = − 2.4 ± 0.1) and fluctuation analysis suggests nearly 60 sources per arcmin2 at the 1 μJy level. Using high-resolution 1.4 GHz observations obtained with MERLIN, we resolve all radio sources detected in the VLA complete sample and measure a median angular size for the microjansky radio population of 1-2". This clue, coupled with the steep spectral index of the 1.4 GHz selected sample, suggests diffuse synchrotron radiation in z ∼ 1 galactic discs. The wide-field HST and ground-based optical exposures show that the radio sources are identified primarily with disc systems composed of irregulars, peculiars, interacting/merging galaxies and a few isolated field spirals. Only 20% of the radio sources can be attributed to AGN – the majority are probably associated with starburst activity. The available redshifts range from 0.1 to 3, with a mean of about 0.8. We are plrobably witnessing a major episode of starburst activity in these luminous (L > L *) systems, occasionallyaccompanied by an embedded AGN.About 20% of the radio sources remain unidentified to I = 26-28 inthe HDF and flanking fields. Several of these objectshave extremely red counterparts. We suggestthat these are high-redshift dusty protogalaxies. We present a catalog of cross-correlated radio, infrared and X-ray sources using a very restrictive selection criteria with an IDL-based code developed by us. The significance of the observed coincidences was evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations of synthetic sources following a well-tested protocol. We found 3320 coincident radio/X-ray sources with a high statistical significance characterized by the sum of error-weighted coordinate differences. For 997 of them, 2MASS counterparts were found. The percentage of chance coincidences is less than 1%. X-ray hardness ratios of well-known populations of objects were used to provide a crude representation of their X-ray spectrum and to make a preliminary diagnosis of the possible nature of unidentified X-ray sources. The results support the fact that the X-ray sky is largely dominated by Active Galactic Nuclei at high galactic latitudes (|b|≥10°). At low galactic latitudes (|b|≤10°) most of unidentified X-ray sources (∼94%) lie at |b|≤2°. This result suggests that most of the unidentified sources found toward the Milky Way plane are galactic objects. Well-known and unidentified sources were classified in different tables with their corresponding radio/infrared and X-ray properties. These tables are intended as a useful tool for researchers interested in particular identifications.  相似文献
