We have looked for periodicities in solar differential rotation on time scales shorter than the 11-year solar cycle through the power- spectrum analysis of the differential rotation parameters determined from Mt. Wilson velocity data (1969–1994) and Greenwich sunspot group data (1879–1976). We represent the differential rotation by a set of Gegenbauer polynomials (()= + (5sin2–1)+ (21sin4–14sin2+1)). For the Mt. Wilson data, we focus on observations obtained after 1981 due to the reduced instrumental noise and have binned the data into intervals of 19 days. We calculated annual averages for the sunspot data to reduce the uncertainty and corrected for outliers occuring during solar cycle minima. The power spectrum of the photospheric mean rotation , determined from the velocity data during 1982–1994, shows peaks at the periods of 6.7–4.4 yr, 2.2 ± 0.4 yr, 1.2 ± 0.2 yr, and 243 ± 10 day with 99.9% confidence level, which are similar to periods found in other indicators of solar activity suggesting that they are of solar origin. However, this result has to be confirmed with other techniques and longer data sets. The 11-yr periodicity is insignificant or absent in . The power spectra of the differential rotation parameters and , determined from the same subset, show only the solar cycle period with a 99.9% confidence level.The time series of determined from the yearly sunspot group data obtained during 1879–1976 is very similar to the corresponding time series of . After correcting for data with large error bars (occurring during cycle minima), we find periods, which are most likely harmonics of the solar cycle, such as 18.3 ± 3.0 yr and 7.5 ± 0.5 yr in and confirmed these and the 3.0 ± 0.1 yr period in . The original time series show in addition some shorter periods, absent in the corrected data, representing temporal variations during cycle minimum. Given their large error bars, it is uncertain whether they represent a solar variation or not. The results presented here show considerable differences in the periodicities of and determined from the velocity data and the spot group data. These differences may be explained by assuming that the rotation rates determined from velocity and sunspot data represent the rotation rates of the Sun's surface layers and of somewhat deeper layers.  相似文献

In a two-component cycle, the generation of the dipole field by a separate mechanism as well as the strong link occurring, with a 5–6-yr delay, between the sunspot cycle and the preceding dipole cycle, sets in new terms the problem of the mechanisms at the origin of the solar cycle. In this paper, from various series of synoptic solar data, we identify some of the mechanisms to incorporate in a model of a two-component solar cycle. The first one concerns the dipole field which is not a surface phenomenon. We establish the cyclic behaviour and the various properties of the dipole-field sources which are deep-seated in the solar interior and have a rigid rotation of about 27 days. We identify two cyclic phenomena which, in each hemisphere, link with a 5–6-yr delay, the dipole field generation which occurs at high latitudes, to the bipolar field emergence occurring at sunspot latitudes. They are the signatures of a coupling mechanism taking place deep in the solar interior. Then we study the constraints imposed on the mechanisms of the sunspot field generation both by a two-component cycle and by new observational results. These last ones concern the links occurring between the birth of new sunspot groups and the occurrence of pre-existing features of the photospheric field and of pivot-points in rigid rotation at 27.3 days.Our final discussion is devoted to a first sketch of the distribution of the relevant mechanisms among separate regions of the convective zone. Unfortunately neither the helioseismology, nor our data analysis has yet supplied us with appropriate pieces of information for building a physical model of this two-component cycle.  相似文献

A spectral analysis of the time series of daily values of 12 parameters, namely, ten solar radio emissions in the range 275–1755 MHz, 2800 MHz solar radio flux, and sunspot numbers for six continuous intervals of 132 values each during June 1997–July 1999 showed considerable differences from one interval to the next, indicating a nonstationary nature. A 27-day periodicity was noticed in Interval 2 (26.8 days), 3 (27.0 days), 5 (25.5 days), 6 (27.0 days). Other periodicities were near 11.4, 12.3, 13.3, 14.5, 15.5, 16.5, 35, 40, 50–70 days. Periodicities were very similar in a large vertical span of the coronal region corresponding to 670–1755 MHz. Above this region, the homogeneity disappeared. Below this region, there were complications and distortions due to localized solar surface phenomena.  相似文献

The Earth tidal deformation causes an additional gravitational potential. Its effect on the Moon orbital motion has been studied by several authors.In this contribution, we develop this additional potential without specifying the inertial frame chosen.For this purpose, we use the properties of the representation of rotation groups in 3 dimensions space. It is shown that major geomagnetic storms (¦Dst¦ > 100) tend to develop at about the time of the passage of the solar current sheet or disk at the location of the Earth, provided this passage is associated with (1) a large impulsive increase of the IMF magnitude B, (2) a negative value of the IMF angle (Theta), and (3) an increasing solar wind speed. The passage occurs in association with the 27-day rotation of the warped current disk or a temporal up-down movement of the latter. The period in which ¦Dst¦/t< 0 during major storms coincides approximately with the period when the solar windmagnetosphere energy coupling function becomes 1019 erg s–1. These conclusions do not depend on the phase of the sunspot cycle.These results may be interpreted as follows: A high speed solar wind flow, originating either from flare regions or coronal holes, tends to push the solar current disk to move upward or downward for either a brief period (1 3 days) or an extended period (2 weeks). A relatively thin region of a large IMF B > 10 is often present near the moving current disk. Waves are also generated on the moving current disk, and some of them cause large changes of . A high value of is found in the region of a large IMF B near the wavy solar current disk, where has a large negative value.  相似文献

The synthetic Voigt profile of the following transitions (v=0,v=0), (v=0,v=1), (v=1,v=1), (v=1,v=0) have been computed for different concentrations and temperatures of CO and compaed to the measured intensities of the UV sunspot spectrum by a high resolution spectrograph. The autocorrelation coefficients of the daily Wolf sunspot numbers over a period of 128 years reveal a number of interesting features of the variability of solar activity. In addition to establishing periodicities for the solar rotation, the solar activity cycle, and perhaps the Gleissberg Cycle, they suggest that active longitudes do exist, but with much greater strength and persistence in some solar cycles than in others. There is evidence for a variation in the solar rotation period, as measured by sunspot number, of as much as two days between different solar cycles.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Doppler dimming of the Ovi resonance lines (1032 Å, 1037 Å) in an expanding corona is calculated including the pumping effect on the Ovi 1037.61 Å of both Cii lines at 1036.34 Å and 1037.02 Å, and the effect of the width of the absorption profiles of the coronal oxygen ions along the incident radiation. The pumping effect of the Cii line at 1036.34 Å allows us to extend to approximately 450 km s–1 the measurement of solar wind velocities with the Ovi line ratio technique. Since the emissivity ratio of the Ovi doublet depends on the width of the oxygen coronal absorbing profiles, this ratio can provide an accurate measurement of the solar wind velocity in the case that the width of the absorbing profile along the direction of the incident radiation is independently determined. However, if on the one hand the ratio of the emissivities of the Ovi doublet has limitations in probing the wind velocity, on the other hand it can be used as a diagnostics for inferring the velocity distribution of the coronal Ovi ions along the radial, and detecting possible velocity anisotropies. This diagnostics, applied to recent observational results, allows us to infer that the velocity distribution of the oxygen ions is much broader in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, and that the acceleration of the fast solar wind in the first 2 solar radii is high.  相似文献

A strong inverse correlation is shown between the irradiance dips observed by the SMM/ACRIM radiometer and the projected areas of the active sunspots. This strong correlation and the results of a preliminary time series analysis indicate that the value of the solar constant decreased when quickly developing sunspot groups with complex structure occurred on the solar disk. On the other hand, when the old groups with simple structure were dominant the value of the solar constant increased slightly or these groups could reduce the effects of the active spots. On the basis of our investigations it seems that the formation of the sunspots and the new activity of the older ones as well as the decreases of the solar constant may be the common symptoms of such a physical process which takes place in deeper regions of the Sun through the interaction of magnetic fields with the convection.  相似文献

We report here on high angular resolution observations of solar noise storm sources at a frequency of 75 MHz. The data for the study were obtained at the Gauribidanur Radio Observatory (long.: 77°2612 E, lat.: 13°3612 N) about 100 km north of Bangalore, India, during the solar eclipse of 24 October 1995. Our main conclusion is that there are structures of angular size 2.5 arc min in the outer solar corona.  相似文献

The Schatten and Sofia (1987) dynamo theory prediction for the amplitude of smoothed annual sunspot number in the present solar cycle, No. 22, of 170 ± 25 was predicted to peak in 1990 ± 1 year. This peak was earlier and larger than most other estimates made in early 1987. New observational evidence shows sunspot values rising very rapidly, generally supporting the exceptionally large cycle predicted, however, solar cycle 22 appears even more exceptional than expected, in that the early cycle rise has exceeded all previous cycle increases. We use a Spörer butterfly method to examine solar cycle 22. We show from the latitude of active regions, that the cycle can now be expected to peak near November 1989 ±8 months, basically near the latter half of 1989.This paper was presented at the third meeting of the Solar Cycle Workshop, held in Sydney, Australia, January 9–13, 1989.  相似文献

Two peculiarities of the magnetic splitting of lines in sunspot spectra have been investigated. The first one consists of the fact that in a rather small region of the penumbra, near the umbrapenumbra boundary, the -component is absent in the spectra of one circular polarization while both -components are present. In the spectra of the opposite circular polarization, the -components are absent but the -component is present. By analogy with the magnetic stars, in whose spectra such an effect was observed by Babcock, this phenomenon was called by us the crossover effect in the sunspot spectra. Some properties of this effect in the different spectral lines were investigated. The nature of this effect is discussed.The second peculiarity consists of the anomalous splitting of the -component of Zeeman triplets which are of the same and opposite signs in comparison with splitting of the -components. The motion of a heavy inextensible flexible string attached to the satellite in the central gravitational field is discussed. It is supposed that the mass of the string is infinitesimally small compared to the mass of the satellite and hence it does not affect the latter's motion. Under the assumption that the satellite moves along the Keplerian elliptical orbit (in particular circular orbit), the relative motion of the string is investigated. It has been shown that the motion of the flexible string is unstable which is stable in the case of a solidified string.

The applicability of the properties of central configurations proceeding from the many-body problem to study of gaseous sphere cloud evolution during its gravitational contraction is justified. It is shown that the product runs to a constant value in the asymptotic time limit of simultaneous collision of all the particles of the cloud where is a form-factor of the potential energy and is a form-factor of the moment of inertia.The spherical bodies as well as ellipsoids of rotation and general ellipsoids with a one-dimensional mass distribution (k),k[0, 1] are found to possess the property =const.

The CCD spectroheliograph-magnetograph is a focal-plane ancillary instrument for the Pulkovo horizontal solar telescope ACU-5. The instrument is placed at an exit port of an isothermal high-resolution diffraction-grating spectrograph. A modified Leighton optical scheme for registration of sunspot magnetic fields is used. The instrument provides FITS-format digital video maps of radial velocities, magnetic fields, and spectroheliograms in any line of the spectral region 3900–11000 Å. The time to obtain one video map of size 91×154 is equal to 10.24 s. The angular resolution of the instrument is 0.8; spectral resolution is 0.01–0.03 Å. Since 1996 the Pulkovo CCD spectroheliograph-magnetograph has been used to obtain high spatial and temporal resolution observations of oscillations of radial velocities and magnetic fields in the photospheric layers of sunspots.  相似文献

The location and the stability of the libration points in the restricted problem have been studied when small perturbation and are given to the Coriolis and the centrifugal forces respectively. It is seen that the pointsL 4 andL 5 form nearly equilateral triangles with the primaries and the pointsL 1,L 2,L 3 remain collinear. It is further observed that for the pointsL 4 andL 5, the range of stability increases or decreases depending upon whether the point (, ) lies in one or the other of the two parts in which the (, ) plane is divided by the line 36-19=0 and the stability of the collinear points is not influenced by the perturbations and they remain unstable.  相似文献

Some particular solutions of the restricted three-body problem which determine outgoing or incoming orbits near libration points are considered. The solutions are obtained in the form of absolutely convergent Liapounov series. It is proved that these asymptotic solutions are plane curves situated in the orbital plane of the primaries. Each family of asymptotic solutions for every collinear point consists of four solutions which are the separatrices of a saddle point. The angles of inclination of the separatrices are determined.
