We derive the dispersion equation for gravito-magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) waves in an isothermal, gravitationally stratified plasma with a horizontal inhomogeneous magnetic field. Sound and Alfvén speeds are constant. Under these conditions, it is possible to derive analytically the equations for gravito-MHD waves. The high values of the viscous and magnetic Reynolds numbers in the solar atmosphere imply that the dissipative terms in the MHD equations are negligible, except in layers around the positions where the frequency of the MHD wave equals the local Alfvén or slow wave frequency. Outside these layers the MHD waves are accurately described by the equations of ideal MHD. We consider waves that propagate energy upward in the atmosphere. For the plane boundary, z=0, between two isothermal plasma regions with horizontal but different magnetic fields, we discuss the boundary conditions and derive the equations for the reflection and transmission coefficients. In the simpler case of a gravitationally stratified plasma without magnetic field, these coefficients describe the reflection and transmission properties of gravito-acoustic waves.  相似文献

The stationary axisymmetric outflow from a rotating sphere with a (split) monopole magnetic field is considered. The stream equation describing the outflow is linearized in terms of the Michel magnetization parameter σ−1 ≪ 1, which allows a self-consistent analysis of the direct problem. It is shown that for a finite σ the fast magnetosonic surface is located at a finite distance ∼ σ1/3 R L ( R L =  c /ΩF is the light cylinder). We have also found that the particle energy at the fast surface is just equal to the Michel value γ ∼ 1/3σ. The particle acceleration and magnetic field collimation are shown to become ineffective outside the fast magnetosonic surface.  相似文献

In this paper, the slow MHD mode oscillations of the coronal plasma are studied. The aim is to identify the effect of structuring (such as magnetic field, temperature, density, and pressure) on the frequencies of oscillations. We modelled the coronal medium as a low-β plasma with longitudinally density and pressure stratifications and a weakly inhomogeneous magnetic field varied slowly with height and radial directions. The linearized ideal MHD equations reduced to a single Klein–Gordon differential equation for square of oscillatory frequencies. The eigenfunctions and analytical dispersion relations are derived. The dispersion relations were solved numerically. In the case of uniform magnetic field, the previous studies verified. Our numerical results show that, the frequencies and their ratios are very sensitive functions of pressure scale height, and slightly varying functions of inhomogeneity parameter of magnetic field. By changing the magnetic field strength between the apex and footpoints of the loop about 50%, the frequencies ratio are changed about 5%. We concluded that, the pressure scale height and temperature gradient are first order effects and inhomogeneity of magnetic field is a second order effect on the slow mode oscillations.  相似文献

A multiple sclaes perturbation theory has been applied to investigate the nonlinear behaviour of beam-plasma system near a marginally stable state in the presence of longitudinal magnetic field. The perturbation method leads to a nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the finite amplitude. The coefficients of this equation show that only if the beam is compressed isothermally can there exist a range of wavenumbers for which stabilization might occur. The stable region increases with the applied magnetic field.  相似文献

Strong magnetic fields in relativistic stars can be a cause of crust fracturing, resulting in the excitation of global torsional oscillations. Such oscillations could become observable in gravitational waves or in high-energy radiation, thus becoming a tool for probing the equation of state of relativistic stars. As the eigenfrequency of torsional oscillation modes is affected by the presence of a strong magnetic field, we study torsional modes in magnetized relativistic stars. We derive the linearized perturbation equations that govern torsional oscillations coupled to the oscillations of a magnetic field, when variations in the metric are neglected (Cowling approximation). The oscillations are described by a single two-dimensional wave equation, which can be solved as a boundary-value problem to obtain eigenfrequencies. We find that, in the non-magnetized case, typical oscillation periods of the fundamental     torsional modes can be nearly a factor of 2 larger for relativistic stars than previously computed in the Newtonian limit. For magnetized stars, we show that the influence of the magnetic field is highly dependent on the assumed magnetic field configuration, and simple estimates obtained previously in the literature cannot be used for identifying normal modes observationally.  相似文献

Force-free magnetic fields can be computed by making use of a new numerical technique, in which the fields are represented by a boundary integral equation based on a specific Green's function. Vector magnetic fields observed on the photospheric surface can be taken as the boundary conditions of this equation. In this numerical computation, the following two points are emphasized: (1) A new method for data reduction is proposed, for removing uncertainties in boundary data and determining the parameter in this Green's function, which is important for solving the boundary integral equation. In this method, the transverse components of the observed boundary field are calibrated with a linear force-free field model without changing their azimuth. (2) The computed 3-D fields satisfy the divergence-free and force-free conditions with high precision. The alignment of these field lines is mostly in agreement with structures in Hα and Yohkoh soft X-ray images. Since the boundary data are calibrated with a linear force-free field model, the computed 3-D magnetic field can be regarded as a quasi-linear force-free field approximation. The reconstruction of 3-D magnetic field in active region NOAA 7321 was taken as an example to quantitatively exhibit the capability of our new numerical technique.  相似文献

The paper considers the fully-developed slip flow in a vertical channel with radiative heat transfer and mass transfer in the presence of an externally applied magnetic field. The problem is modelled by the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, so that the gas is only slightly rarefied. Invoking the exact integral equation for radiation, the problem is reduced to a set of ordinary integro-differential equations. By realistic assumptions, the set is linearized and the temperature is reduced to a mixed Fredholm-Volterra integral equation which is solved by standard iterative procedure. Thereafter the concentration equation is solved by the WKB approximation while the velocity is obtained by the finite difference scheme. These solutions are discussed qualitatively.  相似文献

This paper deals with the second-order tensor virial equations for the linear oscillations of a gaseous mass in the presence of a magnetic field. It is shown that the commonly used linearized versions of the tensor virial equations are restricted integral equations that incorporate the linearized equation of motion but not the boundary condition. These restricted equations only allow trial functions that fulfil the boundary condition and are of limited practical value. The unrestricted variational principle for the linear oscillations of a magnetic configuration is used to derive a more general formulation of the second-order tensor virial equations so that the linear trial function i =X ij x j can be used to study the oscillations of a configuration with a magnetic field that extends in the exterior vacuum. The unrestricted virial equations have been applied to Ferraro's model and approximate results for the eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions have been obtained for nine oscillation modes.  相似文献

The conditions required for the stability of a steady-state electron beam propagating in the solar corona are determined using the quasi-linear theory. The growth rate for electron plasma waves in a magnetized plasma is evaluated, with the electron distribution function being given by an analytic solution of the linearized Fokker-Planck equation. It is shown that, when the gyrofrequency is less than the plasma frequency, the instability has a narrow angular range, with the maximum growth rate occuring along the magnetic field. A stability boundary in parameter space is determined, indicating that electron beams must be highly collimated at injection to be Langmuir unstable at any point in space. The implications of the results for alternative models of hard X-ray bursts are discussed and it is argued that Langmuir instability will not occur on either the trap model or the thermal model. Such models would, therefore, be refuted by the detection of a large flux of plasma microwave radiation associated with hard X-ray emission.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear analysis of low frequency magnetoacoustic waves propagating at an angle θ with the ambient magnetic field are investigated in dense electron-positron-ion (e-p-i) plasmas using the quantum magnetohydrodynamic (QMHD) model. In this regard, a quantum Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-Burgers (KPB) equation is derived in the small amplitude limit. The stability of KPB equation is also presented. The variation of the nonlinear fast and slow magnetoacoustic shock waves with the positron concentration, kinematic viscosity, obliqueness parameter θ, and the magnetic field, are also investigated. It is observed that the aforementioned plasma parameters significantly modify the propagation characteristics of two dimensional nonlinear magnetoacoustic shock waves in dissipative quantum magnetoplasmas. The relevance of the present investigation with regard to dense astrophysical environments is also pointed out.  相似文献

The stability of prominences and the dynamics of an eruption are studied. The prominence is represented by an uniformly twisted, curved, magnetic tube, anchored at both ends in the photosphere. Several stages of the eruption are analyzed, from the pre-eruptive phase and the onset of the instability, up to the late phases of the process. Before the eruption, the prominence evolves through a series of equilibrium states, slowly ascending either due to an increase of the electric current or to mass loss. The eruption starts when the ratio of the current to the total mass attains a critical value after which no neighbouring equilibrium exists. The linearized equation of motion was used to obtain the instability threshold, which is presented in a form enabling comparison with the observations. The height at which the prominence erupts depends on the twist, and is typically comparable with the footpoint half-separation. Low-lying prominences are stable even for large twists. The importance of the external field reconnection below the filament, and the mass loss through the legs in the early phases of the eruption is stressed. The oscillations of stable prominences with periods on the Alfvén time-scale are discussed. The results are compared with the observations.  相似文献

The coupling of thermal and ideal MHD effects in a sheared magnetic field is investigated. A slab geometry is considered so that the Alfvén mode can be decoupled from the system. With the total perturbed pressure approximately zero, the fast mode is eliminated and a system of linearized equations describing magnetic effects on the slow mode and thermal mode is derived. These modes evolve independently on individual fieldlines. One of the main features of this approach is that the influence of the dense photosphere can be included. A variety of different conditions that simulate the photospheric boundary are presented and the different results are discussed. A choice of field geometry and boundary conditions is made which removes mode rational surfaces so that there are no regions in which parallel thermal conduction can be neglected. This provides a stabilizing mechanism for the thermal mode. Growth rates are reduced by 30–40% and there is complete stabilization for sufficiently short fieldlines. The influence of dynamic and thermal boundary conditions on the formation of prominences is discussed.  相似文献

It is the subject of this article to determine diffusion coefficients of charged test particles perpendicular to a mean magnetic field analytically by starting directly from the Newton–Lorentz equation. We employ the so-called standard quasi-linear theory to test the well-known field line random walk limit. It is demonstrated in this article that there is an additional gyroresonant contribution which describes the scattering of the particle away from a single field line. For certain situations, this additional contribution is small and can be neglected. For other cases, we obtain new results such as a rigidity-dependent quasi-linear perpendicular mean free path. The results of this article are relevant for particles in the solar wind which move scatter free or nearly scatter free in the direction parallel to the magnetic field of the Sun.  相似文献

We explore numerically the transport of energetic particles in a turbulent magnetic field configuration. A test-particle code is employed to compute running diffusion coefficients as well as particle distribution functions in the different directions of space. Our numerical findings are compared with models commonly used in diffusion theory such as Gaussian distribution functions and solutions of the cosmic ray Fokker–Planck equation. Furthermore, we compare the running diffusion coefficients across the mean magnetic field with solutions obtained from the time-dependent version of the unified non-linear transport theory. In most cases we find that particle distribution functions are indeed of Gaussian form as long as a two-component turbulence model is employed. For turbulence setups with reduced dimensionality, however, the Gaussian distribution can no longer be obtained. It is also shown that the unified non-linear transport theory agrees with simulated perpendicular diffusion coefficients as long as the pure two-dimensional model is excluded.  相似文献

Discrete rigidly rotating components (modes) of the large-scale solar magnetic field have been investigated. We have used a specially calculated basic set of functions to resolve the observed magnetic field into discrete components. This adaptive set of functions, as well as the expansion coefficients, have been found by processing a series of digitized synoptic maps of the background magnetic field over a 20-year period. As a result, dependences have been obtained which describe the spatial structure and the temporal evolution of the 27-day and 28-day rigidly rotating modes of the Sun's magnetic field. The spatial structure of the modes has been compared with simulations based on the known flux-transport equation. In the simulations, the rigidly rotating modes were regarded as stationary states of the magnetic field whose rigid rotation and stability were maintained by a balance between the emergence of magnetic flux from stationary sources located at low latitudes and the horizontal transport of flux by turbulent diffusion and poleward directed meridional flow. Under these assumptions, the structure of the modes is determined solely by the horizontal velocity field of the plasma, except for the low-latitude zone where sources of magnetic flux concentrate. We have found a detailed agreement between the simulations and the results of the data analysis, provided that the amplitude of the meridional flow velocity and the diffusion constant are equal to 9.5 m s–1 and 600 km2 s–1, respectively. The analysis of the expansion coefficients has shown that the rigidly rotating modes undergo rapid step-like variations which occur quasi-periodically with a period of about two years. These variations are caused by separate surges of magnetic flux in the photosphere, so that each new surge gives rise to a rapid replacement of old large-scale magnetic structures by newly arisen ones.  相似文献

It is impossible to make a direct measurement of the coronal magnetic field from the ground. The coronal magnetic field is, then, usually inferred by extrapolation of the observed photospheric magnetic field. The so-called potential model has been used for this extrapolation. We have to solve the Laplacian equation of the magnetic scalar potential. This magnetic scalar potential can be expanded into a spherical harmonic series. In this paper, new simple recursion formulae are proposed to solve the Laplacian equation; that is, to determine the spherical harmonic coefficients.  相似文献

Transport equations are used to determine coefficients which are generalizations for any frequency of electric field of the parallel, Pedersen and Hall conductivities in a fully ionized gas.

These coefficients are used in an investigation of the propagation of weak electromagnetic and hydromagnetic waves of all frequencies across a homogeneous and constant magnetic field in a rarefied fully ionized gas. For propagation perpendicular to the magnetic field it is found for all frequencies

where V2 = H2/4π and v, h are the perturbations of the velocity, magnetic field. Similar relationships are deduced for propagation at any angle to the field for frequencies greater than about 10 times the gyrofrequency of electrons.

The theory is applied to discuss transmission of disturbance across the interplanetary medium, the temperature of the solar corona and the earth's outer atmosphere, the emission of non-thermal solar radio noise, cosmic radio noise and the anomalous emission of light from shock fronts.  相似文献

Using a finite elements method, the magnetohydrostatic equation in a non-isothermal atmosphere is solved. The result is similar to the case in an isothermal atmosphere (Su, 1985). It is found that at some critical amount of shearing a magnetic island is formed and then breaks out to form an open magnetic configuration in which tearing-mode instability may occur. As the gradient of longitudinal magnetic field at some lower solar corona level increases, shearing loops containing strong currents are formed and the critical magnetic shearing parameter at which the magnetic island occurs, gets larger. In such a case, a lot of magnetic free energy is not easily released. It may be accumulated in a small volume above the polarity inversion line. As magnetic shearing increases, the magnetic free energy gets larger, until the magnetic shearing parameter reaches a higher critical value, a sudden change in magnetic configuration occurs. Such conditions may lead to high-energy solar eruptive phenomenon.  相似文献

The magnetic splitting peculiarities of the absorption lines in the sunspot spectrum are considered. The most common and typical of them is breaking of all Stokes parameter symmetry in regard to the line center. The possible reason of this effect is the macroscopic gas motion with inhomogeneous velocity. Computed contours are given for the line Fe i λ5250 Å with various combinations of magnetic and velocity fields. Magneto-optical effects within the line which are connected with the magnetic and velocity field inhomogeneity are discussed. The observation results are discussed for longitudinal magnetic field zero lines. These observations were carried out for the sunspot and photosphere in two spectral lines Fe i λλ 5250 and 5233 Å. In the sunspot the regular displacement of one zero line with respect to the other zero line takes place whereas in the photosphere the displacements are random. The possible reason of the regular displacement is the change of the magnetic field direction in the different optical layers wherein corresponding spectral lines are formed effectively. The connection between the zero line displacement of a longitudinal magnetic field and the crossover effect is discussed. The computation results are given which agree with observations and illustrate the above-mentioned relationship. The influence of the Stokes parameter asymmetry on the measured magnetic field signals is considered.  相似文献
