On the basis of multifrequency solar radio observations made on RATAN–600 radiotelescope with high spatial resolution at nine wavelengths in the 2–32–wavelength range is shown that filaments and cavities are well detected on the solar scans at short centimeter wavelengths as the regions of low radio brightness with angular dimensions of 25′–80′ in E—W direction. The tendency of decreasing radio sizes for cavities and filaments from 2.0 to 8.0 cm is observed. The coronal hole (CH) is more contrast in the range of 8–32 cm. The radio size of CH in E—N direction increases from 2′ (at 8.2) to 5′.0 (at 31.6 cm). The spectra of the brightness temperature of CH and the quiet Sun are obtained. The brightness temperature of CH is twice lower than that of the quiet Sun at wavelength of 31.6 cm.  相似文献

Solar radio fluxes, Zurich relative sunspot number Rz, and Solar Call plage indexes daily values for the period 1957–1980 are analyzed in order to test the stability of the series with respect to time and solar activity. It is found that between the series of the 3,8 and 10 cm radio fluxes and the series of Rz no significant trend with time, solar activity or solar cycle exists when mean values for periods of the order of one year are considered. Then, the daily solar u.v.-irradiances measured since 1969 for H-Lyman-alpha and-beta, the Hel-resonance line and HeII-Lyman-alpha are compared with the 10.7 cm radio fluxes and adjusted. After adjustment, the behaviour of the four series of irradiances with respect to the 10.7 cm flux shows a similar structure as the behaviour typical for the series of the 3 cm or the 8 cm fluxes. This adjustment allows the determination of the slope of the mean variation of the u.v.-irradiances with solar activity. The increases from solar minimum to solar maximum related to the minimum values are respectively : 60% for H-Lyman-alpha, 80% for H-Lyman-beta and 90% for Hel and Hell.  相似文献

In experiments that were regularly carried out in 1999–2002 with Pushchino radio telescopes (Russian Academy of Sciences), the study of the radial dependence of the scattering of radio emission from compact natural sources was extended to regions of circumsolar plasma farther from the Sun. Based on a large body of data, we show that, apart from the standard transonic acceleration region located at distances of 10–40 R from the Sun, there is a region of repeated acceleration at distances of 34–60 R attributable to the equality between the solar wind velocity and the Alfvénic velocity. The repetition in the trans-Alfvénic region of the characteristic features of the radial stream structure observed in the transonic region (the existence of a precursor, a narrow region of reduced scattering that precedes a wide region of enhanced scattering) suggests that the main characteristic features of the resonant acceleration of solar wind streams are preserved up to distances of the order of 60 R.  相似文献

Solar observations in the mid-infrared 8 – 14 μm band continuum were carried out with cadence of 5 frames per second, in December 2007. Rapid small heated sources, with a typical duration of the order of seconds, were found on the bright plage-like areas around sunspots, in association with relatively weak GOES soft X-ray bursts. This work presents the analysis of fast mid-infrared flashes detected during a GOES B2.0-class event on 10 December 2007, beginning at about 10:40 UT. Rapid brightness temperature enhancements of 0.5 to 2.0 K were detected at the Earth by a microbolometer array, using a telescope with 10.5 cm diameter aperture producing a diffraction-limited photometric beam of 25 arc sec. The minimum detectable temperature change was of 0.1 K. The corresponding fluxes are 30 – 130 solar flux units. At the solar surface the estimated rapid brightenings represented a temperature enhancement of 50 – 150 K.  相似文献

The solar flare of November 4, 2001, at 16.03–16.57 UT (GOES soft X-ray class X1.0, optical importance 3B, and coordinates N06W180) is used as an example to investigate the relationship between sporadic VHF radio bursts and charged particle fluxes (of both solar and magnetospheric origins) at an altitude of 500 km. The radio background intensity was recorded at frequencies of 280, 300, 151, and 500 MHz by nondirectional ground-based mid-latitude radio antennas spaced ~700 km apart. The results of our radio measurements are compared with the dynamics of 0.2–12 MeV electron and 1–5 MeV proton fluxes based on data from the MKL instrument onboard the CORONAS-F satellite (the orbit altitude and inclination are 500 km and 82.5°, respectively).  相似文献

The analysis of observations of the eclipse on August 1, 2008, at wavelengths of 10.5 and 12 cm demonstrated that, in the epoch of deep minimum between the 23rd and 24th cycles of solar activity, the radio radius of the solar disk in the equatorial direction was 120 × 103 km larger than the radio radius in the polar direction. In this case, the brightness temperature of the polar region turned out to be of the order of (35–37) × 103 K and corresponded to the radiation emission from upper layers of the chromosphere from an altitude of about 11 × 103 km. At the heliolatitude <25° beyond the visible disk at a distance of about 70 × 103 km from the photosphere an increased radio brightness of up to 100 × 103 K was observed, which testifies to the increased electron density in the equatorial zone of the corona at the complete absence of groups of spots on the solar disk.  相似文献

The radio radii of the Sun at wavelengths of 5, 10.7, 12, and 95 cm have been determined from eclipse observations as R5 ?? (1.0 ± 0.015)R ??, R 10,12 = (1.05 ± 0.003)R ??, and R 95 = (1.2 ± 0.02)R ??. The bright-ness temperatures of quiet solar disk areas at these wavelengths have turned out to be Td 5 = (22 ± 2) × 103, Td 10 = (44 ± 3) × 103, Td 12 = (47 ± 3) × 103, and Td 95 = (1000 ± 30) × 103 K. There were local sources of radio emission with angular sizes from 1.9 to 2.4 arcmin and brightness temperatures from 80 × 103 to 1.75 × 106 K above sunspot groups at short wavelengths of 5, 10.7, and 12 cm. The radio flux from the local sources at 95 cm turned out to be below the detection threshold of 1.0 × 10?22 W m?2 Hz?1. Comparison of the values obtained with the results of observations of another eclipse on August 1, 2008, occurred at the epoch of minimum of the 11-year solar cycle has shown that the radio radius of the Sun at 10.7 and 12 cm increased from 1.016 R ?? to 1.05 ± 0.003R ??, the height of the emitting layer at these wavelengths moved from 11 × 103 km to (30 ± 7) × 103 K, and the brightness temperature of the quiet Sun rose from (35.8 ± 0.4) × 103 K to (44 ± 3) × 103 K at 10.7 cm and from (37.3 ± 0.4) × 103 K to (47 ± 3) × 103 K at 12 cm. Consequently, the parameters of the solar atmosphere changed noticeably in 2 years in connection with the beginning of the new solar cycle 24. The almost complete absence of local sources at the longest wavelength of 95 cm suggests that the magnetic fields of the sunspot groups on January 4, 2011, were weak and did not penetrate to the height from where their emission could originate. If this property is inherent in most sunspot groups of cycle 24, then it can be responsible for its low flare activity.  相似文献

It is well known that the oscillating MHD waves drive periodic variations in the magnetic field. But how the MHD waves can be triggered in the flaring loops is not yet well known. It seems to us that this problem should be connected with the physical processes occurring in the flare loop during a solar flare. A peculiar solar flare event at 04:00–04:51 UT on May 23, 1990 was observed simultaneously with time resolutions 1 s and 10 ms by Nanjing University Observatory and Beijing Normal University Observatory, which are about 1000 km apart, at 3.2 cm and 2 cm wavelengths, respectively. Two kinds of pulsations with quasi-periods 1.5 s and 40 s were found in radio bursts at the two short centimeter waves; however, the shorter quasi-periodic pulsations were superimposed upon the longer ones. From the data analysis of the above-mentioned quasi-periodic pulsations and associated phenomena in radio and soft X-ray emissions during this flare event published in Solar Geophysical Data (SGD), the authors suggest that the sudden increase in plasma pressure inside (or underlying) the flare kernel due to the upward moving chromospheric evaporated gas, which is caused by the explosive collision heating of strong non-thermal electrons injected downwards from the microwave burst source, plays the important role of triggering agents for MHD oscillations (fast magneto-acoustic mode and Alfvén mode) of the flare loop. These physical processes occurring in the flare loop during the impulsive phase of the solar flare may be used to account for the origin and observational characteristics of quasi-periodic pulsations in solar radio bursts at the two short centimeter wavelengths during the flare event of 1990 May 23. In addition, the average physical parameters N, T, B inside or underlying the flare kernel can be also evaluated.  相似文献

Several progressions in the temporal characteristics of full-disk solar UV and EUV fluxes have been identified that raise many questions about the solar physics involved. The collective effect of numerous enhancements smaller than scaled plages contribute significantly to the solar cycle variations, especially for emissions from the cooler portions of the corona and the chromosphere. Active-region remnants are suggested to have a strong role even in solar-rotation induced variations late in an episode of major activity. Although cool coronal EUV emissions are long lasting, the persistence of the solar-rotation induced variations is even greater at photospheric UV wavelengths. Gyroresonance and possibly nonthermal radio emission at centimeter wavelengths are suggested to be particularly important during the first solar rotation of an episode of major activity.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the analysis of the radio observations of the solar eclipse at wavelengths 3.2, 11.1 and 21 cm in Xinjiang, on 1968 Sept. 22. From the observations, we have determined the flux densities, angular diameters and heights of the localized radio sources on the solar disk, circumstances of the radio eclipse, equivalent radius of the radio Sun and certain features of a small radio burst that occurred during the eclipse. We have also investigated the correlation between the flux density of the localized sources and the activity of the active regions, as measured by the integrated brightness of plages and the sunspot area.  相似文献

We consider the relationship of electromagnetic radiation in the three most intense flares of solar cycle 23, more specifically, those of October 28, 2003, January 20, 2005, and September 7, 2005, to the acceleration and release of protons into interplanetary space. The impulsive phase of these flares lasted ~ 20 min and consisted of at least three energy release episodes, which differed by their manifestation in the soft (1–8 Å, GOES) and hard (>150 keV, INTEGRAL) X-ray ranges as well as at radio frequencies of 245 MHz and 8.8 GHz. The protons and electrons were accelerated in each episode, but with a different efficiency; the relativistic protons were accelerated only after 5–6min of impulsive-phase development after the onset of a coronal mass ejection. It is at this time that maximum hard X-ray fluxes were observed in the September 7, 2005 event, which exceeded severalfold those for the other two flares considered. We associate the record fluxes of protons with energies > 200MeV observed in the heliosphere in the September 7, 2005 event with the dynamics of the impulsive phase. The extreme intensities of the microwave emission in the October 28, 2003 and January 20, 2005 events were probably attributable to the high-energy electron trapping conditions and did not reflect the acceleration process.  相似文献

Radio noise storms show that suprathermal electrons (a few tens of keV) are present in the vicinity of active regions during several hours or even a few days. Where and how these electrons are energized is not yet well known. A flare-like sudden energy release in the active region is in general observed at the onset of noise storms, either as a fully developed flare or, more often, as a soft X-ray brightening without conspicuous H signature. In order to investigate to what extent electrons energized in the active region contribute to the noise-storm emission in the overlying coronal structures, we combine radio imaging (Nançay radioheliograph) with X-ray spectral observations at photon energies of a few keV (GOES) and - for the first time - around 10 keV (WATCH/GRANAT). In two of four studied events the WATCH data show a significant excess of the deka-keV count rate above the expectation from an isothermal fit to the GOES fluxes. Although the electron population producing the deka-keV X-ray emission would be energetic enough to power the simultaneous radio noise storm, the much longer duration of the radio emission requires time-extended particle acceleration. The acceleration probably occurs in the corona overlying the X-ray emitting region, triggered by the processes which give rise to the X-ray brightenings.  相似文献

With increasing solar activity since 2010, many flares from the backside of the Sun have been observed by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUVI) on either of the twin STEREO spacecraft. Our objective is to estimate their X-ray peak fluxes from EUVI data by finding a relation of the EUVI with GOES X-ray fluxes. Because of the presence of the Fe xxiv line at 192 Å, the response of the EUVI 195 Å channel has a secondary broad peak around 15 MK, and its fluxes closely trace X-ray fluxes during the rise phase of flares. If the flare plasma is isothermal, the EUVI flux should be directly proportional to the GOES flux. In reality, the multithermal nature of the flare and other factors complicate the estimation of the X-ray fluxes from EUVI observations. We discuss the uncertainties, by comparing GOES fluxes with the high cadence EUV data from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). We conclude that the EUVI 195 Å data can provide estimates of the X-ray peak fluxes of intense flares (e.g., above M4 in the GOES scale) to small uncertainties. Lastly we show examples of intense flares from regions far behind the limb, some of which show eruptive signatures in AIA images.  相似文献

The radiation fluxes of the NGC 1275 galaxy central region are being observed on the 1.25-m telescope, using a scanning spectrophotometer with the entrance aperture 10″ in three Δλ=80 Å spectral regions: Hβ, 4959+5007 Å [OIII] and continuum. There were 35 nights of observations during 1982–1987. With the time resolution of half an hour 379 measurements were obtained in each spectral region. The analysis of these results shows:
  1. The standard deviations of measurements in each spectral region 2–3 times exceed the errors of observations.
  2. The radiation flux distribution resembles to normal one only for Hβ line.
  3. Two-humps forms of continuum flux distribution curve is like that of radio emission in 8 mm and 2.6 cm wavelengths.
  4. Various forms of fluxes distribution curves of Hβ and [OIII] lines permit us to suppose that the location of these lines emission regions near the sources of excitation are different.

We demonstrate that even in the absence of flares there are very often volumes of hot plasma in the corona above active regions with temperatures in excess of 10 million degrees. Characteristics of this hot plasma and its time variations seem to be different in active regions of different phase of development. These hot plasma regions are sources of very weak, but clearly recognizable, X-ray emission above 3.5 keV. Long-lived X-ray brightenings, 104 times weaker than a flare, but lasting up to 10 hr occur predominantly along the H = 0 line, apparently low in the corona. After major flares, long-lived X-ray emission is also radiated from tops of arches extending high into the corona. Some other long-lived sources, far from the H = 0 line, may be associated with newly emerging flux. Short-lived X-ray sources, with fluxes ranging from subflare levels to 10?3 times the flare flux, last for 2 to more than 30 min and are probably microflares. They seem to be most frequent in growing young active regions and appear often in areas with newly emerging flux.  相似文献

We present our calculations of the expected characteristics of the integrated spectrum of thermal cyclotron radiation from a solar active region with a coronal magnetic loop. A hot torus is considered as a three-dimensional loop model. We show that the hot-loop emission can change appreciably the emission characteristics of the active region at centimeter and decimeter wavelengths. At certain loop parameters, the emission frequency spectrum can have a nonmonotonic and complex pattern with several peaks or contain narrow-band cyclotron lines. The polarization structure of the source with a hot loop is also complex and the polarization is repeatedly reversed over the observed frequency range under certain conditions. The revealed spectral-polarization peculiarities are considered from the standpoint of whether some atypical observed properties of the emission sources associated with solar active regions can be explained.  相似文献

The two-band soft X-ray observations of solar flares made by the Naval Research Laboratory’s (NRL) SOLar RADiation (SOLRAD) satellites and by the Geostationary Orbiting Environmental Satellites (GOES) operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center have produced a nearly continuous record of solar flare observations over a period of more than forty years (1969 – 2011). However, early GOES observations (i.e., GOES-2) and later (GOES-8 and subsequent missions) are not directly comparable due to changes in the conversion of measured currents to integrated fluxes in the two spectral bands that were adopted: 0.05 – 0.3 (or 0.4) nm, which we refer to as XS and 0.1 – 0.8 nm (XL). Furthermore, additional flux adjustments, using overlapping data sets, were imposed to provide consistency of flare-flux levels from mission to mission. This article evaluates the results of these changes and compares experimental GOES-8/GOES-2 results with changes predicted from modeled flare spectra. The factors by which recent GOES observations can be matched to GOES-2 are then optimized by adapting a technique first used to extrapolate GOES X-ray fluxes above saturation using ionospheric VLF radio phase enhancements. A nearly 20% increase in published GOES-8 XL data would be required to match to GOES-2 XL fluxes, which were based on observed flare spectra. On the other hand, a factor of 1.07 would match GOES-8 and later flat-spectrum 0.1 – 0.8 nm fluxes to GOES-2 XL if the latter data were converted to a flat-spectrum basis. Finally, GOES-8 observations are compared to solar soft X-ray estimates made concurrently with other techniques. Published GOES-8 0.1 – 0.8 nm fluxes are found to be 0.59 of the mean of these other determinations. Rescaling GOES to a realistic flare spectrum and removing a 30% downward adjustment applied to the GOES-8 measurements during initial data processing would place GOES-8 and later GOES XL fluxes at 0.94 of this XL mean. GOES-2 on the same scale would lie at about 0.70 of this mean. Significant uncertainties in the absolute levels of broad band soft X-ray fluxes still remain, however.  相似文献

Previous sub-THz studies were derived from single-event observations. We here analyze for the first time spectral trends for a larger collection of sub-THz bursts. The collection consists of a set of 16 moderate to small impulsive solar radio bursts observed at 0.2 and 0.4 THz by the Solar Submillimeter-wave Telescope (SST) in 2012?–?2014 at El Leoncito, in the Argentinean Andes. The peak burst spectra included data from new solar patrol radio telescopes (45 and 90 GHz), and were completed with microwave data obtained by the Radio Solar Telescope Network, when available. We critically evaluate errors and uncertainties in sub-THz flux estimates caused by calibration techniques and the corrections for atmospheric transmission, and introduce a new method to obtain a uniform flux scale criterion for all events. The sub-THz bursts were searched during reported GOES soft X-ray events of class C or larger, for periods common to SST observations. Seven out of 16 events exhibit spectral maxima in the range 5?–?40 GHz with fluxes decaying at sub-THz frequencies (three of them associated to GOES class X, and four to class M). Nine out of 16 events exhibited the sub-THz spectral component. In five of these events, the sub-THz emission fluxes increased with a separate frequency from that of the microwave spectral component (two classified as X and three as M), and four events have only been detected at sub-THz frequencies (three classified as M and one as C). The results suggest that the THz component might be present throughout, with the minimum turnover frequency increasing as a function of the energy of the emitting electrons. The peculiar nature of many sub-THz burst events requires further investigations of bursts that are examined from SST observations alone to better understand these phenomena.  相似文献
