A geostatistical analysis of the remotely-sensed lineament fabric data associated with the North Almora Thrust of Garhwal Himalaya has been carried out The analysis of data provided 18 major orientations of the lineament density girdles. Further statistical treatment of these derived lineaments using the method of analysts of directional data indicates that the lineaments can be classified into genetic groups. The result indicates that the North Almora Thrust and Kaliasaur Fault are not genetically related and occurred in separate phases of tectonic activities. The results also show that the Alaknanda river is flowing through a tectonically-controlled valley. The study suggests the suitability of statistical methods in lineament-fabric-data analysis for tectonic interpretations.  相似文献

The present work aims to identify, isolate, map and analyse the lineament patterns associated with the Great Boundary Fault (GBF) using remote sensing techniques and to draw some significant conclusions regarding its tectonogenesis therefrom. The locus of the line separating the two distinct patterns of structural trend lines observed on a structural trend map, prepared from the Landsat images, represents the ground disposition of the GBF. The rose diagram plotted for the lineament orientations of different sectors indicates that the whole area was subjected to a similar stress pattern, yet the intensity of stress in each sector was significantly different from the other. The lineament intersection density map clearly demarcates the areas of folding and faulting associated with the GBF. Tectonic anomalies plotted for the area through lineament analysis represent the signatures of prominent surface and sub-surface tectonic elements. The work presents an example for the study of a Precambrian fault system using remote sensing techniques.  相似文献

An area of 2300 sq km s has been mapped around Bundi based on aerial photo-interpretation, with selected field checks at key areas. The oldest rocks exposed are Aravallis comprising a thick pile of argillaceous sediments with thin interbeds of quartzite. The Aravalli rocks have been subjected to two phases of folding and have undergone a low grade of metamorphism. The Vindhyan rocks which comprise arenaceons, argillaceous and calcareous sediments constitute the Kaimur, Rewa and Bhander groups. These rocks occur south of the Aravallis with a faulted contact (Great Boundary Fault) for the major part, and also with unconformable contact at places. The upliftment of the Aravallis on the northern side of the Great Boundary Fault might have created the Vindhyan Basin south of it. The movement appears to have been gradual, keeping pace with the Vindhyan sedimentation, and was possibly revived even after the Vindhyan sedimentation as evidenced by the presence of folding and faulting in Vindhyans in the vicinity of the boundary fault. Strike faulting parallel to the boundary fault is very conspicious resulting in the repetition of the Vindhyan strata in the area east of Bundi. The Vindhyans of Bundi area indicate deposition of sediments in shallow water coastal barrier and lagoonal set-up as evidenced by sedimentary features such as tabular current bedding, ripple marks, huge blankets of sandstone, alternation of shale and limestone etc. Geomorphologically the area may be divided into three units namely:-(a) Pediment on Aravallis, (b) Structural hills on Vindhyan, expressing generally as hogback and cuesta ridges and strike valleys, and (c) Piedmont and alluvial plains (Chambal valley). Optical and microwave remote sensing data are used in conjunction with a digital elevation model to map lineaments in the central parts of the Aravalli region, Rajasthan, western India. Lineament maps interpreted from each data-set are subsequently combined to derive a composite lineament map of the area. Rose plots are used to identify the prominent trends of the lineaments and compared with published structural map of the study area. Three major trends are identified, namely, the NE–SW, NNE–SSW and EW, which are interpreted to be, related to the DF1, DF2 and DF4 deformation phases identified by the previous workers through field studies. The lineaments are classified as fold axes or faults, and a total of 10-fold axes and 30 faults mapped in the area.  相似文献

On the basis of data recorded by a thermal infrared multispectral scanner (TIMS) carried on board an aircraft laboratory, maps of volcanic regions in Russia were compiled on which portions of lava dating to different periods were identified. SIR-C (Shuttle) data, processed by computer, made it possible to obtain distinct boundaries of lava flows with cross-polarization. A three-dimensional digital model of the Northern Fissure of the Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption, on which TIMS, Zeiss, and SIR-C data were plotted, was constructed. A lineament analysis was made it possible to genetically classify cinder cones on the eastern slope of the Klyuchevskoy volcano, and a zone of areal volcanism was defined.  相似文献

Synoptivity and the exemplified fracture systems exhibited by the space borne imagery data has helped in solving many of the geological enigma in various parts of the world. The study conducted, using such remotly sensed data, in Jhalawar anticline, part of Proterozoic Cratonic Vindhyan Basin, Rajasthan, India, led to infer the history of tectonic evolution of peribasinal deformation which has been a matter of controversy for a century and more. In Landsat MSS data the Jhalawar region displays a panorama of lineaments and their analysis through azimuthal frequency diagrams, isofracture, lineament incidence and lineament intersection incidence density maps shows that the mean orientation of the lineaments fall in NW-SE and NE-SW and the shape of the various lineament density contours also show NE-SW and NW-SE orientations. In aerial photographs the area exhibits four sets of lineaments in NE-SW, NW-SE, N-S and E-W directions. Amongst these the former two sets are expressed as wide open master fracture systems with prolific vegetation fills along them and the latter two sets are characteristically observed as thin vegetation linears with frequent strike slip faulting along them. The further analysis of these fracture/lineament systems derived from multi-level remote sensing data shows that the Jhalawar anticline, which followed the pattern of flexural slip fold mechanism, was evolved by horizontally disposed σ1 (greatest principal stress) and 3σ (least principal stress) with the former oriented in NE-SW and the latter aligned in NW-SE directions with vertically disposed 2σ. The inference of such palaeostress environment of the Jhalawar region lead in the identification of a buried rigid basement high southwest of Jhalawar anticline, beneath the Deccan pile and loci of ground water, silica sand and probable igneous plug.  相似文献

The Bundi-Indergarh sector in southeast Rajasthan is characterized by folded and faulted Vindhyan rocks that are exposed as NE-SW trending long parallel ridges. The sector is separated from older rocks by the Great Boundary Thrust and is traversed by younger cross faults at several localities. The thematic maps of geomorphology, slope, vegetation index and morphotectonic parameters of Bundi-Indergarh sector have been prepared using IRS ID L1SS III and WiFS and, Landsat ETM digital data. These theme are integrated in GIS environment to assess the neotectonic potential in the area. The neotectonic potential map of the sector has been generated that indicates relative potential values as high (55–85), medium (35–55) and low (5–35) on 100-point scale. The observed four high potential zones in the area are located at the intersection of NE-SW and NW-SE lineaments. The study brings out methodology for assessing active tectonic potential of the area.  相似文献

Kimberlite clan of rocks (KCR) comprising of mantle derived ultrabasic rocks such as Kimberlite and related Lamproites and Lamprophyres,are the primary source of diamond. Locating the KCR is first step in the diamond exploration, which is highly challenging in the field due to (i) very small spatial extent of KCR pipes (ii) high susceptibility of KCR to weathering and alteration on exposure to atmosphere, owing to their ultrabasic composition. Predictive statistical models using the geospatial data are often used to minimize the search and the present work attempts to apply the Frequency Ratio (FR) based predictive model in GIS to prepare KCR potential zone maps based on the relationship between the already explored KCR locations and the factors that favour their emplacement. Wajrakarur Kimberlite Field (WKF) in the Dharawar Craton of India, with more than 30 explored kimberlite pipes is selected as the study area. Geospatial technology has been used to generate thematic maps such as known KCR pipe locations, lineament density, lineament buffer zone, lineament intersection buffer zone, drainage anomaly buffer zone, geomorphology, and classified image showing distribution of mineral such as clay, iron oxide and calcrete, which are surface expression of KCR emplacement from various sources. Landsat 8 OLI satellite data, ASTER DEM were used in preparing the geomorphology, lineament map, and band ratio based mineral classified map. The thematic maps were converted to raster grid of 10 sq. m. FR values for each unit in each thematic map were obtained by correlating the spatial relationship between thematic map and the 25 locations of the 33 “known” KCR locations in WKF used for FR modelling. Cumulative FR value were obtained by carrying out overlay analysis of the thematic maps, which are classified into five classes by Natural Breaking method as (i)Very Low Favourable (VLF), (ii) Low Favourable (LF), (iii)Moderate favourable (MF), (iv)High Favourable (HF), and (v)Very High Favourable (VHF). The model was validated by ground verification at random sites and statistical method. During the ground visit, we observed KCR-like lithology’s at four new sites that have calcrete exposure at limited spatial extent and also some pieces of ultrabasic rocks similar to the explored sites. To ascertain their chemical composition of the samples were plotted in the MgO-K2O-Al2O3 ternary diagram. All the four samples fall in the Kimberlite/Lamproite field confirming them to be KCR. The FR predictive model was also validated statistically. Total 13 locations, including 8 site out of 33 known KCR locations, one newly discovered pipe by GSI and the four locations discovered during this study were used for the validation. Statistical validation shows that 84% of model accuracy is achieved. The study reveals that Lineament Intersection, and circular drainage anomaly in 3rd order streams, lineament density are significant themes in predicting KCR emplacement zones. The study demonstrates the utility of statistical based model such as FR model in predicting the location of KCR emplacement, even with statistically insignificant distribution of KCRs and can be applied elsewhere in the world to locate the KCRs. In the process, we report discovery of four new KCR pipes in the WKF.  相似文献

The 2001 Bhuj earthquake (Mw 7.7), one of the most severe earthquakes in the recent history of India, reactivated various existing active faults. It is manifested in the form of coseismic ground fissures/cracks and upheaval of land in the form of bumps. Identification and reactivation of Loriya Fault is established by 1—Geomorphic changes with the help of digital imagery (LISS III images). 2—Coseismic changes through ground checks and 3—Geophysical signatures through magnetic and gravity survey. A lineament cutting the north-western part of the Pur River alluvial fan has been revealed by satellite imagery. The streams flowing along the lineament add to the evidences of a weak plane, while the occurrence of coseismic ground fissures confirms the existence of an active fault. No dip slip movement is recorded in the trenches made across the Loriya active fault while the en-echelon pattern of ground fissures suggest strike slip movement along the fault due to 2001 earthquake.  相似文献

Lineament extraction approach allowed mapping of larger number of lineaments in a classical manner in tectonic and structural studies. In the present study, various techniques were adopted to extract lineaments using Landsat ETM+ images. To remove the biasness of the images, some pre-processing techniques like stream ordering, band differencing, colour texturing were employed to enhance the edges of the structural features. Extracted lineaments and its distribution and orientation were mapped using ArcGIS Spatial analyst tool. Results of the study showed maximum number of lineaments were oriented in the ENE–SWS direction with 63° overall inclination. Accuracy assessment and validation were made with respect to visual interpretation and overlaying the lineament on Digital Topographic Model as well as with respect to an existing geological lineament map of the study site. The result of accuracy assessment indicates higher compatibility of Central Indian Suture with the geological map of the study area.  相似文献

本文介绍了遥感、物化探、地质等信息复合图像增强处理的基本技术方法.对多源地学信息复合处理图像新发现的色异常、线性和环形构造的分布、影像特征做了较详细的叙述;并探讨了该区的环形和线性构造对多金属矿的控矿作用,认为香花岭地区是环形和线形构造的复合控矿,在此基础上建立了香花岭矿田遥感影像模式:在环形构造内,发育北西向和北东向线性构造组合,交叉成“井”字型格式,控制金属矿的分布.根据已知矿床特征和相应影像特征的关系,提出细密线性影像和环、线交切影像两种找矿标志,指出上述标志在湘南花岗岩发育地区具有普遍找矿意义.文章最后根据多种信息综合分析,圈定了两个找矿有望地段,取得了良好的找矿效果.  相似文献

GIS. a potential tool for facilitating the generation and use of thematic information, has been applied to groundwater potentiality of the Shamri micro-watershed in Shimla Taluk. The role of various parameters, namely, drainage. lineament. lithology . slope and landuse have been emphasised for delineation of groundwater potential iones. IRS-I C IAN and LISS Ill FCC merged satellite images on 1:25000 scale and Topographic map no. 53L/4 SI together with field traverses have been used as the data source. A multi-criteria evaluation following probability weighted approach has been applied for overlay analysis that allows a linear combination of weights of each thematic map with the individual capability value. 1 he resultant map indicates a high groundwater potentiality in the flood plains, river terraces and river channels in the vicinity of the Shamri nala. Other sites of high potentiality include places showing break in slopes and criss-crossing of lineaments.  相似文献

Lineament patterns detected from remotely sensed data provide useful information to geoscientists, specially in the study of basement tectonics, groundwater targetting and mineral exploration. Improvements in the spatial resolution of satellite images have resulted in the detection of short and faint lineaments which have hitherto gone unnoticed The IRS-1A LISS-II data offers a significant improvement in spatial resolution as compared to the Landsat MSS. A set of computer programmes developed for analysis of lineaments were used to study the parameters such as lineament frequency, length and density in order to quantify the added information derived using IRS-1A LISS-II images. The incremental contribution of LISS-II images are of the order of 100 per cent for lineament frequency and about 60 per cent for total line kilometers of lineaments detected.  相似文献

Fortran 77 programs have been developed for summarisation of lineament pattern and fracture traces on MS-DOS based micro-computer system. Two menu driven programmes CLAFY and HIST perform the above task. CLAFY reads the X, Y co-ordinates of lineament and points from an input file and produces an output file containing azimuth frequency, total length and average length for 18 predefined azimuth classes at 10 degree interval. HIST reads the output generated by CLAFY and offers an option to generate histograms of azimuth frequency/total length/average length on a dot matric printer. CLAFY and HIST were tested using digitised lineament co-ordinates derived from lineament maps of parts of Central Kerala region, southwestern, India which were prepared based on Landsat imagery interpretation. The programmes afford repetitive manipulation of large quantities of lineament data without ignoring short and /or faint lineaments which have geologic significance.  相似文献

The South Armorican shear zone is one of the major occurrences of Variscan basement in Europe. The objectives of the study were to compile a lineament and a structural map from remotely sensed SPOT imagery. Transparent color films, enhanced by high-pass filtering and by stretching color composites, and spatial filtered images were analysed. The major structure mapped corresponds to a dextral transcurrent shear belt in which C and S axes have been described. Late Paleozoic and Tertiary fracturations truncate these structures. The localisation, extension and geometry of granite domes were also precised. Lastly, this study provides a good example of structural interpretation of a moderate-relief terrain using high-resolution SPOT imagery.  相似文献

Remotely-sensed satellite data of Landsat 5 (TM) and IRS-1A (LISS II) covering parts of central portion of Chotanagapur plateau have been analysed visually to delineate some prominent lineaments in Ranchi district and its adjoining area. One of the most prominent lineament “Ranchi mega lineament? has been analysed in this paper. This lineament is a potential site for base metal mineralisation at some places, and it acts as good groundwater conduit in the region. No earlier attempt to map this entire structural unit as a separate entity is known. Geophysical bouguer gravity anomaly map, lithological and structural maps have some remarkable correlation with this lineament. In the present paper authors have tried to analyse the lineament with respect to its tectonic, mineralisation and groundwater prospects. Resistivity survey carried in close proximity of this lineament at selected sites, indicate that rocks are well fractured at depth. Available lithological and structural map support this lineament as a shear near Purulia (W.B.) and also having base-metal mineralisation potential in this area. Authors opine that existing gravity anomaly map may be further augmented in the light of present study.  相似文献
