The absolute luminosities and homogeneity of early-time infrared (IR) light curves of type Ia supernovae are examined. Eight supernovae are considered. These are selected to have accurately known epochs of maximum blue light as well as having reliable distance estimates and/or good light curve coverage. Two approaches to extinction correction are considered. Owing to the low extinction in the IR, the differences in the corrections via the two methods are small. Absolute magnitude light curves in the J , H and K bands are derived. Six of the events, including five established 'branch-normal' supernovae, show similar coeval magnitudes. Two of these, supernovae (SNe) 1989B and 1998bu, were observed near maximum infrared light. This occurs about 5 d before maximum blue light. Absolute peak magnitudes of about −19.0, −18.7 and −18.8 in J , H and K respectively were obtained. The two spectroscopically peculiar supernovae in the sample, SNe 1986G and 1991T, also show atypical IR behaviour. The light curves of the six similar supernovae can be represented fairly consistently with a single light curve in each of the three bands. In all three IR bands the dispersion in absolute magnitude is about 0.15 mag, and this can be accounted for within the uncertainties of the individual light curves. No significant variation of absolute IR magnitude with B -band light curve decline rate, Δ m 15( B ), is seen over the range 0.87<Δ m 15( B )<1.31. However, the data are insufficient to allow us to decide whether or not the decline rate relation is weaker in the IR than in the optical region. IR light curves of type Ia supernovae should eventually provide cosmological distance estimates that are of equal, or even superior, quality to those obtained in optical studies.  相似文献

Photoelectric observations of the peculiar eclipsing variable ER Vul were obtained in blue and yellow light, in the 1981 and 1982 observing seasons. The light curves suffer to change in short time-intervals. The wave-like distortion superimposed on the light curves is clearly seen, but sometimes there is no indication about its existence. The migration period has been estimated roughtly about eight months. Moreover, small-amplitude light fluctuations in the light curves are noticeable. These variations seem to be occur randomly. When the IUE and optical observations are taken into consideration together it is strongly suggested that both of the components in the system ER Vul are too active.  相似文献

We study the machine learning method for classifying the basic shape of space debris in both simulated and observed data experiments, where light curves are used as the input features. In the dataset for training and testing, simulated light curves are derived from four types of debris within different shapes and materials. Observed light curves are extracted from Mini-Mega TORTORA (MMT) database which is a publicly accessible source of space object photometric records. The experiments employ the deep convolutional neural network, make comparisons with other machine learning algorithms, and the results show CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) is better. In simulational experiments, both types of cylinder can be distinguished perfectly, and two other types of satellite have around 90% probability to be classified. Rockets and defunct satellites can achieve 99% success rate in binary classification, but in further sub-classes classifications, the rate becomes relatively lower.  相似文献

UBV photoelectric light curves of the eclipsing variable DK Cyg, were obtained in four nights of September 1986. They are compared with the previous light curves of the system. The primary shows a transit, so the star maybe classified with the A-type WUMa systems. Two salient points arise from the light curves: first, the secondary maximum is increasing in brightness, and secondly, the secondary minimum is varying in depth. These changing patterns of surface brightness may be due to the instabilities of an energy transfer process between the components. The (O-C) diagram shows a parabolic trend, indicating a seculariy increasing period.  相似文献

The long-period eclipsing binary star V367 Cygni has been observed photoelectrically in two colours,B andV, in 1984, 1985, and 1986. These new light curves of the system have been discussed and compared for the light-variability with the earlier ones presented by Heiser (1962). Using some of the previously published photoelectric light curves and the present ones, several primary minima times have been derived to calculate the light elements. Any attempt to obtain a photometric solution of the binary is so complicated by the peculiar nature of the light curve caused by the presence of the circumstellar matter in the system. Despite this difficulty, however, some approaches are being carried out to solve the light curves which will be discussed shortly.  相似文献

Salient features of the analysis of the mutual event light curves of planetary satellites are presented. The need to carefully evaluate the flux contribution of the occulting/eclipsing satellite to the total flux is illustrated. Albedo variations on the satellites will produce signatures on the mutual event light curves. The partial events of the upcoming mutual event series of the uranian satellites can be modeled taking into account the albedo variations inferred from the maps of the southern regions imaged by Voyager 2 when only these regions are occulted/eclipsed. This will enable a robust determination of the astrometric parameters. The shape and asymmetry of the mutual event light curves along with the rotational light curves of the satellites obtained simultaneously during the planet's equinox crossing period can be utilized to obtain a coarse albedo map of the northern hemisphere of the satellites. These studies will also help in investigating possible changes in the known southern regions since the 1986 encounter of Voyager 2.  相似文献

We present the full VRI light curves and the times of minima of TY UMa to provide a complete photometric solution and a long-term trend of period variation. The light curves show a high degree of asymmetry (the O'Connell effect). The maxima at 0.25 phase (Max I) are 0.021, 0.015, and 0.020 mag fainter than those at 0.75 phase (Max II) in V , R , and I , respectively. The period of TY UMa has varied in a sinusoidal way, superimposed on the long-term upward parabolic variation. The secularly increasing rate of the period is deduced as 1.83 s per century  ( P˙ / P =5.788×10-10 d d-1)  . The period of sinusoidal variation is about 57.4 yr. The spot model has been applied to fit the asymmetric light curves of TY UMa, to explain light variations. By changing only the spot parameters, the model light curves can fit the observed light curves for three epochs. This indicates that the variation of the spot location and size is the main reason for changing the shape of light curves, including two different maxima and the interchanging depths of occultation and transit minima.  相似文献

The observations of the peculiar eclipsing binary RT Lac were continued during the observing seasons of 1982 and 1983. The salient properties of the light curves were presented. The shallowest primary eclipse was observed in 1983. When the light curves, obtained in six years sucessively, are interpreted together it is seen that the variations of the brightness at mid-primary and second maximum are too similar to each other. The colour variations at mid-primary also follow those variations in the brightness. These circumstances indicate that the starspot hypothesis is insufficient alone to explain all the phenomena observed. The earlier spectral type G9 companion may be intrinsically variable and the unusual distortion on the light curves following the secondary eclipse may arise from the gas-stream from larger K star to the G9 star.  相似文献

Light curves are usually constructed from discrete observational data by interpolation. In most cases, the observation data is temporally uneven, and therefore the light curve is usually derived by the interpolation of the binned data with the spline function, which is intended for reducing the “high sample noise” (i.e., the variability in the timescales comparable with the bin width). Such a practice of course reduces the time resolution of the light curve. It is known that function approximation is one of the most important applications of the artificial neural networks (ANN). In this work, for the first time we tentatively use the ANN to construct light curves from unevenly sampled variability data. To demonstrate the advantages of ANN for signal reconstruction over commonly used cubic spline function scheme, two sets of simulated periodic functions are used with random noises of varying magnitudes, one single frequency based and one multiple (two) frequency based. These signal reconstruction tests show that the ANN is clearly superior to the cubic spline scheme. As a case study, we use the uneven long-term multi-band monitoring data of BL lacertae to derive the light curves with ANN. It is found that the light curves derived with ANN have higher time resolution than those with the cubic spline function adopted in previous works. We recommend using ANN for the signal reconstruction in astrophysical data analysis as well as that of in other fields.  相似文献

We present the first statistical analysis of 27 Ultraviolet Optical Telescope (UVOT) optical/ultraviolet light curves of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows. We have found, through analysis of the light curves in the observer's frame, that a significant fraction rise in the first 500 s after the GRB trigger, all light curves decay after 500 s, typically as a power law with a relatively narrow distribution of decay indices, and the brightest optical afterglows tend to decay the quickest. We find that the rise could be either produced physically by the start of the forward shock, when the jet begins to plough into the external medium, or geometrically where an off-axis observer sees a rising light curve as an increasing amount of emission enters the observers line of sight, which occurs as the jet slows. We find that at 99.8 per cent confidence, there is a correlation, in the observed frame, between the apparent magnitude of the light curves at 400 s and the rate of decay after 500 s. However, in the rest frame, a Spearman rank test shows only a weak correlation of low statistical significance between luminosity and decay rate. A correlation should be expected if the afterglows were produced by off-axis jets, suggesting that the jet is viewed from within the half-opening angle θ or within a core of a uniform energy density  θc  . We also produced logarithmic luminosity distributions for three rest-frame epochs. We find no evidence for bimodality in any of the distributions. Finally, we compare our sample of UVOT light curves with the X-ray Telescope (XRT) light-curve canonical model. The range in decay indices seen in UVOT light curves at any epoch is most similar to the range in decay of the shallow decay segment of the XRT canonical model. However, in the XRT canonical model, there is no indication of the rising behaviour observed in the UVOT light curves.  相似文献

B andV light curves for one epoch and radial velocity curves of three different epochs have been analyzed to revise the solution of TX UMa. The solution has been adjusted simultaneously in the light curves and radial velocity curves by the method of Wilson and Devinney's differential correction. The primary star's surface rotation rate to synchronous rate is determined as 1.768 from one of the radial velocity curves. The absolute dimension of the system has been deduced based on the simultaneous solution. The primary star is well fitted to the evolutionary track for a single star while the secondary star, while filling its Roche lobe, is fitted to the evolutionary track for a close binary system.  相似文献

We present two new sets of complete light curves of EQ Tauri (EQ Tau) observed in 2000 October and 2004 December. These were analysed, together with the light curves obtained by Yang & Liu in 2001 December, with the 2003 version of the Wilson–Devinney code. In the three observing seasons, the light curves show a noticeable variation in the time-scale of years. The more massive component of EQ Tau is a solar-type star (G2) with a very deep convective envelope, which rotates about 80 times as fast as the Sun. Therefore, the change can be explained by dark-spot activity on the common convective envelope. The assumed unperturbed part of the light curve and the radial velocities published by Rucinski et al. were used to determine the basic parameters of the system, which were kept fixed for spot modelling in the three sets of light curves. The results reveal that the total spotted area on the more massive component covers 18, 3 and 20 per cent of the photospheric surface in the three observing seasons, respectively. Polar spots and high-latitude spots are found. The analysis of the orbital period has demonstrated that it undergoes cyclical oscillation, which is due to either a tertiary component or periodic magnetic activity in the more massive component.  相似文献

We present a detrending algorithm for the removal of trends in time series. Trends in time series could be caused by various systematic and random noise sources such as cloud passages, changes of airmass, telescope vibration, CCD noise or defects of photometry. Those trends undermine the intrinsic signals of stars and should be removed. We determine the trends from subsets of stars that are highly correlated among themselves. These subsets are selected based on a hierarchical tree clustering algorithm. A bottom-up merging algorithm based on the departure from normal distribution in the correlation is developed to identify subsets, which we call clusters. After identification of clusters, we determine a trend per cluster by weighted sum of normalized light curves. We then use quadratic programming to detrend all individual light curves based on these determined trends. Experimental results with synthetic light curves containing artificial trends and events are presented. Results from other detrending methods are also compared. The developed algorithm can be applied to time series for trend removal in both narrow and wide field astronomy.  相似文献

Based on an analysis of light curves of 223 long-period variables of the Mira Ceti type, recorded using the HIPPARCOS space telescope, it is shown that all the light curves of these stars can be divided by outward form into two groups: stars exhibiting simple light curves of sinusoidal shape and stars with complicated light curves, with hump-shaped formations on the ascending branch of the curve. Some observational parameters of the investigated stars display a tendency to separation into groups of stars with complicated and simple light curves. Stars with complicated light curves have longer periods, they are brighter in absolute bolometric magnitude, and there is a greater probability of detecting polarization in their light. Quantities characterizing light curves of contact binaries of W UMa-type are introduced. For 2700 cases, theoretical light curves of contact binaries are computed by the light curve synthesis method, and characteristic quantities for these light curves are tabulated. An example of application of the table to the light curve analysis of contact binaries is shown, and the errors inherent in the solution are also discussed.  相似文献

We present a multi-wavelength timing study of the eclipsing low mass X-ray binary EXO 0748-676 (UY Vol) using XMM-Newton when the source was in a hard spectral state. The orbital optical and X-ray light curves show a fairly large amount of intensity modulation in the 7 observations taken during September-November, 2003, covering 36 complete binary orbits of EXO 0748-676. While assessing the non-burst variability, simultaneously in the optical and X-ray light curves, we find that they are not correlated at reprocessing or orbital time-scales, but are weakly correlated at a few 1000s of seconds time-scales. Although a large fraction of the optical emission is likely to be due to reprocessing, the lack of significant correlation and presence of large variability in the orbital X-ray and optical light curves is probably due to structures and structural changes in the accretion disk that produce, and sometimes mask the reprocessed signal in varying amounts. These disk structures could be induced, at least partly, by irradiation. From the observed modulations seen in the optical light curves, there is strong evidence of accretion disk evolution at time scales of a few hours.  相似文献

New ground-based BV RI CCD observations of the eclipsing binary systems NN Vir and YY CrB are analyzed and illustrated. New times of minima are given and new ephemerides are proposed. The light curves are analyzed with the Wilson-Devinney light curve synthesis code and new geometric and photometric elements are derived. These elements are used together with the available spectroscopic data to compute absolute elements. The evolutionary status of each system is studied by means of mass-radius diagrams. The systems NN Vir and YY CrB are found to be A-type and W-type W UMa systems, respectively.  相似文献

This paper presents new CCD BVRI light curves of the newly discovered RS CVn eclipsing binary star DV Psc. From the asymmetric light curves outside the eclipse, we find there are two depressions in the phase ranges 0.3–0.45 and 0.6–0.9, respectively. By analyzing the light curves using the Wilson–Devinney program, the four photometric solutions of the system are obtained and the starspot parameters are also derived. It turns out that the case of two spots being on the primary is most successful in reproducing the light curve distortion of DV Psc. Moreover, analysis the longitudes of spots suggests that there are two active longitude belts (one is about 90°, the other is about 270°). At the same time, on 22 November 2008, the first flare-like event was detected on DV Psc at phase 0.35 whose duration was about 13.5 min. These findings reveal that DV Psc has a high degree of magnetic activity.  相似文献
