Wavefront charts in anisotropic gradient media are a useful tool in ray geometric constructions, particular in shear-wave exploration. They can be constructed by: (i) a family of wavefronts that contains a vertical plane as member - it is convenient to choose constant time increments; (ii) tracing one ray that makes everywhere the angle with the normal to the wavefront that is required by the anisotropy of the medium; (iii) scaling this ray to obtain a set of rays with different ray parameters; (iv) shifting these rays (with wavefront elements attached) so that they pass through a common source point; (v) interpolating the wavefronts between the elements. The construction is particularly simple in linear-gradient media, since here all members of the family of wavefronts are planes. Since the ray makes everywhere the angle prescribed by the anisotropy with the normal of the (plane) wavefronts, the ray has the shape of the slowness curve rotated by ?π/2. For isotropic media the slowness curve is a circle, and thus rays are circular arcs. The circles themselves intersect in the source point and in a second point above the surface of the earth. This provides a simple proof that wavefronts emanating from a point source in an isotropic linear-gradient medium are spheres: inversion of the set of circular rays with the source as centre maps the pencil of circular rays into a pencil of straight lines passing through a point. A pencil of concentric spheres around this point is perpendicular to the pencil of straight lines. On inverting back the pencil of spheres is mapped into another pencil of spheres that is perpendicular to the circular rays.  相似文献

本文利用2006年6月至2014年6月COSMIC掩星观测的水汽廓线, 分析了对流层/下平流层(TLS)比湿信号对ENSO的响应.在数据处理中, 将COSMIC掩星水汽廓线计算得到的全球比湿数据内插为1000~30 hPa区间水平分辨率为5°×5°的三维格网, 在各等压面上求取各格网点去除年/月际信号后的比湿月异常值.然后在对比湿月异常时间序列低通滤波的基础上, 进行经验正交分解(EOF)得到比湿主成分, 并对该主成分信号进行二项式平滑; 接下来将平滑后的主成分信号与反映ENSO活动的ONI指数进行相关处理, 得到各等压面主成分信号相对于ONI指数的相关系数及对应的时间延迟.论文分析了包括Niño-3.4的5个代表性区域的TLS比湿异常主成分信号, 结果表明:在各区域, 采用本文先低通滤波再EOF分解的处理方法获得的TLS比湿异常主成分信号与ONI指数均有很强相关性, 对流层相关系数绝对值达0.8以上, 低平流层高于0.7, 在300~200 hPa的上对流层达到峰值; 各等压面上比湿异常主成分信号相对于ONI指数的时间延迟不尽相同, 在对流层中比湿异常主成分信号普遍滞后于ONI指数1~6个月; 在各区域, 比湿异常主成分与ONI指数相关系数绝对值达到最大的等压面都接近250 hPa, 最大相关系数绝对值均达到0.9以上.进一步对全球250 hPa等压面比湿异常主成分与ONI指数相关性的分析表明:两者强相关的区域主要集中在热带; 在这些强相关区域, 比湿异常主成分相对于ONI主要表现为滞后, 且相关系数越大, 相应的时间延迟越短.

Dispersion, attenuation and wavefronts in a class of linear viscoelastic media proposed by Strick and Mainardi (Geophys J R Astr Soc 69:415–429, 1982) and a related class of models due to Lomnitz, Jeffreys and Strick are studied by a new method due to the author. Unlike the previously studied explicit models of relaxation modulus or creep compliance, these two classes support propagation of discontinuities. Due to an extension made by Strick, either of these two classes of models comprise both viscoelastic solids and fluids. We also discuss the Andrade viscoelastic media. The Andrade media do not support discontinuity waves and exhibit the pedestal effect.  相似文献

Diel fluctuations can comprise a significant portion of summer discharge in small to medium catchments. The source of these signals and the manner in which they are propagated to stream gauging sites is poorly understood. In this work, we analysed stream discharge from 15 subcatchments in Dry Creek, Idaho, Reynolds Creek, Idaho, and HJ Andrews, Oregon. We identified diel signals in summer low flow, determined the lag between diel signals and evapotranspiration demand and identified seasonal trends in the evolution of the lag at each site. The lag between vegetation water use and streamflow response increases throughout summer at each subcatchment, with the rate of increase as a function of catchment stream length and other catchment characteristics such as geology, vegetation and stream geomorphology. These findings support the hypothesis that variations in stream velocity are the key control on the seasonal evolution of the observed lags. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Synthetic seismograms can be very useful in aiding understanding of wave propagation through models of real media, verification of geologic models derived from interpretation of field seismic data, and understanding the nature and complexity of wave phenomena. If meaningful results are to be obtained from synthetic seismograms, the method of their computation must, in general, include three-dimensional geometrical spreading of wavefronts associated with highly concentrated (i.e., point) sources. The method should also adequately represent the seismic response of solid-layered media by including enough primaries, multiples, and converted phases to accurately approximate the total wavefield. In addition to these features, it is also very helpful, although not always essential, if the method of seismogram computation provides for explicit identification of wave type and ray path for each arrival. Various seismograms, computed via asymptotic ray theory and an automatic ray generation scheme, are presented for a highly simplified North Sea velocity structure. This is done to illustrate the importance of the above features and to demonstrate the inadequacy of the plane-wave synthesis method of seismogram computation for point sources and the limitations of acoustic models of solid-layered media.  相似文献

The search for electromagnetic effects of earthquakes has discovered pulsed signals preceding or following the time of an event. The advance or lag amounts to 0–5 min. The signals are observed as single or paired pulses in the frequency range 0–5 Hz. Dynamic spectra of the signals are presented and their characteristics are discussed. A hypothesis on the seismoelectromagnetic origin of the signals is suggested and verified.  相似文献

The only restriction on the values of the elasticity parameters is the stability condition. Within this condition, we examine the Christoffel equation for nondetached qP slowness surfaces in transversely isotropic media. If the qP slowness surface is detached, each root of the solubility condition corresponds to a distinct smooth wavefront. If the qP slowness surface is nondetached, the roots are elliptical but do not correspond to distinct wavefronts; also, the qP and qSV slowness surfaces are not smooth.  相似文献

The first-order perturbation theory is used for fast 3D computation of quasi-compressional (qP)-wave traveltimes in arbitrarily anisotropic media. For efficiency we implement the perturbation approach using a finite-difference (FD) eikonal solver. Traveltimes in the unperturbed reference medium are computed with an FD eikonal solver, while perturbed traveltimes are obtained by adding a traveltime correction to the traveltimes of the reference medium. The traveltime correction must be computed along the raypath in the reference medium. Since the raypath is not determined in FD eikonal solvers, we approximate rays by linear segments corresponding to the direction of the phase normal of plane wavefronts in each cell. An isotropic medium as a reference medium works well for weak anisotropy. Using a medium with ellipsoidal anisotropy as a background medium in the perturbation approach allows us to consider stronger anisotropy without losing computational speed. The traveltime computation in media with ellipsoidal anisotropy using an FD eikonal solver is fast and accurate. The relative error is below 0.5% for the models investigated in this study. Numerical examples show that the reference model with ellipsoidal anisotropy allows us to compute the traveltime for models with strong anisotropy with an improved accuracy compared with the isotropic reference medium.  相似文献

Coral samples collected at the outlet and the inlet of the Third Nuclear Power Plant were measured for the δ18O and δ13C, indicating the surrounding seawater temperature and physiological/biochemical reactions during coral skeletal growth. The results show that with higher seawater temperature in summer, the values of δ18O are lower but those for δ13C are higher; however, the δ18O extremes lag six weeks behind the δ13C extremes because the highest water temperature lags the maximum number of sunshine hours. Records of the extreme high temperature observed in the northern South China Sea between Oct. 1987 and Sep. 1988, and the extraordinary low temperature from Oct. 1992 to Feb. 1993 are also preserved in the coralline isotope signals. However, when the water temperature becomes too high the coral growth seems to stop.  相似文献

For multivalued traveltime computation on dense grids, we propose a wavefront‐orientated ray‐tracing (WRT) technique. At the source, we start with a few rays which are propagated stepwise through a smooth two‐dimensional (2D) velocity model. The ray field is examined at wavefronts and a new ray might be inserted between two adjacent rays if one of the following criteria is satisfied: (1) the distance between the two rays is larger than a predefined threshold; (2) the difference in wavefront curvature between the rays is larger than a predefined threshold; (3) the adjacent rays intersect. The last two criteria may lead to oversampling by rays in caustic regions. To avoid this oversampling, we do not insert a ray if the distance between adjacent rays is smaller than a predefined threshold. We insert the new ray by tracing it from the source. This approach leads to an improved accuracy compared with the insertion of a new ray by interpolation, which is the method usually applied in wavefront construction. The traveltimes computed along the rays are used for the estimation of traveltimes on a rectangular grid. This estimation is carried out within a region bounded by adjacent wavefronts and rays. As for the insertion criterion, we consider the wavefront curvature and extrapolate the traveltimes, up to the second order, from the intersection points between rays and wavefronts to a gridpoint. The extrapolated values are weighted with respect to the distances to wavefronts and rays. Because dynamic ray tracing is not applied, we approximate the wavefront curvature at a given point using the slowness vector at this point and an adjacent point on the same wavefront. The efficiency of the WRT technique is strongly dependent on the input parameters which control the wavefront and ray densities. On the basis of traveltimes computed in a smoothed Marmousi model, we analyse these dependences and suggest some rules for a correct choice of input parameters. With suitable input parameters, the WRT technique allows an accurate traveltime computation using a small number of rays and wavefronts.  相似文献

In the free state, Rayleigh waves are assumed to travel in the form of planar wavefronts. Under such an assumption, the propagation behaviour of the modes of Rayleigh waves in layered half‐spaces is only frequency dependent. The frequency behaviour, which is often termed as dispersion, is determined by the shear wave velocity profile of layered soils within the depth related to wavelength (or frequency). According to this characteristic, the shear wave velocity profile can be back‐analysed from the dispersion. The technique is widely used in the surface wave testing. However, the wavefronts of Rayleigh waves activated by the surface sources are non‐planar. The geometric discrepancy could result in Rayleigh waves manifesting distance‐dependent behaviour, which is referred to as spatial behaviour in this paper. Conventional analysis ignoring this spatial behaviour could introduce unexpected errors. In order to take the effects of sources on the propagation behaviour into account, a new mathematical model is established for Rayleigh waves in layered elastic media under vertical disc‐like surface sources using the thin‐layer method. The spatial behaviour of the activated modes and the apparent phase velocity, which is the propagation velocity of Rayleigh waves superposed by the multiple modes, are then analysed. Aspects of the spatial behaviour investigated in this paper include the equilibrium path, the particle orbit, and the geometric attenuation of the activated Rayleigh waves. The results presented in this paper can provide some guidelines for developing new inverse mathematical models and algorithms.  相似文献

In tidal environments, the response of suspended sediment concentration (SSC) to the current velocity is not instantaneous, the SSC lagging behind the velocity (phase lag), and the amplitude of SSC variation decreasing with height above the bed (amplitude attenuation). In order to quantitatively describe this phenomenon, a one-dimensional vertical advection–diffusion equation of SSC is derived analytically for uniform unsteady tidal flow by defining a concentration boundary condition using a constant vertical eddy diffusivity and sediment settling velocity. The solution, in simple and straightforward terms, shows that the vertical phase lag increases linearly with the height above the bed, while the amplitude of the SSC variation decreases exponentially with the height. The relationship between the SSC and the normalized current velocity can be represented by an ellipse or a line, depending on the phase lag. The lag of sediment movement or “diffusion/settling lag” is the mechanism generating the phase lag effect. Field observations used for validation show that the theoretically predicted and the observed curves of the vertical SSC phase lag and amplitude attenuation show reasonable agreement. The procedure proposed in this paper substantially simplifies the modeling of suspended matter transport in tidal flows.  相似文献

The ray-tracing algorithm presented in this paper is based on formulae derived for the common reflecting element (CRE) stacking method. A 2D, smooth, laterally-varying media is assumed where offset rays and traveltimes are evaluated from normal-incidence (central) rays. The method uses a second-order asymmetrical approximation for rays and an additional oblique spherical approximation of the central wavefronts for calculating offset traveltimes. In order to solve the two-point ray-tracing problem for the common midpoint (CMP) configuration of source-receiver pairs located symmetrically around the CMP stations, the central rays are perturbed to satisfy the above-mentioned asymmetrical distribution. Although the accuracy of the calculations is limited for far offsets, it is still good for distances of the order of the reflecting depths. Since only a few normal-incidence rays are traced through the medium, the method is very fast and is found to be most attractive for iterative inversions in macromodel estimation.  相似文献

The physical background of singular memory models and in particular the Cole–Cole model is discussed. Three models of anisotropic linear viscoelasticity with frequency-dependent stiffness coefficients are considered. The models are constructed in such a way that anisotropic properties are separated from anelastic effects. Two of these models represent finite-speed wave propagation with singularities at the wavefronts (the exponential relaxation model) and without singularities at the wavefronts (the Cole–Cole model), while a third model called the fractional model is related to the constant Q with unbounded propagation speed. The Cole–Cole and fractional models belong to the class of singular memory models studied earlier because of their applications in polymer rheology, poroelasticity, poroacoustics, seismic wave propagation and other applications. Well-posedness of initial boundary value problems with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary conditions is established for the three models. About 100 breakups of different types and intensities are studied on the basis of Lovozero Observatory data. Magnetic pulsations in different frequency ranges, VLF emissions, and auroral activity are analyzed using the TV data. It is found that magnetic pulsations in all frequency ranges lag behind the moment of breakup by 0.5–2.0 min, and bursts of low-intensity broadband VLF emission hiss are observed 3–10 min before breakup. Hiss leading breakup corresponds to feeble auroras located northward of a pre-breakup arc.  相似文献
