Quasi-electrostatic electron and ion-cyclotron instabilities are studied. The result indicates that the higher harmonic ion cyclotron instabilities (ICI) can be excited while the fast ions produced from reconnection are injected into a coronal loop. Part of the energetic ions can be dragged out of the magnetic mirror turning points and a negative plasma potential is generated. The plasma potential may directly accelerate the electrons up to the relativistic velocity within a short time. This acceleration is similar to the processes occurring in the magnetic mirror devices of controlled thermonuclear fusion. The spectrum and flux of accelerated electrons have also been obtained. Some observational results during the solar flare might be explained by this acceleration mechanism.  相似文献

Previous studies confirm that sand can be entrained at the wind velocities recorded on Venus. Present results describe bedforms produced in the Venus Wind Tunnel (VWT) simulating the average Venusian environment. Even at the low wind speeds measured on Venus, dunelike structures form in fine-grained quartz sands (particles 50–200 μm in diameter). The dunelike structures, referred to as microdunes, are considered to be true dunes analogous to those on Earth because they have (1) slip faces, (2) a lack of particle-size sorting, (3) a low ratio of saltation path length to dune length, and (4) internal cross-bedding. The microdunes typically produced in the VWT are 9 cm long and 0.75 cm high. It is proposed that there may be fields of microdunes on Venus that are capable of very fast rates of migration and that they may grow into features much larger than those observed in the VWT. However, neither dunes nor other types of features develop above a wind speed of ~ 1.5 m/sec; at this wind speed, the bed is flat and featureless. Thus, it is predicted that relatively short periods of higher winds may destroy microdunes and other small bedforms which could account for the sparsity of definitive aeolian features observed in Venera images. Some apparent cross-bedding observed in Venera images, however, could represent preserved aeolian structures.  相似文献

An organic heteropolymer (Titan tholin) was produced by continuous dc discharge through a 0.9 N2/0.1 CH4 gas mixture at 0.2 mbar pressure, roughly simulating the cloudtop atmosphere of Titan. Treatment of this tholin with 6N HCl yielded 16 amino acids by gas chromatography after derivatization of N-trifluroacetyl isopropyl esters on two different capillary columns. Identifications were confirmed by GC/MS. Glycine, aspartic acid, and alpha- and beta-alanine were produced in greatest abundance; the total yield of amino acids was approximately 10(-2), approximately equal to the yield of urea. The presence of "nonbiological" amino acids, the absence of serine, and the fact that the amino acids are racemic within experimental error together indicate that these molecules are not due to microbial or other contamination, but are derived from the tholin. In addition to the HCN, HC2CN, and (CN)2 found by Voyager, nitriles and aminonitriles should be sought in the Titanian atmosphere and, eventually, amino acids on the surface. These results suggest that episodes of liquid water in the past or future of Titan might lead to major further steps in prebiological organic chemistry on that body.  相似文献

A nonlinear process for the resonant generation of low-frequency fast magnetosonic kink waves in coronal loops is discussed. The efficiency of the process is strongly enhanced due to the existence of a nonlinearly selected frequency produced by a constant frequency difference in the dispersion curves in the short wavelength limit. The kink wave with the selected frequency interacts with high-frequency kink and sausage waves. The efficiency of such interaction does not require coherence in the interactive waves. In a loop of width 2 × 103 km, field strength 50 G and number density 5 × 1015 m–3, the nonlinearly selected frequency is of order 46 mHz (period 21.8 s), but this may range through 11 mHz to 184 mHz (periods 86.5 s to 5.4 s) for typical coronal conditions.  相似文献

We discuss a mechanism of energy production associated with the acoustic and MHD shocks produced by colliding and reconnecting flux tubes and present the observational results showing a connection between the dynamic changes in the photosphere and the high velocity and heating events in the transition region. We suggest that these processes may provide a constant energy supply for the origin of the fast wind and help to advance studies of coronal dynamics. In this paper, we have performed a temporal analysis of single pulses from short (46) and long (51) gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) to investigate possible differences in their properties. In particular we pay detailed attention to the asymmetry of pulses. We find that the asymmetry ratio of short GRB pulses clusters around 0.81 and that these pulses are on average more symmetric than those from long GRBs, which have an average value of 0.47. In addition we note that the pulses in short GRBs display exponential rises and fast decays (ERFD) in comparison the fast rise exponential decays (FRED) pulses of long GRBs. The asymmetry ratio does not depend on the full width at half maximum (FWHM) and does not vary with energy channel. Moreover, there is a general trend for slower pulses to be more asymmetric. Finally, we deduce that the asymmetry could be used to probe the emission mechanisms of GRBs.  相似文献

We present the results of a search for fast spikes in 5483 hard X-ray solar flares as observed with the Hard X-Ray Burst Spectrometer on the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM). Hundreds of fast spikes with durations of less than 1 second have been detected at time resolutions of 128 ms and 10 ms. Fast spikes have been detected with rise and decay times as short as 20 ms and with widths as short at 45 ms that represent the fastest hard X-ray variations yet seen from the Sun. The observations of such fast variations place new constraints on the physical nature of the source.  相似文献

We follow the accretion of hydrogen-rich matter onto the surface of a white dwarf in a close binary system. Two phases of accretion are assumed. First—slow accretion from the interstellar clouds, second—fast accretion from the companion.Hydrogen is ignited at the interface between the fast and slowly accreted layers. After a short runaway burning continues in the form of quasistationary deflagration front propagating inwards. The features of this front are discussed. For differential equations with one fast variable, a perturbation method is introduced that transforms a solution valid over only a short time interval to a new solution composed of averaged variables plus a periodic function of the averaged variables. The averaged variables are governed by a set of differential equations where the fast variable has been removed and thus can be numerically integrated quickly or solved directly. This method is applied to a perturbed harmonic oscillator with a cubic perturbation, van der Pol's equation, coorbital motion in the restricted three-body problem, and to nearly circular motion of a particle near one of the primaries in the restricted three-body problem.  相似文献

We calculate the X-ray emission from both constant and time-evolving shocked fast winds blown by the central stars of planetary nebulae (PNe) and compare our calculations with observations. Using spherically symmetric numerical simulations with radiative cooling, we calculate the flow structure and the X-ray temperature and luminosity of the hot bubble formed by the shocked fast wind. We find that a constant fast wind gives results that are very close to those obtained from the self-similar solution. We show that in order for a fast shocked wind to explain the observed X-ray properties of PNe, rapid evolution of the wind is essential. More specifically, the mass-loss rate of the fast wind should be high early on when the speed is  ∼300–700 km s−1  , and then it needs to drop drastically by the time the PN age reaches ∼1000 yr. This implies that the central star has a very short pre-PN (post-asymptotic giant branch) phase.  相似文献

GRB 170817A was confirmed to be associated with GW170817, which was produced by a neutron star - neutron star merger. It indicates that at least some short gamma-ray bursts come from binary neutron star mergers. Theoretically, it is widely accepted that short gamma-ray bursts can be produced by two distinctly different mechanisms, binary neutron star mergers and neutron star - black hole mergers. These two kinds of bursts should be different observationally due to their different trigger mechanisms. Motivated by this idea, we collect a universal data set constituted of 51 short gamma-ray bursts observed by Swift/BAT, among which 14 events have extended emission component. We study the observational features of these 51 events statistically. It is found that our samples consist of two distinct groups. They clearly show a bimodal distribution when their peak photon fluxes at 15–150 keV band are plotted against the corresponding fluences. Most interestingly, all the 14 short bursts with extended emission lie in a particular region of this plot. When the fluences are plotted against the burst durations, short bursts with extended emission again tend to concentrate in the long duration segment. These features strongly indicate that short gamma-ray bursts really may come from two distinct types of progenitors. We argue that those short gamma-ray bursts with extended emission come from the coalescence of neutron stars, while the short gamma-ray bursts without extended emission come from neutron star - black hole mergers.  相似文献

We present a numerical simulation of the fast magnetosonic shock wave formation during a two-current-loop collision by using a magnetohydrodynamical model. It is shown that the rarefaction waves are generated in the initial stage when the two current loops start to collide. After the rarefaction waves propagate away from the excited region, the fast magnetosonic waves with density enhancement can be produced for the simulation when the current strength of the loop is weak. As the current becomes strong enough, the magnetosonic shock waves can be generated in the direction perpendicular to that of the two-loop collision.  相似文献

The observations of the Zel'dovich effect in galaxy clusters are reviewed. The failure to detect the effect at short wavelengths is interpreted as proof of the existence of intergalactic dust. We investigate how fast magnetosonic waves can be produced from a pinching current sheet, by using 3-D MHD code. We show that after magnetic pinch of the current sheet due to pressure imbalance, the current sheet begins to expand by an excess of plasma pressure at the center of the current sheet. During the expansion phase, strong fast magnetosonic waves can be created at the steep region of the density gradient and propagate away from the current sheet. It is shown that the fast magnetosonic waves become unstable against modulational instability, as found by Sakai (1983). After the emission of the fast magnetosonic waves, the current sheet will relax to a new equilibrium state, where the current sheet can be heated by adiabatic compression. The emission processes of the fast magnetosonic waves from the current sheet, as well as the modulational instability of these waves that can lead to effective plasma heating through the Landau damping of the slow waves, are important for an understanding of coronal heating and coronal transient brightening.  相似文献
