The reduction of untouched areas and the increase in residential, agricultural and industrial areas have gained speed in recent decades. As a result of the changes, one can often observe the disappearance of landmarks that had been connected to production, habitation and transportation. The first step for the preservation of landmarks is their identification and inventorization. In the ordinary sense of the word, ‘landmarks’ mean the important landscape heritage of national history and culture, which need to be identified, protected and preserved for future generations. The purpose of the TÉKA project was to compile a landmark cadastral register that will contribute to the preservation of landscape-related and cultural heritage in Hungary. The landmark cadastral is a Wikipedia-like GIS-based web site. One of the novelties of the TÉKA database is that the data obtained from various sources are gathered in a common, online GIS and integrated into a uniform meta database.  相似文献

Abstract

The main goal of this research is to set a group of typographic criteria to suit a wide array of map users. A group of Bertin’s visual variables were applied individually and associatively for the same set of labels. Two kinds of maps (with point and areal objects) were presented to expert and non-expert map users and analysed accordingly. Additionally, the effect of gender variation was taken into account. The data were aggregated and studied for each graphical variable. For some combinations of Bertin’s variables, statistically significant differences were detected in the preferences of the different map users (e.g. male versus female and expert versus non-expert). Consequently, we identified which graphical variables (individually or combined) were more preferred by specific user groups in relation to their application on text objects.  相似文献

Abstract

At the end of the eighteenth century, a large-scale map of the Austrian Netherlands and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège was manufactured, covering more or less the current territory of Belgium. The work for this Carte de Cabinet was carried out by artillerists under the guidance of count Joseph de Ferraris, who was commissioned for the task by the Habsburg government. At the time that the map was designed, no modern legend was included. This paper tries to fill that gap by presenting a legend that was constructed more systematically than any of its predecessors. It is based on the structure of the legend of the Topographic Map of Belgium and the CORINE land cover map, making it an easy-to-use tool for modern researchers. The problems encountered during the development of the legend are described, and the link between the Carte de Cabinet and eighteenth-century French cartography as well as with cartographic manuals is also discussed.  相似文献

The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) is a collaborative effort among government entities, academia, and the private sector to collect high-resolution 3-dimensional data over the United States. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is making preparations for managing, processing, and delivering petabytes of 3DEP elevation products for the Nation. In addition to the existing 1/3, 1, and 2 arc-second seamless elevation data layers of The National Map, new 3DEP products include lidar point cloud data; a standard 1-meter DEM layer; additional source datasets; and, in Alaska, 5-meter digital elevation models. A new product generation system improves the construction and publication of the seamless elevation datasets, prepares the additional 3DEP products for distribution, and automates the data management functions required to accommodate the high-volume 3DEP data collection. Major changes in geospatial data acquisition, such as high resolution lidar data, volunteered geographic information, data processing using parallel and grid computer systems, and user needs for semantic access to geospatial data and products, are driving USGS research associated with the 3DEP. To address the research requirements, a set of inter-related projects including spatiotemporal data models, data integration, geospatial semantics and ontology, high performance computing, multi-scale representation, and hydrological modeling using lidar and other 3DEP data has been developed.  相似文献

Dakhla depression in Egypt’s Western Desert is experiencing two soil degradation processes, notably: soil salinization and sand encroachment. The present study aimed to diagnose the severity of these processes using remote sensing. Soil salinity was determined by spectral regression analysis between tasselled cap spectral transform extracted from a Landsat-8 image acquired in September 2013 along with synchronized soil salinity measurements. Assessment of sand advance rate was conducted by temporal change detection of brilliant crescentic sand dune visualized by Google Earth in old (2002) and recent (2013) images. Results showed that salinized soils (dS/m4<) represent 91% of bare lands and salinization is attributed to aridity, topography and poor drainage. Barchan dunes north and south of Abu Tartur escarpment moved at rates of 5.9 and 3.6 m/year, respectively. The escarpment protected the majority of the depression from massive dune invasion. However, sand encroachment is clearly observed west of the depression.  相似文献

Abstract

Since 1906, South Africa boasted an excellent geodetic framework, and in 1920 an official Trigonometrical Survey Office (TSO) was established. In spite of these achievements, the country, by the 1930s, still lacked reliable topographical maps. One reason for this was that the secondary and tertiary triangulations of the country were still incomplete; another was that the decision-making process as regards surveys and mapping rested with a variety of statutory bodies instead of just one. In 1934, A. D. Lewis, Director of the Department of Irrigation, committed his department to execute a general topographical survey of the country and produce a topographical map on a scale of 1∶500?000. Lewis’ decision met with much resistance from within the country and abroad, but the project was completed in a record period of 4 years. Published just before the Second World War, the map was of inestimable value to the South African Defense Force. It not only became the standard topographical map of large parts of South Africa for many years, but its contents also figured in the first map series of the TSO.  相似文献

This study deals with the external type of topographic–isostatic potential and gravity anomaly and its vertical derivatives, derived from the Airy/Heiskanen model for isostatic compensation. From the first and the second radial derivatives of the gravity anomaly the effect on the geoid is estimated for the downward continuation of gravity to sea level in the application of Stokes' formula. The major and regional effect is shown to be of order H 3 of the topography, and it is estimated to be negligible at sea level and modest for most mountains, but of the order of several metres for the highest and most extended mountain belts. Another, global, effect is of order H but much less significant Received: 3 October 1997 / Accepted: 30 June 1998  相似文献

This study aims to monitor the forest cover of Pichavaram mangroves, South India over a period of 40 years using remote sensing, and to record the status of mangroves as perceived by the local community. Out of 1471 ha of total reserved forest area, mangroves occupy 906 ha. The remote sensing maps show that there was a loss of 471 ha from 1970 to 1991 and a gain of 531 ha in 2011. Nearby 20 hamlets depend on mangroves for their livelihood. A village survey conducted at Pichavaram shows that more than 90% of the local community is well aware of the prevailing species, their importance especially after the 2004 tsunami and the impact of management practices, increased rainfall and contribution of local community in the recent increased area of mangroves. The same can be noticed from the high-resolution IKONOS image showing the artificial canal network in the restored region and from rainfall records.  相似文献

On the basis of an electronic map-based hypermedia data model (EMBHDM),this paper makes a study on the technologies of nonlinear storage, organization, management and browsing of information, management and browing of information as well as organization of data on the basis of the relationship between multimedia information of electronic maps. This paper first analyzes some features of electronic maps and hypermedia technologty, and then illustrates the creation of EMBHDM with some examples. The tests show that this model can efficiently organize and express multimedia data.  相似文献

In the photogrammetry, some researchers have applied genetic algorithms in aerial image texture classification and reducing hyper-spectrum remote sensing data.Genetic algorithm can rapidly find the solutions which are close to the optimal solution. But it is not easy to find the optimal solution. In order to solve the problem,a cooperative evolution idea integrating genetic algorithm and ant colony algorithm is presented in this paper. On the basis of the advantages of ant colony algorithm, this paper proposes the method integrating genetic algorithms and ant colony algorithm to overcome the drawback of genetic algorithms. Moreover, the paper takes designing texture classification masks of aerial images as an example to illustrate the integration theory and procedures.  相似文献
