We calculated the ionization fraction for hydrogen and helium (He I) as a function of the redshift z by including the two-photon decays of high hydrogen and parahelium levels and the radiative transfer in the helium 23P1 ? 11S0 intercombination line. We show that this yields corrections of no more than a few percent to the ionization fraction for hydrogen and speeds up significantly the recombination for helium compared to the recent works by Seager et al. (1999, 2000), in which these effects were disregarded.  相似文献

On the basis of assumed photospheric temperature models for 36 extreme supergiants (logg e -values of 1, 0.5 and 0;T e ranging from approx. 3700–33 000 K) photospheric fluxesSλ) were computed for 36 wavelengths ranging from 100 Å to 60 000 Å. The hot models are in perfect radiative equilibrium; the cooler show deviations up to 10%, sometimes even larger. Only in the relatively deep parts of the photospheres (τ5?1) the radiation field at each geometrical level can be characterized by one unique radiation temperature; for smaller τ5-values there are large deviations from local thermal equilibrium. The influence of deviations from local thermodynamical equilibrium on the fluxes is briefly examined, and appears small but for the shortest wavelengths. In tables and graphs we give for these models πF(γ)-values, integrated fluxes, effective temperatures, coloursU, B andV, and the Balmer discontinuityD.  相似文献

On the basis of Sobolev's method, the population of 30 levels of hydrogen atom is determined allowing for the radiative and collision processes of the heating and ionization of the medium with velocity gradient gradv=10–9–10–11s–1, electron temperatureT e=104 K-2×104 K and electron densityN e=1010 cm–3–1011 cm–3. The central source radiation is characterized by a power spectrum with spectral indices varying from 0 to 2. A region of possible physical conditions is found where the thermal diffuse radiation of the envelope exceeds the emission in the Balmer H line.  相似文献

Using slab model atmospheres that are irradiated from both sides by photospheric, chromospheric, and coronal radiation fields we have determined the ionization and excitation equilibrium for hydrogen. The model atom consists of two bound levels (n = 1 and n = 2) and a continuum. Ly- was assumed to be optically thick with the transition in detailed radiative balance. The Balmer continuum was assumed to be optically thin with the associated radiative ionization dominated by the photospheric radiation field (T rad = 5940 K). The ionization equilibrium was determined from an exact treatment of the radiative transfer problem for the internally generated Ly-c field and the impressed chromospheric and coronal field (characterized by T rad = 6500K).Our calculations corroborate the hypothesis that N2, the n = 2 population density, is uniquely determined by the electron density N e. We also present ionization curves for 6000K, 7500K, and 10000K models ranging in total hydrogen density from 1 × 1010/cm3 to 3 × 1012/cm3. Using these curves it is possible to obtain the total hydrogen density from the n = 2 population density in prominences and spicules. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The dissociative recombination coefficients α for capture of electrons by H3+ and H5+ ions have been determined as a function of electron temperature Te using a microwave afterglow-mass spectrometer apparatus. At ion and neutral temperatures Tu+ = Tn = 240 K, the coefficient α (H3+) is found to vary slowly with Te at first, decreasing from 1.6 × 10?7 cm3/s at Te = 240 K to 1.2 × 10?7 cm3/s at Te = 500 K, thereafter falling as Te?1 over the range 500 K ? Te, ? 3000 K. These results, which have a ± 20% uncertainty, agree satisfactorily over the common energy range (0.03–0.36 eV) with the recombination cross sections determined in merged beam measurements by Auerbach et al. At T+ = Tn = 128 K, the coefficient α(H5+) is found to be (1.8 ± 0.3) × 10?6 [Te(K)/300]?0.69 cm3/s over the range 128 K ? Te ? 3000 K, with a more rapid decrease, as Te?1, between 3000 K and 5500 K. The implications of these results for modelling planetary atmospheres and interstellar clouds are briefly touched on.  相似文献

A study has been made using a variable temperature flowing afterglow Langmuir probe technique (VT-FALP) to determine the equilibrium temperature dependencies of the dissociative electron-ion recombination of the protonated cyanide ions (RCNH+, where R=H, CH3 and C2H5) and their symmetrical proton-bound dimers (RCNH+NCR). The power law temperature dependencies of the recombination coefficients, αe, over the temperature range 180 to 600 K for the protonated ions are αe(T)(cm3 s−1)=3.5±0.5×10−7 (300/T)1.38 for HCNH+, αe(T)=3.4±0.5×10−7 (300/T)1.03 for CH3CNH+, and αe(T)=4.6±0.7×10−7 (300/T)0.81 for CH3CH2CNH+. The equivalent values for the proton-bound dimers are αe(T)(cm3 s−1)=2.4±0.4×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (HCN)2H+ to αe(T)=2.8±0.4×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (CH3CN)2H+, and αe(T)=2.3±0.3×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (CH3CH2CN)2H+. The relevance of these data to molecular synthesis in the interstellar medium and the Titan ionosphere are discussed.  相似文献

The EUV observations from the SMM satellite of two sunspots are presented here. These observations show the sunspots (a) to be regions of lower intensity than the surrounding plage, contrary to that found by previous authors, and (b) to have line intensities which vary little over a period of several hours. An upper limit to mass flows of 2km s-1 is derived, indicating a relatively simple energy balance for the chromosphere-corona transition zone with thermal conduction being balanced by radiative losses. Electron densities derived from Niv to Civ line ratios imply electron pressures (log N eTe) of 15.0 to 15.3.  相似文献

The deviations from Boltzmann distribution have been carried out for higher energy levels of neutral helium atoms. The computations have been done up to the quantum numbern=10, for variety of both electron temperature (T e) and radiation temperature (T s). Furthermore, computations for more values of the dilution factor (W) enable applications of results to atmospheres of intermediate heights and to lower parts of stellar atmosphere. Also for the special casesT e=T s=10080 K, 20160 K andW=0.3, 0.1, and 1.00, was treated, to afford at least a rough comparison between the new and old results.  相似文献

We present the results of an analysis of the winds of two WC10 central stars of planetary nebulae, CPD-56°8032 and He 2-113. These two stars have remarkably similar spectra, although the former exhibits somewhat broader emission line widths. High resolution spectra (up to R=50 000) were obtained in May 1993 for both objects at the 3.9 m AAT, using the UCL Echelle Spectrograph. The fluxes in individual Cii auto-ionising multiplet components, many of which were blended, were derived. Lines originating from auto-ionising resonance states situated in the C2+ continuum are very sensitive to the electron temperature, since the population of the these levels is close to LTE. The measured widths and profile shapes of these transitions are presented and are in excellent agreement with those predicted on the basis of their calculated auto-ionising lifetimes. The wind electron temperature is derived for both stars from the ratio of the fluxes in four such transitions (T e =18 500 K±1 500 K for CPD-56° 8032 andT e =13 600 K±800 K for He 2-113). Optical depth effects are investigated using normal recombination lines to obtain an independent wind electron temperature estimate in excellent agreement with the dielectronic line analysis.  相似文献

Measurements of the solar X-ray spectrum between 3 Å and 15 Å are reported. They were made with two slitless Bragg crystal spectrometers flown on a Sun-pointed Skylark rocket on 8 August, 1967.The use of a beryl crystal has provided higher spectral resolution than hitherto in the spectral range 12 Å and 15 Å leading, in particular, to a revised identification of the strong line at 13.71 Å. Separate components of the stronger emission lines are clearly seen from each of three coronal active regions which may be identified on radio and X-ray spectroheliograms. The absolute line fluxes are used to determine a model for each active region in terms of the differential emission measure as a function of electron temperature. Emission lines due to the transition 1s 2 1 S 0 – 1s2s 3 S 1 in several helium-like ions are identified and values of the local electron density derived from measurement of the line flux in these ions.  相似文献

Ion emission line intensities between 1170 and 1700 Å allow one to determine the differential emission measure (DEM) and electron pressure of the plasma in the solar transition region (TR). These line intensities together with their Doppler shifts and line widths are measured simultaneously for the first time above a sunsport from data obtained with the NRL High Resolution Telescope and Spectrograph with 0.06 Å spectral and 1 spatial resolution. The Doppler shifts show both subsonic and supersonic flow in the same line of sight over the umbra. The temperature structure for 40 resolution elements in the sunspot umbra and penumbra is derived from the DEM and the observed electron pressures.Extrapolation of the emission measure curves supports the previous EUV and X-ray observations that coronal plasma above sunspots with T e>106 K is reduced while emission from TR plasma between 2×105 and 106 K is greatly enhanced relative to quiet or active regions. This enhancement shifts the minimum of the DEM to lower temperatures and increases the slope at 2×105 K by a factor of two.New pressure diagnostics using the emission line intensity ratios of C iv to N iv are presented, and applied to the data. The energy balance in the TR for the sunspot umbra is dominated by radiative losses from the large amount of TR plasma. An estimate of the energy budget shows that an energy input is required to balance the radiative energy losses above the umbra. The observed divergence of the enthalpy flux for the umbral downflows can balance these radiative losses for T e between 30000 and 200 000 K.A typical umbral model of T e versus reduced mass column density is compared with one for chromospheric temperatures determined from the Ca H and K lines.Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo, Norway.  相似文献

Exploratory models of the collapse of spherical self-gravitating clouds are studied in relation to the problem of the formation of first generation star-systems. The masses which were considered are in the range of 83 to 5.2×1010 M . For simplicity, the assumed composition includes hydrogen only, which could be in the form of H, H2, H+ or H?. Since the physical conditions that might have prevailed in a primeval nebula are not well known, rather simple initial conditions were chosen: The gas starts from rest and has initially a uniform temperature. We consider the case of rather cool (T 0~100 K) neutral clouds with different initial ionization degrees. Some of the initial density-distributions here considered are uniform while others are decreasing from the center outwards. The assumed initial values for the densities are ~10?24 g cm?3, except for one of the models, for which it is ~10?26 g cm?3. Several atomic processes within the gas, including physical-chemical reactions and the evaluation of radiative emission coefficients are considered. A system of differential equations is set up in order to evaluate the concentrationsn H,n H 2,n H +,n H ? andn e as a function of time. The treatment makes possible the study of the cooling and heating properties of the gas. Furthermore, the dynamical, thermal and chemical evolution of the cloud can be followed during the collapse. The computations apply only to the optically thin stages. The models show the importance of a correct evaluation of the chemical reactions and dissipative mechanisms, which cannot be ignored in a realistic treatment of the collapse of self-gravitating clouds. The influence of the initial conditions on the dynamical and thermal properties during evolution are also analysed.  相似文献

A gridded spherical electrostatic analyzer aboard Injun 5 has been used to measure fluxes of thermal and hyperthermal electrons at subauroral latitudes in the midnight sector of the northern ionosphere between altitudes of 2500 and 850 km. Due to the offset between the geomagnetic and geographic poles hyperthermal fluxes, consisting of energetic photoelectrons that have escaped from the sunlit southern hemisphere are observed along orbits over the Atlantic Ocean and North America but not over Asia. The ambient electron temperatures (Te) near 2500 km have their highest values at trough latitudes for all longitudes. At altitudes near 1000 km elevated electron temperatures in the trough were not a consistent feature of the data. Equatorward of the trough, in the longitude sector to which conjugate photoelectrons have access, Te ~ 4000 K at 2500 km and ~ 3000 K at 1000 km. For regions with the conjugate point in darkness Te ? 2300 K over the 1000–2500 km altitude range. The effective thermal characteristics of conjugate photoelectrons are studied as functions of altitude and latitude. The observations indicate that (1) at trough latitudes elevated electron temperatures in the topside ionosphere are mostly produced by sources other than conjugate photoelectrons, and (2) at subtrough latitudes, in the Alantic Ocean-North American longitude sector, conjugate photoelectrons contribute significantly to the heating of topside electrons. Much of the conjugate photoelectron energy is deposited at altitudes >2500 km then conducted along magnetic field lines into the ionosphere.  相似文献

The NRL SOLRAD 10 satellite carries six ionization chambers to measure solar X-radiation in the 0.5 to 60 Å wavelength band. The X-ray emission spectrum in this range is determined by the derivative of the coronal emission measure (∫ N e 2 dV) with respect to temperature when the thermal processes of bremsstrahlung, radiative recombination and line radiation are considered. If a simple model for this differential emission measure is used and detector responses to the calculated spectra are fitted to the SOLRAD data by a least squares method, the differential emission measure can be obtained for temperatures between 2 × 106K and 64 × 106K. Data during quiet and flaring periods are analyzed and the general behavior of the differential emission measure during flares is presented. This analysis is based on experimental measurements of the efficiencies of the SOLRAD detectors.  相似文献

The paper deals with the excitation of the helium singlet level 21 P in the homogeneous and filamentary models of quiescent prominences with following parameters: the optical thickness at the limit of helium Lyman continuum 1c M = 0.1–100, T e = 7000 K, n e = 5 × 1010 cm–3. Assuming a model He atom with seven discrete levels (11 S, 23 S, 21 S, 23 P, 21 P, 33 D, 31 D) and the continuum the steady state equations for the levels 23 S, 21 P and the continuum have been solved together with the radiative transfer equations for the line 584 Å and the continuum 504 Å. The variations with depth of the functions n 2 3 S /n 1 1 S (1 c), n 2 1 P /n 1 1 S (1c ), and n + He n e /n 1 1 S(1c ) as well as the intensities of the triplet (D3, 10830 Å) and singlet (16678, 20581 Å) lines have been calculated. Comparison with observations leads to the following conclusions: (1) The line intensities calculated for filamentary models of prominences agree better with observations than those for homogeneous ones. (2) The helium level 21 P is excited by diffuse field 584 Å being formed by recombinations and spontaneous transitions 21 P – 11 S and escaping from the prominence into the space between the filaments and to the surface. (3) Underpopulation of the singlet level 21 P may be explained by combination of weak excitation mechanism (recombinations and formation of the diffuse field 584 Å) and strong deexcitation mechanism (spontaneous transitions into the level 11 S).  相似文献

We present an analysis of the evolution of the thermal flare plasma during the 14 July 2000, 10 UT, Bastille Day flare event, using spacecraft data from Yohkoh/HXT, Yohkoh/SXT, GOES, and TRACE. The spatial structure of this double-ribbon flare consists of a curved arcade with some 100 post-flare loops which brighten up in a sequential manner from highly-sheared low-lying to less-sheared higher-lying bipolar loops. We reconstruct an instrument-combined, average differential emission measure distribution dEM(T)/dT that ranges from T=1 MK to 40 MK and peaks at T 0=10.9 MK. We find that the time profiles of the different instrument fluxes peak sequentially over 7 minutes with decreasing temperatures from T≈30 MK to 1 MK, indicating the systematic cooling of the flare plasma. From these temperature-dependent relative peak times t peak(T) we reconstruct the average plasma cooling function T(t) for loops observed near the flare peak time, and find that their temperature decrease is initially controlled by conductive cooling during the first 188 s, T(t)∼[1+(tcond)]−2/7, and then by radiative cooling during the next 592 s, T(t)∼[1−(trad)]3/5. From the radiative cooling phase we infer an average electron density of n e=4.2×1011 cm−3, which implies a filling factor near 100% for the brightest observed 23 loops with diameters of ∼1.8 Mm that appear simultaneously over the flare peak time and are fully resolved with TRACE. We reproduce the time delays and fluxes of the observed time profiles near the flare peak self-consistently with a forward-fitting method of a fully analytical model. The total integrated thermal energy of this flare amounts to E thermal=2.6×1031 erg. A model of a coronal region of enhanced Fexv and Fexvi emission is developed and its energy balance is examined using extreme ultraviolet observations from OSO-7 together with calculations of possible force-free coronal magnetic field configurations. The coronal emissions overlying the photospheric boundary between regions of opposite magnetic polarity are found to be associated with generally non-potential (current-carrying) magnetic fields in the forms of arches with footpoints in regions of opposite polarity. The orientation of these arches relative to the neutral line changes with degree of ionization of the emitting ion (which we infer from our limb observations to be a function of height) and may be evidence of differing electric currents along various field lines. The appearance of a coronal arch, seen side-on, can conveniently be represented by a parabola and a detailed analysis (Appendix) shows this to be a realistic approximation that should be generally useful in analyzing two-dimensional pictures of coronal structures. Applying this analysis to the most prominent coronal region observed in the radiations of Fexv and Fexvi, we find a maximum in the electron temperature, T e , of 2.6 × 106K at the top of arches whose heights are 20000–40000 km and whose footpoints are separated by ≈ 100000 km. A temperature gradient of ▽T e ≈5 × 10-5K cm-1 is found in this coronal structure. Radiative losses are typically fifteen times greater than conductive losses and the energy deposition required to maintain the coronal feature is nearly uniformly distributed along its length.  相似文献

Thirteen high-dispersion spectrographs of the eclipsing binary star SZ Cam have been studied with a view of determining more accurate information on: (i) the spectral type and luminosity classifications, (ii) absolute parameters for the component stars, (iii) the stellar environment of SZ Cam. The main results in these categories are as follows: (i) O9.5 Vnk, (ii)m g=19±2M ,m s=6.5±1M ;r g=9.7±3.6R ,r s=4.8±1.7R ;T e~30000 K,T e~23000 K; (iii) there is a local concentration of absorbing material which may reach a density of 2M pc?3, and the distance of the star is found to be 600±150 pc. The determined overluminosity of the secondary star and the local concentration of absorbing material are two topics which provide the basis for a discussion section.  相似文献

Using ion-electron fluid parameters derived from Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) observations within Saturn's inner magnetosphere as presented in Sittler et al. [2006a. Cassini observations of Saturn's inner plasmasphere: Saturn orbit insertion results. Planet. Space Sci., 54, 1197-1210], one can estimate the ion total flux tube content, NIONL2, for protons, H+, and water group ions, W+, as a function of radial distance or dipole L shell. In Sittler et al. [2005. Preliminary results on Saturn's inner plasmasphere as observed by Cassini: comparison with Voyager. Geophys. Res. Lett. 32(14), L14S04), it was shown that protons and water group ions dominated the plasmasphere composition. Using the ion-electron fluid parameters as boundary condition for each L shell traversed by the Cassini spacecraft, we self-consistently solve for the ambipolar electric field and the ion distribution along each of those field lines. Temperature anisotropies from Voyager plasma observations are used with (T/T)W+∼5 and (T/T)H+∼2. The radio and plasma wave science (RPWS) electron density observations from previous publications are used to indirectly confirm usage of the above temperature anisotropies for water group ions and protons. In the case of electrons we assume they are isotropic due to their short scattering time scales. When the above is done, our calculation show NIONL2 for H+ and W+ peaking near Dione's L shell with values similar to that found from Voyager plasma observations. We are able to show that water molecules are the dominant source of ions within Saturn's inner magnetosphere. We estimate the ion production rate SION∼1027 ions/s as function of dipole L using NH+, NW+ and the time scale for ion loss due to radial transport τD and ion-electron recombination τREC. The ion production shows localized peaks near the L shells of Tethys, Dione and Rhea, but not Enceladus. We then estimate the neutral production rate, SW, from our ion production rate, SION, and the time scale for loss of neutrals by ionization, τION, and charge exchange, τCH. The estimated source rate for water molecules shows a pronounced peak near Enceladus’ L shell L∼4, with a value SW∼2×1028 mol/s.  相似文献

The results of long-term photometric and spectroscopic observations of the young compact planetary nebula Vy 2-2 (PNG 045.4-02.7) are presented. The UBV photometry in 1990–2016 has revealed a slight brightness trend in the yearly averaged data, most pronounced in the V band. We have measured the relative fluxes of optical emission lines on the spectrograms taken with the 1.25-m telescope at the Southern Station of the SAI MSU in 1999–2016, estimated the absolute flux in the Hβ line to be F(Hβ) = (2.1 ± 0.4) × 10?12 erg cm?2 s?1, and determined the interstellar extinction constant c(Hβ) = 1.8. The electron temperature and density in the nebula have been estimated from diagnostic line ratios: Te = (10?12) × 103 K and Ne ≥ 105 cm?3. To detect any possible evolutionary changes, we have compared the new observations with the archival data obtained over the entire history of spectroscopic observations of Vy 2-2. No significant changes in the relative intensities of the strongest emission lines and the integrated flux in the Hβ line exceeding the observational errors have been found. We have revealed a tendency for the intensity ratio F(λ4363)/F(λ4959) to decrease with time, which may be related to a decrease in the electron density in the nebula. Based on our photometric and spectroscopic data, we have estimated the luminosity of the central star of Vy 2-2, which corresponds to the evolutionary tracks for the most massive post-AGB stars of the O-rich sequence.  相似文献
