The quantitative concentrations of 21 congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls and 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were studied in bottom sediments of the Usa River, the largest Pechora’s tributary, and its tributaries located in the central part of Timan-Pechora petroleum province. In accordance with the classification of the regional and international standards, the pollution degree of bottom sediments by organic compounds of those classes was evaluated. Pollution profiles were examined and the character of the dominating source of polychlorinated biphenyls and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons for bottom sediments in the region under study was identified. The formation and accumulation of bottom sediments in the Senezh Reservoir are discussed on the basis of field observations. Data on the bottom sediment thickness, the rates of accumulation, and the concentrations of organic substances, metals, petroleum products, and organic pollutants are presented. The bottom sediments of the reservoir are demonstrated to be still no source of secondary pollution.  相似文献

The concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (HCCH, DDT, and HCB) and 34 congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls were studied in bottom sediments of the Irkutsk Reservoir, the first in the Angara Chain of Reservoirs. The degree of pollution of bottom sediments was evaluated in accordance with classifications of regional and international standards. A correlation was found to exist between the distribution of some organic compounds and organic carbon concentration.  相似文献

The paper presents data on the concentrations of persistent organic pollutants in bottom sediments of subarctic lakes on Vaygach Isl. and in the Polar Cis-Urals in the Northern European Russia. Dioxin pollution is estimated at the background level, and the recorded levels of hexachlorobenzene fall within the concentration range identified in the bottom sediments of small lakes in the southwestern Arkhangelsk region. The specific character of the congener profile of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans in bottom sediments is demonstrated, suggesting a relationship between the pollution that forms under the effect of atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants from low latitudes in the past and present and the application of dioxin-containing organochlorine chemicals in timber industry.  相似文献

The results of bioassay and physicochemical analysis of bottom sediments from large water bodies in Northwestern Russia are presented. The water bodies under consideration include Lake Onega, Vygozerskoe Reservoir, and freshwater part of the Neva Estuary (the Eastern Gulf of Finland), which are locally subject to eutrophication and toxic pollution. The potential toxicity of bottom sediments, evaluated by the survival rate of two crustacean species (Gmelinoides fasciatus and Ceriodaphnia affinis) in 7-day tests, varied from high to low values, characterizing 5 quality classes: high, good, moderate, poor, and heavy, with appropriate degrees of toxic pollution from no to very high pollution. Bad zones were identified in the Kondopoga and Petrozavodsk bays of Onega Lake, the northern and southern parts of the Vygozerskoe Reservoir, and the southern part of the Neva Bay near the dam. Bottom sediments were found to have high quality in the open central areas of Lake Onega and the Vygozerskoe Reservoir and in the western part of Neva Estuary.  相似文献

对东钱湖底泥做了全面调查,测定了底泥粒度组成、有机质、TN、TP及重金属含量,分析了底泥沉积特性及污染物分布特征,分别采用潜在生态危害指数(RI)法和相对背景值法对重金属污染风险和有机污染及营养盐污染进行了评价.研究结果表明:东钱湖底泥组成以细颗粒为主,重金属含量除镉污染达到中等生态危害程度外,其余均处于较低水平,湖区底泥中有机污染和氮污染问题非常突出.为有效治理东钱湖内源污染,有必要开展包括生态疏浚在内的内源污染治理措施.研究为进一步开展东钱湖水环境治理提供了理论依据.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze two short cores collected in the Tinto estuary (SW Spain), and describe the palaeoenvironmental evolution of this area during the last two millennia, along with the influence of historical mining activities and recent industrial pollution on sediments and microfauna (foraminifera and ostracoda). Although there were no significant changes in the distribution of microorganisms, a first pollution period (0-150 AD) was recorded in high sediment pollution by Cu in the shallow palaeochannels of the middle estuary. During this period and the following 1700 years, tolerant pioneer species of both foraminifera and ostracoda were found predominantly in the inner, protected areas of the estuary, while the bottom sediments were subjected to high hydrodynamic gradients, and consequently showed lower density and diversity of organisms. In the last 150 years, acid mine drainage processes, introduction of a new mining period, and the polluted inputs derived from two industrial processes resulted in increased heavy metal contamination of the bottom sediments, and corresponding extirpation of ostracodes and restriction of foraminifers to the inner zones of the estuary.  相似文献

The distribution of some microelements in the surface and stratified layers of bottom sediments in Lake Seliger is studied. Data on the bottom deposit pollution by heavy metals is used to determine the anthropogenic load on the lake ecosystem. Cd, Zn, and Pb are shown to rapidly accumulate in thick (>1 m) bottom deposits that have formed during the period of lake existence. The concentrations of Cd and Zn are shown to correlate with the organic matter in thick bottom deposits.  相似文献

The distribution of oil hydrocarbons in bottom sediments of Onega Lake was examined. Their qualitative and quantitative composition was examined by methods of IR-spectroscopy and chromatography-mass spectrometry. The background concentrations of oil hydrocarbons in bottom sediments are evaluated and the polluted area is determined. The major regularities in oil hydrocarbon transformations under natural conditions and anthropogenic impact are identified. The quantitative development of the bacterial groups that take part in the transformation of complex organic substances and oil product derivatives in the case of emergency pollution of Petrozavodsk Bay water area by oil products is demonstrated.  相似文献

The dynamics and trends in the chemical pollution of water and the bottom sediment of Kaliningrad Bay in the Vistula Lagoon are examined. Mean annual and one-moment estimates of the conditions and level of this type of pollution of water resources in the bay are given, and distribution schemes of suspended matter and pollutants over the area are shown. Schemes for calculating the components of the nearshore wave energy fluxes and water currents are also given. Environmental–dynamic zoning of the area allowed the establishing of stably localized, hydrodynamically stagnant problematic zones with high levels of chemical pollution of the water and bottom sediments (which are zones of higher environmental risk).  相似文献

The influence of raw domestic sewage on density and distribution of meiofauna in the sea bottom sediments in the Northern Adriatic Sea, in the area of Rovinj (Yugoslavia), was investigated, comparing meiofaunal density at the stations which are under direct influence of sewage and the stations which are far from the source of pollution. It is concluded that raw domestic sewage does not have a negative influence on the density and distribution of meiofauna, but Parker's index of pollution indicates that meiofauna at these stations were under stress.  相似文献

Lake Umbozero (the second largest in the area and the deepest in Murmansk province) was studied with the aim to establish the biogeochemical features of the distribution of chalcophile elements (Hg, Cd, Pb, As) in water, bottom sediments, and whitefish organs and tissues. Lake Umbozero is subject to the effect of emissions and effluents of mining-and-metallurgical plants in Murmansk province, as well as airborne anthropogenic pollution of global character. Surface and near-bed peaks were recorded in the distribution of Pb and Cd in water mass. Those peaks can be due to phytoplankton development in surface layers and the precipitation of dead organisms and mechanical suspension into bed layers. The mean Pb and Cd concentrations in Umbozero water mass exceed the mean for lake water in taiga zone. Water body pollution manifests itself in an increase in concentrations of elements, such as heavy metals, in the surface layers of bottom sediments. The largest contamination factors were recorded for Cd and Pb. Lake pollution by highly toxic chalcophile elements also caused their accumulation in whitefish organs and tissues: the biological accumulation coefficient is >1 for Cd in kidneys (5.8) and for Hg in kidneys, liver, and muscles (3.6, 3.3, and 2.2, respectively).  相似文献

A great body of source data on the concentrations of oil products, organochlorine pesticides, and heavy metals in the Azov Sea bottom sediments in 1996–2005 is analyzed. An integral quantitative characteristicóan index of pollution of bottom sedimentsóis proposed and used for elaborating a five-level classification of sea floor regions. Anthropogenic mercury pollution was studied in Kastela Bay (Croatia), 10 years after chloralkaline plant (PVC) stopped production. The concentration of total mercury determined in sediments which are composed mainly of calcite and quartz, are in the range 14,280-30,400 ng/g. The values are higher than reported in the literature for Elbe and Seine estuaries and also above 25,000 ng/g used for criterion in remediation project in Minamata Bay. The concentration of methylmercury 6.05-36.74 ng/g are typical for slightly to highly contaminated estuarine sediments. The low ratio of methylmercury to total mercury found in sediments of Kastela Bay is in the range 0.04-0.18%. It can be explained that in this region predominate conditions which do not promote in-situ methylation. Sediments were found to be highly anoxic. Concentrations of total mercury in unfiltered surface waters are in the range 69-145 ng/l and in unfiltered bottom waters in the range 230-1,418 ngl(-1). High concentrations found in bottom waters suggest that either resuspension or partial dissolution of sediments takes place. An experiment performed on filtered and unfiltered waters showed that about 85% of total mercury in surface water and almost 100% in bottom water was retained on 45 microm filters. To demonstrate contrasts, two pristine estuaries from norths and south Europe were studied. Silicious sediments of Ore estuary (Sweden) and calcareous sediments of Krka estuary (Croatia) have total mercury concentrations close to accepted background level. The ratio of methylmercury to total mercury is < or = 1% in all samples with one exception. The highest observed ratio (2.70%) was in the surface sediment from E2 station in Krka estuary measured in March 2000. This location is suitable for studying methylmercury formation in pristine environment.  相似文献

Elemental mercury is associated with industrial wastes discharged through the main effluent pipe of the Chlorine-Alkali plant at El-Max area west of Alexandria. The minimal mercury value of 0.1 ppm dry weight is assumed to be the background level for uncontaminated sediments in the area. Mercury level ranged from 8.02 to 15.5 ppm in the beach sands from the polluted area beyond the plant, and from 0.14 to 1.4 ppm in the bottom sediments off Alexandria.The Chlorine-Alkali plant is obviously the major source of mercury pollution. The contribution of land drainage, agricultural and domestic wastes is insignificant.  相似文献

The effect of anthropogenic pollution on the structure of benthic animal communities in the Barnaulka R. (Ob tributary) has been studied. Statistical analysis was used to assess the effect of habitat factors on macrozoobenthos structure. The structure characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrate communities and the bioindication indices calculated from them are shown to depend on the hydrophysical and hydrochemical characteristics of water and bottom sediments.  相似文献
