The rapid neutron capture process (r-process) is one of the major nucleosynthesis processes responsible for the synthesis of heavy nuclei beyond iron. Isotopes beyond Fe are most exclusively formed in neutron capture processes and more heavier ones are produced by the r-process. Approximately half of the heavy elements with mass number A>70 and all of the actinides in the solar system are believed to have been produced in the r-process. We have studied the r-process in supernovae for production of heavy elements beyond A=40 with the newest mass values available. The supernovae envelopes at a temperature >109 K and neutron density of 1024 cm−3 are considered to be one of the most potential sites for the r-process. We investigate the r-process in a site-independent, classical approach which assumes a chemical equilibrium between neutron captures and photodisintegrations followed by a β-flow equilibrium. We have studied the r-process path corresponding to temperatures ranging from 1.0×109 K to 3.0×109 K and neutron density ranging from 1020 cm−3 to 1030 cm−3. The primary goal of the r-process calculations is to fit the global abundance curve for solar system r-process isotopes by varying time dependent parameters such as temperature and neutron density. This method aims at comparing the calculated abundances of the stable isotopes with observation. The abundances obtained are compared with supernova explosion condition and found in good agreement. The elements obtained along the r-process path are compared with the observed data at all the above temperature and density range.  相似文献

CEMP-r/s stars at low metallicity are known as double-enhanced stars that show enhancements of both r-process and s-process elements. The chemical abundances of these very metal-poor stars provide us a lot of information for putting new restraints on models of neutron-capture processes. In this article, we put forward an accreted scenario in which the double enrichment of r-process and s-process elements is caused by a former intermediate-mass Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) companion in a detached binary system. As the AGB superwind is only present at the ultimate phase of AGB stars, there is thus a lot of potential that the degenerate-core mass of an intermediate-mass AGB star reaches the Chandrasekhar limit before the AGB superwind. In these circumstances, both s-process elements produced in the AGB shell and r-process elements synthesized in the subsequent explosion would be sprayed contemporaneously and accreted by its companion. Despite similarity to physical conditions of a core-collapse supernova, a major focus in this scenario is the degenerate C–O core surrounded by an envelope of a former intermediate-mass AGB donor that may collapse and explode. Due to the existence of an outer envelope, r-process nucleosynthesis is expected to occur. Hypothesizing the material-rich europium (Eu) accreted by the secondary via the wind from the supernova to be in proportion to the geometric fraction of the companion with respect to the exploding donor star, we find that the estimated yield of Eu (as representative of r-process elements) per AGB supernova event is about 1 × 10?9 M ~ 5 × 10?9 M . Using the yields of Eu, the overabundance of r-process elements in CEMP-r/s stars can be accounted for. The calculated results show that the value of parameter f , standing for efficiency of wind pollution from the AGB supernova, will reach about 104, which means that the enhanced factor is much larger than unity due to the impact of gravity of the donor and the result of the gravitational focusing effect of the companion.  相似文献

R-process yields for a helium layer have been calculated within a network of 6033 heavy nuclei using a steady flow approximation. The calculation of the neutron capture cross sections has been improved. The beta decay rates computed by Klapdor and his colleagues have been used in the calculation. We find that ther-process yield peaks near mass numbers 80 and 130 require a neutron number density of approximately 1020 cm?3 and a freezing time comparable to or less than 0.1 s. The peak near mass number 195 requires a neutron number density of about 1021 cm?3 and a freezing time comparable to or less than about 0.01 s. The individual yield features of the steady flowr-process depend entirely upon the neutron capture cross sections of the nuclei along the flow path and the beta decay rates, which can shift the flow path and thereby introduce inappropriate capture cross sections into the determination of the yields.  相似文献

Observations and model calculations of water vapor diffusion suggest that about half the amount of water vapor is distributed with constant mixing ratio in the Martian atmosphere, the other half is the excess water vapor in the lower troposphere. During 24 hr the total content of water vapor may vary by a factor of two. The eddy diffusion coefficient providing agreement between calculations and observations is K = (3–10) × 106 cm2 sec?1 in the troposphere. An analytical expression is derived for condensate density in the stratosphere in terms of the temperature profile, the particle radius r, and K. The calculations agree with the Mars 5 measurements for r = 1.5 μm, condensate density 5 × 10?12 g/cm3 in the layer maximum at 30 to 35 km, condensate column density 7 × 10?6 cm?2, K = (1?3) × 106 cm2 sec?1, and the temperature profile T = 185 ? 0.05z ? 0.01z2 at 20 to 40 km. Condensation conditions yield a temperature of 160°K at 60 km in the evening; the scale height for scattered radiation yields T = 110°k at 80 to 90 km. The Mars model atmosphere has been developed up to 125 km.  相似文献

The occultation of the Pioneer 10 spacecraft by Io (JI) provided an opportunity to obtain two S-band radio occultation measurements of its atmosphere. The dayside entry measurements revealed an ionosphere having a peak density of about 6 × 104 elcm?3 at an altitude of about 100 km. The topside scale height indicates a plasma temperature of about 406 K if it is composed of Na+ and 495 K if N2+ is principal ion. A thinner and less dense ionosphere was observed on the exit (night side), having a peak density of 9 × 103 elcm?3 at an altitude of 50 km. The topside plasma temperature is 160 K for N2? and 131 K for Na+. If the ionosphere is produced by photoionization in a manner analogous to the ionospheres of the terrestrial planets, the density of neutral particles at the surface of Io is less than 1011?1012 cm3, corresponding to a surface pressure of less than 10?8 to 10?9 bars. Two measurements of its radius were also obtained yielding a value of 1830 km for the entry and 192 km for the exit. The discrepancy between these values may indicate an ephemeris uncertainty of about 45 km. The two measurements yield an average radius of 1875 km, which is not in agreement with the results of the Beta Scorpii stellar occultation.  相似文献

The Parker model is modified to describe a rapid temperature increase from the region of temperature minimum to the coronal base and to relate the electron density in the region of the temperature minimum (~0.85×1011 cm?3 according to the modified model) to that at the orbit of the Earth (~7.42 cm?3 according to the model). The coronal temperature reaches its maximum (1.8×106 K) at the Parker critical point; physical processes at this point are left beyond the scope of the model. It is suggested to consider the expanding solar corona as a self-heating system in which heating of the solar corona is related to the transonic regime of its expansion, which is maintained by the high coronal temperature.  相似文献

The evolution of the protoplanet Jupiter is followed, using a hydrodynamic computer code with radiative energy transport. Jupiter is assumed to have formed as a subcondensation in the primitive solar nebula at a density just high enough for gravitational collapse to occur. The initial state has a density of 1.5 × 10?11 g cm?3 and a temperature of 43 K; the calculations are carried to an equilibrium state where the central density reaches 0.5 g cm?3 and the central temperature reaches 2.5 × 104 K. During the early part of the evolution the object contracts in quasi-hydrostatic equilibrium; later on hydrodynamic collapse occurs, induced by the dissociation of hydrogen molecules. After dissociation is complete, the planet regains hydrostatic equilibrium with a radius of a few times the present value. Further evolution beyond this point is not treated here; however the results are consistent with the existence of a high-luminosity phase shortly after the planet settles into its final quasistatic contraction.  相似文献

Four surveys in which the geometrical parameters were suitable for observations on weak scattering objects were carried out by the Venera 9, 10 orbiters using 3000–8000 Å spectrometers. The results of one survey can be explained by a dust layer at the height of sighting h = 100–700 km. Its absence in other sessions suggests a ring structure. The spectrum of dust scattering is a power function of the wavelength with the index varying from ?2.1 at 100km to ?1.3 at 500km. A method is proposed for obtaining the optical thickness, density and size distribution of dust particles from the scattering spectra. For m > 10?14 g the number of dust particles with a mass higher than m is proportional to m?1.3. The radial optical thickness τ is 0.7 × 10?5 at 5000 Å assuming the geometric thickness δ to be 100 km. The maximum optical thickness along the normal to the plane of the ring is τn = 4 × 10?6. The mass of the ring is 20 tons or 5 × 10?3 g cm?1 per unit circumference length; the maximum mass in a column normal to the ring plane is 10?10g cm?2; the maximum density (for δ = 100 km) is 10?17 g cm?3. A satellite of Venus gradually destroyed by temperature effects and by meteorite streams and plasma fluxes is suggested as the source of dust in the ring. One of 1 km radius could sustain such a ring for a billion years. The zodiacal light intensity near Venus is estimated.  相似文献

RX J1856.5–3754 is one of the brightest nearby isolated neutron stars, and considerable observational resources have been devoted to it. However, current models are unable to satisfactorily explain the data. We show that our latest models of a thin, magnetic, partially ionized hydrogen atmosphere on top of a condensed surface can fit the entire spectrum, from X-rays to optical, of RX J1856.5–3754, within the uncertainties. In our simplest model, the best-fit parameters are an interstellar column density N H≈1×1020 cm?2 and an emitting area with R ≈17 km (assuming a distance to RX J1856.5–3754 of 140 pc), temperature T ≈4.3×105 K, gravitational redshift z g ~0.22, atmospheric hydrogen column y H≈1 g cm?2, and magnetic field B≈(3–4)×1012 G; the values for the temperature and magnetic field indicate an effective average over the surface.  相似文献

The giant post-flare arch of 6 November 1980 revived 11 hr and 25 hr after its formation. Both these revivals were caused by two-ribbon flares with growing systems of loops. The first two brightenings of the arch were homologous events with brightness maxima moving upwards through the corona with rather constant speed; during all three brightenings the arch showed a velocity pattern with two components: a slow one (8–12 km?1), related to the moving maxima of brightness, and a fast one (~ 35 km s?1), the source of which is unknown. During the first revival, at an altitude of 100000 km, temperature in the arch peaked ~ 1 hr, brightness ~ 2 hr, and emission measure ~ 3.5 hr after the onset of the brightening. Thus the arch looks like a magnified flare, with the scales both in size and time increased by an order of magnitude. At ~ 100000 km altitude the maximum temperature was ?14 × 106K, max.n e? 2.5 × 109cm?3, and max. energy density ? 11.2 erg cm?3. The volume of the whole arch can be estimated to 1.1 × 1030 cm3, total energy ?1.2 × 1031 erg, and total mass ?4.4 × 1015g. The density decreased with the increasing altitude and remained below 7 × 109 cm?3 anywhere in the arch. The arch cooled very slowly through radiation whereas conductive cooling was inhibited. Since its onset the revived arch was subject to energy input within the whole extent of the preexisting arch while a thermal disturbance (a new arch?) propagated slowly from below. We suggest that the first heating of the revived arch was due to reconnection of some of the distended flare loops with the magnetic field of the old preexisting arch. The formation of the ‘post’-flare loop system was delayed and started only some 30–40 min later. Since that time a new arch began to be formed above the loops and the velocities we found reflect this formation.  相似文献

A four-parameter model which assumes a Gaussian dependence of both temperature and pressure on distance from center is used to fit the compact part of coronal active regions as observed in X-ray photographs from a rocket experiment. The four parameters are the maximum temperature T M, the maximum pressure P M= 2NMkTM, the width of the pressure distribution σ P, and the width of the temperature distribution σ T = α1/2σP. The maximum temperature T M ranges from 2.2 to 2.8 × 106K, and the maximum density N M from 2 to 9 × 109cm?3. The range of σ P is from 2 to 4 × 109 cm and that of α from 2 to 7.  相似文献

We have searched for and estimated the possible gravitational influence of dark matter in the Solar system based on the EPM2011 planetary ephemerides using about 677 thousand positional observations of planets and spacecraft. Most of the observations belong to present-day ranging measurements. Our estimates of the dark matter density and mass at various distances from the Sun are generally overridden by their errors (σ). This suggests that the density of dark matter ρ dm, if present, is very low and is much less than the currently achieved error of these parameters. We have found that ρ dm is less than 1.1 × 10?20 g cm?3 at the orbital distance of Saturn, ρ dm < 1.4 × 10?20 g cm?3 at the orbital distance of Mars, and ρ dm < 1.4 × 10?19 g cm?3 at the orbital distance of the Earth. We also have considered the case of a possible concentration of dark matter to the Solar system center. The dark matter mass in the sphere within Saturn’s orbit should be less than 1.7 × 10?10 M even if its possible concentration is taken into account.  相似文献

We investigate the combined effect of neutron and proton superfluidities on the cooling of neutron stars whose cores consist of nucleons and electrons. We consider the singlet state paring of protons and the triplet pairing of neutrons in the cores of neutron stars. The critical superfluid temperatures T c are assumed to depend on the matter density. We study two types of neutron pairing with different components of the total angular momentum of a Cooper pair along the quantization axis (|m J |=0 or 2). Our calculations are compared with the observations of thermal emission from isolated neutron stars. We show that the observations can be interpreted by using two classes of superfluidity models: (1) strong proton superfluidity with a maximum critical temperature in the stellar core T c max ?4×109 K and weak neutron superfluidity of any type (T c max ?2×108 K); (2) strong neutron superfluidity (pairing with m J =0) and weak proton superfluidity. The two types of models reflect an approximate symmetry with respect to an interchange of the critical neutron and proton pairing temperatures.  相似文献

Abstract— Cosmic ray produced tracks, He and Ne isotopes and radionuclides have been studied in the recently fallen H5 chondrite Gujargaon. The results indicate an exposure age of about 7 Ma. The high track production rates of 0.25 to 0.69 × 106 cm?2 Ma?1 suggest that the Gujargaon meteoroid had a small size (Re = 9–10 cm) in space and suffered 1–3 cm ablation in the atmosphere. The conclusion about the meteoroid size is supported by the low activity of neutron capture isotope 60Co and high spallogenic 22Ne/21Ne ratio of about 1.25. The data on long lived isotopes 10Be, 53Mn and 26Al are used to derive production rates of these isotopes in a rock having a radius of 9 cm and the activity levels of the short lived isotopes 22Na and 54Mn are used to estimate the effect of modulation of galactic cosmic rays at the time of solar maximum of 1982.  相似文献

The formation of chemical elements in the envelopes of neutron stars is considered at the densities ?=107 to 1013 g cm?3. It is shown, that the compression of cold and hot matter leads to different chemical compositions. The compression of cold matter is accompanied by a decrease of atomic weightA, up to ?≈3×1012 g cm?3. One may distinguish the following stages during the compression of hot matter: quasi-equilibrium, when there exists both nuclear equilibrium and kinetic equilibrium in β-processes; and limited equilibrium, when the total number of nuclei is constant. It is shown that a nonequilibrium chemical composition may be formed in the envelopes of neutron stars where there is an excess of neutrons in the presence of superheavy nuclei. The nuclear energy, stored in the neutron star envelope may be sufficient to support neutron star luminosity at a level of ~ 1036 erg s?1 over a period of ~ 105 yr. Possible applications to the problem of X-ray sources and pulsars are discussed. The formation of the heavy nuclei in Supernovae explosions is considered briefly. Rough estimates are made for the differences in chemical composition of ejected matter during the explosions of stars of different masses and Supernovae of different types.  相似文献

The model of a presupernova’s carbon-oxygen (C-O) core with an initial mass of 1.33 M , an initial carbon abundance X C (0) =0.27, and a mean rate of increase in mass of 5 × 10?7 M yr?1 through accretion in a binary system evolved from the central density and temperature ρc=109 g cm?3 and T c=2.05 × 108K, respectively, by forming a convective core and its subsequent expansion to an explosive fuel ignition at the center. The evolution and explosion equations included only the carbon burning reaction 12C+12C with energy release corresponding to the complete conversion of carbon and oxygen (at the same rate as that of carbon) into 56Ni. The ratio of mixing length to convection-zone size αc was chosen as the parameter. Although the model assumptions were crude, we obtained an acceptable (for the theory of supernovae) pattern of explosion with a strong dependence of its duration on αc. In our calculations with sufficiently large values of this parameter, αc=4.0 × 10?3 and 3.0×10?3, fuel burned in the regime of prompt detonation. In the range 2.0×10?3≥αc≥3.0×10?4, there was initially a deflagration with the generation of model pulsations whose amplitude gradually increased. Eventually, the detonation regime of burning arose, which was triggered from the model surface layers (with m ? 1.33 M ) and propagated deep into the model up to the deflagration front. The generation of model pulsations and the formation of a detonation front are described in detail for αc=1.0 × 10?3.  相似文献

The rates for a variety of beta decay processes have been determined as a function of temperature for nuclei which can participate in thes-process production of heavy elements, occurring in the presence of the22Ne(α,n)25 Mg neutron source operating in the convective helium shells of thermally pulsing stars. Specifically: calculated half-lives are presented for electron emission, positron emission, and electron capture over the temperature range 108–109 K.  相似文献

The flash spectrograms obtained at the June 30, 1973 eclipse contain the monochromatic images of a coronal condensation in three coronal lines of Fexiv 5303, Fex 6374 and Fexi 7892 and Hα line. The assumption of the axially-symmetric distribution of the emissivity in the coronal lines allows us to find the density and temperature structure of the coronal condensation. While the electron density in the central axis of the condensation is about ten times as high as that of the normal corona at each height, the temperature is not so high (T?2.3×106K). This seems to be a representative nature of a coronal active region in the post maximum phase of activity. It is found that there exists a cool and dense core (T = 106K, N e =6 × 109 cm-3 at 17000 km) at the lower part of the coronal condensation, which is in a close geometrical coincidence with the small active prominence protruding from the underlying plage region.  相似文献

Two extreme ultraviolet (EUV) spectrophotometers flown in December 1978 on Venera 11 and Venera 12 measured the hydrogen Lyman α emission resonantly scattered in the atmosphere of Venus. Measurements were obtained across the dayside of the disk, and in the exosphere up to 50,000 km. They were analyzed with spherically symmetric models for which the radiative transfer equation was solved. The H content of the Venus atmosphere varies from optically thin to moderately thick regions. A shape fit at the bright limb allows one to determine the exospheric temperature Tc and the number density nc independently of the calibration of the instrument or the exact value of the solar flux. The dayside exospheric temperature was measured for the first time in the polar regions, with Tc = 300 ± 25°K for Venera 11 (79°S) and Tc = 275 ± 25°K (59°S) for Venera 12. At the same place, the density is nc = 4?2+3 × 104 atom.cm?3, and the integrated number density Nt from 250 to 110 km (the level of CO2 absorption) is 2.1 × 1012 atom.cm?2, a factor of 3 to 6 lower than that predicted in aeronomical models. This probably indicates that the models should be revised in the content of H-bearing molecules and should include the effect of dynamics. Across the disk the value of Nt decreases smoothly with a total variation of two from the morning side to the afternoon side. Alternately it could be a latitude effect, with less hydrogen in the polar regions. The nonthermal component if clearly seen up to 40,000 km of altitude. It is twice as abundant as at the time of Mariner 10 (solar minimum). Its radial distribution above 4000 km can be simulated by an exospheric distribution with T = 1030K and n = 103 atom.cm?3 at the exobase level. However, there are less hot atoms between 2000 and 4000 km than predicted by an ionospheric source. A by-product of the analysis is a determination of a very high solar Lyman α flux of 7.6 × 1011 photons (cm2 sec Å)?1 at line center (1 AU) in December 1978.  相似文献

In an updating of energy characteristics of lightnings on Venus obtained from Venera-9 and -10 optical observations, the flash energy is given as 8 × 108 J and the mean energy release of lightnings is 1 erg cm?2 s which is 25 times as high as that on the Earth. Lightnings were observed in the cloud layer. The stroke rate in the near-surface atmosphere is less than 5 s?1 over the entire planet if the light energy of the stroke exceeds 4 × 105 J and less than 15 s?1 for (1–4) × 105 J.The average NO production due to lightnings equals 5 × 108 cm?2 s?1, the atomic nitrogen production is equal to 7 × 109 cm?2s?1,the N flux toward the nightside is 3.2 × 109 cm?2s?1, the number densities [N] = 3 × 107cm?3 and [NO] = 1.8 × 106cm?3 at 135 km. Almost all NO molecules in the upper atmosphere vanish interacting with N and the resulting NO flux at 90-80 km equals 5 × 105cm?2s?1, which is negligibly small as compared with lightning production. If the predissociation at 80–90 km is regarded as the single sink of NO, its mixing ratio, fNO, is 4 × 10?8, for the case of a surface sink fNO = 0.8 × 10?9 at 50 km. Excess amounts, fNO ? 4 × 10?8, may exist in the thunderstorm region.  相似文献
