Resonant absorption of slow MHD waves is studied numerically by using the SGH method and is applied to a model of a coronal arcade in the presence of equilibrium plasma flows. The arcade is approximated by a 1D horizontal magnetic slab that is non-uniform along the vertical direction and which is surrounded by two homogeneous media. While propagating from the photosphere upwards into the corona, the magneto-acoustic waves can be resonantly absorbed in the inhomogeneous region of the arcade. Computational results show that the resonant absorption of the impinging waves strongly depends on the equilibrium model and on the characteristics of the driving wave. The results also indicate that the presence of an equilibrium plasma flow along the magnetic field of the arcade reduces the resonant absorption for the flow speed parameters considered.  相似文献

We analyse the behaviour of linear magnetohydrodynamic perturbations of a coronal arcade modelled by a half-cylinder with an azimuthal magnetic field and non-uniform radial profiles of the plasma pressure, temperature, and the field. Attention is paid to the perturbations with short longitudinal (in the direction along the arcade) wavelengths. The radial structure of the perturbations, either oscillatory or evanescent, is prescribed by the radial profiles of the equilibrium quantities. Conditions for the corrugation instability of the arcade are determined. It is established that the instability growth rate increases with decreases in the longitudinal wavelength and the radial wave number. In the unstable mode, the radial perturbations of the magnetic field are stronger than the longitudinal perturbations, creating an almost circularly corrugated rippling of the arcade in the longitudinal direction. For coronal conditions, the growth time of the instability is shorter than one minute, decreasing with an increase in the temperature. Implications of the developed theory for the dynamics of coronal active regions are discussed.  相似文献

High temporal and spatial resolution solar X-ray pictures of a flare at 1827 UT on 5 September 1973 were taken with the S-056 Aerospace Corporation/Marshall Space Flight Center telescope on the Apollo Telescope Mount. Photographs taken at 9 s intervals allow detailed information to be obtained about the site of the energy release, as well as about the evolution of the flare itself. Observations show that the flare occured in an entire arcade of loops rather than in any single loop. Sequential brightening of different X-ray features indicates that some excitation moved perpendicular to the magnetic field of the arcade at velocities of 180–280 km/s. The most intense X-ray features were located in places where the magnetic field composing the arcade had a small radius of curvature with horizontal field gradients higher than the surrounding region and where the axis of the arcade changed direction. We feel that the arcade geometry strongly influenced the propagation of the triggering disturbance, as well as the storage and site of the subsequent deposition of energy. A magnetosonic wave is suggested as the propagating mechanism triggering instabilities that may have existed in the preflare structure. This event demonstrates that all energy emitted during a flare need not be released immediately nor in the same location, thereby eliminating some problems encountered in many flare theories. Conditions for energy release are discussed.  相似文献

A coronal magnetic arcade can be thought of as consisting of an assembly of coronal loops. By solving equations of thermal equilibrium along each loop and assuming a base temperature of 2 × 104 K, the thermal structure of the arcade can be found. By assuming a form for the plasma pressure in the arcade, the possible thermal structures can be shown to depend on three parameters. Arcades can contain hot loops with summits hotter than 400 000 K, cool loops at temperatures less than 80 000 K along their lengths, hot-cool loops with cool summits and cool footpoints but hotter intermediate portions, and warm loops, cooler than 80 000 K along most of their lengths but with summits as hot as 400 000 K. For certain arcades, there exist regions where more than one kind of loop is possible. If the parameters describing the arcade are varied, it is possible for non-equilibrium to occur when a type of solution ceases to exist. For example, hot or warm loops can cease to exist so that only cool solutions are possible when the arcade size or pressure is decreased, while warm or cool loops may give way to hot-cool loops when the heating is reduced or the pressure is increased.  相似文献

We investigate the two-dimensional boundary value problem of the linear wave excitation in the solar corona by a pair of periodic perturbers localized at the photosphere. The physical properties of the corona allow us to consider a magnetic configuration such as a potential arcade which is in a magneto-hydrostatic equilibrium with the surrounding plasma. The model excludes the A1fvén mode and since the slow mode is absent in a potential arcade, the excited waves are then the fast magneto-acoustic modes. The characteristic magnetic field scale length is twice the scale height of the coronal plasma, assumed isothermal and the induced fluid motions are in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field, in the cross-sectional plane of the arcade.A particular example of two localized perturbers in a photospheric active region is given, pointing out the effects produced in the perturbed fields by the variation of the different parameters involved. Such example shows that, while a modification of the linear size or the horizontal wave number of the perturbers does not affect significantly the propagating disturbances, the variation of the perturbers' frequency produces important effects. Such effects can be summarized by saying that low-frequency perturbers are able to disturb the whole coronal magnetic configuration above the active region while high-frequency perturbers only disturb the coronal region just above them, producing a channeling feature. Moreover, for high frequencies the perturbations grow withz all the way from the photosphere while for very low frequencies evanescent waves are dominant, although thanks to the influence of the medium their amplitude starts to grow from somez on.  相似文献

TRACE observations from 15 April 2001 of transverse oscillations in coronal loops of a post-flare loop arcade are investigated. They are considered to be standing fast kink oscillations. Oscillation signatures such as displacement amplitude, period, phase and damping time are deduced from 9 loops as a function of distance along the loop length. Multiple oscillation modes are found with different amplitude profile along the loop length, suggesting the presence of a second harmonic. The damping times are consistent with the hypothesis of phase mixing and resonant absorption, although there is a clear bias towards longer damping times compared with previous studies. The coronal magnetic field strength and coronal shear viscosity in the loop arcade are derived.  相似文献

A cylindrically-symmetric magnetic arcade with its axis on the photosphere is perturbed by means of an alteration in the pressure along the base. The perturbation is examined with a view to finding equilibrium configurations close to the original equilibrium. It is found that equilibria can only be found when the integral of the excess pressure along the base is zero. In other cases no equilibria can be found and the arcade is likely either to collapse or, in the case of a coronal mass ejection, to erupt. For an initial arcade whose field increases linearly with radial distance from the axis, the neighbouring equilibria have been found.  相似文献

A large arcade associated with a long-duration soft X-ray emission was observed on May 19, 1992 by the Yohkoh soft X-ray telescope. This large arcade was formed along the inversion line and a filament eruption was observed as part of this event. Also associated with this event were solar energetic particles and an interplanetary shock observed near Earth. This event supports the idea that coronal mass ejections are large-scale eruptions along an inversion line, or a heliospheric current sheet. However, this event implies that present models on eruptions are not sufficient.  相似文献

We model the propagation of a coronal shock wave, using nonlinear geometrical acoustics. The method is based on the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) approach and takes into account the main properties of nonlinear waves: i) dependence of the wave front velocity on the wave amplitude, ii) nonlinear dissipation of the wave energy, and iii) progressive increase in the duration of solitary shock waves. We address the method in detail and present results of the modeling of the propagation of shock-associated extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves as well as Moreton waves along the solar surface in the simplest solar corona model. The calculations reveal deceleration and lengthening of the waves. In contrast, waves considered in the linear approximation keep their length unchanged and slightly accelerate.  相似文献

Propagation of torsional waves along isothermal and initially-untwisted magnetic-flux tubes embedded in the solar atmosphere is studied analytically. Conditions for wave propagation along thin and wide magnetic-flux tubes are determined, and it is shown that the propagation along thin tubes is cutoff free; however, for wide tubes the propagation is affected by a cutoff frequency. A method to determine the cutoff frequency is presented and applied to a specific model of solar magnetic flux tubes. An interesting result is that the cutoff frequency is a local quantity in the model and that its value at a given height determines the frequency that torsional tube waves must have to propagate at this height.  相似文献

Non-uniform propagation of weak discontinuities headed by wavefronts of arbitrary shape along bi-characteristics of a hyperbolic system through thermally-conducting and dissociating gases are studied. An explicit criterion for the growth and decay of weak waves along bi-characteristic curves in the characteristic manifold of the governing differential equations is given. The two fundamental theorems on the global behaviour of the time-dependent wave amplitude of a weak wave has been concluded.  相似文献

A coronal magnetic arcade can be thought of as consisting of an assembly of coronal loops. By solving equations of isobaric thermal equilibrium along each loop and assuming a base temperature of 2 × 104 K, the thermal structure of the arcade can be found. The possible thermal equilibria can be shown to depend on two parameters L * p * and h */p * representing the ratios of cooling (radiation) to condu and heating to cooling, respectively. Arcades can contain four types of loops: hot loops with summits hotter than 400000 K; cool loops at temperatures less than 80000 K along their lengths; hot-cool loops with cool summits and cool footpoints but hotter intermediate portions; and warm loops, cooler than 80000 K along most of their lengths but with summits as hot as 400000 K. Two possibilities for coronal heating are considered, namely a heating that is independent of magnetic field and a heating that is proportional to the square of the local magnetic field. When the arcade is sheared the thermal structure of the arcade may change, leading in some cases to non-equilibrium or in other cases to the formation of a cool core.  相似文献

Magnetohydrodynamics waves and instabilities in rotating, self-gravitating, anisotropic and collision-less plasma were investigated. The general dispersion relation was obtained using standard mode analysis by constructing the linearized set of equations. The wave mode solutions and stability properties of the dispersion relations are discussed in the propagations transverse and parallel to the magnetic field. These special cases are discussed considering the axis of rotation to be in transverse and along the magnetic field. In the case of propagation transverse to the magnetic field with axis of rotation parallel to the magnetic field, we derived the dispersion relation modified by rotation and self-gravitation. In the case of propagation parallel to the magnetic field with axis of rotation perpendicular to the magnetic field, we obtained two separate modes affected by rotation and self-gravitation. This indicates that the Slow mode and fire hose instability are not affected by rotation. Numerical analysis was performed for oblique propagation to show the effect of rotation and self-gravitation. It is found that rotation has an effect of reducing the value of the phase speeds on the fast and Alfven wave modes, but self-gravitation affect only on the Slow modes, thereby reducing the phase speed compare to the ideal magneto hydrodynamic (MHD) case.  相似文献

We analyze radio observations, magnetograms and extrapolated field line maps, Hα filtergrams, and X-ray observations of two flare events (6 February 1992 in AR 7042 and 25 October 1994 in AR 7792) and study properties, evolution and energy release signatures of sigmoidal loop systems. During both events, the loop configuration seen in soft X-ray (SXR) images changes from a preflare sigmoidal shape to a relaxed post-flare loop system. The underlying magnetic field system consists of a quadrupolar configuration formed by a sheared arcade core and a remote field concentration. We demonstrate two possibilities: a sigmoidal SXR pattern can be due to a single continuous flux tube (the 1992 event). Alternatively, it can be due to a set of independent loops appearing like a sigmoid (the 1994 event). In both cases, the preflare and post-flare loops can be well reproduced by a linear force-free field and potential field, respectively, computed using preflare magnetograms. We find that thermal and non-thermal flare energy release indicators of both events become remarkably similar after applying spatial and temporal scale transformations. Using the spatial scaling between both events we estimated that the non-thermal energy release in the second event liberated about 1.7 times more energy per unit volume. A two-and-a-half times faster evolution indicates that the rate of the energy release per unit volume is more than four times higher in this event. A coronal type II burst reveals ignition and propagation of a coronal shock wave. In contrast, the first event, which was larger and released about a 10 times more energy during the non-thermal phase, was associated with a CME, but no type II burst was recorded. During both events, in addition to the two-ribbon flare process an interaction was observed between the flaring arcade and an emerging magnetic flux region of opposite polarity next to the dominant leading sunspot. The arcade flare seems to stimulate the reconnection process in an `emerging flux-type' configuration, which significantly contributes to the energy release. This regime is characterized by the quasiperiodic injection of electron beams into the surrounding extended field line systems. The repeated beam injections excite pulsating broadband radio emission in the decimetric-metric wavelength range. Each radio pulse is due to a new electron beam injection. The pulsation period (seconds) reflects the spatial scale of the emerging flux-type field configuration. Since broadband decimetric-metric radio pulsations are a frequent radio flare phenomenon, we speculate that opposite-polarity small-scale flux intrusions located in the vicinity of strong field regions may be an essential component of the energy release process in dynamic flares.  相似文献

Properties of a guided MHD-wave propagating in a magnetic field tube with the plasma density differing from the ambient density are studied. Like the Alvén wave this wave propagates along the magnetic field and is connected with the field-aligned currents flowing at the periphery of the oscillating tube. The guided wave is accompanied by the magnetic field compression, nevertheless the wave moves without attenuation. The guided wave velocity is between the Alvén velocities inside and outside the oscillating tube. In a tube of elliptical cross-section the propagation velocity depends on the polarization of the wave.  相似文献

The properties of acoustic-gravity waves in the polar regions of the Earth’s thermosphere have been studied. It has been shown that the change in AGW amplitudes occurs against the background of large-scale rotational movements of the medium in the polar thermosphere. The amplitudes of waves increase with AGW propagation against the motion of the medium and decrease when AGW propagate along rotation. An analytical expression for the gain coefficient of AGW perturbations is obtained; the wave’s amplification effect in the opposite wind given the characteristic parameters of the thermosphere is estimated. The results are consistent with the measurements of AGW parameters in the polar regions from the “Dynamic Explorer 2” satellite.)  相似文献

We investigated the propagation of kink waves in thin and isothermal expanding flux tubes in cylindrical geometry. By using the method of radial expansion for fluctuating variables we obtained a new kink wave equation. We show that including the radial component of the tube magnetic field leads to cutoff-free propagation of kink waves along thin flux tubes.  相似文献
