The evaluation of damping constants is discussed and the results of their empirical determination by various authors are listed in the Appendix.The results of the determination of damping constants by analysing the wings of 38 strong Fe i lines are discussed and compared with previous results obtained by the same method from 27 moderate Fe i lines.The van der Waals damping constant 6 multiplied by an enhancement factor E = 2.5 is suggested for the interpretation of Fe i Fraunhofer lines.  相似文献

The H N method, employed for studies in neutron transport theory, is used to establish numerical results basic to the vector equation describing the transfer of polarized light in a Rayleigh scattering atmosphere with true absorption. The method has been applied to the classical Milne problem. The exit distribution is defined as a series in powers of the zenith observation angle. The numerical results are computed and compared with exact values obtained using the exit distribution in terms of the H-matrix. The numerical results are in good agreement with previously published findings.  相似文献

A Fourier analysis on galaxy number counts from redshift data of both the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey indicates that galaxies have preferred periodic redshift spacings of Δz= 0.0102, 0.0246, and 0.0448 in the SDSS and strong agreement with the results from the 2dF GRS. The redshift spacings are confirmed by the mass density fluctuations, the power spectrum P(z) and N pairs calculations. Application of the Hubble law results in galaxies preferentially located on co-moving concentric shells with periodic spacings. The combined results from both surveys indicate regular co-moving radial distance spacings of 31.7±1.8 h?1?Mpc, 73.4±5.8 h?1?Mpc and 127±21 h?1? Mpc. The results are consistent with oscillations in the expansion rate of the universe over past epochs.  相似文献

Optical measurements of the diameter of Mars were made using a double-image micrometer with large refractors from 1952 to 1971. Discussion of the 90 independent series of measurements gives nine determinations of radius with an accuracy of ±7–8km for different latitudes from pole to equator. The Mariner 4, 6 and 7 occultation results and the radar results availble in 1970 added seven further determinations of comparable accuracy. All these values, within the accuracy of measurement, fit an ellipsoid with Req=3398±3km and Rpo1=3371±4km. The mean density of Mars is thus 3940±0.012g cm−3. The resulting optical oblateness of 0.0079, larger than the dynamical value of 0.0052, results in an equatorial radius excess of 9±5 km which presumably comes about by internal stresses.  相似文献

Abstract. We have constructed a chemical reaction system in a contracting interstellar cloud. In paper (I) we have presented the details of the physical and chemical scheme and the method of solution. The results of our chemical model produce fractional abundances of H2CO, CO, OH, H2O, SO and OCS which are in good agreement with the results of observations. On the other hand, the results of chlorine-bearing species are not in agreement with those of the observations. The calculated abundances of H2CO, CO, OH, H2O, SO, OCS and Cl+ are in agreement with the results of previous theoretical studies.  相似文献

The results of photographic photometry of nine asteroids with the Schmidt telescope at the Uppsala Southern Station are presented. The results tend to confirm earlier results [Lagerkvist, (1978) Astron. Astrophys. Suppl.31, 361] that the smaller asteroids are collisional products. Rotation periods were determined for the asteroids 700, 1267, 1523, and 1562. Absolute magnitudes were determined for the asteroids 525, 700, 1207, 1267, and 1717.  相似文献

Martian magmas are thought to be rich in chlorine compared with their terrestrial counterparts. Here, we experimentally investigate the effect of chlorine on liquidus depression and near‐liquidus crystallization of olivine‐phyric shergottite NWA 6234 and compare these results with previous experimental results on the effect of chlorine on near‐liquidus crystallization of the surface basalts Humphrey and Fastball. Previous experimental results showed that the change in liquidus temperature is dependent on the bulk composition of the basalt. The effect of chlorine on liquidus depression is greater for lower SiO2 and higher Al2O3 magmas than for higher SiO2 and lower Al2O3 magmas. The bulk composition for this study has lower Al2O3 and higher FeO contents than previous work; therefore, we provide additional constraints on the effect of the bulk composition on the influence of chlorine on near‐liquidus crystallization. High pressure and temperature crystallization experiments were performed at 1 GPa on a synthetic basalt, of the bulk composition of NWA 6234, with 0–4 wt% Cl added to the sample as AgCl. The results are consistent with previous notions that with increasing wt% Cl in the melt, the crystallization temperature decreases. Importantly, our results have a liquidus depression ?T (°C) from added chlorine that is consistent with the difference in bulk composition and suggest a dependence on both the bulk Al2O3 and FeO content. Our results suggest that the addition of chlorine to the Martian mantle may lower magma genesis temperatures and potentially aid in the petrogenesis of Martian magmas.  相似文献

We used merger trees realizations, predicted by the extended Press-Schechter theory, in order to study the growth of angular momentum of dark matter haloes. Our results showed that:
  1. The spin parameter λ′ resulting from the above method, is an increasing function of the present day mass of the halo. The mean value of λ′ varies from 0.0343 to 0.0484 for haloes with present day masses in the range of 109h?1 M to 1014h?1 M .
  2. The distribution of λ′ is close to a log-normal, but, as it is already found in the results of N-body simulations, the match is not satisfactory at the tails of the distribution. A new analytical formula that approximates the results much more satisfactorily is presented.
  3. The distribution of the values of λ′ depends only weakly on the redshift.
  4. The spin parameter of an halo depends on the number of recent major mergers. Specifically the spin parameter is an increasing function of this number.

The stability characteristics of parallel magnetic fields when fluid motions are present along the lines of force is studied. The stability criterion for both symmetric (m=0) and asymmetric (m=1) modes are discussed and the results obtained by Trehan and Singh (1978) are amended in the present study. The results obtained for the cylindrical geometry are shown to play an important role forka<4, wherek is the wave number,a is the radius of the cylinder, compared to the results obtained by Geronicolas (1977) for the slab geometry.  相似文献

The internal gravity modes of the Sun are notoriously difficult to detect, and the claimed detection of gravity modes presented by Fossat et al. (Astron. Astrophys.604, A40, 2017) is thus very exciting. Given the importance of these modes for understanding solar structure and dynamics, the results must be robust. While Fossat et al. described their method and parameter choices in detail, the sensitivity of their results to several parameters was not presented. Therefore, we test the sensitivity of the results to a selection of the parameters. The most concerning result is that the detection vanishes when we adjust the start time of the 16.5-year velocity time-series by a few hours. We conclude that this reported detection of gravity modes is extremely fragile and should be treated with utmost caution.  相似文献

The evolution of the different chemical species are followed in a model of contracting interstellar cloud. The central density increases from n = 10 cm–3 diffuse initial cloud model to a dense cloud with central density number of n >- 105 cm–3 after a time of 1.2 × 107 yr. A network of 622 reactions has been involved. The chemistry of the cloud is integrated simultaneously with the hydrodynamic equations of contraction.The results predict that the different molecular species increase in abundance as the contraction proceeds. The species which enhance significantly are CO, HCO, CS and NO. The fractional abundances of many of the other molecular species increase distinctly with contraction, e.g. CH, C2H, CN, SO2, CO2, H2O, C2, NH3, HCN, SO, OCS and SN. The transformation of the initial diffuse cloud model with small abundances of molecular species to a dense molecular cloud with enhancement of the different molecular species is confirmed. The results predict good agreements of our results with both the observations and other theoretical studies.  相似文献

Ground-based results on cyclic variations of the apparent solar radius are so far controversial and inconsistent. This is blamed to atmospheric noise which effects can be so severe that even in cases in which the observations are made with similar instruments, the results show strong disagreements (Li et al.: 2003, Astrophys. J. 591, 1267). Such claim concerns the results of Danjon astrolabes which during the last decades have been used widely at several sites for solar metrology. The long-term series with thousands of radius measurements made with astrolabe at Calern, France, and at Santiago, Chile, is a case in which the results of radius variations in time are strongly discrepant in spite that the observations were made simultaneously, in quite similar conditions and with almost identical instruments (Noël: 2004, Astron. Astrophys. 413, 725). However, we show here that most of astrolabe discrepancies may be due to data analysis biased by theoretical preconceptions, by empirical results which without scientific arguments are considered as canonical references and by over interpretations of casual agreements between visual and CCD astrolabe results.  相似文献

The results of photometric astrometry, a method of determining the orientation of a rotation axis, as applied to asteroid 44 Nysa are presented. The pole orientation of Nysa was found to be λ0 = 100°, β0 = +60° with an uncertainty of 10°. The sidereal period is 0d.26755902 ± 0.00000006, and the rotation prograde. Refinements to, and limitations of, the application of the method of photometric astrometry are discussed. In light of the results presented herein, we believe that all photometric astrometry pole determinations of the past should be redone.  相似文献

The motion of a point mass in the J 2 problem has been generalized to that of a rigid body in a J 2 gravity field for new high-precision applications in the celestial mechanics and astrodynamics. Unlike the original J 2 problem, the gravitational orbit-rotation coupling of the rigid body is considered in the generalized problem. The existence and properties of both the classical and non-classical relative equilibria of the rigid body are investigated in more details in the present paper based on our previous results. We nondimensionalize the system by the characteristic time and length to make the study more general. Through the study, it is found that the classical relative equilibria can always exist in the real physical situation. Numerical results suggest that the non-classical relative equilibria only can exist in the case of a negative J 2, i.e., the central body is elongated; they cannot exist in the case of a positive J 2 when the central body is oblate. In the case of a negative J 2, the effect of the orbit-rotation coupling of the rigid body on the existence of the non-classical relative equilibria can be positive or negative, which depends on the values of J 2 and the angular velocity Ω e . The bifurcation from the classical relative equilibria, at which the non-classical relative equilibria appear, has been shown with different parameters of the system. Our results here have given more details of the relative equilibria than our previous paper, in which the existence conditions of the relative equilibria are derived and primarily studied. Our results have also extended the previous results on the relative equilibria of a rigid body in a central gravity field by taking into account the oblateness of the central body.  相似文献

The results of thermal model calculations which assume 26Al as a heat source are presented. The relation between 26Al content, the maximum central temperature obtained, and the time interval after formation until central cooling commences is elucidated. Because of the heating times required, these results constrain maximum permissible planetoid dimensions more severely than do previous calculations which assume a high initial temperature.  相似文献

As a component of the Flash Center’s validation program, we compare FLASH simulation results with experimental results from Los Alamos National Laboratory. The flow of interest involves the lateral interaction between a planar M a = 1.2 shock wave with a cylinder of gaseous sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) in air, and in particular the development of primary and secondary instabilities after the passage of the shock. While the overall evolution of the flow is comparable in the simulations and experiments, small-scale features are difficult to match. We focus on the sensitivity of numerical results to simulation parameters.  相似文献

Summary Recent developments in the theory of element production and the chemical evolution of the galaxy are presented. Following this, observational data and their interpretation are given. A case by case analysis of results for D, He, Li and CNO isotope data in the disk and center of our galaxy is presented; previous results for element gradients are also summarized.The primordial abundances of D and He cannot be directly obtained from observations; corrections for stellar processing are discussed. From these data and the Li abundances, it appears that the abundance of the light elements is consistent with the standard big bang. In agreement with previous results, the range of, the baryon to photon ratio, is 5–8 10–10. If the amount of non-baryonic matter is small, these results indicate an open universe, in the standard big bang model.New data show a gradient in the (12C/13C) and (16O/18O) ratios with galactocentric distance, DGC. The presence of a gradient in the (14N/15N) ratio is less clear and there is no measurable gradient in the (32S/34S) ratio. In the interstellar medium near the sun, the carbon isotope ratio is –20 percent lower than the solar system ratio. This indicates that there has been only a moderate amount of enrichment of the nearby interstellar medium since the formation of the solar system. These results and previously determined galactic element gradients are interpreted in the framework of chemical evolution models. Delayed recycling of nucleosynthesis products is essential for the correct interpretation of the results. Theoretical results on the daily variation of O+ and H+ field-aligned velocities in the topside ionosphere are presented. The results are for an L = 3 magnetic field tube under sunspot minimum conditions at equinox. They come from calculations of time-dependent O+ and H+ continuity and momentum balance in a magnetic field tube which extends from the lower F2 region to the equatorial plane (Murphy et al., 1976).There are occasions when ion counterstreaming occurs, with the O+ velocity upward and H+ velocity downward. The conditions causing this counterstreaming are described: the H+ layer is descending whilst O+ is supplied from below either to increase the O+ concentration at fixed heights or to replace O+ ions lost by charge exchange with neutral H. It is suggested that the results of observations at Arecibo by Vickrey et al. (1976) of O+ and H+ concentrations and counterstreaming velocities are significantly affected by E×B drift.  相似文献

The study of the chemical composition of stars and galaxies is a key topic for understanding their origin and evolution. In this study, we present the results of the calculation of solar abundances of the isotopes 1H, 4He, 12C, 14N, 15O, 16O, 17O, and 18O during the four phases of the solar life: hydrogen burning, onset of rapid growth and red giant, helium burning and helium exhaustion. The open source package “NucNet Tools” from the Webnucleo Group in Clemson University, SC, USA was used for this purpose. The results for all isotopes are listed in tables for future use. Abundances found, globally, agree fairly well with those predicted in the literature. Results obtained for the last two phases have no equivalents elsewhere.  相似文献

We have obtained Bianchi type-III cosmological model with strange quark matter attached to the string cloud in general relativity. For solving the Einstein’s field equations the relation [C=A n ] between metric coefficients C and A is used. Also, some physical and kinematic properties of the model are discussed.The results are analogous to results obtained by Yilmaz (Gen. Rel. Grav. 38:1397–1406, 2006).  相似文献
