We compare the results of two calibration methods for deriving a photospheric vector magnetogram, as applied to the Fei 5324.19 Å line. The first method ignores the dependence of its calibration coefficients on the inclination angle. The second method is a multi-iteration, nonlinear calibration technique developed by [M.J. Hagyard, J.I. Kineke, Solar Phys. 158 (1995) 11], which allows the polarization signals to depend on both field strength and inclination angle. We compare the relationship between the derived solar magnetic field and the Stokes parameters under both methods. We find that the circular polarization signal of the Fei 5324.19 Å line is linearly proportional to the longitudinal strength, BL, when the field strength ranges from 0 to 1000 Gauss. For BL > 1000 G and inclination angles ranging from 30° to 90°, deviation from linearity is significant. For the transverse field, BT, the assumption of linearity only holds for 0 < BT < 300 G. In contrast to the former method of calibration, the improved calibration method accounts for the nonlinear relationship between polarization signals and the magnetic field strength. Using [A. The Solar Magnetism and Activity Telescope (SMAT) has been operational at Huairou Solar Observing Station since the end of 2005. Its scientific projects are the observational study of full-disc vector magnetic field and Hα chromospheric activities. In this paper, the Fourier low-frequency passing filter and the large-scale polynomials fit methods have been employed to analyse and remove the non-uniform pattern (NUP) in the full-disc Stokes V image. These methods are useful to effectively improve the quality of SMAT's data. The following main results have been obtained. (1) An intrinsic large-scale spatial distribution of NUP appears in SMAT's full-disc Stokes V image and its average amplitude accounts for 2 per cent of sunspots' field of kG. (2) NUP is testified as instrumental polarization through data reduction and observational explanation (passband shift). There are pseudo-passband shift in the wide field of view of SMAT due to NUP, and the maximum shifting value from the solar disc centre to the solar disc limb is 0.12 Å. (3) As an example, after removing SMAT's NUP in the Stokes V image, the correlation coefficients of the magnetograms become 78 per cent between SMAT and MDI (Michelson Doppler Imager project) on the SOHO ( Solar and Heliospheric Observatory ) satellite, and 92 per cent between SMAT and the SMFT (Solar Magnetic Field Telescope) at Huairou. 相似文献

Simultaneous observations of chromospheric (H) and photospheric (Fei 5324.19 Å) magnetograms in quiet solar regions enable us to study the spatial configuration of the magnetic field in the solar atmosphere. With the typical spatial resolution of the Huairou magnetograph, the photospheric and chromospheric magnetic structures of the quiet Sun maintain a very similar pattern. Moreover, the vertical magnetic flux is almost the same from the photosphere to the chromosphere. As an intermediate step, we analyze the formation of the working lines used by the Huairou video magnetograph of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory. The Stokes V contribution function of H and Fei 5324.19 Å are calculated. It is found that our H magnetograms provide the distribution of the chromospheric magnetic field at a height some 1000–1500 km above the photosphere. 相似文献

Photospheric (Fei 5324.19 Å line) and chromospheric (H line) magnetic fields in quiet-Sun regions have been observed in the solar disk center by using the vector video magnetograph at Huairou Solar Observing Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory. Observational results show that the quiet-Sun magnetic elements in the solar photosphere and chromosphere present similar magnetic structures. Photospheric and chromospheric magnetograms show corresponding time variations. This suggests that the magnetic fields in quiet-Sun regions present different 3-D magnetic configurations compared to those in solar active regions. 相似文献

A comparison of vector magnetograms from the marshall space flight center and mees solar observatory

We compare completely independent vector magnetic field measurements from two very different polarimetric instruments. The Marshall Space Flight Center's imaging vector magnetograph is based on a birefringent filter, routinely measuring all four Stokes parameters integrated over the filter bandpass (1/8 Å) which is tunable across the Fei 5250 line in 10 mÅ steps. The Haleakala Stokes Polarimeter of the Mees Solar Observatory (MSO) is based on a spectrometer, routinely measuring all four Stokes parameters of the Fei 6302.5 line simultaneously and then spatially scanning to build up a vector magnetogram. We obtained active region magnetic field data with both the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and MSO systems on five days during June 1985. After interpolating the MSFC vector fields onto the more coarse spatial grid of MSO we make a point-by-point comparison of the two vector fields for data obtained on two of these days (June 8 and 9). From this comparison we conclude: (1) the spatially-averaged line-of-sight components agree quite well; (2) although the MSO spatial grid is coarser, the quality of the MSO image is better than that of the MSFC data because of better seeing conditions; (3) the agreement between the transverse magnitudes is affected by the poor image quality of the MSFC data; and (4) if the effects of Faraday rotation caused by including line-center linear polarization in the method of analysis are taken into account, the azimuths show good agreement within the scatter in the data caused by the averaging process.National Research Council Resident Research Associate. 相似文献

Off-center vector magnetograms which use all three components of the measured field provide the maximum information content from the photospheric field and can provide the most consistent potential field independent of the viewing angle by defining the normal component of the field. The required transformations of the magnetic field vector and the geometric mapping of the observed field in the image plane into the heliographic plane have been described. Here we discuss the total transformation of specific vector magnetograms to detail the problems and procedures that one should be aware of in analyzing observational magnetograms. The effect of the 180-deg ambiguity of the observed transverse field is considered as well as the effect of curvature of the photosphere. Specific results for active regions AR 2684 (23 September, 1980) and AR 4474 (26 April, 1984) from the Marshall Space Flight Center Vector Magnetograph are described which point to the need for the heliographic projection in determining the field structure of an active region. 相似文献

This study investigates the statistical correlation between the power input into the magnetosphere due to reconnection and the subsequent dissipation of this energy in the magnetosphere as measured by the UT parameter (Perreault and Akasofu, 1978). It is found that of the three expressions for this energy input PW, PK (Gonzalez and Gonzalez, 1984) and ε (Perreault and Akasofu, 1975; Kan et al.,1980), PW yields the highest correlation with the energy consumption of the magnetosphere. 相似文献

We present a correlation between radio and broad-line emission for a sample of radio-loud quasars that supports a close link between accretion processes and relativistic jets. BL Lac objects seem to follow the statistical behaviour of quasars, but with fainter broad-line emission. 相似文献

We compared the microwave bursts with short timescale fine structure observed at 2.84 GHZ at Beijing Astronomical Observatory with the hard X-ry bursts (HXB) observed by the YOHKOH satellite during the period 1991 Oct–1992 Dec, and found that of the 20 microwave events, 12 had HXB counterparts. For the typical event of 1992-06-07, we analyzed the common quasi-period oscillations on the order of 102 s and calculated the parameters of the source region, together with a brief discussion. 相似文献

We make a quantitative comparison between spectral vs filter measurement and analysis techniques for extraction of solar vector magnetic fields from polarimetric data using as a basis the accurately calibrated, high angular resolution Stokes profile data from the Advanced Stokes Polarimeter. It is shown that filter-based measurements deliver qualitative images of the field alignment for sunspots that are visually similar to images derived from the more detailed analysis of the Stokes profiles. However, quantitative comparison with least-squares fits to the full Stokes profiles show that both the strength of the field predicted by the filter-based analysis and its orientation contain substantial errors. These errors are largest for plage regions outside of sunspots, where the field strengths are inferred to be only a fraction of their true values, and errors in the orientation of 40–50° are common. Within sunspots, errors of 20° are commonplace. The greatest source of these errors is the inability of the filter-based measurements to account for the small fill fraction of magnetic fields or, equivalently, scattered light in the instrument, which reduce the degree of polarization. The uncertainties of the full profile fitting methods are also discussed, along with the errors introduced by coarser wavelength sampling of the observed Stokes profiles. We relate the equivalent widths of 11 diffuse interstellar bands, measured in the spectra of 49 stars, to different colour excesses in the ultraviolet. We find that most of the observed bands correlate positively with the extinction in the neighbourhood of the 2175-Å bump. Correlation with colour excesses in other parts of the extinction curve is more variable from one diffuse interstellar band to another; we find that some diffuse bands (5797, 5850 and 6376 Å) correlate positively with the overall slope of the extinction curve, while others (5780 and 6284 Å) exhibit negative correlation. We discuss the implications of these results on the links between the diffuse interstellar band carriers and the properties of the interstellar grains. 相似文献

We use a sample of 111 radio galaxies with redshift z 0.3 to investigate their nuclear properties.The black hole masses of the sources in this sample are estimated with the velocity dispersion/luminosity of the galaxies, or the width of the broad-lines. We find that the excitation index, the relative intensity of low and high excitation lines, is correlated with the Eddington ratio for this sample. The size of the narrow-line region(NLR) was found to vary with ionizing luminosity as RNLR∝L_(ion)~(0.25)(Liu et al. 2013). Using this empirical relation, we find that the correlation between the excitation index and the Eddington ratio can be reproduced by photoionization models. We adopt two sets of spectral energy distributions(SEDs), with or without a big blue bump in ultraviolet as the ionizing continuum, and infer that the modeled correlation between the excitation index and the Eddington ratio is insensitive to the applied SED. This means that the difference between high excitation galaxies and low excitation galaxies is not caused by the different accretion modes in these sources. Instead, it may be caused by the size of the NLR. 相似文献
