We propose that the coronal source longitude and latitude of solar wind plasma can be estimated within 10°. Previous writers have argued that the solar wind in the ecliptic should originate near the equator and that a quasi-radial hypervelocity (QRH) approximation (constant radial flow) is valid beyond the magnetohydrodynamic critical points. We demonstrate that an extension of the QRH approximation (as if the solar wind flowed radially with constant velocity from the center of the Sun) yields a proper estimate of the high coronal source location at the release zone where the solar wind makes its transition to radial interplanetary flow. This extrapolated QRH (or EQRH) approximation succeeds because the two main corrections to this source estimate, coronal corotation and interplanetary acceleration, tend to cancel (the former correcting the source location eastward, the latter westward). Although this ideal spiral approximation was first suggested by Snyder and Neugebauer (1966), only recently has it been demonstrated that it relates a wide range of interplanetary plasma, magnetic field and energetic particle data to observed coronal magnetic structure. We estimate quantitatively the error in the EQRH approximation by comparison with steady-state streamlines predicted by azimuthally independent and dependent theoretical solutions to the steady-state plasma equations. We find the error in both cases 10° in longitude and therefore suggest that the EQRH approximation offers the means to relate observed solar initial conditions in the release zone directly to interplanetary measurements. If, in addition, the EQRH approximation also leads to agreement with low coronal structure, then there should be a straightforward correspondence to otherwise unobservable high coronal structure.  相似文献

A model of the large-scale magnetic field structure above the photosphere uses a Green's function solution to Maxwell's equations. Sources for the magnetic field are related to the observed photospheric field and to the field computed at a source surface about 0.6 R above the photosphere. The large-scale interplanetary magnetic field sector pattern is related to the field pattern at this source surface. The model generates magnetic field patterns on the source surface that compare well with interplanetary observations. Comparisons are shown with observations of the interplanetary magnetic field obtained by the IMP-3 satellite.  相似文献

This article reviews observational data on cataclysmic variables (CVs) whose orbital periods fall within the so-called period gap between 2 and 3 hours. The orbital period distribution of cataclysmic variables and the filling of the period gap by various types of CVs are demonstrated. Roughly half the stars in the period gap are magnetic, of which the majority are polars, while the other half (except a few stars) are SU UMa-type stars characterized by superbursts and superhumps. It is also interesting to note that those intermediate polars whose periods fall within the gap are among the stars with constant superhumps. The height above the galactic plane is estimated for the nonmagnetic stars and it is shown that, contrary to predictions, the stars in the period gap do not belong (except for one) to the spherical component of the galaxy. Light curves, some characteristic times, burst amplitudes, etc. are given for a number of Su UMa-type stars observed by the authors. The evolution of superbursts from the stars NY Ser, V725 Aql, and Var73 Dra is described. Observational data are presented on the classical nova V Per, a star whose period lies right in the middle of the period gap but whose status (magnetic or nonmagnetic) has still unclear.  相似文献

All the forms of the two-dimensional motions for any masses (negative and complex as well) at fixed centres corresponding to the real potential have been considered.

A comparison between theGeneral Catalogue of Cool Carbon Stars (CCS) and theAFGL Catalogue has been performed.Eighty-five stars have been found in common between the two lists. Eighty-four stars which were present in Baumert's comparison between CCS and the 2 Sky Survey have no counterpart in the AFGL. Four new tentative identifications are given. The analysis of the two colours diagrams K-[4.2 ] vs. I-K and I-[4.2 ] vs. [4.2 ]-[11 ] led to the conclusion that all the infrared emission from the sources seems to come from a single circumstellar shell.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new parameter, the shear angle of vector magnetic fields, , to describe the non-potentiality of magnetic fields in active regions, which is defined as the angle between the observed vector magnetic field and its corresponding current-free field. In the case of highly inclined field configurations, this angle is approximately equal to the angular shear, , defined by Hagyardet al. (1984). The angular shear, , can be considered as the projection of the shear angle, , on the photosphere. For the active region studied, the shear angle, , seems to have a better and neater correspondence with flare activity than does . The shear angle, , gives a clearer explanation of the non-potentiality of magnetic fields. It is a better measure of the deviation of the observed magnetic field from a potential field, and is directly related to the magnetic free energy stored in non-potential fields.  相似文献

This paper presents an integrated analysis of GOES 6, 7 and neutron monitor observations of solar cosmic-ray event following the 1990 May 24 solar flare. We have used a model which includes particle injection at the Sun and at the interplanetary shock front and particle propagation through the interplanetary medium. The model does not attempt to simulate the physical processes of coronal transport and shock acceleration, therefore the injections at the Sun and at the shock are represented by source functions in the particle transport equation. By fitting anisotropy and angle-average intensity profiles of high-energy (>30 MeV) protons as derived from the model to the ones observed by neutron monitors and at GOES 6 and 7, we have determined the parameters of particle transport, the injection rate and spectrum at the source. We have made a direct fit of uncorrected GOES data with both primary and secondary proton channels taken into account.The 1990 May 24–26 energetic proton event had a double-peaked temporal structure at energies 100 MeV. The Moreton (shock) wave nearby the flare core was seen clearly before the first injection of accelerated particles into the interplanetary medium. Some (correlated with this shock) acceleration mechanism which operates in the solar corona at a height up to one solar radius is regarded as a source of the first (prompt) increase in GOES and neutron monitor counting rates. The proton injection spectrum during this increase is found to be hard (spectral index 1.6) at lower energies ( 30 MeV) with a rapid steepening above 300 MeV. Large values of the mean free path ( 1.8 AU for 1 GV protons in the vicinity of the Earth) led to a high anisotropy of arriving protons. The second (delayed) proton increase was presumably produced by acceleration/injection of particles by an interplanetary shock wave at height of 10 solar radii. The region around the Herbig Ae/Be star LkH198 was imaged at 10m with the CAMIRAS camera at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. We discovered a deeply embedded companion 6 north of LkH198, which may be responsible for most of the far-infrared emission in the region and for driving the molecular flow. LkH198 appears point-like at our resolution (FWHM 1.3), excluding an extended envelope of transiently heated small grains as the dominant origin of the mid-infrared excess in that star.  相似文献

A comparison is made between the stability criteria of Hill and that of Laplace to determine the stability of outer planetary orbits encircling binary stars. The restricted, analytically determined results of Hill's method by Szebehely and co-workers and the general, numerically integrated results of Laplace's method by Graziani and Black are compared for varying values of the mass parameter =m 2/(m 1+m 2). For 00.15, the closest orbit (lower limit of radius) an outer planet in a binary system can have and still remain stable is determined by Hill's stability criterion. For >0.15, the critical radius is determined by Laplace's stability criterion. It appears that the Graziani-Black stability criterion describes the critical orbit within a few percent for all values of .  相似文献

A limiting case of the problem of three bodies (m 0,m 1,m 2) is considered. The distance between the bodiesm 0 andm 1 is assumed to be much less than that between their barycenter and the bodym 2 so that one may use Hill's approximation for the potential of interaction between the bodiesm 1 andm 2. In the absence of resonant relations the potential, double-averaged by the mean longitudes ofm 1 andm 2, describes the secular evolution of the orbits in the first approximation of the perturbation theory.As Harrington has shown, this problem is integrable. In the present paper a qualitative investigation of the evolution of the orbits and comparison with the analogous case in the restricted problem are carried out.The set of initial data is found, for which a collision between the bodiesm 0 andm 1 takes place.The region of the parameters of the problem is determined, for which plane retrograde motion is unstable.In a special example the results of approximate analysis are compared with those of numerical integration of the exact equations of the three body problem.

We study near-Lagrange collinear configurations in the three-dimensional three-body problem, with arbitrary gravitating masses. A general method, previously developed for Coulombian systems, which provides a unique formalism for treating few-body systems close to the breakup threshold, has been employed to study the motion of three bodies both for bounded and unbounded configurations. The dependence of the triple-escape function on the small total energy E has been evaluated, as well as rovibronic configurations for bounded motion. An approximate characteristic constant is found for symmetrical systems, /, where and are the vertical libration mode and rotational mode angular frequencies, respectively, and is the threshold exponent. For equal-mass systems this constant acquires the value 1.05288.  相似文献

There exist several widely used methods that give a qualitative estimation of the accuracy of the results in the numerical solution of theN-body problem. The reverse and closure tests are examined here critically. The author has developed a method for the estimation of global errors propagated in the numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations that has proven to be rather efficient in numerous cases (see P. E. Zadunaisky [17]). Applications of the method to several cases of theN-body problem are presently made and the advantages and limitations of the method are shown in a set of examples.  相似文献
