The synthetic amphibole Na0.95(Li0.95Mg1.05)Mg5Si8O22(OH)2 was studied in situ at high-T, using IR OH-stretching spectroscopy and synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. At room-T the sample has P21 /m symmetry, as shown by the FTIR spectrum. It shows in the OH region two well-defined and intense absorptions at 3,748 and 3,712 cm−1, respectively, and two minor bands at 3,667 and 3,687 cm−1. The main bands are assigned to the two independent O–H groups in the primitive structure. The two minor bands evidencing the presence of small amount of vacant A-site (A0.05). With increasing T, these bands shift continuously and merge into a unique absorption at high temperature. A change as a function of increasing T is revealed by the evolution of the refined unit-cell parameters, whose trend shows a transition to C2/m at about 320–330°C. The spontaneous scalar strain, fitted with a tricritical 2–6 Landau potential, gives a T c of 325(10)°C (β parameter = 0.27). Comparison with the second-order P21 /mC2/m phase transition at 255°C for synthetic amphibole ANa0.8B(Na0.8Mg1.2)CMg5Si8O22(OH)2 indicates that the substitution of Na with Li at the B-sites strongly affects the thermodynamic character and the T c of the phase transition. The comparison of LNMSH amphiboles with cummingtonitic ones shows that the high-T thermodynamic behaviour is affected by A-site occupancy.  相似文献

We estimate, from the moisture budget the bulk aerodynamic coefficient for latent heat flux (C e) during the monsoon season over the central Arabian Sea. The average value ofC eunder active monsoon conditions was found to be 2.25 × 10−3 which is nearly 60% higher than those previously used.  相似文献

The elastic properties of coexisting natural 3T and 2M 1 phengite samples (Cima Pal, Sesia Zone; Val Savenca; Western Alps, Italy) with similar chemical compositions have been studied by room temperature–high pressure powder diffraction, using synchrotron radiation on the ID9A beam-line at ESRF (Grenoble, France). The PV curves have been modelled by the Birch–Murnaghan model; a third-order expansion fitted to the experimental data yields for 3T and 2M 1 K 0=60.4(±0.7) GPa, K′=5.79(±0.11) at V 0=703.8851 Å3, and K 0=57.3(±1.0) GPa, K′=6.97(±0.24) at V 0=938.8815 Å3, respectively. The relative stability of 3T vs. 2M 1 has been explored as a function of pressure and temperature in terms of configuration and deformation contributions to the Gibbs energy, using the elastic properties determined here and other thermodynamic parameters from earlier investigations. The results presented agree with the hypothesis of stability of the 3T polytype in the high pressure regime.  相似文献

The accepted standard state entropy of titanite (sphene) has been questioned in several recent studies, which suggested a revision from the literature value 129.3 ± 0.8 J/mol K to values in the range of 110–120 J/mol K. The heat capacity of titanite was therefore re-measured with a PPMS in the range 5 to 300 K and the standard entropy of titanite was calculated as 127.2 ± 0.2 J/mol K, much closer to the original data than the suggested revisions. Volume parameters for a modified Murgnahan equation of state: V P,T  = V 298° × [1 + a°(T − 298) − 20a°(T − 298)] × [1 – 4P/(K 298 × (1 – 1.5 × 10−4 [T − 298]) + 4P)]1/4 were fit to recent unit cell determinations at elevated pressures and temperatures, yielding the constants V 298° = 5.568 J/bar, a° = 3.1 × 10−5 K−1, and K = 1,100 kbar. The standard Gibbs free energy of formation of titanite, −2456.2 kJ/mol (∆H°f = −2598.4 kJ/mol) was calculated from the new entropy and volume data combined with data from experimental reversals on the reaction, titanite + kyanite = anorthite + rutile. This value is 4–11 kJ/mol less negative than that obtained from experimental determinations of the enthalpy of formation, and it is slightly more negative than values given in internally consistent databases. The displacement of most calculated phase equilibria involving titanite is not large except for reactions with small ∆S. Re-calculated baric estimates for several metamorphic suites yield pressure differences on the order of 2 kbar in eclogites and 10 kbar for ultra-high pressure titanite-bearing assemblages.  相似文献

A multi-anvil device was used to synthesize 24 mg of pure γ-Fe2SiO4 crystals at 8.5 GPa and 1,273 K. The low-temperature heat capacity (C p) of γ-Fe2SiO4 was measured between 5 and 303 K using the heat capacity option of a physical properties measurement system. The measured heat capacity data show a broad λ-transition at 11.8 K. The difference in the C p between fayalite and γ-Fe2SiO4 is reduced as the temperature increases in the range of 50–300 K. The gap in C p data between 300 and 350 K of γ-Fe2SiO4 is an impediment to calculation of a precise C p equation above 298 K that can be used for phase equilibrium calculations at high temperatures and high pressures. The C p and entropy of γ-Fe2SiO4 at standard temperature and pressure (S°298) are 131.1 ± 0.6 and 140.2 ± 0.4 J mol−1 K−1, respectively. The Gibbs free energy at standard pressure and temperature (Δ f,298) is calculated to be −1,369.3 ± 2.7 J mol−1 based on the new entropy data. The phase boundary for the fayalite–γ-Fe2SiO4 transition at 298 K based on current thermodynamic data is located at 2.4 ± 0.6 GPa with a slope of 25.4 bars/K, consistent with extrapolated results of previous experimental studies.  相似文献

The low-temperature isobaric heat capacities (C p) of β- and γ-Mg2SiO4 were measured at the range of 1.8–304.7 K with a thermal relaxation method using the Physical Property Measurement System. The obtained standard entropies (S°298) of β- and γ-Mg2SiO4 are 86.4 ± 0.4 and 82.7 ± 0.5 J/mol K, respectively. Enthalpies of transitions among α-, β- and γ-Mg2SiO4 were measured by high-temperature drop-solution calorimetry with gas-bubbling technique. The enthalpies of the α−β and β−γ transitions at 298 K (ΔH°298) in Mg2SiO4 are 27.2 ± 3.6 and 12.9 ± 3.3 kJ/mol, respectively. Calculated α−β and β−γ transition boundaries were generally consistent with those determined by high-pressure experiments within the errors. Combining the measured ΔH°298 and ΔS°298 with selected data of in situ X-ray diffraction experiments at high pressure, the ΔH°298 and ΔS°298 of the α−β and β−γ transitions were optimized. Calculation using the optimized data tightly constrained the α−β and β−γ transition boundaries in the P, T space. The slope of α−β transition boundary is 3.1 MPa/K at 13.4 GPa and 1,400 K, and that of β−γ boundary 5.2 MPa/K at 18.7 GPa and 1,600 K. The post-spinel transition boundary of γ-Mg2SiO4 to MgSiO3 perovskite plus MgO was also calculated, using the optimized data on γ-Mg2SiO4 and available enthalpy and entropy data on MgSiO3 perovskite and MgO. The calculated post-spinel boundary with a Clapeyron slope of −2.6 ± 0.2 MPa/K is located at pressure consistent with the 660 km discontinuity, considering the error of the thermodynamic data.  相似文献

The lattice constants of paragonite-2M1, NaAl2(AlSi3)O10(OH)2, were determined to 800 °C by the single-crystal diffraction method. Mean thermal expansion coefficients, in the range 25–600 °C, were: αa = 1.51(8) × 10−5, αb = 1.94(6) × 10−5, αc = 2.15(7) ×  10−5 °C−1, and αV = 5.9(2) × 10−5 °C−1. At T higher than 600 °C, cell parameters showed a change in expansion rate due to a dehydroxylation process. The structural refinements of natural paragonite, carried out at 25, 210, 450 and 600 °C, before dehydroxylation, showed that the larger thermal expansion along the c parameter was mainly due to interlayer thickness dilatation. In the 25–600 °C range, Si,Al tetrahedra remained quite unchanged, whereas the other polyhedra expanded linearly with expansion rate proportional to their volume. The polyhedron around the interlayer cation Na became more regular with temperature. Tetrahedral rotation angle α changed from 16.2 to 12.9°. The structure of the new phase, nominally NaAl2 (AlSi3)O11, obtained as a consequence of dehydroxylation, had a cell volume 4.2% larger than that of paragonite. It was refined at room temperature and its expansion coefficients determined in the range 25–800 °C. The most significant structural difference from paragonite was the presence of Al in fivefold coordination, according to a distorted trigonal bipyramid. Results confirm the structural effects of the dehydration mechanism of micas and dioctahedral 2:1 layer silicates. By combining thermal expansion and compressibility data, the following approximate equation of state in the PTV space was obtained for paragonite: V/V 0 = 1 + 5.9(2) × 10−5 T(°C) − 0.00153(4) P(kbar). The thermoelastic behavior of a natural clintonite-1M [with composition: Ca1.01(Mg2.29Al0.59Fe0.12)Σ3.00(Si1.20Al2.80)Σ4.00O10(OH)2] has been investigated up to 10 GPa (at room temperature) and up to 960°C (at room pressure) by means of in situ synchrotron single-crystal and powder diffraction, respectively. No evidence of phase transition has been observed within the pressure and temperature range investigated. PV data fitted with an isothermal third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state (BM-EoS) give V 0 = 457.1(2) ?3, K T0 = 76(3)GPa, and K′ = 10.6(15). The evolution of the “Eulerian finite strain” versus “normalized stress” shows a linear positive trend. The linear regression yields Fe(0) = 76(3) GPa as intercept value, and the slope of the regression line leads to a K′ value of 10.6(8). The evolution of the lattice parameters with pressure is significantly anisotropic [β(a) = 1/3K T0(a) = 0.0023(1) GPa−1; β(b) = 1/3K T0(b) = 0.0018(1) GPa−1; β(c) = 1/K T0(c) = 0.0072(3) GPa−1]. The β-angle increases in response to the applied P, with: βP = β0 + 0.033(4)P (P in GPa). The structure refinements of clintonite up to 10.1 GPa show that, under hydrostatic pressure, the structure rearranges by compressing mainly isotropically the inter-layer Ca-polyhedron. The bulk modulus of the Ca-polyhedron, described using a second-order BM-EoS, is K T0(Ca-polyhedron) = 41(2) GPa. The compression of the bond distances between calcium and the basal oxygens of the tetrahedral sheet leads, in turn, to an increase in the ditrigonal distortion of the tetrahedral ring, with ∂α/∂P ≈ 0.1°/GPa within the P-range investigated. The Mg-rich octahedra appear to compress in response to the applied pressure, whereas the tetrahedron appears to behave as a rigid unit. The evolution of axial and volume thermal expansion coefficient α with temperature was described by the polynomial α(T) = α0 + α1 T −1/2. The refined parameters for clintonite are as follows: α0 = 2.78(4) 10−5°C−1 and α1 = −4.4(6) 10−5°C1/2 for the unit-cell volume; α0(a) = 1.01(2) 10−5°C−1 and α1(a) = −1.8(3) 10−5°C1/2 for the a-axis; α0(b) = 1.07(1) 10−5°C−1 and α1(b) = −2.3(2) 10−5°C1/2 for the b-axis; and α0(c) = 0.64(2) 10−5°C−1 and α1(c) = −7.3(30) 10−6°C1/2for the c-axis. The β-angle appears to be almost constant within the given T-range. No structure collapsing in response to the T-induced dehydroxylation was found up to 960°C. The HP- and HT-data of this study show that in clintonite, the most and the less expandable directions do not correspond to the most and the less compressible directions, respectively. A comparison between the thermoelastic parameters of clintonite and those of true micas was carried out.  相似文献

Calorimetric and PVT data for the high-pressure phase Mg5Al5Si6O21(OH)7 (Mg-sursassite) have been obtained. The enthalpy of drop solution of three different samples was measured by high-temperature oxide melt calorimetry in two laboratories (UC Davis, California, and Ruhr University Bochum, Germany) using lead borate (2PbO·B2O3) at T=700 C as solvent. The resulting values were used to calculate the enthalpy of formation from different thermodynamic datasets; they range from −221.1 to −259.4 kJ mol−1 (formation from the oxides) respectively −13892.2 to −13927.9 kJ mol−1 (formation from the elements). The heat capacity of Mg5Al5Si6O21(OH)7 has been measured from T=50 C to T=500 C by differential scanning calorimetry in step-scanning mode. A Berman and Brown (1985)-type four-term equation represents the heat capacity over the entire temperature range to within the experimental uncertainty: C P (Mg-sursassite) =(1571.104 −10560.89×T −0.5−26217890.0 ×T −2+1798861000.0×T −3) J K−1 mol−1 (T in K). The P V T behaviour of Mg-sursassite has been determined under high pressures and high temperatures up to 8 GPa and 800 C using a MAX 80 cubic anvil high-pressure apparatus. The samples were mixed with Vaseline to ensure hydrostatic pressure-transmitting conditions, NaCl served as an internal standard for pressure calibration. By fitting a Birch-Murnaghan EOS to the data, the bulk modulus was determined as 116.0±1.3 GPa, (K =4), V T,0 =446.49 3 exp[∫(0.33±0.05) × 10−4 + (0.65±0.85)×10−8 T dT], (K T/T) P  = −0.011± 0.004 GPa K−1. The thermodynamic data obtained for Mg-sursassite are consistent with phase equilibrium data reported recently (Fockenberg 1998); the best agreement was obtained with Δf H 0 298 (Mg-sursassite) = −13901.33 kJ mol−1, and S 0 298 (Mg-sursassite) = 614.61 J K−1 mol−1. The photoluminescence and excitation spectra of sodalites from Greenland, Canada and Xinjiang (China) are observed at 300 and 10 K in detail. The features of the emission and excitation spectra of the orange-yellow fluorescence of these sodalites are independent of the locality. The emission spectra at 300 and 10 K consist of a broad band with a series of peaks and a maximum peak at 648 and 645.9 nm, respectively. The excitation spectra obtained by monitoring the orange-yellow fluorescence at 300 and 10 K consist of a main band with a peak at 392 nm. The luminescence efficiency of the heat-treated sodalite from Xinjiang is about seven times as high as that of untreated natural sodalite. The emission spectrum of the S2 center in sodalite at 10 K consists of a band with a clearly resolved structure with a series of maxima spaced about 560 cm−1 (20–25 nm) apart. Each narrow band at 10 K shows a fine structure consisting of a small peak due to the stretching vibration of the isotopic species of 32S34S, a main peak due to that of the isotopic species of 32S2 and five peaks due to phonon sidebands of the main peak.  相似文献

On the basis of different photosynthetic pathways.there is an obvious difference in δ^13C values between C3 and C4 plants,In terms of this characteristic,we analyzed the organic carbon content (forestlands:1.81%-16.00%;farmland:0.45%-2.22%) and δ^13C values(forestlands:-23.86‰--27.12‰;farmland:-19.66‰--23.26‰)of three profile-soil samples either in farmland or in forestland near the Maolan Karst virgin forest, where there were developed plant C3 plants previously and now are C4 plants. Results showed that the deforestation has accelerated the decomposition rate of soil organic matter and reduced the proportion of active components in soil organic matter and thus soil fertility.  相似文献

Six synthetic NaScSi2O6–CaNiSi2O6 pyroxenes were studied by optical absorption spectroscopy. Five of them of intermediate (Na1−x , Ca x )(Sc1−x , Ni x )Si2O6 compositions show spectra typical of Ni2+ in octahedral coordination, more precise Ni2+ at the M1 site of the pyroxene structure. The common feature of all spectra is three broad absorption bands with maxima around 8,000, 13,000 and 24,000 cm−1 assigned to 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g, 3 A 2g → 3 T 1g and →3 T 1g (3 P) electronic spin-allowed transitions of VINi2+. A weak narrow peak at ∼14,400 cm−1 is assigned to the spin-forbidden 3 A 2g → 1 T 2g (1 D) transition of Ni2+. Under pressure the spin-allowed bands shift to higher energies and change in intensity. The octahedral compression modulus, calculated from the shift of the 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g band in the (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6 pyroxene is evaluated as 85±20 GPa. The Racah parameter B of Ni2+(M1) is found gradually changing from ∼919 cm−1 at ambient pressure to ∼890 cm−1 at 6.18 GPa. The Ni end-member pyroxene [(Ca0.93 Ni0.07)NiSi2O6] has a spectrum different from all others. In addition to the above mentioned bands of Ni2+(M1) it displays several new relatively intense and broad extra bands, which were attributed to electronic transitions of Ni2+ at the M2 site. In difference to CaO8 polyhedron geometry of an eightfold coordination, Ni2+(M2)O8 polyhedra are assumed to be relatively large distorted octahedra. Due to different distortions and different compressibilities of the M1 and M2 sites the Ni2+(M1)- and Ni2+(M2)-bands display rather different pressure-induced behaviors, becoming more resolved in the high-pressure spectra than in that measured at atmospheric pressure. The octahedral compression modulus of Ni2+(M1) in this end-member pyroxene is evaluated as 150 ± 25 GPa, which is noticeably larger than in Ni0.3 pyroxene. This is due to a smaller size and, thus, a stiffer character of Ni2+(M1)O6 octahedron in the (Ca0.93Ni0.07)NiSi2O6 pyroxene compared to (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6.

Lipids extracted from lacustrine deposits in the paleolake Qarhan of the Qaidam basin in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau were determined by conventional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Several series of biomarkers were identified, mainly including n-alkanes, n-alkan-2-ones, n-alkanoic acids, branched alkanes, triterpenoids and steroids, indicative of various biogenic contributions. On the basis of cluster analysis, the n-C15, n-C17, n-C19 alkanes were proposed to be derived from algae and/or photosynthetic bacteria, the n-C21, n-C23, n-C25 homologues from aquatic plants, and the n-C29, n-C31 homologues from vascular plants. In contrast, the n-C27 alkane is not categorized in the n-C29 and n-C31 group of alkanes, probably due to more complex origins including both aquatic and vascular plants, and/or differential biodegradation. Stratigraphically, layers-2, 4 and 5 were found to show a close relationship in n-alkane distribution, associated with a positive shift in carbon isotope composition of bulk organic matter (δ13Corg), inferring a cold/dry period. Layers-1 and 6 were clustered together in association with a negative δ13Corg, excursion, probably indicating a relatively warm/humid climate. The potential coupling between the n-alkane distributions and δ13Corg, suggests a consequence of vegetation change in response to climate change, with the late MIS3 being shown to be unstable, thought to be the climatic optimum in the Tibetan Plateau. Our results suggest that the cluster analysis used in this study probably provides an effective and authentic method to investigate the n-alkane distribution in paleolake sediments.  相似文献

Rising atmospheric pCO2 and ocean acidification originating from human activities could result in increased dissolution of metastable carbonate minerals in shallow-water marine sediments. In the present study, in situ dissolution of carbonate sedimentary particles in Devil’s Hole, Bermuda, was observed during summer when thermally driven density stratification restricted mixing between the bottom water and the surface mixed layer and microbial decomposition of organic matter in the subthermocline layer produced pCO2 levels similar to or higher than those levels anticipated by the end of the 21st century. Trends in both seawater chemistry and the composition of sediments in Devil’s Hole indicate that Mg-calcite minerals are subject to selective dissolution under conditions of elevated pCO2. The derived rates of dissolution based on observed changes in excess alkalinity and estimates of vertical eddy diffusion ranged from 0.2 mmol to 0.8 mmol CaCO3 m−2 h−1. On a yearly basis, this range corresponds to 175–701 g CaCO3 m−2 year−1; the latter rate is close to 50% of the estimate of the current average global coral reef calcification rate of about 1,500 g CaCO3 m−2 year−1. Considering a reduction in marine calcification of 40% by the year 2100, or 90% by 2300, as a result of surface ocean acidification, the combination of high rates of carbonate dissolution and reduced rates of calcification implies that coral reefs and other carbonate sediment environments within the 21st and following centuries could be subject to a net loss in carbonate material as a result of increasing pCO2 arising from burning of fossil fuels.  相似文献

The ambient pressure elastic properties of single-crystal TiO2 rutile are reported from room temperature (RT) to 1800 K, extending by more than 1200 oK the maximum temperature for which rutile elasticity data are available. The magnitudes of the temperature derivatives decrease with increasing temperature for five of the six adiabatic elastic moduli (C ij ). At RT, we find (units, GPa): C 11=268(1); C 33=484(2); C 44=123.8(2); C 66=190.2(5); C 23=147(1); and C 12=175(1). The temperature derivatives (units, GPa K−1) at RT are: (∂C 11/∂T) P =−0.042(5); (∂C 33/∂T) P =−0.087(6); (∂C 44/∂T) P =−0.0187(2); (∂C 66/∂T) P =−0.067(2); (∂C 23/∂T) P =−0.025; and (∂C 12/∂T) P −0.048(5). The values for K S (adiabatic bulk modulus) and μ (isotropic shear modulus) and their temperature derivatives are K S =212(1) GPa; μ=113(1) GPa; (∂K S /∂T) P =−0.040(4) GPa K−1; and (∂μ/∂T) P =−0.018(1) GPa K−1. We calculate several dimensionless parameters over a large temperature range using our new data. The unusually high values for the Anderson-Gròneisen parameters at room temperature decrease with increasing temperature. At high T, however, these parameters are still well above those for most other oxides. We also find that for TiO2, anharmonicity, as evidenced by a non-zero value of [∂ln (K T )/∂lnV] T , is insignificant at high T, implying that for the TiO2 analogue of stishovite, thermal pressure is independent of volume (or pressure). Systematic relations indicate that ∂2 K S /∂TP is as high as 7×10−4 K−1 for rutile, whereas ∂2μ/∂TP is an order of magnitude less. Natural specimens of green gemological euclase (chemical formula BeAlSiO4(OH)) from Brazil were investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption. In addition to iron-related EPR spectra, analyzed recently in blue and colorless euclase, chromium and vanadium-related EPR spectra were also detected in green euclase. Their role as color causing centers is discussed. The results indicate that Cr3+ ions substitute for Al3+ ions in the euclase structure. The EPR rotation patterns of Cr3+ with electron spin S = 3/2 were analyzed with monoclinic spin Hamiltonian leading to the parameters of g xx , g yy and g zz equal to 2.018, 2.001 and 1.956 and electronic fine structure parameters of D = −8.27 GHz and E = 1.11 GHz, respectively, with high asymmetry ratio E/D = 0.13. For the vanadium-related EPR spectra the situation is different. It is concluded that vanadium is incorporated as the vanadyl radical VO2+ with electron spin S = 1/2 with nearly axial spin Hamiltonian parameters gzz = 1.9447, g xx  = 1.9740 g yy  = 1.9669 and axial hyperfine interactions due to the nuclear spin I = 7/2 of the 51V isotope leading to A zz  = 502 MHz, A xx  = 150 MHz and A yy  = 163 MHz. The green color of euclase is caused by two strong broad absorption bands centered at 17,185 and 24,345 cm−1 which are attributed to the 4A2g4T2g, 4T1g transitions of Cr3+, respectively. Vanadyl radicals may introduce some absorption bands centered in the near infrared with tail extending into the visible spectral range.  相似文献

Freshwater marshes could be a source of greenhouse gases emission because they contain large amounts of soil carbon and nitrogen. These emissions are strongly influenced by exogenous nitrogen. We investigate the effects of exogenous nitrogen on ecosystem respiration (CO2), CH4 and N2O emissions from freshwater marshes in situ in the Sanjiang Plain Northeast of China during the growing seasons of 2004 and 2005, using a field fertilizer experiment and the static opaque chamber/GC techniques. The results show that there were no significant differences in patterns of seasonal variations of CO2 and CH4 among the fertilizer and non-fertilizer treatments, but the seasonal patterns of N2O emission were significantly influenced by the exogenous nitrogen. Seasonal averages of the CO2 flux from non-fertilizer and fertilizer were 987.74 and 1,344.35 mg m 2 h 1, respectively, in 2004, and 898.59 and 2,154.17 mg m 2 h 1, respectively, in 2005. And the CH4 from the control and fertilizer treatments were 6.05 and 13.56 mg m 2 h 1 and 0.72 and 1.88 mg m 2 h 1, respectively, in 2004 and 2005. The difference of N2O flux between the fertilizer and non-fertilizer treatments is also significant either in 2004 and 2005. On the time scale of 20-, 100-, and 500-year periods, the integrated global warming potential (GWP) of CO2 + CH4 + N2O released during the two growing seasons for the treatment of fertilizer was 97, 94 and 89%, respectively, higher than that for the control, which suggested that the nitrogen fertilizer can enhance the GWP of the CH4 and N2O either in long time or short time scale.  相似文献

All compounds are of the melilite structure type with space group Thermal expansion data was obtained from in situ X-ray powder diffraction experiments in-house and at HASYLAB at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg (Germany). The thermal expansion coefficients for gehlenite were found to be: α1=7.2(4)×10−6 K−1+3.6(7)×10−9ΔT K−2 and α3=15.0(1)×10−6 K−1. For TbCaAl[Al2O7] the respective values are: α1=7.0(2)×10−6 K−1+2.0(2)×10−9ΔT K−2 and α3=8.5(2)×10−6 K−1+2.0(3)×10−9ΔT K−2, and the thermal expansion coefficients for SmCaAl[Al2O7] are: α1=6.9(2)× 10−6 K−1+1.7(2)×10−9ΔT K−2 and α3=9.344(5)×10−6 K−1. The expansion-mechanisms of the three compounds are explained in terms of structural trends obtained from Rietveld refinements of the crystal structures of the compounds against the powder diffraction patterns. No structural phase transitions have been observed. While gehlenite behaves like a ’proper’ layer structure, the aluminates show increased framework structure behaviour. This is most probably explained by stronger coulombic interactions between the tetrahedral conformation and the layer-bridging cations due to the coupled substitution (Ca2++Si4+)-(Ln 3++Al3+) in the melilite-type structure. The low-temperature heat capacity (C p ) of KAlSi3O8 with a hollandite structure was measured over the range of 5–303 K with a physical properties measurement system. The standard entropy of KAlSi3O8 hollandite is 166.2±0.2 J mol−1 K−1, including an 18.7 J mol−1 K−1 contribution from the configurational entropy due to disorder of Al and Si in the octahedral sites. The entropy of K2Si4O9 with a wadeite structure (Si-wadeite) was also estimated to facilitate calculation of phase equilibria in the system K2O–Al2O3–SiO2. The calculated phase equilibria obtained using Perple_x are in general agreement with experimental studies. Calculated phase relations in the system K2O–Al2O3–SiO2 confirm a substantial stability field for kyanite–stishovite/coesite–Si-wadeite intervening between KAlSi3O8 hollandite and sanidine. The upper stability of kyanite is bounded by the reaction kyanite (Al2SiO5) = corundum (Al2O3) + stishovite (SiO2), which is located at 13–14 GPa for 1,100–1,400 K. The entropy and enthalpy of formation for K-cymrite (KAlSi3O8·H2O) were modified to better fit global best-fit compilations of thermodynamic data and experimental studies. Thermodynamic calculations were undertaken on the reaction of K-cymrite to KAlSi3O8 hollandite + H2O, which is located at 8.3–10.0 GPa for the temperature range 800–1,600 K, well inside the stability field of stishovite. The reaction of muscovite to KAlSi3O8 hollandite + corundum + H2O is placed at 10.0–10.6 GPa for the temperature range 900–1,500 K, in reasonable agreement with some but not all experiments on this reaction.  相似文献
