Shear strength of municipal solid waste for stability analyses   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper investigates the shear strength of municipal solid waste (MSW) using the back analysis of failed waste slopes as well as field and laboratory test results. Shear strength of MSW is a function of many factors such as waste type, composition, compaction, daily cover, moisture conditions, age, decomposition, overburden pressure, etc. These factors together with non-standardized sampling methods, insufficient sample size to be representative of in situ conditions, and limited shear displacement or axial strain imposed during the laboratory shear testing have created considerable scatter in reported results. Based on the data presented herein, large shear displacements are required to mobilize the peak shear strength of MSW which can lead to displacement incompatibility between MSW and the underlying material(s) such as geosynthetic interfaces and foundation soils. The data presented herein are used to develop displacement compatible shear strength parameters for MSW. Recommendations are presented for modeling the displacement and stress dependent strength envelope in stability analyses.  相似文献

The effect of particle size of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste on methane potentiel was investigated and tested at different substrate-to-inoculum ratios (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0). The highest methane yield was obtained with particle size fraction > 3 mm at S/I of 0.1. Thermo-alkali and thermo-acid methods were also tested as pretreatment to increase the organic matter solubilization and subsequently methane production. The results indicated that maximum variation (63.6%) of soluble chemical oxygen demand was obtained by thermo-acid method. Optimum conditions of thermo-alkali pretreatment were pH 10, time reaction of 30 min and temperature of 105 °C. Soluble chemical oxygen demand and reducing sugar variations reached, respectively, 40 and 69% under these conditions. The methane yield of untreated and thermochemical pretreated OFMSW was determined in batch condition. The highest methane yield (260.9 L/kg VS) was obtained with thermo-alkali pretreatment, which was 21% higher than that of raw substrate. This study may pave a new way for industrial application of dealing with the organic fraction of municipal solid waste.  相似文献

通过室内蠕变-降解对比试验,研究了城市固体废弃物(MSW)的长期变形过程,详细地分析了MSW应变、沉降速率以及孔隙比随时间的变化规律。试验结果显示,考虑有机物降解情况下沉降速率与时间在双对数坐标下呈线性关系;不同的生物降解条件下MSW的变形特性表现出不同的规律。研究表明,MSW的蠕变变形是应力与有机物生物降解耦合作用的结果,采用室内蠕变-降解试验可以很好地模拟垃圾土的沉降变形过程,为室内进一步研究垃圾土的蠕变降解特性提供了很好的依据。  相似文献

在调查分析了典型生活垃圾填埋场成分组成的基础上,配制了9组具有不同初始物理力学性质的垃圾土,共54个试样,进行室内常规固结试验。试样有两种尺寸,用来对比试样尺寸的影响;着重分析了初始含水量W、初始孔隙比e0及易降解有机物含量B0对垃圾填土压缩性的影响。试样的初始孔隙比变化范围为:e0 为2.5~4.6;初始含水量w的变化为50 %~100 %;易降解有机物含量B0 为10.1 %~45.1 %。分析结果表明,压缩指数Cc为0.824 2~1.234 6;修正压缩指数 为0.165 9~0.243 6,与国内外相似研究的取值基本一致。提出了考虑垃圾填土初始物理参数的压缩参数建议取值方法,为指导工程实践提供参考。  相似文献

城市固体废弃物(MSW)是由多种无机和有机成分组成的复合材料,具有高压缩性和可降解性。随着时间的变化,基本的物理力学特性发生变化,与传统土体相比,性质差异较大。城市固体废弃物的本构模型对于垃圾填埋场中土工问题的研究极其重要,考虑不同因素的影响,系统总结了国内外一些学者对MSW本构模型的研究现状,指出已有的研究成果主要考虑了荷载引起的瞬时变形、机械蠕变、生物降解、纤维物质的加筋作用等,但这些都是考虑单个因素或者将几个因素简单叠加的本构模型,并未考虑不同因素的耦合作用。结合土体本构模型的发展特点,指出了今后城市固体废弃物本构模型的研究方向和发展趋势:应当综合考虑各种因素对MSW应力-应变关系的影响,从工程实践出发,通过岩土工程、环境工程、化学工程和生物工程等学科的交叉寻求突破,形成考虑生化反应-骨架变形-水气运移-溶质迁移耦合作用的理论框架。  相似文献

城市生活垃圾土的成分非常复杂,大量纤维材料(如塑料、纺织物、皮革等)的存在使得其力学性质与普通土体之间存在明显差异。现有土体本构模型难以对垃圾土的力学行为进行较好的模拟。对此将垃圾土看作是由纤维材料和泥状物(除纤维材料外剩余的成分)组成的复合体,荷载作用下垃圾土的力学特性取决于纤维材料和泥状物的共同作用,并提出了纤维作用参数R的概念。通过构建新的反映纤维加筋作用的塑性势函数,并依据试验结果推导了纤维作用参数R的演化方程,建立了一个能够合理描述垃圾土力学应力-应变特性的弹塑性本构模型。将垃圾土本构模型的计算结果与三轴排水试验结果和他人模型结果进行比较,发现该模型能较好地反映垃圾土应力-应变特性,尤其是应变水平较大时应力-应变曲线上翘的形状,验证了该模型的合理性和有效性。该模型的建立可为更好地服务于垃圾填埋工程提供理论依据。  相似文献

Mercury (Hg) in atmosphere can indicate the air quality and the intensity of the Hg emission sources, and the potential impact of the emission source on the local, regional, and global environments. Landfill is a place where municipal solid waste is transported, dumped, spread, and buried, during these disposal processes, some Hg contained in the wastes will be released into atmosphere. This paper presents different Hg species in the atmosphere over the near surface at 5 landfills, i.e., 3 landfills in Guiyang and 2 landfills in Wuhan. Besides one operational sanitary landfill, Gaoyan, the other four landfills just present the total gaseous mercury (TGM) over 0.1 m above the ground; in the Gaoyan landfill, TGM was measured at two altitudes, 0.1 m and 2 m, and other Hg species, reactive gaseous mercury (R.GM), total particulate mercury (TPM), monomethyl mercury (MMHg) and dimethyl mercury (DMHg) were also monitored at 2 m above the ground. TGM was measured by Tekran 2537A mercury analyzer, RGM was collected by KCl coated denuders, TPM by quartz filters, MMHg absorbed by dilute HCl solution, DMHg absorbed by CarbotrapTM and analyzed by GC-CVAFS. The results showed that the TGM over the closed landfills has an obvious diurnal pattern, with maximum at daytime and minimum during nighttime, which reflects the Hg emission process over the landfill cover surface, the typical average TGM was about 10-30 ng/m^3 at 2 closed landfills, which was several times higher than the global background; at the soil covered part of the active landfills, TGM concentration range and variation are similar to those at the closed landfills; when the weather is clear, the highest TGM appeared at the working face and downwind of the wording face, TGM can reach up to 500 ng/m^3 at these places, but at raining days, there is no distinct discrepancy between TGM measured at the upwind and downwind of the working face.  相似文献

基于城市固体废弃物(MSW)的降解及土力学特征,在应力降解模型、等向压缩特性和邓肯-张模型的理论基础上,建立了一个能够描述MSW应力和降解耦合作用的全量非线性本构模型。给出了不同应力状态下单元体体积和轴向变形随时间变化的数学表达,同时给出了所有参数的确定方法。采用该模型对不同龄期和不同围压条件下填埋场现场试样的三轴CD应力-应变曲线以及室内长期一维降解压缩试验进行了模拟。结果表明,模型概念合理、参数明确,能够较全面地描述不同降解龄期垃圾的本构关系,可用于分析填埋场的长期变形。  相似文献

采用3种不同酸碱度的模拟雨水对生活垃圾进行浸泡实验,使用ORP测定仪和电感耦合等离子体质谱法(ICP-MS)测定了3种不同浸泡介质浸泡下的6个不同时段的浸出液的pH值和重金属浓度,通过分析、计算,研究了生活垃圾重金属的迁移特征。结果表明,重金属元素的动态浸出整体随pH值下降而升高,但相关性不明显,浸出浓度与时间整体上呈负相关关系;浸出总量效果较好的元素为Fe、Mn、Zn、As,较差的为Pb、Sn、H鼽Cd,其他元素中等;阶段浸出率较高的元素有Ni、Co、Cr、Mn、Cd、Cu,较低的元素有Fe,Sn、zn介于中间水平;累积浸出率和累积浸出强度较高的元素有Cr、Mn、Co、Ni、Zn,较低的元素为Fe,Cu、Cd、Sn居于中间水平。利用非线性函数拟合生活垃圾中重金属随时间浸出的浓度,函数拟合相关系数在0.9以上,可对重金属的浸出浓度和浸出总量进行预测。  相似文献

垃圾填埋气的主要成分为CH4、CO2等气体,可严重污染大气、地下水和生态环境,并对全球气候变暖产生一定的影响;同时填埋气也是一种清洁可再生能源和资源,回收和利用垃圾填埋气可实现环境、安全、能源、资源、经济多重效益。目前,垃圾填埋气的利用主要为甲烷利用。本文介绍了填埋气中甲烷资源量的计算方法,采用一阶动力模型对国内城市垃圾填埋气中的甲烷排放量进行了计算和预测,获得了城市生活垃圾填埋气中甲烷的资源量的范围,并分析了国内垃圾填埋气排放的特点和趋势以及国内外对填埋气利用的途径、方法及效果。结合清洁发展机制(CDM)项目和国情分析了垃圾填埋气的利用前景,并提出了填埋气回收利用的主要问题和建议,为国内城市生活垃圾填埋气的利用提供了有益参考。  相似文献

Flow slides in municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills are common geoenvironmental issues in the urban environment and can pose a serious threat to the surrounding population and infrastructure. Prediction of the maximum run-out distance of flow slides in MSW landfills is therefore an essential part of hazard and risk assessment in engineering design. Based on the framework for simple analysis originally developed by Hungr (1995), we propose a simplified analytical model for calculating dam breaks in a plastic fluid along a single inclined base. In the proposed model, a quarter-elliptical shape is used to describe the approximate configuration of the flow slide. Following this step, the physical laws relating to the conservation of mass and energy are used to calculate the potential flow. Of additional note is a boundary condition in mathematics relating to this simplified analytical model, which is also reported in this study. Taking the obvious mobility characteristics of the MSW at point of failure into consideration, a three-phase simplified model along double inclined bases has been further developed for run-out prediction of the flow slide in MSW landfill. The proposed three-phase model is then applied to estimate the maximum run-out distance of two typical flow failures of landfills located in Sarajevo and Bandung, which demonstrate the capability of the proposed simplified analytical model for use in hazard assessments of landfills.  相似文献

The leachate levels in the landfills in southern China are generally high. Field monitoring was carried out in the Suzhou landfill to investigate the leachate mound. The saturated hydraulic conductivity and soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) of municipal solid waste were measured using samples taken from different depths of the landfill. Field monitoring reveals that a perched leachate mound and a substantial main leachate mound existed in the landfill. The saturated hydraulic conductivities of wastes in shallow, middle and deep depth were measured to be 4.81 × 10?2, 3.50 × 10?3 and 3.56 × 10?4 cm/s, respectively. The results of SWCC tests show that the SWCC curve was steep when matric suction was low, and the shallower the waste the steeper would be the curve. In addition to the field and laboratory tests, an unsaturated–saturated seepage analysis was conducted to simulate the development of the high leachate mound and to calculate the annual leachate production. The simulated volumetric water content in the unsaturated zone was about 40 %, which agreed well with the test result. The calculated leachate mound was consistent with the field measurement. The calculated annual and daily leachate productions were all more reasonable than the results of the HELP model.  相似文献

The current practice of slope stability analysis for a municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill usually overlooks the dependence of waste properties on the fill age or embedment depth. Changes in shear strength of MSW as a function of fill age were investigated by performing field and laboratory studies on the Suzhou landfill in China. The field study included sampling from five boreholes advanced to the bottom of the landfill, cone penetration tests and monitoring of pore fluid pressures. Twenty-six borehole samples representative of different fill ages (0 to 13 years) were used to perform drained triaxial compression tests. The field and laboratory study showed that the waste body in the landfill can be sub-divided into several strata corresponding to different ranges of fill age. Each of the waste strata has individual composition and shear strength characteristics. The triaxial test results showed that the MSW samples exhibited a strain-hardening and contractive behavior. As the fill age of the waste increased from 1.7 years to 11 years, the cohesion mobilized at a strain level of 10% was found to decrease from 23.3 kPa to 0 kPa, and the mobilized friction angle at the same strain level increasing from 9.9° to 26°. For a confinement stress level greater than 50 kPa, the shear strength of the recently-placed MSW seemed to be lower than that of the older MSW. This behavior was consistent with the cone penetration test results. The field measurement of pore pressures revealed a perched leachate mound above an intermediate cover of soils and a substantial leachate mound near the bottom of the landfill. The measurements of shear strength properties and pore pressures were utilized to assess the slope stability of the Suzhou landfill.  相似文献
