Cementation of copper from zinc containing copper solutions using metallic zinc was studied in this work. The effect of copper, zinc and ammonium chloride concentration, stirring speed, pH and temperature on the cementation of copper was determined. Cementation rate increased with initial copper concentration, stirring speed and temperature. pH variation from 1 to 4 increased the cementation rate but at higher pH, the rate was not significantly effected. The cementation rate of copper increased with Zn2+ ion concentration. However, the rate of this rise was slightly less compared to the rise that occurred in the Zn2+ ions free copper solution.  相似文献

Nile Rose Plant was used to study adsorption of several cations (Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Pb2+) from wastewater within various experimental conditions. The dried leaves of Nile Rose Plant were used at different adsorbent/ metal ion ratios. The influence of pH, contact time, metal concentration, and adsorbent loading weight on the removal process was investigated. Batch adsorption studies were carried out at room temperature. The adsorption efficiencies were found to be pH dependent, increasing by increasing the pH in the range from 2.5 to 8.5 exept for Pb. The equilibrium time was attained within 60 to 90 min. and the maximum removal percentage was achieved at an adsorbent loading weight of 1.5 g/50 mL mixed ions solution. Isothermal studies showed that the data were best fitted to the Temkin isotherm model. The removal order was found to be Pb2+> Zn2+> Cu2+> Cd2+. The surface IR-characterization of Nile rose plant showed the presence of many functional groups capable of binding to the metal cations.  相似文献

Readily dispersible clay is the part of the clay fraction in soils that potentially disperses in water when a small amount of mechanical energy is applied to soil. Column and batch experiments were conducted to identify the effect of readily dispersible clay on the mobility of some metal ions in a disturbed soil sample. The clay fraction (<0.002 mm) was separated from an alkaline Vertisol from the Nile River Delta. X-ray diffraction technique was used to identify minerals present in the clay fraction. Clay suspensions and deionized H2O solutions of Cd2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ were prepared and used as influents in soil columns. Adsorption capability of the studied soil among the three metal ions was investigated. The results showed high adsorption capacity of Cd2+, Cu2+, but not Zn2+ for the studied soil. Cu2+ was the highest adsorbed metal by soil and its sorption increased at small equilibrium concentrations compared with Cd2+ and Zn2+. For the three studied metal ions, Langmuir model represented the best fit to the adsorption data. The concentration of Zn2+ and Cd2+ in leachates increased as the leaching solution volume increased, while Cu2+ showed a homogeneous distribution throughout the soil column. According to DTPA extractable metals, Zn2+ was appeared at greater depths than Cd2+, while Cu2+ had homogeneous distribution through the soil column.  相似文献

Removal of Lead,Copper, Zinc and Cadmium from Water Using Phosphate Rock   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Removal of Pb^2+, Cu^2+, Zn^2+ and Cd^2+ from aqueous solutions by sorption on a natural phosphate rock (FAP) was investigated. The effects of the contact time and initial metal concentration were examined in the batch method. The percentage sorption of heavy metals from solution ranges generally between 50% and 99%. The amount of sorbed metal ions follows the order Cu〉Pb〉Cd〉Zn. Heavy metal immobilization was attributed to both surface complexation of metal ions on the surface of FAP grains and partial dissolution and precipitation of a heavy metal-containing phosphate. The very low desorption ratio of heavy metals further supports the effectiveness of FAP as an alternative and low-cost material to remove toxic Pb^2+, Cu^2+, Zn^2+ and Cd^2+ from polluted waters.  相似文献

Adsorption of divalent metal ions, including Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+, on quartz surface was measured as a function of metal ion concentration at 30°C under conditions of solution pH= 6. 5 and ion strength I = 0. 1mol/L. Results of the experimental measurements can be described very well by adsorption isotherm equations of Freudlich. The correlation coefficients (r) of adsorption isotherm lines are > 0. 96. Moreover, the experimental data were interpreted on the basis of surface complexation model. The experimental results showed that the monodentate-coordinated metal ion surface complex species (SOM+) are predominant over the bidentate-coordinated metal ion surface complex species [(SO)2M] formed only by the ions Cu2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+. And the relevant apparent surface complexation constants are lgKM = 2.2–3.3 in order of KCd≥KPb > KZn > KNi≥KCu, and lgβM = 5.9-6.8 in order of βNi > βZn > βCu. Therefore, the reactive ability of the ions onto mineral surface of quartz follows the order of Cd > Pb > Zn > Ni> Cu under the above-mentioned solution conditions. The apparent surface complexation constants, influenced by the surface potential, surface species and hydrolysis of metal ions, depend mainly on the Born solvation coefficient of the metal ions. The application of organic-rich lake sediment (gyttja) to exploration geochemistry is discussed. Gyttja was collected from some 42 lake sites in the Red Lake-Uchi Lake volcanic-sedimentary sequences. The existance of free sulphide ion in most gyttja is confirmed and theoretical calculations are used to define the approximate concentrations of sulphide ion which determine whether the accumulation of Cu+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Fe2+ is by metal sulphide precipitation, organic complexing or both. These calculations show that in the sediments collected in this study, the accumulation of copper will probably be by metal sulphide formation, whereas for zinc, organic complexing and possibly sulphide precipitation are likely mechanisms. It is shown that the background concentrations of copper and zinc on a dry matter basis increase with the content of organic matter in the sediment and it is further shown that the quantity of interstitial water in the sediment increases linearly with the organic content. Also it is demonstrated that the organic matter in the sediment is dispersed in the interstitial water in approximately the same concentration irrespective of the sediment composition. On the assumption that copper sulphide colloids are dispersed in the interstitial water of the sediment, it is suggested that the copper content of gyttja should be expressed as μg/g interstitial water for meaningful interpretation. Similarly, the zinc content should be expressed relative to the organic matter content. The ability of reagents to selectively extract only chemically dispersed metals and not silicate lattice metals from gyttja is discussed. Both the analytical procedures and the interpretations are applied to the samples collected.  相似文献

In this study, the speciation of Zn2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ ions sorbed at the calcite surface was monitored during a 2.5-year reaction period, using extended X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize metal speciation on the molecular scale. Experiments were performed using pre-equilibrated calcite-water suspensions of pH 8.3, at metal concentrations below the solubility of metal hydroxide and carbonate precipitates, and at constant metal surface loadings. The EXAFS results indicate that all three metals remained coordinated at the calcite surface as inner-sphere adsorption complexes during the 2.5-year ageing period, with no evidence to suggest slow formation of dilute metal-calcite solid solutions under the reaction conditions employed. All three divalent metals were found to form non-octahedral complexes upon coordination to the calcite surface, with Zn2+ adsorbing as a tetrahedral complex, Cu2+ as a Jahn-Teller distorted octahedral complex, and Pb2+ coordinating as a trigonal- or square-pyramidal surface complex. The non-octahedral configurations of these surface complexes may have hindered metal transfer from the calcite surface into the bulk, where Ca2+ is in octahedral coordination with respect to first-shell O. The use of pre-equilibrated calcite suspensions, with no net calcite dissolution or precipitation, likely prevented metal incorporation into the lattice as a result of surface recrystallization. The results from this study imply that ageing alone does not increase the stability of Zn2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ partitioning to calcite if equilibrium with the solution is maintained during reaction; under these conditions, these metals are likely to remain available for exchange even after extended sorption times.  相似文献

Unfertilizable fruiting buds of mango plant Mangifera Indica L, an agrowaste, is used as a biomass in this study. The efficacy of the biosorbent was tested for the removal of lead, copper, zinc and nickel metal ions using batch experiments in single and binary metal solution under controlled experimental conditions. It is found that metal sorption increases when the equilibrium metal concentration rises. At highest experimental solution concentration used (150 mg/L), the removal of metal ions were 82.76 % for lead, 76.60 % for copper, 63.35 % for zinc and 59.35 % for nickel while at lowest experimental solution concentration (25 mg/L), the removal of metal ions were 92.00% for lead, 86.84 % for copper, 83.96 % for zinc and 82.29 % for nickel. Biosorption equilibrium isotherms were plotted for metal uptake capacity (q) against residual metal concentrations (Cf) in solution. The q versus Cf sorption isotherm relationship was mathematically expressed by Langmuir and Freundlich models. The values of separation factor were between zero and one indicating favourable sorption for four tested metals on the biosorbent. The surface coverage values were approaching unity with increasing solution concentration indicating effectiveness of biosorbent under investigation. The non-living biomass of Mangifera indica L present comparable biosorption capacity for lead, copper, zinc and nickel metal ions with other types of biosorbent materials found in literature and is effective to remove metal ions from single metal solutions as well as in the presence of other co-ions with the main metal of solution.  相似文献

The effects of varying operating conditions on metals removal from aqueous solution using a novel nano-size composite adsorbent are reported in this paper. Characterization of the composite adsorbent material showed successful production of carbon nanotubes on granular activated carbon using 1 % nickel as catalyst. In the laboratory adsorption experiment, initial mixed metals concentration of 2.0 mg/L Cu2+, 1.5 mg/L Pb2+ and 0.8 mg/L Ni2+ were synthesized based on metals concentration from samples collected from a semiconductor industry effluent. The effects of operation conditions on metals removal using composite adsorbent were investigated. Experimental conditions resulting in optimal metals adsorption were observed at pH 5, 1 g/L dosage and 60 min contact time. It was noted that the percentage of metals removal at the equilibrium condition varied for each metal, with lead recording 99 %, copper 61 % and nickel 20 %, giving metal affinity trend of Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Ni2+ on the adsorbent. Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm model gave a higher R2 value of 0.93, 0.89 and 0.986 for copper, nickel and lead, respectively, over that of Freundlich model during the adsorption process of the three metals in matrix solution.  相似文献

The impacts of common ions on the adsorption of heavy metal   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Researches on the impact of common ions onto sediments are of great importance for the study of the heavy metal adsorption mechanisms. Considering the surface sediments from the relatively clean reach in the Baotou section of the Yellow River as the adsorbent, this work presents the impacts of common ions (Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, Cl, SO4 2−, and NH4 +) on heavy metals (Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+) adsorption. The experimental results reveal that the adsorptive capacities of the heavy metals are controlled by different adsorption mechanisms in different ion concentration ranges. With the increase of the ionic strength, the adsorption of the heavy metals increases for the compression of the electric double layer, whereas decreases for the decreasing of the ionic activities of the heavy metals. The competitive adsorption and complexations between the heavy metals and common ions are also important factors controlling the heavy metal adsorption. According to the experimental results and the real concentration of common ions in the Baotou section of the Yellow River, the increase of the concentrations of Na+, Mg2+, K+, and Ca2+ would cause the increase of Zn2+ adsorption and reduce the Zn pollution. The NH4 + from the industrial discharge of the tributaries has a strong impact on the heavy metal adsorption.  相似文献

Biosorption is a promising technology for the removal of heavy metals from industrial wastes and effluents. In the present study, biosorption of Pb2+, Cu2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+ onto the dried biomass of Eucheuma denticulatum (Rhodophyte) was investigated as a function of solution pH, contact time, temperature and initial metal ion concentration. The experimental data were evaluated by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models. The sorption isotherm data followed Langmuir and Freundlich models, and the maximum Langmuir monolayer biosorption capacity was found as 81.97, 66.23, 51.02 and 43.48 mg g?1 for Pb2+, Cu2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+, respectively. The sorption kinetic data followed pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models. Thermodynamic study revealed feasible, spontaneous and endothermic nature of the sorption process. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed the presence of amine, aliphatic, carboxylate, carboxyl, sulfonate and ether groups in the cell wall matrix involved in metal biosorption process. A total of nine error functions were applied in order to evaluate the best-fitting models. We strongly suggest the analysis of error functions for evaluating the fitness of the isotherm and kinetic models. The present work shows that E. denticulatum can be a promising low-cost biosorbent for removal of the experimental heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Further study is warranted to evaluate its potential for the removal of heavy metals from the real environment.  相似文献

The adsorption of copper and cobalt from aqueous solution on to illite and other substrates has been studied as a function of pH, solution composition and solid phase concentration. The results are interpreted in terms of a model whereby the trace metals are adsorbed in exchange for surface bound H+ ions. Adsorption varies with solution ionic strength and the concentrations of complex forming ligands; both of these parameters tend to reduce the trace metal adsorption. The Cu2+ is two orders of magnitude more reactive toward solid surfaces than Co2+ , which is consistent with the general reactivities of these two metal ions. It is also found that Mg2+ interferes with adsorption, presumably by competing with the trace metals for the surface sites. A quantitative model was developed which describes adsorption of these metals from natural waters ranging from river water to sea water as a function of pH, complexing ligands and magnesium activity.  相似文献

This paper investigates the potential of alginate-immobilised Chlorella sorokiniana for removing Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions from drinking water solutions. The effects of initial metal concentrations, contact times and temperatures on the biosorptions and removal efficiencies of the tested metals were investigated at initial pH values of 5, and pH effects were studied within the range of 3–7. When studying the effects of initial metal concentrations, the highest experimental removal yields achieved for Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions were 97.10, 50.94 and 64.61 %, respectively. The maximum biosorption capacities obtained by the Langmuir isotherm model for the biosorptions of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions by alginate-immobilised C. sorokiniana were found to be 179.90, 86.49 and 164.50 mg/g biosorbent, respectively. The experimental data followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. At an initial metal concentration of 25 mg/L, immobilised algae could be used in at least 5 successive biosorption–desorption cycles. SEM and EDS analyses revealed that the metals bonded to the biosorbent. Bi- and multi-metal systems of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ were investigated at initial metal concentrations of 30, 50 and 100 mg/L. The removal of Cd2+ as well as Ni2+ in such systems was negatively affected by the presence of Cu2+. The removal efficiency for Cu2+ in multi-metal systems decreased by 5–7 %, whilst in the cases of Cd2+ and Ni2+ the efficiencies decreased by up to 30 %. Nevertheless, the results obtained show that alginate-immobilised C. sorokiniana can efficiently remove the metals tested from polluted drinking water sources.  相似文献

Peganum harmala seeds were assessed as biosorbent for removing Pb2+, Zn2+and Cd2+ ions from aqueous solutions. The effects of various parameters such as the aqueous solution pH, the contact time, the initial metal concentration and the amount of adsorbent in the process were investigated. The adsorption efficiencies increased with pH. It was found that about 95 % of lead, 75 % of zinc and 90 % of cadmium ions could be removed from 45 ml of aqueous solution containing 20 mg l?1 of each cation with 2 g of adsorbent at pH 4.5 after 15 min. The quantitative desorption of cadmium from adsorbent surface was achieved using 10 ml of a 0.5 M nitric acid solution. This condition was attained for lead and zinc ions with 10 ml of 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. Kinetic investigation of the process was performed by considering a pseudo-second-order model. This model predicts the chemisorption mechanism of the process. Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich models were tested for describing the equilibrium data. It was found that the Freundlich model describes the experimental data resulting from the adsorption of lead ions. However for cadmium and zinc ions, the adsorption equilibria were interpreted with the Langmuir model.  相似文献

Granular activated carbon produced from palm kernel shell was used as adsorbent to remove copper, nickel and lead ions from a synthesized industrial wastewater.Laboratory experimental investigation was carried out to identify the effect of pH and contact time on adsorption of lead, copper and nickel from the mixed metals solution. Equilibrium adsorption experiments at ambient room temperature were carried out and fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich models. Results showed that pH 5 was the most suitable, while the maximum adsorbent capacity was at a dosage of 1 g/L, recording a sorption capacity of 1.337 mg/g for lead, 1.581 mg/g for copper and 0.130 mg/g for nickel. The percentage metal removal approached equilibrium within 30 min for lead, 75 min for copper and nickel, with lead recording 100 %, copper 97 % and nickel 55 % removal, having a trend of Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Ni2+. Langmuir model had higher R2 values of 0.977, 0.817 and 0.978 for copper, nickel and lead respectively, which fitted the equilibrium adsorption process more than Freundlich model for the three metals.  相似文献

A binary mixture of humic acid and geothite was prepared and used to modify kaolinite to produce geothite–humic acid (GHA)-modified kaolinite adsorbent useful for the adsorption of Pb2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ from Single and Quinary (5) metal ion systems. The cation exchange capacity (CEC) and specific surface area of GHA-modified kaolinite clay adsorbent were found to be 40 meq/100 g and 13 m2/g, respectively, with the CEC being five times that of raw kaolinite clay (7.81 meq/100 g). The Langmuir–Freundlich equilibrium isotherm model gave better fit to experimental data as compared with other isotherm models. In Quinary metal ion system, the presence of Zn2+ and Cu2+ appears to have an antagonistic effect on the adsorption of Pb2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+, while the presence of Pb2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+ shows a synergistic effect on the adsorption of Zn2+ and Cu2+. The GHA-modified kaolinite showed strong preference for the adsorption of Pb2+ in both metal ion systems. Brouers–Weron–Sotolongo (BWS) kinetic model gave better fit to kinetic data compared with other kinetic models used. Data from BWS kinetic model indicate that adsorption of metal ions onto GHA-modified adsorbent in both metal ion systems followed strictly, diffusion-controlled mechanism with adsorption reaction proceeding to 50 % equilibrium in <2 min in the Single metal ion system and <1 min in the Quinary metal ion system. Adsorption of metal ions onto GHA-modified kaolinite is fairly spontaneous and endothermic in nature in both metal ion systems although the rate of metal ion uptake and spontaneity of reaction are reduced in the Quinary metal ion system.  相似文献

The investigation of the Cu2+ uptake by the calcium carbonate minerals vaterite and calcite with continuous wave and pulse electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) yields information on a molecular scale about the relevant complexation reactions at the mineral–water interface. The structural assignment is based on changes in the coordination geometry of the copper complexes. Magnetic interactions of the unpaired Cu2+ electron with nuclei of 13C-labeled carbonate ligands and protons from water or hydroxyl ligands in the first and second coordination spheres of the cation are detected by pulse EPR techniques. Our results show that the Cu2+ ions are rapidly dehydrated upon adsorption on the mineral surface. The strong surface binding is due to monodentate coordination to three or four carbonate surface ions, comparable to chelate complexation in solution. The formation of square-planar or square-pyramidal copper complexes at exposed surface sites like kinks and steps yields a convincing explanation for the inhibition of calcium carbonate growth and dissolution. Upon recrystallization the Cu2+ ions are integrated into the calcite lattice where they exhibit a dynamic Jahn–Teller effect. The resulting local lattice distortions are expected to destabilize the CuxCa(1−x)CO3(s) solid solution. Our results support the concept of a dynamic calcium carbonate surface, covered by a thin, structured surface layer. The detailed structural information obtained for Cu2+ provides a better understanding of the interaction of other metal ions with calcium carbonate minerals.  相似文献

At present, there is growing interest in using low cost, commercially available materials for the adsorption of heavy metals. The major advantages of adsorption technologies are its effectiveness in reducing the concentration of heavy metal ions to very low levels and the use of inexpensive adsorbent materials. In this review, agricultural and forest waste adsorbents were used to remove Pb2+ ions in wastewater treatment, and their technical feasibilities were reviewed in studies mainly from 2000 to 2010. They all were compared with each other by metal binding capacities, metal removal performances, sorbent dose, optimum pH, temperature, initial concentration and contact time. Although commercial activated carbon is widely used in wastewater treatment applications, it has high costs. The use of agricultural by-products as adsorbent material to purify heavy metal contaminated water has become increasingly popular through the past decade because they are less expensive, biodegradable, abundant and efficient. Instead of activated carbon, this study was focused on the inexpensive materials such as agricultural and forest waste. It was shown that these alternative adsorbents had sufficient binding capacity to remove Pb2+ ions from wastewater.  相似文献

The adsorption of copper ions on synthetic sphalerites of various iron contents was measured using a radiotracer technique. The correlation of Cu2+ ions adsorption with the pH of solution, the iron content of the solid and the degree of surface oxidation of synthetic sphalerite were determined. The experiments proved that oxidation of the surface of the sphalerite samples caused a decrease in Cu2+ ions sorption with the exception of samples of iron containing sphalerite. Acidity of the solution affected the adsorption of Cu2+ ions by deoxidized sphalerite surfaces, whereas the adsorption on oxidized surfaces did not depend on the pH.  相似文献

Homogenized samples of raw clays resulting from two (2) different lots of natural clays from Maghnia (Algeria) have been assessed for their potential use in the removal of Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions from industrial liquid wastes (LW). Raw and acid-activated samples have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and used as adsorbents for the removal of Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions from aqueous system using adsorption method under different conditions. The effect of factors including contact time, pH, and dosage on the adsorption properties of Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions onto clays was investigated at 25 °C. The obtained results revealed that the removal percentages of Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions, from both aqueous solution (AS) and LW, were varying between 90 and 98% for 40 min and optimal pH values ranged from 5 to 6 for Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions, respectively. The kinetics of both Pb2+ and Zn2+ ion adsorption fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin adsorption isotherms were used, and their constants were evaluated. The values of thermodynamic parameters, ΔH°, ΔS°, and ΔG° indicated that the adsorption of Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions was spontaneous and exothermic process in nature. The adsorption and desorption isotherms indicated that Pb2+ and Zn2+ adsorption to raw clays was reversible. The experimental results obtained showed that the raw clays from Maghnia (Algeria) had a great potential for removing Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions from industrial liquid wastes using adsorption method.  相似文献
