We present near-infrared observations of NGC 1068 obtained with the SHARP camera at the ESO 3.5 m telescope, and with SHARP II attached to the COME-ON+ adaptive optics system at the ESO 3.6 m telescope. From the SHARP observations we obtain a K band image of the stellar bar with 0.″4 resolution, and an upper limit to the size of the nuclear K band source of 0.″05 (3.5 pc). The adaptive optics observations are used to determine the position of the infrared nucleus with respect to the visible continuum. The centroid of the 5000 to 9000 Å continuum is displaced 0.″23 ± 0.″10 to the east and 0.″41 ± 0.″10 to the north of the K bank peak.  相似文献

We present relative astrometric measurements of visual binaries, made in 2009 with the speckle camera PISCO at the 102 cm Zeiss telescope of Brera Astronomical Observatory, in Merate. Our observing list contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. We obtained 345 new measurements of 259 objects, with angular separations in the range 0.″18–4.″6, and an average accuracy of 0.″011. The mean error on the position angles is 0.°6. Most of the position angles were determined without the usual 180° ambiguity with the application of triple‐correlation techniques and/or by inspection of the long integration files. We have found a possible new close component for ADS 2377, which would be a new quadruple star system. We also present new revised orbits for ADS 8035, 9982, 11484, and MLR 198, partly derived from those observations, and infer estimated values for the masses of those systems that are compatible with the spectral types (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. A combined spectroscopic-interferometric orbit is computed for the primary component of the visual binary star HR 7272=ADS 12101. The orbital period is 3.55 years; semimajor axis 0.″074. Radial velocities of both components were determined by correlation techniques; their semi-amplitudes are 6.6 and 8.4 km s?1. Because those amplitudes are so modest, the correlation dips are never well resolved, and the mass ratio and orbital parallax remain poorly determined. Adopting normal masses for the components, we obtain the dynamical parallax; the Hipparcos parallax for this star seems to have a large error, probably because the orbital motion was not taken into account. The visual component B belongs to this system and has a constant radial velocity.  相似文献

The paper deals with the method based on treating the axial meridian circle and a long-focus light mark in the prime vertical as a single virtual instrument that has properties of meridian circle. A horizontal axis, a sighting line, and a micrometer cross-wire of the instrument are created by optical means. The key function here is performed by the light mark that ensures a reference direction used for formation of instrumental principal planes and directions. Stability of instrumental azimuth, inclination, and collimation is expected to be about ±0.″01. Besides, an accuracy of observations is not affected by any temperature and weight deformations of telescope mechanics. Owing to the last circumstance, the design is cheap and the telescope aperture may be increased significantly, to about 1m. An estimate of accuracy of observations depends on the adopted model of image motion, and for sites with excellent seeing and bright stars is ±0.″03 to ±0.″05 (rms).  相似文献

An all‐spherical catadioptic telescope with the angular field of view of several tens of degrees in diameter and spherical focal surface is proposed for the monitoring of large sky areas. We provide a few examples of such a system with the apertures up to 800 mm and the field of view 30° and 40° in diameter. The curvature of the focal surface is repaid by high performance of the telescope. In particular, the diameter of a circle that includes 80% of energy in the polychromatic image of a star is in the range 1.″4–1.″9 across the field of 30° size and 2.″2–2.″9 for the field of 40° size. Positional and photometric CCD observations of the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 fragments were carried out at the Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. Up to 15 named fragments were detected and their equatorial coordinates and magnitudes are reported. CCD frames were processed using DAOPHOT II. The internal precision of reference star positions down to 18m is 0.″7 and the mean error of photometry does not exceed ±0.3 mag.  相似文献

An approximate orbit of the wide visual binary star ADS 9173 A(Bb) with a period of ~6000 yr has been determined for the first time by the method of apparent motion parameters. The orbit was computed using a short (1982–2004) arc of photographic observations obtained with the 26-inch Pulkovo Observatory refractor and the Hipparcos parallax. Agreement of the new orbit with the observations from the WDS catalog beginning in 1832 serves as a check. The errors in the orbital elements are large, but the orientation elements of the orbital plane (i and Ω) were estimated reliably. Component B has an invisible spectroscopic companion with a period of 4.9 yr. An astrometric orbit of Bb consistent with radial velocity measurements was determined from the residuals to the relative orbital motion of A(Bb). The orbital planes are nearly coplanar. If the mass of component B is taken in accordance with the mass—luminosity relation, 1.5 M , and the parallax is 0.″021, then the mass of the secondary component is no less than 0.5M . Component A may also be a long-period binary system.  相似文献

We present the results of our spectroscopic studies of the nebula NGC 6857 located in a region of current star formation. Data on the surface brightness distribution in the central region of the nebula (~60″ × 60″) in the Hα, Hβ, [OIII], 5007 Å, [N II], 6548, 6583 Å, [S II], 6717, 6731 Å, and He I, 6678 Å lines have been obtained with an angular resolution of ~4.″5 × 4.″5. The zones of maximum surface brightness and the region of maximum gas ionization ratio are located 12″ south of the central star, which may suggest the existence of a second gas ionization source.  相似文献

We describe the scheme and design features of the new IFU unit (Integral Field Unit) meant to perform integral-field spectroscopy as a part of SCORPIO-2 focal reducer, which is mounted in the prime focus of the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophyscial Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The design of the unit is based on the principle of the formation of array spectra using a lens raster combined with optical fibers. The unit uses a rectangular raster consisting of 22×22 square 2-mm diameter lenses. The image of the object is transferred by an optical system with a 23× magnification from the focal plane of the telescope to the plane of the lens raster. The image scale is —0.″75/lens and the field of view of the instrument has the size of 16.″5 × 16.—52. The raster also contains two extra 2 × 7 lens arrays to acquire the night-sky spectra whose images are offset by ±3′from the center. Optical fibers are used to transform micropupil images into two pseudoslits located at the IFU collimator entrance. When operating in the IFU mode a set of volume phase holographic gratings (VPHG) provides a spectral range of 4600–7300 Å and a resolution λ/δλ of 1040 to 2800. The quantum efficiency of SCORPIO-2 field spectroscopy is 6–13% depending on the grating employed.We describe the technique of data acquisition and reduction using IFU unit and report the results of test observations of the Seyfert galaxyMrk 78 performed on the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences.  相似文献

During past years high angular (<1″) resolution imaging has provided useful information about the propagation of “real” jets. Recently, in addition, the spectrograph Hubble's Space Telescope Imaging spectrograph (STIS) on board the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has finally allowed us to test the magneto-centrifugal paradigm for the jet launching. I present results from HST/STIS spectra at 0.″1 resolution of small-scale jets from T Tauri stars in their initial 140 AU (1″). The jet morphology, kinematics and excitation in different velocity intervals are derived, from which we calculate mass and momentum fluxes. Even more interestingly, we find indications for rotation around the symmetry axis in the peripheral regions of the flow. The investigated component of the wind appears to originate in the disk at a distance of 0.5-2 AU from the star, and it extracts at least 60% of the inner disk angular momentum. These results confirm for the first time the validity of the magneto-centrifugal approach for the jet launching, and constitute a benchmark to test models and simulations. In the near future, near-infrared (NIR) interferometry with AMBER/VLTI and with the LBTI will permit to observe the jet engine down to 0.1 AU from the source, where the acceleration of the jet takes place.  相似文献

In separate projects, the Hubble Space Telescope has been used to assess the nature of 3 unusual objects: Chiron, Pholus and P/Shoemaker-Levy 9. This paper will compare these objects and discuss how the unique capabilities of the HST may be used to address the issue of cometary activity in each. Chiron, which has exhibited obvious cometary characteristics for several years, might have a bound dust coma that is unresolvable from the ground. In an attempt to directly observe this bound coma, we have obtained a series of images of Chiron with the HST Planetary Camera. Inner coma structure out to 0.″2 has been detected. From these observations we infer a low bulk nucleus density for Chiron. Both HST and ground-based images of 5145 Pholus have been obtained to search for evidence of activity. The ground-based data give the most sensitive limits; however, it is shown that the WFPC-2 on HST can give limits 2–3 orders of magnitude more sensitive than conventional ground-based limits. Finally, as part of a collaborative effort, we have been obtaining HST observations of SL9 in order to determine the fragment sizes and to assess their nature (i.e., cometary vs. asteroid). Both ground-based observations from the UH 2.2m telescope on Mauna Kea and HST observations show that the near-nucleus dust is redder than the sun. While FOS spectra did not detect OH emission, the WFPC-2 HST data show that the inner coma remained very circular from July 1993 up until 2 weeks prior to impact, implying continued production of dust.  相似文献

The mean diameter D = 147 ± 3 km of (106) Dione is derived from visual observations in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands of the occultation of AGK3 + 25°0989 on 1983 January 19. Photoelectric magnitudes are: B(1, 2°.4) = 8m.51 ± 0m.06 and B – V = 0m.65 ± 0m.07. The visual albedo is pv = .064. Constraints on the axis of rotation are derived from the observed elliptical contour.  相似文献

Gliese 29 is a 7 to 8 Gyr old, southern Population I turnoff star with a large proper motion of 1″/yr. Using recent direct imaging observations with the 0.8 m Infrared Imaging System (IRIS) of the Universitätssternwarte Bochum near Cerro Armazones in Chile, we demonstrate that the faint source 2MASS J00402651–5927168 at a projected angular separation ρ = 6.″35 is a common‐proper‐motion companion to Gl 29. Provided this source is not part of a further subsystem, the IRIS J ‐ and Ks‐band photometry either implies a spectral type of about L2, based on its absolute magnitude, or an approximate mass MB ≃ 0.077 M, suggesting that it may even be a brown dwarf. We present our broadband UBVRI observations of the nucleus of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 from 1989 until 2000 at three astronomical observatories: the Crimean Station of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute, the Special Astrophysical Observatory in the Caucasus, and the Maidanak Observatory of the Ulugbek Astronomical Institute in Uzbekistan. All data have been reduced to a single system and are given for an A=27.″5 aperture. Regular R and I observations show that the pattern of optical variability is the same in all bands; the relative variability amplitude decreases from U to V, but it is even slightly larger in R than in V. The variability amplitude of the component fluctuating on time scales of several months is proportional to the UBV flux from the component varying on times scales of several years. The correlation between the slow and rapid components significantly weakens in the red, and no correlation has been found between the flux from the slow component and the amplitude of the rapid component in R. The color characteristics correspond to the recombination radiation from an optically thick plasma beyond the Balmer limit.  相似文献

The separations between the components of nearby visual binaries are investigated. For Main-Sequence stars in the spectral range F0-M7 the distribution of the separations is independent from the spectral type of the primary component. A decrease of the limiting upper separation from the early to late-type systems found by Abt is probably due to selective constraints.  相似文献

We study the hypothetical conditions for interstellar clouds dense enough to produce glaciations on the Earth. A simple differential formula (adequate to give lower limits to dust absorption) is used to relate mean temperatures and visual albedos today and during the glacial eras. For this, the geological and oceanographical records of the Pleistocene are used. The temperature decays are associated to an absorption of the solar light in visual magnitudes m v. As the effective albedo, integrated in all wavelengths are lower than the corresponding visual value, the adoption of a visual scale leads to an underestimation of the actual amount of dust. A minimum dust absorption m v= 0.02 mag, necessary to start a glacial era is then obtained. This should mean interstellar clouds with dust densities of 4100 mag. pc -1 and sizes of 0.3 pc or more, taking into account the time span of the glacial eras and the mean velocity of the Sun with respect to the LSR. Such clouds were never observed and are uncompatible with what is known from the interstellar medium: the glaciation clouds should be clouds with densities 50–100 times above the tolerable value for gravitational stability; on the other hand, the necessary number of clouds per cubic parsec should produce the collapse of the galactic disc as a whole. From a comparative analysis of the temperatures of the other planets it seems to be that the actual thermal temperatures in their surfaces depend less than one expects from the visual albedos. From this it is raised the suspicion that the cause of the ice ages was the Sun itself.  相似文献

A study of the Kappa Cygnid and other minor streams of the August epoch is presented based on a computer search in a sample of 3518 photographic meteoroid orbits. Four different meteoroid streams with radiants in Cygnus, Draco and Lyra, were found. Three of these: the Kappa Cygnids, the Alpha Lyrids and the Zeta Draconids are identified with meteor showers reported by nineteenth century visual observers. The fourth stream, the August Lyrids, consists of six meteors with radiants in Lyra centered on = 277°.6, = 46°.2. No previous visual reports of this stream have been found. It is interesting to note that all four meteoroid streams are coincident in time; their orbits are all of short period and they all have very nearly the same orientation of semi-major axis.  相似文献

HD 88021/2 (ADS 7662) is a very close visual binary. The accepted visual orbit, which is of very high eccentricity and graded “reliable”, led to the expectation of a periastron passage in 1981, when there should have been a large difference in radial velocity between the components. No such event took place, and there is little indication that it is likely to occur in the near future. A new interpretation of the visual orbital data leads to an orbit of a different character from those hitherto proposed. A decision between the competing orbits should be possible within a very few years. Meanwhile, the method of spectral subtraction developed in Paper 1 has enabled us to separate the spectra of the two components and to show that their spectral types are K0 III and A2m.  相似文献
