We report the detection of the slow-moving wind into which the compact supernova remnant SN 1997ab is expanding. Echelle spectroscopy provides clear evidence for a well-resolved narrow (full width at zero intensity, FWZI ∼180 km s−1) P Cygni profile, both in Hα and Hβ, superimposed on the broad emission lines of this compact supernova remnant. From theoretical arguments we know that the broad and strong emission lines imply a circumstellar density ( n  ≥ 107 cm−3). This, together with our detection, implies a massive and slow stellar wind experienced by the progenitor star shortly prior to the explosion.  相似文献

Supernova remnants (SNRs) are one of the most energetic astrophysical events and are thought to be the dominant source of Galactic cosmic rays (CRs). A recent report on observations from the Fermi satellite has shown a signature of pion decay in the gamma-ray spectra of SNRs. This provides strong evidence that high-energy protons are accelerated in SNRs. The actual gamma-ray emission from pion decay should depend on the diffusion of CRs in the interstellar medium. In order to quantitatively analyse the diffusion of high-energy CRs from acceleration sites, we have performed test particle numerical simulations of CR protons using a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulation of an interstellar medium swept-up by a blast wave. We analyse the diffusion of CRs at a length scale of order a few pc in our simulated SNR, and find the diffusion of CRs is precisely described by a Bohm diffusion, which is required for efficient acceleration at least for particles with energies above 30 TeV for a realistic interstellar medium. Although we find the possibility of a superdiffusive process (travel distance ∝ t0.75) in our simulations, its effect on CR diffusion at the length scale of the turbulence in the SNR is limited.  相似文献

I discuss the nature of the compact X-ray source in the center of the supernova remnant RCW 103. Several models, based on the accretion onto a compact object are briefly discussed. I show that it is more likely that the central X-ray source is an accreting neutron star than an accreting black hole. I also argue that models of a disrupted binary system consisting of an old accreting neutron star and a new one observed as a 69-ms pulsar are most favored. In this paper we argue that the PSR B 1849+00 and SNR G33.6+0.1 are possibly associated, because (1) there is only a small probability of chance superposition in this sky region; (2) although the estimates of the distance and the age of the two objects contain a high degree of uncertainty, they are not inconsistent; (3) the implied transverse velocity of the pulsar is also quite reasonable according to the measured distribution of pulsar velocities. The association could be verified by measuring the proper motion of PSR B 1849+00, which is estimated to be about 10 mas·yr–1.  相似文献

The neutral hydrogen at 21 cm has been investigated with the RATAN-600 radio telescope around the supernova remnant G 65.3+5.7, which has the largest angular sizes in the group of shell remnants. An expanding HI shell left after an old supernova explosion with an energy of ∼1051 erg and an age of 440 000 yr coincident in coordinates with the radio and optical remnant has been discovered. Since an X-ray emission from a much younger (27 000 yr) supernova remnant is observed in the same region and the shells detected by nebular lines have probably intermediate ages, we suggest that several successive supernova explosions have occurred here.  相似文献

Based on RATAN-600 21-cm H I line observations with an angular resolution of 2.4', we studied the neutral-hydrogen distribution in the region of the supernova remnant (SNR) S 147 (G180.0-1.7). We detected a rotating shell of neutral gas immediately adjacent to the SNR that is expanding at a velocity of 20 km s?1. The H I shell is less distinct in the southeastern part and at negative radial velocities. The outer shell diameter is 90 pc; the H I mass in the shell is 2.2 × 104M. These data allowed us to estimate the SNR age, 6.5×105 yr, and the initial explosion energy, 2.2×1051 erg.  相似文献

The well-known shell supernova remnant (SNR) HB3 is part of a feature-rich star-forming region together with the nebulae W3, W4, and W5. We study the HI structure around this SNR using five RATAN-600 drift curves obtained at a wavelength of 21 cm with an angular resolution of 2′ in one coordinate over the radial-velocity range ?183 to +60 km s?1 in a wider region of the sky and with a higher sensitivity than in previous works by other authors. The spatial-kinematic distribution of HI features around the SNR clearly shows two concentric expanding shells of gas that surround the SNR and coincide with it in all three coordinates (α, δ, and V). The outer shell has a radius of 133 pc, a thickness of 24 pc, and an expansion velocity of 48 km s?1. The mass of the gas in it is ≈2.3 × 105M. For the inner shell, these parameters are 78 pc, 36 pc, 24 km s? 1, and 0.9 × 105M, respectively. The inner shell is immediately adjacent to the SNR. Assuming that the outer shell was produced by the stellar wind and the inner shell arose from the shock wave of the SNR proper, we estimated the age of the outer shell, ≈1.7 × 106 yr, and the mechanical luminosity of the stellar wind, 1.5 × 1038 erg s?1. The inner shell has an age of ≈106 yr and corresponds to a total supernova explosion energy of ≈1052 erg.  相似文献

The neutral hydrogen emission at 21 cm has been investigated with the RATAN-600 radio telescope in the vicinity of the supernova remnant HB9. A clumpyHI shell with radial motions surrounding the remnant has been detected. Its measured parameters contradict the connection with a shock wave from a supernova explosion. The shell formation under the action of a wind from a star that exploded as a supernova at the end of its evolution seems more realistic. The characteristics of the star obtained from the observed shell parameters are the following: a wind power of 0.5 × 1038 erg s?1, a mass-loss rate of 3.7 × 10?5 M yr?1, and an age of 3 × 106 yr. Given the measurement errors, the mass of the star is estimated to be >8M .  相似文献

We consider the self-similar problem of a supernova explosion in a radially inhomogeneous medium by taking into account the generation of accelerated relativistic particles. The initial density of the medium is assumed to decrease with distance from the explosion center as a power law, ρ 0 = A/r θ. We use a two-fluid approach in which the total pressure in the medium is the sum of the circumstellar gas pressure and the relativistic particle pressure. The relativistic particle pressure at the shock front is specified as an external parameter. This approach is applicable in the case where the diffusion coefficient of accelerated particles is small and the thickness of the shock front is much smaller than its radius. We have numerically solved a system of ordinary differential equations for the dimensionless quantities that describe the velocity and density behind the shock front as well as the nonrelativistic gas and relativistic particle pressures for various parameters of the inhomogeneity of the medium and various compression ratios of the medium at the shock front. We have established that the shock acceleration of cosmic rays affects most strongly the formation of a supernova shell (making it thinner) in a homogeneous circumstellar medium. A decrease in the circumstellar matter density with distance from the explosion center causes the effect of shock-accelerated relativistic particles on the supernova shell formation to weaken considerably. Inhomogeneity of the medium makes the shell thicker and less dense, while an increase in the compression ratio of the medium at the shock front causes the shell to become thinner and denser. As the relativistic particle density increases, the effect of circumstellar matter inhomogeneity on the shell formation becomes weaker.  相似文献

We present new results of our kinematic study of the supernova remnant S8 in the galaxy IC 1613. Based on our observations at the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope with the two-dimensional MPFS spectrograph and the SCORPIO focal reducer in the mode of a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer, we have determined the expansion velocity of the bright optical nebula. Analysis of the 21-cm VLA radio observations for the galaxy confirms our previously suggested model for a supernova explosion in a cavity surrounded by a dense HI shell and a collision of S8 with the shell wall.  相似文献

We have used the Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS) on the 2.3 m telescope at Siding Spring Observatory to map the [O III] 5007 Å dynamics of the young oxygen-rich supernova remnant N132D in the Large Magellanic Cloud. From the resultant data cube, we have been able to reconstruct the full 3D structure of the system of [O III] filaments. The majority of the ejecta form a ring of ~12 pc in diameter inclined at an angle of ~25 degrees to the line of sight. We conclude that SNR N132D is approaching the end of the reverse shock phase before entering the fully thermalized Sedov phase of evolution. We speculate that the ring of oxygen-rich material comes from ejecta in the equatorial plane of a bipolar explosion, and that the overall shape of the SNR is strongly influenced by the pre-supernova mass loss from the progenitor star. We find tantalizing evidence of a polar jet associated with a very fast oxygen-rich knot, and clear evidence that the central star has interacted with one or more dense clouds in the surrounding ISM.  相似文献

We have carried out CO J = 2-1 and CO J = 3-2 observations toward Tycho's supernova remnant(SNR) using the KOSMA 3m-telescope.From these observations,we identified three molecular clouds(MCs) around the SNR.The small cloud in the southwest was discovered for the first time.In the north and east,two MCs(Cloud A and Cloud B) adjacent in space display a bow-shaped morphology,and have broad emission lines,which provide some direct evidences of the SNR-MCs interaction.The MCs are revealed at-69--59 km s-1,coinci...  相似文献

We present the photometric and spectroscopic evolution of the type IIn SN 1995G in NGC 1643, on the basis of 4 years of optical and infrared observations. This supernova shows very flat optical light curves similar to SN 1988Z, with a slow decline rate at all times. The spectra are characterized by strong Balmer lines with multiple components in emission and with a P Cygni absorption component blueshifted by only 700 km s−1. This feature indicates the presence of a slowly expanding shell above the SN ejecta as in the case of SNe 1994aj and 1996L. As in other SNe IIn, the slow luminosity decline cannot be explained only with a radioactive energy input, and an additional source of energy is required, most likely that produced by the interaction between supernova ejecta and a pre-existent circumstellar medium (CSM). It was estimated that the shell material has a density   n H≫108 cm-3  , consistent with the absence of forbidden lines in the spectra. About 2 years after the burst the low-velocity shell is largely overtaken by the SN ejecta and the luminosity drops at a faster rate.  相似文献

We investigated the kinematics of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) in the old supernova remnant CTB 80 using the Fabry-Perot interferometer of the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope. In addition to the previously known expansion of the system of bright filaments with a velocity of 100–200 km s?1, we detected weak high-velocity features in the Hα line at least up to velocities of 400–450 km s?1. We analyzed the morphology of the PWN in the Hα, [S II], and [O III] lines using HST archival data and discuss its nature. The shape of the central filamentary shell, which is determined by the emission in the [O III] line and in the radio continuum, is shown to be consistent with the bow-shock model for a significant (about 60°) inclination of the pulsar’s velocity vector to the plane of the sky. In this case, the space velocity of the pulsar is twice as high as its tangential velocity, i.e., it reaches ?500 km s?1, and PSR B1951+32 is the first pulsar whose radial velocity about 40 km s?1 has been estimated from PWN observations. The shell-like Hα-structures outside the bow shock front in the east and the west could be associated with both the pulsar’s jets and the pulsar wind breakthrough due to the layered structure of the extended CTB 80 shell.  相似文献

Based on RATAN-600 21-cm line observations with an angular resolution of 2.4′ over a wide range of radial velocities, we analyze the neutral-hydrogen distribution in the region of the SNR G78.2+2.1. In addition to an H I shell at low radial velocities immediately surrounding the radio remnant, we detected an extended expanding H I shell, ≈3° in diameter, at a radial velocity of ?25 km s?1, which closely coincides in coordinates and angular sizes with the outer X-ray shell discovered by Lozinskaya et al. (2000). The Hα emission studied by these authors in the SNR region also has a secondary peak at radial velocities from ?45 to ?20 km s?1. Since the radial velocities of these two objects differ significantly, their distances can be assumed to differ as well; i.e., a chance projection of two distinct objects is observed.  相似文献

A compact structure of a low-mass Type I presupernovae is assumed to be an essential feature of the hydrodynamical problem dealing with the supernova Type I (SNI) envelope outbursts. This structure is characterized by a degenerate carbon-oxygen core, which suffers a thermonuclear explosion of carbon fuel (M 0≃1.40M ), and by a compact lowmass envelope (M e ≲0.1M ) with external radiusR e≃109 cm. The parameters, of this hydrostatic envelope are specified and then, for a relatively small explosion energy, ofW 0≃(2–10)×1049 erg, hydrodynamic problem of the envelope ejection is solved numerically. This energy comes from neutrino-induced detonative carbon burning. The resulting structure of the SNI atmosphere expanding with the velocity gradient can be employed for an interpretation of the observed SNI spectra. In accordance with our previous papers, the SNI light curves are considered to occur due to an additional slow (with time-scale 106–107 s) release of the bulk of the SNI energy,W≃1051, erg. The slow energy release does not, however, affect the structure of the outermost expanding layers of the envelope which are responsible for the SNI spectra. A short (Δt≃10−2 s) burst of soft (2–10 keV) X-rays with total radiated energy of about 1040 erg is found to appear 10–20 days before the SNI optical maximum.  相似文献

The magnetic splitting peculiarities of the absorption lines in the sunspot spectrum are considered. The most common and typical of them is breaking of all Stokes parameter symmetry in regard to the line center. The possible reason of this effect is the macroscopic gas motion with inhomogeneous velocity. Computed contours are given for the line Fe i λ5250 Å with various combinations of magnetic and velocity fields. Magneto-optical effects within the line which are connected with the magnetic and velocity field inhomogeneity are discussed. The observation results are discussed for longitudinal magnetic field zero lines. These observations were carried out for the sunspot and photosphere in two spectral lines Fe i λλ 5250 and 5233 Å. In the sunspot the regular displacement of one zero line with respect to the other zero line takes place whereas in the photosphere the displacements are random. The possible reason of the regular displacement is the change of the magnetic field direction in the different optical layers wherein corresponding spectral lines are formed effectively. The connection between the zero line displacement of a longitudinal magnetic field and the crossover effect is discussed. The computation results are given which agree with observations and illustrate the above-mentioned relationship. The influence of the Stokes parameter asymmetry on the measured magnetic field signals is considered.  相似文献
