High-resolution 27Al MAS NMR spectra of natural leucite recorded at H 0=11.7T contain three resolvable resonances at 27Al δ i = 69.2, 64.7, and 61.0±0.5 ppm. These three resonances are assigned to the three inequivalent framework positions of leucite: T3, T2, and T1, respectively. Fitting the observed spectra yields a Si,Al distribution for leucite in which approximately one-half of the Al is in T1 and one-quarter in each of T2 and T3. This Si,Al distribution differs substantially from those obtained by previous workers using 29Si NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. New 29Si NMR spectra and revision of previously reported 29Si NMR peak assignments, however, make the 27Al and 29Si NMR results consistent. The 27Al δ i correlate linearly with the mean T-O-T′ bond angles of the average structure, which allows the peak assignments to be made. However, this correlation lies distinctly toward higher frequency and larger bond angles than correlations for Si,Al ordered aluminosilicates, suggesting that the mean T(Al)-O-T′(Si) bond angle for each site in leucite is smaller than the mean bond angle of the average structure, which is averaged over T(Al)-O-T′(Si) and T(Si)-OT′(Si,Al) angles.  相似文献

A 29Si and 27Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance study is reported for differently synthesized mullites. The 29Si MAS NMR spectra of all samples are essentially identical. They consist of a main resonance at -86.8 ppm, a shoulder around -90 ppm and a second resonance at -94.2 ppm. The main resonance is interpreted as being due to a sillimanite-type geometry around Si and the second one is tentatively assigned to a Si environment typical for mullite. The 27Al MAS NMR spectra of sinter- and fused-mullite measured at different Larmor frequencies revealed clearly the presence of three distinct Al sites in mullite, i.e. of octahedral (M1), tetrahedral (M2) and distorted tetrahedral (Al*) sites.  相似文献

Thermal transformations of kaolinite of different degree of crystallinity have been monitored by 27Al and 29Si high-resolution NMR with magic-angle spinning (MAS NMR), X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, atomic absorption spectrophotometry and thermogravimetric analysis. NMR shows differences in the dehydroxylation process of kaolinites with different degree of crystallinity and reveals the presence of short-range order in metakaolinite. 29Si NMR spectra acquired with a 30 s recycle delay of poorly and highly crystalline samples heated at 480 and 500° C, respectively, contain three distinct signals; we discuss their assignment in the light of experiments involving leaching of the samples with aqueous KOH. Ca. 40% of Si sites retain their original Q 3 symmetry just above the onset of dehydroxylation and the Q 4 environment is present showing that a small amount of amorphous silica has already segregated. The spectrum of samples treated at 1000° C contains a signal at -110ppm (from Q 4 silicons) and a faint resonance, from mullite, at ca. -87 ppm. 29Si NMR also shows that cristobalite germs are already present at 950–1000° C. The 27Al MAS NMR spectra of metakaolinite reveal the presence of 4-, 5-and 6-coordinated Al. Changes in the three Al populations as a function of temperature have been monitored quantitatively. Below 800° C, 4-and 5-coordinated Al appears at the expense of 6-coordinated Al, but above 800° C the amount of 6-coordinated Al increases again. We suggest a dehydroxylation scheme which accounts for the presence of 4-and 5 coordinated Al. Above 900–950° C the latter signal is no longer present in the 27Al NMR spectra and new 4-and 6-coordinated Al species (mullite and γ-alumina) appear. We propose new ideas for the structure of metakaolinite.  相似文献

The disordering kinetics of Al/Si in albite depend on how the samples are dried, and thus on the presence of trace amounts of water. The disordering rate increases with water content and confining pressure. At 10 kb the activation energy is about 67 kcal/mole compared to about 87 kcal/mole for samples disordered in air. Simultaneous plastic deformation increases the disordering rate and the effect is most pronounced below 900° C at 10?6/s. Some albite ordering and microcline disordering experiments show similar kinetic behavior. These results are significant for interpreting the structural state and the high-temperature deformation of feldspars.  相似文献

Hartree-Fock and B3LYP NMR calculations were performed at the 6-311+G(2df,p) level on cluster models representing albite glasses using B3LYP/6 to 31G* optimized geometries. Calculation results on several well-known crystalline materials, such as low albite and KHSi2O5, were used to check the accuracy of the calculation methods.Calculated 29Si-NMR results on clusters that model protonation of Al-O-Si linkages and the replacement of Na+ by H+ indicate a major increase in Si-O(H) bond length and a 5 ppm difference in δiso for 29Si compared to that for anhydrous albite glass. The calculated δiso of 27Al in such linkages agrees with the experimental data, but shows an increase in Cq that cannot be fully diminished by H-bonding to additional water molecules. This protonation model is consistent with both experimental 17O NMR data and the major peak of 1H-NMR spectra. It cannot readily explain the existence of the small peak in the experimental 1H spectra around 1.5 ppm. Production of the depolymerized units Al [Q3]-O-H upon the dissolution of water is not consistent with 27Al, 1H, or 17O NMR experimental results. Production of Si [Q3]-O-H is consistent with all of the experimental 17O and 1H-NMR data; such units can produce both the major peak at 3.5 ppm and the small peak at 1.5 ppm in 1H spectra, either with or without hydrogen bonding. This species, however, cannot produce the main features of 29Si spectra. It is concluded that although neither protonation nor the production of Si [Q3]-O-H alone is consistent with the available experimental data, the combination of these two processes is consistent with available experimental NMR data.  相似文献

Ab initio, molecular orbital (MO) calculations were performed on model systems of SiO2, NaAlSi3O8 (albite), H2O-SiO2 and H2O-NaAlSi3O8 glasses. Model nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) isotropic chemical shifts (δiso) for 1H, 17O, 27Al and 29Si are consistent with experimental data for the SiO2, NaAlSi3O8, H2O-SiO2 systems where structural interpretations of the NMR peak assignments are accepted. For H2O-NaSi3AlO8 glass, controversy has surrounded the interpretation of NMR and infrared (IR) spectra. Calculated δiso1H, δiso17O, δiso27Al and δiso29Si are consistent with the interpretation of Kohn et al. (1992) that Si-(OH)-Al linkages are responsible for the observed peaks in hydrous Na-aluminosilicate glasses. In addition, a theoretical vibrational frequency associated with the Kohn et al. (1992) model agrees well with the observed shoulder near 900 cm−1 in the IR and Raman spectra of hydrous albite glasses. MO calculations suggest that breaking this Si-(OH)-Al linkage requires ∼+56 to +82 kJ/mol which is comparable to the activation energies for viscous flow in hydrous aluminosilicate melts.  相似文献

The nuclear magnetic relaxation of 23Na and 29Si in albite glass and liquid has been studied from 800 K to 1400 K. The dominant spin-lattice relaxation mechanism for 23Na is found to be nuclear quadrupole interaction arising from the Na+ diffusion. The activation energy of the Na diffusion is found to be 71±3 kJ/mol, in close agreement with the results on electrical conductivity and on Na self-diffusion from radio-tracer experiments. The correlation time of the Na motion is estimated to be about 8.5×10?11 s near the melting point (~1390 K). Both nuclear dipole-dipole interaction and chemical shift anisotropy interaction are large enough to contribute to the 29Si relaxation. However, calculations based on a simplified model which employ single correlation time and exponential correlation function, with interactions typical of crystalline silicates, cannot completely account for the experimental data. NMR relaxation data also reveal that the Si motion is correlated to the Na motion and that the Si is relatively immobile. Several possible motions of SiO4 tetrahedra that can cause 29Si relaxation are suggested. The motion responsible for 29Si relaxation differs from that which is responsible for viscosity: the apparent activation energy for the former is much lower. Measurements of spin-spin relaxation times and linewidths are also presented and the significance of their temperature dependence is discussed.  相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic data are presented for the cristobalite polymorphs of AlPO4 and SiO2 from RT to 770 K, through their respective α-β transitions. The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data include chemical shifts for 31P, 27Al, and 29Si, 27Al quadrupole coupling parameters, and 31P and 27Al spin-lattice relaxation rates. Also presented are electron diffraction patterns of β-cristobalite AlPO4 that show diffuse scattering similar to that reported previously for SiO2. For the α-phases of both AlPO4 and SiO2, the chemical shifts decrease approximately linearly with increasing temperature from RT to Tc and discontinuously by -2 to -3 ppm from α to β. This result is consistent with a small, continuous increase in the mean T-O-T angle (〈θ〉) of the α-phases with increasing T and an increase of 〈θ〉 by about 4° across the α-β transition for both cristobalite and its AlPO4 analogue. Based on the 29Si chemical shifts, the mean Si-O-Si angle for β-cristobalite is 152.7±1° near Tc. For AlPO4-cristobalite, the 27Al nuclear quadrupole coupling constant (CQ) decreases approximately linearly from 1.2 MHz at RT to 0.94 MHz near Tc (493±10 K). At the α-β transition the 27Al CQ approaches zero, in agreement with the cubic average structure observed by diffraction. The satellite transitions retain a small frequency distribution above the α-β transition from electric field gradients attributed to defects. The short-range cubic symmetry of the Al-site and non-linear Al-O-P angle support a dynamically disordered model of the β-cristobalite structure. Complete averaging of the 27Al quadrupole coupling in the β-phase indicates that the lifetime of any short-range ordered domains must be shorter than about 1 μs.  相似文献

29Si MAS NMR experiments have been carried out to determine the silica species distribution (Q distribution) in albite, NaAlSi3O8, and anorthite, CaAl2Si2O8, composition glasses (designated albite and anorthite glass). Our results indicate that the Q distribution of albite glass contains all five possible silica species and shows a tendency towards high Q3 and Q4 concentrations, whereas anorthite glass does not contain Q4 and has a high Q0 concentration. Rationalizations are made in terms of the observed Q distributions to explain differences in devitrification behavior of these two glasses. 27Al MAS NMR data for these glasses suggest that differences in devitrification behavior between these two glasses should be ascribed to small growth rates rather than small nucleation rates of crystalline albite from albite glass.  相似文献

27Al,29Si MAS NMR studies of kaolinite and its thermal transformation products show that in the kaolinite-mullite reaction series there is an extensive segregation of Al2O3 and SiO2 and the reaction of Al2O3 with SiO2 to form mullite is the main path of mullite formation. At about 850° C, the peak intensity of A1(V) reaches its maximum and with the further rise of temperature the A1(V) signal completely disappears. At about 950°C, γ-Al2O3 accounts for about 71% of the material phases containing Al atoms. In the series there is no obvious presence of Al-Si spinel. The27Al and29Si MAS NMR spectra show that there is an obvious difference between the temperature points for Al-O2(OH)4 octahedral sheet collapsing and Si-O4 tetrahedral sheet breaking down.  相似文献

A method of determining the number of Al-O-Al bonds per unit cell from 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data of synthetic cordierites with increasing Si, Al order is described. The number of Al-O-Al bonds is found to vary linearly with the logarithm of the annealing time. This may be correlated with previously published heat of solution data on similar samples (Carpenter et al. 1983) to determine the enthalpy change Δh, associated with a single Al?Si interchange in cordierite. Δh is found to be 8.1 kcal/mole. The NMR data show that the short range Al, Si order cannot be described in terms of twin domains of ordered orthorhombic cordierite. An ordering model derived from group theoretical constraints on possible Al, Si distributions within the hexagonal symmetry of the cordierite is found to provide a better fit to the NMR data.  相似文献

Rock-forming zeolites often exhibit complex solid solutions reflecting isomorphous substitutions between Si and Al in tetrahedral framework sites, between charge-balancing extraframework cations, and between water molecules and vacancies. Although the number of moles of charge on extraframework cations in a zeolite must equal the moles of Al in order to maintain charge balance, the relationships between Si–Al and extraframework substitutions vary considerably across this mineral group. Review of available compositional data suggests that there are three main modes of Si–Al substitution in zeolites: 1) coupled CaAl–NaSi substitution; 2) coupled substitution of a single extraframework cation plus Al for Si; and 3) completely uncoupled substitution among extraframework cations and Si and Al on tetrahedral sites. Among zeolites that exhibit the latter two modes of solid solution, Si–Al substitution can be described by an SiO2 H2O) compositional exchange vector from a hypothetical, pure-silica endmember composition. Recent calorimetric, structural, and theoretical investigations suggest that Si–Al substitution follows a non-ideal, athermal solution model characterized by no excess enthalpies of mixing and negative excess entropies of mixing. Because Si–Al exchange in these minerals can be explicitly or implicitly described by exchange of an SiO2 component, the Si/Al ratio in their framework can be predicted solely as a function of temperature, pressure, and the chemical potential of SiO2. Application of this model leads to calculated Si/Al ratios in stilbite (coexisting with albite), analcime, and chabazite consistent with observed mineral compositions and parageneses in very low-grade metamorphic environments. Coexistence of silica polymorphs with zeolites containing SiO2·nH2O exchange vectors potentially provides a means of performing thermobarometric calculations in very low-grade metamorphic and diagenetic environments.  相似文献

The concentrations of Na, Al, and Si in an aqueous fluid in equilibrium with natural albite, paragonite, and quartz have been measured between 350°C and 500°C and 1 to 2.5 kbar. Si is the dominant solute in solution and is near values reported for quartz solubility in pure H2O. At 1 kbar the concentrations of Na and Al remain fairly constant from 350°C to 425°C but then decrease at 450°C. At 2 kbar, Na increases slightly with increasing temperature while Al remains nearly constant. Concentrations of Si, Na, and Al all increase with increasing pressure at constant temperature. The molality of Al is close to that of Na and is nearly a log unit greater than calculated molalities assuming Al(OH)03 is the dominant Al species. This indicates a Na-Al complex is the dominant Al species in solution as shown by Anderson and Burnham (1983) at higher temperature and pressure. The complex can be written as NaAl(OH)04 ± nSiO2 where n is the number of Si atoms in the complex. The value of n is not well constrained but appears to be less than or equal to 3.The results indicate Al can be readily transported in pure H2O solutions at temperatures and pressures as low as 350°C and 1 kbar.  相似文献

Silicon-29 “magic angle spinning” nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been used to study the changes in local Si environment during Al, Si ordering in synthetic cordierite, Mg2Al4Si5O18. In the most disordered form, crystallized from a glass, eight distinct tetrahedral sites for silicon can be identified and assigned, while there are only two distinguishable Si sites in the well-annealed ordered form. This allows the changes in the Si site environments to be determined as a function of annealing time for the transformation from the disordered to the ordered form. The first crystallized state has a considerable degree of partitioning between T1 and T2 sites with the following site occupancies: T1 ? Al:Si=0.80:0.20, T2?Al:Si=0.27:0.73 The changes in Si environment are approximately linear with log time. The measured values of 29Si isotropic chemical shift do not fit well to previously determined correlations of shift with various structural parameters.  相似文献

High-resolution aluminum-27 and silicon-29 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of natural and synthetic imogolites and allophanes obtained using high-field“magic-angle” sample-spinning (MASS) techniques indicate that the imogolite and protoimogolite components of allophanes are characterized by sharp (≈3 ppm) silicon-29 resonances at ?78±1 ppm from tetramethylsilane (in accord with Barron et al. 1982), and quite narrow (≈10 ppm at 11.7 Tesla) aluminum-27 resonances, at 5.2±1 ppm from Al(H2O) 6 3+ (in accord with Wilson et al. 1984). However, the spectra of natural allophanes usually contain significant intensity arising from a less well defined material, characterized by a broad (≈20 ppm) silicon-29 resonance centered at ?90±2 ppm from tetramethylsilane, and a second relatively narrow (≈15 ppm at 11.7 Tesla) aluminum-27 resonance at 58.5±2 ppm from Al(H2O) 6 3+ . Similar characteristic spectral features are exhibited by a synthetic amorphous Si:Al (1:1) gel, and presumably indicate the presence of framework aluminosilicate materials in the gel, and in most allophanes.  相似文献

The NMR spectra of 27Al and 23Na and the EPR spectra of Fe3+ and Mn2+ have been studied in a range of plagioclase feldspars, of intermediate composition. Many of these crystals have previously been investigated by TEM methods (McLaren and Marshall, 1974). The broad, central 27Al signals observed in labradorites have been interpreted in terms of an overall order/disorder of the Al/Si distribution. Spin Hamiltonian parameters have been determined for the Fe3+ spectra observed in labradorites and bytownites; these spectra were similar and yielded evidence of disordering of the Al/Si distribution. The severe limitations imposed by the variety of sites, the complex microstructures and the disordering, limit the structural information available from the resonance methods.  相似文献

Cryolite is a mixed-cation perovskite (Na2(NaAl)F6) which undergoes a monoclinic to orthorhombic displacive phase transition at ~550° C. Chiolite (Na5Al3F14) is associated with cryolite in natural deposits, and consists of sheets of corner sharing [AlF6] octahedra interlayered with edge-sharing [NaF6] octahedra. Multi-nuclear NMR line shape and relaxation time (T1) studies were performed on cryolite and chiolite in order to gain a better understanding of the atomic motions associated with the phase transition in cryolite, and Na diffusion in cryolite and chiolite. 27Al, 23Na, and 19F static NMR spectra and T1's in cryolite suggest that oscillatory motions of the [AlF6] octahedra among four micro-twin and anti-phase domains in α-cryolite begin at least 150° C below the transition temperature and persist above it. Variable temperature 23Na MAS NMR further indicates diffusional exchange at a rate of at least 13 kHz between the Na sites by the time the transition temperature is reached. 27Al and 23Na T1's show the same behavior with increasing temperature, indicating the same relaxation mechanisms are responsible for both. The first order nature of the cryolite transition is apparent as a jump in the 23Na and 27Al T1's. Above the transition temperature, the T1's decrease slightly indicating that the motions responsible for the drop in T1, are still present above the transition, further supporting the dynamic nature of the high temperature phase of cryolite. Chiolite 23Na static spectra decrease in linewidth with increasing temperature, indicating increased Na diffusion, which is interpreted as occurring within the [NaF6] sheets in the chiolite structure, but not between the two different Na sites. 27Al and 23Na T1's show similar behavior as in cryolite, but there is no discontinuity due to a phase transition. 19F T1's are constant from room temperature to 150° C indicating no oscillatory motion of the [AlF6] octahedra in chiolite.  相似文献

This work presents new experimental results on the kinetics of mineral dissolution in near-critical and supercritical water in a temperature range (T) from 25 to 400℃ and a constant pressure of 23 MPa. Kinetic experiments were carried out by using a flow reactor (packed bed reactor) of an open system. The dissolution rates of albite and magnetite were measured under these experimental conditions. Na, Al and Si release rates for albite dissolution in water were measured as a function of the temperature and flow velocity in the reaction system. The maximum release rates of Na, AI and Si of albite dissolution in the hydrothermal flow systems under different flow velocities were always obtained at 300℃, that is to say, the maximum albite dissolution rates in the flow systems, regardless of different flow rates, were repeatedly measured at 300℃. Results indicate a wide fluctuation in albite dissolution rates occurring close to the critical point of water. The dissolution rates increased when the temperatu  相似文献

This paper presents a solid state 1H, 23Na, 29Si, and 119Sn nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study of sorensenite. New 29Si NMR data for two related pyroxenoids, wollastonite and pectolite, are included for comparison. By more sensitively probing chemical bonding, the element-specific NMR observations both complement and reinforce the x-ray diffraction results. The role of hydrogen and its interactions with neighboring atoms in sorensenite is further clarified. The wollastonite and pectolite 29Si spectra resolve for the first time all three crystallographic sites and their comparison with sorensenite reveals subtle, systematic differences in sites along the pyroxenoid chains. Effects of corner-shared BeO4 tetrahedra on 29Si shifts show that sorensenite may also be viewed as a more polymerized silicoberyllate. Contribution to the mineralogy of Ilimaussaq No. 86  相似文献

Calculations of the equilibrium distribution of Al, Si in the albite framework based on quasi-chemical theories of order, disorder transformations (Yang 1945; Yang and Li 1947; Li 1949) were made for a two-dimensional framework model. The ordering is caused by the energy of Al, Si interchange between sites of different crystal-chemical types and the energy of nearest neighbour interaction. By taking into account the decrease in the energy of interchange between sites with increasing disordering and with increasing temperature, and by examining different relationships for site-to-site interchange energy and the nearest neighbour interaction, it is possible to understand the basic characteristics of the transformation from low (essentially ordered) to high (essentially disordered) albite as revealed by experiment. These characteristics are: (1) abrupt variation of the equilibrium degree of order within a narrow temperature range and possible first order phase transformation for the transition from low-albite to high-albite, (2) hysteresis of the synthetic high albite transformation path and of the low albite hydrothermal “annealing” path, (3) presence of a temperature range where high albite is stable and has a continually changing equilibrium degree of order.  相似文献
