Experimental studies concerning the dissolved air flotation (DAF) of fine (dp < 100 μm) quartz particles, using two different flotation cells (setups), are presented. Pure and well characterised quartz samples were treated with a commercial amine as collector prior to flotation and bubbles were characterised by the LTM-BSizer technique. Bubble size distribution showed 71% (by volume) and 94% (by number) of the bubbles having sizes (db) lower than 100 μm (i.e. microbubbles). The Sauter and arithmetic mean diameters were 79 μm and 56 μm, respectively, for the bubbles generated at 300 kPa (gauge) saturation pressure (after 30 minute saturation time). Quartz particle size distribution (obtained by laser diffraction) showed a volume-moment diameter of 13 μm. The Rosin–Rammler–Bennett, Gates–Gaudin–Schumann and log-normal distribution functions were well fitted (R2 > 0.96) to the bubble size distribution and quartz particle size distribution data. Values of total quartz recovery ranging from 6% to 53% (by mass) were obtained for the DAF experiments under different collector concentrations (up to 2 mg g− 1), with an optimal collector concentration found at 1 mg g− 1. These results are significant considering that 27% (by volume) of the quartz particles are ultrafine (dp < 5 μm), demonstrating the widely-known efficiency of DAF to remove small particles when applied in the field of water and wastewater treatment. The true flotation behaviour, as a function of particle diameter (dp), exhibits a local minimum when particles are approximately 3–5 μm in size. The results contribute to the discussion in the literature about the existence of such a minimum, which is generally interpreted as a change in the mechanism of particle collection from convection (collision) to diffusion at lower particle sizes. 相似文献

Column flotation, which is a very effective process in mineral processing especially for easily floatable minerals, is one of the most important new developments to emerge in mineral processing technology in the last years. In this study, the flotation behavior of talc products having different particle shapes produced by different grinding mills (ball and rod mill) was determined by using column flotation process. Shape characteristics of the particles were investigated by the two dimensional measuring technique based on the particle projections obtained from the SEM microphotographs using a COREL Draw 10.0 program. The results showed that particles possessing higher elongation and flatness properties were recovered better during column flotation, whilst roundness and relative width had a negative effect on the flotation behavior of the talc mineral studied. Consequently, as the shape of the particles produced by the mill deviated from the ideal sphere, their floatability was increased. 相似文献

The change in collectorless flotation of sphalerite with pH and Cu(II) concentration was correlated with the type and proportion of species present on the sphalerite surface. The solution and surface species were determined using a combination of analytical techniques including zeta potential measurement and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. An optimum copper concentration for maximum sphalerite flotation was identified, beyond which flotation decreased. This decrease in flotation coincided with the precipitation of copper hydroxide in neutral to mildly alkaline pH conditions. The hydrophobic polysulfide and hydrophilic copper hydroxide species were the main surface species influencing sphalerite flotation. 相似文献

A method for the design of flotation circuits is presented. The design problem is represented by several superstructures. The first superstructure represents separation tasks (STS), which include: feed processing superstructure (FPS), concentrate processing superstructure (CPS), and tail processing superstructure (TPS). The FPS commonly uses a single stage, i.e., rougher. The CPS represents the circuit needed to carry out the cleaner task, and the TPS represents the circuit needed to carry out the scavenger task. These superstructures are flow networks between several separation stages. In each separation stage two kinds of cells are allowed, bank and column. In several streams in the CPS and TPS, the incorporation of regrind mills is also included. 相似文献

A laboratory flotation column using Venturi aerators and a vacuum system to remove froth was used to investigate the contribution of gas flow, pulp flow, cell volume and froth retention time on the ink removal efficiency and on cellulose fibres and mineral fillers loss. The increase in the gas flow from 4 to 8 L/min gave a general rise of particle transport from the pulp slurry to the froth with an ensuing strong increase in ink removal, from 75% to 85%, and water and total loss, from 10% to 40% and 15% to 30%, respectively. Whereas, the increase of the cell volume from 14 to 24 L improved ink removal from 72% to 80% without considerably affecting flotation loss. The rise of the froth retention time in the flotation cell from 5 to 20 s before removal gave a general decrease in the flotation loss from 20% to 11% without a corresponding decrease in ink removal. This trend was interpreted as reflecting poor ink drainage through the froth. The increase of both pulp and froth retention time in the flotation cell appeared as the most favourable way to improve ink flotation selectivity. A mathematical model, describing particle removal during flotation in terms of true flotation, entrainment and drainage, was proposed and used to fit experimental data. 相似文献

The separation efficiency and selectivity of flotation are directly proportional to recoveries of the mineral species in the feed due to true flotation and entrainment. In this study, effects of the hydrodynamic conditions on true flotation and entrainment were investigated by using a fractional factorial experimental design. A method previously described in the literature was applied to determine the contributions of true flotation and entrainment in flotation of a complex sulphide ore. In order to apply the method, the kinetic flotation tests were conducted under various hydrodynamic conditions defined by some physical variables. Some of these tests were conducted in the presence and absence of a collector to evaluate the self-induced floatability. The selectivity index of the mineral species for entrainment was seen to be suitable evaluation of the non-selectivity and efficiency of the entrainment. Furthermore, the results of the size-by-size analysis of the froth products indicated that the presence of the self-induced hydrophobic particles in the feed is as important as the presence of very fine particles for accurate estimation of true flotation and entrainment in flotation of a complex sulphide ore. In addition, the estimated results for entrainment in flotation of the complex sulphide ore can be misleading. Therefore, a new approach would be necessary to determine the contributions of true flotation and entrainment in flotation of a complex sulphide ore. 相似文献

本文以油酸钠作为捕收剂,研究了磷酸氢二钠、柠檬酸和硅酸钠等抑制剂对粉石英与红柱石浮选分离效果的影响.结果表明,磷酸氢二钠是红柱石与粉石英浮选分离的一种优良的抑制剂;在其最佳浓度0.47×10-2 mol /L,浮选液pH值为8.5时,粉石英与红柱石浮选回收率差高达47.86%.红外光谱及Zeta电位分析结果表明,油酸钠对红柱石兼有物理和化学吸附作用,对粉石英仅有物理吸附作用,因而对红柱石有更强的捕收能力;磷酸氢二钠对粉石英表面起解吸作用,能有效抑制粉石英起浮,从而实现粉石英与红柱石的分离. 相似文献

Changes in precipitate mineralogy, morphology, and major and trace element concentrations and associations throughout 5 coal mine drainage (CMD) remediation systems treating discharges of varying chemistries were investigated in order to determine the factors that influence the characteristics of precipitates formed in passive systems. The 5 passive treatment systems sampled in this study are located in the bituminous coal fields of western Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, and treat discharges from Pennsylvanian age coals. The precipitates are dominantly (>70%) goethite. Crystallinity varies throughout an individual system, and lower crystallinity is associated with enhanced sorption of trace metals. Degree of crystallinity (and subsequently morphology and trace metal associations) is a function of the treatment system and how rapidly Fe(II) is oxidized, forms precipitates, aggregates and settles. Precipitates formed earlier in the passive treatment systems tend to have the highest crystallinity and the lowest concentrations of trace metal cations. High surface area and cation vacancies within the goethite structure enable sorption and incorporation of metals from coal mine drainage-polluted waters. Sorption affinities follow the order of Zn > Co ≈ Ni > Mn. Cobalt and Ni are preferentially sorbed to Mn oxide phases when these phases are present. As pH increases in the individual CMD treatment systems toward the pHpzc of goethite, As sorption decreases and transition metal (Co, Mn, Ni and Zn) sorption increases. Sulfate, Na and Fe(II) concentrations may all influence the sorption of trace metals to the Fe hydroxide surface. Results of this study have implications not only for solids disposal and resource recovery but also for the optimization of passive CMD treatment systems. 相似文献

Potato starch and dextrins resulting from thermolysis of potato starch in the absence of reagents and presence of
-amino acids are promising depressants for separation of lead and copper minerals present in the Polish industrial copper concentrates. The polysaccharides were used for differential xanthate flotation of the final industrial concentrates produced by flotation with sulfhydryl collectors in the absence of depressants. The polysaccharides depressed galena and provided froth concentrate rich in chalcocite and other copper minerals as well as cell product containing lead minerals. The best results of separation were obtained in the presence of plain dextrin prepared by a thermal degradation of potato starch. The industrial concentrate containing 18.5% Cu and 5.5% Pb was divided into a froth product containing 38.1% Cu with 77% recovery of copper and a cell product assaying 7.3% Pb with 83% recovery of lead. It was accomplished using 2500 g/t of dextrin, 50g/t of potassium ethyl xanthate, and 50 g/t of frother (α-terpineol). The pH of flotation was 8.0–8.2. 相似文献

Fine hydrophilic particles are known to be entrained with water in flotation of many ores. Flocculation of the hydrophilic particles by polymer depressants could potentially reduce the mechanical entrainment of these particles. This paper reports testwork completed on fine particles of several solids, iron oxide, hydroxyapatite and sphalerite, as well as on a relatively coarse quartz sample (− 75 + 38 μm). Dodecylamine was used as a collector for quartz, and several dispersants and polymer depressants, including sodium silicate, sodium metaphosphate, zinc sulfate, cornstarch, corn dextrin and carboxymethyl celluloses (with molecular weights of both 700,000 and 80,000) were used as flotation modifiers. The major part of the testwork involved flotation tests in a 200 mL flotation column. It was observed that flocculation of the fine hydrophilic particles significantly reduced their mechanical entrainment, while dispersion severely aggravated it. Thus, in the flotation separation of synthetic mixtures of the − 75 + 38 μm quartz and fine (reagent grade) iron oxide or hydroxyapatite, polymer depressants that caused flocculation performed better than those that did not cause flocculation. 相似文献

Coal flotation studies were carried out in ultrasonically assisted flotation cells. Representative hard coal slime samples from Prosper-Haniel Coal Preparation Plant located in Bottrop, Ruhr Region of Germany were used for this purpose. A Wemco type flotation cell was fitted with transducers and tests were carried out at variable frequency and power. The reagent for coal flotation was Ekofol-440 with variable dosages during conventional and ultrasonic flotation experiments. The results showed that ultrasonic coal flotation yields more combustible recovery and lower ash values in concentrates than conventional flotation by using similar reagent dosages. These results are explained on the basis of efficient surface cleaning of the coal particles. 相似文献

Monitoring and control of a flotation circuit is mainly based on the information gained by assaying the process slurry lines. In flotation plants, usually an X-ray fluorescence analyzer is used to obtain the on-line assays. This article introduces the visual and near-infrared reflectance spectroscopic analysis of the process slurries as a supplementary method which complements the on-line assay information available from an X-ray fluorescence analyzer. It is shown that the spectral information can be used to accurately predict the element contents in the slurry in between successive XRF analyses. Since the spectral measurements can be taken with high frequency as opposed to the sparse X-ray fluorescence analysis, a practically continuous on-line estimate of the slurry contents is reached. These estimates can be used in the plant control to improve the overall performance of the circuits and to yield also economical savings. Additionally, the frequent monitoring of the grades can provide means to eliminate rapid disturbances in the circuits, thus improving the stability of the process. 相似文献

The ability of O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC), O-isobutyl-N-ethoxycarbonyl thionocarbamate (IBECTC) and butyl ethoxycarbonyl thiourea (BECTU) collectors to increase the flotation of the sulphide minerals, chalcopyrite, galena and pyrite, has been studied. For each collector, the flotation characteristics of these minerals, flotation rate constant and flotation recovery maximum, have been calculated from the flotation data and compared as a function of pH and collector concentration. Overall, the flotation performance of these collectors is stronger for chalcopyrite than for galena and pyrite. Flotation increases with collector concentration and decreasing pH values. For chalcopyrite, the collector performances of BECTU are slightly better than those of IPETC but far superior to those of IBECTC, especially at high pH values or at low collector concentrations. The flotation performance of these collectors has been shown to be in good agreement with the amount of collector adsorbed at the mineral surface. The affinity of BECTU for the various minerals has been calculated using a multilayer adsorption model. 相似文献

Laboratory experiments were carried out to acquire more insight and understanding of the phenomena associated with the in-situ arsenic remediation. Visualization techniques are the most informative for the detection of Fe(II) while flowing in soils. Green Rust (GR) was considered as representative of in-situ iron precipitates. In a visualization flat cell, the change in color of GR to orange, due to oxidation, was monitored by a digital camera and the images were analyzed giving the spatial and temporal distribution of Fe(II). Moreover, both oxygen and pH changes in time were recorded in two sections along the flow direction in the cell. The measured and calculated concentration profiles were compared and the actual reaction rates were predicted. The reaction rate constants measured in this study, under flowing conditions, are in a good agreement with the values obtained from batch experiments reported in the literature. 相似文献

Industrial processes involving multi-phase flows such as flotation require understanding of the relationships between bubbles, solid particles and the flow. Modern experimental tools are employed in this effort to measure with great accuracy the basic features of the motion of all three phases in turbulent flow. We employed a unique Digital Particle Image Velocimeter (DPIV) that can record with great accuracy and kHz temporal resolution, velocity vectors of all three phases, namely the fluid, the solid particles and the air bubbles. The interaction of these three phases was studied in homogeneous isotropic turbulence generated by cylindrical grids. Particles and bubbles were released into the turbulence and the motions of the three phases were monitored. The experimental results obtained in the present work were compared with the predictions of the models published in the literature. 相似文献

This article extends the earlier work (Haavisto et al. 2008. Optical spectrum based measurement of flotation slurry contents. Int. J. Miner. Process. 88 (3–4), 80–88), where visible and near-infrared (VNIR) reflectance spectroscopy was used together with an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to improve the assaying of zinc flotation concentrate. Especially the sampling interval of the assay could be drastically reduced by the presented approach. In this study, a multichannel VNIR spectrum analyzer is utilized to measure the spectrum of the seven most important slurry lines in copper and zinc flotation circuits. Recursive data-based modeling is applied to the VNIR spectrum data and XRF assays to calculate and adaptively maintain the calibration model. The accuracy of the VNIR assays is evaluated in all the lines, and the benefits of the obtained high frequency assays in detecting oscillations and sudden grade changes are demonstrated. 相似文献

A constrained model predictive control (MPC) strategy is proposed to deal with the problem of optimizing flotation column operation using secondary variables. Froth depth, collection zone gas hold-up and bias rate are selected as secondary variables to be controlled whereas tailing, wash-water and gas flow rate are used as manipulated variables. The control problem was formulated in order to minimize the tracking error of the gas hold-up and bias rate by maintaining gas flow rate, wash-water flow rate and bias rate within their operational limits. In particular, a strategy was conceived to optimize the column flotation process based on establishing an unreachable high set point for the gas hold-up (which is equivalent to maximizing the bubble surface area available for particle collection at a given flotation reagent dosage and thus recovery), while simultaneously satisfying operational constraints (such as ensuring a positive bias rate to prevent gangue entrainment and therefore concentrate grade deterioration). Several other operational constraints on wash-water, gas rate, gas hold-up and bias rate were considered, their use being justified from a processing point of view. Since this study deals with the hydrodynamic characteristics of flotation columns, a pilot flotation column working with a two-phase system is sufficient to demonstrate the advantages of using predictive control for this process optimization. 相似文献

A fully automated semi-commercial flotation column incorporating state of the art instruments was designed to study the amenability of flotation column for the beneficiation of different minerals. In the present study, beneficiation of sillimanite was investigated by installing the flotation column in the flotation circuit of Orissa Sands Complex, Indian Rare Earths Limited, Chatrapur, Orissa. The effect of process parameters on sillimanite grade and recovery was investigated. At optimum conditions, the flotation column was operated continuously with a feed rate of one ton per hour and demonstrated the efficiency of the technology for the beneficiation of sillimanite. The results show that a concentrate assaying 96% sillimanite at 90% recovery can be obtained in a single column flotation stage. 相似文献
