By means of new photoelectric observations made in 1974 an attempt to determine the poles of asteroids 9 and 44 was made. Following a method based upon the magnitude-aspect and amplitude-aspect relations, the coordinates of the poles for 9 and 44 were found to be, respectively, λ0 = 191° ± 5°, β0 = 56° ± 6° and λ0 = 100° ± 10°, β0 = 50° ± 10°. The previously published pole for asteroid 22, λ0 = 215° ± 10°, β0 = 45° ± 15°, was confirmed. From its phase relation we determined the phase coefficient of 44 Nysa, a very high albedo object (pv = 0.377). The very low phase coefficient obtained (βv = 0.018 mag/deg) agrees very well with an inverse relation between geometrical albedo and phase coefficient. The results are summarized in a table.  相似文献

Photoelectric lightcurves of 304 Olga were obtained at Table Mountain Observatory in 1978 near opposition. From these observations, and several observations made from Lowell Observatory a month later, we obtain a rotation period of 18.36 ± 0.02 hr and lightcurve amplitude of 0m·20. The range of solar phase angle covered by the observations is from 2°·0 to 22°. The resulting phase function is well fit by the Bowell and Lumme model (1979, in Asteroids, T. Gehrels, Ed., pp. 132–169, Univ. of Arizona Press, Tucson), with Q = 0.02. This low value of Q is suggestive of a low-albedo object.  相似文献

We present 2.7-mm interferometric observations of Saturn made near opposition in June 1984 and June 1985, when the ring opening angle was 19° and 23°, respectively. By combining the data sets we produce brightness maps of Saturn and its rings with a resolution of 6″. The maps show flux from the ring ansae, and are the first direct evidence of ring flux in the 3-mm wavelength region. Modelfits to the visibility data yield a disk brightness temperature of 156 ± 5°K, a combined A, B, and C ring brightness temperature of 19 ± 3°K, and a combined a ring cusp (region of the rings which block the planet's disk) brightness temperature of 85 ± 5°K. These results imply a normal-to-the-ring optical depth for the combined ABC ringof 0.31 ± 0.04, which is nearly the same value found for wavelenghts from the UV to 6 cm. About 6°K of the ring flux is attributed to scattered planetary emission, leaving an intrinsic thermal component of ∼13°K. These results, together with the ring particle size distributions found by the Voyager radio occultation experiments, are consistent with the idea that the ring particles are composed chiefly of water ice.  相似文献

We present the results of polarimetric and photometric observations of dynamically new comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR) at phase angles from 6° to 26°. During the observations, the comet was at a distance of 2.7–1.3 AU from the Sun and 1.7–2.0 AU from the Earth. The aperture polarimetry was made with the 2.6-m Shain telescope and the 1.25-m AZT-11 telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and with the 0.7-m telescope of the Astronomical Institute of the Kharkiv National University during the period from November 21, 2003, to February 21, 2004. The wideband UBVRI and WRC (λ7228/1142 Å) filters and the narrowband GC (λ5260/56 Å) filter were used. The photometric observations of the comet were carried out on February 21, 2004, with narrowband filters isolated the BC (λ4845/65 Å) and RC (λ6840/90 Å) continuum and the C2 emission (λ5140/90 Å). The phase-angle dependence of linear polarization of the comet has been obtained, and its parameters, such as the minimal polarization P min = ?1.63%, the phase angle of the minimal polarization αmin = 10.6°, the inversion angle αinv = 22.7°, and the slope of the phase curve at the inversion angle h = 0.24% per degree, were found. From the photometric observations, the following quantities have been obtained: the column density of molecules C2 in the line of sight logN (C2) = ?9.15 mol/cm2 and their production rate log Q (C2) = 27.11 mol/s, the spectral gradient of reflectivity for the dust S′(BC, RC) ≈ 3%/1000 Å, and the dust production parameter Afρ equal to 371 and 273 cm for the blue and red continuum ranges, respectively. According to these results, the physical parameters of comet C/2002 T7 are close to the average characteristics of typical dusty comets.  相似文献

Ground-based observations of the CO2 distribution on Mars were made this past opposition from Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory. Almost complete coverage of the Martian surface from 40°N to 60°S was obtained. Agreement with previous Kitt Peak observations is good, and confirmation of a pressure anomaly in the Tharsis region has been obtained. The ridge whose eastern slope is Syrtis Major stops at about 15°S, in agreement with the 1971 radar data. The Noachis-Hellas region south of Syrtis Major appears at about average altitude, indicating that the dust storm of 1971 was already active in that region as early as the end of August.  相似文献

The results of observations of the radio emission of a high-latitude prominence located in the NE part of the solar limb are discussed. Observations were performed on the radio telescope RATAN-600 using its Northeastern sector and Southern sector with a periscope during the maximum phase (0.998) of the solar eclipse of March 29, 2006. The prominence was studied in the wavelength interval 1.03 ÷ 5.0 cm. The absence of the background illumination from the solar disk allowed us to study the parameters of the radio emission of the high-latitude prominence (? = 45°, NE limb of the Sun). Observations of the solar limb at the time of the maximum phase made it possible to record very small radio fluxes from the prominence, which amounted to 0.05 ÷ 0.01 s.f.u. in the wavelength interval from 1.84 to 5.0 cm. The position of the maximum of the radio emission of the prominence coincides, according to the results of observations performed on both sectors, with the summit of the prominence as seen on the solar image taken in the He II 304 Å line (SOHO, ? = 45°, NE limb of the Sun). The degree of polarization is P ≈ 7 ÷ 16% at 1.88 ÷ 5.0 cm. If interpreted in terms of the thermal mechanism considered here, polarized emission corresponds to a magnetic-field strength of H ? (550 ÷ 100) G in the prominence region.  相似文献

The Amplitude-Magnitude (AM) method is used for the pole determination of the asteroid 511 Davida, using observations from six oppositions. The possible North poles are found to be λ1 = 92° ± 7°; β1 = 33° ± 6°, and λ2 = 303° ± 4°; β2 = 34° ± 5°, when scattering effect is not taken into account. When scattering is accounted for, solutions not significantly different from (λ1, β1) and (λ2, β2) are obtained. The moderately eccentric and inclined orbit of 511 Davida does not allow us to distinguish between the two pole solutions. A comparison with other methods is necessary in order to make a definitive choice.  相似文献

Speckle interferometry of 532 Herculina performed on January 17 and 18, 1982, yields triaxial ellipsoid dimensions of (263 ± 14) × (218 ± 12) × (215 ± 12) km, and a north pole for the asteroid within 7° of RA = 7b47m and DEC = ?39° (ecliptic coordinates γ = 132° β = ?59°). In addition, a “spot” some 75% brighter than the rest of the asteroid is inferred from both speckle observations and Herculina's lightcurve history. This bright complex, centered at asterocentric latitude ?35°, longitude 145–165°, extends over a diameter of 55° (115 km) of the asteroid's surface. No evidence for a satellite is found from the speckle observations, which leads to an upper limit of 50 km for the diameter of any satellite with an albedo the same as or higher than Herculina.  相似文献

Photoelectric lightcurves of the asteroid 1862 Apollo were obtained in November–December 1980 and in April–May 1982. The period of rotation is unambiguously determined to be 3.0655 ± 0.0008 hr. The 1980 observations span a range of solar phase angle from 30° to 90°, and the 1982 observations, 0.°2 to 90°. The Lumme-Bowell-Harris phase relation can be fit to the absolute magnitudes at maximum light with an RMS scatter of 0.06 magnitude over the entire range of phase angle. The constants of the solution are absolute V magnitude at zero phase angle and at maximum light, 16.23 ± 0.02; slope parameter, 0.23 ± 0.01. These constant corresponds to values in the linear phase coefficient system of V(1, 0) = 16.50 ± 0.02 and a phase coefficient of βv = 0.0305 ± 0.0012 mag/degree in the phase range 10°–20°. The slope of the phase curve is typical for a moderate albedo asteroid. The absolute magnitudes observed in 1980 and 1982 fall along a common phase curve. That is, Apollo was not intrinsically brighter at one apparition than the other. This is not surprising, since the two apparitions were almost exactly opposite one another in the sky. A pole position was calculated from the observed deviation of the lightcurve from constant periodicity (synodic-sidereal difference) during both apparitions. The computed 1950 ecliptic coordinates of the pole are: longitude = 56°, latitude = −26°. This is the “north” pole with respect to right-handed (counter-clockwise) rotation. The formal uncertainty of the solution for the pole position is less than 10°, but realistically may be several times that, or even completely wrong. The sidereal period of rotation asscociated with this pole solution is 3.065436 ± 0.000012 hr.  相似文献

We present far-infrared observations of Saturn in the wavelength band 76–116 μm, using a balloon-borne 75-cm telescope launched on 10 December 1980 from Hyderabad, India, when B′, the Saturnicentric latitude of the Sun, was 4°.3. Normalizing with respect to Jupiter, we find the average brightness temperature of the disk-ring system to be 90 ± 3° K. Correcting for the contribution from rings using experimental information on the brightness temperature of rings at 20 μm, we find TD, the brightness temperature of the disk, to be 96.9 ± 3.5° K. The systematic errors and the correction for the ring contribution are small for our observations. We, therefore, make use of our estimate of TD and earlier observations of Saturn when contribution from the rings was large and find that for wavelengths greater than 50 μm, there is a small reduction in the ring brightness temperature as compared to that at 20 μm.  相似文献

Simultaneous measurements of the upper mesospheric NaD and OH(8,3) band emissions by meridional scanning photometers, and the OI 5577 Å, O2 Atmospheric band at 8645 Å, NaD and OH(8,3) band emissions by multi-channel tilting filter type zenith photometers have been carried out at Cachoeira Paulista (22.7°S, 45.0°W), Brazil. On two nights during the period May–August 1983, the meridional scanning observations showed horizontal intensity gradients and phase propagations. The nocturnal intensity variations on one of these occasions 13–14 June 1983, which was a magnetically disturbed night with 4 ?kp? 8, also showed vertical phase propagation. In this paper, we present these observations and discuss the possible effects of the horizontal wind system and of gravity wave propagation.  相似文献

We report the results of position, photometric, and polarimetric observations of two near-Earth asteroids made with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 1.2-hour measurements of the photometric variations of the asteroid 2009 DL46 made onMarch 8, 2016 (approximately 20m at a distance of about 0.23 AU from the Earth) showed a 0.m2-amplitude flash with a duration of about 20 minutes. During this time the polarization degree increased from the average level of 2–3% to 14%. The angle of the polarization plane and the phase angle were equal to 113° ± 1° and 43°, respectively. Our result indicates that the surface of the rotating asteroid (the rotation period of about 2.5 hours) must be non-uniformly rough. Observations of another asteroid—1994 UG—whose brightness was of about 17m and which was located at a geocentric distance of 0.077 AU, were carried out during the night of March 6/7, 2016 in two modes: photometric and spectropolarimetric. According to the results of photometric observations in Johnson’s B-, V-, and R-band filters, over one hour the brightness of the asteroid remained unchanged within the measurement errors (about 0.m02). Spectropolarimetric observations in the 420–800 nm wavelength interval showed the polarization degree to decrease from 8% in the blue part of the spectrum to 2% in the red part with the phase angle equal to 44?, which is typical for S-type near-Earth asteroids.  相似文献

511 Davida was observed with the technique of speckle interferometry at Steward Observatory's 2.3-m telescope on May 3, 1982. Assuming Davida to be a featureless triaxial ellipsoid, based on five 7-min observations its triaxial ellipsoid dimensions and standard deviations were found to be (465 ± 90) × (358 ± 58) × (258 ± 356) km. This shape is close to an equilibrium figure (a gravitationally shaped “rubble pile?”) suggesting a density of 1.4 ± 0.4 g/cm3. Simultaneously with the triaxial solution for the size and shape of Davida, we found its north rotational pole to lie within 29° of RA = 19h08m, Dec = +15° (λ = 291°, β = +37°). If Davida is assumed to be a prolate biaxial ellipsoid, then its dimensions were found to be (512 ± 100) × (334 ± 39) km, with a north pole within 16° of RA = 10h52m, Dec = +16° (λ = 322°, β = +32°). We derive and apply to Davida a new simultaneous amplitude-magnitude (SAM)-aspect method, finding, from photometric data only, axial ratios of a/b = 1.25 ± .02, b/c = 1.14 ± .03, and a rotational pole within 4° of λ = 307°, β = +32°. We also derive a (weighted) linearized form of the amplitude-aspect relation to obtain axial ratios and a pole. However, amplitudes must be known to better than .01 if the b/c or a/c ratios are desired to better than 10%. Combining the speckle and SAM results, we find for the Gehrels and Tedesco phase function a geometric albedo of .033 ± .009 and for the Lumme and Bowell function .041 ± .011, for a unified model of 437 × 350 × 307 km. Differences between the photometric and speckle axial ratios and poles are probably due to the effects of albedo structure over the asteroid; details on individual lightcurves support this conclusion.  相似文献

The asteroid 85 Io has been observed using CCD and photoelectric photometry on 18 nights during its 1995–96 and 1997 apparitions. We present the observed lightcurves, determined colour indices and modelling of the asteroid spin vector and shape. The colour indices (U-B = 0.35±0.02, B-V = 0.66±0.02, V-R = 0.34±0.02, R-I = 0.36±0.02) are as expected for a C-type asteroid. The allowed spin vector solutions have the pole co-ordinates λ0 = 285±4°, β0 = −52±9° or λ0 = 108±10°, β0 = −46±10° and λ0 = 290±10°, β0 = −16±10° with a retrograde sense of rotation and a sidereal period Psid = 0d.286463±0d.000001. During the 1995–96 apparition the International Occultation Time Association (IOTA) observed an occultation event by 85 Io. The observations and modelling presented here were analysed together with the occultation data to develop improved constraints on the size of the asteroid. The derived value of 164 km is about 5% larger than the IRAS diameter. © 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.  相似文献

We have used the Mariner 9 A-camera system to measure the polarization (P) of Phobos and Deimos at large phase angles (α). For Deimos, P = +22 ± 4% at α = 74°; for Phobos P = +20.5 ± 4% at α = 77°, and P = +24.5 ± 4% at α = 81°. These measurements refer to orange light at about 0.57 μm. A comparison with laboratory measurements of powdered rock samples indicates that the observations are consistent with the presence of regoliths on the satellites.  相似文献

Solar Cycle 24 is having a historically long and weak start. Observations of the Fe xiv corona from the Sacramento Peak site of the National Solar Observatory show an abnormal pattern of emission compared to observations of Cycles 21, 22, and 23 from the same instrument. The previous three cycles have shown a strong, rapid ??Rush to the Poles?? (previously observed in polar crown prominences and earlier coronal observations) in the parameter N(t,l,dt) (average number of Fe xiv emission features per day over dt days at time t and latitude l). Cycle 24 displays a weak, intermittent, and slow ??Rush?? that is apparent only in the northern hemisphere. If the northern Rush persists at its current rate, evidence from the Rushes in previous cycles indicates that solar maximum will occur in early 2013 or late 2012, at least in the northern hemisphere. At lower latitudes, solar maximum previously occurred when the time maximum of N(t,l,365) reached approximately 20° latitude. Currently, this parameter is at or below 30° and decreasing in latitude. Unfortunately, it is difficult at this time to calculate the rate of decrease in N(t,l,365). However, the southern hemisphere could reach 20° in 2011. Nonetheless, considering the levels of activity so far, there is a possibility that the maximum could be indiscernible.  相似文献

Nonthermal emission occurs in the cores of the 9.4- and 10.4-μm CO2 bands on Mars, and has been recently identified as a natural atmospheric laser. This paper presents observations of the total flux and center-to-limb dependence of this emission for Mars and Venus. The emission is believed to be excited by absorption of solar flux in the near-ir CO2 bands, followed by collisional transfer to the 00°1 state of CO2. A comparison is made between the observations and a detailed theoretical model based on this mechanism. It is found that the theoretical model successfully reproduces the observed center-to-limb dependence of this emission, to within the limits imposed by the spatial resolution of the observations. A comparison is also made between the observed fluxes and the predictions of the theoretical models. The observed flux from Mars agrees closely with the prediction of the model; the flux observed from Venus is 74% of the flux predicted by the model. This emission is utilized to obtain the kinetic temperatures of the Martian and Venusian mesospheres. For Mars near 70 km altitude, a rotational temperature analysis using five lines gives T = 135 ± 20°K. The frequency width of the emission is also analyzed to derive a temperature of 126 ± 6°K. In the case of the Venusian mesosphere near 109 km, the frequency width of the emission gives T = 204 ± 10°K.  相似文献

The proper motions of groups of stars, selected according to magnitude and colour, near (l, b.)=(140°, 0°), were analysed in an attempt to identify possible members of the α-spiral arm defined by Verschuur fromHi observations. Other than late type giants the only objects whose distance corresponded to that of this arm were a small group of reddened early type stars.  相似文献

In 2013–2015 the Laboratory of spectroscopy and photometry of extragalactic objects (LS-PEO) of the Special Astrophysical Observatory together with Armenian specialists upgraded the 1-m Schmidt telescope of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. We completely redesigned the control system of the telescope: we replaced the actuating mechanisms, developed telescope control software, and made the guiding system. We reworked and prepared a 4k × 4k Apogee (USA) liquid-cooled CCD with RON ~ 11.1 e?, a pixel size of 0.″868, and field of view of about 1□°, and in October 2015 mounted it in the focus of the telescope. The detector is equipped with a turret bearing 20 intermediate-band filters (FWHM = 250 Å) uniformly covering the 4000–9000 Å wavelength range, five broadband filters (u, g, r, i, z SDSS), and three narrow-band filters (5000 Å, 6560 Å and 6760 Å, FWHM = 100 Å). During the first year of test operation of the 1-m telescope we performed pilot observations within the framework of three programs: search for young stellar objects, AGNevolution, and stellar composition of galaxy disks. We confirmed the possibility of efficiently selecting of young objects using observations performed in narrow-band Hα and [SII] filters and the intermediate-band 7500 Å filter. Three-hours long exposures with SDSS g-, r-, and i-band filters allow us to reach the surface brightness level of 28m/□″ when investigating the stellar content of galaxy disks for a sample of nine galaxies. We used observations performed with the 1-m telescope in five broadband (SDSS u, g, r, i, and z) and 15 intermediate-band filters (4000–7500 Å) to construct a sample of quasar candidates with 0.5 < z < 5 (330 objects) in about one-sq. degree SA68 field complete down to RAB = 23m. Spectroscopic observations of 29 objects (19.m5 < R < 22m) carried out at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences confirmed the quasar nature of 28 objects.  相似文献

The preliminary measurements by Pioneer 11 of the limb darkening and polarization of Titan at red and blue wavelenghts (M. G. Tomasko, 1980,J. Geophys. Res., 85, 5937–5942) are refined and the measurements of the brightness of the integrated disk at phase angles from 22 to 96° are reduced. At 28° phase, Titan's reflectivity in blue light at southern latitudes is as much as 25% greater than that at northern latitudes, comparable to the values observed by Voyager 1 (L. A. Sromovsky et al., 1981,Nature (London), 292, 698–702). In red light the reflectivity is constant to within a few percent for latitudes between 40°S and 60°N. Titan's phase coefficient between 22 and 96° phase angle averages about 0.014 magnitudes/degree in both colors—a value considerably greater than that observed at smaller phase from the Earth. Comparisons of the data with vertically homogeneous multiple-scattering models indicate that the single-scattering phase functions of the aerosols in both colors are rather flat at scattering angles between 80 and 150° with a small peak at larger scattering (i.e., small phase) angles. The models indicate that the phase integral, q, for Titan in both red and blue light is about 1.66 ± 0.1. Together with Younkin's value for the bolometric geometric albedo scaled to a radius of 2825 km, this implies an effective temperature in equilibrium with sunlight of 84 ± 2°K, in agreement with recent thermal measurements. The single-scattering polarizations produced by the particles at 90° scattering angle are quite large, >85% in blue light and >95% in red. A vertically homogeneous model in which the particles are assumed to scatter as spheres cannot simultaneously match the polarization observations in both colors for any refractive index. However, the observed polarizations are most sensitive to the particle properties near optical depth 12 in each color, and so models based on single scattering by spheres can be successful over a range of refractive indices if the size of the particles increases with depth and if the cross section of the particles increases sufficiently rapidly with decreasing wavelenght. For example, with nr = 1.70, the polarization (and the photometry) are reproduced reasonably well in both colors when the area-weighted average radous of the particles, α, is given by α = (0.117 μm)(τred/0.5)0.217. While this model does not reproduce the large increase in brightness from 129 to 160° phase observed by Voyager 1, the observed increase is determined by the properties of the particles in the top few hundredths of an optical depth. Thus the addition of a very thin layer of forward-scattering aerosols on top of the above model offers one way of satisfying both the Pioneer 11 and Voyager 1 observations. Of course, other models, using bimodal size distributions or scattering by nonspherical particles, may also be capable of reproducing these data.  相似文献
