The magnetic structure of arch filament systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Photographic-type magnetograms are used in conjunction with H filtergrams to study the structure and evolution of magnetic fields associated with arch filament systems. The magnetograms show that the opposite ends of the arch filaments are indeed rooted in photospheric magnetic fields of opposite polarity. Furthermore, these magnetic field systems are in every case new magnetic flux appearing at the solar surface. Time lapse studies show the detailed process by which the flux tubes emerge through the surface. First, supergranules bring individual strands of magnetic flux to the surface and sweep the two feet of the flux tube to opposite sides of the supergranule. Then, the flux tube rises through the chromosphere, creating a visible arch filament. It is also shown that the observed rotation of the axis of an arch filament system in the plane of the solar surface is caused by the emergence of successive flux loops, each possessing different axial tilts.  相似文献

Bipolar active regions (ARs) are thought to be formed by twisted flux tubes, as the presence of such twist is theoretically required for a cohesive rise through the whole convective zone. We use longitudinal magnetograms to demonstrate that a clear signature of a global magnetic twist is present, particularly, during the emergence phase when the AR is forming in a much weaker pre-existing magnetic field environment. The twist is characterised by the presence of elongated polarities, called “magnetic tongues”, which originate from the azimuthal magnetic field component. The tongues first extend in size before retracting when the maximum magnetic flux is reached. This implies an apparent rotation of the magnetic bipole. Using a simple half-torus model of an emerging twisted flux tube having a uniform twist profile, we derive how the direction of the polarity inversion line and the elongation of the tongues depend on the global twist in the flux rope. Using a sample of 40 ARs, we verify that the helicity sign, determined from the magnetic polarity distribution pattern, is consistent with the sign derived from the photospheric helicity flux computed from magnetogram time series, as well as from other proxies such as sheared coronal loops, sigmoids, flare ribbons and/or the associated magnetic cloud observed in situ at 1 AU. The evolution of the tongues observed in emerging ARs is also closely similar to the evolution found in recent MHD numerical simulations. We also found that the elongation of the tongue formed by the leading magnetic polarity is significantly larger than that of the following polarity. This newly discovered asymmetry is consistent with an asymmetric Ω-loop emergence, trailing the solar rotation, which was proposed earlier to explain other asymmetries in bipolar ARs.  相似文献

A set of H chromospheric magnetograms at various wavelengths near the line center, chromospheric Dopplergrams, and photospheric vector magnetograms of a unipolar sunspot region near the solar limb were obtained with the vector video magnetograph at the Huairou Solar Observing Station. The superpenumbral chromospheric magnetic field is almost parallel to the surface at the outside of the sunspot penumbra, where the magnetic lines of force are mainly concentrated in the superpenumbral filaments. In the gaps between the filaments the chromospheric horizontal field is weak.  相似文献

Based on photospheric vector magnetograms obtained at Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS), non-potential characteristics of the magnetic field beneath the filament in active region NOAA 9077 are investigated. We focus on the structure and evolution of the magnetic field from 00:08 UT to 10:25 UT of 14 July before the Bastille event. Particular attention is paid to transverse field strength, shear degree and horizontal gradient of the line-of-sight magnetic field around the filament and filament channel. The following characteristics are found. (1) The magnetic non-potentiality has an obviously non-uniform distribution. The shear degree of the transverse field (Hagyard et al., 1984) is very large, up to 75° in some sites beneath the filament, such as the initial brightening site in TRACE 1600 Å images and the breaking site of the filament. The transverse field and the horizontal gradient of the line-of-sight field are very large in some parts corresponding to the hottest and continuously brightening portions. (2) The mean strength and mean shear angle of the transverse field and mean horizontal gradient of the line-of-sight field have obviously dropped in most parts beneath the filament for two hours before the filament eruption and onset of the X5.7/3B flare. After comparing simultaneous UV and EUV images, H filtergrams and Dopplergrams at solar atmosphere, we suggest that magnetic cancellation is likely to quickly transport the magnetic energy and complexity into the higher atmosphere in these two hours. This leads to magnetic instability in the filament and eventually causes the eruption of filament and onset of the flare.  相似文献

Three-dimensional, quasi-static evolutions of coronal magnetic fields driven by photospheric flux emergence are modeled by a class of analytic force-free magnetic fields. Our models relate commonly observed photospheric magnetic phenomena, such as the formation and growth of sunspots, the emergence of an X-type separator, and the collision and merging of sunspots, to the three-dimensional magnetic fields in the corona above. By tracking the evolution in terms of a continuous sequence of force-free states, we show that flux emergence and submergence along magnetic neutral lines in the photosphere are essential processes in all these photospheric phenomena. The analytic solutions we present have a parametric regime within which the magnetic energy attained by an evolving force-free field may be of the order of 1030 ergs to several 1031 ergs, depending on the magnetic environment into which an emerging flux intrudes. The commonly used indicators of magnetic shear in magnetogram interpretation are discussed in terms of field connectivity in our models. It is demonstrated that the crossing angle of the photospheric transverse magnetic field with the neutral line may not be a reliable indicator of the magnetic shear in the coronal field above, due to the complexity of three-dimensionality. The poorly understood constraint of magnetic-helicity conservation on the availability of magnetic free energy for a flare is briefly discussed. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We analyze the multiwavelength observations of an M2.9/1N flare that occurred in the active region (AR) NOAA 11112 in the vicinity of a huge filament system on 16 October 2010. SDO/HMI magnetograms reveal the emergence of a bipole (within the existing AR) 50 hours prior to the flare event. During the emergence, both the positive and negative sunspots in the bipole show translational as well as rotational motion. The positive-polarity sunspot shows significant motion/rotation in the south-westward/clockwise direction, and we see continuously pushing/sliding of the surrounding opposite-polarity field region. On the other hand, the negative-polarity sunspot moves/rotates in the westward/anticlockwise direction. The positive-polarity sunspot rotates ≈?70° within 30 hours, whereas the one with negative polarity rotates ≈?20° within 10 hours. SDO/AIA 94 Å EUV images show the emergence of a flux tube in the corona, consistent with the emergence of the bipole in HMI. The footpoints of the flux tube were anchored in the emerging bipole. The initial brightening starts at one of the footpoints (western) of the emerging loop system, where the positive-polarity sunspot pushes/slides towards a nearby negative-polarity field region. A high speed plasmoid ejection (speed ≈?1197 km?s?1) was observed during the impulsive phase of the flare, which suggests magnetic reconnection of the emerging positive-polarity sunspot with the surrounding opposite-polarity field region. The entire AR shows positive-helicity injection before the flare event. Moreover, the newly emerging bipole reveals the signature of a negative (left-handed) helicity. These observations provide unique evidence of the emergence of twisted flux tubes from below the photosphere to coronal heights, triggering a flare mainly due to the interaction between the emerging positive-polarity sunspot and a nearby negative-polarity sunspot by the shearing motion of the emerging positive sunspot towards the negative one. Our observations also strongly support the idea that the rotation can most likely be attributed to the emergence of twisted magnetic fields, as proposed by recent models.  相似文献

Using a 28-hour time series of line-of-sight magnetograms taken by the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI), we determined the magnetic flux variations and the rate of magnetic helicity transport at the footpoints of a filament in active region NOAA 8375. The filament was characterized by a positive helicity change due to shearing motions in both footpoints and showed several partial eruptions during the observing time. In particular, we considered 4 events registered in the Hα daily reports of Solar Geophysical Data. We found a strong temporal correlation between filament eruptions and helicity transport from the photospheric magnetic structures at the filament footpoints into the corona: in at least one footpoint, all of the events were preceded by an evident increase and followed by a small decrease of the emerging magnetic flux and of the magnetic helicity change due to shearing motions. We compared these two mechanisms of helicity transport and found that the predominant role to drive filament instability is played by emergence of new magnetic flux from the convection zone.

We discuss the study of solar magnetic fields based on the photospheric vector magnetograms of solar active regions which were obtained at Huairou Solar Observing Station near Beijing in the period of 22nd and 23th solar cycles. The measurements of the chromospheric magnetic field and the spatial configuration of the field at the lower solar atmosphere inferred by the distribution of the solar photospheric and chromospheric magnetic field. After the analysis on the formation process of delta configuration in some super active regions based on the photospheric vector magnetogram observations, some results are obtained: (1) The analysis of magnetic writhe of whole active regions cannot be limited in the strong field of sunspots, because the contribution of the fraction of decayed magnetic field is non-negligible. (2) The magnetic model of kink magnetic ropes, proposed to be generated in the subatmosphere, is not consistent with the evolution of large-scale twisted photospheric transverse magnetic field and the relationship with magnetic shear in some delta active regions completely. (3) The proposition is that the large-scale delta active regions are formed from contribution by highly sheared non-potential magnetic flux bundles generated in the subatmosphere. We present some results of a study of the magnetic helicity. We also compare these results with other data sets obtained by magnetographs (or Stokes polarimeters) at different observatories, and analyze the basic chirality of the magnetic field in the solar atmosphere.  相似文献

Reversed-polarity structures of chromospheric magnetic fields are magnetic gulfs and islands of opposite polarity relative to the underlying photospheric fields. In this paper data measured with the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope of the Huairou Solar Observing Station in Beijing were analyzed. From more than 300 pairs of photospheric magnetograms (in FeI λ5324.19 Å) and relevant chromospheric magnetograms (Hβ λ4861.34 Å), the reality of the reversed-polarity structures is demonstrated. According to an analysis of the fine structure of the magnetic field in the two layers of active regions, we found that there are probably four different types as follows: Type A: magnetic islands of opposite polarity corresponding to photospheric fields appear in the chromospheric magnetogram. Type B: magnetic gulfs of opposite polarity corresponding to photospheric fields appear in the chromospheric magnetogram. Type C is the reverse of type B. That is, a magnetic gulf of opposite polarity corresponding to the chromospheric field appears in the photospheric magnetogram. Type D is the reverse of type A.  相似文献

We report an instance of localized chromospheric polarity reversal in a rapidly-formed sunspot which appears to be part of new emerging flux. The chromospheric polarity reversal is preceded by extraordinarily fast growth of the transverse magnetic field and an increase in the line-of-sight magnetic flux of the newly formed sunspot in the photosphere. The strength of this reversal is more than 350 G at maximum, in contrast to approximately - 1300 G for the line-of-sight field and 400 G for the transverse field in the photosphere. Continued flare activity takes place around the site of the reversal with progressively increasing flare size and extent. It is suggested that a kinked or knotted flux loop, or a self-closed flux system developed above the fast-forming sunspot. So far, this phenomenon has been revealed in several active regions.  相似文献

We observed the line-of-sight magnetic field in the chromosphereand photosphere of a large quiescent filament on the solar disk on September 6, 2001 using the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope in Huairou Solar Observing Station. The chromospheric and photospheric magnetograms together with Hβ filtergrams of the filament were examined. The filament was located on the neutral line of the large scale longitudinal magnetic field in the photosphere and the chromosphere. The lateral feet of the filament were found to be related to magnetic structures with opposite polarities. Two small lateral feet are linked to weak parasitic polarity. There is a negative magnetic structure in the photosphere under a break of the filament. At the location corresponding to the filament in the chromospheric magnetograms, the magnetic strength is found to be about 40-70 Gauss (measuring error about 39 Gauss). The magnetic signal indicates the amplitude and orientation of the internal magnetic field in the filament. We discuss several possible causes which may produce such a measured signal. A twisted magnetic configuration inside the filament is suggested .  相似文献

Recent studies of NOAA active region 10953, by Okamoto et al. (Astrophys. J. Lett. 673, 215, 2008; Astrophys. J. 697, 913, 2009), have interpreted photospheric observations of changing widths of the polarities and reversal of the horizontal magnetic field component as signatures of the emergence of a twisted flux tube within the active region and along its internal polarity inversion line (PIL). A filament is observed along the PIL and the active region is assumed to have an arcade structure. To investigate this scenario, MacTaggart and Hood (Astrophys. J. Lett. 716, 219, 2010) constructed a dynamic flux emergence model of a twisted cylinder emerging into an overlying arcade. The photospheric signatures observed by Okamoto et al. (2008, 2009) are present in the model although their underlying physical mechanisms differ. The model also produces two additional signatures that can be verified by the observations. The first is an increase in the unsigned magnetic flux in the photosphere at either side of the PIL. The second is the behaviour of characteristic photospheric flow profiles associated with twisted flux tube emergence. We look for these two signatures in AR 10953 and find negative results for the emergence of a twisted flux tube along the PIL. Instead, we interpret the photospheric behaviour along the PIL to be indicative of photospheric magnetic cancellation driven by flows from the dominant sunspot. Although we argue against flux emergence within this particular region, the work demonstrates the important relationship between theory and observations for the successful discovery and interpretation of signatures of flux emergence.  相似文献

The Ultraviolet Spectrometer and Polarimeter on the Solar Maximum Mission spacecraft has observed for the first time the longitudinal component of the magnetic field by means of the Zeeman effect in the transition region above a sunspot. The data presented here were obtained on three days in one sunspot, have spatial resolutions of 10 arc sec and 3 arc sec, and yield maximum field strengths greater than 1000 G above the umbrae in the spot. The method of analysis, including a line-width calibration feature used during some of the observations, is described in some detail in an appendix; the line width is required for the determination of the longitudinal magnetic field from the observed circular polarization. The transition region data for one day are compared with photospheric magnetograms from the Marshall Space Flight Center. Vertical gradients of the magnetic field are computed from the two sets of data; the maximum gradients of 0.41 to 0.62 G km–1 occur above the umbra and agree with or are smaller than values observed previously in the photosphere and low chromosphere.  相似文献

We have analyzed the H filtergrams and vector magnetograms of the active region NOAA 7070, in which a 3B/X3.3 flare occurred on February 27, 1992. The average area per sunspot of this active region was in declining phase at the time of the flare. The vector magnetograms indicate that the magnetic field was non-potential at the flaring site. Besides non-potentiality, the longitudinal field gradient was found to be the highest at the region showing initial H brightening. Further, in H filtergrams no appreciable change in the morphology of the filament tracing the magnetic neutral line was noticed in the post-flare stage. Also, the photospheric vector magnetograms show considerable shear in post-flare magnetic field of the active region. In this paper we present the observations and discuss the possible mechanism responsible for the 3B/X3.3 flare.  相似文献

The associations of flares to flux emergence and cancellation have been further examined and clarified with the aid of complete time sequences of vector magnetograms of an active region for a 4-day period around the central meridian passage. It is found that the emergence of new flux and its driven flux cancellation with existing flux is a wholly inseparable, elementary process in the active region, favorable for flare occurence. The early discovery ofstructures magnetique evolutive (Martreset al., 1968) is confirmed and identified to be the net result of this process. All events of flux cancellation appear in the interface of two topologically separated magnetic loops. Direct indications of magnetic reconnection between two cancelling components in the photospheric layer are identified. The cancellation is most likely a slow reconnection in the lower atmosphere of the Sun. The quite popular view of interpreting flux cancellation as a pure flux submergence could not fit the magnetic topology learned from alignments of the transverse magnetic field. In this sense, the association of flares to flux cancellation seems to represent a coupling of the slow reconnection in the lower atmosphere to the fast reconnection higher in the corona. This slow reconnection can even take place below the photosphere. In one case, an inferred sub-photospheric reconnection eventually prevents one pole of an emerging flux region with the polarity opposite to the background from showing up at the photospheric level.Six of all eight flares which appeared in this period are spatially and temporally associated with the emergence of new flux and its driven cancellation. They might be divided into two groups. The first group of flares appears at the early phase of flux emergence and in close proximity to the cancelling site between new and old flux; the second ones appear after several hours of flux cancellation, centering around the cancelling site.  相似文献

We have compared the rates at which flux emerges in active and quiet solar regions within the sunspot belts. The emerging flux regions (EFRs) were identified by the appearance of arch filament structures in H. All EFRs in high-resolution films of active regions made at Big Bear in 1978 were counted. The comparable rate of flux emergence in quiet regions was obtained from SGD data and independently from EFRs detected outside the active region perimeter on the same films. The rate of flux emergence is 10 times higher in active regions than in quiet regions. A sample of all active regions in 31 days of 1983 gave a ratio of 7.5. We discuss possible mechanisms which might funnel new magnetic flux to regions of strong magnetic field.  相似文献

By comparing TRACE 171 Å observations with photospheric magnetograms, we find that the root of TRACE 171 Å emission is centered in magnetic elements in simultaneous Huairou photospheric magnetogram and the luminosity of TRACE 171 Å emission is not always in proportion to the strength of the corresponding photospheric magnetic field. While TRACE emission from an active region shows an obvious upward extension as a whole, fibril-like emissions from network elements show little extension along the structure from the root of each emission to 40′′ higher up in the solar atmosphere. Together with previous studies by Zhang and Zhang (1999, 2000), it is suggested that the magnetic fields in active regions and quiet-Sun regions present different spatial structures from the solar photosphere to the chromosphere and maybe even in the corona.  相似文献

Based on photospheric vector magnetograms obtained at Huairou Solar Observing Station, we have studied the evolution of magnetic nonpotentiality in NOAA AR 9077 from 11 to 15 July 2000. We focus our analysis on the daily change of nonpotential characteristics in the photospheric magnetic field preceding the `Bastille Day' flare. We have identified the following evolving patterns: (1) The shear-angle distribution underwent dramatic change in the filament channel. At a key site of the filament environment, the magnetic shear changed sign from positive to negative. (2) The old current systems disrupted, and new but weaker systems formed before this major event. Similar changes are identified for the longitudinal current helicity. (3) The source field weakened before the flare, and the density of free magnetic energy decreased at the photospheric level. These obvious changes lasted at least nine hours before the `Bastille Day' flare, and they took place where a large amount of magnetic flux disappeared in magnetic flux cancellation. The site of dramatic changes is also found to coincide with the base of helical magnetic ropes which were seen in a 3-D force-free reconstruction. We suggest that the observed evolution of the magnetic nonpotentiality represents a continuous transportation of magnetic energy and complexity from the lower atmosphere to the corona. This transportation seems to be responsible for the energy build-up for the major flare. Moreover, the slow magnetic reconnection in the lower atmosphere, observed as magnetic flux cancellation, appears to play a key role in this energy build-up process. Radio observations of some active regions (ARs) obtained with the Nobeyama radioheliograph at λ=1.76cm are used for estimating the magnetic field strength in the upper chromosphere, based on thermal bremsstrahlung. The results are compared with the magnetic field strength in the photosphere from observations with the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope (SMFT) at Huairou Solar Observing Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory. The difference in the magnetic field strength between the two layers seems reasonable. The solar radio maps of active regions obtained with the Nobeyama radioheliograph, both in total intensity (I-map) and in circular polarizations (V-map), are compared with the optical magnetograms obtained with the SMFT. The comparison between the radio map in circular polarization and the longitudinal photospheric magnetogram of a plage region suggest that the radio map in circular polarization is a kind of magnetogram of the upper chromosphere. The comparison of the radio map in total intensity with the photospheric vector magnetogram of an AR shows that the radio map in total intensity gives indications of magnetic loops in the corona, thus we have a method of defining the coronal magnetic structure from the radio I-maps at λ=1.76 cm. Analysing the I-maps, we identified three components: (a) a compact bright source; (b) a narrow elongated structure connecting two main magnetic islands of opposite polarities (observed in both the optical and radio magnetograms); (c) a wide, diffuse, weak component that corresponds to a wide structure in the solar active region which shows in most cases an S or a reversed S contour, which is probably due to the differential rotation of the Sun. The last two components suggest coronal loops on different spatial scales above the neutral line of the longitudinal photospheric magnetic field.  相似文献
