Acoustic solitons are investigated in electron-positron plasmas containing equal hot and cool components of both species. The hot components are isothermal Boltzmann distributed, the cool constituents are modelled by adiabatic fluids. The equations are integrated exactly in terms of a Sagdeev potential. Solitons are shown to be possible, but no double layers, due to the symmetry in the model. Bearing in mind the constraints imposed by the Boltzmann assumption, small amplitude solitons only are found. Such findings are relevant for different kinds of astrophysical plasmas, as well as for other types of similar acoustic solitons.  相似文献

Network magnetic fields, ephemeral active regions, and intranetwork magnetic fields are illustrated and discussed in several contexts. First, they are presented in relation to the appearance and disappearance of magnetic flux. Second, their properties in common with all solar magnetic features are discussed. Third, their distinguishing characteristics are emphasized. Lastly, their interactions are illustrated.Network magnetic fields are no longer considered to be just the aged remnants of active regions. The network is the dynamic product of the merging and cancelling of intranetwork fields, ephemeral regions, and the remnants of active regions. Intranetwork fields are magnetic fields of mixed polarity that appear to originate continuously from localized source sites in between the network. The intranetwork magnetic fields are characterized by flow of successive fragments in approximately radial patterns away from their apparent source sites and by the relative weakness of their magnetic fields. Ephemeral active regions are small, new bipoles that grow as a unit or a succession of bipolar units and whose poles move in opposite directions from their apparent site of origin. Dust particles in the solar system (e.g. atmospheric hazes, cometary or interplanetary dust, regolith) are likely to be irregular aggregates whose light scattering properties (phase functions of polarization) are drastically different from those of Mie spheres. However, the observation of the light they scatter may provide informations on their physical properties. If the mechanisms which lead to aggregation are invariant with time, the aggregates are likely to be fractal particles made up from individual monomers. Computations, developped in relation with the CODAG experiment, are performed using a Discrete Dipole Approximation, and each monomer is described by one or more dipoles. When the particles are formed from a few monomers made up of numerous dipoles, the polarimetric response of the aggregate is similar to the one of the constituent monomer. When the particles are formed from many monomers made up of individual dipoles, the phase curves are similar to those observed in the solar system. Our calculations suggest that dust particles have a fractal dimension of the order of 2 (Ballistic Cluster-Cluster Aggregation), and that the values of the real and imaginary part of the complex refractive index of the constituent material are high. Those results are in agreement with laboratory measurements on samples representative of astronomical organics and minerals.  相似文献

The interaction of a conducting body moving through the ionosphere with the surrounding plasma is treated numerically. The Poisson and Vlasov equations are solved using computer techniques to give information about the redistribution of charged particles in the wake behind the body and the perturbation of the electric potential sheaths around the body. Three cases of interest are studied: body size less than, equal to, and greater than the Debye length in the surrounding plasma. A range of body potentials and ion Mach numbers are considered which are typical of conditions found in the ionosphere. Wake features, such as ion-free wake lengths and angles of propagation of disturbances in the wakes, are investigated for these conditions. Physical pictures of the mechanisms of wake formation behind a plate and a disc are built up for the three classes of body size, and differences due to geometry or size are explained. The smaller bodies are comparable in size to instrument booms, diagnostic probes, antennae, etc. and the larger bodies approach the dimensions of ionospheric satellites and space probes.  相似文献

We use the random forest to regress the surface effective temperatures of stars in APOGEE from SDSS DR16 and LAMOST DR6. When the NUV-u, u-g, g-r, r-i, i-J, J-H, H-K, K-WISE_4_5 magnitudes are used as machine learning features, the coefficient of determination of regression are 94.91% in APOGEE and 90.46% in LAMOST. The standard deviation of the prediction and pipeline temperatures are 93.89K in APOGEE and 113.10K in LAMOST. When the NUV-J, J-H, H-K, K-WISE_4_5 magnitudes are used as features, the coefficient of determination of regression are 94.37% in APOGEE and 88.89% in LAMOST. The standard deviation is 96.59K in APOGEE and 119.92K in LAMOST. The J-H magnitudes are the most important feature to predict the effective temperatures, and the NUV-J magnitudes are the second important feature. The NUV-J, J-H, H-K, K-WISE_4_5 magnitudes are from the all-sky survey and can be employed widely to regress the effective temperatures of stars.  相似文献

Magnetic fluctuations observed in the magnetosheath and the outer magnetosphere with Ogo-5 during 6 months from November 1968, are analyzed to examine the resonance theory that monochromatic waves excited outside the magnetosphere are transmitted in the compressional mode into the magnetosphere, being transmitted further along the closed field lines in the torsional mode and are finally observed as long-period pcs on the Earth's surface. Ten observed results on the wave characteristics of the fluctuations including variance, spectrum, relation to the plasma stream, integrated power, longitudinal dependence are obtained and summarized. The fluctuations in the magnetosheath are found to be dominantly Alfvénic. Several pieces of evidence to support the resonance theory are found.  相似文献

Currently we are aware of only one biosphere in the entire Universe, our own. Various ongoing observational programmes are, however, attempting to locate more. These searches for extraterrestrial life are among the most challenging and interesting tasks of modern science. The Universe is immense, and even the distances to the nearest stars are beyond our present capabilities to traverse, so that search strategies must be thought through carefully in terms of how, where and what to search for. Life is undoubtedly more likely in some environments than others, and environmental criteria must be fulfilled for life to arise, survive, evolve and thrive. As search resources are limited we should concentrate our search on habitable zones that are suitable for the kind of life we can most easily recognise, in other words, searches should be guided by our own biosphere.  相似文献

Perpendicularly propagating electromagnetic waves in magnetized, multispecies, self-gravitating dusty plasmas are investigated in terms of their wave dispersion properties as well as with respect to their susceptibility to gravitational collapse. In particular, waves on the ordinary as well as extraordinary mode branches are considered. Within the one-dimensional propagation model employed, all modes except the ordinary mode produce density perturbations that can be unstable to gravitational collapse. The wavelengths that are unstable are comparable to the well-known Jeans length for a neutral gas/dust, but there are interesting modifications due to the presence of a magnetic field and charged particles. Furthermore, the effects of the gravitational coupling of a multicomponent plasma to a neutral dust are discussed. 最近的多普勒观测表明恒星HD 12661周围存在两颗中等偏心率轨道上运行的行星,内行星的最小质量为2.3木星质量,轨道周期为263.6天;外行星的最小质量为1.57木星质量,轨道周期为1444.5天.该系统的稳定性要求两颗行星处在平运动轨道共振.用数值方法研究了该系统形成初期在恒星气体盘作用下的轨道迁移与稳定性,计算了行星在迁移中被平运动共振俘获的概率.发现这两颗行星目前很可能正处在11:2平运动共振边缘,且运动是混沌的,从而澄清了关于系统目前构形的不同说法,并且很可能在系统形成后行星迁移到目前构形时,气体盘几乎消失了.  相似文献

Abstract— The occurrence of shock metamorphosed quartz is the most common petrographic criterion for the identification of terrestrial impact structures and lithologies. Its utility is due to its almost ubiquitous occurrence in terrestrial rocks, its overall stability and the fact that a variety of shock metamorphic effects, occurring over a range of shock pressures, have been well documented. These shock effects have been generally duplicated in shock recovery experiments and, thus, serve as shock pressure barometers. After reviewing the general character of shock effects in quartz, the differences between experimental and natural shock events and their potential effects on the shock metamorphism of quartz are explored. The short pulse lengths in experiments may account for the difficulty in synthesizing the high-pressure polymorphs, coesite and stishovite, compared to natural occurrences. In addition, post-shock thermal effects are possible in natural events, which can affect shock altered physical properties, such as refractive index, and cause annealing of shock damage and recrystallization. The orientations of planar microstructures, however, are unaffected by post-impact thermal events, except if quartz is recrystallized, and provide the best natural shock barometer in terms of utility and occurrence. The nature of planar microstructures, particularly planar deformation features (PDFs), is discussed in some detail and a scheme of variations in orientations with shock pressure is provided. The effect of post-impact events on PDFs is generally limited to annealing of the original glass lamellae to produce decorated PDFs, resulting from the exsolution of dissolved water during recrystallization. Basal (0001) PDFs differ from other PDF orientations in that they are multiple, mechanical Brazil twins, which are difficult to detect if not partially annealed and decorated. The occurrence and significance of shock metamorphosed quartz and its other phases (namely, coesite, stishovite, diaplectic glass and lechatelierite) are discussed for terrestrial impact structures in both crystalline (non-porous) and sedimentary (porous) targets. The bulk of past studies have dealt with crystalline targets, where variations in recorded shock pressure in quartz have been used to constrain aspects of the cratering process and to estimate crater dimensions at eroded structures. In sedimentary targets, the effect of pore space results in an inhomogeneous distribution in recorded shock pressure and temperature, which requires a different classification scheme for the variation of recorded shock compared to that in crystalline targets. This is discussed, along with examples of variations in the relative abundances of planar microstructures and their orientations, which are attributed to textural variations in sedimentary target rocks. Examples of the shock metamorphism of quartz in distal ejecta, such as at the K/T boundary, and from nuclear explosions are illustrated and are equivalent to that of known impact structures, except with respect to characteristics that are due to long-term, post-shock thermal effects. Finally, the differences between the deformation and phase transformation of quartz by shock and by endogenic, tectonic and volcanic processes are discussed. We confirm previous conclusions that they are completely dissimilar in character, due to the vastly different physical conditions and time scales typical for shock events, compared to tectonic and volcanic events. Well-characterized and documented shock effects in quartz are unequivocal indicators of impact in the natural environment.  相似文献

HiRISE images of the lower member of the Medusae Fossae Formation (MFF) were used to identify characteristics of two specific landforms that are well expressed in this particular geologic unit; yardangs and sinuous ridges. Yardangs are wind-eroded ridges that are usually confined to arid environments where the bedrock materials can be easily eroded by windblown sand. Yardangs are common in the lower member of MFF, where many individual yardangs show evidence of a caprock unit overlying a more friable unit, most consistent with an ignimbrite origin for these MFF deposits. Heights of the yardangs in the lower member materials are generally less than a few tens of meters, in contrast to yardangs in the thicker middle member MFF materials to the east of the study area. The yardangs may form in materials comprised of discrete depositional units, and there is good evidence that at least a dozen such depositional events contributed to the emplacement of the lower member of MFF. The lower member yardang heights indicate aeolian erosion has removed at least 19,000 km3 of lower member MFF materials. Sinuous ridges are elongate, positive-relief landforms that have been attributed to a variety of possible fluvial flow processes on Mars. Sinuous ridges are very common within exposures of the lower member of MFF. Multiple ridge types are present, but all forms seen at HiRISE scale are most consistent with some form of aqueous channel flow rather than other possible origins. The results from this initial examination of HiRISE images indicate the potential utility of comparing yardangs and sinuous ridges in the lower member to other members of MFF, although it remains to be determined if sinuous ridges are abundant in the younger MFF members.  相似文献

It is argued that typical W UMa-type stars are old, advanced evolutionary objects, similar to Algols, in the sense that they are past mass exchange resulting in a mass ratio inversion. Their secondaries are oversized due to depletion of hydrogen, and in many cases they possess small helium cores. An alternative evolutionary scenario leading to such a configuration is presented. Differences between the evolution of binaries with the initial mass ratio far and close to unity are discussed.  相似文献

Expressions are given for the first order node-to-node perturbations in the orbital elements of a satellite due to an arbitrary zonal harmonic of the geopotential. Accurate and efficient procedures for computing such perturbations are necessary for orbit determination methods which will fully utilize the highly accurate observations now available.Comparison with a double precision numerical integration is made for an intermediate altitude satellite, TELSTAR I. (Second order perturbations due to the second harmonic, derived elsewhere, are included, as are the first order perturbations due to the zonals through fourteenth order.) Discrepancies in semi-major axis after 1 period are of the order of 0.1 mm. Discrepancies in timing are of the order of 0.03 msec. Determination of orbital parameters from observations is formally a nonlinear inverse problem for solving which evidently nonlinear methods are required. Meanwhile, an accompanying stage in solving the inverse problem is the evaluation of parametric accuracy to which, however, linear methods are conventionally applied. This is quite justified if parametric errors caused by observation errors are rather small, otherwise this is not at all since the nonlinearity of the inverse problem can be considerable to influence on the evaluations of parametric accuracy especially when the observations are very few. With the advent of quick-operating and multiprocessor computers, recently one tends to employ statistic simulation of virtual parameter values for investigating uncertainties in orbits determined from observations. In the paper are just discussed the methods designed specially for nonlinear statistic simulation of virtual parameter values. Their efficiency is investigated in application to estimating uncertainties in the orbit of Jovian satellite S/2003 J04 whose orbital parameters are ill-determined owing to scanty available observations. Indices of nonlinearity are introduced for making decision in the choice between linear and nonlinear methods.  相似文献

In the framework of the planar restricted three-body problem we study a considerable number of resonances associated to the basic dynamical features of Kuiper belt and located between 30 and 48 a.u. Our study is based on the computation of resonant periodic orbits and their stability. Stable periodic orbits are surrounded by regular librations in phase space and in such domains the capture of trans-Neptunian object is possible. All the periodic orbits found are symmetric and there is an indication of the existence of asymmetric ones only in a few cases. In the present work first, second and third order resonances are under consideration. In the planar circular case we found that most of the periodic orbits are stable. The families of periodic orbits are temporarily interrupted by collisions but they continue up to relatively large values of the Jacobi constant and highly eccentric regular motion exists for all cases. In the elliptic problem and for a particular eccentricity value of the primary bodies, the periodic orbits are isolated. The corresponding families, where they belong to, bifurcate from specific periodic orbits of the circular problem and seem to continue up to the rectilinear problem. Both stable and unstable orbits are obtained for each case. In the elliptic problem, the unstable orbits found are associated with narrow chaotic domains in phase space. The evolution of the orbits, which are located in such chaotic domains, seems to be practically regular and bounded for long time intervals.  相似文献

The environmental properties of a sample of 31 hard X-ray selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) are investigated, from scales of 500 kpc down to 30 kpc, and are compared to a control sample of inactive galaxies. All the AGN lie in the redshift range  0.4 < z < 0.6  . The accretion luminosity density of the Universe peaks close to this redshift range, and the AGN in the sample have X-ray luminosities close to the knee in the hard X-ray luminosity function, making them representative of the population that dominated this important phase of energy conversion.
Using both the spatial clustering amplitude and near-neighbour counts, it is found that the AGN have environments that are indistinguishable from normal, inactive galaxies over the same redshift range and with similar optical properties. Typically, the environments are of subcluster richness, in contrast to similar studies of high- z quasars, which are often found in clusters with comparable richness to the Abell   R ≥ 0  clusters.
It is suggested that minor mergers with low-mass companions are a likely candidate for the mechanism by which these modest luminosity AGN are fuelled.  相似文献

The peaks in the spectra of the accretion disks surrounding massive black holes in quasars are in the far-UV or soft X-ray band, which are usually not observed. However, in the disk corona model, soft photons from the disk are Comptonized to high energy in the hot corona, and the hard X-ray spectra(luminosity and spectral shape) contain information on the incident spectra from the disk. The values of black hole spin parameter a*are inferred from the spectral fitting, which are spread over a large range, ~-0.94 to 0.998. We find that the inclination angles and mass accretion rates are well determined by the spectral fitting, but the results are sensitive to the accuracy of black hole mass estimates. No tight constraints on the black hole spins are achieved, if the uncertainties in black hole mass measurements are a factor of four,which are typical for the single-epoch reverberation mapping method. Recently, the accuracy of black hole mass measurement has been significantly improved to 0.2- 0.4 dex with the velocity resolved reverberation mapping method. The black hole spin can be well constrained if the mass measurement accuracy is50%. In the accretion disk corona scenario, a fraction of power dissipated in the disk is transported into the corona, and therefore the accretion disk is thinner than a bare disk for the same mass accretion rate,because the radiation pressure in the disk is reduced. We find that the thin disk approximation, H/R0.1,is still valid if 0.3 m 0.5, provided half of the dissipated power is radiated in the corona above the disk.  相似文献
