在短短十九年里,VLBI技术已经发展为具有毫角秒高分辨率成图观测能力的独一无二的技术,对天体物理研究作出了相当大的贡献。VLBI系统将成为今后十到十五年里最有希望和最重要的射电天文观测设备。 本文从回顾射电望远镜发展的简史出发,说明VLBI已日益成为射电观测手段的主要发展方向之一;文章总结了VLBI功能发展的现状及其在主要探测领域——致密射电源的研究中所得到的观测结果的概貌,阐明在这样的背景和基础上,VLBI进一步发展的方向;最后简单介绍今后十来年里可能发展或建成的VLBI系统。  相似文献

在近代科学技术发展的基础上诞生和成长起来的射电天文学已经走过了66年的历程,作为射电天文学主要探测工具的射电望远镜有了长足的进步,面临21世纪人类社会和自然科学技术包括天文学发展的挑战,射电望远镜及射电天文学将迈出新的步伐.从射电天文学和射电望远镜发展的关系、射电望远镜几个主要发展方向和目前水平、自90年代以来逐步勾画而明确起来的未来发展方向等方面阐明了射电望远镜的发展和前景,以作为我国发展新一代射电望远镜的参考.  相似文献

利用HiRes宇宙线实验的观测数据,通过扣除测量信号中的切仑科夫光成份,测量了广延大气簇射的纵向发展曲线。把所有的纵向发展曲线归一并且平均,获得平均纵向发展曲线。根据所得曲线,检验了3个簇射模型,它们都能较好地描述纵向发展曲线。如果利用高斯函数来描述簇射的纵向发展曲线,发现纵向发展曲线的宽度(σ)与簇射发展最大的深度有一定的关联,而且该参量从1017eV到1020 eV能量范围内几乎保持不变。另外还对平均纵向发展曲线的不确定性进行了讨论。  相似文献

We analyse the effects of the detector response time on bolometric measurements of the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). We quantify the effect in terms of a single dimensionless parameter L defined as the ratio between the time the beam sweeps its own size and the bolometer response time. As L decreases below ∼ 2.5, the point-source response of the experiment becomes elongated. We introduce a window function matrix based on the timestream data to assess the effects of the elongated beam. We find that the values of the window function matrix elements decrease slowly as a function of L . Our analysis and results apply to other cases of beam asymmetry. For the High Frequency Instrument on board the Planck Surveyor satellite we show that, for a broad range of L , the ability of the experiment to extract the cosmological parameters is not degraded. Our analysis enhances the flexibility in tuning the design parameters of CMB anisotropy experiments.  相似文献

Analytical theory is combined with extensive numerical simulations to compare different flavours of centroiding algorithms: thresholding, weighted centroid, correlation, quad cell (QC). For each method, optimal parameters are defined in function of photon flux, readout noise and turbulence level. We find that at very low flux the noise of QC and weighted centroid leads the best result, but the latter method can provide linear and optimal response if the weight follows spot displacements. Both methods can work with average flux as low as 10 photons per subaperture under a readout noise of three electrons. At high-flux levels, the dominant errors come from non-linearity of response, from spot truncations and distortions and from detector pixel sampling. It is shown that at high flux, centre of gravity approaches and correlation methods are equivalent (and provide better results than QC estimator) as soon as their parameters are optimized. Finally, examples of applications are given to illustrate the results obtained in the paper.  相似文献

Machine learning has achieved great success in many areas today. The lifting algorithm has a strong ability to adapt to various scenarios with a high accuracy, and has played a great role in many fields. But in astronomy, the application of lifting algorithms is still rare. In response to the low classification accuracy of the dark star/galaxy source set in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), a new research result of machine learning, eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), has been introduced. The complete photometric data set is obtained from the SDSS-DR7, and divided into a bright source set and a dark source set according to the star magnitude. Firstly, the ten-fold cross-validation method is used for the bright source set and the dark source set respectively, and the XGBoost algorithm is used to establish the star/galaxy classification model. Then, the grid search and other methods are used to adjust the XGBoost parameters. Finally, based on the galaxy classification accuracy and other indicators, the classification results are analyzed, by comparing with the models of function tree (FT), Adaptive boosting (Adaboost), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Stacked Denoising AutoEncoders (SDAE), and Deep Belief Nets (DBN). The experimental results show that, the XGBoost improves the classification accuracy of galaxies in the dark source classification by nearly 10% as compared to the function tree algorithm, and improves the classification accuracy of sources with the darkest magnitudes in the dark source set by nearly 5% as compared to the function tree algorithm. Compared with other traditional machine learning algorithms and deep neural networks, the XGBoost also has different degrees of improvement.  相似文献

偏振定标单元(Polarization Calibration Unit, PCU)对于定标由偏振系统和天文望远镜产生的仪器偏振至关重要, 然而偏振定标单元 中偏振元件光轴的方位角误差是限制定标精度的主要因素之一. 为解决该问题, 提出了一种基于约束非线性最 小化优化的方位角误差定标方法, 该方法具有定标精度高、定标速度快的优点. 首先将偏振定标单元中的线性 偏振片和四分之一波片的光轴方位角误差设置为两个待优化的自由变量, 然后利用产生和测量的Stokes参数 以及偏振定标获得的响应矩阵定义优化目标函数, 最终使用约束非线性最小化优化方法来确定 两个偏振元件的方位角误差. 分别从理论模拟和实际测量两个方面对优化方法进行了验证, 实验结果表明, 该 优化方法能够成功获得上述两个方位角误差, 精度分别优于2.79$''$和2.72$''$. 此外, 从理论上 计算分析了不同方位角误差对各Stokes分量的影响情况. 该优化方法有望应用到我国太阳望远镜中偏振定标 装置的误差定标及研制之中.  相似文献

We study the incidence of the underlying host galaxy light on the measured optical linear polarization of blazars. Our methodology consists of the implementation of simulated observations obtained under different atmospheric conditions, which are characterized by the Gaussian σ of the seeing function. The simulated host plus active nucleus systems span broad ranges in luminosity, structural properties, redshift and polarization; this allows us to test the response of the results against each of these parameters.
Our simulations show that, as expected, the measured polarization is always lower than the intrinsic value, due to the contamination by non-polarized star light from the host. This effect is more significant when the host is brighter than the active nucleus, and/or a large photometric aperture is used. On the other hand, if seeing changes along the observing time under certain particular conditions, spurious microvariability could be obtained, especially when using a small photometric aperture. We thus give some recommendations in order to minimize both unwanted effects, as well as basic guidelines to estimate a lower limit of the true (nuclear) polarization.
As an example, we apply the results of our simulations to real polarimetric observations, with high temporal resolution, of the blazar PKS 0521−365.  相似文献

The Voigt–Hjerting function is fundamental in order to correctly model the profiles of absorption lines imprinted on the spectra of bright background sources by intervening absorbing systems. In this work, we present a simple analytic approximation to this function in the context of absorption-line profiles of intergalactic H  i absorbers. Using basic calculus tools, we derive an analytic expression for the Voigt–Hjerting function that contains only fourth-order polynomial and Gaussian functions. In connection with the absorption coefficient of intergalactic neutral hydrogen, this approximation is suitable for modelling Voigt profiles with an accuracy of 10−4 or better for an arbitrary wavelength baseline, for column densities up to   N H I= 10 22 cm−2  , and for damping parameters   a ≲ 10−4  , that is, the entire range of parameters characteristic to all Lyman transitions arising in a variety of H  i absorbing systems such as Lyman α (Lyα) forest clouds, Lyman limit systems and damped Lyα systems. We hence present an approximation to the Voigt–Hjerting function that is both accurate and flexible to implement in various types of programming languages and machines, and with which Voigt profiles can be calculated in a reliable and very simple manner.  相似文献

Difference imaging is a technique for obtaining precise relative photometry of variable sources in crowded stellar fields and, as such, constitutes a crucial part of the data reduction pipeline in surveys for microlensing events or transiting extrasolar planets. The Optimal Image Subtraction (OIS) algorithm of Alard & Lupton (1998) permits the accurate differencing of images by determining convolution kernels which, when applied to reference images with particularly good seeing and signal‐to‐noise (S/N), provide excellent matches to the point‐spread functions (PSF) in other images of the time series to be analysed. The convolution kernels are built as linear combinations of a set of basis functions, conventionally bivariate Gaussians modulated by polynomials. The kernel parameters, mainly the widths and maximal degrees of the basis function model, must be supplied by the user. Ideally, the parameters should be matched to the PSF, pixel‐sampling, and S/N of the data set or individual images to be analysed. We have studied the dependence of the reduction outcome as a function of the kernel parameters using our new implementation of OIS within the IDL‐based TRIPP package. From the analysis of noise‐free PSF simulations of both single objects and crowded fields, as well as the test images in the ISIS OIS software package, we derive qualitative and quantitative relations between the kernel parameters and the success of the subtraction as a function of the PSF widths and sampling in reference and data images and compare the results to those of other implementations found in the literature. We consider the luminosity and environmental dependence of structural parameters of lenticular galaxies in the near-infrared K band. Using a 2D galaxy image decomposition technique, we extract bulge and disc structural parameters for a sample of 36 lenticular galaxies observed by us in the K band. By combining data from the literature for field and cluster lenticulars with our data, we study correlations between parameters that characterize the bulge and the disc as a function of luminosity and environment. We find that scaling relations such as the Kormendy relation, photometric plane and other correlations involving bulge and disc parameters show a luminosity dependence. This dependence can be explained in terms of galaxy formation models in which faint lenticulars  ( M T > −24.5)  formed via secular formation processes that likely formed the pseudo-bulges of late-type disc galaxies, while brighter lenticulars  ( M T < −24.5)  formed through a different formation mechanism most likely involving major mergers. On probing variations in lenticular properties as a function of environment, we find that faint cluster lenticulars show systematic differences with respect to faint field lenticulars. These differences support the idea that the bulge and disc components fade after the galaxy falls into a cluster, while simultaneously undergoing a transformation from spiral to lenticular morphologies.  相似文献
