Coal seams and culm banks associated with mine fires in the anthracite region of eastern Pennsylvania have been burning for decades. Many of the fires may have ignited by spontaneous combustion or by the burning of trash. Minerals associated with the combustion of anthracite form by the condensation of gas exhaled through surficial gas vents or anthracite smokers. A Pressure-Temperature (P-T) stability diagram is constructed for the condensation of orthorhombic sulfur from anthracite gas using Thermodynamic Loop Analysis (TL analysis). This method of analyzing chemical systems incorporates Kirchhoff's Law into a four step procedure structured around a closed thermodynamic cycle or thermodynamic loop. The four steps, referred to us The Four S S of Thermodynamic Loop Analysis, include: (1) Set Up—graphical characterization of the problem. (2) Sum—the application of thermodynamic principles. (3) Substitute—the use of materials data available from the literature, and (4) Solve—computation of one or more variables. The example presented demonstrates that thermodynamic loops can incorporate any number of polymorphic phase transformations. In addition, thermodynamic loop analysis is applicable to any geologic process involving the condensation of minerals from a gas. The stability diagram derived by TL analysis may have applicability in monitoring the release of sulfur gas into the atmosphere.  相似文献

对福建、京西地区高煤级Ⅲ无烟煤煤样分别进行了30℃条件下的甲烷等温吸附试验。结果显示,高煤级Ⅲ无烟煤对甲烷的吸附量要低于相同条件下的烟煤和高煤级Ⅰ、Ⅱ无烟煤。通过综合分析煤样的低温液氮吸附试验结果及其孔隙特征,结合煤结构理论和前期研究成果,分析认为:高煤级Ⅲ无烟煤的孔隙发育不均衡性、比表面积与孔容极小性以及芳香度高度缩合性,导致了其对甲烷的吸附空间大大减少,对甲烷的吸附量显著降低。研究成果对于丰富完善煤吸附气体理论,指导高煤级Ⅲ无烟煤地区矿井瓦斯治理及地面煤层气勘探开发都具有重要意义。   相似文献

竹山下铀矿床是粤北下庄铀矿田内大型铀矿床之一,铀矿化类型为"交点"型和硅化带型。在详细的野外地质调查基础上,对竹山下铀矿床4种不同类型黄铁矿进行元素含量分析及硫同位素测试,结果表明:"交点"型矿石中黄铁矿相对富集Pb、 Cu、 Co、 As、 Ni、 Se、 Bi、 U、 Sb、 Zn等微量元素;"交点"型铀矿化形成于中深部高温环境,成矿热液具有地幔流体特征,成矿过程硫来源与该区花岗岩中黄铁矿的硫来源一致或者相似,花岗岩中的黄铁矿可能为该期成矿事件的产物;竹山下矿床在垂向上表现出越往深部硫逸度越低的特征;"交点"型和硅化带型中黄铁矿具有相似的微量元素配分曲线,表明二者具有相同的成矿热液来源,且与辉绿岩中黄铁矿配分曲线相似,表明该区成矿热液具有深源性。  相似文献

At the close of the Pleistocene, fire regimes in North America changed significantly in response to climate change, megafaunal extinctions, anthropogenic burning and, possibly, even an extraterrestrial impact. On California's Channel Islands, researchers have long debated the nature of late Pleistocene “fire areas,” discrete red zones in sedimentary deposits, interpreted by some as prehistoric mammoth-roasting pits created by humans. Further research found no evidence that these red zones were cultural in origin, and two hypotheses were advanced to explain their origin: natural fires and groundwater processes. Radiocarbon dating, X-ray diffraction analysis, and identification of charcoal from six red zones on Santa Rosa Island suggest that the studied features date between ~ 27,500 and 11,400 cal yr BP and resulted from burning or heating, not from groundwater processes. Our results show that fire was a component of late Pleistocene Channel Island ecology prior to and after human colonization of the islands, with no clear evidence for increased fire frequency coincident with Paleoindian settlement, extinction of pygmy mammoths, or a proposed Younger Dryas impact event.  相似文献

A 2000-year accumulation of varved sediments from Hell's Kitchen Lake in north-central Wisconsin was analyzed for pollen, charcoal, and seeds. The varves provided an accurate time scale for the study. The pollen record indicates changes on two different time scales. Short-term changes lasting several decades appear to be superimposed on long-term changes lasting several centuries. The short-term changes are related to individual fires, and the long-term changes result from increases or decreases in the frequency of these perturbations. From 2000 to 1150 years ago the average interval between fires was about 100 years, and from 1150 to 120 years ago the interval increased to about 140 years. Evidence from pollen, seeds, and charcoal at Hell's Kitchen Lake suggests that at least two “moist” intervals occurred during the past 2000 years, one between 2000 and 1700 years ago and the other between 600 and 100 years ago. A third but minor “moist” period occurred about 1150 to 850 years ago. A pollen and seed diagram shows that these intervals are characterized by increased percentages of white pine pollen, hemlock pollen, and yellow birch seeds, and by decreased levels of charcoal. The “dry” interval of 1700 to 1150 years ago is characterized by increased percentages of paper birch seeds, oak pollen, and aspen pollen, along with high levels of charcoal. The times of climatic change indicated at Hell's Kitchen Lake are nearly synchronous with those based on studies of tree rings, soils, glacial activity, and other pollen studies from various regions of North America, but the direction of these inferred changes is not always the same. This result suggests that the long-wave pattern of the general circulation has been variable during the past 2000 years.  相似文献

Six Black Sea bottom sediments samples were analyzed for their organic content (chloroform extract and humic compounds) by elemental analysis, liquid and gas chromatography, various chemical methods and especially infra-red spectroscopy. Four of these samples came from an euxinic facies (“unit 2”) and two from a normally oxygenated facies below (“unit 3”).Even though important differences exist between the two sets of samples, the origin of the organic matter was found to be the same for both facies; this origin is mixed, with the marine contribution slightly predominant over the terrestrial one.Consequently, the compositional differences originate in the different environmental conditions in the sedimentary basin. More precisely, the euxinic facies appears to “preserve” the organic matter, on both quantitative and qualitative grounds. This effect is due more to the anoxic and toxic nature of the environment than to the reducing conditions.The sulfur incorporation in relatively small molecules does not proceed by a rapid biochemical pathway, but by slow and abiotic reactions.  相似文献

The thermodynamic stability of products obtained from the high-temperature treatment of municipal solid wastes and their associated residues (bottom ash, fly ash, filter cake, optional additives) can be estimated by calculation of their free energy of hydration ΔGhydr by a polyhedral approach. This approach has been applied on a series of 23 samples originating from high-temperature treatment processes operated under a range of conditions, and 3 thoroughly characterised standards. For vitreous or vitrocrystalline samples, it is demonstrated that Si and Ca contents clearly control their thermodynamic stability, and that the type of incineration process plays only a minor role. Silicon directly influences the durability of the samples, while Ca governs the pH during corrosion, which in turn affects the thermodynamic stability. It is also shown that there is a tight inverse relationship between the calculated thermodynamic stability of the samples and their rates of dissolution under aggressive conditions of corrosion. Attempts to compare the results to the large literature database of results obtained from nuclear high-level waste glasses, their proxies and other analogs (ancient and commercial glasses) are limited by sample preparation constraints. It is however concluded that the calculated thermodynamic stability of these “waste glasses” offers a valid estimate for their relative quality and, in turn, for their durability.  相似文献

The maceral and microlithotype compositions of coals representative of the different coal seams of the Ramagundam and Kothagudem coalfields, Godavari Valley Basin, are compared with those of the Ib River, Talcher, South Karanpura, Hura, and Brahmani coalfields. The vitrite + clarite—“Intermidiates”—durite + fusite + shale (<20%) triangular diagram places these coals in the area of non-coking coals, clearly distinct from the coking and semi-coking coals. The vitrinite reflectance is low (Rormoilaver: 0.38–0.71%), far below the coking-coal range. Thus, based on petrographic composition and rank, these coals are of non-coking nature. A triangular diagram is proposed delineating the coking, semi-coking and non-coking coal areas for the Gondwana coals of India.  相似文献

The proved tendency of chalcopyrite (with pyrite and pyrrhotite) to accumulate in the relatively ferruginous tops of the traprock intrusions and of pyrrhotite (with pyrite and chalcopyrite) in their relatively magnesial bottoms has no behavioral analogy with any of the petrogenic constituents, but shows a correlation with the behavior of sulfur. This “two-peak” phenomenon is explainable, by liquation of the sulfidic melt accompanied by fractionation by gravity concurrent with upward migrations of sulfur and the chalcophiles, as volatile mobile compounds, on gradual cooling of the sulfidic melt. — V.P. The usefulness of an “effective” trap depth to approximate the group of closely spaced trap depths responsible for the low temperature thermoluminescence in meteorites is evaluated on the basis of its success when used with the TL equivalent dose method to determine terrestrial ages of Antarctic meteorites. The ages determined in this way agree in every instance with terrestrial age determinations based on 14C, 26Al, 36Cl, and 53Mn. The application of an “effective” trap depth in this TL dating technique in no way implies that the TL signal actually arises from a single trap depth.  相似文献

The review presented covers: (a) historical introduction; (b) some analytical comments; (c) some peculiarities of the As geochemistry in environment; (d) an estimation of coal Clarke value of As; (e) some coals enriched in As; (f) mode of As occurrence in coal; (g) factors influencing the As distribution in coal matter and coal bed; (h) genetic topics; (i) some topics related to environmental impact of As by the coal combustion.The World average As content in coals (coal Clarke of As) for the bituminous coals and lignites are, respectively, 9.0±0.8 and 7.4±1.4 ppm. On an ash basis, these contents are higher: 50±5 and 49±8 ppm, respectively. Therefore, As is a very coalphile element: it has strong affinity to coal matter — organic and (or) inorganic but obligatory authigenic. The coalphile affinity of As is like that for Ge or S.There is strong regional variability of As distribution due to geologic variability of the individual coal basins. For example, bituminous coals in Eastern Germany, Czech Republic and SE China are enriched in As, whereas the coals in South Africa or Australia are very depleted compared to coal Clarke of As. In general, some relationship exists between As content and its mode of occurrence in coals. Typically, at high As content, sulphide sites dominate (pyrite and other more rare sulphides), whereas at low As content, Asorg dominates, both being authigenic. A contribution of the terrigenic As (in silicates) is usually minor and of the biogenic Asbio (derived from coal-forming plants) is poorly known.Both organic and inorganic As can exist not only as chemically bound form but also in the sorbed (acid leacheable) arsenate form. With increasing coal rank, sorbed exchangeable arsenate content decreases, with a minimum in the coking coals (German data: the Ruhr coals).Relations of As content in coal to ash yield (or its partitioning in sink–float fractions) and to coal petrographic composition are usually complicated. In most cases, these relations are controlled by main site (form) of As — Aspyr or Asorg. If Aspyr dominates, an As accumulation in heavy fractions (or in high-ash coals) is observed, and if Asorg dominates, it is enriched in medium-density fractions (or low- and medium-ash coals). Arsenic is in part accumulated in the inertinite vs. vitrinite (Asorg ?).There are four genetic types of As accumulation on coal: two epigenetic and two syngenetic: (1) Chinese type—hydrothermal As enrichment, sometimes similar to known Carlin type of As-bearing telethermal gold deposits; (2) Dakota type—hypergene enrichment from ground waters draining As-bearing tufa host rocks; (3) Bulgarian type—As enrichment resulting from As-bearing waters entered coal-forming peat bogs from sulphide deposit aureoles; (4) Turkish type—volcanic input of As in coal-forming peat bog as exhalations, brines and volcanic ash.During coal combustion at power plants, most of the initial As in coal volatilizes into the gaseous phase. At the widely used combustion of pulverized coal, most of Asorg, Aspyr and “shielded” As-bearing micromineral phases escape into gaseous and particulate phase and only minor part of Asclay remains in bottom ash. The dominant fraction of escaping As is in fly ash. Because 97–99% of the fly ash is collected by electrostatic precipitators, the atmospheric emission of As (solid phase and gaseous) is usually assumed as rather minor (10–30% from initial As in coal). However, fly ash disposal creates some difficult environmental problems because it is potentially toxic in natural waters and soils. The As leaching rate from ash disposal is greatly controlled by the ash chemistry. In natural environment, As can be readily leached from acid (SiO2-rich) bituminous coal ashes but can be very difficult from alkali (CaO-rich) lignite ashes.If the Aspyr form dominates, conventional coal cleaning may be an efficient tool for the removing As from coal. However, organic-bound or micromineral arsenic (“shielded” grains of As-bearing sulphides) are not removed by this procedure.Some considerations show that “toxicity threshold” of As content in coal (permissible concentration for industrial utility) may be in the range 100–300 ppm As. However, for different coals (with different proportions of As-forms), and for different combustion procedures, this “threshold” varies.  相似文献

The composition of organic matter (OM) in pine vegetation and soil samples from a pine forest which was charred by a wildfire was analyzed using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) of solvent extracts to study the effects of thermal alteration on soil organic matter (SOM). The NMR data revealed the presence of unaltered biomolecules (cellulose, proteins) and low contents of aromatic C (15%) in the charred pine wood and cones while the charred soil samples exhibited higher contents of aromatic C (39–56%). The solvent extraction of charred and uncharred plant and soil samples yielded diterpenoids, triterpenoids, steroids, a series of aliphatic lipids, phenols and carbohydrates indicating the predominant input of higher plant OM and minor contributions from microorganisms and/or fauna. The lower yield of solvent extractable aliphatic lipids in the charred samples versus the uncharred samples suggests that these compounds are thermally degraded during a wildfire. Molecular markers for the burning of cellulose (levoglucosan, mannosan, galactosan) were detected in all charred samples. The comparison of charred and uncharred samples allowed the identification of unaltered pine derived biomolecules and their thermal alteration products in the charred samples. Terpenoid and steroid biomolecules were in part altered during incomplete combustion to aromatic, unsaturated and polar derivatives (“pyromolecules”) that still retained the characteristic skeleton of their precursors. Since some of the polar degradation products found in the charred soils can be generated either from thermal or microbial degradation, the aromatic and unsaturated hydrocarbon products are preferred as molecular markers for SOM burning. Ratios of biological precursors to aromatic (diterpenoids) or unsaturated products (steroids) indicate that the cyclic lipids in the pine wood and the soil surface horizon were highly altered. In conclusion, the solvent extractable lipids and carbohydrates in charred SOM are valuable, source-specific molecular markers for the burning of plant biomass and for tracing the biogeochemistry of charred residues in soils.  相似文献

We consider the motion of a bubble in a central acceleration field created by gravity or a centrifugal force. In the former case, the bubble moves outwards from and, in the latter, towards the center. We have calculated the characteristic time needed for a bubble to leave or reach the center. The solution obtained provides insight into the processes of thermonuclear supernovae and combustion; in other words, into the interaction between a flame and a turbulent vortex. In the case of combustion, a light bubble of burnt material propagates towards the axis of a strong turbulent vortex faster than it drifts in the direction of rotation of the vortex. It is expected that the development of bubbles should prevent the formation of “pockets” at the flame front, similar to those predicted by a simplified model of turbulent combustion in a constant density flux. In the case of a thermonuclear supernova in a deflagration burning regime, it is shown that light products of burning rise from the center of the white dwarf substantially more rapidly than the thermonuclear flame front propagates. As a result, a flame cannot completely burn the central part of the star, and instead is pushed to the outer layers of the white dwarf. The effect of bubble motion (large-scale convection) makes spherically symmetric models for thermonuclear supernovae unrealistic, which is of prime importance for the supernova spectrum and energy. The motion of bubbles is even faster in the case of a rotating white dwarf; under certain conditions, the centrifugal force may dominate over the gravitational force. To test this theory, we have carried out numerical simulations of supernovae explosions for various sizes of the burned region in the core of the presupernova. We have derived a relation between the rate of large-scale convection and the size of the burned region, which is specified by the rate of the deflagration in the thermonuclear burning.  相似文献

Smoke particulate matter from deciduous trees (angiosperms) subjected to controlled burning, both under smoldering and flaming conditions, was sampled by high volume air filtration on precleaned quartz fiber filters. The filtered particles were extracted with dichloromethane and the crude extracts were methylated for separation by thin layer chromatography into hydrocarbon, carbonyl, carboxylic acid ester and polar fractions. Then, the total extract and individual fractions were analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The major organic components directly emitted in smoke particles were straight chain aliphatic compounds from vegetation wax and triterpenoid acids (biomarkers) from gums and mucilages. The major natural products altered by combustion included derivatives from phenolic (lignin) and monosaccharide (cellulose) biopolymers and oxygenated and aromatic products from triterpenoids. Steroid biomarkers and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) were also present, however, as minor constituents. Although the concentrations of organic compounds in smoke aerosols are highly variable and dependent on combustion temperature, the biomarkers and their combustion alteration products are in these cases source specific. The major components are adsorbed or trapped on particulate matter and thus may be utilized as molecular tracers in the atmosphere for determining fuel type and source contributions from biomass burning.  相似文献

福建省煤系石墨赋存层位为中二叠统童子岩组含煤岩系地层,该地层中的煤炭,由于受岩浆侵入及构造运动作用,已变质成无烟煤,如受温度与压力的作用更强烈,进一步变质成隐晶质石墨;无烟煤与煤系石墨在宏观上难以区别,相关规范仅以固定碳和挥发分作为确定石墨的工业指标,是无法对两者进行区分的。鉴于此,综合国内对煤系石墨工业指标划分,结合《福建省煤系石墨赋存规律与资源评价》课题的最新研究成果,尝试采用以固定碳、挥发分作为划分无烟煤与煤系(隐晶质)石墨的基础指标,以石墨碳层间距d 002和拉曼光谱参数R 2作为精确指标,建立煤系石墨鉴定方法体系,以便科学评价和利用煤系石墨资源。  相似文献
