Recent inversions of electrical profiles of the upper mantle beneath the oceans permit a variety of conductivity-depth profiles ranging from models with monotonically increasing conductivity to layered models having decreases of conductivity with depth. Laboratory data on possible mantle materials can physically explain high mantle conductivities in terms of a fluid phase (partial melt, hydrous fluid) or a good solid conductor (amorphous or graphitic carbon) and favor a profile having a high conductivity layer (HCL) underlain by a more resistive layer. 相似文献

The data of borehole geoacoustic and electromagnetic measurements in Kamchatka are compared with the results of laboratory
and field experiments on electromagnetic excitation of rocks. A noticeable similarity in the responses of the natural geological
medium and rock specimens is observed. The field experiments with controlled electromagnetic sources show that the geophones
placed in boreholes are capable of reliably detecting the responses of rocks in situ to electric impacts as low as 0.5 mV/m.
The obtained results provide the experimental evidence in favor of the previously proposed hypothesis of modulation of geoacoustic

Summary An instrument for the measurement of the magnetic susceptibility of rocks in situ or in the laboratory has been described. The instrument is a completely portable and transistorised unit having a range from 5 to 50000×10–6 CGS units of volume susceptibility. The accuracy of measurements is ±5%. Summary The anisotropy of the Cs137 gamma-ray absorption coefficient has been investigated in layered models and several rock samples. It was found that in contrast to other petrophysical parameters the gamma-ray absorption coefficient
is characterized by a relatively small coefficient of anisotropy (3–5%). Therefore, the possible effect of the anisotropy can be neglected in the measurements of for rocks as it is usually below current observational errors. 相似文献

In this paper the method for estimating the statistical parameters of the medium from traveltime measurements of refracted
waves is applied to study the statistical characteristics of crystalline rocks at the Multifunctional Station Faido (Gotthard
Base Tunnel, Switzerland). The method is based on the geometrical optics (GO) approximation. A covariance function for traveltime
fluctuations has been obtained by considering quasihomogeneous fluctuations of sound velocity in a plain-stratified medium.
Strongly anisometric (having unequal dimensions in different directions) random inhomogeneities were embedded in this medium.
To estimate the statistical parameters around the tunnel, the traveltime fluctuations are calculated. It is assumed that each
observation of traveltime-distance relation for a given shot-receiver group corresponds to a particular realization of a medium
statistical ensemble. By calculating the variance and the zero cross intervals of the first derivative of traveltime fluctuations,
the standard deviation of the velocity fluctuations and the characteristic horizontal scale of the inhomogeneities are estimated.
Although the method allows to obtain the characteristic lengths of the inhomogeneities in vertical as well as in horizontal
direction, the limited offset of the field data made it only possible to measure the latter. The estimated horizontal characteristic
scale is about 13 m, which is reasonably close to the direct geological measurements in the studied region, where quartz lenses
are dominant among the inhomogeneities. The standard deviation of the velocity is estimated as 4.5%, which might be caused
by the fractured structure around the tunnel and also by the fault zone near the study area. 相似文献

Comparison of methods for estimating earth resistivity from airborne electromagnetic measurements 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Earth resistivity estimates from frequency domain airborne electromagnetic data can vary over more than two orders of magnitude depending on the half-space estimation method used. Lookup tables are fast methods for estimating half-space resistivities, and can be based on in-phase and quadrature measurements for a specified frequency, or on quadrature and sensor height. Inverse methods are slower, but allow sensor height to be incorporated more directly. Extreme topographic relief can affect estimates from each of the methods, particularly if the portion of the line over the topographic feature is not at a constant height above ground level. Quadrature–sensor height lookup table estimates are generally too low over narrow valleys. The other methods are also affected, but behave less predictably. Over very good conductors, quadrature–sensor height tables can yield resistivity estimates that are too high. In-phase–quadrature tables and inverse methods yield resistivity estimates that are too high when the earth has high magnetic susceptibility, whereas quadrature–sensor height methods are unaffected. However, it is possible to incorporate magnetic susceptibility into the in-phase–quadrature lookup table. In-phase–quadrature lookup tables can give different results according to whether the tables are ordered according to the in-phase component or the quadrature component. The rules for handling negative in-phase measurements are particularly critical. Although resistivity maps produced from the different methods tend to be similar, details can vary considerably, calling into question the ability to make detailed interpretations based on half-space models. 相似文献

A laboratory sensor has now been developed to measure the absolute thickness of oil on water slicks. This prototype oil slick thickness measurement system is known as the laser-ultrasonic remote sensing of oil thickness (LURSOT) sensor. This laser opto-acoustic sensor is the initial step in the ultimate goal of providing an airborne sensor with the ability to remotely measure oil-on-water slick thickness. The LURSOT sensor employs three lasers to produce and measure the time-of-flight of ultrasonic waves in oil and hence provide a direct measurement of oil slick thickness. The successful application of this technology to the measurement of oil slick thickness will benefit the scientific community as a whole by providing information about the dynamics of oil slick spreading and the spill responder by providing a measurement of the effectiveness of spill countermeasures such as dispersant application and in situ burning.

Power lines carrying DC current can strongly affect total magnetic-field measurements. A simple algorithm using Biot–Savart's law was made to remove magnetic-field components due to a DC power line from airborne total magnetic-field measurements in the Gävle area, Sweden. The power-line location was estimated from observed data and then split into short line segments. The magnetic-field components due to each segment were calculated and summed together to give the total magnetic effect due to the power line at each observation point. The corrected total magnetic field was calculated by subtracting the power-line magnetic-field vector, projected on to the direction of the main field, from the measured total field. The results show a successful removal of the power-line magnetic effect from the total magnetic-field measurements. However, an error in the estimation of the power-line location can result in a magnetic-field residual after correction. A non-linear median filtering was used to remove this residual when needed. 相似文献

The interpretation of airborne VLF data represents an important aspect of geophysical mapping of the upper few hundred meters of the Earth's crust, especially in areas with crystalline rocks. We have examined the ability of the single frequency VLF method to provide quantitative subsurface resistivity information using two generic models and standard airborne parameters with a flight altitude of 70 m and a frequency of 16 kHz. The models are long thin conductor (10 m thick, 10 Ω m resistivity and 1 km long) and a wider buried conductive dike (100 Ω m resistivity and 500 m wide). Using standard regularized inversion it turned out that for both models the conductivity of the conductors are underestimated and the vertical resolution is rather poor. The lateral positions of the minimum of the resistivity distributions coincide well with the true positions of the shallow conductors. For deeper conductors the position of the minimum resistivity moves from the edges of the conductor into the conductor. The depth to the minimum of the resistivity anomalies correlates well with the true depth to the top of the conductors although the latter is always smaller than the former.Interpretation of field airborne data collected at 70 m flight height resolved both small scale and large scale near surface conductors (conductance ∼1 S). Deeper conductors show up in the VLF data as very long wavelength anomalies that are particularly powerful in delineating the lateral boundaries of the conductors. Many of the VLF anomalies in the Stockholm area are dominated by these deep conductor responses with some near surface conductors superimposed. The deep conductors often follow topographic lows coinciding with metasediments. We interpret the frequent absence of near surface responses at 70 m flight height as a result of weak coupling between the primary VLF wave and the small scale (in all three dimensions) near-surface conductors.Radio magnetotelluric (RMT) ground measurements were carried out along a short profile coinciding with part of an airborne profile. Using data at 9 frequencies (14–250 kHz) small scale conductors in the upper few tens of meters, not identified from the airborne data, could be well resolved. Thermo-mechanical physical modelling of continental subduction is performed to investigate the exhumation of deeply subducted continental crust. The model consists of two lithospheric plates made of new temperature sensitive analogue materials. The lithosphere is underlain by liquid asthenosphere. The continental lithosphere contains three layers: the weak sedimentary layer, the crust made of a stronger material, and of a still stronger lithospheric mantle. The whole model is subjected to a constant vertical thermal gradient, causing the strength reduction with depth in each lithospheric layer. Subduction is driven by both push force and pull force. During subduction, the subducting lithosphere is heating and the strength of its layers reduces. The weakening continental crust reaches maximal depth of about 120 km and cannot subduct deeper because its frontal part starts to flow up. The subducted crust undergoes complex deformation, including indicated upward ductile flow of the most deeply subducted portions and localised failure of the subducted upper crust at about 50-km depth. This failure results in the formation of the first crustal slice which rises up between the plates under the buoyancy force. This process is accompanied by the delamination of the crustal and mantle layers of the subducting lithosphere. The delamination front propagates upwards into the interplate zone resulting in the formation of two other crustal slices that also rise up between the plates. Average equivalent exhumation rate of the crustal material during delamination is about 1 cm/year. The crust-asthenosphere boundary near the interplate zone is uplifted. The subducted mantle layer then breaks off, removing the pull force and thereby stopping the delamination and increasing horizontal compression of the lithosphere. The latter produces shortening of the formed orogen and the growth of relief. The modelling reveals an interesting burial/exhumation evolution of the sedimentary cover. During initial stages of continental subduction the sediments of the continental margin are dragged to the overriding plate base and are partially accreted at the deep part of the interplate zone (at 60-70 km-depth). These sediments remain there until the beginning of delamination during which the pressure between the subducted crust and the overriding plate increases. This results in squeezing the underplated sediments out. Part of them is extruded upwards along the interplate zone to about 30-km depth at an equivalent rate of 5-10 cm/year. 相似文献

Dolines are closed geomorphological depressions which are surface manifestations of karstic systems. Usually developed on limestones, they also typify the morphology of the New Caledonian landscape, particularly on the southern massif of the main island (known as Massif du Sud). The specificity of dolines here lies in their development on ultramafic rocks. They are evidences of subsidence, suffosion and collapse phenomena resulting from dissolution weathering of peridotites. However, extensive underground drainage systems are still not yet recognized. Semi‐automatic mapping of dolines is carried out on a 148 km2 area of the Massif du Sud from a high accuracy LiDAR digital elevation model. In this area 8601 dolines ranging from 1 m2 to 2 km2 are identified and morphologically characterized with precision. Most are small, shallow and round‐shaped, yet more complex shapes are locally observed. Size distribution analysis allows the setting of a threshold of 20 000 m2 above which surface processes rather than chemical weathering control doline evolution. Doline density analysis reveals high concentrations on flat areas where ferricrete overlies the complete weathering profile, especially in the case of elevated rainy watersheds. Dolines are aligned and elongated along a north 135° ± 5° major fracture direction, which is inherited from the obduction of the Pacific Plate upper mantle in the Late Eocene. Finally, we propose a pioneering morphometric typology of dolines that provides important clues as to pseudokarstic activity. We define collapse, bowl‐shaped and flat bottom dolines. Collapse and bowl‐shaped dolines are assumed to denote active pseudokarst. They may widen and deepen, or eventually be filled by sediments. They are distinguished from flat bottom dolines that are partially to completely filled, which suggests that they are associated with paleo‐pseudokarsts. However the groundwater flow paths associated with the genesis and evolution of dolines must be clarified, thus collapse and bowl‐shaped dolines should be hydrologically monitored. Summary An optical processor has been used to filter ground and aeromagnetic or gravimetric maps in order to obtain information on magnetic or causative bodies buried in the ground. This is accomplished by directional filtering in the Fourier spectrum of the magnetic or gravimetric intensity as displayed on a contour map. Despite certain difficulties inherent to the use of contour maps instead of density maps, some promising results were obtained.The great advantage of this optical filtering technique resides in the fact that no digitization (which is a lengthy and expensive process) is required for the analysis. The optical processor used may carry out the Fourier transform of over ten million points almost instantaneously, and at a very low unit cost, because the required optical system is much cheaper and much faster than a digital system. 相似文献

In recent years airborne laser scanning (ALS) evolved into a state‐of‐the‐art technology for topographic data acquisition. We present a novel, automatic method for water surface classification and delineation by combining the geometrical and signal intensity information provided by ALS. The reflection characteristics of water surfaces in the near‐infrared wavelength (1064 nm) of the ALS system along with the surface roughness information provide the basis for the differentiation between water and land areas. Water areas are characterized by a high number of laser shot dropouts and predominant low backscatter energy. In a preprocessing step, the recorded intensities are corrected for spherical loss and atmospheric attenuation, and the locations of laser shot dropouts are modeled. A seeded region growing segmentation, applied to the point cloud and the modeled dropouts, is used to detect potential water regions. Object‐based classification of the resulting segments determines the final separation of water and non‐water points. The water‐land‐boundary is defined by the central contour line of the transition zone between water and land points. We demonstrate that the proposed workflow succeeds for a regulated river (Inn, Austria) with smooth water surface as well as for a pro‐glacial braided river (Hintereisfernerbach, Austria). A multi‐temporal analysis over five years of the pro‐glacial river channel emphasizes the applicability of the developed method for different ALS systems and acquisition settings (e.g. point density). The validation, based on real time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS) field survey and a terrestrial orthophoto, indicate point cloud classification accuracy above 97% with 0·45 m planimetric accuracy (root mean square error) of the water–land boundary. This article shows the capability of ALS data for water surface mapping with a high degree of automation and accuracy. This provides valuable datasets for a number of applications in geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulics, such as monitoring of braided rivers, flood modeling and mapping. Temperatures have been measured in nine boreholes (ranging from 400 to 900 m in depth) in the Jharia Gondwana sedimentary basin of the Indian shield. About two hundred thermal conductivity determinations have been made on core samples from these holes. Temperature profiles, Bullard plots and heat flow profiles of these holes indicate different types of disturbances in the shallow geothermal regime, attributable principally to groundwater movement. Heat flow in the region of the “anticlinal high” is about 0.4 HFU higher than the heat flow in the main synclinal region of the basin. The possible sources for this variation are regional groundwater movement and upwelling of thermal waters through a deep-seated fault/fracture system. The heat flow of 1.9 HFU characterizing the main synclinal region, taken as the regional value for the basin as a whole, has been related to the heat generation of the Precambrian basement rocks. A plot of heat flow vs. heat generation falls in line with three plots for the Precambrian complexes of the Indian shield, indicating the absence of a thermal anomaly due to deeper crustal conditions underneath this basin. 相似文献

我国首套航空重力测量系统(CHAGS)于2002年研制成功.本文设计了CHAGS观测数据的滤波处理流程,着重讨论了比力及各项改正的滤波计算方法,提出了'两步滤波法'.基于某航空重力测量实测数据,对测线重力异常的计算精度作了比较和分析,重复测线计算结果表明,CHAGS确定测线重力异常的内符合精度优于±3mGal,相应的波长分辨率为8km;与地面实测数据向上延拓数值比较表明,对于同样的波长分辨率,外部符合精度优于±4mGal. 相似文献
