Concentrations of arsenic in surface or near-surface sediment in 12 of 13 cores from the three major basins of Loch Lomond are substantially enhanced, up to 675 mg/kg compared with background values of 15–50 mg/kg. Sedimentary As profiles are attributed to post-depositional enrichment processes since there are no recent significant sources of environmental As contamination, anthropogenic or natural, in the Loch Lomond area. The enrichments can be interpreted in terms of post-depositional diagenetic remobilization processes in sediment reducing zones, followed by upward migration of As through interstitial waters and oxidation/adsorption/precipitation reactions in near-surface oxidizing layers. Confirmation of the diagenetic/adsorption hypothesis is provided directly by the analysis of As species (1.5–81 μg/l) in pore water and indirectly via comparison with sedimentary phosphorus.  相似文献

Lake Chalco (99.0°W, 19.5°N) in the Basin of Mexico, was formed during the Pleistocene after the emplacement of the Chichinautzin volcanic field that closed the former drainage system. The lake sediment record has been influenced by a number of factors, including glacial–interglacial cycles, local volcanism, erosion of soils and anthropogenic disturbances. The magnetic properties of the lake sediments and the associated tephra layers of the last 16500 yr have been studied. It is found that the magnetic properties of the Lake Chalco sediments are very distinctive. Magnetic concentration varies by a factor of 1000 and magnetic stability also varies over an extremely wide range. The predominant magnetic mineral is titanomagnetite in addition to an imperfect antiferromagnetic phase, possibly goethite. An unusually large range of coercivities is found in certain of the tephras. Down‐core variations in magnetic properties closely follow climatic/environmental changes previously established by other proxy methods. The late Pleistocene and late Holocene lake sediments display a higher concentration of magnetic minerals than the early–middle Holocene sediments. In the non‐volcanic sediments, fluctuations in the magnetic concentration reflect changes in both the intensity of erosion, as represented by ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic minerals, and by the maturing of soils, as represented by geothite. The geochemical partitioning of ten elements in stratified Holocene sediments from Loch Dee, southwest Scotland, has been established by use of a five-stage sequential extraction procedure. Samples from below 15 cm sediment depth show minimal evidence of modification by anthropogenic contamination or active diagenesis and hold Fe, Mg, Cu, Cd, Co, Pb, and Ni primarily in detrital silicates or organic complexes, while Mn, Ca, and Zn reside largely in adsorbed and reducible oxide phases. In the uppermost ca 15 cm of sediment, enhanced total concentrations of Zn, Cu, and Pb reflect increased atmospheric deposition during the postindustrial period. Of these metals, only Pb displays any notable adjustment of partitioning in the enriched zone, showing disproportionate accumulation in labile oxides and organic-Pb phases. The lack of Pb and Zn carbonates in the contaminated horizon may reflect inherent thermodynamic instability under the acid surface and pore-water conditions of Loch Dee. Increments to total Mn and Co in the surficial ca 5 cm of sediment are attributable to the accumulation of secondary oxides and adsorbed species, consistent with precipitation from the interstitial pore-waters across a sedimentary redox front. The presence of metals such as Zn and Cd in soluble or acid-volatile phases in the interfacial sediment has implications for the future management of the Loch Dee basin, with leaching into the overlying waters likely, given the continuation of current trends of lake acidification.  相似文献

The distribution and Inventories of Pb in the sediments of Loch Tay have been strongly influenced by inputs from past Pb mining activity, as demonstrated by correlation with the characteristic 206Pb/207Ph signature of the Tyndrum ore deposit. A major depositional event, perhaps associated with the cessation of Pb mining in the area, has been dated at 1906–1928 by the 210Pb method. Zinc and Cu have been influenced to a lesser extent by mining, as shown by comparison with inventories in Loch Lomond. Profiles of As, Mn and Fe have been affected by post-depositional diagenetic remobilisation processes. The results serve as a benchmark, with Au mining set to commence at Cononish, near Tyndrum, in 1996.  相似文献

沉积物的磁化率分析以被广泛应用在第四纪古气候研究中,不同类型沉积物磁化率的解释可能存在明显的差异.本文选择了黄土、冲积物、湖积物、风沙堆积和南方红土等五种不同类型的沉积物,进行了磁化率的测试,粒度和孢粉分析,试图通过对沉积物磁化率和相关古环境指标的研究,对不同类型沉积物的磁化率予以对比并进行初步解释.研究结果表明,黄土和湖泊沉积中磁化率的变化主要受气候变化的影响,是指示古气候的重要指标;河流沉积物和风沙沉积物的磁化率主要受粒度的影响;影响南方红土磁化率的因素十分复杂,其磁化率的解释比较困难有待进一步的研究.这一研究表明,鉴于不同沉积物磁化率的影响因素存在明显的不同,因此在运用磁化率进行古环境解释时须持慎重态度.  相似文献

太湖沉积对流域极端降水和洪水响应的研究   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1  
认识极端洪水特征和周期,急需建立长期洪水记录和序列。过去150 a来长江下游极端降水引发了多次太湖特大洪水,太湖湖泊沉积提供了长于观测资料的洪水记录。本文利用太湖中心开阔水域的近现代沉积,采用210Pb和137Cs测年法和粒度、磁学特征分析,与区域夏季降水和长江下游洪峰流量进行相关分析,恢复了太湖流域150 a来的历史洪水事件。根据长江下游极端夏季降水(Pjja≥90%百分位)和极端径流(Q≥90%百分位)以及历史文献记载,太湖流域自1840年以来约有24次特大洪水年,而湖泊沉积物砂级粒径与低频磁化率等特征能捕获与之对应的中洪水事件15次。这表明湖泊沉积记录能较好地反演过去洪水变化,为利用沉积记录认识百年极端洪水长周期变化和特征提供了沉积学、磁学等方面的科学依据。  相似文献

Geomorphological mapping in the West Drumochter Hills provides evidence of a readvance of locally nourished glaciers during the Loch Lomond (Younger Dryas) Stade, in the form of an icefield 67.7 km2 in area drained by outlet glaciers. The icefield limits accord broadly with those proposed by Sissons (1980) but all geomorphic, stratigraphic and sedimentological evidence conflicts with a recent proposal that the landforms in the area reflect southwestwards retreat of the last ice sheet. Up‐valley continuity of recessional moraines indicates that the ice remained active and close to climatic equilibrium during the earlier stages of glacier retreat, consistent with slow warming following the coldest part of the stade. The pattern of equilibrium line altitudes (ELAs) across the icefield is consistent with transfer of snow by westerly and southerly winds. The ELA of the reconstructed icefield as a whole is 622–629 m, although this figure is likely to be lower than the regional (climatic) ELA because the icefield probably received additional snow blown from adjacent plateau surfaces and slopes. Inclusion of potential snow‐blow areas in the ELA calculation yields a value of 648–656 m; the climatic ELA is therefore likely to have lain between 622 and 656 m. Mean June to August temperature at the ELA, based on chironomid assemblages at two sites, falls within the range 4.0 ± 0.7°C. Empirical relationships between temperature and precipitation at modern glacier ELAs indicate that mean annual precipitation (MAP) at the ELA was 1977 ± 464 mm, statistically indistinguishable from modern values. Comparison with precipitation values calculated for the Isle of Mull on the west coast suggest that the precipitation gradient across the Central Highlands of Scotland was steeper during the Loch Lomond Stade than at present, probably as the result of efficient scavenging of precipitation from westerly airflows by the West Highland Icefield. 滑坡堵江形成的堰塞湖沉积物是很好的地质记录体,是古气候和古环境很好的“见证者和记录者”,而沉积物的粒度特征是普遍、常用且重要的解析指标,对其进行精确测量就显得格外重要。本研究以云南省永胜县下院滑坡堰塞湖沉积物10.5 m厚的剖面为研究对象,从顶至底共取得15层样品,对样品采用5种不同的前处理方法以后用Mastersizer 2000粒度仪对其粒度进行测量,对75个样品测试结果从粒度频率、平均粒径、分选系数、偏度、峰度分析等参数来分析不同前处理对粒度特征的影响。结果表明:粒度频率分布曲线随前处理方法不同而不同,但均呈单峰形态,沉积物颗粒物质来源单一,非多物源沉积;加分散剂会使部分样品分选系数小幅增大,但对平均粒径、偏度、峰度均没有明显影响,表明采用超声波振荡也可以有好的分散效果;在本研究低有机质含量的堰塞湖沉积物中采用过氧化氢(H2O2)对有机质进行去除不会对平均粒径、分选系数、偏度和峰度产生显著影响;盐酸对粒度特征影响最为明显,特别是对于细粒沉积物,会使粒度整体变粗,20~50 μm粒组颗粒含量大幅增加,使所有粘土质粉砂皆转为粉砂;添加盐酸会使分选系数减小,分选性变好;对低偏度的沉积物使其偏度增加,对高偏度沉积物则使其偏度减小;对低峰度沉积物使其峰度增加。结合矿物分析结果和其他粒度参数分析可知,受不同前处理方法的影响不同类型不同成土条件形成的土样颗粒特征不同,需选择适宜的方法对不同沉积物样品进行前处理,本研究中建议采用C方法对滑坡堰塞湖沉积物进行前处理。

The Holocene environmental history of South Georgia is important because of the island's location in the Southern Westerlies in an oceanic zone of the world devoid of high resolution terrestrial records. This is the first attempt to interpret a palaeoenvironmental record from lake sediments in South Georgia. It is based on a wide variety of analyses undertaken on cores from two lakes. Both are in the same, unglaciated, drainage basin, but one is at 80 m above sea-level and near the altitudinal limit for vegetation growth, whereas the other is at 25 m and within the zone of continuous vegetation cover. Results from both lakes indicate shifts of vegetation boundaries, which, together with evidence for changing biotic productivity within the lakes themselves, are interpreted as indicating climatic changes. Radiocarbon dates on the main changes identify a climatic optimum, beginning before 5620 ± 290 14C yr BP, and ending at around 4815 ± 330 14C yr BP, when conditions in the upper part of the catchment were more conducive to plant growth than they are today. The record obtained from the lower lake was shorter, but indicates two periods of harsher climate relative to the present since 4000 yr BP. This interpretation of the lake evidence agrees with other dated evidence of environmental change from peat sections, glacial stratigraphy and geomorphology in South Georgia. Together the work allows an overall reconstruction of environmental change in the Holocene.  相似文献

Evidence for 35 former cwm glaciers has been mapped in Snowdonia, N. Wales. Glacial limits are based on end moraines, boulder and drift limits, and the down-valley extent of hummocky moraine. Protalus ramparts indicate that at least 16 semi-permanent snow beds down to altitudes of 150 m also existed. Radiocarbon dates and pollen stratigraphy indicate that the glaciers and snow beds belong to the Loch Lomond (Younger Dryas) Stadial. The existence of a large number of ‘Older Series Moraines’ is questionned. Glacier reconstruction and contouring allows calculation of fan line altitudes, and trend surface analysis indicates that they rise from 450 m in the southwest to 700 m in the northeast. It is inferred that mean July temperature at sea-level was around 8·5°C. Two differences between north and south Britain are recognized. Firstly in Snowdonia, as in the Lake District and Southern Uplands, the dominance of southerly air streams appears less than in the Scottish Highlands. Secondly, whereas in the Scottish Highlands, the glaciers appear to have stagnated in situ following initial active retreat, some of those farther south were active during much of the time their margins retreated.  相似文献

High resolution sampling of sediment cores covering approximately the last 4000 yr from Lochan Uaine, a small corrie loch in the Scottish Cairngorm Mountains, show quasi‐periodic cycles in organic matter (measured as percentage loss on ignition). Analysis of these cycles show correspondences between loss on ignition, δ13C values and chironomid head capsule abundance. We interpret the changes as reflecting changes in lake productivity and hypothesise that they are driven by climate variability. However, it is not yet clear whether the periods of relatively high organic matter production and preservation are associated with colder or with warmer conditions. 通过中山舰沉积物的纹层、磁化率、铁磁性物质与长江水位、大气污染的磁性物质来源关系等,并结合文史资料,得出沉积物磁化率的显著变化可作判别沉积物相对年代的指标,而沉积物中与现代工业发展相关的圆球状磁性金属废渣可作为判别沉积物确切年代的标志。沉积物磁化率的明显增强的原因是环境变化引起的铁磁性物质的增多,圆球状金属废渣的首次出现是武钢投厂对大气环境污染的结果,其指示年代为1959年。磁化率相对较低的沉积物沉积年代为1938-1958年,而磁化率明显增强的沉积物年代为1959年以后。研究表明,采用的沉积物磁性特征与文史相结合的断年方法,具有原理简明、操作方便、研究成本低等特点,适合内陆人口密集地区大尺度沉积环境普查研究的需要,并且不受沉积环境、沉积类型差异的影响。  相似文献

通过对太湖TJ-2钻孔的137Cs、粒度、总有机碳(TOC)、总氮(TN)、总磷(TP)及化学元素等多指标综合分析,探讨了太湖大浦湖区近百年来的环境演变特征。研究结果表明,20世纪50年代以前,沉积物中大部分金属元素如Al、Mn、Cu、Cr、Ni、Zn与粘土含量具很好的相关性,相关系数在0.74~0.82之间。此阶段湖泊生产力不高,水环境较好,沉积物以较低的营养元素含量为特征。50—90年代,是太湖向现代湖泊环境转化的显著时期,湖区生产力大幅提高,人为活动对湖泊系统严重干扰,湖区迅速达到富营养化。在沉积物中表现为Fe/Mn值下降,有机碳、总氮、总磷与重金属元素急剧上升,且重金属元素变化明显不同于沉积物粒度及Al元素变化曲线。90年代以后,湖区一直持续着富营养化状态,富营养趋势渐缓,沉积物中粘土含量上升、营养元素稍降及重金属指标变化不明显的趋势很好地体现了这一特征。TJ-2钻孔显示的环境信息与湖泊实际环境监测结果基本一致。  相似文献

在对滇池湖泊沉积物有机质总体特征分析的基础上,对沉积物中可溶性有机质的组成进行了定量测定,并揭示了其剖面变化特征.研究结果表明:(1)正构烷烃组分具有较强的稳定性,反映出滇池沉积有机质以菌藻类来源为主,沉积柱上、下两段存在陆源高等植物输入相对增加的特征,且从下往上存在草本植物相对贡献增加的特征;(2)脂肪醇组分,以具有强烈偶碳优势的高碳数脂肪醇为主,反映了沉积有机质中陆源输入的部分;(3)脂肪酸组分揭示出可溶有机质中以浮游植物贡献为主,局部层段存在相对较强的细菌改造作用.因此,湖泊沉积物记录了滇池从一个贫营养的湖泊演变成富营养化湖泊的过程,特别是最近几十年,滇池内源有机物和陆源有机物的输入都呈现快速增长的趋势,结合同位素组成特征表明滇池进入了重富营养化阶段.  相似文献

Radiocarbon dating of the organic-rich sediments of Lake Illisarvik in the outer Mackenzie Delta indicates that formation of the lake occurred approximately 9500yr BP, with maximum expansion around 6000 yr BP. Sedimentation rates have remained relatively constant at an average of 0.3mm/yr. 13C results on biogenic and inorganic carbonates and organics indicate a change from dominantly terrestrial organics (?27 to ?28%0) to submerged aquatic vegetation or plankton (?18 to ?23%0) upon formation of the lake (9500yr BP), and a dramatic return to dominantly terrestrial organics at 5800yr BP (δ13C = ?27 to ?30%0). This latter shift is accompanied by a drastic reduction in the macroflora and fauna populations. 18O results suggest that a warmer climate than today existed prior to the shift at 5800yr BP.  相似文献

通过对柴达木盆地大红沟剖面新生代沉积物岩石磁学的研究,探讨青藏高原东北部的构造活动与气候变化。典型样品的热退磁曲线表明,磁铁矿含量随地层年代的变新而增大。沉积物的磁化率由老至新划分为5个阶段,随时代变新而不断增大,与磁铁矿含量的增大相吻合。柴达木盆地沉积物磁化率值的变化与气候变化关系密切:①约43Ma,磁化率增大是全球气候变冷变干导致沉积物中磁铁矿含量增加所致;②约33Ma,磁化率增大是全球气候加速变冷的结果;③22Ma左右,青藏高原整体隆升,控制中国大陆环境的气候系统由行星风系转变为季风风系,亚洲内陆开始干旱化,致使更多的磁铁矿得以保存,磁化率值再度增大;④14Ma青藏高原东北缘发生区域构造抬升,西北干旱区进一步扩大,东亚季风明显加强,同时全球冰量扩张,导致柴达木盆地沉积物的磁化率整体增大,而且波动幅度和频率增大。  相似文献

Capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (C-GC-MS) and Iatroscan thin layer chromatography-flame ionisation detection (TLC-FID) were used to study hydrocarbon distributions in a sediment core from Ace Lake, a saline, meromictic lake in the Vestfold Hills of Antarctica. Hydrocarbons were abundant in most core sections (up to 125/μg/g dry wt), particularly in near-surface samples, and the distributions were very complex. Major constituents were identified as phytane, 2,6,10,15,19-pentamethyleicosane, tetrahydrosqualene, a mixture of phytenes, cholesta-3,5-diene and fern-7-ene. Smaller amounts of sterenes and hopenes were also present. The predominance of the first 3 acyclic isoprenoids in sediments buried less than 30 cm is consistent with high populations of methanogenic bacteria known to be present.Phytenes were abundant in all core sections, and there was no relationship between their abundance and that of phytane which suggests that they were not derived from methanogenic bacteria. Phytadienes were minor constituents at all depths studied. An unusual feature of some distributions was the high concentrations of fern-7-ene which was the major hydrocarbon in the 20–25 cm core section. This alkene was only abundant in sediments which contained high concentrations of methanogen markers suggesting that it may also be indicative of anoxic depositional environments. A possible source might be from purple non-sulphur bacteria. High concentrations of straight-chain C29 and C34 alkenes were also found in these sediments but their origin has not been determined. Major changes in the hydrocarbon distributions with depth indicate that the depositional environment in the lake has altered dramatically since the lake was formed less than 8000 years ago. The present condition of permanent anoxic bottom waters probably developed only in the last 1000 years.  相似文献
