The unusual achondrite Shergotty resembles terrestrial diabases, and textural and chemical evidence indicates pre-settling and post-settling crystallization of zoned augite (En48Fs19Wo33-En25Fs47Wo28) and pigeonite (En61Fs26Wo13-En21Fs61Wo18) coupled with late crystallization of plagioclase (Ab43An56/Or1-Ab56An41Or3: now shocked to maskelynite), titanomagnetite-ilmenite composite grains, mesostasis (normative Qz34Ab21An5Or38Fs2, assuming Fe as ferrous), whitlockite, pyrrhotite (Fe0.94S), fayalite (Fo10), baddeleyite and chlorapatite. The oxide compositions (Usp62Mt38, Al2O3 2.4, Cr2O3 0.8 wt %; Ilm95Hm5) indicate ~ 850 °C and log oxygen fugacity ? 14, while the occurrence of fayalite rims on mesostasis next to ilmenite indicates 890 °C. Bearing in mind experimental uncertainties, these data are consistent with late-stage crystallization under relatively high oxygen fugacity, as indicated by coexistence of fayalite, Ti-magnetite and a silica glass. The high alkali content of the maskelynite and mesostasis, coupled with the redox state, indicates that the Shergotty meteorite resembles terrestrial basalts more than any other meteorites. Nevertheless the absence of H2O, as shown by the occurrence of phosphorus in whitlockite rather than in hydroxylapatite, distinguish the Shergotty achondrite from typical terrestrial diabases. Whereas the FeO/MnO ratios of pyroxenes from the Moon, Earth and several differentiated meteorites are independent of FeO, the ratio for Shergotty pyroxenes changes from 30 to 40 with increasing FeO, and the linear trend extrapolates to 0.2 MnO for zero iron. Hence caution is needed in using FeO/MnO as a planetary indicator. For pyroxenes, Na is almost independent of Fe/Mg while Ti increases and Cr decreases with increasing Fe/Mg. Maskelynite contains 0.5–0.25 wt % K2O, 0.6 wt % FeO, 0.04 TiO2, 0.04–0.07 MgO, ~ 0.01 BaO and 0.02–0.03 P2O5. A bulk analysis calculated from the mode and compositions of the minerals matches quite well with two bulk chemical analyses but not with a third.  相似文献

The bulk composition of metal (kamacite plus perryite) was determined in eleven E-chondrites and eight aubrites. The data are compatible with the subdivision of the E-chondrites into two groups (Yavnel, 1963; Anders, 1964), St Mark's and St Sauveur belonging to type I (Easton, 1985). The Ni content of kamacite plus perryite in Kota Kota (5.49%) is within the range covered by the remaining E-chondrites. Normative perryite, (Fe, Ni)x(Si,P)y constitutes 2.1% of Kota Kota and 2.7% of South Oman. The Ni content in the bulk metal of Aubres, Bishopville, Norton County and Peña Blanca Spring is about half the average Ni content in the metal of E-chondrites or the remaining aubrites (Bustee, Khor Temiki, Mayo Belwa and Shallowater). High Ga/Ni and Ge/Ni ratios distinguish the metal in E-chondrites and aubrites from that in ordinary chondrites. In a large metal grain from Aubres perryite formed on reheating, whereas in one from Khor Temiki there is evidence of shock and displacement of fragmented schreibersite (rhabdite). Thirty-eight metal grains (< 1.5 mm diameter) from Khor Temiki have a wide compositional range like that in Mayo Belwa (Graham, 1978). In Shallowater the distribution of Ni in the metal is bimodal (5.2 and 11.6%) and there is evidence of rapid cooling. The composition of both bulk metal and individual grains in aubrites makes it unlikely that they represent residual metal trapped during magmatic differentiation and/or fractional crystallization of E6 material. Compositional differences between metal grains strongly indicate that the aubrites are polymict breccias.  相似文献

In this paper we show that the explosive products from O-shells of massive stars which contain 124Xe with large overproduction factors do not contain any of the naturally occurring isotopes of Os and Pb. We show further that the explosive products from C-shells (explosive carbon burning) do contain Os and Pb along with Xe which is strongly enriched in r-Xe of anomalous isotopic composition. The composition of Os in this matter is probably s-like rather than r-like. Pb in this matter is enriched in 208Pb. The results and arguments of this paper have implications for studies of isotopic compositions of Xe, Os, and Pb in residues of the Allende and other carbonaceous chondrites.  相似文献

New data are used to confirm the positive correlation between Mg and Cr in howardites and eucrites, and the identity of the Mg/Cr ratio in the two meteorite groups is established, provided Chaves is treated as an anomalous howardite. Macibini, usually classed as a eucrite, has higher contents of Mg and Cr than all but the cumulate eucrites; the suggestion is made, on the basis of its polymict character, the wide compositional range of its constituent clasts, and its bulk chemistry, that it should be re-classified as a howardite. The Mg-Cr relationship in diogenites is one of almost constant Mg but extremely variable Cr. The “average diogenite” plots fairly close to the trend established for the howardites and eucrites, indicative of the genetic link between these three meteorite classes. The silicate fractions of nine mesosiderites studied do not show a close coherence of Mg and Cr. With the exception of Patwar, they contain more Cr than howardites and eucrites, and exhibit greater variation of Cr relative to Mg. The general lack of clear inter-element trends in these silicate fractions suggests that they had a more complex origin and evolution than the silicates of the achondrites. Preliminary results of quantitative computer modeling of major and trace elements in the eucrites indicate that about 32 percent fractional crystallization of a eucritic liquid of the composition of Sioux County yields a residual liquid similar to Nuevo Laredo; the cumulate produced has the approximate composition of the cumulate eucrite Moama. These results are in agreement with the model developed by Consolmagno and Drake (1977), using the rare earth elements, for a corresponding stage in the solidification of an initial eucritic liquid produced by equilibrium partial melting of the source region of the parent body (Stolper, 1977). Plotting of the Ti concentrations of the meteorites studied against their Fe/Fe+Mg ratios supports Stolper's idea that the eucrites and the Mg-rich achondrites do not lie on the same liquid line of descent, and shows that the mesosiderite silicates do not conform to either trend.  相似文献

根据IERS决议,国际地球参考系的原点是地球固体部分、海洋和大气的共同质量中心因此,地球上流体部分质量分布变化会改变固体地球质心相对于国际地球参考系原点的位置变化.空间技术如SLR和GPS的观测结果表明,固体地球质心可能有幅度达10毫米的位置变化,所以给出固体地球质心位置变化以及地球物理原因已成为重要问题.本文采用了全球4000多个地面气象台站从1949到1982年的月平均降水、温度和气压值,对水和大气的分布变化引起的固体地球质心位置变化进行了计算,得出水储量分布变化对固体地球质心运动比气压分布变化有更大的贡献,固体地球质心位置变化的最大值可达4毫米.  相似文献

Although neutron activation analysis for trace Ga and Ge is more sensitive and possibly more accurate, X-ray fluorescence analysis is quicker, uses readily available equipment, and is non-destructive. It is shown that Ga, Ge, and Ni can be determined by X-ray fluorescence on metallographic polished mounts sufficiently accurately for classification according to Wasson's chemical groups. The wide spectral coverage and extensive spatial, temporal, and phase-angle mapping capabilities of the Visual Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) onboard the Cassini-Huygens Orbiter are producing fundamental new insights into the nature of the atmospheres of Saturn and Titan. For both bodies, VIMS maps over time and solar phase angles provide information for a multitude of atmospheric constituents and aerosol layers, providing new insights into atmospheric structure and dynamical and chemical processes. For Saturn, salient early results include evidence for phosphine depletion in relatively dark and less cloudy belts at temperate and mid-latitudes compared to the relatively bright and cloudier Equatorial Region, consistent with traditional theories of belts being regions of relative downwelling. Additional Saturn results include (1) the mapping of enhanced trace gas absorptions at the south pole, and (2) the first high phase-angle, high-spatial-resolution imagery of CH4 fluorescence. An additional fundamental new result is the first nighttime near-infrared mapping of Saturn, clearly showing discrete meteorological features relatively deep in the atmosphere beneath the planet’s sunlit haze and cloud layers, thus revealing a new dynamical regime at depth where vertical dynamics is relatively more important than zonal dynamics in determining cloud morphology. Zonal wind measurements at deeper levels than previously available are achieved by tracking these features over multiple days, thereby providing measurements of zonal wind shears within Saturn’s troposphere when compared to cloudtop movements measured in reflected sunlight. For Titan, initial results include (1) the first detection and mapping of thermal emission spectra of CO, CO2, and CH3D on Titan’s nightside limb, (2) the mapping of CH4 fluorescence over the dayside bright limb, extending to ∼ ∼750 km altitude, (3) wind measurements of ∼ ∼0.5 ms−1, favoring prograde, from the movement of a persistent (multiple months) south polar cloud near 88° S latitude, and (4) the imaging of two transient mid-southern-latitude cloud features.  相似文献

In April 1969, the chondrite was accidentally found in the side wall of the vegetable storage excavated at Shibayama-machi, Sanbu-gun, Chiba-ken, Japan, by Mr. A. Ishii and his grandson, Mr. S. Ito. The chondrite named Shibayama has been weathered thoroughly for a long period of burial underground. The bulk chemical composition, especially total Fe (21.41%) and ratios of Fetotal/SiO2(0.557), SiO2/MgO (1.59) and molar composition of olivine (Fa23) and pyroxene (Fs22) as well as mineral composition, indicate that Shibayama is a typical olivine-hypersthene chondrite. If the oxidized Fe is assumed only from metallic Fe, the original metallic Fe (7.75%) and Femetal/Fetotal(0.361) also support the above conclusion. From the well-recrystallized texture, indistinct and obliterated chondrule-matrix boundary, homogeneous composition of olivine and pyroxene, absence of igneous glass, and interstitial and well-developed plagioclase, this chondrite could be classified in petrologic type 6. Mosaic texture, kink bands, undulatory extinction of silicate grains and maskelynitization of plagioclase indicate that Shibayama suffered from a heavy shock effect, as is seen in other L-6 group chondrites.  相似文献

We have studied the spatial structure and temporal evolution of the intensity and Doppler velocity of dark fibrils forming the superpenumbra of an isolated regular sunspot. The observations were obtained with the Multichannel Subtractive Double Pass (MSDP) spectrograph which operates in H and is installed at the focus of the Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) at Tenerife (Canary Islands). The fibril pattern shows a remarkable stability during the period of our observations (64 min). Moreover, almost all individual fibrils are identifiable in all frames, but they undergo continual changes in contrast, shape and size. Investigating the temporal evolution of intensity and velocity of individual fibrils, fluctuations were found which have a quasi periodic behavior. As mechanisms for these changes we may suggest (a) change of the Doppler shift due to a wave, (b) periodic changes of the density of the H absorbing material, (c) disappearance and reappearance of fibrils, in more or less the same magnetic flux tube, at regular intervals.  相似文献

Because of their short cosmic ray exposure ages, chondritic meteorites are more likely to have been broken off from parent bodies in Earth-crossing orbits than from parent bodies in the asteroid belt. The radii of the objects now in the vicinity of the Earth (Apollo and Amor objects) are too small to be unfragmented asteroids of the theory for the origin of gas-rich meteorites of Anders. Because of the abundant evidence for very heavy shock and reheating among L- and H-chondrites, I conclude that the asteroidal origin for the ordinary chondrites is still the most likely. A cometary origin for the CI chondrites is examined. Regolith and megaregolith do not necessarily have to be formed by impacts on the cometary nucleus. The short-period comet Encke receives about 1/10 the solar-wind flux of a belt asteroid at 2.5 AU in its present orbit. The thickness of the megaregolith (C1 chondrites) is estimated between 0.1 and 0.3 km. Stirring of the megaregolith without substantial loss of dust from the comet might occur when the comet is transitional between “active” and “dead.” The consolidation of C1- “dust” into rock is somewhat problematic, but if liquid water and water vapor have played a role, then a crust rich in solar gases might form in the outer regions of a comet. A testable alternative explanation is suggested, namely that the solar gases in the C1 chondrites do not come from the Sun.  相似文献

Compositional data for spinels in the chromite-hercynite-ulvöspinel system from three large basalts and for spinels in 48 basalt particles in four soil samples show: (1) that the range of compositions are comparable to those of spinels in Apollo 12 basalts; (2) that the spinel series is complete between 0.75 FeCr2O4 0.25 FeAl2O4 and Fe2TiO4; (3) that the Apollo 12 bimodal distribution is present insofar as chromite-rich and ulvöspinel-rich phases are more commonly present than compositions intermediate between these two end members; (4) well defined ionic relationships exist for those cations displaying high octahedral site preference energies in the spinel structure (viz. Cr vs Al and Ti vs Cr+ Al); (5) cations displaying low site preference energies (Fe2+, Mg) show poor correlation; and (6) the absence of a simple relationship between the divalent ions (Fe2+ and Mg), and the paucity (10% of 356 analyses) of intermediate compositions suggests a strong dependence on the structural stability of intermediate members of a normal (hercynite, chromite) — inverse (ulvöspinel) solid solution series  相似文献

The chemical and mineralogical work on meteorites over the period 1800 to 1840 is reviewed. The number of elements known to be present in meteorites rose from six to 19. Chemical techniques advanced rapidly so that by 1815 the procedure was essentially that of modern wet chemical analysts: removal of the magnetic material, dissolution of the acid-soluble portion and fusion of the remainder with alkali. After Bournon's work in 1802 much mineralogical progress was made during the 1820's, notably by G. Rose. Berzelius made important contributions by his own analyses and synthesis of the work of others. By 1840 ordinary chondrites, carbonaceous chondrites, plagioclase-pyroxene achondrites, Chassigny, pallasites and octahedrites could all be distinguished  相似文献

Rare earth elements (REE) and uranium were studied for their distributions in various component phases of four ordinary chondrites, Kesen (H4), Richardton (H5), Bruderheim (L6), and Saint Séverin (LL6). A selective dissolution method was applied for the phase fractionation. The REE were analysed by neutron activation analysis, and U was determined by neutron-induced fission tracks. The present study revealed that both REE and U are highly enriched in the Ca-phosphate minerals with different enrichment factors, implying chemical fractionation between them. The phosphates seem to be responsible for more than 80% of the light REE in all chondrites. On the other hand, only 20–40% of the total U resides in the Ca-phosphates. This difference in enrichments might have been caused through the levels of metamorphic activity on the meteoritic parent bodies.  相似文献

Another explorative study of the use of factor analysis in meteorite geochemistry has been made. Forty-two major and trace elements were sought from analyses of 80 stony meteorites in recent articles. Incomplete data reduced the matrix to 30 elements in 55 stones. Missing data were substituted by mean values in the groups CC, (E+H+L+LL) and ACH (13, 28, 14 individuals, respectively): the effect of these substitutions was tested empirically. R-mode analysis with varimax rotation was carried out on these three sub-sets and on the whole set: interpretation focused on factor loadings and scores. Results on the three sub-sets gave little information of geochemical value, although the largest achondrite factor (lithophile elements) permits discrimination of eucrites, aubrites, diogenites and howardites. Analysis of all 55 meteorites showed the variance to be dominated by 1, a refractory-lithophile(Al, Mg, Ca, Zr, Sc, U, Th, La, Eu, Yb) factor, and 2, a volatile-chalcophile (Zn, Te, Cd, Bi, Tl) factor. Factor (1) scores will discriminate chondrites from achondrites: factor (2) scores delineate the compositional trend CC1, CC2, CC3, (E+H+L+LL) except for enstatite chondrites Indarch, Abee which fall with CC1. Further progress would need metal, sulphide and other mineral percentages for each meteorite.  相似文献
