Results are presented from CCD BVRI observations of comparison stars in the neighborhoods of 22 galaxies with active nuclei having right ascensions ranging from 0 to 12 hours, of which 19 are Seyfert galaxies. The observed stars have magnitudes ranging from V=11 to V=17. For stars brighter than V=14 the typical photometic error is 0.01m. The B, V, Rc, and Ic magnitudes of most of these stars were not known previously. 14′×14′ finding charts are included. Observations with a matrix photometer are reported. The stellar magnitudes in the BVRcIc bands are estimated for 80 comparison stars in the neighborhoods of 10 galaxies with active nuclei: 2 Seyfert galaxies, 4 quasars, and 4 BL Lac objects. The stellar magnitudes of the observed stars range from 11 to 19m.5. For stars with magnitudes of 14–15m the typical photometric errors are 0m.011, 0m.008, 0m.006, and 0m.007 in the B, V, R, and I bands, respectively. The BVRI magnitudes for most of these stars were not known previously. 14′ × 14′ finding charts for these stars are included. A study of the structure and kinematics of the Galaxy from Tautenburg Schmidt plates taken towards the Galactic centre (l = 17.0°, b = +0.8°) is presented. Proper motions and B, V magnitudes were determined for about 36 500 stars up to the limiting magnitude V = 16m.8 in a field of 8.95 square degrees. Proper motion accuracy of about 3 mas/year has been obtained for stars brighter than V = 15m. The rms errors of stellar magnitudes and (B–V) colours is about 0.1 mag. The majority of field stars in the survey are main sequence stars and red giants of the disk. They belong to the Local or Sagittarius-Carina arms, or they are located between these spiral arms. Comparing the modelled and observed distributions of magnitudes and colours, we specified the interstellar extinction determined in the preceding study of open clusters in this field. The luminosity function towards the Galactic centre was determined for stars with absolute magnitudes from -4m.35 to +9m. Kinematical and spatial distribution parameters up to 4 kpc from the Sun were obtained as a function of galactocentric distance.  相似文献

A catalogue of photoelectric stellar magnitudes and colours in the UBVR Johnson system in 47 sky areas with galaxies near the Main Galactic Meridian is presented. The catalogue includes 1141 stars within the V magnitude interval 4m.5–15m.5. The rms errors are ±0.014, ±0.026, ±0.012, ±0.016 mag for stellar magnitudes V and colours (U – B),(B – V),(V – R), respectively. In the open cluster NGC 752, 89 stars are observed in the Vilnius seven-colour photometric system, including probable members fainter than observed hitherto. Spectral classification of observed stars are made and individual reddening values are determined. The mean reddening of the cluster stars is equivalentE(B - V) = 0 . m 025. By fitting on colour index-magnitude diagrams the cluster Main Sequence with the Hyades one the distance modulus (m - M)0 = 8 . m 15 ± 0 . m 15 is found. For 11 red giant members of the cluster absolute magnitudes are derived and compared with ones of the standard calibration. It is obtained that the cluster giants are in mean 0 . m 6 fainter than giants of corresponding spectral class in the solar vicinity.  相似文献

The low-dispersion spectra of the First Byurakan Survey and the red and blue images of the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey have been used to identify optically 100 infrared sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalog. The work was carried out over the region 3h 50m ≤ α ≤ 7h 40m and +69° ≤ δ −73° with an area of 75 square degrees. The optical coordinates, their deviations from the infrared coordinates, V magnitudes, color indices, preliminary classes for all the objects, and a number of remarks on interesting objects are presented. Three objects were found to be quasars, 36 are galaxies (including Seyferts and an interacting pair), 5 are faint planetary nebulae, 9 are carbon stars, and 47 are stars of late M subclasses. The absolute proper motions of about 275 million stars from the Kharkov XPM catalog have been obtained by comparing their positions in the 2MASS and USNO-A2.0 catalogs with an epoch difference of about 45 yr for northern-hemisphere stars and about 17 yr for southern-hemisphere stars. The zero point of the system of absolute proper motions has been determined using 1.45 million galaxies. The equatorial components of the residual rotation vector of the ICRS/UCAC2 coordinate system relative to the system of extragalactic sources have been determined by comparing the XPM and UCAC2 stellar proper motions: ω x,y,z = (−0.06, 0.17, −0.84) ± (0.15, 0.14, 0.14) mas yr−1. These parameters have been calculated using about 1 million faintest UCAC2 stars with magnitudes R UCAC2 > 16 m and J > 14 m . 7, for which the color and magnitude equation effects are negligible.  相似文献

The 395 late-type spiral galaxies brighter than 15m in r-band are selected from the Data Release 2 of Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the colormagnitude relations of these galaxies and their disks are investigated. It is found that the colors g − r, r − z and g − z of these galaxies and their disks are strongly correlated with the r-band absolute magnitudes, i.e., the more luminous galaxies (or disks) have the redder colors than the less luminous galaxies (or disks). And the correlation of galaxies is stronger than that of their disks.  相似文献

A fifth list of objects from the BIG (Byurakan-IRAS galaxies) sample is given: 89 galaxies identified with 59 point sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalog. The identifications were based on the Digital Sky Survey (DSS), the First Byurakan Survey, blue and red maps from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey, and infrared fluxes at 12, 25, 60, and 100 mm in the region of+65° ≤ δ ≤69δ and 5h10m ≤ α ≤9h 15m with an area of 96 deg2. For the identified galaxies the optical coordinates, their departures from the IR coordinates, and the stellar V magnitudes, morphological types, angular sizes, and position angles were determined. The objects have optical magnitudes in the range of 14m. 1-21m.5 and angular sizes in the range of 2″-47″. The galaxies are mainly spiral in morphology. Compact galaxies and Seyfert candidates, interacting pairs, “mergers,” galaxies with companions and superassociations, groups of galaxies (including compact ones), and others are encountered, which shows the importance of these objects for the study of the relationships among the phenomena of star formation, activity, and interactions. We report observations of 24 stars in the fields of the three Seyfert galaxies MCG +08-23-067, Mrk 817, and Mrk 290. The observations were made with a CCD array photometer in the BVRcIc bands. The V magnitudes of the observed stars ranged from 13.5 and 17.2. For stars of approximate magnitude 15, the typical photometric errors are 0.010, 0.011, 0.008 and 0.011 magnitude in the BVRI bands, respectively. The BVRI magnitudes of all these stars were not known previously. In the field of the galaxy Mrk 290 a star has been found that probably has a periodic brightness variation with P=1.518 days and the mean value V=14.80 and which may belong to the class of “spotted” stars. 14′x14′ charts are supplied for identifying the stars. To study the spatial distribution of galaxies lying between the Virgo cluster and the Local Group, a search was made for probable nearby galaxies. Using the method of brightest stars and of blue and red supergiants made it possible to determine the distances to 24 galaxies, among which six relatively nearby galaxies were identified. The results of the distance determinations showed that the maximum in the number distribution of galaxies lies at 17.0 Mpc, which we take as the distance to the Virgo cluster. Using the difference between the distance moduli of two clusters of galaxies, in Virgo and Coma Berenices, from literature sources and the velocity of the latter cluster, we determined the Hubble constant to be H 0 = 77 ± 7 km·sec–1·Mpc–1.  相似文献

Optical identification of infrared sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalogue (PSC) is made by means of low-dispersion spectra of the First Byurakan Survey (FBS) and Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS) red and blue images. The purpose of this work is to examine the composition of the PSC sample of fainter sources at high galactic latitudes and to reveal QSOs, infrared galaxies, red stars (C and M), planetary nebulae, for their further investigation at the optical range. 100 of 108 unknown IRAS sources in the region with 3h50m 7h40m and + 69° + 73° are optically identified. Optical coordinates, V magnitudes, color indices, and preliminary classes are determined. According to preliminary classification 3 objects turned out to be QSOs, 36 are galaxies with very interesting morphology, 5 are faint planetary nebulae, 9 are carbon stars, and 47 are late M-type stars.Published in Astrofizika, Vol. 38, No. 4, pp. 625–629, October–December, 1995.  相似文献

BIMA SONG is a systematic imaging study of the 3 mm CO J = 1 → 0molecular emission within the centres and discs of 44 nearby spiral galaxies on size scales of a few hundred parsecs (6-9"). The overall goal of the survey is to study the role of molecular gas in the evolution of spiral galaxies. To this end, BIMA SONG addresses 1) the distribution and physical conditions of the molecular gas in galactic discs and its relation to star formation, 2) the effects of a stellar bar on the kinematics of molecular gas, including the possible inflow of gas along a bar, and 3) the distribution and role of molecular gas in the central few hundred parsecs of active and quiescent galaxies. The source list includes all (except M33and M31) 44 galaxies of Hubble types Sa–Sd, with declinations δ >−20°, visual magnitudes B < 11.0, velocities v hel <2000 km s-1, and inclinations i < 70°. Beyond the specific scientific questions we will address, this survey will provide a unique database for astronomers who study galaxies at all wavelengths. Part three of optically identified point sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalog contains 113 objects. The identifications were based on the Digitized Sky Survey (DSS), the First Byurakan Survey, blue and red maps from the Palomar Sky Survey, and infrared fluxes at 12, 25, 60, and 100 μm in the region of +61° ≤ δ ≤ + 65° and 11h15m ≤ α ≤ 18h35m with an area of 200 sq. deg. Of the 119 sources in this region, 6 could not be identified owing to the absence of optical counterparts with the given coordinates. For the identified objects we determined their optical coordinates, their departures from the IR coordinates, and their stellar V magnitudes, color indices (CI), and preliminary types. The objects have optical magnitudes in the range of 8n–21m. Of the 113 objects, 31 turned out to be stars of spectral types K and M, 1 is a planetary nebula, 2 are candidates to be quasi- stellar objects, and 79 are galaxies. A list of the 48 nonstellar objects is given. The identified galaxies include Seyfert candidates, interacting pairs, galaxies with companions, superassociations, etc. The galaxies are in groups in many cases, and the IR emission may be due to heating of intergalactic matter within a group. On a plate obtained with the 2-m RC telescope at the Bulgarian National Observatory about 1400 stars in the spiral arm S4 of the Andromeda galaxy were measured. The limit of completeness is 20 . m 2 (B magnitudes). In the central part of S4 (Figure 3) a pronounced gradient of star luminosity and density is found (Figures 6 and 7a). Here the stars become fainter at about 2 m and their surface density decreases tenfold at the distance 1 kpc from the inner edge of the arm. We have interpreted the decline of star maximum brightness from this edge as age gradient and have evaluated from it the velocity of star formation propagation across the arm, which is about 60 km s–1. If the Andromeda galaxy has trailing spiral arms and the pitch angle of S4 is about 25° in its central part, the pattern velocity p7–14 km s–1 kpc–1. This value is close to that obtained earlier with the help of the Cepheids in the same part of S4 (Efremov, 1980). The absence of a pronounced asymmetry in the star distribution across the arm in the OB82 region may be connected with the position of the strongest dust lanes in front of the stellar spiral arm here. We have stressed that in one part of the same spiral arm there may be a pronounced age gradient, and there may be no such gradient in the near-by one. In spite of the known difficulties in understanding the structure of the Andromeda galaxy it is possible to draw some conclusions which are important for the theory of spiral arms. The detailed investigations of the nearest galaxies are, therefore, most useful for understanding the spiral structure nature.  相似文献

We present UBVRCIC magnitudes of 49 comparison stars in the fields of the Seyfert galaxies Mrk 335, Mrk 79, Mrk 279, Mrk 506, 3C 382, 3C 390.3, NGC 6814, Mrk 304, Ark 564, and NGC 7469 in order to facilitate the photometric monitoring of these objects; 36 of the stars have not been calibrated before. The comparison stars are situated in 5 × 5 arcmin fields centred on the Seyfert galaxies, their V band flux ranges from 11.7 to 18.2 mag with a median value of 16.3 mag, and their BV colour index ranges from 0.4 to 1.6 mag with a median value of 0.8 mag. The median errors of the calibrated UBVRCIC magnitudes are 0.08, 0.04, 0.03, 0.04, and 0.06 mag, respectively. Comparison stars were calibrated for the first time in three of the fields (Mrk 506, 3C 382, and Mrk 304). The comparison sequences in the other fields were improved in various aspects. Extra stars were calibrated in four fields (Mrk 335, Mrk 79, NGC 6814, and NGC 7469) – most of these stars are fainter and are situated closer to the Seyfert galaxies compared to the existing comparison stars. A study of four open clusters on Tautenburg Schmidt plates in the direction to the Galactic Centre (l = 17.0°, b = +0.8°) is presented. In a field of 8.95 square degrees proper motions and B, V magnitudes were determined for about 36 500 stars up to the limiting magnitudes B = 17m.9, V = 16m.8. For stars brighter than B = 16m an accuracy of about 3 mas/year has been estimated for proper motions. The rms errors of stellar magnitudes and (BV) colours is about 0.1 mag. There are two open clusters already known in this sky area: Trumpler 32 (C 1814-133) and NGC 6611 (C 1816-138). By the inspection of the plates two additional anonymous clusters were identified near the double star ADS 11285 or BD −14°5014 (C 1819-146) and near the star BD −14°5016 (C 1820-146). The cluster membership determination was carried out using information on spatial and proper motion distributions of stars in the field. The colour-magnitude diagrams up to the limiting stellar magnitude were constructed. For each cluster interstellar extinction AV, diameters of the core and corona, ages and spatial velocity components (V, W) relative to the LSR in the Y, Z-galactic directions were derived. The distances to the clusters were obtained to 1720 pc, 2260 pc, 2130 pc and 2130 pc for Trumpler 32, NGC 6611, C 1819-146 and C 1820-146, respectively. All clusters are situated in the Sagittarius-Carina spiral arm. Their spatial location confirms the assumption that galactic spiral arms are close to logarithmic spirals with a characteristic angle of about 20 degrees.  相似文献

The second portion of optically identified point sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalog contains 104 objects. The identifications were made on the basis of the Digitized Sky Survey (DSS), the First Byurakan Survey (FBS), blue and red maps of the Palomar Survey (POSS), and infrared fluxes at wavelengths of 12, 25, 60, and 100 fim in the region of +61 ° ≤ δ ≤ +65°and 50h30m ≤ α ≤ 11h15m with an area of 157 sq. deg. Of the 114 sources in this region, 10 could not be identified because of the absence of the corresponding optical counterparts with the given coordinates. For the identified objects we determined their optical coordinates, their departure from the IR coordinates, the stellar V magnitudes, the color indices CI, and the preliminary types. The objects have optical magnitudes in the range of 8n–21m. Of the 104 objects, 46 turned out to be stars of spectral types K and M, 1 is a planetary nebula, 3 are QSO candidates, and 54 are galaxies. In the present work we give a list of the 58 nonstellar objects. The identified galaxies include Seyfert candidates, interacting pairs, galaxies with companions and superassociations, etc. Finder charts for these objects from the DSS are given. We present the results of our stellar photometry and spectroscopy for the new Local Group galaxy VV124 (UGC4879) obtainedwith the 6-m BTAtelescope. The presence of a fewbright supergiants in the galaxy indicates that the current star formation process is weak. The apparent distribution of stars with different ages in VV 124 does not differ from the analogous distributions of stars in irregular galaxies, but the ratio of the numbers of young and old stars indicates that VV 124 belongs to the rare Irr/Sph type of galaxies. The old stars (red giants) form the most extended structure, a thick disk with an exponential decrease in the star number density to the edge. Definitely, the young population unresolvable in images makes a great contribution to the background emission from the central galactic regions. The presence of young stars is also confirmed by the [OIII] emission line visible in the spectra that belongs to extensive diffuse galactic regions. The mean radial velocity of several components (two bright supergiants, the unresolvable stellar population, and the diffuse gas) is υ h = −70 ± 15 km s−1 and the velocity with which VV 124 falls into the Local Group is υ LG = −12 ± 15 km s−1. We confirm the distance to the galaxy (D = 1.1 ± 0.1 Mpc) and the metallicity of red giants ([Fe/H] = −1.37) found by Kopylov et al. (2008). VV 124 is located on the periphery of the Local Group approximately at the same distance from M31 and our Galaxy and is isolated from other galaxies. The galaxy LeoA nearest to it is 0.5 Mpc away.  相似文献

We observed a stellar occultation by Titan on 2003 November 14 from La Palma Observatory using ULTRACAM with three Sloan filters: u, g, and i (358, 487, and 758 nm, respectively). The occultation probed latitudes 2° S and 1° N during immersion and emersion, respectively. A prominent central flash was present in only the i filter, indicating wavelength-dependent atmospheric extinction. We inverted the light curves to obtain six lower-limit temperature profiles between 335 and 485 km (0.04 and 0.003 mb) altitude. The i profiles agreed with the temperature measured by the Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument [Fulchignoni, M., and 43 colleagues, 2005. Nature 438, 785–791] above 415 km (0.01 mb). The profiles obtained from different wavelength filters systematically diverge as altitude decreases, which implies significant extinction in the light curves. Applying an extinction model [Elliot, J.L., Young, L.A., 1992. Astron. J. 103, 991–1015] gave the altitudes of line of sight optical depth equal to unity: 396±7 and 401±20 km (u immersion and emersion); 354±7 and 387±7 km (g immersion and emersion); and 336±5 and 318±4 km (i immersion and emersion). Further analysis showed that the optical depth follows a power law in wavelength with index 1.3±0.2. We present a new method for determining temperature from scintillation spikes in the occulting body's atmosphere. Temperatures derived with this method are equal to or warmer than those measured by the Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument. Using the highly structured, three-peaked central flash, we confirmed the shape of Titan's middle atmosphere using a model originally derived for a previous Titan occultation [Hubbard, W.B., and 45 colleagues, 1993.
