Summary The propagation of Love waves under the influence of an externally applied magnetic field is studied. The general phase velocity equation is derived and two special cases when the magnetic field is aligned with and transverse to the direction of wave propagation are discussed. in these cases, it is found that the magneto-elastic problem in hand can be reduced to the corresponding problem in pure elasticity.  相似文献

Summary The influence of an external magnetic field on the propagation of purely transverse waves polarized parallel to the plane faces in a homogeneous, initially unstressed, infinitely conducting, elastic flat plate extending to infinity has been investigated. We have found that such waves can be propagated only if the field is normal to the direction of polarization.The effects are of three fold depending on the inclination of the field to the direction of propagation. When the field is normal, it is to decrease the range of modes in which a disturbance of given frequency can be propagated; when parallel, it is to increase the velocity of each mode without decreasing the range of modes of propagation. In both these cases, the different modes can be classified into symmetric and anti-symmetric modes. In the general case, not only the phase velocity and the range of modes are affected over those of purely elastic case but the symmetric and anti-symmetric types of motion are coupled in every mode.  相似文献

Summary The object of the present paper is to investigate magneto-elastic waves and disturbances in initially stressed conducting media. Firstly, the theory of magneto-elastic surface waves in a conducting medium under an initial uniaxial tension has been deduced and then it has been employed to investigate the particular cases of surface waves such as Rayleigh, Love and Stoneley waves. Secondly, propagation of waves in an elastic layer has been considered using the fundamental equations of motion for magneto-elastic waves in conductors under an initial uniaxial tension or compression. This is followed by the case of plane Lamb's problem in a magneto-elastic semi-space under the same initial tension. The final results obtained in the above cases are in agreement with the corresponding classical problems when the initial tension is zero and the magnetic field is absent.  相似文献

Summary The paper is concerned with the investigation of the magneto-elastic waves and disturbances in initially stressed conducting media. Firstly, (a) the steady state response to moving loads in a magneto-elastic initially stressed conducting medium under an uniaxial tension has been discussed. Secondly, (b) the Lamb's problem corresponding to a line load suddenly applied in a magneto-elastic initially stressed conducting half-space bounded by a plane under uniaxial tension has been investigated. On the basis of Biot dynamic theory, an analytic solution of two-dimensional scattering and diffraction of plane SV waves by circular cylindrical canyons in a half space of saturated porous media is presented in this paper for the first time. The solution is obtained by employing the Fourier–Bessel series expansion technique. Parametric studies had been carried out, which includes: the angle of incidence, the frequency of the incident SV wave, the porosity of saturated porous medium and the stiffness and Poisson's ratio of the solid-skeleton. All the outcomes are useful for the seismic analysis of the surface topography conditions.  相似文献

A practical model of partially debonded pipeline embedded in a saturated poroelastic medium is proposed, and the dynamic response of this model to harmonic plane waves is theoretical investigated. Biot׳s poroelastic theory is introduced to describe the dynamic equations of the saturated poroelastic medium, and the potentials obtained from Helmholtz decomposition theorem are expressed by wave function expansion method. The debonding areas around the pipeline are assumed to be filled with water. The disturbed solutions of basic field equations in these areas are expressed in terms of a scalar velocity potential. Different boundary conditions of bonded and debonded areas are adopted, and the expanded coefficients are obtained. An example of one partially debonded area is presented and analyzed. It is found that the stresses in the perfectly bonded and debonded areas show great difference, and the jump of dynamic stress at the connection points between these two areas is great in the case of low frequency. The effect of debonded areas on the dynamic stress under different thicknesses of lining is also examined.  相似文献

Summary Cauchy theory of initial stress has been applied to investigate the influence of uniform initial stress on the propagation of plane waves in an unbounded elastic medium. It is found that if the initial principal stresses are unequal, the velocity depends on the direction in which the wave propagates, whereas when the initial principal stresses are equal, the velocity is independent of the direction of wave propagation.  相似文献

Scattering of antiplane shear waves (SH) in two dimensions by surface and near-surface defects in a homogeneous, isotropic elastic semi-infinite medium has been studied. Attention has been focused here in the range of medium to long wavelengths. A combined finite element and analytical technique has been used to study the problems of scattering by semi-circular and triangular canyons. The results for the former case are compared with the known exact solution and those for the latter case are compared with some available approximate solutions. Finally a problem of multiple scattering by a triangular canyon and a nearby circular tunnel is studied. Numerical results are presented showing the effects of multiple scattering and different angles of incidence. These results are of interest in earthquake engineering.  相似文献

The intensity of shear waves in the model of a multilayered stratum, the material properties of which are random functions, is considered. The solutions for displacements and stresses are obtained for one layer and then the formulation is extended to a multilayered stratum through transfer matrices. The solution for a random medium has been compared with the solution for the homogeneous medium. The analysis indicates that the stochastic inhomogeneities are likely to increase the damping in a significant way.  相似文献

A numerical method is developed which can be used to determine the characteristics of Rayleigh wave propagation in a homogeneous medium where, at each surface point, the radius of curvature is large compared to the wavelength of Rayleigh waves. This method is deduced from experimental results on seismic modeling of some simple cases.In the general case we compute two effects of surface topography on the Rayleigh waves: a dispersion and attenuation of the waves due to the whole path and a local modulation of the displacement components depending on the local curvature. Therefore, both effects are not to be neglected in the case of precise measurement of the velocities and of the amplitudes from which the attenuation factor is carried out.  相似文献

Summary It is shown that the waves travelling at normal incidence in a continuously stratified elastic medium in which the longitudinal and the transverse wave velocities increase linearly are appreciably dispersed. Dispersion curves are given showing the variation of phase and group velocities, with frequency and different laws of increase in density. In this paper we analyse the two-dimensional scattering and diffraction of plane SH waves by a semi-elliptical canyon. The exact series solution of the problem, for general angle of incidence of the plane SH waves, has been used to examine the dependence of surface amplifications inside and near the canyon. The nature of ground motion has been found to depend on two key parameters: (a) The angle of incidence. (b) The ratio of the canyon width to the wave length of incident SH waves. For short incident waves surface displacement amplitudes change rapidly from one point to another, while for the long waves and shallow canyons displacement amplitudes display only minor departure from the uniform half-space amplification of 2. For shallow canyons and long incident waves, the angle of incidence introduces only minor changes into the overall behaviour of surface amplitudes. For deep canyons and nearly grazing incidences, a prominent shadow zone is realized behind the canyon.  相似文献

The two-dimensional scattering and diffraction of plane SH waves by a semi-cylindrical canyon is analysed for a general angle of wave incidence. The closed-form solution of the problem shows that the surface topography can have prominent effects on incident waves only when the wavelengths of incident motion are short compared to the radius of a canyon. The surface amplification of displacement amplitudes around and in the canyon changes rapidly from one point to another, but the amplification is always less than 2. The over-all trends of amplification pattern are determined by two principal parameters: (1) γ, the angle of incidence of plane SH waves, and (2) η, the ratio of radius of the canyon to one-half wave length of incident waves. The higher η leads to greater complexity of the pattern of surface displacement amplitudes characterized by more abrupt changes of amplification from one point to another, while γ mainly determines the over-all trends of displacement amplitudes. For grazing and nearly grazing incidences, for example, a strong shadow zone is developed behind the canyon. The qualitative analysis of the topographic effects on the Pacoima Dam accelerogram,1 based on the semi-cylindrical canyon, suggests that this strong-motion record was not seriously affected by surface topography of the recording site.  相似文献

文中利用间接边界元法,在频域内求解了层状弹性半空间中洞室对入射平面P波的放大作用问题。通过自由场反应分析,求得假想洞室边界上各单元的应力响应。在洞室边界各个单元上施加虚拟分布荷载,求得位移和应力的格林函数。根据应力边界条件确定虚拟分布荷载,将自由场位移响应和虚拟分布荷载产生的位移响应叠加起来,即得到问题的解答。比较了层状半空间和均匀半空间中洞室对入射平面P波的放大作用,结果表明,层状半空间情况有可能导致较大的地表位移幅值,尤其是对于较低频率入射波。  相似文献

A new analytical method is presented to study the problem of scattering of plane SH waves by a semi-cylindrical hill in an otherwise homogeneous, isotropic and elastic two-dimensional half-space, using the series of wave functions and a new expansion technique. The results obtained show that (1) the hill has quite considerable effects on ground motions for both the points on the hill and its environs, (2) these effects depend mainly on the frequency, the angle of wave incidence and the ratio of radius of hill to one-half the wave length of incident waves, and (3) prominent and depression topographies having equal form and radius for the same incident waves would cause quite different mechanisms of wave propagation in both response performance and magnitude. The results, doubtless, would be useful for further deepening knowledge of the effects of prominent topography on seismic ground motion and for testing the accuracy of various approximate methods so far available.  相似文献

This paper presents a closed-form solution for diffraction of plane SH waves by a semi-circular cavity in half-space by using wave function expansion method. Accuracy of the solution is checked by the displacement residual and stress residual along the boundaries. Numerical results show that there are notable differences for response amplitudes between a semi-circular cavity and a whole-circular cavity in a half-space.  相似文献
