The size of the hard X-ray source in the Crab Nebula was observed with scintillation counters on board two balloons at a lunar occulatation on 24 January, 1975. The Gaussian width of the source is 34 (+17, –14) and the center thereof is offset from the pulsar by 6±4 at position angle 102°. The observed time profile can also be fitted to an alternative model of two line sources whose intensities are 48% at 11 and 25.5% at 7 on both sides of the pulsar.Paper presented at the COSPAR Symposium on Fast Transients in X- and Gamma-Rays, held at Varna, Bulgaria, 29–31 May, 1975.  相似文献

Corrections to Newcomb's lunisolar precession and to motion of the equinox are evaluated from proper motions of 77 Cepheids, employing recently determined values of their distances. Results are diverse, depending on the weighting method. If the effect of the cosmic dispersion is neglected and 0 is imposed to be 25 km/s/kpc, thenp 1=1.1±0.2 and +e = 1.0 ± 0.1 per century in the FK4 system.Presented at IAU Colloquium No. 9, The IAU System of Astronomical Constants, Heidelberg, Germany, August 12–14, 1970.  相似文献

The reduction of observations of the O i 7773 triplet obtained at high spatial resolution (0.5) at two disk positions is described. Two sets of triplet profile data are presented at each disk position. One set represents data taken from 0.5 regions centered on the brightest granules, while the other set represents data taken from 0.5 regions centered on the cooler infalling intergranular material.  相似文献

A new spectroscopic method of deriving the three-dimensional information (escalation) worked out at the Pulkovo Observatory was applied to observations of solar faculae. The size of the investigated area was 70 × 18. Two series of spectra were obtained simultaneously in four spectral regions (H, D1,2, (Nai), H, and H, K (Caii)) with a quadruple-camera spectrograph attached to the second horizontal solar telescope at Pulkovo on 13 August, 1968.It was found from the analysis of the maps of brightness distribution in the cores of the lines and continuum that the facular emission lies in ropes which incline to the solar surface.  相似文献

Drift-time measurements of the solar diameter made at Izaña and Locarno in 1990–1992 show a significant increase of the observed angular semidiameter when compared to results obtained at the same two sites in 1981. The observed increase of 0.4 is not due to a systematic (or long-term) variation, but seems to reflect a more complicated behaviour with time: As both series of measurements were made around a maximum of the 11-year cycle, it seems that a variation in phase with solar activity (in the sense of the Secchi-Rosa law) can be ruled out.  相似文献

Systematic reductions of nineteenth century observations to the system of the FK4 are discussed. Reductions made on a nightly basis are described and compared with the results obtained through the use of conventional tables. The series of observations made at the Paris Observatory from 1837 to 1881 was used to compare the two methods, and a combined system of 24 000 FK4, FK4 Sup and AGK 3R positions and proper motions provided the reference stars. The results show that for Uranus the mean error of a single observation in right ascension is ±1..33 when tables are used for the reductions, and ±1.12 when nightly reductions are made, while in declination the corresponding mean errors are ±0.88 and ±0.80. The observations of Neptune show an even greater difference between the two methods; the mean errors for the tabular and nightly reductions are ±1.57 and ±1.09 in right ascension and ±0.88 and ±0.75 in declination. Secular rates in the (0–C)'s of Uranus of –0.029/year in right ascension and ±0.030/year in declination are present when the observations are reduced with tables. The conclusions of the present paper broadly are: (a) The galactic concentration of doubles by comparing the distributions in galactic latitudes 0°<20° and >40° is nearly twice as large as the galactic concentration of stars in general. (b) The astrographic catalogues are not complete in the fainter magnitudes. (c) The large value of the ratioT:O k (observed to optical number of pairs) from Kreiken's formula shows that almost all stars in the group 0<d5 and quite a few in the other two groups, viz., 5<d10 and 10<d15 might be shown true binaries. Consequently, Aitken's working definition of a true binary should be extended if it were to include all true binaries. (d) The doubles are probably stars of Population I. Infrared continuum observations of the Sun at wavelengths between 10 and 30 show a nonisothermal response of the upper photosphere to compression waves associated with the five-minute oscillations. Observations were made with four broad-band filters with effective transmission wavelengths between 10 and 26 and with a 10 aperture. Further observations at submillimeter wavelengths with a 2 aperture did not resolve oscillatory fluctuations of five-minute period.Comparisons with velocity field data of Howard (1976) suggest that the relaxation time of the photosphere exceeds (300/2) seconds at the height of formation of the 26 continuum (5000Å 10-2). The photosphere reponds to 3 mHz oscillatory motion with considerably less compression than expected for simple acoustic modes in an adiabatically responsive atmosphere, confirming the evanescent character of the five-minute oscillations.  相似文献

The ninth list of objects from the BIG (Byurakan-IRAS Galaxies) sample is presented; 87 galaxies are identified with 60 point sources from the IRAS PSC catalog in the region +69° +73° and 03h50m 09h50m with an area of 117 deg2. Most of the identified galaxies are compact with bright bulges and faint peripheries. The identified objects include 7 Sy candidates, 8 interacting pairs (of which one is a merger candidate), and 6 LSB galaxies. The optical coordinates and their deviations from the IR coordinates, the V magnitudes, morphological types, angular dimensions, and position angles are given. The identified galaxies are of morphological types Sa-Sc and have optical stellar magnitudes in the range 15.5m-21.5m with angular sizes in the range 3-26. Finding charts from DSS2 are provided for these objects.  相似文献

The velocity field has been mapped for 42 min in an area 80 by 85 containing a unipolar sunspot. Apparent shifts of Fe i 5233 were measured photoelectrically using a rectangular scanning aperture 1.6 × 4.0. The sunspot did not exert a marked influence on the generally random pattern of oscillations at a period of 300 s. Discrete periods of oscillation both longer and shorter than 300 s were excited within the enhanced magnetic field boundaries of this spot. The observed variation of reddening as function of the heliocentric distance and the spatial variation of reddening within the coma of Comet West in the visual wavelength range have been considered to infer the properties of the cometary dust grains. The relevant model incorporates the variation in the size distribution function as well as the composition of the spherical grains. The real part of the complex index of refraction (m = m – im) is chosen such thatm = 1.6. The imaginary part is required to vary from m = 0.2 to 0.05 over the wavelength range 0.4 to 0.7 m. This choice of refractive index corresponds to dirty silicate grains. As a by-product, the model also satisfies the observed polarization and albedo for the Comet West.  相似文献

The region around the Herbig Ae/Be star LkH198 was imaged at 10m with the CAMIRAS camera at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. We discovered a deeply embedded companion 6 north of LkH198, which may be responsible for most of the far-infrared emission in the region and for driving the molecular flow. LkH198 appears point-like at our resolution (FWHM 1.3), excluding an extended envelope of transiently heated small grains as the dominant origin of the mid-infrared excess in that star.  相似文献

Résumé Huit photographies monochromatiques (=2000 Å) au bord du soleil sont analysées en vue de mettre en évidence la granulation dans le domaine ultra-violet lointain. La fenêtre spectrale est définie par deux filtres interférentiels qui donnent une bande passante à mi-hauteur de 125 Å. Ces clichés de haute résolution ont été obtenus en ballon stratosphérique à une altitude de 30 500 m en profitant d'une fenêtre de transparence atmosphérique et en utilisant un télescope Cassegrain de 20 cm d'ouverture dont la résolution atteint 1. Ce télescope était porté par un dispositif pointeur de soleil dont la stabilité à court terme était meilleure que 2. Les clichés ont été pris à intervalles de 210 secondes avec un temps de pose de 0.25 seconde. On observe d'une part des variations de brillance grossières de largeur comprise entre 10 et 20 qui sont interprétées comme microfacules chromosphériques de durée de vie supérieure à 1/2 heure. On observe d'autre part une granulation dont la distribution densitométrique pour laquelle on a calculé les fonctions de corrélation et de structure présente une corrélation limitée à une distance angulaire de 4.
Summary Eight ultra-violet monochromatic pictures at the limb of the sun are analyzed for evidence of granulation in this spectral range ( = 2000 Å). The spectral window (125 Å) is defined by two interference filters. These high-resolution pictures were obtained with a 20 cm Cassegrain telescope carried at 30 500 m of altitude by a stratospheric balloon. The resolution of the telescope is 1. The instrument is mounted on a sunpointing control of excellent short time stability (2). The pictures were taken at intervals of 210 seconds with a 0.25 second exposure. Large brilliant irregularities 10 to 20 in diameter are interpreted as chromospheric microfaculae with a half-hour lifetime. On the other hand, the smaller irregularities are interpreted as ultra-violet granulation. Using the correlation and structure functions, the analysis of the density distribution shows that spatial correlation of these irregularities is limited to a 4 range.

Photometric reductions of the spectrograms obtained during the third flight of the Soviet Stratopsheric Solar Station are discussed. A comparison of photometric scans in H and its far wings near to the continuum leads to the conclusion that chromospheric mottles are at least several times broader than photospheric granules. The optimum size of mottles is about 0.8–1.1. The H profiles of mottles are practically the same as those obtained from the ground observations. The broadening of mottles is considered as an effect of expansion of magnetic arcs growing up to chromospheric levels.  相似文献

On June 9, 1973, a flare associated burst was observed with the NRAO 3-element interferometer at 3.7 and 11.1 cm wavelength. The burst was of gradual rise and fall type. Comparing the fringe amplitudes at 3.7 cm to the visibility computed for model flare regions we found that the precursor data are best fitted by a region of 3 in size while at the time of the peak, the flare appears to have a size of 2. During the post-maximum phase a size of 5 is the best estimate. Similar computations have been done for 11.1 cm data. The peak brightness temperatures are 1.2 × 109 K and 1.65 × 108 K at 3.7 and 11.1 cm respectively. Such high temperatures would imply that a significant fraction of the burst radiation has a non-thermal origin.  相似文献

CASPIR is a near-infrared spectrometer/imager being built for the Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories' 2.3 m telescope. The instrument is based on a SBRC 256×256 InSb detector array and uses AR-coated Sapphire, MgO, CaF2, and BaF2 optics to produce two imaging focal plane scales with 0.5/pixel and 0.25/pixel. Spectral resolving powers of 500 will be achieved through a 1×128 slit with three grisms designed for the J, H, and K bands. IJ, JH, and HK cross-dispersed échelle grisms will achieve resolving powers of 1100 through a 1×15 slit. Coronograph and imaging polarimetry modes will also be available. The various observing configurations are selected via five remotely controlled wheels. The instrument design and system architecture are discussed, and preliminary detector performance figures reported.  相似文献

We have used a 5.5 min time-sequence of spectra in the Fe i lines 5576 (magnetically insensitive), 6301.5 and 6302.5 (magnetically sensitive) to study the association of concentrated magnetic regions and velocity in the quiet Sun. After the elimination of photospheric oscillations we found downflows of 100–300 m s –1, displaced by about 2 from the peaks of the magnetic field; this velocity is comparable to downflow velocity associated with the granulation and of the same order or smaller than the oscillation amplitude. Quasi-periodic time variations of the vertical component of the magnetic field up to ± 40% were also found with a period near 250 s, close to the values found for the velocity field. Finally we report a possible association of intensity maxima at the line center with peaks of the oscillation amplitude.  相似文献

From time series of high resolution photographs, morphological properties of the photospheric facular granules were derived. The facular granules are cells of the common granular pattern, brighter than the normal granules when seen between cos = 0.6 and the limb. Their apparent diameter, which decreases towards the limb, is smaller than that of the normal granules: 0.65 and 1.25 respectively at cos = 0.55; their lifetime is 25 min but their bright stage lifetime is only 15 min; they are visible closer to the limb than the normal granules: 1.2 compared to 2–5; the brightening of the facular granules occurs at a faster rate than their fading. From the great similitude of both morphological properties and temperature models of facular and normal granules, it appears possible that the photospheric facular granules are convective cells modified by the presence of a magnetic field of some hundreds Gauss.  相似文献

As a consequence of an astrometry program, conducted since 1975 on a solar astrolabe at the Calern Observatory (Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur), we have obtained a data set of apparent solar diameters which encompasses periods greater than one solar cycle. From a set of more than 5000 visual observations, made by the same observer between 1975 and 1994, the mean value of the semidiameter was measured at 959.42 ± 0.01. Also, a set of CCD measurements made with the same instrument between 1989 and 1994 yields the mean value 959.40 ± 0.01. Both results obtained by raw measurements are consistent but significantly differ from values obtained by other methods and on other instruments. We discuss some systematic effects that can affect our visual measurements and their precision. Taking account of a zenith distance effect provides for the semi-diameter a mean value closer to the value of the ephemeris. Our observations also reveal deviations around the mean diameter in the royal zones and for high heliographic latitudes; their amplitudes reaching as much as 0.08. Finally, semi-diameter variations appear in our series; their origin is unknown but they may possibly be related to observed variations of magnetic activity or other solar parameters.  相似文献

The solar seeing image motion has been monitored electronically and absolutely with a 25 cm telescope at three sites along the ridge at the southern end of the Magdalena Mountains west of Socorro, New Mexico. The uncorrelated component of the variations of the optical flux from two points at opposite limbs of the solar disk was continually monitored in 3 frequencies centred at 0.3, 3 and 30 Hz. The frequency band of maximum signal centred at 3 Hz showed the average absolute value of image motion to be somewhat less than 2 although wide variations from 20 to an extraordinarily quiet day of less than the measurement limit of 1/2 were observed. The observer estimates of combined blurring and image motion were well correlated with electronically measured image motion, but the observer estimates gave a larger value × 2 presumable because the electronic measurement gave only the uncorrelated motion of opposite limbs. Approximately 30% of the total solar time would allow spatial position measurements of solar features to a precision 2 and, from the visual estimates, blurring limited measurements to a precision 4.  相似文献
