OH in zoned amphiboles of eclogite from the western Tianshan,NW-China   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Chemically-zoned amphibole porphyroblast grains in an eclogite (sample ws24-7) from the western Tianshan (NW-China) have been analyzed by electron microprobe (EMP), micro Fourier-transform infrared (micro-FTIR) and micro-Raman spectroscopy in the OH-stretching region. The EMP data reveal zoned amphibole compositions clustering around two predominant compositions: a glaucophane end-member ( B Na2 C M2+ 3 M3+ 2 T Si8(OH)2) in the cores, whereas the mantle to rim of the samples has an intermediate amphibole composition ( A 0.5 B Ca1.5Na0.5 C M 2+ 4.5 M 0.53+ T Si7.5Al0.5(OH)2) (A = Na and/or K; M 2+ = Mg and Fe2+; M 3+ = Fe3+ and/or Al) between winchite (and ferro-winchite) and katophorite (and Mg-katophorite). Furthermore, we observed complicated FTIR and Raman spectra with OH-stretching absorption bands varying systematically from core to rim. The FTIR/Raman spectra of the core amphibole show three lower-frequency components (at 3,633, 3,649–3,651 and 3,660–3,663 cm−1) which can be attributed to a local O(3)-H dipole surrounded by M(1) M(3)Mg3, M(1) M(3)Mg2Fe2+ and M(1) M(3) Fe2+ 3, respectively, an empty A site and T Si8 environments. On the other hand, bands at higher frequencies (3,672–3,673, 3,691–3,697 and 3,708 cm−1) are observable in the rims of the amphiboles, and they indicate the presence of an occupied A site. The FTIR and Raman data from the OH-stretching region allow us to calculate the site occupancy of the A, M(1)–M(3), T sites with confidence when combined with EPM data. By contrast M(2)- and M(4) site occupancies are more difficult to evaluate. We use these samples to highlight on the opportunities and limitations of FTIR OH-stretching spectroscopy applied to natural high pressure amphibole phases. The much more detailed cation site occupancy of the zoned amphibole from the western Tianshan have been obtained by comparing data from micro-chemical and FTIR and/or Raman in the OH-stretching data. We find the following characteristic substitutions Si(T-site) (Mg, Fe)[M(1)–M(3)-site] → Al(T-site) Al[M(1)–M(3)-site] (tschermakite), Ca(M4-site)□ (A-site) → Na(M4-site) Na + K(A-site) (richterite), and Ca(M4-site) (Mg, Fe) [M(1)–M(3)-site] → Na(M4-site) Al[M(1)–M(3)-site] (glaucophane) from the configurations observed during metamorphism.  相似文献

In order to assess the geothermometric potential of the Na2(Mn2−2x Fe1+2x )(PO4)3 system (x = 0–1), which represents the compositions of natural weakly oxidized alluaudites, we performed hydrothermal experiments between 400 and 800°C, at 1 kbar, under an oxygen fugacity (f(O2)) controlled by the Ni–NiO (NNO), Fe2O3–Fe3O4 (HM), Cu2O–CuO (CT), and Fe–Fe3O4 (MI) buffers. When f(O2) is controlled by NNO, single-phase alluaudites crystallize at 400 and 500°C, whereas the association alluaudite + marićite appears between 500 and 700°C. The limit between these two fields corresponds to the maximum temperature that can be reached by alluaudites in granitic pegmatites, because marićite has never been observed in these geological environments. Because alluaudites are very sensitive to variations of oxygen fugacity, the field of hagendorfite, Na2MnFe2+Fe3+(PO4)3, has been positioned in the f(O2)–T diagram, and provides a tool that can be used to estimate the oxygen fugacity conditions that prevailed in granitic pegmatites during the crystallization of this phosphate.  相似文献

A selected set of five different kyanite samples was analysed by electron microprobe and found to contain chromium between <0.001 and 0.055 per formula unit (pfu). Polarized electronic absorption spectroscopy on oriented single crystals, R1, R2-sharp line luminescence and spectra of excitation of λ3- and λ4-components of R1-line of Cr3+-emission had the following results: (1) The Fe2+–Ti4+ charge transfer in c-parallel chains of edge connected M(1) and M(2) octahedra shows up in the electronic absorption spectra as an almost exclusively c(||Z′)-polarized, very strong and broad band at 16000 cm−1 if <, in this case the only band in the spectrum, and at an invariably lower energy of 15400 cm−1 in crystals with  ≥ . The energy difference is explained by an expansion of the Of–Ok, and Ob–Om edges, by which the M(1) and M(2) octahedra are interconnected (Burnham 1963), when Cr3+ substitutes for Al compared to the chromium-free case. (2) The Cr3+ is proven in two greatly differing crystal fields a and b, giving rise to two sets of bands, derived from the well known dd transitions of Cr3+ 4A2g4T2g(F)(I), →4T1g(F)(II), and →4T1g(P)(III). Band energies in the two sets a and b, as obtained by absorption, A, and excitation, E, agree well: I: 17300(a, A), 17200(a, E), 16000(b, A), 16200(b, E); II: 24800(a, A), 24400(a, E); 22300(b, A), 22200(b, E); III: 28800(b,A) cm−1. Evaluation of crystal field parameters from the bands in the electronic spectra yield Dq(a)=1730 cm−1, Dq(b)=1600 cm−1, B(a)=790 cm−1, B(b)=620 cm−1 (errors ca. ±10 cm−1), again in agreement with values extracted from the λ3, λ4 excitation spectra. The CF-values of set a are close to those typical of Cr3+ substituting for Al in octahedra of other silicate minerals without constitutional OH as for sapphirine, mantle garnets or beryl, and are, therefore, interpreted as caused by Cr3+ substituting for Al in some or all of the M(1) to M(4) octaheda of the kyanite structure, which are crystallographically different but close in their mean Al–O distances, ranging from 1.896 to 1.919 A (Burnham 1963), and slight degrees of distortion. Hence, band set a originates from substitutive Cr3+ in the kyanite structural matrix. The CF-data of Cr3+ type b, expecially B, resemble those of Cr3+ in oxides, especially of corundum type solid solutions or eskolaite. This may be interpreted by the assumption that a fraction of the total chromium contents might be allocated in a precursor of a corundum type exsolution. Six synthetic NaScSi2O6–CaNiSi2O6 pyroxenes were studied by optical absorption spectroscopy. Five of them of intermediate (Na1−x , Ca x )(Sc1−x , Ni x )Si2O6 compositions show spectra typical of Ni2+ in octahedral coordination, more precise Ni2+ at the M1 site of the pyroxene structure. The common feature of all spectra is three broad absorption bands with maxima around 8,000, 13,000 and 24,000 cm−1 assigned to 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g, 3 A 2g → 3 T 1g and →3 T 1g (3 P) electronic spin-allowed transitions of VINi2+. A weak narrow peak at ∼14,400 cm−1 is assigned to the spin-forbidden 3 A 2g → 1 T 2g (1 D) transition of Ni2+. Under pressure the spin-allowed bands shift to higher energies and change in intensity. The octahedral compression modulus, calculated from the shift of the 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g band in the (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6 pyroxene is evaluated as 85±20 GPa. The Racah parameter B of Ni2+(M1) is found gradually changing from ∼919 cm−1 at ambient pressure to ∼890 cm−1 at 6.18 GPa. The Ni end-member pyroxene [(Ca0.93 Ni0.07)NiSi2O6] has a spectrum different from all others. In addition to the above mentioned bands of Ni2+(M1) it displays several new relatively intense and broad extra bands, which were attributed to electronic transitions of Ni2+ at the M2 site. In difference to CaO8 polyhedron geometry of an eightfold coordination, Ni2+(M2)O8 polyhedra are assumed to be relatively large distorted octahedra. Due to different distortions and different compressibilities of the M1 and M2 sites the Ni2+(M1)- and Ni2+(M2)-bands display rather different pressure-induced behaviors, becoming more resolved in the high-pressure spectra than in that measured at atmospheric pressure. The octahedral compression modulus of Ni2+(M1) in this end-member pyroxene is evaluated as 150 ± 25 GPa, which is noticeably larger than in Ni0.3 pyroxene. This is due to a smaller size and, thus, a stiffer character of Ni2+(M1)O6 octahedron in the (Ca0.93Ni0.07)NiSi2O6 pyroxene compared to (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6.

We have interpreted a number of luminescence centers in natural tugtupite Na8Al2Be2Si8O24Cl2, sodalite Na8Al6Si6O24C2 and hackmanite Na8Al6Si6O24(Cl2,S) by use of laser-induced time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy. The main new results are the following: Fe3+, Mn2+, Eu2+, Ce3+, mercury type (potentially Pb2+, Tl+, Sn2+ and/or Sb3+), radiation induced luminescence centers; several types of S2 centers. Spectral shift connected with the presence of luminescence centers, which are detected together with S2 centers and impossible to resolve with continuous wave luminescence spectroscopy, is the possible reason for spectral diversity of S2 luminescence centers presented in different publications.  相似文献

Synthetic clinopyroxenes of compositions between CaFe3+AlSiO6 and CaFe 0.85 3+ Ti0.15Al1.15Si0.85O6 have been studied by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. The spectra consist of two doublets assigned to Fe3+ in M1 and T sites. From the area ratios of the doublets the site occupancies of Fe3+ and Al were determined. Si decreases from 1.00 to 0.85 and Al+Fe3+ increases from 1.00 to 1.15 per formula unit with increasing CaTiAl2O6 component of the clinopyroxene. The atomic ratio of Fe3+(T)/Fe3+(total) is 0.11–0.16; 4.5–7.5 percent of the T sites are occupied by Fe3+. Thus the presence of Si-O-Fe3+, Al-O-Fe3+, and Fe3+-O-Fe3+ bonds is expected in addition to Si-O-Si, Si-O-Al and Al-O-Al bonds. However, the possibility of the former bonds being present would be small, because the amount of Fe3+(T) is far less than that of Si and Al. The isomer shift of Fe3+(T) is one of the largest in the values found previously for Fe3+(T) in silicates. It increases with increasing CaTiAl2O6 component and seems to be correlated to the ionic character of the cation — anion bonds calculated from electronegativity. The quadrupole splittings of Fe3+(M1) and Fe3+(T) decrease with the substitution of Fe3+?Ti4+ in the M1 and of Si?Al in the T sites.  相似文献

The thermoelastic behaviour of a natural gedrite having the crystal-chemical formula ANa0.47 B(Na0.03 Mg1.05 Fe0.862+ Mn0.02 Ca0.04) C(Mg3.44 Fe0.362+ Al1.15 Ti0.054+) T(Si6.31 Al1.69)O22 W(OH)2 has been studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction to 973 K (Stage 1). After data collection at 973 K, the crystal was heated to 1,173 K to induce dehydrogenation, which was registered by significant changes in unit-cell parameters, M1–O3 and M3–O3 bond lengths and refined site-scattering values of M1 and M4 sites. These changes and the crystal-chemical formula calculated from structure refinement show that all Fe2+ originally at M4 migrates into the ribbon of octahedrally coordinated sites, where most of it oxidises to Fe3+, and there is a corresponding exchange of Mg from the ribbon into M4. The resulting composition is that of an oxo-gedrite with an inferred crystal-chemical formula ANa0.47 B(Na0.03 Mg1.93 Ca0.04) C(Mg2.56 Mn0.022+ Fe0.102+ Fe1.223+ Al1.15 Ti0.054+) T(Si6.31 Al1.69) O22 W[O1.122− (OH)0.88]. This marked redistribution of Mg and Fe is interpreted as being driven by rapid dehydrogenation at the H3A and H3B sites, such that all available Fe in the structure orders at M1 and M3 sites and is oxidised to Fe3+. Thermoelastic data are reported for gedrite and oxo-gedrite; the latter was measured during cooling from 1,173 to 298 K (Stage 2) and checked after further heating to 1,273 K (Stage 3). The thermoelastic properties of gedrite and oxo-gedrite are compared with each other and those of anthophyllite.  相似文献

Phase transitions in MgGeO3 and ZnGeO3 were examined up to 26 GPa and 2,073 K to determine ilmenite–perovskite transition boundaries. In both systems, the perovskite phases were converted to lithium niobate structure on release of pressure. The ilmenite–perovskite boundaries have negative slopes and are expressed as P(GPa)=38.4–0.0082T(K) and P(GPa)=27.4−0.0032T(K), respectively, for MgGeO3 and ZnGeO3. Enthalpies of SrGeO3 polymorphs were measured by high-temperature calorimetry. The enthalpies of SrGeO3 pseudowollasonite–walstromite and walstromite–perovskite transitions at 298 K were determined to be 6.0±8.6 and 48.9±5.8 kJ/mol, respectively. The calculated transition boundaries of SrGeO3, using the measured enthalpy data, were consistent with the boundaries determined by previous high-pressure experiments. Enthalpy of formation (ΔH f°) of SrGeO3 perovskite from the constituent oxides at 298 K was determined to be −73.6±5.6 kJ/mol by calorimetric measurements. Thermodynamic analysis of the ilmenite–perovskite transition boundaries in MgGeO3 and ZnGeO3 and the boundary of formation of SrSiO3 perovskite provided transition enthalpies that were used to estimate enthalpies of formation of the perovskites. The ΔH f° of MgGeO3, ZnGeO3 and SrSiO3 perovskites from constituent oxides were 10.2±4.5, 33.8±7.2 and −3.0±2.2 kJ/mol, respectively. The present data on enthalpies of formation of the above high-pressure perovskites were combined with published data for A2+B4+O3 perovskites stable at both atmospheric and high pressures to explore the relationship between ΔH f° and ionic radii of eightfold coordinated A2+ (R A) and sixfold coordinated B4+ (R B) cations. The results show that enthalpy of formation of A2+B4+O3 perovskite increases with decreasing R A and R B. The relationship between the enthalpy of formation and tolerance factor ( R o: O2− radius) is not straightforward; however, a linear relationship was found between the enthalpy of formation and the sum of squares of deviations of A2+ and B4+ radii from ideal sizes in the perovskite structure. A diagram showing enthalpy of formation of perovskite as a function of A2+ and B4+ radii indicates a systematic change with equienthalpy curves. These relationships of ΔH f° with R A and R B can be used to estimate enthalpies of formation of perovskites, which have not yet been synthesized.  相似文献

Comparison of polarized optical absorption spectra of natural Ca-rich diopsides and synthetic NaCrSi2O6 and LiCrSi2O6 clinopyroxenes, evidences as vivid similarities, as noticeable differences. The similarities reflect the fact that in all cases Cr3+ enters the small octahedral M1-site of the clinopyroxene structure. The differences are due to some iron content in the natural samples causing broad intense near infrared bands of electronic spin-allowed dd transitions of Fe2+(M1, M2) and intervalence Fe2+/Fe3+ charge-transfer transition, and by different symmetry and different local crystal fields strength of Cr3+ in the crystal structures. The positions of the spin-allowed bands of Cr3+, especially of the low energy one caused by the electronic 4 A 2g → 2 T 1g transition, are found to be in accordance with mean M1–O distances. The local relaxation parameter ε calculated for limCr 3+ → 0 from the spectra and interatomic á Cr - O ñ \left\langle {Cr - O} \right\rangle and á Mg - O ñ \left\langle {Mg - O} \right\rangle distances yields a very high value, 0.96, indicating that in the clinopyroxene structure the local lattice relaxation around the “guest” ion, Cr3+, deviates greatly from the “diffraction” value, ε = 0, than in any other known Cr3+-bearing systems studied so far. Under pressure the spin-allowed bands of Cr3+ shift to higher energies and decrease in intensity quite in accordance with the crystal field theoretical expectations, while the spin-forbidden absorption lines remain practically unshifted, but also undergo a strong weakening. There is no evident dependence of the Racah parameter B of Cr3+ reflecting the covalence of the oxygen-chromium bond under pressure: within the uncertainty of determination it may be regarded as practically constant. The values of CrO6 octahedral modulus, k\textpoly\textloc k_{\text{poly}}^{\text{loc}} , derived from high-pressure spectra of natural chromium diopside and synthetic NaCrSi2O6 kosmochlor are very close, ~203 and ~196 GPa, respectively, being, however, nearly twice higher than that of MgO6 octahedron in diopside, 105(4) GPa, obtained by Thompson and Downs (2008). Such a strong stiffening of the structural octahedron, i.e. twice higher value of k\textCr3 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Cr}}^{3 + } }}^{\text{loc}} comparing with that of k\textMg2 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Mg}}^{2 + } }}^{\text{loc}} , may be caused by simultaneous substitution of Ca2+ by larger Na+ in the neighboring M2 sites at so-called jadeite-coupled substitution Mg2+ + Ca2+ → Cr3+ + Na+. It is also remarkable that the values of CrO6 octahedral modulus of NaCrSi2O6 kosmochlor obtained here are nearly twice larger than that of 90(16) GPa, evaluated by high-pressure X-ray structural refinement by Origlieri et al. (2003). Taking into account that the overall compressibility of the clinopyroxene structure should mainly be due to the compressibility of M1- and M2-sites, our k\textCr3 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Cr}}^{3 + } }}^{\text{loc}} -value, ~196 GPa, looks much more consistent with the bulk modulus value, 134(1) GPa.  相似文献

In order to explore possible quantitative relations between crystal field stabilization energy, CFSE, and partitioning behaviour of the 3d6-configured Fe2+ ion, a suite of 29 paragenetic rock-forming minerals from 12 high-grade metamorphic rock samples of the Ukrainian shield, including the parageneses garnet/orthopyroxene/clinopyroxene (2x), orthopyroxene/clinopyroxene, garnet/clinopyroxene, garnet/orthopyroxene/biotite, garnet/biotite, garnet/cordierite, garnet/cordierite/biotite, garnet/orthopyroxene/clinopyroxene/Ca-amphibole, Ca-amphibole/biotite (retrograde), was studied by electron microprobe analysis to obtain the respective K D Fe2+ (Ph1/Ph2) values and by polarized single crystal electronic absorption spectroscopy to evaluate the respective CFSEFe2+ values. Other than in the case of Cr3+, a clear quantitative relation between K D (Ph1/Ph2) and the ΔCFSE(Ph1/Ph2) was only observed when geometrical factors, mainly the volume of crystallographic sites and ionic radii of ions competing in the partitioning process, are similar in the respective two paragenetic phases to within 15–20%. In such cases, the ΔCFSEFe2+ contribution to K D (Ph1/Ph2) amounts to 0.1 to 0.2 log K D per 100 cm−1ΔCFSE. The conclusion is that ΔCFSEFe2+ plays only a secondary role after geometrical factors, in the partitioning behaviour of Fe2+. The reason for this is seen in the facts that, compared to the 3d  3-configured Cr3+ ion, CFSE of the 3d6-configured Fe2+ amounts only to 20–25%, and that the former ion enters only octahedral sites with similar geometrical properties in the paragenetic mineral phases. Two pumpellyites with the general formula W 8 X 4 Y 8 Z 12O56-n (OH) n were studied using 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopic and X-ray Rietveld methods to investigate the relationship between the crystal chemical behavior of iron and structural change. The samples are ferrian pumpellyite-(Al) collected from Mitsu and Kouragahana, Shimane Peninsula, Japan. Rietveld refinements gave Fe(X):Fe(Y) ratios (%) of 41.5(4):58.5(4) for the Mitsu pumpellyite and 46(1):54(1) for the Kouragahana pumpellyite, where Fe(X) and Fe(Y) represent Fe content at the X and Y sites, respectively. The Mössbauer spectra consisted of two Fe2+ and two Fe3+ doublets for the Mitsu pumpellyite, and one Fe2+ and two Fe3+ doublets for the Kouragahana pumpellyite. In terms of the area ratios of the Mössbauer doublets and the Fe(X):Fe(Y) ratios determined by the Rietveld refinements, Fe2+(X):Fe3+(X):Fe3+(Y) ratios are determined to be 22:14:64 for the Mitsu pumpellyite and 27:8:65 for the Kouragahana pumpellyite. By applying the Fe2+:Fe3+-ratio determined by the Mössbauer analysis and the site occupancies of Fe at the X and Y sites given by the Rietveld method together with chemical analysis, the resulting formula of the Mitsu and Kouragahana pumpellyites are established as Ca8(Fe 0.88 2+ Mg0.68Fe 0.77 3+ Al1.66)Σ3.99(Al5.67Fe 2.34 3+ )Σ8.01Si12O42.41(OH)13.59 and Ca8(Mg1.24Fe 0.65 2+ Fe 0.46 3+ Al1.66)Σ4.01(Al6.71Fe 1.29 3+ )Σ8.00Si12O42.14(OH)13.86, respectively. Mean Y–O distances and volumes of the YO6 octahedra increase with increasing mean ionic radii, i.e., the Fe3+→Al substitution at the Y site. However, change of the sizes of XO6 octahedra against the mean ionic radii at the X site is not distinct, and tends to depend on the volume change of the YO6 octahedra. Thus, the geometrical change of the YO6 octahedra with Fe3+→Al substitution at the Y site is essential for the structural changes of pumpellyite. The expansion of the YO6 octahedra by the ionic substitution of Fe3+ for Al causes gradual change of the octahedra to more symmetrical and regular forms.  相似文献

The electrical conduction in the mineral ilvaite was studied between ≈170 and 450 K. A natural ilvaite from Elba (Italy) was found to be semiconducting with a DC conductivity 1.8×10–3 (Ωcm)–1 at 300 K, measured parallel (∥) to the [001] direction; perpendicular (⊥) to [001] it was 1.4×10–5 (Ωcm)–1, i.e. the conductivity is highly anisotropic. The conduction is effected by a hopping charge transport between localized levels in the energy gap associated with activation energies E A =0.3–0.5 eV. It is concluded that impurities (Mg,Al,Mn) may play a decisive role in the charge hopping transport ∥ [001] that is basically governed by Fe2+-Fe3+ pairs on A-sites of the lattice as the source of electrons. Although the EA-values were similar for both measured directions, the sign of thermopower is different which points to different charge transfer mechanisms. The bulk DC conductivity σDC AC for measurements ∥ [001], obtained by extrapolation of AC data using impedance spectroscopy, could only be determined at T<300 K owing to sample–electrode interfacial effects. In contrast, the bulk σDC AC⊥ [001] showed a slight break at ≈380 K that may reflect the structural phase transition monoclinic→orthorhombic at ≈345 K. From AC conductivity measurements in the frequency range 20 Hz–1 MHz at T<300 K, a dispersive character of electronic relaxation was found, resembling that of amorphous semiconductors and of impurity conduction in crystalline semiconductors where it was ascribed to charge hopping processes of electrons between localized levels of cation pairs or clusters of limited lengths. The Fe M 2,3-edge spectra of solid solutions of garnets (almandine-skiagite Fe3(Al1–xFex)2[SiO4]3 and andradite-skiagite (Fe1–xCax)3Fe2[SiO4]3), pyroxenes (acmite-hedenbergite (Ca1–xNax)(Fe2+ 1−xFe3+ x)Si2O6), and spinels (magnetite-hercynite Fe(Al1–xFex)2O4) have been measured using the technique of parallel electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) conducted in a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The Fe M 2,3 electron energy-loss near-edge structures (ELNES) of the minerals exhibit a characteristic peak located at 4.2 eV and 2.2 eV for trivalent and divalent iron, respectively, prior to the main maximum at about 57 eV. The intensity and energy of the pre-edge feature varies depending on Fe3+/ΣFe. We demonstrate a new quantitative method to extract the ferrous/ferric ratio in minerals. A systematic relationship between Fe3+/ΣFe and the integral intensity ratio of the main maximum and the pre-edge peak of the Fe M 2,3 edge is observed. Since the partial cross sections of the Fe M 2,3 edges are some orders of magnitude higher than those of the Fe L 2,3 edges, the Fe M 2,3 edges are interesting for valence-specific imaging of Fe. The possibility of iron valence-specific imaging is illustrated by Fe M 2,3-ELNES investigations with high lateral resolution from a sample of ilmenite containing hematite exsolution lamellae that shows different edge shapes consistent with variations in the Fe3+/ΣFe ratio over distances on the order of 100 nm. Magnesian metamorphic rocks with metapelitic mineral assemblage and composition are of great interest in metamorphic petrology for their ability to constrain PT conditions in terranes where metamorphism is not easily visible. Phase–assemblage diagrams for natural and model magnesian metapelites in the system KFMASH are presented to document how phase relationships respond to water activity, bulk composition, pressure and temperature. The phase assemblages displayed on these phase diagrams are consistent with natural mineral assemblages occurring in magnesian metapelites. It is shown that the equilibrium assemblages at high pressure conditions are very sensitive to a(H2O). Specifically, the appearance of the characteristic HP assemblage chloritoid–talc–phengite–quartz (with excess H2O) in the magnesian metapelites of the Monte Rosa nappe (Western Alps) is due to the reduction of a(H2O). Furthermore, the mineral assemblages are determined by the whole-rock FeO/(FeO+MgO) ratio and effective Al content X A as well as P and T. The predicted mineral associations for the low- and high-X A model bulk compositions of magnesian metapelites at high pressure are not dependent on the X A variations as they show a similar sequence of mineral assemblages. Above 20 kbar, the prograde sequence of assemblages associated with phengite (with excess SiO2 and H2O) for low- and high-X A bulk compositions of magnesian metapelites is: carpholite–chlorite → chlorite–chloritoid → chloritoid–talc → chloritoid–talc–kyanite → talc–garnet–kyanite → garnet–kyanite ± biotite. At low to medium PT conditions, a low-X A stabilises the phengite-bearing assemblages associated with chlorite, chlorite + K-feldspar and chlorite + biotite while a high-X A results in the chlorite–phengite bearing assemblages associated with pyrophyllite, andalusite, kyanite and carpholite. A high-X A magnesian metapelite with nearly iron-free content stabilises the talc–kyanite–phengite assemblage at moderate to high PT conditions. Taking into account the effective bulk composition and a(H2O) involved in the metamorphic history, the phase–assemblage diagrams presented here may be applied to all magnesian metapelites that have compositions within the system KFMASH and therefore may contribute to gaining insights into the metamorphic evolution of terranes. As an example, the magnesian metapelites of the Monte Rosa nappe have been investigated, and an exhumation path with PT conditions for the western roof of the Monte Rosa nappe has been derived for the first time. The exhumation shows first a near-isothermal decompression from the Alpine eclogite peak conditions around 24 kbar and 505°C down to approximately 8 kbar and 475°C followed by a second decompression with concomitant cooling.M. The bulk (post-eruptive) wt% FeO concentration in each of 11 phenocryst-poor (<5%) andesite and dacite (60–69 wt% SiO2) lavas from different monogenetic vents in the Mexican arc has been measured by titration, in duplicate. The results match, within analytical error, the wt% FeO content of the magmas during phenocryst growth (pre-euptive), which were calculated on the basis of oxygen fugacity and temperature results from Fe–Ti two-oxide oxygen barometry. The average deviation between the pre- and post-eruptive FeO concentrations is ±0.15 wt%. Application of the plagioclase-liquid hygrometer shows that at the time of phenocryst growth, these 11 magmas contained from ~3–8 wt% H2O, which was extensively degassed upon eruption. There is no evidence that degassing of ≤8 wt% H2O changed the oxidation state of these magmas. Calculations of pre-eruptive and post-eruptive oxygen fugacity values relative to the Ni-NiO buffer (in terms of log10 units) for the 11 samples span a similar range; pre-eruptive ∆NNO = −0.9 to +0.7 and post-eruptive ∆NNO = −0.4 to +0.8. The data further show that extensive groundmass (closed-system) crystallization had no affect on bulk Fe3+/Fe2+ ratios. Finally, there is no systematic variation in the range of pre-eruptive Fe3+/FeT values of the samples as a function of SiO2 concentration (i.e., differentiation). Therefore, the results of this study indicate that the elevated Fe3+/FeT ratios of arc andesites and dacites, compared with magmas erupted in other tectonic settings, cannot be attributed to the effects of (1) degassing of H2O, (2) closed-system crystallization, and/or (3) differentiation effects, but instead must be inherited from their parental source rocks (i.e., mantle-derived arc basalts).  相似文献

Thirty spodumene samples of distinct paragenetic types (primary magmatic, secondary after petalite and hydrothermal) from variety of granitic pegmatites were characterized by electron microprobe, polarized FTIR spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The FTIR spectra of OH (weak sharp pleochroic bands at 3,425, 3,410, 3,395 cm−1 and in the 3,500–3,470 spectral region) are strongly polarized with maximum absorption parallel to nγ. The majority of OH dipoles are presumably generated by a partial replacement of O2 oxygen atoms with an orientation pointing above the Li vacancy site. The separation of the bands probably resulted from a replacement of the coordinating Al by Fe and Si by Al. Homogeneous spodumene mostly close to its ideal formula LiAlSi2O6 shows Fe (0.00–0.10 apfu as Fe3+; Fe3+ >> Fe2+) and Na (0.00–0.04 apfu) as the only minor cations and Fe3+Al−1 substitution up to 10 mol% of the LiFe3+Si2O6 component. Hydrogen concentrations (from 0.1 up to <5 ppm H2O by weight) vary as a function of genetic type with the highest amounts in high-temperature magmatic spodumene. Differences among particular genetic types of spodumene are related to maximum solubility of OH in spodumene structure at given PT conditions and at actual chemical composition of spodumene. OH defect concentrations in spodumene follow a trend, LT/LP pyroxenes containing lower hydrogen contents compared to HT/HP ones. The hydrogen contents in particular genetic types of spodumene and their decrease with decreasing T and P are consistent with petrologic models of the pegmatite (sub)types formations.  相似文献

The sodalite sample used in this investigation did not exhibit the characteristic orange-yellow luminescence due to the $ {\text{S}}_{ 2}^{ - } $ center, because there was no trace of sulfur impurity. The heat-treated samples exhibited green and red luminescence with maximum intensity at 496 and 687 nm, respectively, under 264 nm excitation at room temperature. Their luminescence intensities were extensively dependent on the treatment temperature. The green luminescence efficiency of the sample heat-treated at 900 °C was 6.5 times higher than that of unheated natural sodalite. At 8.5 K, the green luminescence showed a vibronic structure. After heating at 1,300 °C, the crystal structure of sodalite was transformed to NaAlSiO4 (carnegieite), and the intense red luminescence was exhibited in the NaAlSiO4 sample. The peak wavelength of the red luminescence shifted from 687 nm at 300 K to 726 nm at 8.5 K. The luminescence lifetimes of the green and red luminescence at room temperature were 2.1 and 5.1 ms, respectively. It was proposed that the origin of the green luminescence is Mn2+ replacing Na+, and that of the red luminescence is Fe3+ replacing Al3+ in sodalite or NaAlSiO4 (carnegieite).  相似文献

Ferrian magnesian spodumene was synthesized in the MLFSH system at P=0.4 GPa, T=700 °C, fO2=NNO+2.3. The space group at room T is P21/c [a=9.638(3) ?, b=8.709(2) ?, c=5.258(2) ?, β=109.83(3), V=415.2 ?3]. The structure is topologically equivalent to that of ferrian spodumene, LiFeSi2O6, and has two symmetrically independent tetrahedral chains, A and B, and two independent octahedral sites, M1 and M2. The crystal-chemical composition was determined combining EMP, SIMS and single-crystal XRD analysis, yielding M2(Li0.85Mg0.09Fe2+ 0.06) M1(Fe3+ 0.85Mg0.15)Si2O6. Li is ordered at the M2 site and Fe3+ is ordered at the M1 site, whereas Mg (and Fe2+) distribute over both octahedral sites. Structure refinements done at different temperatures (25, 70, 95, 125, 150 and 200 °C) allowed characterization of a reversible displacive P21/cC2/c transition at 106 °C. Previous HT-XRD studies of Li-clinopyroxenes had shown that the transition temperature is inversely related to the size of the M1 cation. For the crystal of this work, the aggregate ionic radius at M1 is longer than that of ferrian spodumene, for which the transition temperature is −44 °C. The higher transition temperature observed can only be explained on the basis of the shorter aggregate radius at the M2 site (due to the presence of Mg substituting after Li), in keeping with the results obtained for ferromagnesian P21/c pyroxenes. The effects of all the chemical substitutions must be considered when modelling transition temperatures and thermodynamic behaviour in clinopyroxenes.
