Cemeteries give evidence for a continuous change in sepulchral culture and provide insights into the application of characteristical rock materials used for tombstones during different times. Four selected cemeteries in Dresden (the Eliasfriedhof/Elias Cemetery, the Trinitatisfriedhof/Trinity Cemetery, the Johannisfriedhof/Johannis Cemetery, and the Städtischer Urnenhain/Municipal Urn Grove), which are of considerable cultural and historical importance, have been investigated within an ongoing mapping project. First results of this project focussing on the tombstone inventory of the mentioned graveyards and thus the use of building and decoration stones therein between 1680 and 1945 are presented in this paper. It can be demonstrated that the choice, variety, and application of rock material depends on the infrastructure and transport possibilities, but is also strongly influenced by sepulchral cultural trends and the prevailing zeitgeist. Until the middle of the 19th century, nearly solely Elbe sandstone (from the area of the Elbsandsteingebirge/Elbe sandstone mountains), that was transported on the Elbe river by ship, is found as rock material for tombstones in Dresden cemeteries. Rapid construction and development of the railway network starting around 1840 improved the availability, at first, of regional rock material (e.g., from the Lausitz/Lusatia) and, later on, from about 1880, of national and international—especially European—rock material (e.g., from Franken/Franconia, France, Scandinavia). Furthermore, the Friedhofsreformbewegung/cemetery reform movement at the beginning of the 20th century, with its significant effect on the selection of rock types used for tombstones, marks another historical breakthrough.  相似文献

A simple coherence measure—the semblance coefficient—has been used to sample the lithosphere beneath the NORSAR array in terms of its ability to produce coherent seismic energy. The data set is comprised of two samples of teleseismic P-coda waves (south of Honshu and Hindu-Kush events) and two samples of microseismic noise data with duration of about one hour each.Concerning the constitution of the earth structure there are two possibilities for coherent energy to be present in noise-like wavefields. The first is tied to scattering effects and the second may be brought about by seismic emission effects. The emissive component represents the seismic response of the medium to variations in the background stress field which may arise from various sources: passing seismic waves (body or surface), free oscillations of the Earth, tides, an abnormal level of heat flow, or geodynamic processes in general.The presence of a well known source of seismic signal—Hunderfossen dam—in the vicinity of NORSAR area provided an opportunity to test the data processing algorithm. Results obtained for two independent microseismic data samples point to the same location in close vicinity to the dam.For P-coda data the signal energy from the upper mantle areas, as indicated by the maximum of semblance measure values at the depth around 116 km, reaches about 3.8% and 5% of the total P-coda energy for Honshu and Hindu-Kush events, respectively. For microseismic noise data this value is about 1% at a depth around 100 km. Comparison with the results of holographic studies supports the assumption that, in the case of microseismic data, the detected signal energy is of emissive nature, while for P-coda data we need more coda samples to make a sound judgement about the nature (scattering or emission) of the detected signals.  相似文献

South Devon,UK     
Where can you teach the fundamental principles of geology in three short field days? In this feature article, I introduce South Devon as a classic area of geology, useful for introducing basic concepts relevant to school and first‐year degree curricula. That this region remains a catalyst for developing young geologists is especially fitting given that it was here that Henry de la Beche embarked on the first mapping project of what would later become the British Geological Survey. In South Devon, a novice geologist can learn about plate tectonics, the unifying theory of our subject, through a visit to two quarries. At Chipley Quarry, near Newton Abbott, sea‐floor spreading is well illustrated by Devonian pillow‐lavas extruded within the back‐arc margins of the Rheic Ocean. At Burrator Quarry, near Yelverton, the aftermath of continental collision is represented by the north‐verging Variscan fold belt, intruded and thermally metamorphosed by the Dartmoor granite. A trip along the coast to Paignton provides an informative lesson about the distinctive stratigraphic imprint that is created by this plate tectonic cycle. Here, tightly folded Devonian slates are unconformably overlain by near‐horizontal Permian breccia‐conglomerates at Waterside Cove. The ‘abyss of time’ at their junction represents the tens of millions of years involved in the uplift and denudation of Rheic Ocean sediments in the course of the Variscan Orogen. The Devonian and Permian successions of South Devon additionally serve as an excellent training ground for interpreting ancient environments with both marine and terrestrial facies spectacularly represented. Fossils abound in these strata, too, including the stromatoporoid life assemblage at Triangle Point, Torquay, where students have the opportunity to do a virtual scuba‐dive over a Devonian reef. Finally, given current discussions about employability in UK universities, there is even room in an excursion to instill the practical importance of geology: for example, a trip to the scenic Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor reveals what can go wrong for geotechnical engineers when a major dam is sited on a granite weakened by chemical weathering. In summary, South Devon has it all—a brilliant natural laboratory for training and inspiring the next generation of geologists.  相似文献

本文重点对冷水坑银铅锌矿田构造发育特征和构造地球化学的若干问题进行了初步探讨。运用裂隙统计、显微构造和组构分析方法对矿田NE向、NW向和近EW向断裂的力学性质和活动方式作了概略性论述。研究了银路岭矿床三个构造地球化学剖面的分析结果,其中主要成矿元素和伴生元素的分布和丰度变化与构造发育的关系,显示出本区构造地球化学场具有一定的分布规律。矿田F_1断裂是有一定区域意义的重要的成岩成矿和控岩控矿断裂,本次工作中选择了茶田剖面对F_1断裂带构造地球化学特征进行了初步探讨。  相似文献

Phosphorus (P) and other chemical elements have been used to identify residential middens at archaeological sites. This study discusses the relationship of soil chemical elements and middens at Group Chispa, a Late Classic residential complex at a commoner village in the Maya lowlands. The complex was extensively excavated and soil sampled. Ceramic sherd densities, which serve as a proxy for artifact densities, correlate only partially with phosphorus and other chemical elements. One of the three middens in Group Chispa coincides with the highest concentration of P while the two others—including the most extensive one—have medium to low P levels. A spectrum of human activities that include the preparation of pigments explains the nontraditional distribution of chemical elements. High P levels remain useful to detect middens but they provide an incomplete picture and need to be contextualized by comprehensive archaeological data.  相似文献

Global analyses of zonal wind field and thermal field structure at standard pressure levels of 200,150 and 100 mb have been carried out in India during July 1979—a poor monsoon year and July 1975—a good monsoon year. More than 250 stations in the belt 60°N and 60°S were selected. Contrasting features of the zonal wind field structure and thermal field are brought out, and it is shown that monsoon activity is reflected in the upper level and is controlled by planetary scale.  相似文献

Iron (III) oxides are common constituents of geologic materials, they are products and by-products of many industrial processes, they are involved in biological processes, and they are the outcome of iron and steel corrosion. In many of these examples the iron oxides are — fortuitously or intentionally — of small particle size, and as a consequence difficult, if not impossible, to characterize by standard physicochemical techniques. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy is suitable for this purpose because it can serve as a probe of the electric and magnetic conditions in the vicinity of iron nuclei in solid samples, no matter how the iron may be bound. Deviations of the magnetic properties of iron oxides of small particle size from those of their bulk counterparts lead to radical changes in the appearance of their Mössbauer spectra. Diverse models that have been put forward to account for such changes are discussed in this paper, including superparamagnetism, collective magnetic excitations, anomalous recoil-free fractions, superferromagnetism, spin canting and speromagnetism, reduced hyperfine field supertransfer, and Néel temperature reductions and distributions. Specific examples of microcrystalline iron (III) oxides and related minerals originating from different natural environments, resulting from technical processes, and being studied as planetary analogs are presented and discussed in the light of present-day knowledge on the properties of such materials.  相似文献

The estimation of the long-term stability of crystalline rock massifs with respect to natural and technogenic loads in the course of long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) is a special area of surveys at underground research laboratories (URLs). In parallel with these surveys, data on uranium deposits—natural analogues of repositories of SNF consisting of 95% UO2—are used for obtaining insight into the dynamics of radionuclide migration and validating barrier properties of host rocks. Examples of URLs located in granitic massifs of Sweden (Äspö), Canada (Whiteshell), Switzerland (Grimsel), Japan (Mizunami), and Finland (ONKALO), as well as the El Berrocal (Spain), Palmottu (Finland), Sanerliu (China), and Kamaishi (Japan) deposits, are considered in the paper. The objects listed above are distinct in tectonic settings, geology, control of ore mineralization, redox conditions of uranium migration, and character and intensity of filtration and transportation, which predetermine the direction and specific features of research conducted therein. A variant in which a URL and a natural analogue are combined in one object is especially promising for validation of safe long-term isolation of SNF. The Antei vein-stockwork uranium deposit in the southeastern Transbaikal region, localized in Paleozoic granite at a depth of 400–1000 m and opened by mine workings at six levels, is such an object. Its geological features, stress-strain state, and infrastructure of mine workings offer an opportunity to study the entire spectrum of processes proceeding in near-and far-field of an SNF repository. The structural geology, mineralogy and petrography, and petrophysical and tectonophysical features of the deposit at its three lower levels are considered. The sequence of metasomatic alteration of rocks and the dynamics of formation of ore-bearing faults that crosscut prototectonic elements, as well as relationships of physicomechanical properties of rocks as a function of the intensity of their metasomatic alteration and the distance from master fault planes, have been established. A 3D geological model of the deposit in combination with estimated parameters of the present-day stress field and physicomechanical properties of particular rock blocks serves as the basis for prediction of the geomechanical behavior of the massif. The practical implications of the results obtained for assessment of the long-term safety of SNF repositories in granites are discussed.  相似文献

This article explores the relevance of spatial global legal pluralism—an emerging field at the interstices of geography, anthropology, and socio-legal studies—for research on the global land rush, and the study of land law and investment in particular. I argue that a focus on the spatial dimensions of law—coupled with attention to the interlegality, scalar politics, and spatio-temporalities of semi-autonomous law—offers important insights into the dynamic forces, actors, and stakes in the global land rush. In Myanmar, the prospects for peace—however tenuous—have led to an acceleration of land law development including the creation of ‘semi-autonomous land law’ by ethnic armed groups and activists in its borderlands. I discuss the ways in which such policies not only anticipate peace but seek to shape its political-economy over multiple spatio-temporalities. By recognizing both international human rights law and customary law, such ‘non-state’ laws bring these two scales into an intermediary legal jurisdiction, contributing to the sedimentation of Kawthoolei and Kachinland as political scales in their own right.  相似文献

塔里木盆地多旋回的演化历史导致了多期次的复合构造变形作用。不同方式的构造运动导致了不同方式的复合,不同等级和不同规模的变形叠加导致了不同级次的复合构造。根据造成复合构造的应力场变化的特征,结合具体实例将塔里木盆地复合构造划分为8种主要类型:继承性挤压、继承性走滑、挤压--走滑、走滑--挤压、拉张--挤压、挤压--拉张、挤压--重力和重力--挤压复合构造。复合构造为油气运移提供了新的运移动力场及高效输导体系。构造复合一方面可能会加大早期构造的幅度并使其更为复杂,另一方面会导致各种圈闭更为复杂的平面组合与纵向叠置方式。构造复合对早期已聚集的油气存在一定的破坏作用,同时,由多油源、多期生烃、多通道、多圈闭类型和多成藏期组成的成藏条件也在复合构造中形成了以塔河--轮南特大型油气田为代表的复式油气聚集带。  相似文献

The Qinling-Dabie-Sulu high-pressure and ultra-high pressure metamorphic belt wasformed by subduction and collision between the North China and Yangtze plates. The study ofthe eclogite belt is very important in understanding the evolution of the Qinling Dabie orogen. Inthe present paper the geology, petrology, minerology and chronology of the eclogites in the Dabieand Sulu areas are described. The principal conclusions of this work are as follows: (1) Based up-on the field occurrence and the P-T conditions of the eclogites, two types of eclogite can be dis-tinguished: Type 1—the low-temperature and high-pressure eclogite in the mid-late Proterozoicmetamorphic series, and Type 2—the ultra-high pressure eclogite in the late Archaean to earlyProterozoic metamorphic complex. In the Dabie area, the ultra-high-pressure eclogite,high-pressure eclogite and epidote-blueschist units are nearly parallel to each other and stretchintermittently from north to south. (2) The P-T conditions of the high-pressure eclogites and ul-tra-high pressure eclogites have been estimated. The former are formed at 450-550℃ and1.4-1.6 GPa; while the latter at 650-870℃ and >2.7-2.9 GPa in the Dabie area and at820-1000℃ and >2.8-3.1 GPa in the Sulu area. The metamorphic temperatures of the eclogitesincrease progressively from west to east. (3) The ultra-high pressure eclogites were subjected to 5stages of metamorphism: pre-eclogite epidote amphibolite facies, peak coesite eclogite facies,post-eclogite amphibolite facies, epidote-blueschist facies or epidote amphibolite facies andgreenschist facies. The general features of the PTt path of the ultra-high pressure eclogite are:clockwise pattern, progressive metamorphism being a process of slow increasing temperature andrapid increasing pressure, and the retrogressive section with nearly isothermal decompression atthe early stage, isobaric cooling at the middle stage and nearly isothermal decompression at thelate stage. (4) At least two stages of high-pressure metamorphism occurred in the orogenic belt:the high-pressure eclogite and ultra-high pressure eclogite were formed by the subduction of theoceanic crust northward beneath the North China plate or the Dabie block during theCaledonian; while the epidote-blueschist belt came into being by subdution and collision be-tween the two continental plates during the Indosinian. (5) Due to the continuous sequentialsubduction of the cold plate, the ultra high-presssure metamorphic rocks were uplifted to thecrust by the underplating processes. They can be preserved just because of the "frozen effect" re-sulting from the continuous subduction of the cold plate. (6) The carbonates, such as magnesite,breunnerite, aragonite and dolomite, and the H_2O-bearing minerals, such as phengite, epidoteand zoisite, were stable during the high-pressure and/or ultra-high pressure metamorphism.  相似文献

Standing on guard at the entrance to the Palaeozoic section of the University of Cambridge's Sedgwick Museum is a bronze statue of the man after whom the museum was named—the 7th Woodwardian Professor, the Reverend Adam Sedgwick. In one hand he holds his trusty geological hammer, in the other is a rock. Sedgwick, the man who unraveled many of the mysteries of the early Palaeozoic rocks of Wales, looks as if he has just cracked a piece of rock off an outcrop. Yet, rather incongruously, he is swathed in his academic gown—our man is clearly both the consummate field geologist and the academic.  相似文献

宁芜向山-皇姑山地区,黄铁矿床赋存于基底火山喷发带、火山穹窿和NNE与NW向基底断裂交汇部位。通过多种手段综合研究,证实该区NNE向基底断裂为导矿构造,NE、NNE、NW向断裂构造为容矿构造。该区中生代二期构造应力场中NWW—SEE向主压应力场之共轭角高值区为黄铁矿富集地带。矿床受火山构造和地质构造双重控制,在皇姑山、莺子山、濮塘地区,云台山NE、SW方向,可能找到隐伏的黄铁矿矿床。  相似文献

Blind structurally controlled hydrothermal uranium ore bodies have definite geochemical expressions in their primary dispersion complex halos of lead, molybdenum, and soluble uranium extending over long distances upwards from the ores. Zonations in distribution-abundance of the three metals within the halos, as shown by orderly variations and trends in the ratios between the metals' concentrations, may serve by themselves as guides to the prospecting targets, under certain conditions — V.P. Recently, FFT techniques are frequently applied for local gravity field modeling. Compared to FFT wavelet transformation has some advantages: — higher numerical efficiency, — data compression.The disadvantage of wavelets for gravity field modelling is that the resulting equations are sparse, but not diagonal, as in the FFT case.This paper is to show, how this drawback can be overcome by the use of different systems of orthogonal base functions for data analysis and solution synthesis.  相似文献
