A total of 33 elements (Ag, Al, Au, Bi, Br, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs. Eu, Fe, Ge, Hf, Ir, Lu, Na, Ni, Os, Pd, Rb, Re, Sb, Se, Se, Si, Sm, Tb, Te, Tl, U, Yb and Zn) were analyzed by radiochemical and instrumental neutron activation in four eucrites: Juvinas (brecciated), Ibitira (vesicular, unbrecciated) and Moore County and Serra de Magé (cumulate, un brecciated). When arranged in order of volatility. Cl—normalized abundance patterns allow nebular and planetary effects to be distinguished. The stepped lithophile pattern reveals the dominance of nebular processes; in Ibitira, refractory elements (Hf, Lu, Tb, Ce, Sm, Yb, U, Eu) are (13.1 ± 0.7) × Cl chondrites; volatile elements (Rb. Cs, Br, Bi) are (6.0 + 1.5) × 10?2 Cl. The depletion of Tl seems inherent to the eucrite parent body and is mirrored in the chalcophile elements by the marked deficit of Te relative to Se; apparently volatiles were accreted as a fractionated C3-like component. Consistent but subtle Cl-normalized abundance differences between eucrites (Serra de Magé < Moore County < Juvinas < Ibitira) result from crystal/liquid differentiation; Ibitira approximates the composition of an undifferentiated eucrite magma. The siderophile pattern retains little sign of nebular processes, but reflects planetary metal-silicate partition. The bulk composition of the eucrite parent body closely resembles that of H-chondrites, except for two features: moderately volatile elements (e.g. Na, K. Rb) are very much lower, apparently due to the accretion of more chondrule-like material; the metallic Fe-Ni content is only ~13%, even though total iron is very similar.  相似文献

Lunar meteorite Northwest Africa 773 (herein referred to as NWA773) is a breccia composed predominantly of mafic volcanic components, including a prominent igneous clast lithology. The clast lithology is an olivine-gabbro cumulate, which, on the basis of mineral and bulk compositions, is a hypabyssal igneous rock related compositionally to volcanic components in the meteorite. The olivine-gabbro lithology exhibits cumulus textures and, in our largest section of it, includes some 48% olivine (Fo64 to Fo70, average Fo67), 27% pigeonite (En60Fs24Wo16 to En67Fs27Wo6), 11% augite (En50Fs17Wo33 to En47Fs13Wo40), 2% orthopyroxene (En70Fs26Wo4), 11% plagioclase (An80 to An94), and trace barian K-feldspar, ilmenite, Cr-spinel, RE-merrillite, troilite, and Fe-Ni metal. The Mg/Fe ratios of the mafic silicates indicate equilibration of Fe and Mg; however, the silicates retain compositional variations in minor and trace elements that are consistent with intercumulus crystallization. Accessory mineralogy reflects crystallization of late-stage residual melt. Both lithologies (breccia and olivine cumulate) of the meteorite have very-low-Ti (VLT) major-element compositions, but with an unusual trace-element signature compared to most lunar VLT volcanic compositions, i.e., relative enrichment in light REE and large-ion-lithophile elements, and greater depletion in Eu than almost all other known lunar volcanic rocks. The calculated composition of the melt that was in equilibrium with pyroxene and plagioclase of the cumulate lithology exhibits a KREEP-like REE pattern, but at lower concentrations. Melt of a composition calculated to have been in equilibrium with the cumulate assemblage, plus excess olivine, yields a major-element composition that is similar to known green volcanic glasses. One volcanic glass type from Apollo 14 in particular, green glass B, type 1, has a very low Ti concentration and REE characteristics, including extremely low Eu concentration, that make it a candidate parent melt for the olivine-gabbro cumulate. We infer an origin for the parent melt of NWA773 volcanic components by assimilation of a trace-element-rich partial or residual melt by a magnesian, VLT magma deep in the lunar crust or in the mantle prior to transportation to the near-surface, accumulation of olivine and pyroxene in a shallow chamber, eruption onto a volcanic surface, and incorporation of components into local, predominantly volcanic regolith, prior to impact mixing of the volcanic terrain and related hypabyssal setting, and ejection from the surface of the Moon. Volcanic components such as these probably occur in the Oceanus Procellarum region near the site of origin of the green volcanic glasses found in the Apollo 14 regolith.  相似文献

Twenty-nine unbrecciated eucrites have been thoroughly characterized in terms of the petrologic factors that affect their spectra, such as mineral chemistry, modal adundances, grain sizes, and textures. We have conducted a combined petrologic and spectral study designed to provide insight into the petrogenesis of the basaltic crust of Vesta and the variety of rock-types that exist within it, as well as aid in the petrologic interpretation of spectra to be collected by the Dawn orbiting spacecraft. This paper details the petrology part of the study. Unbrecciated eucrite samples were selected to avoid the complications of lithologic mixing in the accompanying spectral study. A wide variety of textural types are seen within the basaltic eucrites, encompassing quenched, coarse-grained, and granoblastic samples. Zoned pyroxenes in eucrites and those that preserve a history of initial rapid cooling are rare. Nearly all eucrite samples have been thermally metamorphosed and would commonly be classified as equilibrated; however, this term reflects only the quadrilateral (Mg, Fe, and Ca) compositions of pyroxenes, and considerable variations are seen within the minor elements (Al, Ti, and Cr) in pyroxenes as well as plagioclase compositions. Determination of both pyroxene and plagioclase compositions together with pyroxene geothermometry provides a better estimate for the relative degree of thermal metamorphism a eucrite has experienced. The petrologic differences observed here might allow different eucrites to be distinguished spectrally. This is especially true for the varying pyroxene compositions as the spectra of eucrites are dominated by absorption features attributed to pyroxene.  相似文献

A few eucrites have anomalous oxygen isotopic compositions. To help understand their origin and identify additional samples, we have analyzed the oxygen isotopic compositions of 18 eucrites and four diogenites. Except for five eucrites, these meteorites have Δ17O values that lie within 2σ of their mean value viz., −0.242 ± 0.016‰, consistent with igneous isotopic homogenization of Vesta. The five exceptional eucrites—NWA 1240, Pasamonte (both clast and matrix samples), PCA 91007, A-881394, and Ibitira—have Δ17O values that lie, respectively, 4σ, 5σ, 5σ, 15σ, and 21σ away from this mean value. NWA 1240 has a δ18O value that is 5σ below the mean eucrite value. Four of the five outliers are unbrecciated and unshocked basaltic eucrites, like NWA 011, the first eucrite found to have an anomalous oxygen isotopic composition. The fifth outlier, Pasamonte, is composed almost entirely of unequilibrated basaltic clasts. Published chemical data for the six eucrites with anomalous oxygen isotopic compositions (including NWA 011) exclude contamination by chondritic projectiles as a source of the oxygen anomalies. Only NWA 011 has an anomalous Fe/Mn ratio, but several anomalous eucrites have exceptional Na, Ti, or Cr concentrations. We infer that the six anomalous eucrites are probably derived from five distinct Vesta-like parent bodies (Pasamonte and PCA 91007 could come from one body). These anomalous eucrites, like the isotopically normal, unbrecciated eucrites with 4.48 Gyr Ar-Ar ages, are probably deficient in brecciation and shock effects because they were sequestered in small asteroids (10 km diameter) during the Late Heavy Bombardment following ejection from Vesta-like bodies. The preservation of Vesta’s crust and the lack of deeply buried samples from the hypothesized Vesta-like bodies are consistent with the removal of these bodies from the asteroid belt by gravitational perturbations from planets and protoplanets, rather than by collisional grinding.  相似文献

We have undertaken petrologic and SHRIMP U-Th-Pb isotopic studies on zircons from basaltic eucrites (Yamato [Y]-75011, Y-792510, Asuka [A]-881388, A-881467 and Padvarninkai) with different thermal and shock histories. Eucritic zircons are associated with ilmenite in most cases and have subhedral shapes in unmetamorphosed and metamorphosed eucrites. Some zircons in highly metamorphosed eucrites with granulitic texture occur alone in pyroxene, and typically have rounded to subrounded shapes due to recrystallization. Superchondritic Zr/Hf ratios of eucritic zircons indicate that they crystallized from incompatible element-rich melts after crystallization of ilmenite. Concentrations of uranium and thorium in zircons in the unmetamorphosed eucrite Y-75011 are higher than those in metamorphosed eucrites. The U-Pb systems of eucritic zircons are almost concordant but some zircon grains show reverse discordance. Radiogenic lead-loss up to 48% from zircons is observed in the shock-melted eucrite Padvarninkai. The 207Pb-206Pb ages of zircon in Y-75011 (4550 ± 9 Ma, n = 5) are nearly identical, within analytical uncertainty, to the ages of zircons from the metamorphosed eucrite Y-792510 (4545 ± 15 Ma, n = 13), the highly metamorphosed eucrites A-881388 (4555 ± 54 Ma, n = 5) and A-881467 (4558 ± 13 Ma, n = 8), and the shock-melted eucrite Padvarninkai (4555 ± 13 Ma, n = 18). The averaged 207Pb-206Pb age of zircon from five eucrites analyzed in this study is 4554 ± 7 Ma (95% confidence limits, n = 49), indistinguishable from the averaged U-Pb age (4552 ± 9 Ma) of the same samples. Because of the high closure temperature of lead in zircon (Tclosure = ∼1050°C with a cooling rate of 0.2°C/yr), the 207Pb-206Pb ages of eucritic zircon do not represent metamorphic ages but crystallization ages of extrusive lavas. This fact strongly suggests that volcanism of the eucrite parent body occurred at a very early stage of the Solar System history, 7-20 Ma after CAI formation (4567.2 ± 0.6 Ma), thus basaltic eucrites crystallized from parental magmas within a short interval following the differentiation of their parent body. The U-Pb ages of eucritic zircons are older than the U-Pb, Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr ages of some basaltic eucrites, which is consistent with differences in closure temperatures of each isotopic system, and suggests that thermal and shock metamorphism affected the isotopic systems of pyroxene, plagioclase and phosphates.  相似文献

Eucrites are extraterrestrial plagioclase-pigeonite basalts. Experimental studies suggest that they were produced by partial melting of an olivine (Fo65)-pigeonite (Wo5En65)-plagioclase (An94)-spinel-metal source region. Quantitative modeling of the evolution of REE abundances in the eucrites indicates that the main group of eucrites (e.g. Juvinas) may be produced by approximately 10% equilibrium partial melting of a source region with initial REE abundances which were chondritic relative and absolute. Other eucrites appear to represent greater (e.g. Sioux County—15%) or smaller (e.g. Stannern—4%) degrees of melting. Moore County and Serra de Magé appear to be cumulates of pyroxene and plagioclase produced by fractional crystallization of a Juvinas-like melt. Nuevo Laredo may represent a residual liquid after such fractional crystallization. Our calculations are consistent with the conclusion that the eucrites were derived from a single type of source region. The close correspondence of the age of the eucrites (? 4.6 AE) to the age of the solar system appears to preclude the possibility of extensive chemical differentiation of the eucrite parent body prior to the event which produced the eucritic melts. Thus our calculations have yielded not only the mode of the source region but, assuming homogeneous accretion, the mode and hence the bulk composition of the eucrite parent body as well. We are unable to estimate quantitatively the ratio of metal to olivine in the parent body. If no metal is present, the bulk composition (in oxide wt%) is Na2O—0.04, MgO—29.7, Al2O3—1.8, SiO2—39.0, CaO—1.2, FeO—28.3. If, in contrast, the parent body contained 30% metal, the bulk composition of the silicate portion of the eucrite parent body is Na2O—0.06, MgO—28.0, Al2O3—2.6, SiO2—41.3, CaO—1.9, FeO—26.3. Relative abundances of the meteorites suggest that the eucrite parent body is still intact. The solar system object most closely resembling the eucrites is asteroid 4 Vesta. Because Vesta is unique among the asteroids, we have license to conclude that it is the source of the eucrites and its bulk composition is close to the analyses given above.  相似文献

ALHA 76005 is a basaltic achondrite containing few. if any, orthopyroxenes. Its bulk major and trace element composition is like that of a non-cumulate eucrite, and unlike that of a howardite. It contains a variety of igneous clasts which differ in their textures, pyroxene/plagioclase ratios and pyroxene and plagioclase compositions. One clast, No. 4, was found to have the REE pattern of a cumulate eucrite and an oxygen isotopic composition different from that of the bulk meteorite. Both the chemical and oxygen isotopic composition of clast No. 4 suggest that it was derived from a source different from its host. These observations lead to the conclusion that ALHA 76005 is a polymict eucrite.  相似文献

Zircons from the Simmern H5 chondrite and Pomozdino eucrite have been analyzed for their Hf-W isotope systematics. Zircons have high intrinsic Hf contents and coupled with low W, make them ideal Hf-W chronometers. However, measurements of (182Hf/180Hf)0 are far from straightforward with low signals of radiogenic 182W and difficulties in calibrating Hf/W ratios. Zircons were analyzed from the Simmern chondrite, and the Pomozdino eucrite. The Simmern zircon has an ultrarefractory-enriched trace element pattern, a feature commonly associated with refractory inclusions. Analyses of Simmern zircon show variable Hf/W that is likely due to surface contamination. Simmern chondrite zircon yields a (182Hf/180Hf)0 of 7.2 (± 4.5) × 10−5. Pomozdino eucrite zircon analyses show very high Hf/W values indicating (182Hf/180Hf)0 of 1.7 (± 1.1) × 10−5. The Simmern value is in good agreement with the initial value of the solar system indicated from Hf-W systematics of chondrites. The Pomozdino value is lower than expected if eucrites formed within several million years of refractory inclusions as suggested from Al-Mg systematics of eucrites.  相似文献

We report on the petrology of a new eucrite belonging to the Stannern trend and discuss the origin of this trend. The eucrite Northwest Africa 4523 (NWA 4523) is an equilibrated eucrite consisting of dark clasts embedded in a fine-grained crystallized matrix. Two types of clasts have been observed: medium-grained ophitic/subophitic clasts, and very fine-grained clasts. Despite textural differences, the clasts display the same mineralogy, in particular the same kind of pyroxenes with pigeonitic cores containing sparse exsolution lamellae, and augitic rims, zoned plagioclases and the occurrence of K-feldspar. The major and trace element abundances of a large medium-grained clast are very similar to Stannern or Bouvante. The Stannern trend eucrites are characterized by high incompatible trace element abundances. Their trace element patterns normalized to a representative Main Group eucrite, exhibit significant Eu, Sr and Be negative anomalies. In this paper, we show that contamination of Main Group eucritic magmas by melts derived by partial melting of the asteroid’s crust can successfully explain both the high incompatible trace elements concentrations and the distinctive Eu, Sr, Be anomalies shown by the Stannern trend eucrites. This model is in agreement with the view that Stannern and some Main Group-Nuevo Laredo trend eucrites have been contemporaneously erupted, and with the probable assumption that Stannern trend eucrites formed rather late in the history of the 4-Vesta’s crust.  相似文献

We performed instrumental neutron activation analysis on a large suite of antarctic and nonantarctic eucrites, including unbrecciated, brecciated, and polymict eucrites and cumulate and noncumulate eucrites. We evaluate the use of Hf and Ta, two highly incompatible elements, as sensitive indicators of partial melting or fractional crystallization processes. Comparison with rare earth element (REE) data from nonantarctic and antarctic eucrites shows that Hf and Ta are unaffected by the terrestrial alteration that has modified the REE contents and patterns of some antarctic eucrites. The major host phases for Hf and Ta—zircon, baddeleyite, ilmenite, and titanite—are much less susceptible to terrestrial alteration than the phosphate hosts of REEs. The host phases for Hf and Ta are minor or trace phases, so sample heterogeneity is a serious concern for obtaining representative compositions. The trace lithophile and siderophile element contents of noncumulate eucrites do not allow for a single, simple model for the petrogenesis of the howardite-eucrite-diogenite suite. Fractional crystallization models cannot reproduce the compositional relationship between eucrites of the main group-Nuevo Laredo trend and those of the Stannern trend. Equilibrium crystallization models cannot explain the trace element diversity observed among diogenites. Partial melting models cannot explain the W variations among eucrites, unless source regions had different metal contents. We suggest that slight variations in oxygen fugacity of eucrite source regions during partial melting can explain the W variations without requiring different metal contents. This hypothesis may fail to account for eucrite Co contents, however.  相似文献

Rare earth element (REE) abundances in eucrites were precisely determined on Juvinas, Pasamonte, Cachari, Stannem and Antarctic eucrites Y-74450,63,D+G; Y-75015,20,E+F; Y-75011,73; Y-790007,61,F; Y-75011,84,D-1 and Y-790007,61,E-4. The last two samples are eucrite clasts from polymict eucrites. The other Antarctic eucrite samples are matrix from polymict eucrites.Like the Stannern eucrite, all of the Antarctic eucrites have relatively high REE abundances. REE abundances in two clast samples are higher than those in the Stannern and matrix samples of the Antarctic eucrites. When REE abundances in the Antarctic eucrites and the Stannem eucrite are normalized by the REE abundance suite of the Juvinas or Pasamonte eucrites, highly linear REE patterns are obtained. For the Juvinas- or Pasamonte-normalized REE patterns of the Antarctic and Stannern eucrites, the inclination of the linear REE patterns increases with increasing REE abundances. These observations suggest that the eucrites with larger REE abundances such as the Stannern and Antarctic eucrites were produced as residual liquid in a fractional crystallization process from the main group of eucrites (e.g., the Juvinas eucrite). On the other hand, the Moore County cumulate eucrite is considered to be a solid phase formed in this process.  相似文献

We report an electron probe investigation of the eucrite Moore County. Moore County consists predominantly of four pyroxene phases and plagioclase, with minor tridymite, ilmenite, chromite, troilite, iron metal and possibly apatite. Temperatures have been computed for Moore County and other eucrites using three independent techniques for coexisting pairs of pyroxenes. These computed temperatures are all subsolidus and approach those calculated for slowly cooled terrestrial igneous and metamorphic rocks. These temperatures conflict with the conclusions of earlier workers that Moore County was catastrophically removed from its cumulate environment at high temperatures. The eucrites cooled to temperatures substantially below the solidus on their parent body. Our results are consistent with the conclusion that Moore County resided for an extended period of time on the eucrite parent body, perhaps from the time of its crystallization from a basaltic melt (~-4.5AE) until a few tens of millions of years ago. This extended residence time is consistent with the conclusion that the eucrite parent body is still intact, but raises dynamical objections to the tentative identification of the eucrite parent body as asteroid 4 Vesta. An alternative scenario involves ejection from the eucrite parent body, at times significantly older than those indicated by cosmic ray exposure ages, of meteoroids of sufficient size that their interiors were shielded from cosmic rays. These meteoroids were removed by low-probability mechanisms into Earth-crossing orbits where they were disrupted and ultimately sampled by the Earth. This proposal appears to remove the dynamical objections to the tentative identification of the eucrite parent body as Vesta.  相似文献

Shock-induced Ti-rich melt pockets in a basaltic eucrite Northwest Africa (NWA) 8003 were studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Unique mineral assemblages consisting of clinopyroxene, ilmenite, vestaite, corundum, and kyanite are observed. Among them, vestaite and corundum in NWA 8003 are first reported to occur in eucrite meteorites. Petrographic and chemical evidences indicate that the Ti-rich melt pockets have formed by in-situ melting of ilmenite, plagioclase, pyroxene, and possibly minor silica and apatite nearby. The temperature rise and melting were caused by the high shock impedance contrast at interfaces between ilmenite and other phases with a distinctly lower density. Crystallization pressure, temperature and cooling time of the Ti-rich melt pockets in NWA 8003 are constrained to be ˜0.9–˜10 GPa, ˜1300–˜1730 °C, and < 1 ms (5–50 μm in size), respectively.  相似文献

The eucritic meteorites are basaltic rocks that originate from the upper part of the crust of some small bodies as exemplified possibly by asteroid 4-Vesta. A few eucrites appear to have been modified by different degrees of a late stage alteration process that caused significant variations in mineralogy. Three distinct alteration stages are identified: (1) Fe-enrichment along the cracks that cross cut the pyroxene crystals (“Fe-metasomatism”); secondary olivine and minute amounts of troilite are found only occasionally in cracks at this stage; (2) deposits of Fe-rich olivine (Fa64-86) and minor amounts of troilite are frequent inside the cracks; sporadic secondary Ca-rich plagioclase (An97-98) is associated with the fayalitic olivine; (3) at this stage, the Fe-enrichment of the pyroxene is accompanied by a marked Al-depletion; moreover, secondary Ca-rich plagioclase is more frequent and partly fills some cracks or rims of the primary plagioclase crystals. The composition of the secondary phases on one hand, the lack of incompatible trace element enrichment in the metasomatized pyroxenes on the other hand, rule out a silicate melt as the metasomatic agent. Although no hydrous phase has been yet identified in the studied samples, aqueous fluids are plausible candidates for explaining the deposits of ferroan olivine and anorthitic plagioclase inside the fractures of the studied unequilibrated eucrites.

Analysis of the Eu and Sr “anomalies” of eucrites and lunar rocks allows constraints to be placed on the bulk compositions of the eucrite parent body (EPB) and the Moon. The elements Al, REE, and Sr, all are essentially incompatible with the major minerals of these small, low-?(O2) bodies, except for plagioclase, into which Al, Sr, and Eu tend to concentrate. Therefore, the hypothesis that Al, REE, and Sr in the EPB and the Moon are all in proportions close to those in the bulk solar system (i.e., chondrites) leads to certain predictions about the concentrations of these elements in samples affected by plagioclase fractionation. The predictions are almost ideally fulfilled by eucrites and lunar samples. For the EPB, the ratios REEAl, SrAl, and SrREE are constrained to be probably within 10%, almost certainly within 20%, of the chondritic ratios. For the more complicated Moon, the constraints are less precise: REEAl is very probably within 25% of chondritic; SrAl and SrREE are probably within 35% of chondritic. These findings are proof that there is a strong similarity between the bulk compositions of the planets and the compositions of chondritic meteorites. The eucrites' Sm-Eu-Sr systematics are also valuable sources of constraints on the distribution coefficients for Eu and Sr into plagioclase, at low ?(O2). From the slope of data for noncumulate eucrites on a Eu-Sm plot, D(Eu,pl/liq) can be inferred to be 1.1?0.10.2. From the slope on a Sr-Sm plot, D(Sr,pl/liq)) can be inferred to be 1.5 ± 0.3. In the case of D(Eu), this is in excellent agreement with experimental data. In the case of D(Sr), the empirical result is probably more appropriate for eucritic systems than most experimental data, which, due to compositional effects, scatter widely.  相似文献

The Tekkeda? volcanic complex, which extends as a ridge in the direction of NW–SE, is one of the poorly known volcanic centers and is exposed to the southwest of Kayseri located within the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province (CAVP) of Turkey. The mineralogical composition of Tekkeda? volcanics reveals an assemblage of plagioclase (labradorite, bytownite)+pyroxene (augite, diopside and enstatite)+Fe–Ti oxide (magnetite, rutile)±olivine (forsterite) mineral composition having hypocrystaline porphryric, hypohyaline porphryric, gleomeroporphryric and seriate textures under the microscope. Confocal Raman Spectroscopy (CRS) has been used to define the mineral types. Tekkeda? volcanics have medium K2O contents and are calc-alkaline in character. Geochemically, Tekkeda? volcanics show a narrow range of major element compositions and are classified as augite andesite/basaltic andesite. On the variation diagrams based on MgO versus major and trace elements, they show good positive and negative correlations, indicating fractional crystallization of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and Fe–Ti oxide. Tekkeda? volcanics display enrichment in large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) relative to high field-strength elements (HFSEs) in chondrite, MORB, E-MORB and lower crust normalized multi-element diagrams. In all normalized multi-element diagrams, the trace element patterns of all samples are similar in shape and exhibit depletions in Ba, Nb, P and Ti as characteristics of subduction-related magmas. Rare earth element (REE) patterns for Tekkeda? volcanics show REE enrichment with respect to chondrite values. They exhibit marked enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREEs) ((La/Sm)N=4.13–4.62) relative to heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) ((Sm/Lu)N=1.34–1.92). Furthermore, all samples have negative Eu anomalies ((Eu/Eu*)N=0.77–0.90), indicating the significant role of plagioclase in the fractional crystallization. Elemental ratios such as K/P (15.46–21.69), La/Nb (2.01–4.26), Rb/Nb (8.74–10.59), Ba/Nb (38.54–75.77), Nb/Ta (1.16–2.14), Ce/P (2.13–4.32) and Th/U (1.77–3.97) propose that the magma was subjected to conceivable crustal contamination during the evolution of these Tekkeda? volcanics. This statement is supported by the AFC modeling based on the trace elements. As a result, despite the lack of isotopic data, the petrographic and geochemical results suggest a significant role of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and Fe–Ti oxide fractionation during the evolution of the Volcanic Arc Basalts (VAB) nature of the Tekkeda? volcanics. Furthermore, these results reveal that the volcanics of Tekkeda? were produced from a parental magma derived from an enriched source of mixed subduction and/or crustal products.  相似文献

Bulk analyses of 157 lithic fragments of igneous origin and analyses of their constituent minerals (plagioclase, pyroxene, olivine, Mg-Al spinel, chromite, ilmenite, armalcolite, baddeleyite, zirkelite, K-feldspar, interstitial glass high in SiO2 and K2O) have been used to characterize the lunar highland rock suites at the Luna 20 site. The predominant suite is composed of ANT (anorthositic-noritic-troctolitic) rocks, as found at previous Apollo and Luna sites. This suite consists of an early cumulate member, spinel troctolite, and later cumulate rocks which are gradational from anorthosite to noritic and troctolitic anorthosite to anorthositic norite and troctolite; anorthositic norite is the most abundant rock type and its composition is close to the average composition for the highland rocks at this site. Spinel troctolite is a distinctive member of this suite and is characterized by the presence of Mg-Al spinel, magnesian olivine (average, Fo83), and plagioclase. High-alumina basalt with low alkali content is another important rock type and melt of this composition may be parental to the cumulate ANT suite. Alkalic high-alumina basalt (KREEP) was not found in our sample, but may be genetically related to the ANT suite in that it may have formed by partial melting of rocks similar to those of the ANT suite. Fractional crystallization of low alkali, high-alumina basalt probably cannot produce alkalic high-alumina basalt because the enrichment in KREEP component is many times greater than the simultaneous change in major element components. Formation of alkalic high-alumina basalt by mechanical mixing of ANT rocks with very KREEP-rich components is not likely because the high-alumina basalt suite falls on a cotectic in the anorthiteolivine-silica system. Mare basalts may also be genetically related in that they may have been derived by remelting of rocks formed from residual liquids of fractional crystallization of parental low-alkali, high-alumina basalt, plus mafic cumulate crystals; the resultant melt would have a negative Eu anomaly and high FeMg and pyroxeneplagioclase ratios.  相似文献

The isotopic composition of noble gases was investigated in the Dhofar 007 meteorite. Petrographic and mineralogical observations suggested that it is a brecciated cumulate eucrite with high contents of siderophile elements. The concentrations of noble gases in Dhofar 007 are identical to those of other eucrites. Its cosmic ray exposure age was estimated as 11.8 ± 0.8 Ma, which coincides with a maximum on the histogram of comic ray exposure ages of eucrite meteorites. It can be supposed that, similar to other eucrites, Dhofar 007 was ejected from the surface of their parent body (presumably, asteroid Vesta) about 12.0 Ma ago. The crystallization age of the Dhofar 007 eucrite was estimated from the ratio of plutonogenic Xe to Nd as 4476 ± 22 Ma. The potassium-argon age is much younger, 3.7–4.1 Ga, which indicates partial loss of radiogenic argon during the history of the meteorite, most likely related to impact metamorphic events.  相似文献
