Results of spectrophotometric determination of plant pigments (chlorophylls, phaeo-pigments, and carotenoids) in the upper 3-cm layer of the littoral and sublittoral lake bottom sediments are presented for the depths corresponding to water transparency of 0.2, 0.5; 1, 2, and 3. Pigment characteristics are analyzed for the conditions, theoretically ensuring the possibility of photosynthesis and development of microphytobenthos. The presence of live algae in the bottom sediments is confirmed by directly counting the cells capable of positive photokinesis. The specific character of pigments' horizontal distribution is determined by a circum-bathymetric structure of the lake sediment complex and by illumination conditions. Potentially active, “pure” chlorophyll prevails in the euphotic area in the zone of light saturation, whereas phaeo-pigments prevail in the area of limited illumination. Regression equations describing relations between pigments concentration and depth have been obtained. The ratio between chlorophyll concentration in microphytobenthos and that of phytoplankton in the lake is estimated.  相似文献

测量表明,哈纳斯湖最大水深达188.5m,平均水深达120.1m,优质淡水容量达53.78×10~8m~3,均在我国湖泊中居突出地位。横断面为罕见的典型箱形,断陷作用仍在强烈进行之中。湖底表层沉积物粒度参数之分布主要受纵向搬运作用控制,局部受横向搬运作用影响。沉积物的矿物学特征与元素分布特征明显受沉积环境控制。沉积物中营养元素含量总体偏低。~(210)Pb法测得平均沉积速率为0.52mm/a,难以补偿断陷作用,湖盆将继续加深。  相似文献

The Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer ranks among the most overdrafted aquifers in the United States due to intensive irrigation. Concern over declining water levels has increased focus on understanding the sources of recharge. Numerous oxbow lakes overlie the aquifer that are often considered hydraulically disconnected from the groundwater system due to fine-grained bottom sediments. In the current study, groundwater levels in and around a 445-ha oxbow lake-wetland in Mississippi were monitored for a 2-year period that included an unusually long low-water condition in the lake (>17 months), followed by a high-water event lasting over 4 months before returning to earlier low-water levels. The high-water pulse (>4 m rise) provided a unique opportunity to track the impact in the underlying alluvial aquifer. During low-water conditions, groundwater flowed westward beneath the lake. Following the lake rise, groundwater beneath and near the perimeter responded as quickly as the same day, with more delayed responses moving away from the lake. Within 2 months, a groundwater mound formed near the centre of the oxbow (>3 m increase), with a reversal in the local hydraulic gradient towards the east. Flow returned to a westward gradient when the lake level dropped back below 0.3 m. Analysis of precipitation and nearby river stage could not account for the observed behavior. Recharge to the aquifer is attributed to rising water levels spreading over point bar deposits and into the surrounding forested wetlands where preferential flow pathways are likely to exist due to buried and decomposing tree remains. An earlier study in the wetland demonstrated an increasing redox potential in isolated zones, consistent with the existence of preferential flow pathways through the bottom sediments (Lahiri & Davidson, 2020). Retaining high-water levels in oxbow lakes could be a relatively low-cost water management practice for enhancing aquifer recharge.  相似文献

Lacustrine sediments were sampled from the inaccessible acidic (pH = 0.43) Nakadake crater lake of Aso Volcano, Japan by a simple method. The sediments contain an extremely high content (74 wt.%) of sulfur, which exits as elemental sulfur, gypsum and anhydrite. The abundant elemental sulfur is likely formed by the reaction of SO2 and H2S gases and by the SO2 disproportionation reaction in magmatic hydrothermal system below the crater lake. Based on the sulfur content of sediments and measurements of elevation change of the crater bottom, the sulfur accumulation rate at the Nakadake crater lake was calculated as 250 tonne/day, which is comparable with the SO2 emission rate (200–600 tonne/day) from the Nakadake crater. The sediments include a small amount (9%) of clear glass shards that are apparently not altered in spite of the high reactivity of hyperacid lake water. This finding suggests that the clear glass shards are fragments of recently emitted magmas from fumaroles on the bottom of the crater lake and the magma emissions continuously occur even in quiescent periods.  相似文献

The Markermeer is a large and shallow man-made freshwater lake in the Netherlands, characterized by its high turbidity. As part of a study aiming to mitigate this high turbidity, we studied the water–bed exchange processes of the lake’s muddy bed. The upper centimeter’s–decimeter’s of the lake bed sediments mainly consists of soft anoxic mud. Recent measurements have proved the existence of a thin oxic layer on top of this soft anoxic mud. This oxic layer, which is much easier to be eroded than the anoxic mud, is believed to be related with Markermeer’s high-turbidity levels. Our hypothesis is that the thin oxic layer develops from the anoxic mud, enhanced by bioturbation. Actually, we will demonstrate that it is the bioturbated state of the bed that increases its erodability, and not the oxidation state of the sediments. In particular, we will refer to bioturbation caused by meiobenthic fauna. The objective of this study is therefore to determine the influence of the development of the thin oxic layer on the water–bed exchange processes, as well as to establish the role of bioturbation on those processes. This is done by quantifying the erosion rate as a function of bed shear stresses, and at different stages of the development of the oxic layer. Our experiments show that bioturbation increases the rate at which Markermeer sediments are eroded by almost an order of magnitude. The short-term fine sediment dynamics in Markermeer are found to be driven by the complex and highly dynamic interactions between physics, chemistry, and biology. Finally, the long-term fine sediment dynamics are driven by the erosion of the historical deposits in the lake’s bed, which is only possible after bioturbation, and which leads to an increase of the stock of sediments in the lake’s muddy bed.  相似文献

In deep stratified coastal lagoons, hypoxic waters that result from phytoplankton decomposition in the stratified bottom waters are often associated with eutrophication. Decomposing biomass reaches the bottom sediments and enriches them with nutrients and organic matter. Nutrients trapped in sediments are released with time and promote excessive phytoplankton growth in the surface water. Because eutrophication in lentic ecosystems progresses in a self-fuelling cycle, outflow is the only available process for exporting excess nutrients to recover from eutrophication. Thus, rehabilitation of eutrophic coastal lagoons that have limited seawater interactions is a long term process. The importance of nutrient release from sediments on eutrophication and the delay effect of internal nutrient loading on the rehabilitation of a eutrophic coastal lagoon with limited seawater exchange were analysed in this study.An ecological model that couples the water column and the sediment diagenesis processes, was developed for water quality management purposes. Our findings indicate that the recovery of the Lagoon from eutrophication will be taken decades even in the absence of external nutrient loading. Therefore, we suggest applying rehabilitation strategies that control the nutrient fluxes from sediments for a faster recovery from heavily eutrophic conditions. Land-based nutrient sources must also be controlled because they feed water column and the bottom sediments with nutrients.  相似文献

The phase transition problem of methane hydrate in porous sediments is solved. Based on the obtained solution, the impact of faulting on the stability conditions of gas hydrates is investigated by the numerical modeling of the filtration and thermal regimes in the sedimentary cover of the Central Basin of Lake Baikal within the segment of the anomalous behavior of the bottom simulating reflector (BSR). It is assumed that such behavior is caused by the tectonic action. The calculations testify to the plausibility of the proposed model of formation of the anomalous area with total decomposition of the contained hydrates. It is shown that dissociation of gas hydrates in sediments due to faulting and the subsequent uplift of the products of these transformations along the incipient channel toward the bottom of the lake can result in the extensive accumulation of gas hydrates on this surface. It is also shown that if the total amount of the free gas, which left the hydrate dissociation zone, reached the level of the lake surface at normal pressure and temperature, its volume could be equivalent to the resources of a medium-size gas field. The results of numerical modeling the violation of the gas-hydrate stability conditions in Lake Baikal sediments can also be valid for the other regions with hydrate-bearing sediments if the case specific conditions and regional tectonic activity are taken into account.  相似文献

Detailed examination of sedimentary cores retrieved from Sugan Lake in the northern Qaidam Basin of northwest China’s Tibetan Plateau reveal that fine laminated beddings form in the sediments where water depth exceeds 3 m. Seasonal surface sediments trapped at the bottom of the lake suggest that sediments deposited during summer and autumn are mainly light colored monohydrocalcites, while those deposited in winter are dark organic matter, indicating that varve layers form under modern limnological conditions. Continuous varve sediments comprising four types have accumulated in the upper 5.5 m of Core SG03I from the center of the lake. All types exhibit clear seasonality indicative of annual deposition. Varve counts correspondence with 210Pb dates on recent sediments in the upper core suggest the continuous varves of the upper 5.5 m of the core formed in the late Holocene (2670 a BP). The Sugan Lake varve sequence is the first demonstration of annually laminated sediments re-ported in arid western China.  相似文献

Data on the microelement composition of bottom sediment and water samples from Lake Dautkul for recent years are presented. Concentrations of more than 30 chemical elements are determined using instrumental neutron-activation analysis. This allowed the authors to reveal the regularities in the distribution and accumulation of chemical elements in water and bottom sediments. It is shown that bottom sediments exhibit a cumulative effect and prolonged activity, which adversely affect the aquatic medium and can serve an indicator of anthropogenic impact on the area under consideration.  相似文献

依据浅型湖泊生态系统的多稳定态理论,在富营养湖泊治理过程中,当外来污染得到有效控制时,通过人工重建水生植被可以加速湖泊的生态恢复。在五里湖中,挺水植物和浮叶植物都能很好地生长,水底光照不足是沉水植物难以生长的主要原因。在自然条件下建成了永久性挺水植物群落和浮叶植物群落,在人工控制的围隔环境中改善了水底光照条件,建成了沉水植物群落。但这些沉水植物仍不能渡过夏季,主要原因是湖水过深和水温较高,降低水位和建造人工浅滩可为五里湖沉水植被恢复创造有利条件。本研究可为富营养水体的水质控制和植被恢复提供多种实用技术,但在水生植被的结构与环境功能等方面仍需开展深入的定量研究。  相似文献

The distribution of oil hydrocarbons in bottom sediments of Onega Lake was examined. Their qualitative and quantitative composition was examined by methods of IR-spectroscopy and chromatography-mass spectrometry. The background concentrations of oil hydrocarbons in bottom sediments are evaluated and the polluted area is determined. The major regularities in oil hydrocarbon transformations under natural conditions and anthropogenic impact are identified. The quantitative development of the bacterial groups that take part in the transformation of complex organic substances and oil product derivatives in the case of emergency pollution of Petrozavodsk Bay water area by oil products is demonstrated.  相似文献

The results of first application of automated bottom station for studying chemical exchange across the water-bed interface (IO RAS lander) were obtained for the case of sediments in the northwestern Black Sea near Gelendzhik (Golubaya Bay). The lander is equipped with bottom chambers, sensors of environmental characteristics, and samplers, allowing fluxes of chemical elements through the water-bed interface to be determined directly. Bottom sediments were represented by organogenous silts containing hydrogen sulfide. The high activity of diagenetic processes resulted in a higher consumption of O2 by sediments (the flux from the bottom water was 130 mM/(m2/day), high fluxes of biogenic elements (P, Si,) and metals (Mn, Fe). At the same time, fluxes across the water-bed interface were evaluated based on the difference between concentrations of these elements in the near-bed and silt water (Fick’s law). The obtained data demonstrate the priority of direct measurements of fluxes (lander) over the calculation method. The first application of the lander suggests the need for methodological improvements both of engineering character and in chemical-analytical support.  相似文献

Anthropogenic mercury pollution was studied in Kastela Bay (Croatia), 10 years after chloralkaline plant (PVC) stopped production. The concentration of total mercury determined in sediments which are composed mainly of calcite and quartz, are in the range 14,280-30,400 ng/g. The values are higher than reported in the literature for Elbe and Seine estuaries and also above 25,000 ng/g used for criterion in remediation project in Minamata Bay. The concentration of methylmercury 6.05-36.74 ng/g are typical for slightly to highly contaminated estuarine sediments. The low ratio of methylmercury to total mercury found in sediments of Kastela Bay is in the range 0.04-0.18%. It can be explained that in this region predominate conditions which do not promote in-situ methylation. Sediments were found to be highly anoxic. Concentrations of total mercury in unfiltered surface waters are in the range 69-145 ng/l and in unfiltered bottom waters in the range 230-1,418 ngl(-1). High concentrations found in bottom waters suggest that either resuspension or partial dissolution of sediments takes place. An experiment performed on filtered and unfiltered waters showed that about 85% of total mercury in surface water and almost 100% in bottom water was retained on 45 microm filters. To demonstrate contrasts, two pristine estuaries from norths and south Europe were studied. Silicious sediments of Ore estuary (Sweden) and calcareous sediments of Krka estuary (Croatia) have total mercury concentrations close to accepted background level. The ratio of methylmercury to total mercury is < or = 1% in all samples with one exception. The highest observed ratio (2.70%) was in the surface sediment from E2 station in Krka estuary measured in March 2000. This location is suitable for studying methylmercury formation in pristine environment.  相似文献

Salsvatn is a 464 m deep lake laying 16 m above sea level in North Trøndelag, Norway. The lake was isolated from the sea some 3,000 years ago. It is assumed that salt-water in the deepest 50 m of the lake is the remain of sea water being trapped in the lake at this time. The concentration of cloride in the salt-water layer corresponds to a salinity of 29‰ in ordinary sea water. Hydrography of the lake and changes in some components of the salt water compared with ordinary sea water are discussed. Comparison is made with changes in the stagnant layers of the Black Sea and Lake Rørholtjorden. The latest is another lake with old sea-water at its bottom. Surface sediment samples have been collected from the freshwater and salt-water layers in Lake Rørholtfjorden and from the salt-water layer of Lake Salsvatn. Some chemical components of the sediments and interstitial water have been analysed and discussed.  相似文献

水生植物是湖泊生态系统的重要组成部分,沉积物-水界面是湖泊生态系统中营养盐循环的重要界面,因而研究水生植物对沉积物-水界面微观剖面的影响具有重要意义.本文利用轮叶黑藻作为研究对象,研究了来自于香溪河、太湖和东湖3个样点的沉积物及上覆水中N、P等理化性质,并利用微电极研究轮叶黑藻对3种沉积物-水界面微观剖面是否有影响.实验结果表明:轮叶黑藻生长迅速.增长率因沉积物不同而不同,有一定的耐污能力;轮叶黑藻使水体和沉积物中总氮、总磷含量减少,对水体和底泥有一定的净化作用;轮叶黑藻可使水体溶解氧升高,并使沉积物有氧层厚度增加,改变沉积物的氧化还原电位;轮叶黑藻可能改变了根际微环境中微生物的数量和种类,而使沉积物和上覆水中的pH、N2O和H2S等发生变化.  相似文献

Strzeszynskie Lake was formerly a slightly eutrophic (meso-eutrophic) water body. The aim of the current research was to define variables on both spatial and seasonal internal phosphorus loading from bottom sediments at five stations located in zones varying in depth, oxygenation, macrophyte presence, and uses of the neighboring catchment area. Ex situ experiments done with the use of intact bottom sediment cores have shown that the highest phosphorus release occurred in the deepest part of the lake and reached 3.6?mg?P/m2d under anoxic conditions during summer thermal stratification. In turn, the internal loading from littoral sediments, which were well aerated all year round, was clearly lower. Furthermore, phosphorus accumulation in the bottom sediment was observed to reach a maximum of 1.45?mg?P/m2 d in autumn. A comparison of the internal loading intensity in lake zones with different land uses of the neighboring catchment area has shown slightly higher values at stations adjacent to the forest catchment area than those used for recreation. Changes in the land use of the catchment area of Strzeszynskie Lake, especially the increase in impermeable surfaces, have led to an increased inflow of external loads after heavy rains, resulting in deterioration in water quality and a delayed increase in internal loading.  相似文献
