Reconstruction of variations in the Caspian Sea level is proposed based on the results of investigations of deposits in the Agrakhan sand bar and bays (or former bays) of the eastern sea coast. The history of sedimentation in particular regions is reconstructed by the radiocarbon dating. Generalized data on the age of deposits are used to construct the most likely temporal course of variations in the sea level within the historic epoch. 相似文献

A procedure is proposed for calculating extreme characteristics of the level of a sea with allowance for positive and negative setups. Analysis is made of past storm events in the Northern Caspian Sea that have caused strong setups. Sixty-three storm weather patterns are chosen from a period of 45 years. Time ring synoptic maps are used to digitize the atmospheric pressure fields and calculate the field of its gradient and the wind near water surface. Based on these data, the sea level values and currents are calculated through two- and three-dimensional hydrodynamic models. A probabilistic model along with computer-aided data treatment procedures are used to calculate the fields of extreme characteristics of the sea level at the Lagan gage with the occurrence of once per N years at the average Caspian Sea level of 27 m below SL. 相似文献

The tritium content of the surface water on the south shore of the Caspian Sea was determined in samples taken in two- to three-month intervals for the period of time from 1960 to 1970. Tritium concentrations following the massive H-bomb testing in 1962 and 1963 were particularly high in this water, much higher than in the surface waters of the open oceans. The data are interesting in connection with the tritium inventories on the continents and with the persistence of inert chemical pollutants in the surface layers of water masses. 相似文献

We examine the issue of sustained measurements of sea level in the coastal zone, first by summarizing the long-term observations from tide gauges, then showing how those are now complemented by improved satellite altimetry products in the coastal ocean. We present some of the progresses in coastal altimetry, both from dedicated reprocessing of the radar waveforms and from the development of improved corrections for the atmospheric effects. This trend towards better altimetric data at the coast comes also from technological innovations such as Ka-band altimetry and SAR altimetry, and we discuss the advantages deriving from the AltiKa Ka-band altimeter and the SIRAL altimeter on CryoSat-2 that can be operated in SAR mode. A case study along the UK coast demonstrates the good agreement between coastal altimetry and tide gauge observations, with root mean square differences as low as 4 cm at many stations, allowing the characterization of the annual cycle of sea level along the UK coasts. Finally, we examine the evolution of the sea level trend from the open to the coastal ocean along the western coast of Africa, comparing standard and coastally improved products. Different products give different sea level trend profiles, so the recommendation is that additional efforts are needed to study sea level trends in the coastal zone from past and present satellite altimeters. Further improvements are expected from more refined processing and screening of data, but in particular from the constant improvements in the geophysical corrections. 相似文献

The presented results have been obtained in a study of the concentrations and composition of aliphatic and polycyclic hydrocarbons in bottom sediments of Volga delta branches and in its shallow zone (2009–2010), as well as the Caspian Sea proper (2010–2013). Oil hydrocarbon pollution has been found to manifest itself mostly in Volga delta branches, which, despite the low concentrations (up to 54.5 μg/g), showed higher hydrocarbons share in Corg (up to 33.8%), while the composition of alkanes suggested their oil genesis. The geochemical barrier the Volga–the Caspian Sea prevents anthropogenic hydrocarbons from entering the open parts of the Caspian. Bottom sediments in the shallow zone of the Northern Caspian, represented by coarse-grained material, are now polluted by oil hydrocarbons to a lesser extent compared with other areas. The highest concentrations of aliphatic hydrocarbons (up to 178 μg/g) were recorded in the deepsea bottom sediments of Derbent Depression and in depressions of the Middle and Southern Caspian. These areas show a higher concentration of Corg (up to 9.884%) and a low concentration of hydrocarbons in Corg (up to 0.16%), while odd high-molecular homologues (n-C25–C31) dominate in the composition of alkanes. 相似文献

A stochastic model of level variations in a drainless water body is considered. The model accounts for the nonstationary character of sea level under stationary climate. It is shown that in the case of the Caspian Sea, the range from ?29 to ?26 m BS corresponds to a relative stability of the level because of the greatest gentleness of the shores and shelf slope in combination with the maximal water outflow into Kara-Bogaz-Gol Gulf. 相似文献

Caspian Sea level variations, which have several equilibrium states, are studied by the methods of the theory of nonlinear dynamic systems. Normal monthly values of sea level according to data collected at Makhachkala gauge from 1900 to 2000 are considered. The diagnostic characteristics of dynamic chaos are used to show that sea level variations have some properties of series with chaotic behavior. A model of level variations in the Caspian Sea, comprising a system of water balance equations for the sea basin, the dynamics of river runoff, and water balance of the sea itself, is proposed. Equation of a nonlinear oscillator is derived and shown to have solutions with chaotic regimes at some combinations of parameters. 相似文献

Data on the dynamics of bottom currents along the western coast of the Middle Caspian are given. The contributions of the mean kinetic energy of currents and the energy of perturbation to the total energy of currents are shown at different space and time scales of variations and for different seasons of the year. This investigation represents the first extensive study of the spatial distribution and sources of aliphatic (n-alkanes and unresolved complex mixture of fossil hydrocarbons) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in coastal sediments from the Caspian Sea. PAH concentrations, n-alkanes and biomarker profiles all suggested that there was limited petrogenic contamination in the shallow North Caspian Sea sediments, which are coarse with a low total organic carbon content. In contrast, moderate to high petrogenic contamination was found in the South Caspian Sea, in particular in the offshore oil fields near Baku, Azerbaijan. Contaminant patterns indicated that the PAHs were mainly from fossil sources, with higher contributions of pyrolytic only near industrialized and urban areas. A high contribution of perylene, a geochemically derived PAH, to the total PAHs was found in the west and south at sites influenced by the Kura, Safid Rud, Terek, Sulak and Samur Rivers. 相似文献

The evolution of the eastern part of the Terek mouth area in the period of the current rise of the Caspian Sea level has been traced by aerial and space photographs made at different times. With the help of computer processing of the photographs, a set of maps have been compiled including maps of the eastern part of the Terek delta (including the former Agrakhan Bay and the Agrakhan Peninsula with a new delta) in 1978, 1991, and 1997, as well as a map of its dynamics in the period of its most radical changes (1978–1991). Correlation between the Volga runoff, the Caspian Sea level increments (CSL), and the amount of precipitation is considered. The variables involved are averaged over seasons, periods, and the year. Variations in the obtained correlations within the 20th century are analyzed. A method is proposed for determining the optimal time interval, within which precipitation is to be taken into account in predicting the Volga runoff and CSL. Seasonal anomalies in the precipitation and annual Volga runoff are analyzed for low-water and high-water periods. Linear trends of seasonal sums of precipitation for the period from 1891 to 1998 and in individual parts of this period are evaluated. 相似文献
