Based on empirical monthly data on the parameters of oscillations in the horizontal wind component of the diurnal migrating tide, we calculated the altitude-latitude distributions of the parameters of oscillations in the vertical wind component of the diurnal tide in the region of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (80–100 km). The initial data were obtained from satellite observations of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere at altitudes from 90 to 120 km and from data of ground-based sounding of this region using the radio meteor method and the method of partial reflections in the altitude range from 80 to 100 km. We compare the resulting distributions with the results of numerical modeling for the migrating diurnal tide using a global circulation model for the middle and upper atmosphere. It is shown that, accurate to measurement errors, there is a good agreement between the distributions of parameters of the migrating diurnal tide obtained by the models. One specific feature of the empirical distributions of the amplitude of the vertical wind oscillations is that there are three regions of increased amplitude values—in the vicinity of the equator and at 30° N and 30° S latitudes—which were observed for all seasons. The maximum value of the amplitude of the vertical wind oscillations is approximately 0.1 m/s. The divergence of the Eliassen-Palm flux was estimated to be on the order of 10 m s−1 day−1.  相似文献

The height-latitude distributions of parameters of the vertical wind component of the semidiurnal tide were calculated for the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) region (80–100 km) on the basis of empirical height-latitude distributions of the monthly mean parameters of variations in the horizontal wind component of the migrating semidiurnal tide. The constructed distributions are compared with the results of a numerical modeling of the migrating semidiurnal tide with the aid of a model of global circulation in the middle and upper atmosphere, as well as with the parameters of semidiurnal temperature variations obtained from the data of satellite measurements. It is shown that different models yield the distributions of parameters of semidiurnal variations, which agree within the errors of their values. The presence of high-latitude regions of local maximal amplitudes is a specific feature of the distributions of parameters of semidiurnal variations in the vertical wind constructed in the course of this work. On the whole, at heights of about 90 km and higher, semidiurnal variations in the vertical wind exceed the prevailing vertical wind in amplitude.  相似文献

Abstract. The short-term effect of elevated water temperatures (Δ t = 5–10°C after passing through the cooling circuit of an electricity generating plant) on plankton in a warm temperate estuary. South Africa, was investigated. Phytoplankton entrained on the flood tide was more severely affected than that entrained on the ebb, but chlorination of cooling water was probably a major factor affecting phytoplankton assemblages. Abundance of zooplankton of marine origin was significantly reduced after passing through the cooling circuit. The effect of thermal stress on the curyhalinc zooplankton was not clear, as the origin of the water canal to the generators is located at the extreme seaward limit of spatial distribution of cstuarinc plankton at low tide. Estuarinc species of zooplankton were therefore infrequently sampled and in low numbers only. Other factors which increase mortality are discussed.  相似文献

A general pattern for turbulent mixing in the upper layer of the South China Sea (SCS) is presented based on TurboMAP measurements in April and May 2010. The turbulence level decreased significantly overall from north to south, and weakened from east to west in the northern SCS. The average dissipation rate north of 18°N reaches 1.69 × 10?8 W/kg, approximately six times larger than that south of 18°N. The mean mixing efficiency in the SCS is 0.2, with a maximum of 0.31 near the Luzon Strait. At one repeatedly occupied station located in the central deep basin, the dissipation rate varies diurnally in the mixed layer and pycnocline due to diurnal heating and cooling by solar radiation and local barotropic tide, respectively.  相似文献

Results of direct measurements of the long-wavelength (LW) radiative heat influx (RHI) in the atmospheric surface layer (ASL) are presented. These measurements were performed in August 2003 at the IAP RAS base in Tsimlyansk under the conditions of unstable and stable stratification during a weak wind and a cloudless sky and under nonsteady conditions during cumulus cloudiness in the daytime. The underlying surface was dry steppe with spars grass. The in situ RHI measurements were performed with an original optoacoustic receiver having a quasi-spherical angle of view at heights from 0.15 to 4 m. It is shown that the radiative heating in the ASL was many times the actual heating, especially during near-noon hours. In the daytime, the radiative heating attained its maximum at the heights of measurements 0.15–1 m and decreased with height. The radiative heating at these heights in the near-noon hours was on average about 20 K/h, attaining 60 K/h under a cloudless sky and a weak wind. Under inversion stratification, the radiative cooling usually exceeded the actual cooling, amounting on average from 0 to ?8 K/h and changing with height only slightly. Periods with close (in phase) fluctuations of the radiative and actual cooling, sometimes changing to heating, were observed during the night. Regression equations, showing a high correlation between the RHI values at the heights of measurements 0.5 and 1 m and the soil-air temperature differences at the height of measurements, are obtained for different heights. The diurnal mean RHI profiles are characterized by a heating on the order of several K/h in the lower part of the layer of measurements, which decreases with height and changes to cooling at heights of up to 4 m. A change in the effective radiation with height in the layer of measurements, which was obtained through the summation of RHI values at several heights, was significant, attaining on average ?25 W/m2 in the near-noon hours and +10 W/m2 in the evening hours. The nonradiative (turbulent) heat influx, obtained as the difference between the rates of actual and radiative temperature variations measured in situ, decreased the radiative heating in the daytime many times. The main sources of error in direct RHI measurements are estimated.  相似文献

The Gironde estuary (France) discharges to the ocean an important amount of suspended particulate matter in the form of turbid plumes. The surface plume is more particularly studied from coastal oceanographic surveys and NOAA/AVHRR satellite data collected during a French programme of coastal oceanography (PNOC-Atlantic). The AVHRR reflectances are atmospherically corrected according to an algorithm based on the clear water concept. The comparison with suspended sediment concentrations are realised by direct and indirect calibrations. The correlations obtained show that at a same concentration the reflectance varies, probably because of varying particle (floc) size and composition. The shape and the surface measured from low resolution (4 km × 4 km) and high resolution (1 km × 1 km) AVHRR data are then compared to the forcings introduced by the fluvial output, the tide, neap and spring tide and the wind variations. The latter have an important effect on the orientation of the distal part of the turbid plume.  相似文献

本文基于FVCOM(Finite Volume Community Ocean Model)构建了一个覆盖中国渤海、黄海和东海的数值模型,采用NCEP-CFSR风场数据对1509号台风“灿鸿”产生的风暴潮进行模拟,与实测水位数据的对比表明该模型可靠、模拟结果合理。基于此模型,本文对非线性作用和地形在风暴潮增水过程中的作用进行了研究。首先,重点分析了增水过程中潮汐与风暴潮的非线性作用,结果表明:高潮时非线性作用使增水值降低;低潮时非线性作用使增水值升高。另外,开边界处分别只添加M2、S2和K1分潮,分析天文潮的潮高和周期对非线性作用的影响,结果表明:潮高越高,非线性作用越明显;半日潮的非线性作用较全日潮更明显;并且,增水极值附近出现的半日周期的波动也与非线性作用有关。其次,除了非线性作用,地形对风暴潮的增水也有一定影响,本文改变地形的实验结果表明:坡度越大,增水极值越小。琉球群岛的存在使得东南沿海出现风暴潮增水的面积减小,但使得风暴潮增水的高值区域扩大。  相似文献

Observations of downward radiative flux at the sea surface generally contain uncertainty due to limited numbers of observations and limitations of auxiliary equipment. The lack of shading from direct solar radiation and ventilation systems causes bias or random errors. To evaluate the error of radiation measurements at buoys, downward shortwave and longwave radiative fluxes are compared with International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP), Japanese 55-year Reanalysis (JRA55), and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) retrieved model calculations of 3-h and daytime averages. Cloud masking is evaluated by a combination of MTSAT-1R and in situ observations. Coincident observations from a land-surface station located near the buoy observatories are compared with satellite and reanalysis products. The bias at buoys, compared with retrievals, approximately over- and under-estimate for longwave and shortwave fluxes, respectively. The bias at buoys is larger and smaller than the land by 23–34 W m?2 for longwave and 13–51 W m?2 for shortwave radiation using 3-h averages under clear-sky conditions. The differences in bias decrease when using daytime averages for longwave, but the difference for shortwave increases with daytime averages. To evaluate the effect of environmental factors on buoy observations, we compared rainfall, wind speed, and solar zenith angle with the biases. We found that rainfall and wind speed affect buoy pyrgeometers such that they overestimate the longwave flux. The cosine of solar zenith angle does not cause overestimation for longwave flux, and the effect of dome heating is small. The strong wind causes underestimation of the shortwave radiative flux due to tilting. The effect of wind is reduced when daily averages are used.  相似文献

A 24 hour time series survey was carried out during a spring tide (tidal range ca.2 m) of May 1995 on a tidal estuary in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan, in the context of an integrated program planned to quantify the dynamics of biophilic elements (carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus) and the roles played by the macrobenthos on the processes. Three stations were set along a transect line of about 1.4 km, which linked the river to the rear to the innermost part of the subtidal zone. Every hour, at each station, measurements were made of surface water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen concentration, and surface water was collected for the determination of nutrients [NH4 +−N, (NO3 +NO2 )−N, PO4 3−−P and Si (OH)4−Si]. During the ebb flow, riverine input of silicate and nitrate+nitrite significantly increased the concentrations of both the intertidal and the subtidal stations. Conversely, during the high tide, river nutrient concentrations were lowered by the mixing of fresh water with sea water. As a result, best (inverse) correlations were found at the river station for salinity against silicate (y=-2.9 Sal.+110.7,r 2=0.879) and nitrate+nitrite (y=-1.3 Sal.+48.4,r 2=0.796). In contrast, ammonium nitrogen concentrations were higher at intermediate salinities. Indeed, no significant correlation was found between salinity and ammonium. The effect of the macrobenthos, which is abundant on the intertidal flat, is discussed as a biological component that influences the processes of nutrient regeneration within the estuary. The effect of the tidal amplitude is an important one in determining the extent of the variations in nutrient concentrations at all three stations, which were stronger between the lower low tide and the higher high tide.  相似文献

A period of intense mixing, causing an increase in the salinity of the surface layer from 2‰ to 7‰, occurs during the ebb tide in the upper reaches of the Tees estuary. This follows the passage of internal waves of 1–2 min period. Assuming an upstream direction of propagation, the measurements indicate that the internal waves would have been released on the previous ebb tide. The waves, which would then advect with the ensuing flood, could break and cause the mixing period. However, the waves may alternatively travel downstream, and other mechanisms may be responsible for the mixing. It may be, for instance, that the mixing was generated at one of two bridges 2–3 km upstream from the observation station, and then advected downstream on the ebbing tide. Further studies are needed to clarify the situation.  相似文献

大气CO2持续升高,导致溶入海水中的CO2增多,海水表层的H+浓度增加,从而引起海洋酸化。为了探讨近岸定生大型海藻对这种环境变化的响应,本文选择经济海藻坛紫菜为实验材料,研究海洋酸化与紫外辐射对藻体生长以及光合特性的影响。实验分两个CO2处理,分别为正常空气水平(390 ppmv)和高CO2水平(800 ppmv); 三种辐射处理,分别为全波长辐射(PAB)、滤除紫外线B(PA)和仅接受可见光处理(PAR)。研究结果表明,CO2培养下的坛紫菜,在仅有可见光(P)或者同时有紫外线A(PA)存在的情况下,显著促进藻体的生长;但在全波长辐射处理下(PAB),这种作用不明显。高CO2降低了藻体在P和PA处理下的光合作用速率,但对PAB处理作用不显著。高CO2处理下的藻体,UV-B显著降低了全波长辐射下藻体紫外吸收物质的含量,但在正常CO2水平下,紫外辐射的作用不显著。这表明高CO2导致的生长优势被紫外辐射的负面效应所抵消,在全球变化的过程中,紫外辐射的进一步加强在海洋酸化的背景下甚至有可能降低坛紫菜的产量。  相似文献

An interactive three-dimensional chemistry-climate model combining models of the gas composition and general circulation of the lower and middle atmosphere is used to study the impact of changes in extra-atmospheric solar radiative fluxes induced by solar activity on the stratospheric heating and subsequent temperature and ozone variations in the stratosphere and troposphere. The results have shown that a change in the atmospheric radiative heating resulting from variations in solar activity has a direct effect on the temperature and circulation of the atmosphere. Atmospheric temperature variations affect the rates of temperature-dependent chemical reactions, and this is considered the first type of indirect impact of solar activity on the atmospheric gas composition. On the other hand, as a result of the variation in atmospheric heating, its circulation changes, thus affecting the transport of minor gases into the atmosphere. This effect is considered the second type of indirect impact of solar activity on atmospheric gases. The results of our calculations have shown that both types of indirect impact of the variation in solar activity on the atmospheric gas composition are comparable in order of magnitude to the direct impact of solar activity on atmospheric gases.  相似文献

By measuring the maximum water level of the traces attained by the Japan Sea Tsunami on 26 May 1983, we obtained the distribution along the west coast of the northeast Japan. The level reaches a maximum at the coast eastward of the epicenter and decreases with the relationship 8.6e –0.017x (m) with distancex (km) measured from the coast nearest to the epicenter. A small increase of levels was observed at coasts to the south of the tsunami source having distance larger than 200 km. With the aid of tide gauge records we revealed an excitation of edge wave which brought about the small increase of levels at the southern coast. In comparison with the decrease with distance obtained on the coasts of the main islands of Japan, some noticeable peaks were observed at several small islands. It is suggested that the reason why a short period component is predominant for the initial wave motion of tsunami is that the source region has depth of 3, 000 meters. The feature of wave period is discussed in comparison with that of the 1964 Niigata Tsunami.  相似文献

Recent realistic high resolution modeling studies show a net increase of submesoscale activity in fall and winter when the mixed layer depth is at its maximum. This submesoscale activity increase is associated with a reduced deepening of the mixed layer. Both phenomena can be related to the development of mixed layer instabilities, which convert available potential energy into submesoscale eddy kinetic energy and contribute to a fast restratification by slumping the horizontal density gradient in the mixed layer. In the present work, the mixed layer formation and restratification were studied by uniformly cooling a fully turbulent zonal jet in a periodic channel at different resolutions, from eddy resolving (10 km) to submesoscale permitting (2 km). The effect of the submesoscale activity, highlighted by these different horizontal resolutions, was quantified in terms of mixed layer depth, restratification rate and buoyancy fluxes. Contrary to many idealized studies focusing on the restratification phase only, this study addresses a continuous event of mixed layer formation followed by its complete restratification. The robustness of the present results was established by ensemble simulations. The results show that, at higher resolution, when submesoscale starts to be resolved, the mixed layer formed during the surface cooling is significantly shallower and the total restratification is almost three times faster. Such differences between coarse and fine resolution models are consistent with the submesoscale upward buoyancy flux, which balances the convection during the formation phase and accelerates the restratification once the surface cooling is stopped. This submesoscale buoyancy flux is active even below the mixed layer. Our simulations show that mesoscale dynamics also cause restratification, but on longer time scales. Finally, the spatial distribution of the mixed layer depth is highly heterogeneous in the presence of submesoscale activity, prompting the question of whether it is possible to parameterize submesoscale effects and their effects on the marine biology as a function of a spatially-averaged mixed layer depth.  相似文献

Ultrasonically tagged flounders were tracked in the estuary of the River Bann, Northern Ireland, for periods of between 2 and 12 h (11 fish for a total of 92 h and 2·5 km), during their summer residence. Positions were determined by triangulation with two receivers.All fish remained within 400 m of the release point; on average flounders moved about 270 m during one tidal cycle, equivalent to 830 body lengths, or just over 1 body length per minute. Movements were most likely at dusk, but other parameters were not contingent upon time of day, although no data were gathered at dawn. Frequency, direction, distance, speed and duration of movement and turn rate were all significantly contingent upon state of the tide. The movement data are interpreted in terms of feeding behaviour, supported by results from other parts of the study. At high tide flounders made active but meandering searches for food on the inundated mudflats. Similar but faster searches heading downstream on falling tides reflected (a) completion of feeding while littoral invertebrates were still available and (b) avoidance of stranding. Flounders made infrequent but long and linear passages downstream at low tide, when they tended to bury themselves at the edge of the main channel where there was little food. Subsequently, the fish followed the rising tide upstream so that the cycle of movements kept most fish in the same area of the estuary in the short term. It is suggested that tolerance of changing salinities enables flounders, more than other flatfish species, to exploit dense populations of estuarine intertidal invertebrates as food.  相似文献

From November 24 to 26, 2014, a red tide event occurred in the offshore water off the Hailing Island located at the western Guangdong coast. The red tide appeared as pink strips distributed within 3 km in the offshore water and extended for about 10 km along the shoreline. During the flood tide, the pink seawater rushed to the beach with breaking waves, forming foam strips on the beach. Guangdong Province Key Laboratory for Coastal Ocean Variation and Disaster Prediction Technologies, Guangdong Ocean University, emergently responded to the event and organized three-dimensional observations from the air, onboard and on beach. The preliminary analyses of the cruise data and water samples indicate that the event was induced by nontoxic Noctiluca scintillans, of which the concentration reaches as high as 4 200 cells/L near the surface and 2 600 cells/L at the bottom.  相似文献

基于考虑辐射应力机制的近岸高分辨率的波浪和潮汐风暴潮相互作用耦合数值模式 ,研究了辐射应力在黄河三角洲胜利油田近岸海域波浪和潮汐风暴潮相互作用过程中对水位的影响 ,并与两个中等强度天气过程引发的实测水位过程进行比较。结果表明 ,考虑辐射应力机制的波浪和潮汐风暴潮相互作用耦合模式模拟的结果与实测更接近 ,特别在极值增水位处吻合很好。对本研究的中等强度天气过程 ,辐射应力可增水 40cm ,在黄河三角洲近岸区有 2 0cm以上最大增水区域 ,这在工程上非常重要。可以预见 ,对引发黄河三角洲沿岸强增水的台风及强寒潮过程 ,辐射应力对增水的影响会更明显。本研究结果表明 ,在实际工程应用中 ,应采用波浪和潮汐风暴潮相互作用耦合数值模式。  相似文献

A global ocean tide model (NAO.99b model) representing major 16 constituents with a spatial resolution of 0.5° has been estimated by assimilating about 5 years of TOPEX/POSEIDON altimeter data into barotropic hydrodynamical model. The new solution is characterized by reduced errors in shallow waters compared to the other two models recently developed; CSR4.0 model (improved version of Eanes and Bettadpur, 1994) and GOT99.2b model (Ray, 1999), which are demonstrated in comparison with tide gauge data and collinear residual reduction test. This property mainly benefits from fine-scale along-track tidal analysis of TOPEX/POSEIDON data. A high-resolution (1/12°) regional ocean tide model around Japan (NAO.99Jb model) by assimilating both TOPEX/POSEIDON data and 219 coastal tide gauge data is also developed. A comparison with 80 independent coastal tide gauge data shows the better performance of NAO.99Jb model in the coastal region compared with the other global models. Tidal dissipation around Japan has been investigated for M2 and K1 constituents by using NAO.99Jb model. The result suggests that the tidal energy is mainly dissipated by bottom friction in localized area in shallow seas; the M2 ocean tidal energy is mainly dissipated in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea at the mean rate of 155 GW, while the K1 energy is mainly dissipated in the Sea of Okhotsk at the mean rate of 89 GW. TOPEX/POSEIDON data, however, detects broadly distributed surface manifestation of M2 internal tide, which observationally suggests that the tidal energy is also dissipated by the energy conversion into baroclinic tide.  相似文献

In this study an analytical tide model of uniform width with three sub-regions is presented. The three-subregions model takes into account step-like variations in depths in the direction of the channel as a way to examine the M2 tide of the East China Sea (ECS) as well as the Yellow Sea (YS). A modified Proudman radiation condition has been applied at the northern open head, while the sea surface elevation is specified at the southern open boundary. It is seen that, due to the presence of an abrupt change in depth, co-amplitude lines of the M2 tide are splitted to the east and west near the end of the ECS shelf region. Variations in depths, bottom friction and the open head boundary conditions all contribute to the determination of formation of amphidromes as well as overall patterns of M2 tidal distribution. It is seen that increasing water depth and bottom friction in the ECS shelf results in the westward shift of the southern amphidrome. There is however no hint at all of the well-known degenerated tidal pattern being formed. It is inferred that a lateral variation of water depth has to be somehow incorporated to represent the tidal patterns in ECS in a realistic manner. Regarding the radiation factor introduced by Fang et al. (1991), use of a value larger than one, possibly with a phase shift, appears to be a proper way of incorporating the reflected waves from the northern Yellow Sea (NYS).
